Paris (Le Havre) France Port Guide
Le Havre is a city in the Normandy region of France, located on the northern shore of the country. While Le Havre has a long maritime history, today it is mostly known to travelers for being the gateway port to Paris. When you cruise to Paris, France, you’ll actually be arriving in Le Havre, which is the second largest port in France. In fact, it’s name even means “the port”.
Visitors to Le Havre on a Paris cruise port of call from a European cruise will find a temperate oceanic climate that is often windy when you’re right by the coast. Luckily, going inland to Paris usually finds more temperate weather, particularly in the months when cruise ships sail to Le Havre and Paris, which is typically in the spring and summer during northern Europe and transatlantic cruise itineraries.
Please Note: While we don't currently sail to Paris, you can still discover the beauty of the country on one of our France cruises . Browse our luxury cruises to France below.

Top sights & attractions for cruises to paris (le havre), arc de triomphe.
Take a walk or drive by what may be the world’s most stately looking roundabout thanks to the Arc de Triomphe. Located in the middle of a busy roundabout, the Arc de Triomphe grandly stands at the western end of the Champs-Elysees. Go up to the top of it for an excellent photo op of the famous Champs-Elysees boulevard and to marvel at the organized chaos of the cars zipping around below you.
Mont Saint Michel
Along the coast of Normandy is Mont Saint Michel Abbey, which is an incredible example of Norman architecture. The stunning site is magnificent to behold due to its location atop a rock towering above the ocean. When you visit, take time to walk the cobblestone walkways where you’ll find shops and cafes to tuck into. You’ll also want to see the awe-inspiring interior of the abbey.
D-Day Landing Beaches
Those who are interested in learning more about the history of World War II will want to visit Omaha Beach, where D-Day occurred. While in Normandy you can also visit Pointe du Hoc, where Allied forces strategically climbed the 100-foot promontory to better battle the Axis forces; the American Cemetery of Colleville, where American troops are buried; and Pegasus Bridge, which is the landing location of the British Parachute Brigade.
Famous Churches
In Paris, you can’t miss seeing the curved steeples of Sacré-Cœur, perched on a hill in the Montmartre neighborhood overlooking the city center; or the gothic architecture of Notre Dame Cathedral with its gargoyles seeming to keep a watch over the square below. In Le Havre, you can visit St. Joseph’s Church, which was built after World War II decimated the city and has a modern style designed by renowned architect Auguste Perret.
Learn More About Paris (Le Havre) Shore Excursions
Top things to do in paris (le havre), go to the top of the eiffel tower.
When you cruise to Paris, France, it’s not just enough to see the Eiffel Tower standing proudly over the city. You’ll also want to go to the top for incredible panoramic views of Paris that stretch on for miles.
Tour the Louvre
If you’re into art, you can’t miss a visit to the Louvre, one of the most famous art museums in the world. It houses the Mona Lisa and a vast array of other paintings and sculptures. Even its entrance is artful since you arrive to the museum by going through a glass pyramid.
Sit at a Café
One of the iconic things to do in Paris is sit at a café and write in your journal or people-watch while eating a perfectly baked croissant and sipping a frothy cappuccino, of course. A great way to do this is on your free time during a Paris city tour shore excursion.
Palace of Versailles
Feel like a king or queen when your spend the day touring the opulent Palace of Versailles and its lovely gardens. The Palace of Versailles was built in the 17th century and served as the principal royal residence of the king of France until the French Revolution in 1789. In 1837 it was turned into a museum, and today it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Top Food and Drink Spots Near the Paris (Le Havre) Cruise Port
If you’re curious what shopping in a supermarket is like in France, you can find out during your Paris cruise port of call. Visit the Monoprix department store, which is located in Espace Coty mall and features a supermarket. There is also a small supermarket in Halles Centrales, the central market in Le Havre.
In Paris, you won’t want to miss trying its mouth-wateringly delicious crepes, baguettes with cheese spread, and chocolate croissants – or any one of the many, many other delightful pastries and cuisine you’ll come across. Unique dining experiences abound in Paris, from dining atop the Eiffel Tower to taking in a show with your meal at Moulin Rouge.
If visiting Normandy during your time in port, don’t miss out on some of the region’s delicacies, such as calvados and cider brandy, which you can drink or enjoy as an ingredient in the local cuisine such as pork with calvados and apples.
Culture & History of the Paris (Le Havre) Cruise Port
Le Havre’s history has long been linked to its harbor. The city began to grow substantially in the 18th and 19th centuries thanks to trade from the West Indies and the industrial revolution, respectively. Le Havre has a place in World War II history as the Battle of Normandy touched its center where thousands of lives were lost and property was damaged. Today, the city of Le Havre has been rebuilt and reflects a modernist style.
Though most civilians are aware of Le Havre due to the cruise ships that stop there, the port is also busy in other ways and regularly sees container traffic, oil tankers, and other industrial ships come through its harbor.
As you near Paris, you’ll begin to leave behind the commercial maritime industry and start to feel more of the romance of the country as the elegant culture and exquisite cuisine of Paris invites you into its folds.
French is the official language of Le Havre and Paris (and the rest of France), though you’ll find that many locals speak English.
Paris (Le Havre) Port Facilities & Location
As mentioned earlier, the cruise port for Paris is actually located about 120 miles to the northwest in the city of Le Havre. Located on English Channel and adjacent to the Seine River, Le Havre is in an excellently located spot that makes it easy for ships to call, and just a short distance away for travelers from some of France’s most iconic sites.
The cruise terminal has a long, steep gangway so physically impaired passengers should expect to need assistance. Once you’ve reached the inside of the cruise terminal, you’ll find a welcome center with tourist information and complimentary wifi. Taxis are usually waiting outside the cruise terminal.
Getting to the city center of Le Havre from where cruise ships dock in the harbor takes about 25 minutes to walk. Sometimes there are free shuttles to the center of town, and you can also find taxis and a train station that takes you into town fairly affordably. However, most passengers leave behind Le Havre for the wonders of Paris or Normandy.
Transportation in Paris (Le Havre)
The easiest and most stress-free way to get to Paris from Le Havre is on a shore excursion that conveniently takes you there from your ship on a comfortable bus with a knowledgeable guide. You can do a city transfer shore excursion that gives you free time on your own for the day before catching the transfer back to the ship. There is also a train that runs between Paris and Le Havre that takes about two hours.
If you want to stay in Le Havre for the day, a shuttle is available between the cruise terminal and city center, and you’ll likely be dropped near City Hall or the Espace Coty. Car rentals are also available by the Paris cruise terminal of Le Havre. In addition, you’ll find a tram system within walking distance of the ship that will take you to the beach or other areas of the city and beyond.
Shopping Near the Paris (Le Havre) Cruise Port
In Paris, the Champs-Elysees is the famous shopping boulevard to head to, and is flanked by the Arc de Triomphe at one end. The Champs-Elysees has high street and luxury fashion houses lining it and lots of cafes mixed in as well, which are perfect for a break from your shopping spree.
In Le Havre, you’ll find several malls and a central market called Halles Centrales. The malls to head to are Espace Coty in the city center or the new Docks Vauban by the train station.
Local Currency & Tipping Customs
France accepts the Euro and you’ll find ATMs dispensing Euro notes all around Paris. Tipping in France can be confusing since a service charge is required by law to be added to the bill in cafes and restaurants, typically in the amount of 15%. However, this amount doesn’t necessarily go to your server, so leaving a small additional tip in change or euro notes is appreciated. It’s common for people to round up the bill to the nearest euro for exceptional service or leave around 5% of the total bill.

There’s nothing quite like hopping on one of the many cruises from New York City , leaving the Statue of Liberty and iconic skyline behind for an adventure you’ll never forget after wandering some of the most famous streets in the world. Plus, New York is home to the oldest cruise terminal in the United States. Nowadays, there are two hubs, one in Manhattan and another in Brooklyn . An additional cruise terminal, in Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, also serves the area.
The Manhattan cruise terminal is located on the edge of Midtown, making it easy to spend port days or pre-cruise time exploring Times Square, Central Park, or the Theater District. The Empire State Building and iconic department stores including Macy’s Herald Square are also within walking distance of the Manhattan cruise port.
The Brooklyn cruise port is a 15-minute drive from Brooklyn Bridge Park , which offers some of the best views of downtown Manhattan. If you're looking to stretch your legs, the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan offers just over a mile of picturesque city viewpoints.
While Bayonne, New Jersey may not be a huge destination, sailing from Cape Liberty does provide a postcard-perfect look at the Manhattan skyline and its famous neighbor, the Statue of Liberty.
Which cruise lines sail out of New York?
Both large cruise ships and a few smaller ships cruise from New York , giving you the option to choose a vessel with lots of restaurants and lounges, or one that’s cozier with fewer dining options. A variety of cruise lines—including Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC, Holland America, Disney, Cunard, Silversea, Oceania Cruises, and Viking—sail from New York City. The variety caters to all types of travelers, whether you're looking to cruise from New York for as little as a few hundred dollars or drop thousands on a bucket list vacation.
Where do cruises go from New York?
Cruises from New York sail to Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Europe, the United Kingdom, Bermuda, the Caribbean, and beyond. Several world cruises also stop in New York.
The moral of the story is whether it’s a short island escape or the unforgettable journey of a lifetime you’re after, a cruise from New York will result in PTO well spent. Ahead, we pulled some of your best options for cruising from New York City.
The Disney Magic cruise ship sailing the Hudson River
Best short cruise from New York
If you've only got a few days, consider Bermuda. Several cruise lines including Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian Cruise Line offer four- and five-night cruises from New York to Bermuda. It does take a full day to cruise between New York to Bermuda, but there are few more relaxing ways to start or end a cruise than with a laid-back sea day. Choose a four-night cruise if you’re short on time or a five-night cruise for a little more time to explore Bermuda’s pink sand beaches.
Best long cruise from New York
The only thing better than cruising out of New York may be cruising back into the Big Apple after an adventure of a lifetime. Oceania’s 51-night Epic Northern Hemisphere Cruise, scheduled for the summer of 2024, will certainly check the box. The cruise stops in classic American summer vacation spots like Bar Harbor in Maine and Newport before heading to Greenland, Iceland, and several ports in continental Europe. Spend port days exploring cities including Amsterdam, Paris , Dublin, and Belfast before making your way back to New York City. The Insignia , which is scheduled to sail this itinerary, accommodates just under 700 passengers. Onboard facilities include shuffleboard, putting greens, a fitness center, a spa, and a salon.
Best family cruise from New York
Cruise from New York to Bermuda and back on a four- to six-night sailing on board the Disney Dream . One of the larger ships in Disney’s fleet, the Dream is sure to keep your kids occupied with mini golf, water features, and sports courts galore. There’s also a live performance theater and a movie theater on board. The Disney Dream can accommodate a maximum of 4,000 passengers in its 1,250 staterooms. The ship is inspired by 1930s passenger ships and features a black hull and twin red chimneys. Tinier details include a statue in the lobby that celebrates the one and only Donald Duck.
Best fall foliage cruise from New York
There are few better ways to experience fall foliage than cruising along the Eastern seaboard in the fall. Seabourn offers a 12-day fall foliage cruise from New York , which stops at ports in Rhode, Island, Maine , and Quebec. The itinerary includes an overnight stay in Halifax, Nova Scotia, before ending in Montreal . This cruise departs New York on the day of embarkation, so you may want to arrive a couple of days early to explore the city ahead of your cruise.
Best transatlantic cruise from New York
When it comes to transatlantic sailings, Cunard sets the standard. The legendary Queen Mary II sails between Brooklyn and Southampton in southern England—and you can even bring your pup on board. The Queen Mary II is equipped with kennel space, though you’ll want to book in advance as it’s limited. You’ll also want to pack a jacket and ties or evening dresses as some facilities onboard require formal attire. Prepare yourself for lots of sea days and some potentially rough waters; each of Cunard’s transatlantic crossings requires a minimum of six sea days.
A Regent Seven Seas ship passing through Venice
Best Northern European cruise from New York
For an unforgettable adventure through Canada, Greenland, and Iceland , check out Regent Seven Seas, which cruises from Manhattan to Northern Europe over 18 nights. This cruise from New York stops at summer hotspots Martha's Vineyard before continuing to Saint John and Halifax in Canada en route to Greenland and Iceland. This cruise makes three stops in Greenland and two stops in Iceland. The journey requires just three sea days, the first of which is likely to be a welcome rest day after several days in port.
Best Mediterranean cruise From New York
In just 16 nights, sail from Manhattan to Bermuda, Portugal, Spain , the south of France, and Italy on the Norwegian Breakaway , a ship that accommodates just over 4,000 passengers and is sure to offer something for everyone. The Norwegian Breakaway offers several restaurants and lounges on board as well as Broadway shows, five multistory waterslides, and the largest ropes course at sea. On its Mediterranean sailing, the Norwegian Breakaway stops in Lisbon , Malaga, Barcelona, Cannes, and Rome.

5 Best Cruises From New York
Where will your ship sail to as you head off into the sunset .
By Donna Heiderstadt | Published on January 24, 2024
New York City is famous for many things, including skyscrapers, Broadway shows and some of the world's top restaurants. It's also a great jumping-off point for cruises to the Caribbean, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, New England and even transatlantic crossings to Europe.
Some of the top cruises out of New York are available with Royal Caribbean, which sails from Cape Liberty, New Jersey. The cruise terminal is located on the southwestern side of New York Harbor and is easily reached by car. Long-term parking is available, so you can head out on your cruise after making the drive.
If you plan to fly in before your cruise, Newark Liberty International Airport is just nine miles away. You can arrange to be met by a Royal Caribbean representative there and whisked off to your ship. Or you can arrive a day or two early to enjoy the sights and activities of New York City. Catch a Broadway show, see the Statue of Liberty or explore The Metropolitan Museum of Art before setting sail. When it's time to board, book a car service or taxi to Cape Liberty, about 20 minutes away from the Holland Tunnel (without traffic), and get ready for your getaway.
One of my favorite memories of sailing from Cape Liberty aboard Anthem of the Seas ® was the 360-degree view of New York Harbor with the Statue of Liberty set against the lower Manhattan skyline. Stay on deck until your ship passes beneath the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, and as you enter the Atlantic Ocean, look left to catch a glimpse of the circa-1927 Cyclone roller coaster on Coney Island.
Where will your ship sail to as you head off into the sunset? There are a variety of incredible options, so read on for the five best cruises from New Jersey sailing out of Cape Liberty.
1. Best For A Caribbean Vacation
Is the Caribbean calling, but you'd rather sail there than fly? If you live within driving distance of the New York metro area, island-hopping is as easy as boarding Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas ® or Odyssey of the Seas ℠ in Cape Liberty for a sun-seekers cruise from New Jersey.
These 4,180-guest Quantum Class ships offer 11- or 12-night Southern Caribbean cruise itineraries in January of 2024 — easily some of the most exciting cruises out of New York. Depending on the sailing, you can visit four to six islands after unpacking just once onboard the ship. Both ships also offer thrilling onboard amenities and world-class entertainment for couples and families. Some of my favorite spaces are Two70® for multimedia performances and the SeaPlex® for court sports and bumper car rides.
Ports visited vary, but itineraries include San Juan, Puerto Rico, where historic sites meet eco-adventure; Phillipsburg, St. Maarten, for incredible beaches and duty-free shopping; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, for scenic tours and snorkeling adventures; Castries, St. Lucia, for breathtaking landscapes and Creole cuisine; and Bridgetown, Barbados , for food tours and rum tasting. No matter the itinerary, you'll get the full Caribbean experience on these sailings.
2. Best For Fall Leaf-Peeping
Some of the best cruises out of New York are timed around fall foliage season. Royal Caribbean's nine-night Canada and New England sailings on Liberty of the Seas ® visit some of the region's top ports in September and October of 2024 and offer access to vivid landscapes and seasonal activities.
Liberty of the Seas ® , a 3,798-guest Freedom Class ship, is a great option for both couples and families, with 10 dining venues and onboard attractions that include the Tidal Wave℠ water slide and an ice-skating rink.
You'll visit Boston , a beacon for history lovers, followed by Portland, Maine for fresh seafood, microbreweries and lighthouses. Canada's autumnal display can be enjoyed during calls on Sydney and Halifax in Nova Scotia, where coastal hamlets such as Peggy's Cove are postcard-perfect against a patchwork of orange, red and gold. Nature is equally magnificent in St. John, New Brunswick, where tides in the Bay of Fundy recede to reveal stunning rock formations.
3. Best For A Playful Island Escape
If your family cruise goals include a breezy island escape with lots of playtime, Royal Caribbean's seven-night Bahamas & Perfect Day Cruise from Cape Liberty on Anthem of the Seas® is a fantastic option. It's available on nine dates from February to April in 2024
You'll call on Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida), where you can soak up the sunshine on a nearby beach, visit the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex or head to an Orlando theme park. Next up: Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's incredible private Bahamian island experience. It offers something for every member of the family, from pristine beaches that are perfect for a swim to Thrill Waterpark® with its spiraling slides and wave pool.
If you're cruising as a couple, join the party at Oasis Lagoon® , the Caribbean's largest pool, or relax in a private overwater bungalow at Coco Beach Club® . The final port is lively Nassau in The Bahamas, where local hospitality can be enjoyed on snorkeling excursions, dolphin encounters and visits to the Aquaventure waterpark at Atlantis.
With three sea days, playtime continues onboard Anthem of the Seas ® — including a ride in the North Star® sightseeing capsule for a birds-eye view of the glittering Bahamian islands.
4. Best For An Easy Couple's Getaway
What's better than two days in beautiful Bermuda? Two more fun-filled days aboard Liberty of the Seas ®. Royal Caribbean's five-night Bermuda cruise from Cape Liberty is offered on 15 dates from May to October in 2024 and these cruises from New York make an ideal couple's getaway. The itinerary mixes Bermuda's history, stunning landscapes and legendary dark rums with the onboard spa treatments and romantic specialty dining that Royal Caribbean guests love.
Liberty of the Seas ® spends two days at the Royal Naval Dockyard, which offers access to nearby shopping and museums as well as shore excursions to historic St. George's, scenic Horseshoe Bay and the island's capital, Hamilton.
5. Best For Your First Transatlantic Crossing
It's hard to imagine anything better than enjoying your first transatlantic cruise onboard the spectacular Anthem of the Seas ®. There's the luxury of time and space as you cross the sea, plus stops in four European countries.
Your experience during the crossing is just as important as your days spent in Europe. While the sun is out, head for the Solarium pool, an indoor, adults-only oasis, or the Vitality℠ Spa for a rejuvenating facial or tension-taming massage. At night, enjoy shows at the Royal Theater, rock cover bands in Music Hall and explore your favorite global cuisines in the main dining room or one of the ship's seven specialty restaurants.
After crossing the Atlantic, the ship's April 2024 cruise calls on Funchal, Madeira, a Portuguese island known for its spectacular scenery and Madeira wine-tasting rooms. Then you'll visit La Coruna, Spain for a day spent exploring the city's ancient Roman heritage and seafood-centric culinary scene. With 12 hours in Le Havre, France, you can take a quick day trip to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower, and after departing in Southampton, England, it's easy to end your dream journey with a few nights in London.
Ready to set sail on a cruise from New York City? To book a cruise to any of these great destinations, check out sailings from Cape Liberty and discover how cruises from NYC offer it all: ease, excitement and endless possibilities.

Cruises from/to Paris, France
Paris, france cruise port.
So much has been said of Paris. It’s one of the most visited cities in the world. If you’ve never been, it’s a must, as you need to experience the stunning stature of the Eiffel Tower and stroll through the decadent hall of mirrors in Versailles. If you have been to Paris before, it’s certainly worth a second look. With so many attractions, there’s certainly something you missed or something new. And even if Paris may seem like an old hat, we can promise you the food is always fresh and ready to invigorate your palate with a richness that only the French can serve up. Featured below are a few of the best ways to spend your time in Paris, France:
- Whether you’re wondering just what Mona Lisa is smirking at or what ever happened to Venus de Milo’s arms, you can find out when you visit The Louvre in Paris.
- Grab a baguette, some butter, a chunk of cheese and, of course, a bottle of wine and head to the Square du Vert-Galant for a picture perfect Parisian picnic.
- Take a tour of the dark side of Paris in the city’s catacombs. The catacombs are a graveyard of sorts where bones are displayed in an artistic manner under the streets of the city.
- See the outrageous lifestyle of Paris’ former royalty at the Palace of Versailles. You can tour this structure with its gold fixtures and heavy chandeliers. This was once the spot that Marie Antoinette called home.
- Kick up your legs, or maybe just sit back and let the dancing girls take care of that at the Moulin Rouge. This was a famous cabaret in the late 1800s where the can-can gained popularity.

Stella McCartney knows the secret to ageless style
F ashion month is almost at an end. Four fashion capitals – New York , London , Milan and Paris – hundreds of shows and thousands of outfits. In a few more weeks, the bigger brands will be showcasing their Pre-Spring and Cruise collections. So perhaps this is a good moment to talk about what this relentless cycle is doing to the planet?
Stella McCartney thinks so. Credit to her. She’s not going to drop this cause like an unwanted past-season accessory. Her show opened in Monday’s blazing Paris sunshine to the soundtrack of Olivia Colman narrating a poem from Mother Earth to the human race.
Some would argue that if McCartney were really committed to cutting back consumption she’d close her label. But the dichotomy of being at the centre of a system that creates desire even while it anguishes about the effects of that desire isn’t lost on her.
She got into fashion, she says, “because I was inspired by my parents’ clothes. They always loved tailoring and that set me on a path to Savile Row ”. She spent three years there, learning to set the perfect sleeves. Initially her challenge was to build a luxury fashion house that didn’t use leather or fur. Job done. Her silver chain-edged mycelium (a mushroom compound) and fabric bags can be seen dangling from fashionable shoulders all over the world. This season, along with practically every other designer, she tucked her bags under the models’ elbows close to their bodies: clutch bags that aren’t actually clutches.
As for fur, she’s developed a responsibly-sourced wool that creates the same empowering silhouette as fox fur – and it gave the models a similar swagger. “I hope there’s a way of doing all this that doesn’t look like a compromise,” she said of the luxurious coats. “The short blue one Lila wore in the show is something I’d totally wear now.” She’s referring to Lila Moss , Kate Moss’s daughter, who modelled in her show. “I saw her the day she was born… it makes me feel quite maternal backstage.”
She may be working with a new generation, but they’re still wearing looks she made current two decades ago. This collection didn’t deviate much from the classic McCartney template of masculine tailoring juxtaposed with “craftsy meets soft boho knits and silks” – and it was all the better for it. Shoulders were, to use her phrase, “strong”, and trousers boyish and slouchy, or as McCartney put it, “a bit David Byrne. I love it when the waistband sits on that hipbone.” The trousers she wore were long, pooling on the floor – so far, so fashion.
Essentially, you can get away with a trouser suit from any Stella McCartney collection of the past decade and look just fine. As illustrated by Barbara Bach, 76, who wore a black tuxedo jacket on the front row with husband Sir Ringo Starr, 83; next to them were Sir Paul McCartney , 81, and his wife Nancy Shevell, 64, in a white single-breasted coat – testament to the timelessness and agelessness of good tailoring.
Thanks to her own resources and the investment of LVMH, which owns half her business, McCartney can access cutting edge and environmentally-friendly techniques and materials, as well as recycling the sequins that were scattered across the hems of tweed jackets. But ultimately, the best thing she can do is design clothes that don’t go out of style.
Revenue wise, Zimmermann, the billion-dollar Australian brand, is way bigger than McCartney. But arguably the way Nicky Zimmermann teamed soft fluid shapes with harder-edged leather pencil skirts and hipster-cut trousers harked back to the sexy, slick, masculine/feminine vibe McCartney and Phoebe Philo created two decades ago at Chloé.
Suffice to say, paring back the frills and purging (most of) the florals and instead focussing on billowing sleeves, scarf-neck blouses and easy blazers, as well as introducing some leopard print and fake fur, paid off in spades. Anh Duong, 63, one-time model and artist, sat front row in a monochrome Zimmermann chiffon maxi dress, proving this label has broadened its horizons since its Aussie socialite days. This was easily Zimmermann’s best, breeziest collection since bringing her show to Paris.
