And Kacey Musgraves dedicated this cheerful tune to her favorite food.

In her song “Drinks”, Cyn doesn’t care about anything but getting drinks with her friends.

It’s a nice tune to start the weekend.

When it comes to weekend drinks, perhaps you prefer honey whiskey.

In this catchy song, the protagonist thinks it’s better to leave before doing something he might regret. Well, it’s a relatable story.

And maybe you feel like staying at home with a glass of milk?

In that case, Kings of Leon would make a nice soundtrack.

They released “Milk” on their second studio album in 2004.

39. Sofi Tukker – “Drinkee”

“Drinkee” is Sofi Tukker’s debut single, and it’s actually adapted from the poem “Relógio” by the Brazilian Portuguese writer Chacal.

Here comes another song about food mentioning cherry. A sour cherry, to be precise.

When it comes to song titles with food in them, Roxette’s 2001 track obviously belongs on the list.

However, unlike the Blur track, it’s a really tender and simple pop song.

“Black Coffee” is a dreamy feel-good song released in 2000.

It’s a great tune to start your day with.

We’re not sure if Billy Raffoul is singing to coffee or someone he loves. Maybe both.

And what is coffee without biscuits?

Fink released “Biscuits” on his debut album “Biscuits for Breakfast.”

Considering Fink’s music and songwriting, this is probably not a song about food, but it has nice references to it.

It’s time for a fun song list.

In case you hadn’t noticed, there are many songs out there about food and drink.

Oftentimes, the reference to food or drink is just a metaphor for something else, and the songs usually have deeper meanings, but we’ll be getting into that too.

Further, you will find links to various recipes throughout, which should take the fun factor to a new level.

So, let’s dig in!

“Cherry Pie” by Warrant

Song year: 1990

It’s hard not to think of this song when looking back on the history of hair metal, which was about to meet its doom when this song was released.

There aren’t any hidden meanings to “Cherry Pie.” It’s simply a song about being in lust with a girl.

But if you’re interested in making a great cherry pie, here’s a recipe worth checking out.

“Brown Sugar” by The Rolling Stones

Song year: 1971

With its trademark chorus, “Brown Sugar” by The Rolling Stones is simply unforgettable.

This is the opening track from their 1971 release Sticky Fingers and the lead single.

Mick Jagger wrote most of “Brown Sugar”, apparently using his secret girlfriend and mother of his first child, Marsha Hunt, as inspiration (though its origin is somewhat debated now).

Subversively, “Brown Sugar” may well be one of the dirtiest rock songs of all time. The reason it lives on, however, might have more to do with its musical content as opposed to its lyrical content, which most people aren’t familiar with.

There aren’t any brown sugar recipes that I know of, but I think we can all agree it is a delicious ingredient all by itself.

“American Pie” by Don McLean

With references to screaming, crying, dying and more, Don McLean’s “American Pie” hardly seems like a happy song . Yet, without digging a little further into the lyrics, its meaning will prove hard to decipher.

For better or for worse, McLean has avoided most questions to do with the song, suggesting that it’s poetic, which it certainly is.

Through the years, he made some vague claims about it being a tribute to America, as well as Buddy Holly, who tragically died on February 3, 1959 in a plane crash.

In 2015, when the lyrics and notes to the song were auctioned off, it was revealed that it was a song about America heading in the wrong direction. Bummer.

It’s also a near-verbatim retelling of the death of Meredith Hunter, who was killed at the 1969 Altamont Free Concert.

“Cheeseburger In Paradise” by Jimmy Buffet

Song year: 1978

Jimmy Buffet’s “Cheeseburger In Paradise” is a Parrot Head anthem, even if at first listen it sounds like a goofy song about an American favorite.

Apparently, the song goes a little deeper. It was inspired by Buffet’s real-life experience. Due to a boating mishap in the Caribbean, he was forced to eat canned food and peanut butter until he reached the island of Tortola, where he promptly ordered a cheeseburger. What a relief.

“Rock Lobster” by B-52’s

There are few songs that characterize new wave music like “Rock Lobster” by the B-52’s, who were clearly the template for 90s Europop group, Aqua as well.

It seems like a goofy song about nothing, which explains its popularity, but of course it isn’t. One readthrough of the lyrics will leave you wondering too.

Apparently, the song was inspired by a discotheque in Atlanta called “2001”. Instead of a light show, the club had a slide show with pictures of puppies, babies and lobsters on a grill.

Either way, it’s clear that this is a bit of an odd one.

“Red Red Wine” by UB40

Song year: 1983

Originally by Neil Diamond, UB40’s “Red Red Wine” is probably the more popular, more recognized version of the song. Even Diamond himself now opts for UB40’s reggae arrangement when performing it live, instead of the original acoustic ballad arrangement.

The lyrics tell a sad story of a brokenhearted man once in love with a woman he can’t forget… that is, of course, unless he’s drinking red wine. This is a great example of a song with a color in the title .

“Ice Cream Man” by Van Halen

“Ice Cream Man” was the 10th track on Van Halen’s legendary, eponymous, debut release, Van Halen .

The song was originally written by John Brim and recorded by Elmore James. The acoustic intro, interestingly, was performed by singer and leadman David Lee Roth himself (instead of guitarist Eddie Van Halen), on an open E tuned guitar.

Not much needs to be said about the lyrics. The narrator is singing to the ladies, letting them know that all his flavors are “guaranteed to satisfy.”

If you’re in the mood for a bit of ice cream, you’ll be glad to know it’s not as hard to make as you might think. Here’s a great ice cream recipe , which only takes about 20 minutes to make.

“Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson

Song year: 2005

Unlike many of Johnson’s songs, which are about heartbreak and often rich with metaphor, “Banana Pancakes” is a simple song about being in love and wanting to spend all day with that special someone.

Being in love is a great feeling and self-control often goes out the window. That seems to be what this song encapsulates.

Of course, I hardly need to mention that if you’re craving banana pancakes , you’ll find some wonderful recipes out there.

“Black Coffee” by Humble Pie

Song year: 1973

Is this song simply a celebration of black coffee? Hmm… maybe.

I mean, I’m sure there would be more than a few who would cite coffee as a lifesaver. Some of us need it just to get our day started.

“Black Coffee”, however, seems to be making a bit of a statement about racism and multiculturalism. You can’t help but pick up on words like “skin” and “slave” while reading the lyrics.

Either way, this bluesy classic is awesome.

“Tequila Sunrise” by The Eagles

The ever popular “Tequila Sunrise” tells the story of a heartbroken man who has trouble letting go of a girl that’s “out runnin’ ‘round.” So, a Tequila Sunrise, in this instance, would basically be waking up after another night of drinking.

This was the first single from the band’s second album Desperado , and it was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, who had yet to collaborate on a song as a songwriting duo.

Tequila Sunrise, of course, refers to a popular cocktail and you can find a recipe here .

“Cola” by Lana Del Rey

Song year: 2012

Here’s a song that tries to be clever but just ends up coming across devious and cringe worthy.

The inspiration came from Lana Del Rey’s Scottish boyfriend Barrie-James O’Neill, who deemed American girls exotic and patriotic.

Without that context, however, the lyrics just have you rolling your eyes endlessly.

“Cinnamon Girl” by Neil Young

Song year: 1969

A relatively straightforward song for Canadian-American singer-songwriter Neil Young, “Cinnamon Girl” has the narrator dreaming of a spicy lady.

To be fair, though, we’re left wondering exactly what a “cinnamon girl” is, and for that matter, what these words refer to: “Pa send me money now / I’m gonna make it somehow.”

Music critics seem equally puzzled, so perhaps it doesn’t matter all that much. It’s kind of a cool song, though. Thanks Young.

“Bloody Mary” by Lady Gaga

Song year: 2011

Many will know that “Bloody Mary” is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice and other spices. Of course, the two words juxtaposed conjure up all kinds of religious imagery too.

Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” is obviously aware of this fact, as it makes some rather obvious references to Pontius, crucifixion and Jesus.

From the opening line, the lyrics equate love with religion. And, those themes basically carry throughout. So, I wouldn’t say this song is overly deep.

“Kiwi” by Maroon 5

Song year: 2007

Like most Maroon 5 songs, this one is about being in lust with a girl.

Not much more needs to be said about the rather obvious metaphors. Can you even call it a metaphor when it’s this overt?

The song is kind of catchy though.

“Honey” by Mariah Carey

Song year: 1997

“Honey” a song about being in love.

For a bit of context, Carey started exercising more creative control over her career when she started working on Butterfly . That’s when she began incorporating more of a hip-hop sound into her music.

This is also reflected in who she collaborated with – namely, Q-Tip and Puff Daddy.

A bold move by Carey, but it seems to have paid off.

“Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles

Song year: 1967

The Beatles somehow manage to sneak their way into our song list again with “Strawberry Fields Forever”, a song that mainly seems to be about escaping life’s troubles and difficulties.

The song has a rich backstory, which you’re welcome to research and explore on your own time.

But if I were to summarize, it’s basically about longing for the early days of The Beatles, before all the controversy and challenges they encountered. This is still an oversimplification, mind you.

Strawberries are a versatile fruit, so there are many recipes you can explore here .

“Birthday Cake” by Rihanna

Like many Rihanna songs, “Birthday Cake” is incredibly repetitive and unrewarding.

And, like Maroon 5’s “Kiwi”, the “metaphor” is eye roll worthy and the lyrics later in the song make it abundantly clear, just in case you were left out of the loop (unlikely).

Not sure you’d even want to eat cake after imagining the unspeakable, but there are some great birthday cake recipes out there.

“Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard

Song year: 1987

Not that there are any deep, rich meanings hidden in Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, but when it’s this catchy and rich in imagery, it’s far more satisfying than the previous entry on our list.

Odd bit of trivia – “Pour Some Sugar On Me” wasn’t an instant hit, and Hysteria reached number one of the Top Pop Albums chart a year after release.

“Custard Pie” by Led Zeppelin

Song year: 1975

Again, no hidden meanings here. Led Zeppelin’s “Custard Pie” is about being in lust. Enough said.

Custard, however, is delicious and who can resist custard pie ?

“Strawberry Swing” by Coldplay

Song year: 2008

“Strawberry Swing” by Coldplay basically seems to be about people who choose an ordinary life. This is in line with these lyrics: “People moving all the time / Inside a perfectly straight line / Don’t you wanna curve away.”

Some have said the song is about the transition from childhood to adulthood and the loss of innocence, which is a common theme in music.

Either way, I wouldn’t call it the most uplifting song in the world.

“My Bacon Roll” by Mark Knopfler

Song year: 2018

A song that mostly seems to be a tribute to the working class. Knopfler apparently overhead a man at a café near the BBC in Portland Place say, “Have you got my roll? My bacon roll?”

It seems he ran with the idea and built an entire story around this man.

Bacon rolls are more popular in the UK, but they do sound delicious, and you can even find recipes online .

“Poundcake” by Van Halen

Song year: 1991

If there’s any song that sums up Sammy Hagar era Van Halen (which some fans refuse to acknowledge), it’s this song, “Poundcake”, which begins with some otherworldly electric drill sounds Eddie achieved by literally holding electric drill up to his guitar’s pickups and activating it.

The mid-tempo rocker by party band Van Halen is mostly sophomoric in nature, however, and it isn’t about anything deep and meaningful.

Pound cake, however, is delicious, and you can find a recipe here .

“Peaches” by The Presidents Of The United States Of America

Song year: 1995

There are a couple of themes that seem to be running through “Peaches.”

The first is the industrialization of farms, which you can gather from these lines: “Peaches come from a can / They were put there by a man / In a factory downtown.”

The second theme is about being in love with someone, which lead singer Chris Ballew has confirmed. He noted that this was a song about a girl he had a crush on and he wrote it under a peach tree she had in her yard while waiting for her to come home so he could tell her he liked her.

“Apples” by Lily Allen

Lily Allen’s “Apples” is a song about breaking up. This is evident from the first lines.

The song paints a vivid picture of the progression the relationship went through. But the narrator couldn’t handle it and declares: “I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”, suggesting that she grew up in a broken home.

Not a subtle song. Not even clever. But it is vulnerable and honest, so you’ve got to give it that.

“Apples And Oranges” by Pink Floyd

“Apples And Oranges” seems to be a song about a girl who has it all together and therefore gets treated well by everyone she meets.

There doesn’t seem to be any deeper meanings and the lyrics mostly seem whimsical anyway.

“Watermelon In Easter Hay” by Frank Zappa

Song year: 1979

Penned by the eccentric but brilliant Frank Zappa, “Watermelon In Easter Hay” is a song from the 1979 concept album Joe’s Garage .

This song finds the main character becoming increasingly depressed about the decline of the music industry. He copes by imagining guitar solos.

Zappa, it seems, was incredibly prophetic in making this observation.

“Mayonaise” by The Smashing Pumpkins

Song year: 1993

Reportedly, songwriter Billy Corgan threw together the lyrics for “Mayonaise” at the last minute. Although somewhat random, Corgan later discovered the song was somehow reflective of his own experience.

I think you’re welcome to attach whatever meaning you want to this beloved Pumpkins classic, which is anything but hopeful and cheery.

And, yes, there are mayonnaise recipes out there, in case you’re interested.

“Vegetables” by The Beach Boys

At face value, “Vegetables” is just a goofy song about eating vegetables, perhaps to encourage children to eat more?

Apparently, though, part of what inspired this song is Brian Wilson’s obsession with physical fitness, especially in the late 60s.

Funny how this message doesn’t seem entirely out of place here in 2020, as people begin to place more focus on eating well and staying healthy.

“Hot Dog” by Led Zeppelin

“Hot Dog” by Led Zeppelin is about being brokenhearted . It’s about losing someone you loved and feeling like you don’t know what to do.

As with other Zeppelin songs, it seems the title has little to do with the content of the song.

But I could go for a hot dog now. Here’s a killer recipe for a grilled cheese dog .

“Lemon” by U2

Bono’s late mother was the inspiration for “Lemon.” Apparently, he received early Super 8 footage of his mother, aged 24, playing a game of rounders in slow motion, in the mail. She was wearing a lemon-colored dress and was a maid of honor at a wedding.

The song, therefore, is about using film to preserve memories. Honestly, maybe it isn’t just about film but about preserving memories in general, as this song seems to.

“Pork And Beans” by Weezer

At base, a mundane and unappealing sounding title, “Pork And Beans” is a song about trying to keep up with the trends and staying young.

Simultaneously, the chorus sems to contradict this notion, declaring: “One look in the mirror and I’m tickled pink / I don’t give a hoot about what you think.”

Lead singer and guitarist Rivers Cuomo has stated that the song was a reaction to a meeting he had with Geffen executives who suggested the band create more commercially viable material. Cuomo left feeling angry, but it inspired this song, so he had the last laugh.

Of course, you can find pork and beans recipes out there too.

“Burrito” by Seether

The song’s title doesn’t appear in the lyrics but is clearly a reference to the idea that the narrator wants to hide from the world.

“My hands are stained with scum / Wish I could wash it away” indicates that the narrator may have been an unwilling accomplice in a wrongdoing. It’s possible he stood by and watched as someone he knew did something he didn’t agree with.

This makes “Burrito” a rather haunting song, as we don’t know what happened or what went wrong. All we know is that the narrator feels guilty and wants to be hated.

A burrito, however, sounds good just about now, and there are some burrito recipes out there.

“Breakfast In America” by Supertramp

As far as I can tell, “Breakfast In America” is primarily about being unhappy in a relationship and wanting to escape from it to find something better.

Another interpretation (although similar to my initial observation), is that it’s a song about wanting to leave your country to see America.

If you’ve ever fantasized about being somewhere else, then this is your song.

“Ice Cream” by Sarah Mclachlan

Song year: 1994

Just a simple song about being in love , Mclachlan compares her special someone to ice cream and chocolate and says he’s better than either.

I suppose you could say it’s a commentary on the addictive nature of relationships.

Anyway, it’s a sweet sentiment (pun intended).

“Wine After Whiskey” by Carrie Underwood

The title kind of says it all, don’t you think? “Wine After Whiskey” is about drinking away your pain after a breakup.

And, in this case the narrator is having trouble letting go because the love she experienced was nothing like she’d ever experienced before.

If you don’t get the reference, however, it’s basically saying that mixing drinks generally gives you the worst hangover of all. Take note.

“Dinner Bell” by They Might Be Giants

Song year: 1992

They Might Be Giants songs are often intellectual and open to interpretation and that’s what makes them fun!

If I were to take my own stab at what this song is about, I would say it’s about Pavlovian conditioning. The tendency for society to accept things as they are and do what they’re told. They don’t have their own opinion about anything and they’re just waiting for the higher ups to tell them what they should want.

Zombies aren’t coming. They’re real!

“Jambalaya (On The Bayou)” by Hank Williams

Song year: 1952

A song about celebration, “Jambalaya (On The Bayou)” is a classic country pop song with a melody based on the Cajun song “Grand Texas.”

Not much more to say here – this is a song about partying, fishing and falling in love.

“Supper’s Ready” by Genesis

Song year: 1972

The wordy “Supper’s Ready” is anything but an ordinary song with a simplistic message. Of course, that shouldn’t come as a surprise considering who authored it.

The Biblical references give you a bit of an idea that it’s a song about the end times, as detailed in the book of Revelation.

Peter Gabriel basically described it as a personal journey through the book of Revelation. I wonder what was happening in Gabriel’s life that prompted him to say that?

“Sukiyaki” by Kyu Sakamoto

Song year: 1961

This Japanese classic has little to do with sukiyaki, which is a Japanese hot pot (and it is delicious). The literal translation of the original song title is “I Look Up As I Walk.”

I can only imagine this is a song about being in the working class and having trouble finding a job. It certainly paints a good picture of what it’s like to eat in a diner.

And, while you may not need a recipe for eggs and sausage, here’s one for sausage, egg and cheddar farmer’s breakfast .

“Soup Is Good Food” by Dead Kennedys

Song year: 1985

Dead Kennedys’ “Soup Is Good Food” is a song about how computers are taking over the working class and how human beings are obsolete next to the machines.

It’s also a commentary on the pharmaceutical industry and how there is no room for someone who’s depressed. If you’re not feeling right, you are given a prescription.

The Dead Kennedys were quite prophetic, it seems.

They are also right that soup is good food. Here’s a recipe for carrot ginger soup .

“Chocolate Cake” by Crowded House

This is one of those songs that the artist obviously left open to interpretation.

One interpretation that immediately came to mind for me is that it’s a satire for the middle class. A “cheap Picasso fake” would suggest that people are just trying to look good when they can’t afford the lifestyle they’re trying to model.

Another interpretation is that the song is basically saying people don’t appreciate real art. They just go along to get along and go with the masses. Thus, “chocolate cake”, which tastes delicious but has no apparent nutritional value.

“Dinner For Two” by David Byrne & St. Vincent

I take this song to mean that the truth is being hidden from us. We’ve been invited to a “dinner”, a pleasant gathering that’s nothing more than a distraction. But just outside the window, it’s total chaos. The reference to never being alone basically points to the idea that we are always being spied on.

Some sources simply described it as a song about life during wartime, but isn’t that all the time? There is always some kind of war going on.

“Eat At Home” by Paul McCartney

One of the world’s most successful songwriters, ladies and gentlemen. But this is one of those songs that will make you go “really, Paul?”

The lyrics are repetitive and don’t tell much of a story. It’s just about being in love with someone and wanting to spend time with them.

I guess we could say it’s genius if it was foreshadowing the bubblegum pop that was to come on its heels.

Anyway, the music is great.

Through some overt euphemisms about ‘licking frosting’ and ‘eating cake by the ocean’, this song talks about engaging in activities that are not safe for work in a pretty obvious way.

But, regardless of if you want to take the real meaning into consideration, it’s just a great summer track to sing along to in the car with the windows down. It’s probably also a fun song to listen to while eating some (actual) cake by the ocean.

“Peach Jam” – Joji feat Bloc Boy JB

The first Asian-born artist to reach number 1 on BillboardsTop R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in November 2018. Japanese singer/songwriter Joji’s music has been described as a mix of lo-fi and R&B.

Released on 88rising’s 2018 Head In The Clouds album, “Peach Jam” follows the same trend that ‘Cake By The Ocean’ does — this song is about sex.

Joji uses the term peach jam to mean something entirely unrelated to the sweet condiment itself. With lines like “So tasty on my tongue” and “I’m the only one you spread em for”, it’s not hard to guess what Joji might be talking about once you listen to the song. With a snappy beat and hitting bass, it feels just like the kind of summertime song that could use some peach-flavored foods.

“Sugar” – Maroon 5

Hitting number 2 on US Billboards Hot 100 list “Sugar” is an upbeat pop-funk song perfect for a summer road trip. Released as a single on Maroon 5’s fifth studio album V, this song has a little bit of those sexual undertones that we’ve seen on the other two tracks.

But it also talks a lot about the love that Adam Levine has for the person he’s talking to, using sugar as a term of endearment.

This song is the perfect mix of love and lust over a catchy tune, making it obvious why it was a hit on radio stations everywhere.

“Chocolate” – The 1975

Released on The 1975’s self-titled debut album. ’Chocolate” hit #19 on the UK singles chart. It was also certified Gold in the US. The word chocolate is said frequently throughout the song, but — and this may not come as a surprise to many — its usage is not meant to refer to the food.

Chocolate is actually slang for a specific type of marijuana, called ’Chocolate Thai”, which is why lines like “Now we run, run away from the boys in the blue / and my car smells like chocolate” only make sense if you know what chocolate really refers to.

In the end, it’s a song about growing up, adventure, and weed told through a sense of rebellion against local authorities.

“Cookie Jar” – Gym Class Heroes feat The-Dream

The second single off of Gym Class Heroes’ album The Quilt, this song was written and released when front man Travis McCoy was in a relationship with Katy Perry, which might give us some context for the meaning of the track.

The lyrics talk about the temptation to cheat on a girlfriend when other girls come around, likened to being unable to keep your hands out of a cookie jar.

McCoy pretty blatantly lists types of cookies next to ethnicities of, presumably the girls he’s tempted by in the second verse, which gives us an interesting visual of what this song’s about. It’s a bit repetitive, but the connection is obvious. It’ll probably just leave you wanting cookies, to be completely honest.

“Watermelon Sugar” – Harry Styles

Taking both the 2021 Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year at the 41st Brit Awards. “Watermelon Sugar” appears on Harry Styles’ 2019 Fine Line album. Heavy guitar and horn usage lead this song making it a great mix of rock and indie pop. Its repetitive chorus is catchy, the phrase watermelon sugar a reference to In Watermelon Sugar (1968) by Richard Brautigan.

Where this inspiration might have come from, fans of Harry Styles have a pretty clear idea. The song talks about the high of first getting into a relationship, romantic or otherwise, with someone else.

The feeling of falling in love or becoming infatuated with that person’s presence is represented well in the summery lyrics and instrumentals.

“Strawberries & Cigarettes” – Troye Sivan

Released as a 2018 single from the Love, Simon soundtrack and also nominated at the 23rd Satellite Awards for Satellite Award for Best Original Song, this song is. shockingly, actually about strawberries and cigarettes.

It talks about a past lover, Sivan saying that they tasted like strawberries and cigarettes, but it also makes it clear that this song is meant to be bittersweet just like a love that you can’t quite seem to get over.

The contrasting taste of these two flavors match the relationship being described and the range of emotions that come with any complicated relationship. Overall, this track is quiet and nostalgic, a song about falling in love in a way that leaves you remembering it forever.

“Juice ” – Lizzo

“Chicken Tenders ” – Dominic Fike

Here’s another song that, surprisingly, is actually about the food it’s named after. Released on Dominic Fike’s first full-length album.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong, this track is all about staying in a luxurious hotel room with a lover while eating something as simple and every day as chicken tenders.

Whether chicken nuggets or chicken tenders are superior, we don’t have to talk about it. The track is upbeat and lighthearted, talking mostly about sex and food in a way that leaves us with a feel-good song with a fun beat and the energetic strums of an electric guitar, aspects that are very characteristic of Dominic Fike as an artist.

“Blueberry Eyes” – MAX feat. SUGA

Released on MAX’s Colour Vision album and featuring a good friend of his. SUGA of BTS. this song is nothing but romantic lyrics and good vibes. MAX talks about his love for his wife, Emily, and her blueberry eyes.

It also makes references to strawberry skies leaving the song feeling very fruity and bright. SUGA’s verse, entirely in Korean, talks about finding someone that acts as a ray of light in darkness and a life that can change simply by meeting someone bright and full of light.

MAX and a pregnant Emily star in the music video together, having filmed it at their home in the midst of COVID-19. It’s a song full of endearment and adoration, something that leaves listeners with a clear impression of just how much MAX loves his wife.

“Coffee ” – Tori Kelly

The first track on Tori Kelly’s Inspired by True Events album. ‘Coffee” talks about a long-distance relationship and the kind of longing that comes with it. With lines about missing a lover.

Kelly details small things in a person’s life that she’s jealous she isn’t present for like drinking coffee and going on drives together. She personifies everyday objects like the clothes that get to hug her lover’s body or the steering wheel that gets gripped by hands that she wishes to hold.

This makes it a bit of a song about heartbreak since these are all things that people in a normal relationship can share but people in a long-distance relationship have to long for.

“Tropicana” – Caleb Blair

The debut single of self-produced Caleb Blair. ‘Tropicana” is about the fantasy of being with someone who might be hesitant or isn’t sure that this relationship is the right thing.

He talks about a fairytale life of waking up together and sipping Tropicana. of living a peaceful life with each other. The pop elements of the track make the lyrics feel almost like an adventure or anthem of love that you can jam to with no problem.

“Sliced Bread” – Josie Proto

You know the phrase ‘better than sliced bread”? It’s just a way of saying that whatever you’re talking about is really great. Well, British singer-songwriter Josie Proto takes that to an interesting level when she says that kicking her cheating ex-lover out was better than sliced bread.

This song is all about that breakup and the suspicions she had along the way that there was another girl in her lover’s life.

But, although it’s about a broken heart and you’d expect it to be sad, the song is very upbeat and self-empowering, making it a really fun listen.

“Pasta”- New Rules

If there’s one song on this list that gives off positive, supportive vibes, it’s ‘Pasta”. A single released in 2020. this song is about societal pressure to look a certain way in order to be perceived as attractive.

It tells the story of a girl simply wanting to stay home and eat pasta because she doesn’t want to leave the house and deal with those pressures, which is something that probably everyone has felt at some point.

It was very well-received, with the members of New Rules even sharing their own insecurities and journey to self-love as a way to promote the song. This track is soft and a bit sad. but it talks about accepting who you are and how you look, which is a really positive message that makes “Pasta’ more than worth a listen.

“Bagels ” – Kota the Friend feat Lizzy Ashliegh

Released on his 2019 album FOTO, “Bagels’ talks about a lowkey, chill love that could come out of meeting up for coffee and bagels.

My favorite songs about food.

Sometimes, food is so good you've just got to sing about it.

When I was younger, I convinced my mother that my younger brothers and I should have "singing dinners," which would require everyone to sing anything we would normally speak until we were excused from the table. For some reason she agreed. Overcome with joy, I launched into a jubilant ode to my turkey burger (or whatever I was eating) and engaged in a lively call and response about green beans with my brothers.

My mother only let this go on occasionally, as one of my brothers always seemed to confuse singing with screaming at the top of his lungs. But I still find myself singing sometimes as I'm preparing food (in my defense, I was a music major in college).

Thankfully, I'm not alone. There are hundreds of artists who have produced hits with food as their muse, whether they sing about the food itself or a memory associated with it. Here are some of the songs about food that come to my mind, compiled with the help of this list.

"Suppertime," You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Musical : Once upon a time when I was an aspiring thespian, I was the lead dancer in this musical, which meant I got to star with Snoopy in this song as he bemoans the fact that Charlie Brown has forgotten to feed him . Despite the horrible memory of my horrendous costume, I still appreciate Snoopy's enthusiasm in this song—the dog just wants to eat. "So what's wrong with making mealtime a joyous occasion?" he asks Charlie, who can't seem to understand why Snoopy won't just eat his meal and quit whining already.

"C is for Cookie," The Cookie Monster, Sesame Street : Though I also think C is for chocolate, I used to love watching cookie monster dive head first into a pile of the treats after he finished singing "C is for cookie, and cookie is for me." But since then, the song has been changed to "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me," and he now reminds viewers that "cookies are a sometime treat."  Apparently some producers were concerned about what messages the song were sending about selfishness or obesity (one commenter on a discussion board even called our beloved cookie monster the "evil puppet demon of obesity"). I think Cookie just likes his cookies, and a lot of other people do, too.

" That's Amore ," Dean Martin : I guarantee if you walk into a restaurant or bar with an older crowd and begin to sing "Whennn theee moon hits your eye like a big-a pizza pie," your fellow patrons will be able to finish the line of lyrics with "that's amore." The food in this song (pizza, wine, pasta) is romantic; the scenery (Napoli, the streets of Italy) is romantic; and the ting-a-ling-a-ling of accompanying bells is romantic (or maybe just charming, but play along with me here). I can't guarantee that you'll make women swoon like Dean Martin did , though.

"Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk, " Rufus Wainwright : One of those songs that explores (in the beginning, anyway) how food and cravings make us feel. The sound of cigarettes and chocolate milk together sounds rather unappealing to me, but then again, I'm not a smoker or a famous lyricist. I think most of us can relate to what Wainwright says about jelly beans , though: "If I should buy jellybeans, have to eat them all in just one sitting. Everything it seems I like's a little bit sweeter, a little bit fatter, a little bit harmful for me."

"Peaches," Presidents of the United States : Some people have mixed interpretations of this song, but it always reminds me of summer and my favorite farming stands. If I were "movin' to the country," I'd eat a lot of peaches too. Sadly, the song also forecasts the only way I'll be able to find peaches when the weather moves toward winter: "Peaches come from a can, they were put there by a man in a factory downtown." This song, like a peach, is addicting, in part because it repeats "gonna eat me a lot of peaches" about 16 times, in one form or another.

What's your favorite song about food? Though the Turkey Burger serenade is among my best work, I've been singing another original composition as I make oatmeal-to-go for my morning commute: "Oats in a Jar" sung to the tune of another original composition, " Pants On The Ground," made famous by a man auditioning for the most recent season of American Idol. I have no explanation for why that happens, but who knows. If people can sing about cookies and peaches, who's to say a song about oats won't go viral?

I love listening to music when I travel.

It doesn’t matter whether I’m on an epic road trip with friends, waiting around in an airport, on a long bus journey, or whatever. I’ll turn on the radio, switch on the speakers, or put my headphones on to lose myself in a travel song or two.

However, there’s no denying that listening to music on the road (or at home, for that matter) is ten times better when you’re playing particular travel songs !

Some tracks just seem purpose-written to complement the travelling experience, evoke a pulsating sense of wanderlust, or make you nostalgic for bygone trips.

Chicago summer festivals 2024: Music, food, street festivals happening across the city | See list

C hicago summers are perfect for outdoor activities, whether it is exploring a street festival in a new community, or a free concert in Millennium Park.

Dozens of festivals happen every year in the city to celebrate culture, communities and genres of music.

The list below contains a variety of free and paid festivities happening across the city through September.

This list will continue to be updated as events are announced.

Chicago Salsa and Bachata Festival

April 18-21

Become immersed in Afro-Latin culture at this music and dance festival in Rosemont. Attendees of all skill levels can actively engage in the festival's activities through social dances, performance camps and workshops.

Ravinia Festival

Dates from April 20 through Sept. 15

Ravinia Festival is a series of over 100 summer concerts from artists like The Beach Boys with John Stamos and TLC. The outdoor venue has concert seating as well as a lawn area, where you can bring your own food and drinks for a concert picnic.

Summer at Gallagher Way

Dates from May through September

3635 N. Clark St., Chicago

Gallagher Way, located next to Wrigley Field, has a variety of family activities planned throughout the summer. Events like free movie nights, markets, concerts and more will be free and open to the public. View the schedule here .

The Patio Theater, Chicago

Solar Tide is a bass music and arts festival in Portage Park. Featuring 19 artists over two days, tickets start at $50.

Chicago Mayfest

West Armitage Avenue from Sheffield Avenue to Racine Avenue, Chicago

Mayfest returns for the 27th year in Lincoln Park. The street festival will have a variety of music performances, artisan and food vendors. A pet parade and a glassblowing workshop will also take place over the weekend.

Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest

3200 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago

This annual street festival will kick off summer in Lakeview with music, food and artisan vendors. The festivities are conveniently located steps away from the Belmont "L" station.

Randolph Street Market Festival

1341 W. Randolph St., Chicago

Randolph Street Market brands itself as a "fancy, European-style flea market." The market will have antiques, décor, vintage fashion, art and much more. Tickets start at $12, and children under 12 can attend the event for free.

Grant Park, Chicago.

This reggaeton and Latin music festival is celebrating its third year in Grant Park. Featuring dozens of vendors, activities and headliners like Peso Pluma and Rauw Alejandro, Sueños is a celebration of Latin culture in Chicago.

Do Division Street Fest

May 31, June 1-2

Division Street, between Damen Avenue and Leavitt Street, Chicago

This Wicker Park street festival has events planned for all ages. Local food and retail vendors will be featured, along with music performances and a fashion show. "Family Fun Fest" is a part of the festivities, focused on children's entertainment. There will be a petting zoo, an inflatable slide and kids' music.

Chicago Gospel Music Festival

Millennium Park, Chicago

Gospel music lovers of all ages are welcome to attend this free music festival at Millennium Park. Entrances for the event will be located at Randolph Street and Monroe Street. More details can be found here .

Beyond Wonderland Chicago

Huntington Bank Pavilion, Chicago

Beyond Wonderland is an "Alice in Wonderland" themed electric genre festival. This year's headliners include popular artists like Diplo and Benny Benassi.

Chicago House Music Festival

The Chicago House Music Festival is an annual celebration to recognize the roots of house music in the city. A series of conferences and events will lead up to the festival in Millennium Park. Admission is free and open to all ages.

Chicago Blues Festival

June 6- Ramova Theatre, Chicago

The opening night performances of the Chicago Blues Festival will take place at Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport. Online RSVPs can be made for free admission.

June 7-9- Millennium Park, Chicago

Three stages around Millennium Park will host 35 performances celebrating the history of blues music. Buddy Guy will headline the last day of the Chicago Blues Festival in one of the final performances of his "Damn Right Farewell" tour.

Puerto Rican Fest

Humboldt Park, Chicago

Puerto Rican Fest , or Fiestas Patronales Puertorriqueñas, is an annual cultural celebration in Humboldt Park with carnival rides, music, food, a parade and more.

Andersonville Midsommarfest

Clark Street from Foster Avenue to Gregory Street, Chicago

This community event is an annual celebration of Andersonville. Local vendors, food and music will take over Clark Street from Foster Avenue to Gregory Street.

Old Town Art Fair

1763 N. North Park Ave., Chicago

On this June weekend, the Old Town Triangle Historical District is transformed into a fine art wonderland. More than 200 fine artists from around the country will be at the Old Town Art Fair to sell and display their art.

Wells Street Art Fest

Wells Street between North Avenue and Division Street, Chicago

Art lovers can venture down the Wells Street corridor in Old Town and shop from artists from around the continent. The Wells Street Art Festival features food and drink vendors, music, entertainment and a children's play area.

Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash Festival

SeatGeek Stadium, Bridgeview

Three stages will host dozens of hip-hop performances over three days during the Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash Festival . This festival is an all-ages event.

Chicago Pride Fest

Halsted Street from Addison Street to Grace Street

Chicago Pride Fest is a weekend street festival in the Northalsted neighborhood. Halsted Street will be buzzing with live music, drag performances, parades and more.

Butler Field, Grant Park, Chicago

The plant-based food festival returns to Chicago with new innovative food options and lively entertainment. Attendees will have the opportunity to try vegan food from over 100 vendors from around the world, and enjoy performances from Saweetie, 2 Chainz and NLE Choppa.

Chinatown Summer Fair

Lollapalooza

For decades, the bond between humans and plants, encompassing food, caffeine, and magic mushrooms, has fascinated investigative journalist and author Michael Pollan.

Pollan’s early books, including The Omnivore's Dilemma and The Botany Of Desire ,  provoked a national conversation about the wonder of plants, what we eat, and where our food comes from. Pollan explores their therapeutic potential, remarking that the outcomes in addressing certain types of depression, anxiety, and addiction are nothing short of astonishing.

“I think we will come to understand that there’s a common denominator to the kinds of disorders psychedelics address effectively,” says Pollan. “It does seem to increase the kind of the plasticity of the brain and allows us to give up old narratives that are destructive, whether behaviorally or mentally, and write some new ones.”  

Pollan’s research also allowed him to experiment with both LSD and psilocybin,  

“My own psychedelic experiences, some of which were profoundly spiritual, I came to understand spirituality is essentially egolessness.… It was an experience where, when the walls of the ego come down, there's nothing between you and the world and there’s this wonderful sense of merging into something larger and greater than yourself.” 

Pollan’s most recent book, This is Your Mind on Plants , challenges our commonly held views on drugs and psychoactive plants - including our pervasive use of caffeine; “90% of people on our planet have a daily relationship with caffeine,” Pollan says, “that includes our children if we're letting them drink soda.”

In regards to Food Inc. 2 , the sequel to Oscar-nominated Food Inc . that came out last year,  Pollan revisits food conglomerates that provide us with so much of our food and discovers that the pandemic exposed even more cracks in the system:  “Something really interesting and revealing happened in America, which is that the food system fell apart,” says Pollan. “In a weird, paradoxical way, you have the split screen and on one screen were empty supermarket shelves and people buying, hoarding, whatever they could find in the supermarket, and then on the other side of the screen, you had farmers destroying their crops, spilling milk out onto the ground that they couldn't sell, and euthanizing animals, pigs, and chickens by the thousands. How could both these things be true?” 

Today, there has been a noticeable shift in how we procure our food, with many opting for farmers' markets, CSA memberships, and organic produce—a transformation described as a blossoming trend by Pollan. He says “It hasn't disturbed the giant multinational companies that are running the bulk of the food system. Their power has only grown and the risks that come with that power have also only grown.”

Though the prospect of significant change in food systems may appear bleak, Pollan injects a note of optimism by highlighting that "the food movement boasts influential allies", citing "Biden's antitrust policies" and " Cory Booker , the senator from New Jersey, who sits on the Agriculture Committee ." Senator Booker, Pollan says has “connected the dots and understands that the public health challenges of his constituents are connected to the agricultural policies that are dictating what kind of food we're growing.”
