For Your Money:
The Cotswolds Distillery is a pioneering force when it comes to Gin tourism. With daily tours you’ll be able to see the distillery in action, from gin to whisky production, and you’ll be taken to a tasting room to sample all of the goods.
The onsite shop is a beautiful little spot of merchandising genius, with all sorts of strange things to take away as well as some exclusive bottlings that are almost impossible to get hold of anywhere else.
A few thoughts from Gin Foundry:
Forget Blenheim Palace , this is the place to go in Oxfordshire if you are on the hunt for things to do. The consistent thing we always notice about their tour is just how much they invest in it. Not in anything lavish - but in the way that every person going through it clearly matters to them - they really try and convey what they do and answer what you want to know. The invest the time in telling their story and it’s a hard place to walk away from not feeling more than a little bit charmed by. As they are making whisky too, so the smells and what you learn about are as varied as the spirits they make. For a £10, it’s an absolute bargain.
In 2019, there will be a full blown visitor centre that will make the distillery even more beautiful, as well as stream line the tours, bringing with it different experiences to book into, so keep your eyes peeled.
Don’t forget though, if you are traveling as a family as a working distillery they are unable to accommodate any children under 8 years of age. Children aged 8-17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times and will not be able to partake in the tasting session (due to licences).

Hattie was very enthusiastic about the distillery and had excellent knowledge about her place of work, the distilling process of whisky and gin, and also how to enhance the flavours when drinking these spirits. She spoke very highly of her employer who appears to have a clear vision of how to grow and develop the business using local produce and caring about environmental factors. - Deano1967 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great lunch, fantastic whisky This wasn’t our first time at the Distillery and re-visited to show some family members over from America what real whisky is like and to also have some lunch. Tables can’t be reserved so it’s a case of wait for one to be available. The cafe being full did put a bit of pressure on the waiting staff who weren’t quick to clear tables (so actually making the queue longer). Maybe one or two extra in the front of house would help keep things flowing a bit quicker? The food was excellent and good value for money given the location with generous portion sizes and great presentation. Then it was into the shop to try some of the new whiskies. The lady serving us is a great ambassador for the distillery and her passion for the job, coupled with some humour more than made up for the cafe wait. We could sample any of the products and didn’t feel rushed or pressured at any time. Needless to say we left considerably lighter of wallet (Treacle Rum, Banyuls cask whisky, sherry cask whisky and Calvados cask whisky) but quality of these levels is never cheap. If you’re in the Cotswolds, a visit to the distillery is highly recommended. Read more Written December 29, 2023

John, our guide, gave a friendly informative tour today, taking us around the distillery explaining the process of the creation of the award winning single malt whiskies and gins. A tasting session at the end in a relaxed atmosphere was a perfect finish to the visit. A good way to spend an afternoon or morning for couples or adult groups. 10 of the best Cotswold gins
By Author Lucy Dodsworth
Posted on Last updated: 20 March 2024
A gin boom in the last few years has seen a host of small producers springing up across the UK, and the Cotswolds is no exception, with an impressive number of boutique distilleries creating high-quality artisan gins. Whether served neat, with tonic, ice and a slice of lemon, or in a creative cocktail, these fantastic Cotswold gins are a delicious taste of the region – cheers!
10 of our favourite Cotswold gins
1. Cotswolds Distillery
Founded in 2014, the Cotswolds Distillery is the biggest and best-known of the Cotswold gin producers. Their distillery is located in Stourton in the northeast Cotswolds, but they also have shops in Broadway and Bourton-on-the-Water where you can pick up a bottle. You can also join in a tour and tasting at the distillery or in Broadway – or do one online if you live further afield.
If you fancy trying your hand at making your own gin, they run Gin Blending Masterclasses in Stourton and Broadway where you can choose from different botanical and fruit flavours to create your own special blend, with expert advice on how to turn it into the perfect Martini.
Their flagship Cotswolds Dry Gin – which goes cloudy when you add tonic – is an aromatic London Dry with nine botanicals. But they also do a changing range of special Cotswold gins, including hedgerow and wildflower gins, as well as their own Cotswold whisky. Buy online *
2. Sibling Gin
Located on the outskirts of Cheltenham, Sibling Distillery was founded in 2014 by two brothers and two sisters who inherited their drinks skills from their brewery-owning parents. They do everything on site, from distilling their own base spirits to bottling their gin. You can also take a distillery tour to see how it’s done or blend your own gin – they’re generous with samples so book a taxi!
Sibling’s Original Gin has notes of citrus, vanilla and blueberry, and they also make a range of seasonal gins, including a winter warmer infused with festive cranberries and clementines. Or serve their Negroni Gin with tonic for a bitter, Italian-style aperitivo . Buy online *
3. Gin in a Tin
Gin in a Tin is the creation of gin connoisseur Martin Agius, who runs The Gin Pantry at The Plough Inn Kelmscott. He used his years of gin expertise to create his own custom gin blends, partnering with his artistic daughter Charlotte to design their unusual packaging. The brand focuses on sustainability, using locally sourced botanicals, recyclable materials and packaging.
Dubbed ‘The United Colours of Juniper’, their range features a range of different flavour combinations – Sage, Fig and Thyme is one of our favourites. And as well as a core collection of numbered gins, each in a different colour tin, they also make seasonal specials. Buy online
4. Polo Gin
Polo Gin was founded by a former professional polo player after injury forced him to retire from the sport. After discovering that British polo players in India were among the first people to mix gin and tonic in India in 1857, Polo Gin was born, a smooth easy-drinking gin that’s made using sustainable, organic production methods. Since then they have won multiple Great Taste Gold Awards.
Their original Botanical and Classic Polo Gins have been joined in the stable (apologies for the pun) by hedgerow foraged Sloe Gin, Strawberry and Rose, and Rhubarb and Plum gins, all using 100% organic botanicals. And they also make a delicious double spiced rum. Buy online *
5. Garden Swift Gin
Named after Latin term for roe deer, the Capreolus Cotswold gin distillery started off producing locally harvested fruit like apples, pears, plums, damsons and blackberries to make eaux de vie – a type of clear fruit brandy. The business is run from distiller Barney Wilczak’s greenhouse, but has expanded to a team of four family and friends and added two gins to their repertoire.
Their Garden Swift Gin (formerly known as Garden Tiger) uses 34 carefully selected botanicals, including Sicilian blood orange and flowers from the lime tree. And there’s also the Hart and Dart gin, which is aged in a mulberry wood barrel to add sweetness and spice. Buy online *
6. Douglas Fir Gin
For something a bit different, how about a Kaffir Lime and Lemongrass, Earl Grey Tea or Douglas Fir infused gin? Twisting Spirits is run by a husband and wife team Mary and Rich, who started distilling in their garage in Oxfordshire in 2017 before moving to a small unit in Tewkesbury. They do everything by hand, from distilling and bottling to labelling and boxing the gins.
Twisting Spirits are known for their bold, fresh-tasting gins with contemporary flavours and colourful bottles. As well as their standard range there are also special edition gins, including a unique Kimchi Gin, with spicy, savoury flavours from Mary’s homemade kimchi. Buy online *
7. Boutique Distillery Gin
After starting out making moonshine in the New Zealand bush, Boutique Distillery relocated to Gloucestershire and began crafting their artisan gins. This eco-friendly distillery is the only one in the country that’s built its own copper still – known as ‘Ginavive’ – from scratch using upcycled materials, and uses 100% renewable energy and condensers which reduce water usage.
Their original Fine Dry Gin is produced in small batches and uses 13 botanicals to give it flavours of juniper, cardamom, citrus and floral, which makes a cloudy G&T when mixed. They also have a pretty in pink Raspberry & Hibiscus Gin which uses local raspberries. Buy online
8. Piston Distillery
Piston Distillery started life in Worcester before opening a distillery at Cheltenham’s Staverton airfield. Founder Nick Weatherall wanted to challenge old school methods, creating a unique recipe for his classic London Dry gin. Since then the range has expanded with a selection of flavoured gins, from ginger or coffee-infused gin to raspberry and hibiscus or Black Forest flavours.
They also run a Gin School where you make your own gin in their state-of-the-art labs. You start by learning about the gin-making process and choosing your botanicals, then your gin is infused in their copper stills while you try their gins, before it’s bottled to take home. Buy online *
9. Bath Distillery Gin
The Bath Distillery was the first gin distillery in the city for 250 years and is located in the historic heart of Bath . You can call in to their Canary Gin Bar on Queen Street for a ‘Gin’ Austen cocktail, a teapot of gin or a cocktail-making masterclass. And there are tours and tastings at their distillery, which recently moved from beneath the bar to bigger premises on Monmouth Place.
Bath Distillery’s Classic Gin is flavoured with bitter orange, kaffir lime leaf and coriander. They also do a range of infused flavoured gins, with an Orange Sloe Gin and Hopped Rhubarb Gin currently available, and suggestions for cocktails to make with them on their website. Buy online
10. Bath Botanical Gin
Another Bath-based distillery, the evocatively-named Bath Botanical Gin Distillery & Herbal Apothecary is a small-scale gin producer located across the river from the city centre in Widcombe. It’s a hands-on place with ingredients locally sourced, organic, biodynamic and hand-picked wherever possible, and bottles created, filled, waxed, labelled and numbered by hand.
The distillery is run by Sue Mullett, a medical herbalist who started making herbal elixirs before teaching herself to make gin. Their signature Botanical No.1 Gin is a London Dry gin using hand-picked lime flowers from Bath, and they also make seasonal fruit and small-batch gins. Buy online

Take a look…
Where is Cotswolds gin made?
The Cotswolds Distillery, where all of the Cotswolds gins are made, is in the idyllic village of Stourton in the Cotswolds. At the distillery, you can even go on a Cotswolds gin tour. Find out more here !
For those who have never visited, the Cotswolds is a picturesque area of the UK that covers 800 square miles across five counties: Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.
Its countryside is the perfect place to forage fantastic gin botanicals!
How is Cotswolds gin made?
Cotswolds gin is made by the Cotswolds Distillery, which was founded by Dan Szor.
At the Cotswolds Distillery, they take the French idea of “terroir” very seriously and make the effort to source local ingredients wherever possible for all of their gins.
One key local ingredient at the core of Cotswolds Distillery’s Cotswolds Dry Gin, which is itself the base for many of their other gins, is Cotswolds lavender. To the lavender, they add other botanical ingredients like lime and grapefruit peel, and that quintessential juniper, of course.
The Cotswolds Distillery team distils those botanicals in a base spirit in their copper still, which they have affectionately named Dolly.
Once the final liquid is ready, it is bottled in Cotswolds Distillery’s iconic dark-glass bottles, which are labelled before being sent out to gin fans all over the world.
Why is Cotswold Gin cloudy?
Some Cotswolds Distillery gins become cloudy when mixed with tonic water or ice because of the high volume of essential oils in the liquid. The oils come from the use of lots of lime and pink grapefruit zest as botanical ingredients to make the gin.
Many distilleries filter these oils out of their gin before bottling, however, Cotswolds Distillery choose not to filter theirs as they prefer the flavour and texture the oils add to the finished gin.
Traditionally, a cloudy gin was seen as something undesirable, but we embrace the cloudy appearance of our Cotswolds Cloudy G&T as a clear sign of a high-quality, flavour-rich gin.
— Cotswolds Distillery
What gins does Cotswolds Distillery make?
Cotswolds Distillery makes a stunning range of craft gins, including an Old Tom gin , a barrel-aged gin and a range of Wildflower gins .
Cotswolds Dry Gin
Cotswolds Distillery’s signature edition, Cotswolds Dry Gin is made with local Cotswolds lavender and eight other carefully selected botanicals, including lime zest and pink grapefruit peel.
This gin has a wonderfully fresh flavour profile, that is lead by juniper and elevated bright citrus and floral notes that are simply divine. It’s no wonder this beautiful gin has won so many awards!
What’s more, Cotswolds Dry Gin develops a pearlescent cloudiness when mixed with ice or tonic water, making it a real show-stopper when poured for guests.
Cotswolds Cloudy Christmas Gin
This festive edition was originally introduced to gin fans as Craft Gin Club’s December 2020 Gin of the Month - and Craft Gin Clubbers have been in love with it ever since!
Called the Cloudy Christmas Gin because of the iconic misty hue that appears when Cotswold gin is mixed with ice or tonic, this merry tipple has an abundance of Christmassy spice and clementine citrus tones that are perfect for the festive season.
You can get the full low-down on this remarkable expression right here .
Cotswolds Hedgerow Gin
If you are a fan of sloe gin, blackberry gin or damson gin, you simply must try Cotswolds Hedgerow Gin - it is made with local sloe berries, damson berries, blackberries and bullace (a variety of plums)!
Created by mixing Cotswolds Dry Gin with locally sourced hedgerow fruit and berries, the gin is bursting with a symphony of baked plum and blackberry tones, all underpinned by a delightfully rich juniper and citrus base.
With that bold and wonderfully seasonal flavour profile, Cotswolds Hedgerow Gin is the perfect autumn gin - and it’s just as delicious at any other time of the year too.

COTSWOLDS DRY GIN
Gift messaging is available in your basket
Our award-winning Cotswolds Dry Gin is a delectable blend of nine carefully-considered botanicals, including local lavender from the Cotswolds and freshly peeled pink grapefruit and lime zest. Due to the unusually high volume of botanicals we use, our gin causes a beautiful pearlescent cloud to appear when ice or tonic is added. A juniper-led gin with fresh citrusy notes and a hint of lavender.
Magnum and double magnum bottles available to purchase.
CAREFULLY SOURCED INGREDIENTS
Juniper berries, coriander seed and angelica root form the classic foundation for our Cotswolds Dry Gin. We then add Cotswold lavender from nearby Snowshill and bay leaves. The citrus element comes from freshly-peeled lime and pink grapefruit zest - unusually we use fresh peels rather than dried because of the greater quantity of essential oils. This entails peeling several hundred limes and grapefruits per week, by hand! The final botanicals are cardamom seed and black peppercorn, to give a hint of spice.
Serving SUGGESTIONS
For the perfect Cotswolds Cloudy G&T, fill a large copa glass with ice, pour over a 50ml measure of gin and top with classic tonic water. Garnish with a slice of pink grapefruit and a fresh bay leaf.
Made In the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is hugely important to us; in fact, it defines every aspect of our being. We feel extremely lucky to live in one of England's most charming and beloved regions, full of character, romance and history. We try, where possible, to emphasise the rich agricultural bounty of the Cotswolds. The principle things that grow in the Cotswolds are fruits and grains, and these are the building blocks of our flavour profiles.

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.
And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.
