The 4 Best Travel Trailers With A Built-In Generator
- Last Updated: March 16, 2024
- 12 minutes read
A travel trailer with a built-in generator is a great way to bring the comforts of home with you when you answer the call of the open road.
Especially if your ideal RV adventure style calls for a lot of boondocking away from RV parks and campgrounds.
While solar panels and other green energy systems are handy, they are rarely capable of keeping up with a family’s energy demands.
Purchasing a travel trailer that is prepped for a generator is nice, but it is still an additional expense, and it can also leave you wondering if the generator is truly compatible with the travel trailer or if it has the ability to meet your electrical needs.
If you want to have power at your fingertips when you need it, no matter where you are, then you are probably wondering what are the best travel trailers with a built-in generator?
We started by looking at the Forest River XLR Boost and the Northwoods Arctic Fox 22G. Both are two great camper trailers with a generator on today’s market.
Though they certainly aren’t the only generator-equipped travel trailers worth investing in.
To find the best model to meet any off-the-grid camping needs, we decided to broaden our search.
This included reviewing models that appealed to small families, large families and traveling couples who want to unplug from the grid, but still, be able to turn the lights on.
Do Travel Trailers Come With Built-In Generators?
A lot of travel trailers come prepared to connect to a generator of some kind, but only a select number of models come with one built-in.
There are also some RV dealerships that might offer to install a generator as an optional upgrade.
How Big Of A Generator Does My Travel Trailer Need?
If all you want to do is power some basic electric appliances in your travel trailer and a handful of personal electronics, a generator rated to produce between 2,000 to 3,000 watts will be sufficient.
If you want to run a lot of lights, a large TV, you love to microwave a lot of meals, or you need to run the rooftop air conditioner a lot, then you might want to prioritize a larger generator.
Especially if you like to boondock off the grid for multiple days at a time.
Do I Need An Inverter To Power My Travel Trailer With A Generator?
An inverter essentially converts the DC power created by a generator into the AC electricity that most RV lights and appliances run on.
A lot of the best travel trailers with a generator built-in come with an inverter included in the unit.
Many can be set up to work in tandem with the generator to throttle it up when electric demand increases, and throttle it back down again.
Pros & Cons Of A Travel Trailer With A Built-In Generator?
There are a few benefits and drawbacks to consider before investing in a travel trailer with a built-in generator.
Built-In Generator Pros
- Wattage Capacity – A lot of built-in generators have high wattage demand, which can seamlessly run your RV lights and appliances without strain.
- Running RV Air Conditioner – If you frequently camp in hot humid conditions, a travel trailer with a built-in generator will let you run most rooftop air conditioners for hours on end without tapping into and draining the RV’s house batteries.
- Operating On The Move – A travel trailer with a built-in generator is usually engineered to vent and exhaust out of the trailer according to safety specs. This lets you drive down the road with it running, which can be handy if you need to power a traditional refrigerator with a compressor, or you need to charge your RV house batteries to full charge before reaching your next destination.
- Easy Operation – With aftermarket generators you often need to use a cumbersome pull-start and you have to provide it with a fair amount of maintenance. Most built-in generators are engineered to be easy to use and typically start with just the press of a button.
Built-In Generator Cons
- Higher Repair & Maintenance Costs – Since they are built into the travel trailer and securely mounted in place, most built-in RV generators are hard to access. This ultimately adds to the labor time and cost when they do need to be repaired, adjusted, or routine maintenance.
- Limited To RV Use – When you buy an aftermarket generator, you can pull it out of the RV when you get home and connect it to your home in case of a power outage.
- Potential For Noise – Even a four-stroke generator will still be heard inside the RV itself when it’s built-in. Whereas an aftermarket RV generator can potentially be moved away from the RV, or positioned behind some sort of sound block to give you quiet operation when sleeping.
4 Of The Best Travel Trailers With A Built-In Generator
There are a lot of travel trailers that come with generator prep, but you have to purchase an aftermarket generator or you pay the dealership markup to have one installed.
Instead, we tried to focus on some of the best travel trailers and toy hauler travel trailers that come with a generator installed in the standard package.
Along the way, we tried to pick out high-quality models of different sizes to meet the needs of families large and small.
Here are 4 of the best camper trailers that come with a with built-in generator.
- The Northwoods Manufacturing Nash 17K
- Forest River XLR Boost
- Northwoods Arctic Fox 22G
- Forest River XLR Hyperlite 2513 Toy Hauler Travel Trailer
1. The Northwoods Manufacturing Nash 17K
- 2.5 Onan LP Generator
- Dry weight of 4,177 lbs.
- Payload capacity of 2,634 lbs.
- Hitch weight of 589 lbs.
- GVWR of 7,400 lbs.
- Fresh water tank capacity of 50 gallons
- Gray water tank capacity of 35 gallons
- Black water tank capacity of 36 gallons
- 11,000 BTU air conditioner
The Northwoods Nash 17K is one of the smaller floorplans in their lineup, yet it is still big on power with a 2.5 Onan LP Generator installed.
It offers a robust 3600 Watts at 2500 RPMs, which is sufficient for powering the 11,000 BTU air conditioner.
One of the great things about the generator is the fact that it was also designed to run quietly.
To that point, it only produces 68 dB at half load it also has a fully enclosed muffler.
While you might still hear it a little bit while you are inside the travel trailer, it’s not overly loud to the point where it will make it hard to sleep.
Especially if you are the type of family that likes to sleep with a fan on for a little background white noise.
2. The Forest River XLR Boost
- 5,500 Watt Yamaha Generator
- Dry weight of 5078 lbs.
- Payload capacity of 2,772 lbs.
- Hitch weight of 850 lbs.
- Fresh water tank capacity of 46 gallons
- Gray water tank capacity of 38 gallons
- Black water tank capacity of 38 gallons
There are several floorplans of the Forest River XLR boost. Some come equipped with a 4.0 Generator Powered by Yamaha.
Though it’s arguably better to take the affordable optional upgrade to the 5,500 watts 5.5 Generator Powered by Yamaha.
This travel trailer is also a convenient toy hauler. This means you can take your ATV, UTV, or dirt bikes with you in the rear cargo bay, while still having enough fuel in reserve to run the generator.
There is also the entire cargo bay, the bathroom, and a buffer wall separating the queen bed master suite in the front from the modest amount of noise the generator produces while it’s running.
3. The Northwoods Arctic Fox 22G
- Dry weight of 4,936 lbs.
- Payload capacity of 1,965 lbs.
- Hitch weight of 599 lbs.
- GVWR of 7,500 lbs.
- Gray water tank capacity of 42 gallons
- Black water tank capacity of 35 gallons
- 11,000 BTU air conditioner (Recommended Optional Extra)
Here again, Northwoods manufacturing proves that they know a thing or two about pairing a high-quality generator with a go-anywhere travel trailer with the Northwoods Arctic Fox 22G.
It comes with a 2.5 Onan LP Generator that generates up to 2,500 watts at maximum output. This is generally enough to run the optional 11K power-saving air conditioner.
One of the great things about this small generator is that it’s also very quiet. You can run it easily with very little background noise.
It always has a strong reputation for being reliable, which gives you some added peace of mind that it’s not going to be a money pit to repair if you need to use it frequently.
If you have high energy demands, or your primary dry camp for days of off the grid boondocking Northwoods does also offer an optional upgrade to the 3.5 Onan generator.
4. The Forest River XLR Hyperlite 2513 Toy Hauler Travel Trailer
- 5.5 Generator powered by Yamaha
- Dry weight of 8,118 lbs.
- Payload capacity of 3,532 lbs.
- Hitch weight of 1,450 lbs.
- Fresh water tank capacity of 102 gallons
- Gray water tank capacity of 60 gallons
- Black water tank capacity of 30 gallons
The Forest River XLR Hyperlite 2513 was once awarded the prestigious award for being the best “Travel Trailer Toy Hauler of the Year.”
This is due in part to the large cargo bay in the rear as well as a robust generator that can power all the high-demand electrical needs of this toy hauler travel trailer.
It comes with the 5.5 Generator powered by Yamaha generator as standard.
This gives you a maximum wattage output of up to 5,500-watts, which is what you need for all the appliances and things like electric motors that transform the rear cargo batch from a “Garage” into a lounge or a second bedroom.
When you also take into account the large fresh and wastewater storage tanks and the quiet, reliable Yamaha generator, the Forest River XLR Hyperlite 2513 might just be the best model on this list for long trips with multiple days of living off the grid.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are built-in generators more common on toy hauler travel trailers.
You typically see more built-in generators on toy hauler travel trailers than you do on standard travel trailers.
This is even more likely to be the case if the toy hauler has an auxiliary fuel tank that lets you refuel dirt bikes, and ATVs, as well as the generator, powering the interior of the travel trailer itself.
Are Built-In Generators Loud?
Built-in generators with an enclosed muffler are quieter than you might expect.
Though since they are directly installed into the frame of the travel trailer you can’t move them away.
Selecting a model that has buffer walls and an enclosed muffler can reduce the noise to being little more than what you would get from the air conditioner fan running, which is generally not loud enough to cause a problem sleeping.
While built-in generators are relatively rare in the travel trailer niche, there are nonetheless a few models that come with them.
It takes a lot of the guesswork out of having to worry about things like compatibility or having to eat the extra markup cost of having an RV dealership install one for you.
The travel trailer to best meet your needs will depend a lot on your preferred travel style.
If you are the type of person who loves to travel with their ATV, for long days of exploring the surrounding area without being plugged into an RV park’s resources, then the Forest River XLR Hyperlite 2513 Toy Hauler Travel Trailer might be the best for you.
It comes with a robust generator that can put out up to 5,500 watts, as well as large water storage tanks to keep you living off the grid for multiple days at a stretch.
If you are looking for a light compact travel trailer that’s quiet and easy to tow behind a standard half-ton pickup truck then the Northwoods Manufacturing Nash 17K might be the best travel trailer with a generator to meet your needs.
It is nimble, relatively light, and still has large enough water storage tanks to let you camp in remote areas with all the power and water you need for days at a stretch.

Each floor plan also has the option to add an Onan 5,500 Marquis Gold generator so campers can enjoy all the comforts of home even when they’re roughing it outdoors. Although considering how much we love our Onan generator, I would hardly consider boondocking to be roughing it. It’s basically like having a house on wheels if you ask me.

So if you’re looking for the perfect camper with generators to take your camping up a notch, the Jayco North Point Fifth Wheels are it.
Pros of Campers Generators in 2023
Having campers with generators built in is beneficial for many reasons. For starters, the generator is already built into the camper and ready to go. No need for set up or take down before or after your trip. And, you’ll never forget it! You also won’t have to worry about someone stealing your onboard generator like you would with a portable generator.
Plus, having an onboard generator can often be more powerful than a stand-alone unit. Most of them are powerful enough to run the air conditioning, which is a huge plus. Some campers even allow you to run the generator while driving. This is especially helpful for running your fridge (if needed) or keeping your rig cool in warm climates. Joel and I have had several cross country trips in our Class A motorhome. We have run the generator to keep the RV cold during travel. Without it we were absolutely melting. On top of that, campers with generators are often incredibly easy to operate. All in all, campers with generators that are built in are a great way to make life on the road a little bit easier! Joel and I have an onbaord Onan 5500 Marquis Gold generator in our Class A motorhome. Our rig is a lot bigger than some campers with generators which is why we need the extra power. But the convenience of being able to go anywhere we want to regardless of having hookups is fantastic. Just check out this amazing spot we were able to boondock at recently. Although we also have solar panels on our RV, it was pretty cloudy when we were at this spot. Without a generator we would have had to pack up shop and miss out on these stunning views.
Cons of Campers with Generators Built-In
Campers with generators come at an added cost. Not only does it increase the initial price of the RV, but maintenance can also be more expensive. This is especially true if you don’t know how to take care of it yourself. You may have to take your whole RV to the shop or have an RV tech come to your campsite if something stops working.
Like any generator, onboard generators need oil changes and other maintenance to work properly. Another drawback is that you can’t use it for anything besides RVing since it is built in. So if you ever wanted to use your generator for something else, this isn’t the way to go.
Lastly, campers with generators can be quite loud — but stand-alone units can be too. One major draw of a portable generator is that you can move it further away from the RV or position it somewhere the noise will be less bothersome. Another thing to consider is not having too big of a generator. Joel and I use our built-in generator when we are camping in the summer. However, when we don’t need to run the AC units, we usually use a much smaller portable generator . That’s because the larger the generator the louder it is and the more gas it uses.
Frequently Asked Questions About Campers with Generators
Using a camper with a generator is a great way to enjoy the RV lifestyle while on the go. But, like any RV system, generators need to be used with care and caution. In the next section, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about RV generators and how to safely use them. From how altitude impacts generator functioning to understanding how long you can run a generator. If you have any questions about campers with generators – this is the place to find the answers! So let’s get started!
How Long Can I Run My Camper Generator?
The answer to the question, “How long can I run my camper generator?” depends on your camper, power use, and your generator. Generally, you should be able to run a generator for around 6 to 16 hours at a time . Some camper generators can even run for up to 24 hours or longer if properly maintained. As long as you keep refilling the generator so you don’t run out of fuel, you can continue to run it.
However, there are a few things you should keep in mind before running your camper generator for an extended period. Make sure that the engine is properly tuned and maintained so it runs efficiently, as well as having enough oil and fuel to last the duration of use. Additionally, the generator should be in a well-ventilated area so that it doesn’t overheat. Make sure you never run it close to obstructions. Once when we were running our generator at my in-laws driveway our carbon monixide detector went off. Turns out it was because of where our RV was positioned. So also, if you don’t have a carbon monixide, I absolutely recommend it. It could save your life!
By taking these precautions and understanding your camper’s model and specs, you can get a better idea of how long you can expect to run your camper generator. With the right camper generator, you can enjoy hours of uninterrupted power and energy wherever your camper takes you!
What to Do If RV Generator Won’t Start?
If your portable or onboard RV generator won’t start, the first step is to check the fuel filter. A clogged or dirty RV generator fuel filter can prevent it from running. Make sure that you replace the fuel filter regularly to prevent it from becoming clogged or dirty.
Another common cause of the RV generator not starting is a bad spark plug (or glow plug if you have a diesel generator). RV generators use spark plugs to ignite the fuel and keep the RV generator running. So, if the spark plug is worn or damaged, it won’t be able to ignite the fuel properly. Check your RV generator’s spark plug regularly and replace it when necessary.
If these two issues are not the cause, it could be a problem with RV generator’s carburetor if you have a gasoline-powered portable generator. Check the RV generator’s carburetor for dirt or debris and clean it out if needed. If cleaning doesn’t solve the issue, you may need to replace the carburetor entirely.
If all else fails and the RV generator won’t start, it could be an electrical issue. Check the wiring for damage and make sure that all the wires are securely connected. If everything looks alright, then you may need to take your RV generator to a professional mechanic for servicing.
No matter the RV generator problem, always take safety precautions and never attempt repairs without proper knowledge or experience. If you’re not comfortable working on the RV generator yourself, the best option is to consult a professional RV mechanic for help.
Do I Need to Open The Generator Compartment Door During Use?
It depends on the RV generator you’re using. Most RV generators will run just fine with the compartment door closed. Joel and I have never had an issue running ours with the compartment closed. However it’s always a good idea to check your owner’s manual for specific instructions. If the manual specifies that the compartment door should be open during use, then follow those guidelines. This will ensure optimal performance and safety.
It may also be worth mentioning that you should always use RV generators outdoors to ensure proper ventilation. Additionally, it’s important to keep the RV generator compartment clean and free of any material that may block the flow of air or cause a fire hazard. If your onboard generator seems to overheat, open the compartment door for good measure.
How Do I Start a Built-In Generator?
Starting your built-in RV generator is surprisingly easy! All you need to do is follow a few simple steps.
1. If you have a camper with a generator built in, you might need to prime it first. Do this by pressing the “prime” switch. One some models you may instead hold down on the stop button for a few seconds.
2. Locate the built-in RV generator start switch and hold it down for a few seconds. When you hear the generator kick on you can release the switch.
3. Wait a few minutes to run appliances. Joel and I always wait to run anything until we hear the “beep” of the microwave turning on. After that, we know our power is up and running and we are good to go.
Does a Generator Charge the RV Batteries?
Yes, RV generators can charge RV batteries. Generators typically require a transfer switch to activate the RV’s electric system and link it to the generator. When running, the generator can then supply power to not just appliances and lights in the RV but also its battery charging circuits. This allows the genrator to charge RV batteries.
There are also many things you can run on your 12-volt system even without a generator. For example, you can typically use the lights and water pump. Some RVs also have built-in USB charging ports so you can charge your phone without having to turn on the RV generator.
Many RV fridges can also run off propane rather than electricity. This comes in handy for making overnight stops. If all you are doing is stopping to sleep, chances are you don’t need a lot of power. Flipping your fridge to run on propane can keep your food cold without having to run a generator all night long. Not only is this more efficient, but it is also nicer for you and everyone around you. Typically, running a generator all night at an overnight parking lot is considered poor etiquette.
Are Built-in Generators Loud?
Campers with generators built in can be loud, but in my experience aren’t much louder than similarly sized standalone generators. However, for a truly peaceful off-grid camping trip, solar is the only option. There are lots of ways to get started with solar power , many of which are much easier than they were in the past.
Are Generators More Common in Toy Haulers?
Generators are actually most common in motorhomes. That’s because motorhomes are often considered one of the most luxurious kinds of RVs . However, toy haulers often appeal to the crowd that likes to get out and explore the backcountry trails on their toys. So it is unsurprising that many toy haulers include a generator or are at least prepped for a generator.
Do All Campers Have Generators?
No. Not all campers have generators. That’s why if you are looking specifically for campers with generators you need to do your research beforehand. If you aren’t sure if the camper you are interested in has a generator, just ask the dealer or the seller. They should be able to tell you and also show you how to operate the onboard generator. But even if your preferred camper doesn’t have a generator, remember, using a portable RV generator is easy.
Why Do Travel Trailers Not Have Generators?
Travel trailers, campers, and other recreational vehicles are a great way to explore the outdoors while still keeping all of your amenities. However, not all campers come with generators. If you’re looking for a camper that comes equipped with a generator, you may have to look at different manufacturers or models. The ones I covered above are a fantastic place to start.
Generators can be very useful for powering lights, kitchen appliances, and even air conditioners. However, they are not a necessity in all campers and can add extra weight and cost. That’s because most people camp primarily at RV parks or campgrounds with hookups. When hookups are available, they provide a quieter source of power than generators. Shore power can also support higher electrical loads such as running multiple air conditioners.
How Much Do RV Generators Cost in 2023?
If you’re wondering how much RV generators cost in 2023, the answer varies. There are many factors and types of generators for campers. Depending on how much power you need and what type of generator you choose, you could pay anywhere from several hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars.
Campers with generators onboard will typically have a higher purchase price to account for the generator. However, if you need to replace your onboard generator, expect to pay a lot. The cost of the unit alone for this Cummins Onan 3,600-watt onboard generator costs over $5,000 in 2023 . Not to mention the cost of installation since you’ll like need to pay a professional to set it up. If your onboard generator goes out, you might be better off buying a portable generator since you can get the same amount of power for a much lower price tag. No installation needed.
So are Campers with Generators in 2023 Worth It?
Campers with generators in 2023 are absolutely worth it for some RVers. If you want to enjoy boondocking in your RV , then having either an onboard generator or a portable generator is absolutely worth it. Just check out this photo of another place Joel and I boondocked this fall if you don’t believe me. We were right outside Moab camping for free with only a few other people around. This would never have been possible without our generator (and solar panels ).
Campers with generators provide a convenient way to stay powered no matter where you may roam. . Knowing which camper and generator is best suited for your individual needs will help ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable trip each time you take off in your rig. Soon you’ll be able to stay in some of the most beautiful places imaginable.

Everything You Need to Know About Jayco RVs
Drive through almost any campground in the United States, and you’re as likely to flip a coin heads as you are to see a Jayco RV parked in one of the campsites.
Jayco is a mainstay of the RV community. They’re recognized for providing quality RVs across the budget spectrum, with affordable stick-and-tin travel trailers on one side and high-tech, luxury fifth wheels and motorhomes on the other. Jaycos are a mainstay outside of the RV community, too, as passersby, tent campers, and neighbors recognize the swooped-wing bluejay logo everywhere Jaycos roam.
What’s led to their continued popularity? The answer is multifaceted, but much can be attributed to their early adoption of three key elements that founder Lloyd Bontrager valued and prioritized and that remain evident in their design, manufacturing processes, implementation, and customer support today: quality, innovation, and service. Each is apparent in Jayco’s products and the support offered to their customers, from groundbreaking RV technology to education to user-friendly RVs, to one of the most trusted warranty protections available to RVers.
Jayco at a Glance
Founded in 1968, Jayco has received significant recognition for its line of travel trailers, particularly the Jay Flight line, which has remained a bestseller in its category since 2005, while their luxury and intro-level fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes also compete at top levels, are well-respected in the industry, and are a favorite among RVers.
Jayco RVs boast fewer service needs in the first year of ownership than competitors, and the company has garnered praise for incorporating new user-friendly technology into its systems, including navigation, ride and handling, amenities, and more. Jayco customer support is also a testament to their wholistic approach to RV manufacturer and customer service.
Ever the innovators, Jayco recently announced the piloting of a new GPS-connected RV system to provide users with personalized travel recommendations, trip inspiration, and other how-to information based on their RV model – the latest example of their tech innovation forwardness.

Dubbed “four-season engineering,” Jayco employs a double layer of front cap fiberglass insulation, fully enclosed heated underbelly, double-sided flex foil insulation, tinted windows, and durable PEX plumbing. Climate Shield is available on select units, including Eagle products, North Point, Pinnacle luxury fifth wheels, and Seismic toy haulers.

Magnum Truss™ Roofing System
A patented Jayco design, the Magnum Truss™ roofing system fortifies their roofs to be able to support additional weight than some competitors. This design relies on stronger components and fasteners, using wood studs over aluminum supports, screws over staples, and larger nailplates in more locations.
- Larger header beam, similar to home construction, between roof and slide-out openings
- Thick 2” x 2” wood studs instead of aluminum improve load-bearing and reduce electrical shorts.
- Screws are used instead of staples to fasten the ⅜” decking at the seams.
All incorporated, Jayco claims their roofs can sustain up to 50% more weight than competitor roofs.
Each Jayco-specific feature is a part of what Jacyo calls “The Jayco Difference.” Other technology, construction, and features include the Stronghold VBL™ laminated walls, overlander packages, custom frames, and more. Learn more about the Jayco Difference here .
Who Makes Jayco Campers?
Jayco was founded over 55 years ago by Lloyd and Bertha Bontrager on a farm in Middlebury, Indiana, in 1968. Their initial design and production facilities comprised two converted chicken houses and a barn. Lloyd had previously worked for an RV manufacturer and started the business believing he could make a better travel trailer. They specialized early on in fold-down trailers. Two partners joined Lloyd in the new venture. Bertha managed the bookkeeping, and their sons helped with design and production.
The company saw quick success in the late 60s and early 70s. y the end of 1973, they supplied a network of 235 dealerships in Canada and the United States. By 1987, they were the fourth largest towable manufacturer in the United States, and by 1995 the second largest.
Even early in the company’s tenure, its management philosophy prioritized innovation, quality, and service – three tenets you see embraced and recognized in the company and its products today. From the JayWren in the 1970s – the first non-fold-down camper trailer – to such innovations as the JRide® ride and handling package and the JAYCOMMAND™ control system, the company puts an emphasis on new technology, concepts, and construction to better serve their customers.
In July 2016, Jayco became a subsidiary of Thor Industries in an acquisition that benefited both companies, allowing Jayco to reach a wider audience. While Jayco became a wholly owned subsidiary, its original senior management continued to lead the business. Jayco maintains its family of brands, including Entegra Coach , Highland Ridge RV , and Starcraft RV .
Jayco Camping World Dealerships
In 2023, Camping World and Jayco launched their first manufacturer-exclusive dealerships in Morgan Hill, California and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. These openings mark the first of their kind, a new format where the dealership will exclusively represent, sell, service, and showcase Jayco’s RVs and products.

Jayco Customer Support
Service is one of Jayco’s original three tenets, and they have built a reputation for producing quality RVs at every level, from lightweight travel trailers to luxury motorhomes. Jayco RVs see fewer service shop visits each year, and they boast one of the best warranties in the industry, doubling the length and increasing the coverage of their competitors.
2+3 Jayco Warranty
Jayco is known for offering one of the most comprehensive warranty packages available for its travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, and motorhomes. Known as the 2+3 warranty, it provides two years of limited warranty and three years of structural warranty for towables. For motorhomes, the 2+3 provides two years or 24,000 miles of limited warranty, whichever comes first, and three years of structural warranty.
On top of that, Jayco boasts additional warranties from their supplier-partners, some of which include:
- MORryde® rubber pin box assembly
- Onan® generator
- Winegard® Rayzar® & Roadstar antenna parts
- Dexter® axles
- Samsung® refrigerator
- Intervac™ central vacuum
- Goodyear® Endurance® tires
- Shaw® vinyl flooring
- Dicor roofing material
- Huber industrial floor decking
- Tredit™ aluminum wheels
See the full list here and breakdown here.
There’s a good reason why the Bluejay logo is a mainstay in campgrounds across the US. Jayco continues to deliver quality RVs yearly while making important technological, construction, and quality advances. And with such programs as the 2+3 warranty, they seem to be vested in the customer’s long-term benefit, and that earns high marks in our books.

You remove the plywood. Genset sets on the framing and the holes are there. Plywood is a major fire hazard, do not try to use it. Everything on the Onan is from the bottom. The air intake for the carb, the air intakes for the engine and generator cooling, oil filter, oil drain, and the hot air from the cooling. You do not want any of that blocked.

Posts: 516. I have both the Champion 2000 & 3100 watt invertor generators. The 2000 is quiet and adequate to recharge the battery and small appliances. It doesn't run the AC or microwave where my 3100 will. Just paid $799.00 for the 3100 and so far I am happy with it. It is 1/3 the cost of the Honda and lighter.
The CrossRoads Redwood campers with generators are the ultimate luxury campers! They come with eight different floor plans ranging from 36.5 feet to 45 feet. It looks like a lot of customers still decide to go this route even with the prep package due to the cost of this size generator along with the added weight it puts on the camper. The etrailer.com 6,000-Watt Portable Inverter Generators # 333-0003-2-0007 that you referenced is a great set but they are gas only units.
A generator for your travel trailer should have 3000W to 40000W. It should have enough wattage to run your AC unit, which is usually around 2000-3000W; add an additional 600 to 1000 watts to that number, and you have 3000-4000W total needed for your travel trailer generator.
3. Hitch Carrier Mount. The next travel trailer mount option we'll be looking at is a hitch carrier. If you want to attach your generator to the bumper directly, this is the easiest method of doing so. This method involves mounting a large platform to the rear square bumper that is on the back of the trailer.
Dealer charged me $6000 for the generator, installed. When we ordered the camper in the fall after the Hershey RV show, the dealer didn't even know what the Gen Prep option entailed, but luckily Jayco had reps on site to explain it to the dealer. It is important to note, the generator prep package does not include auto-start.

Posts: 885. You should be fine with a generator of at least 3000watts or more. Definitely look for an inverter generator. They are more expensive but run much quieter than a construction grade generator. The only time you may run into an issue is trying to use a few high draw devices at the same time.
