Quick Facts About USA (United States of America)

Best time to visit usa.

If you’re keen on experiencing the wonder of this amazing country, consider taking a US tour around the spring season, i.e., sometime between the end of March and late May. It is the  best time to visit the USA since the climate is cooler. Besides, autumn (the one month from the end of September to October end) works equally well to take a trip to the United States.

Spring in the USA

Summer in the usa, autumn in the usa, winter in usa.

During the Spring season in the USA, the temperature remains between 2 and 24 degrees Celcius. The season starts in March and lasts till May. The weather is refreshing and you can witness several festivities.

You will find the temperature fluctuating between 18 and 31 degrees Celcius during the summer season in the USA. If you are planning your USA holidays during the summer season, do not forget to carry sunscreen. The summer months last from June to August.

This is another season in the USA when the country witnesses many tourists from different corners of the world. The temperature remains between 4 and 26 degrees Celcius. The months of Autumn in the USA are September to November. The weather is usually pleasant during these months but you may feel chilly sometimes.

The winter season in the USA starts in December and ends in February. While the highest temperature remains around 22 degrees Celcius, the lowest can be as low as -5 degrees Celcius. If you are visiting the country during winter, you must keep yourself safe from the biting cold.

How to reach the USA?

  • By Sea

The country is very well connected by air to India and the rest of the world, with several daily flights operating to major cities in the US such as Chicago, Boston, New York, and San Francisco. Note that there is currently no direct flight from India to America and therefore you’d be required to book a connecting flight if you book USA tour packages from India. Your tour planner will help you make the required arrangements.

Note: The distance between India and America by air is approx. 13,595 km.

Though a lesser-used mode of transport to reach the USA, sea travel does find preference among travelers looking for luxury and class. Most tourists from European countries travel on private boats to the American cities of Florida and Los Angeles (LA). After their sea travel to the US, these tourists can opt for trains or cabs to reach any other part of America.

Note: The distance between India and USA by sea is roughly around 9036 nautical miles.

Visa Process Information of the USA

The US allows foreign visitors to enter the country for travel purposes on a B2 Visa. It is also known as a Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa. This visa is issued by the US Embassy or Consulate in India and is generally granted for tourism purposes only, which also includes a visit to the country for medical reasons. Note that tourist visas to the US cannot be used for reasons other than travel, such as study, work/job, or business. Separate  US visa  are available for each of these categories (check with the Consulate).

To apply for a tourist visa to America, you are required to produce a valid Indian passport along with a duly-filled application form. Upon payment of the required fee for visa processing, you’d be called for an interview at the nearest US Consulate. Note that your tourist visa grant is subject to approval by the concerned Consulate.

USA Visa for Indians

The US government mandates all Indians, among other foreigners, to apply for a valid visa before entering the country. Indians can apply for a US visa either for travel purposes or for job/business reasons too.

How to Apply for a Tourist Visa for the USA from India?

All tourists from India traveling to the USA need to first obtain a valid tourist or visitor visa. Note that the visa application process must be completed before your date of travel to the US since the American government does not grant tourist visas to Indians upon arrival in the country.

Here’s how you can apply for a visitor visa to the USA:

  • Step 1: The simplest way to apply for an Indian tourist visa to the US is by applying for an e-visa from the comfort of your home. All you need to do is download the Visa Electronic Application Form (DS-160) from the US Consulate website and fill it out carefully.
  • Step 2: Upon completion of the e-application, you’d be required to pay a fee for the visa application process. You can choose to pay for this online as well.
  • Step 3: Choose a comfortable day and time for your visitor visa application interview at the nearest US Embassy.
  • Step 4 : On the chosen date and time, go to the designated US Embassy with all your valid travel documents (original) as asked by the Consulate.

Top 5 airlines flying to the United States

Food is really bad, not to the Emirates standards. Coming out of Houston airport is very confusing,

Service needs to improve. Air hostess do not register flyers request and we need to keep on repeating our request to them on multiple occasions

The flight was great. We had to purchase extra long seats for the long flight. But overall it was great.

The experience was not as pleasant returning as leaving. Went through clearance twice, crew was not as customer focused.

WORST AIRLINE EVER—FOOD WAS MEDIOCRE AND WIDEBODY 777 BOEING WAS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE! IT WAS NOT WORTH THE MONEY THAT I PAID.

Amazing service and food. However I didn’t get chance to choose my own seat which bothered me a little.

More space all around is practically essential on long international fights, and Emirates definitely delivers. But food selection and taste was only average. Otherwise, the flight was smooth and the cabin crew service was fine.

Food was not eadable. Testless and not apealing. order for indian vegitarian, recived spice less. combination of main course and side iteams are far away from traditonal food, serve less iteams. , but eadoble. Thanks

I bought Business class ticket but they treated me like economic class. No lounge allowed at check inn I have to take stuff out while other passengers have more than 25 lb in bag. Because I bought tickets from other than airlines . It’s discriminations from airlines to passengers.

Quality and tasty Food and service, bigger seat comfort and leg room, etc.

Just happy I flew Qatar Airways awesome no wonder they are #1 in the world right now! The food was just delicious, very courteous, professional crew.

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

It was a really long flight from Doha to Philadelphia and it was overall a good one. The one area that I would comment on is that there is a lot of single-use plastic and disposables in the meal service for American Airlines. It would be great to see more circular options in the meal service to reduce the amount of waste.

Suddenly Flight has been change by Qatar and there’s no information is there of us from Bom to Doha and counter person is behaving like Qatar owner next I will not buy Qatar and I will not suggest anyone to fly in Qatar

The crew was fantastic and the over flight was perfect as well.

They shld provide food. Between food they are giving 10 hours gap which is toooo much

The crew was great and the food and liquor offerings were good. Seats were a bit cramped. Flight arrived early at destination. That's a plus.

All over with Qatar airlines my experience was really bad due to delays and then putting me on different airlines and after 8 hours of wait I had to listen to their is no plane to fly for another 24 hours. Wore experience ever.

I had already opted for Vegan food before 2 months yet they say we have no record for it,

Too many boarding protocols. Never experienced with other international flights.

My concern is with Flight: 441 IAH-FRA I was very cramped in my seat and the person in front of me was reclined. I pulled my wallet out of my purse and when finished I did my best to cram it back into my purse. Our flight was very delayed and we were rebooked twice and lots of airport time. As I got off the flight I noticed that I had dropped my wallet( containing all my credit & debit bank cards + 240 US dollars & 240 Euros. I spoke to customer service & Lost &Found. I was denied access to look on the plane. Therefore I have been without money and given no help. Paula Bjork 503.545.6698

So far so good. I missed my flight because of the Lufthansa diversion. United helped me to figure out how to get accommodations from Lufthansa for my long layover. They help me book appropriate onward flight.

During the flight there was a medical emergency. We were diverted. Of course I'm thankful they cared for the health of that passenger, but they did a poor job of communicating with the rest of us passengers. In the end we arrived at our destination several hours late, with no direction of how to rebook missed connecting flights. It all worked out in the end. Those of us that needed accommodations were put up in a hotel by Lufthansa until we could make it to our final destination. But it was United Airlines Personnel who really helped us navigate the process.

Always a pleasure to deal with United's helpful and knowledgeable staff

Always a pleasure to deal with United's helpful and knowledgeable saff

This flight is always a cramped bus. The gate area was inadequate and announcements were hard to hear. The flight was delayed 45 minutes to an hour by a broken aircraft door, making our total delay from Vilnius 5 hours.

Our flight to Chicago O'Hare was delayed an hour, causing us to miss our connection to MSP and spend an extra 3 hours at O'Hare so we could board a plane with a damaged door and wait another 45 minutes or so. The crew was great, the food decent, The drinks were great: 2 glasses of a nice South African Shiraz, an ice cold can of Beck's Beer, and Dewar's White Label on the rocks.

A350 has great entertainment. Make sure to watch the plane's external tail and nose camera's on landing and take off. Seats were a little hard for a 10 hour flight. I am gluten intolerant, they had good alternative meals for me on the flight.

I wrote about this leg of my itinerary in a previous part of this review

Boarding was horrible. We were packed into a bus with few seats and made to stand for 10 to 15 minutes, then driven for 5 minutes on wild curves. Complementary food and drink was a tiny chocolate and a bottle of water. Seating was cramped. Aircraft had no video.

Both mine and my husband's chairs were broken. Also it took 2 hours to get our bags after our flight which was wild.

perhaps eye contact with the cabin crew, instead of abruptness and an impatience to serve.

Not enough trash pickups throughout the flight. Everything else was great.

Overall good, the gluten free food is very hit/miss though and you must tell them you have an allergy days in advance.

All was good. The headphones they supply are of poor quality. The food is good but too much dairy.

Seating space was crowded and I am a very small woman.

The crew on this flight were excellent. They were friendly and attentive. It really made the flight more enjoyable.

I sat in the last row of seats. On an 8 hour flight they allowed folks to stand and talk and drink in the back area near the toilets the whole time. They were at times loud and in the way. It was a little annoying. The crew on this trip were pretty mediocre and the plane was littered with trash when we disembarked.

Boarding process needs to be improved. Business class passengers were told to stand in the economy line and vice versa.

I travelled on biz class and f there is no water in the toilette to wash my hands I would expect to have this indicated somehow and not just finding out when I'm there expecting to be able to wash my hands and teeth. Also this is in general that it is always so rushy at the end of these kind of long flights. It is like we are sitting there for 9 hours and the last 1.5 hours just feels like I have time for nothing. Because food comes and at the same time we are close to destination everyone tries to pack their stuff and go to toilette and eat and everything :))) not that like I would know a good solution here I just wanted to raise this :)

Worst International flight I ever had in my whole life time. Boarding is the worst of all and flight experience was also not good. Screens were not working, seats were not comfortable and lot more.

Very very impressed with the proactive care and alertness with which ABHISHEK Chowdhary took care of us. Quietl, dignified , very alert, and meticulous. Very impressed. Also with SUNiL Kumar who was there for us in a very helpful way. SHERLY ALEX On Flight 119, BOM TO JFK CUSTOMER ON SEAT 21C, 21ST March 2024

If you are traveling to mumbai -- must try SFO - MUM direct flight. It's a game changer when you are traveling to India. Timings are well designed, optimal and makes the travel enjoyable.

Air India needs to launch new planes. Seats are worn out, most of the plane's TV screens wasn't working, USB charging ports wasn't working as well so I can charge my phone & watch my download movies, Food was mediocre, the plane smells. How can Air India put through their customers with this bad experience? This complaint needs to get escalated to the upper management. How shameful is the upper management to improve this plane? The flight is going back & forth from NEW YORK & DELHI. Two of the big cities in the world and this is how your experience is for sitting in a plane for 12+ hrs? Get your planes fixed ASAP Air India (TATA Management do your job right).

One of my worst experiences. Nothing was working in the flight. Entertainment system was broken, seat was very uncomfortable, crew did not offer water until food was provided, lights were not working, attendant call was not working. In short everything was broken and duct taped.

Old aircraft, crew were so so. Meals were mediocre. Flight to delhi was delayed. Lounge needs update and was mediocre too.

Bathrooms were horrible and no cleaning. Announced baggage claim carousel as one but came to a different one. People were waiting

Every thing was so old…. Can’t believe they are able to charge so much for this terrible level of service will use alternate company in future for all travel needs

The food on board the flight was atrocious - tasteless, spicy as hell, and simply a hodge podge of nonsensical items of poor quality.

The crew smile nicely when you board and exit, in between they are sullen and innattentive

An 8-Step Guide to Planning a Trip to USA from India

The United States, well-known for its big bustling cities, charming countryside, balmy beaches, marvelous museums, and innumerable natural wonders, is a dream destination for most travelers. Are you planning your first foreign trip to USA and looking for some guidance on how to plan your big vacation? Here’s a simple 8-step guide to planning a trip to USA from India.

Table of Contents

Step-1: Get a Tourist Visa

Step-2: Decide on your Itinerary & Budget

Step-3: Book Your Flight Tickets

Step-4: Reserve Hotels, etc.

Step-5: Plan Your Travel Itinerary

Step-6: Buy Travel Insurance

Step-7: Get a Forex Card

Step-8: Pack for your US Trip

Let’s get to each step in detail.

Step 1: Get a Tourist Visa

The US visa application process is a little complicated as compared to other countries. As part of the visa process, you would be required to attend an in-person interview, for which you need to schedule an appointment after applying for a visa. The visa process typically consists of filling out the Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-160) Form, booking the appointment, and visiting the US Consulate near your city for getting your biometrics registered and documents verified (passport, photographs, DS-160 form confirmation page, interview appointment letter, as well as other supporting documents). The final step of the visa process is the one-to-one interview at the US Embassy.

Since this is a time-consuming process, it is recommended that you apply for a US tourist visa (B-2 visa) well ahead of time.

Step 2: Decide on your Itinerary & Budget

While your visa process is in the works, you can work on your itinerary and travel budget. For this, you need to first decide on the length of your trip. Then, prepare a rough itinerary by jotting down the places you would like to visit in the USA. Now, break it down into days, i.e. allocate a number to each of your destinations. Do some research to find out the stay, food, and commute options at each destination so you can get an estimate of the per-day costs, based on which you can fix a rough travel budget for your trip to USA from India. You need to account the cost of the visa also in the budget. Once you apply, you will know how much you paid exactly.

Step 3: Book Flight Tickets

Once you are sure about the travel dates, then go ahead and look out for the best deals on flights to USA from India . In general, the best time to book flight tickets is between three months and three weeks before the departure date. The earlier you book, the better. You can rely on online flight booking agents such as Indian Eagle for booking your tickets. Apart from offering you some incredible flight deals, the company also provides 24/7 support to their customers.

Step 4: Reserve Accommodation and other Tickets

Booking hotel rooms, train tickets (if necessary), and other transportation tickets in advance can put you at ease during your trip to USA from India . Imagine arriving at a hotel after a tiring long-haul journey to the USA from India only to hear that it has already been fully booked! It can be disappointing and frustrating at the same time. Pre-booking is the solution! So, book your flight/ train tickets, hotel rooms before you reach your destination as they are subject to availability. Confirm all your bookings before the start of your journey.

Step 5: Get to the Day-Wise Part of Your Itinerary

The United States of America is huge, and the vast number of sightseeing and adventure opportunities it offers, can be intimidating for any first-time traveler. A freewheeling trip may not be an ideal choice for first-timers. At the same time, planning your itinerary for a trip to USA to the tee is also not a good idea as it may ruin the excitement. Just elaborate a little on your rough itinerary and list down all those experiences you would like to try at each place you visit. This further gives you clarity on the budget for a trip to USA from India. Your travel personality and style will play a key role here. A holiday in America might mean backpacking tours, road trips, and national park visits for some while for others, it might be experiencing a taste of life in big cities.

Step 6: Buy Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a must when you fly internationally. A lot of travelers tend to ignore it but travel insurance is something that you must not travel without. It has your back in cases of a medical emergency, trip cancellation, loss of personal belongings such as passport and baggage, or any other unfortunate happenings. Knowing that you will be covered in an emergency goes a long way in ensuring that you have a stress-free vacation. So, why take the risk? Get travel insurance immediately, if you don’t have one already.

Step 7: Get a Forex Card

Currency exchange is something that can overwhelm most first-time travelers. A forex card, which allows you to make payments or withdraw money from ATMs in foreign currency, is something that you can invest in when traveling abroad. It is also a safe option as compared to carrying liquid cash in large amounts. You can apply for a forex card at any RBI-authorized bank branch (or online) by filling out the prescribed form and submitting it along with self-attested copies of your PAN, passport, visa and air tickets.

Step-8: Finally, Pack for your US Trip

And then comes the last step of planning a trip to USA from India – packing. You are traveling to a country that is miles away from home and expect weather conditions to be the opposite of what you have been accustomed to here in India. So, pack carefully, depending on the season you are traveling in the US. Create an international packing checklist so that you don’t end up forgetting anything. Also, don’t overstuff your luggage with all the things you think you might need ‘just in case’. Be practical when packing and make sure the weight of your luggage is in line with the baggage policies of your airline.

You are now all set to go! Do you think we have missed out on anything? Leave your suggestions in the comments section below.

Planning a Trip to the USA from India

July 4, 2023

A map of the usa with a plane flying from india to the usa

Are you dreaming of visiting the USA from India? Planning an international trip can be overwhelming, but with the right information and preparation, your trip can be smooth and hassle-free. In this article, we will guide you through the necessary steps to make your USA trip a success.

Visa Requirements for Indians traveling to the USA

Best time of the year to visit the usa from india, choosing the perfect itinerary for your usa trip, budgeting for your usa trip: tips and tricks, top tourist attractions in the usa that every indian must visit, understanding the cultural differences between india and the usa, how to navigate transportation in the usa as an indian traveler, what to pack for a trip to the usa from india, staying connected during your trip to the usa: wifi, sim cards, and roaming charges, safety tips for indian travelers visiting the usa, exploring american cuisine: must-try dishes for indian foodies, shopping in the usa: best places and tips for indian tourists, how to handle currency exchange during your trip to the usa from india, cultural events and festivals in the usa: experiencing american culture as an indian traveler.

The United States requires visitors from India to have a valid visa to enter the country. The visa application process can be lengthy, so it’s important to start early. You will need to fill out the online non-immigrant visa application, schedule an appointment at the nearest US embassy or consulate, and pay the visa application fee.

During your appointment, you will be required to submit your biometric information, attend an interview, and bring supporting documentation such as your passport, itinerary, and financial and employment records. Make sure to thoroughly review the visa application requirements before starting the process to avoid any delays or issues.

It’s important to note that the type of visa you need will depend on the purpose of your visit. For example, if you are traveling for tourism or business, you will need a B-1/B-2 visa. However, if you are planning to study in the US, you will need an F-1 visa. It’s important to research and determine the correct visa type before starting the application process.

Additionally, it’s important to be aware of the potential for visa fraud. Be cautious of any individuals or companies offering to expedite the visa application process or guaranteeing a visa approval. These are often scams and can result in the denial of your visa application or even legal consequences. Stick to the official US government websites and processes to ensure a legitimate and successful visa application.

The USA has different seasons, with varying temperatures and weather conditions. The best time to visit depends on your interests and preferences. For instance, if you’re planning to visit cities like New York or Chicago, the best time to go is during the fall season from September to November. The weather is mild, and the autumn foliage is beautiful. If you’re planning a trip to the West Coast, visit during the summer months from June to August to enjoy the sunny weather.

However, keep in mind that prices and crowds might be higher during peak season. If you’re looking to save money, consider traveling during the shoulder seasons of spring and fall, when prices are lower, and crowds are smaller.

Another factor to consider when planning your trip to the USA is the events and festivals that take place throughout the year. For example, if you’re a music lover, you might want to plan your trip around the Coachella music festival in California, which takes place in April. Or, if you’re interested in sports, you might want to visit during the Super Bowl in February or the NBA Finals in June. Keep in mind that these events can also affect prices and crowds, so plan accordingly.

The USA is a vast country with many different regions and cities to choose from. It’s important to plan your itinerary carefully to make the most of your trip. Start by researching the different cities and attractions that interest you. Some popular destinations include New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.

Consider your budget, timeframe, and interests to create an itinerary that works for you. Don’t forget to factor in transportation time and costs when moving between different cities. Use a travel itinerary planner tool to help you organize and optimize your trip.

When planning your USA trip, it’s also important to research the different seasons and weather patterns in the regions you plan to visit. For example, if you’re planning a trip to the East Coast during the winter months, you’ll need to pack warm clothing and be prepared for potential snowstorms. On the other hand, if you’re visiting the West Coast during the summer, you’ll want to pack light and breathable clothing to stay cool in the hot weather.

Traveling to the USA can be expensive, but with careful planning and budgeting, you can save money and still have a great trip. Start by setting a budget for your trip and breaking down costs such as flights, accommodation, transportation, and food. Consider staying in budget-friendly accommodations such as hostels or Airbnb, and use public transportation to save on costs.

When it comes to food, try to eat at local restaurants or food trucks instead of expensive tourist spots. Cut costs on attractions by researching free things to do in each city such as museums, parks, and festivals. Finally, consider buying a city pass or attraction pass to enjoy discounts on multiple attractions.

The United States is a treasure trove of cultural and natural wonders. Some of the top attractions include the Grand Canyon, Times Square, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. Visit the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C. to learn about American history and culture, or explore the natural beauty of Yosemite National Park.

Don’t forget to indulge in some retail therapy in New York City’s iconic stores or visit Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles to see the stars on the Walk of Fame. Each city has its unique treasures, so research the must-visit spots in each location on your itinerary.

Traveling to the USA from India can be a cultural shock. It’s crucial to prepare in advance to avoid any misunderstandings. America is a diverse country, and cultural norms vary from region to region. Research cultural differences beforehand to understand the etiquette, customs, and traditions.

For example, in America, punctuality is highly valued in business and social settings. Tipping is customary in bars and restaurants, and public displays of affection are more common. Also, be aware that Americans often speak in a direct and assertive manner, which can come off as rude or inappropriate in some cultures.

The United States is a vast country, and transportation can be a challenge for international travelers. Public transportation options, such as trains, buses, and subways, vary from city to city. Renting a car is also an option, but be aware of driving laws and restrictions, such as right turns on red, which may be unfamiliar to Indian drivers.

Apps such as Uber and Lyft are popular and convenient options for getting around in cities. However, they can be more expensive than public transportation. Make sure to research transportation options and prices in each city and plan your routes in advance to avoid any confusion or delays.

Packing for an international trip can be overwhelming. It’s important to pack appropriately for the climate and the activities you have planned. For example, if you’re visiting the West Coast during the summer, pack light clothing and sunscreen. If you’re visiting New York in the winter, pack warm layers and a waterproof jacket.

Don’t forget the essentials like your passport and visa, travel documents, and a universal power adapter. Also, consider packing comfortable shoes as you might be doing a lot of walking and exploring.

Staying connected during your USA trip is important for communication and navigation. Most hotels and cafes offer free wifi, but if you need constant internet access, consider buying a SIM card from a local carrier or using an international roaming plan from your Indian carrier. However, keep in mind that international roaming can be expensive, so research your options beforehand.

While the United States is considered a safe country for tourists, it’s always important to be cautious and prepared. Keep your money and valuables in a secure location, and avoid carrying large sums of cash. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid poorly lit or unfamiliar areas at night.

In case of an emergency, save important contacts such as emergency services and your embassy’s contact information on your phone. Make sure to have travel insurance for medical emergencies and unexpected events.

One of the best ways to experience a country’s culture is through its food. The United States has a diverse culinary scene with dishes influenced by cultures from all over the world. Don’t miss classic American dishes such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and mac and cheese. Also, try regional specialties such as New York-style pizza, Southern fried chicken, and California sushi.

If you’re a fan of sweets, indulge in some American desserts, such as apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, and cheesecake. Vegetarians and vegans can find plenty of options as well, such as avocado toast, veggie burgers, and falafel wraps.

The United States is a shopper’s paradise, with options ranging from high-end stores to discount outlets. New York City’s Fifth Avenue is famous for its luxury stores, while Los Angeles’ Rodeo Drive is a favorite of celebrities. If you’re looking for bargains, head to outlet malls like Woodbury Common in New York or the Citadel Outlets in Los Angeles.

When shopping, keep in mind that sales tax is not included in the price tag, and rates vary from state to state. Consider using a tax-free shopping service such as Global Blue to receive tax refunds on your purchases.

The official currency of the United States is the US dollar. You can exchange Indian rupees for dollars at authorized banks and money changers before your trip, or withdraw cash from ATMs in the USA. However, keep in mind that international transaction fees may apply.

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in the USA, but make sure to inform your bank beforehand to avoid any issues with your card. Be aware of exchange rates and conversion fees when using your card.

The United States has a rich cultural scene with events and festivals throughout the year. From Mardi Gras in New Orleans to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, there’s something for everyone. Attend music festivals such as Coachella in California or South by Southwest in Texas, or sports events such as the Super Bowl or NBA Finals.

Research events and festivals in each city on your itinerary and plan your trip accordingly. Don’t forget to experience traditional American holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

With the right preparation and information, your trip to the USA from India can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Plan carefully, enjoy the journey, and create lasting memories.

  • Usa Trip From India: Tips For First Time Travellers

USA Trip from India: Tips for First Time Travellers

USA Trip from India: Tips for First Time Travellers

These days, the United States of America can be considered as one of the top travel destinations. With diverse geography and a lot on offer, USA is perfect for every kind of travellers. Plus, with numerous USA tour packages online offering people the perfect way to plan a hassle-free vacation, there is hardly any reason why you too should not plan a US sojourn for your next vacation. However, if this would be the first time you travel to the USA, here are some tips to help you navigate your vacation to ensure the perfect experience: -

1. Travel and Medical Insurance

To get the most basic tip out of the way, the first thing to do would be to find proper travel and medical insurance. Healthcare in the United States is on the expensive side so it would be ideal to take proper insurance before embarking on your USA trip from India. For the best experiences in the USA , it is essential that you travel worry-free. Knowing that you will be able to avail assistance from your insurance provider in case of any emergency will go a long way in letting you enjoy your vacation completely.

2. Put in the Research

Before you book your trip to the States, put on your research goggles and start looking up all the important information for the trip. This doesn’t just include checking out the best places to visit in the USA to create your basic itinerary but also checking out places to stay, how you will get from one sightseeing point to another, the best food options near your accommodation and on your travel route, and more. When you plan a trip to the USA from India, there will be a lot for you to keep in mind and research is the way to go for you.

3. Accept That You Won’t Be Able to See Everything

The most important thing to realise when you plan a trip to the USA from India is that you cannot see everything. The USA is a huge country with 6 different time zones and if you try to see it all on a single trip, you will be left exhausted, that too with sensory overload. Not to mention, your USA trip cost from India will also rise significantly. The best idea is to go deep instead of wide. Pick a region and spend time exploring it thoroughly and save other parts for a different trip. Clubbing NYC and Washington DC is a good idea as is clubbing LA, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Again, proper research will help you plan the perfect itinerary!

4. The Packing

There are many Indian tours in the USA that you can choose from but it is pertinent that you pack properly to be able to enjoy those tours. It is a fact that you never know when some arbitrary thing might come in handy; that said, please do not over-pack. All airlines have restrictions on the weight of the luggage you can carry, and the USA also has a huge list of prohibited items that should not find their way into your bag. Plus, you need to ensure that the clothes you pack are suitable for the weather at your destination. It goes without saying that research is the key to planning your Indian tours in the USA! And, of course, don’t forget to pack all your necessary travel documents in bags that are easily accessible.

5. The Cost of Travel

Even after you add the basic ticket prices, cost of accommodation, etc., you will be nowhere close to calculating the total trip cost from India to the USA. One of the basic expenses that people forget to consider is the cost of travel. If you are on a budget, you will need to be careful about how you travel in the states. While travelling by subway and greyhound buses, etc. will be quite affordable, cabs in cities like New York can leave quite a hole in your pocket. So, before your trip, you will also have to look at the best ways to travel between your sightseeing destinations.

6. Renting a Car

One thing that most people won’t tell you about a USA trip from India is that renting a car and driving through the beautiful highways of the States is an experience you should not miss. You will, of course, have to factor in the rental charges into your trip cost for India to the USA and apply for an international licence. Remember, the USA has left-hand drive cars and strict rules for drivers, so familiarise yourself with the same before you head out. The Pacific Coast Highway, Route 66, and Blue Ridge Parkway are some of the most scenic routes that you can consider for a road trip.

7. The National Parks

If this is the first time you travel to the USA, you must try and include the national parks in your itinerary. While most people would head to the big cities for the glitz and glamour, America’s national parks have a lot of picturesque experiences to offer. You can witness the world’s longest cave system at Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave or walk through the scenic Denali National Park in Alaska. There are about 84 million acres of national parks in the USA. Talk about being spoilt for choice!

8. Don’t Forget to Tip Good Service

It is a major cultural difference that you should be aware of the first time you travel to the USA. While tips are generally not expected in India and are included in your bill as service charge, almost all servers in the US depend on tips for their income and tips are separate from your bills. A basic tip of 20% on your bill should be the norm and if a server goes above and beyond in providing you service, you should be prepared to tip accordingly. Make sure you factor in these expenses as well when you budget for your USA trip from India.

If you enjoy a smoke now and then, one thing you need to remember while on USA tours from India is that smoking is not permitted everywhere. While movies may have led you to believe otherwise, there are very strict laws that govern where you can and cannot smoke in the US. On your USA tours from India, you will be able to see dedicated smoking zones at several places, and that is where you would need to head.

10. Mind that Slang

This is something a lot of people tend to mess up while on a USA tour from India. You may have seen a lot of movies and shows with a lot of slang used regularly. However, don’t make the mistake to use that slang. As surprising as it may seem, slangs are not always acceptable everywhere. In many cases, it may even be seen as offensive. While travelling to different states during your USA tour from India, you must conduct yourself in a proper manner!

Planning a USA trip from India may require a bit of work, but once you are done with all the preparation, you can rest assured that your USA trip from India will be glorious!

Got your passport? If you've ever considered a trip to the United States but were unsure of where to start, you're not alone. While the prospect of international travel can be daunting, millions of people undertake it every year. In fact, more than 1.1 million people annually visit the U.S. from India alone. [1] X Research source Perhaps sometime soon that number could also include you.

Obtaining a Passport in India

Step 1 Access the Passport Seva service and submit your passport application online.

  • A passport is not a visa. While a passport verifies your identity for any international travel, a visa authorizes you to temporarily stay in a foreign country.
  • There are 93 Regional Passport Offices (RPO) in India.
  • The Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) initiative widens coverage of passport-related services at India post offices. There are currently 272 operational POPSKs. [3] X Research source

Step 2 Pay the fee and schedule a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) appointment.

  • If you can't make your appointment for some reason, you can reschedule. You can cancel or reschedule your appointment 2 times in the 12 months following your first appointment.

Step 3 Visit a PSK/RPO office on appointment day with all documentation.

  • Expect to spend about 2 hours at your passport appointment.
  • Your passport should arrive within 2 weeks.

Applying for a Visitor Visa

Step 1 Complete a DS-160 online nonimmigrant visa application.

  • This visa allows for a six-month stay in the United States.
  • The application must be filled out in English.

Step 2 Pay the application fee.

  • For biometrics, officials will take your fingerprints, a photo, and signature. [9] X Trustworthy Source US Citizenship and Immigration Services U.S. government agency in charge of the naturalization and immigration systems Go to source
  • It's a good idea to research and prepare for likely visa questions leading up to your interview. [10] X Research source
  • There are five U.S. embassies or consulates in India: New Delhi, Chennai, Secunderabad, West Bengal, and Mumbai [11] X Research source

Step 4 Be sure to make it to your scheduled appointments on time.

  • Following your interview with a consular officer, you'll learn if your B-2 visa was approved or not.
  • If you are denied a visa, you can reapply in the future. The reason for your application's denial will determine whether you need to pay the application fee again. [12] X Research source

Step 5 Wait for your approved visa to arrive in the mail.

Booking a Flight and Accommodations

Step 1 Decide on when you would like to visit the United States.

Top 5 airlines flying to India

Staff were friendly, and provided great service. The food was plentiful and delicious. Food could have been hotter.

I was traveling business purposes and I only had one carry on and a personal computer back pack . My carry on was 8.5 kg little more than allowable. At jfk airport check in they did not let me carry it . I was little disappointed.

More leg room and comfortable seats at least for long flights

The entertainment selections are amazing. But the live TV is sometimes spotty. If you’re going to have it, then have it. If you can’t make it consistent, then, perhaps it’s better not to have it. The crew are always cordial when approached, but they seem to do the minimum and sit around, talking to each other in the back of the plane during the flight. I realize that delays are not always predictable, but I missed my flight in Dubai because we left 90 minutes late from Washington. I will say that Emirates took very good care of me in Dubai. But I would rather not be delayed.

Probably the best flight I’ve ever been on. Emirates first class is leagues beyond British airways and Lufthansa’s.

Great flight. Comfortable seats, courteous service, and excellent selection for entertainment.

Emirates flights always nice. Service rendered by the staff is superb.I am always comfortable in Emirates flights.

Serving food took so long . Almost time close to lend. Plus during landing air pressure in cabin cuss ear blocked took long time to unblock.

Emirates is usually on time, but not this trip. Also, during the flight the attendants disappear unless called upon. Very strange. I have watched the quality of Emirates service diminish over the last five years.

Food was not great. Crew members were created hassle with attitude at the gates and wasted my valuable time. I have been traveling in Emirates airlines many times. Over all not happy flying in Emirates airlines this time. Seats are very small and not comfortable. Seats looks like very very old and congested. It would be nice if they fix these kind of issues. I hope my next trip will be hassle free and comfortable journey in Emirates airlines. Thank you.

No towels or tissue and chocolate and mint provided before arrival

Qatar airways from Doha to guangzhau was excellent big bird Boeing 777 more room and smoothly flight, I Love it

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

They made us deliberate waste time by holding our passports and boarding passes making us miss the flight

The made us waiting and held our passports and boarding pass making us miss our flights

Not impressed. Only allowed one carry on on such a long flight.

The flight was good but my neighbor had the vent open full power for the whole flight and because the air was blowing from the side instead of from the top and I got very cold and ended up with a sore throat.

Bad experience with the delay n long wait time for connecting flight after missing the connection flight from Doha.

Wore experience due to delay and took me 3 days to reach my destination.

All over with Qatar airlines my experience was really bad due to delays and then putting me on different airlines and after 8 hours of wait I had to listen to their is no plane to fly for another 24 hours. Wore experience ever.

One thing is very important is you people not giving seat arrangement together to couple, senior citizen. You have to take care of senior citizen. Do not look about money. Money is not important everywhere. Make relationship strong is very very important. I like Etiyad air line out of all air line. Food was hot and delicious. Air hostess gave very good service, nice attitude, very good behaviour. I gave 10 out of 10 marks. Thanks Jivraj

Entertainment did not work from flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata. Emirates has a much better flight in that sector.

Very unfriendly team. It was very difficult to get a cup of coffee. Legroom was extremely small. Old, dilapidated plane.

Ripped off and broken seats in Business class. Seats stink and need to request the staff for additional bedsheets. Crew if very friendly though

Food was very good. Again tray could use a non-skid mat. I had a regular seat - comfortable - able to sleep undisturbed. Boarding was uneventful.

Boarding was quick and efficient. Ground staff were pleasant and courteous. Food was tasty, portions were good for me. Food containers kept slipping on the tray. Tray would look better with an anti-skid tray mat. I had the bulkhead seat which was very uncomfortable for couple of reasons. Aircraft is designed with no throughput to move across aisle to aisle. Passengers kept jumping over my legs to get from one side to the other to use the toilet. Secondly I had a mother and 9 month baby next to me. Mom had to hold baby for 12 hours in her lap as he did not fit into the bassinet. Half the baby was on my lap during the flight. Aircraft temperature was very cold - light attendant said it was the central cooling and nothing could be done about it. Movie selection was very poor old and outdated.

Crew member took too long time to take back leftover food plates from passenger seats. Food was nice.Easy excellent checking.Guy at checking counter was really kind and helpful.Made our checking very quickly. Leftover food should be taken back ASAP. Because in economy class passanger have narrow space . In the long journey like this, passanger have difficulties to sit with the plates.overall experience was good.

Crew did not cooperate… I just asked water twice for one crew member and she didn’t get anything.. and when I asked other crew member he gave me water and he was not respectful.. I kept Hindu non veg meal chicken .. when I get my turn chicken was not provided and then they gave me veg paneer and green peas curry which I don’t like..

Sits are very uncomfortable Don’t feel like to travel in Etihad. It was 1st time we traveled in Etihad now we decided we don’t want to travel in Etihad.

Sits are very uncomfortable and food quality should be improved. Alcohol you have to ask and wait for more then 1/2 hrs. Don’t feel like to travel in Etihad. It was 1st time we traveled in Etihad now we decided we don’t want to travel in Etihad.

Dinner was good by air travel standards but breakfast was too light and heavy on carbs/sugar.

Used to love Lufthansa, but Rowe are too close together in Economy and passengers are allowed to recline their seats so far back it is impossible for those behind them to even reach for carry-on essentials during flight - except for meal service when flight attendants ask for seat backs to be raised, we can’t sleep on planes so this flight was most uncomfortable ever! Rod Rose

So far so good. I missed my flight because of the Lufthansa diversion. United helped me to figure out how to get accommodations from Lufthansa for my long layover. They help me book appropriate onward flight.

Horrible crowding on the seats, headphones provided did not fit or work in the entertainment center, seriously the most uncomfortable flight I have taken in a LONG time. The people in front of me were literally 5 inches from my face the entire flight. Did they change their seats recently? I remember it being tight but wow this was a whole new level. Also I am a 5'3" small woman so I can't even imagine a larger person dealing with that for 11 hrs.

Seat controls of lights were broken, and only 1 of the 2 seat TVs ever worked on the long flight. On the short flight there were no USB connections, on the long one they were difficult to access. Part of my meal was frozen, though the hot portion was good.

Lufthansa fails at mentioning no luggage when booking through points. We had to pay added fees to take checked bags to Europe for 2 weeks. The staff at check in were not helpful at all. told us "if we don't like it, then book another flight". Food was bad, they ran out of half the options. Vegetarian was terrible. The flight crew was nice, and tried to make it work ok.

Always a pleasure to deal with United's helpful and knowledgeable staff

Always a pleasure to deal with United's helpful and knowledgeable saff

My school age daughter was not sat near me. We left almost an hour late. Therefore arriving late and missing another flight. Since it was not a connecting flight there was nothing Lufthansa could do about it. After the selay in take off and arrival we waited almost an hour for baggage claim. There was zero concern for my inconvenience. I asked if we could insure being seated together on the return. They stated no because we booked through Kayak. I typically love Lufthansa. This was very disappointing.

Food could be better they need a better caterer in DC flight from India always has better food

Everything! To start with, seats, food tray table, entertainment console all are broken! Imposing duty free baggage fees for $250 as a surprise penalty cannot be appreciated! Airlines should be responsible for transferring the checked baggages to the connecting flight. Having customer go through the transfer is painful considering the travel tiredness! No soft drinks served on flight is another crumble!

Old creaky plane, poor entertainment, USB port did not work. Food was ok.

Old fittings. Went business class. Staff not very considerate regards comfort.

Very old plane. Broken tray tables n seats. Entertainment system super slow to operate and very little content.

Service was good, crew response was prompt. The baked fish and Malay fish as well as the sauces with them were bland.

Screen are not working. Windows not clean. Staff is very good. Food is okay. Experience is good. I hope the up coming is more then betters for others airlines thank you.

This time I felt better. Air hostlers. Need more and more improvement on transit. Get more trouble and painful with service.

Lot of things AIR INDIA needs to improve. Poor service for wheelchair. Crew has improved after TATA took over, yet there are some crew who are still live in old mindset . Throughout the journey we have faced number of issues. For example , my wife boarding pas was issued in some other passenger's name which put us in problem. When AIR INDIA at San Franscisco later issued correct boarding pass, they did not change tag on checked in bag with correct name, This led to hold on of our checked bag. They moved us here and there to get our bag. Food was dried.eg. Rice plate was hot but it rice were dried. Once, I was not given my food even upto all completed their dish. It was given after reminders and when I got later some items were missing. Wheelchair service is poor. The wheelchair carriers ask money at every stage, not only that but they demand more money. How can they ask money from old, aged citizens and disabled persons. This is absolutely nonsense. Even I did not get my checked in bag at Vadodara Airport, it is still missing. They have not given me copy of complaint, only they registered complaint. I also got my one checked bag in damaged condition. There are different issues at different locations which I do not want to highlight. So overall service is poor.

Food was ok. Crew were good. Tv and outlets weren't working at all so nothing to watch and no way to charge devices on a 17 1/2 hr flight. That was not great. Bathrooms were dirty and smelled terrible. Also my multi tool was stolen out of my checked suitcase.

Cost Of Travelling From India To The USA 2023: How To Apply

Cost of travelling from India to the USA: Are you asking for the cost of travelling from India to the United States? Regardless of whether you are going on a family vacation or a business trip. We’ll give you the most accurate information possible on recalls. India, China, Brazil, the majority of African nations, and Russia are just a few examples of the nations that demand a pre-approved visa while entering the United States.

There are several possibilities, but unless you want to stay there for a long time, you’ll probably find a tourist visa the most straightforward to get. However, an American can visit more than 88% of the world’s countries without requesting permission. So, let’s look at the price of travelling to the USA from India and some tips for you.

Despite our desire for a free world, most people still need permission to travel and visit nations other than their own. It is better to understand this concept now because it will most likely persist for some time. Visas are required for everyone, whether they are citizens of the United States or another nation. However, because each visa symbolizes a relationship between countries, the rules do differ by country and are particular to each case.

Knowing the requirements is essential because travelling without the appropriate visa status is not possible. First, we’ll go over general information and the many types of USA travel visas. With this information in hand, you’ll be completely prepared for your vacation and be well informed.

Table of Contents

Types of USA travel Visas

1. Tourist visa: We’ll begin by discussing the tourist visa, also referred to as a visiting visa. Probably the most significant type for readers is this one. Some of you, nevertheless, might be arriving from one nation while visiting another while being citizens of a different one! In this scenario, you need to be attentive to check the travel necessities for your specific context; otherwise, you can find the incorrect information and not be able to travel.

Regrettably, this category isn’t quite that straightforward. While we do have rather strong reciprocal arrangements with many nations, residents of some nations cannot just visit the United States without a visa. Visitors must apply to the U.S. Department of State and receive approval before travelling there. Every nation has a different visa policy

2. Immigration and naturalization visas: A visa for immigration is a document allowing someone to live there permanently. Although immigration does not automatically imply citizenship, this is strongly tied to the naturalization and citizenship process. If you’ve ever heard the phrase “Green Card,” that refers to a certain kind of visa for immigration. However, Green Cards do not automatically confer citizenship.

A Green Card will allow the holder to live and work in the US and is the first step toward citizenship. The citizenship process, often known as naturalization, is the last step in obtaining full citizenship in the United States. Green Card holders are required to wait five years before applying for citizenship. After becoming a naturalized citizen, the holder has full access to all laws (including being subject to them), allowing them to travel to all other countries in the same way as a citizen of the United States.

3. Student visas: The visa for “ studying abroad ” If only we could all accomplish this. When travelling to a country to attend school, a student visa is required. Although many would concur that travel, regardless of the purpose, ultimately serves as an educational experience, in this context, travel is specifically defined as trips where you will be attending classes or studying specific subjects.

These visas are available to exchange students staying for as little as a few weeks or as long as a year. As usual, requirements differ depending on the visa and the country. Recall that a student visa is a non-immigrant visa as well.

Any foreign individual wishing to study in the United States must first get a U.S. Student Visa, which is designated by the letters F and M. This category also includes visas for academics and education professionals going abroad for particular projects, research, or trips. These visas are classified as having the letter J, which is also occasionally used to denote a work visa.

4. Business or work visas: The last category of visas, the work visa, is vastly restricted and challenging to get in any nation. The quite simple explanation for why this is the fact is that nations want their populations to be the engine of their nations’ economic prosperity. In general, the United States vigorously enforces these regulations.

Every nation wants to make sure that its citizens are given preference for the employment that is available there. However, it can be simpler to get one of these sought-after visas if you own your firm.

If you’re an American wishing to work overseas, you should research the regulations for each country before you travel. In our forthcoming article, we will go into greater detail on work visas. The U.S. State Department website has extra information on work visa criteria that you can review until then.

The country is often noted as an economic superpower because of the fact that it makes up almost a quarter of the global economy.

However, the economy of the United States is connected to the population of the country, technological innovation, high average incomes, high consumer spending, as well as a moderate rate of unemployment. Today, if you want to travel to the US, you should know the fact that it has more booming economy than most countries of the world.

For instance, the Grand Canyon National Park, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Yellowstone National Park, islands, monuments (such as the Pipeline National Monument), historical sites among others. However, The national parks in the US cover over 84 million acres across every State, and can claim many superlatives. It can take months to complete a visa for some countries, like India, so get started as soon as possible! Denial does occur, although uncommon. India Tours & Vacations

Travellers looking at a shrine carving with their guide in Delhi, India

There’s probably no other country on the planet that blazes its way into your memory like India.

Years later, you can still hear the morning calls of the chai wallahs; see smoke curling over the Ganges during a golden Varanasi sunrise , and smell the rich aromas of simmering curry. A lot of India tours rush from highlight to highlight, ticking them off in a blur of temples and tikka. But not us. Our India holidays are more about spotting Bengal tigers in Ranthambhore or Panna National Park, hanging with nomads in Jaisalmer, meeting the holy men of Pushkar, or hunting down the best street eats. This isn’t just the India you see on postcards. This is India as it is. Raw, bizarre and totally addictive.

Best time to visit india.

Due to India's size and topography, the climate varies from place to place but the best time to visit, generally speaking, is in the winter from December until early March. During the coolest months (December-January), temperatures can get quite cold in Delhi and in the north, especially at night. The whole country tends to get very hot from April onwards and most regions experience the summer from late May to around October. The summer offers hot and humid conditions, although this is considered one of the best times to visit Ladakh and the hills.

Culture and customs

India is one of the world’s oldest civilizations with a culture steeped in ancient beliefs and traditions. Religion also plays a massive role in everyday life with 80% of the population practicing Hinduism while the remaining 20% is divided into Muslim (India has the world’s second-largest Muslim population), Christian, Sikhism and Buddhist populations.

At its core, India remains a deeply conservative nation; however, it has been touched by rapid modernization and Western influences in recent years. Some families still adhere to a traditional structure (especially in more rural areas) with generations living under the same roof, the eldest male at the head of the family and arranged marriages. But this is becoming less and less popular, particularly in larger cities, where Western ideas and societal shifts heavily influence the culture due to things like Bollywood films.

While some behavioral standards remain the same (public displays of affection are still taboo), it’s important to keep in mind that with more than one billion people speaking over 122 languages across 28 states and seven territories, it’s impossible to describe one unified culture for the entire nations and the character of India’s people can vary greatly from city to city.

History and government

Early history.

Humans have inhabited India for as long as 75,000 years, with early civilizations flourishing as early as 3300 BC. Over the centuries, India both influenced and was influenced by other nations and kingdoms, with far-reaching trade, conquest and migration spreading the subcontinent's culture far and wide. Empires rose and fell over the centuries, with the wealthy Mughal Dynasty ruling most of India by 1600. At the same time, different European nations started showing an interest in India after being brought to the area for trade. The Portuguese, Dutch, British and French all had vested interests in India, with the British East India Company being given the rights to trade in India in 1617. The 1857 rebellion and War of Independence culminated in the decline of Mughal rule and were considered the first movements against the British Raj's heavy-handed rule of the country.

Recent history

By the 1920s, India's independence movement had grown considerably with Mohandas Gandhi leading mass movements based on passive resistance and non-cooperation against the British Raj. Although it took decades, India finally gained independence in 1947. More recently, India has seen dramatic societal changes mainly due to modernization and globalization. A new wave of prosperity has seen the rise of the middle class, with men and women entering into new work roles in telecommunications, manufacturing and business. India's large cities are dealing with the mass migration of rural citizens, who are moving to the city to seek better employment, education and opportunities for their children.

Festivals and events in India

Many of India’s biggest festivals are religious and follow either the Indian lunar calendar or the Islamic calendar. The dates may change each year, but the fervor of celebration never does. Some of the best and biggest festivals to keep an eye out for in India are:

Holi (Festival of Colour)

Take a whole lot of colored powder and water, add thousands of happy people not afraid to get a little (or a lot) dirty and you have Holi – a technicolor Hindu celebration that marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Celebrations take place across India in either February or March.

Diwali (Festival of Lights)

India’s biggest festival – meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’, people decorate their homes with colorful lights, candles are lit and firework displays take place across the country. The celebrations are particularly spectacular in Varanasi, where illuminated candles and earthen lamps are floated down the Ganges River as fireworks light up the sky. This five-day festival takes place every October or November.

Gujarat Kite Festival

Large, colorful and unusual kites flood the skies of Gujarat each January to commemorate the start of summer and the beginning of harvest. Purchase your own at Patang Bazaar, a famous kite market, or just watch the others dance through the sky.

Mumbai Ganesh Festival

The birth of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is celebrated for 10-days each August or September in cities across India, but Mumbai takes it to another level. An incredible energy can be felt throughout the city as people pack the streets for a massive party and an elaborate statue of Ganesh is paraded around.

Pushkar Camel Fair

Thousands of camels (and their owners dressed in their finest garb) descend upon Rajasthan's Pushkar for the annual camel fair. Camels are traded and raced, acrobats and performers entertain crowds at a nearby fair, while finely dressed males and bejeweled females take the chance to let their hair down.

Travel Insurance for Parents Visiting the USA from India

P lanning a visit to the USA for your parents can be an exciting and memorable experience. However, amidst all the preparations, one aspect that often gets overlooked is purchasing travel insurance. It is essential to ensure that your parents are adequately covered during their stay in the USA. In this blog, we will address some common doubts regarding travel insurance for parents visiting the USA from India and help you make an informed decision.

Why do you need travel insurance for your parents visiting the USA?

Travel insurance for parents visiting the USA is crucial for several reasons:

  • Medical Emergencies: The United States has high healthcare costs, and unexpected medical emergencies can lead to significant expenses. Travel insurance can cover medical expenses, ensuring your parents receive the necessary care without financial burden.
  • Trip Cancellation: In case your parents' trip gets canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a family emergency, travel insurance can provide reimbursement for non-refundable expenses like flights and accommodations.
  • Lost Luggage: Travel insurance can compensate for lost or delayed luggage, making sure your parents have the essentials they need during their stay.
  • Travel Delays: If your parents experience flight delays or missed connections, travel insurance can cover additional expenses like accommodation and meals.
  • Emergency Evacuation: In the rare event of a medical emergency requiring evacuation, travel insurance can assist with the associated costs.

Should I Buy Travel Insurance from India or the US?

While it is possible to purchase travel insurance from India, we recommend opting for coverage from the USA. Here is why:

  • PPO Network: Many US-based insurance plans offer access to a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network. This means your parents can receive medical care at lower rates from a network of healthcare providers, ensuring cost-effective treatment.
  • Local Understanding: US-based insurers often have a better understanding of the American healthcare system, making claims and assistance more efficient.
  • Visa Requirement: Some US visas, like the J-1 and J-2 visas, may require insurance coverage that complies with specific regulations. Purchasing insurance from the USA helps ensure compliance with visa requirements.

What is the difference between Indian insurance and US insurance?

The primary differences between Indian and US travel insurance for parents visiting the USA are:

Indian Insurance:

  • Limited Network: Indian insurance plans may have a limited network of healthcare providers in the USA, potentially resulting in higher out-of-pocket costs.
  • Understanding of US Healthcare: Indian insurers may not fully understand the US healthcare system, leading to potential difficulties when seeking medical care.
  • Visa Compliance: Some Indian insurance plans may not meet the specific coverage requirements of certain US visas, potentially jeopardizing visa approval.

USA Insurance:

  • Network Coverage: US insurance plans often provide access to a wider PPO network, ensuring better healthcare options.
  • Understanding of US Healthcare System: US insurers have a better understanding of the American healthcare system, making it easier to navigate.
  • Visa Compliance: Some US visas require insurance coverage that meets specific criteria, which is more easily achieved with US-based insurance.

Which travel insurance is best for Indian parents in the USA?

When selecting travel insurance for your parents visiting the USA, consider plans from Visitor Guard® , a reputable provider who has over 20 years of experience in the visitor insurance sector and has helped tens of thousands of travelers who visited the USA. They are also known for their comprehensive coverage and reasonable rates. Here are some recommendations:

Comprehensive Coverage Plans:

  • SAFE TRAVEL USA COMPREHENSIVE: This plan offers comprehensive coverage, including medical expenses, trip cancellation, baggage loss, and more. This plan also includes coverage for one episode of an acute onset of a pre-existing condition making it a popular choice for parents visiting the USA from India. It provides peace of mind for your parents during their stay in the USA.
  • PATRIOT AMERICA PLUS: Patriot America Plus is a well-regarded insurance plan with comprehensive coverage. It includes medical benefits, emergency medical evacuation, and more. It is a suitable choice for parents looking for extensive coverage.
  • ATLAS AMERICA: Atlas America is another robust comprehensive plan. It covers medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, and other travel-related contingencies. It is a popular choice among visitors to the USA.

Before making a final decision, it is crucial to compare these plans in detail, considering factors like coverage limits, deductibles, network providers, and any specific requirements your parents may have. Additionally, make sure to read the policy documents thoroughly to understand the terms and conditions.

What does travel insurance for parents visiting the USA include?

  • Travel Medical Insurance: This forms the cornerstone of the coverage, given the exorbitant healthcare costs in the United States. It encompasses a wide range of medical expenses, including emergency room visits, physician consultations, prescription medications, surgical procedures, diagnostic tests such as X-rays and laboratory work, , and even physical therapy.
  • COVID-19 Coverage: Many travel insurance plans now incorporate coverage for expenses related to COVID-19, spanning testing and treatment. Moreover, some policies may extend to cover quarantine-related costs, a particularly relevant inclusion in the current pandemic landscape.
  • Emergency Medical Evacuation: This provision accounts for the expenses associated with transporting your parents to the nearest suitable medical facility should a severe illness or injury occur. Additionally, it may also cover the cost of repatriation to their temporary U.S. residence or their home country post-treatment.
  • Coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions: While conventional wisdom might exclude pre-existing conditions, certain policies may offer coverage for acute onsets of such conditions, though it is essential to scrutinize the fine print for specifics. Age-related limitations and condition-specific considerations may apply.
  • Trip Interruption: Some travel insurance plans incorporate conventional elements of travel insurance, encompassing interruption coverage. This aspect serves to reimburse a one-way ticket to the home country should your parents need to truncate their trip due to covered reasons.
  • Travel Delay: Coverage for travel delays caused by circumstances such as flight cancellations or unforeseen events may also be part of the package. This coverage assists in mitigating the additional expenses incurred during prolonged delays.
  • Loss, Theft, or Damage to Personal Belongings: While the primary focus lies on medical coverage, certain policies may extend limited coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings, encompassing luggage and valuable items.

In conclusion, travel insurance is a must-have for parents visiting the USA from India. It provides peace of mind, financial security, and access to quality healthcare during their stay. When choosing insurance, consider opting for US-based plans like those from Visitor Guard® to ensure comprehensive coverage and compliance with visa requirements. Your parents' safety and well-being should always be a top priority when planning their visit to the USA.

After months of checking for reservations within the park, I gave up and booked the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort for 2 nights. We plan to leave on 17th June by 4 am from Redwood City, CA, and reach our resort by 9 am. I have a few questions for the community -

1. Realistically speaking, what kind of traffic should I expect to reach Yosemite Valley on both days? Will we have enough time to at least see the main highlights in Yosemite Valley and do one moderate hike each day? (It is our first time in Yosemite) Currently Google Maps shows 1 hour to reach the valley from the resort, but I am wondering how much longer it would take with traffic.

2. Should I park my rental car at the resort and make use of the YARTS bus to reach the park, or would that be restrictive in terms of exiting at any time, and exploring other areas of the park?

3. I have checked Scenic Wonders for condos within the park, but at almost 800$ for 2 nights, it is completely out of my budget. If there are any chances of cancellations at Curry Village or Yosemite Valley Lodge , how much would they cost approximately?

From the Bay Area, drive to the South Entrance. Be sure all your food, smellables, and valuables are hidden before you get there. Park at Mariposa Grove. Shuttle up. Hike / walk .... Grizzly Giant there and back. Shuttle down.

Drive up to Glacier Point (picnic?) about an hour plus from Mariposa Grove. Then drive to shortcut parking for Sentinel Dome

Or save all of Glacier Point Road for another day.

Stop at Tunnel View , drive down, cross the river, and drive out of Yosemite .

On your next day, leave the Bug by 6 :30 or 7:00. Go to Tunnel View for a morning look, then to the Valley. Park for the day. Valley tourism.

Do you have another day or do you leave this morning?

In addition to the Top Questions on the right side of the page, use the NPS website and YosemiteHikes.com

The June Bug cafe has good food - so you can have a nice dinner after you check in.

The next day, there are lots of hikes to choose from. The earlier you leave, the shorter the line to get through the entrance gate. Bring a picnic lunch to save some time.

Because of the one week free cancellation policy, I have been able to find lodging availability in Yosemite Valley itself by checking 2-3 weeks prior to the date. That is when a lot of cancellations happen

Thank you so much! I was thinking of leaving our bags at the resort and then heading in to the park, but going to Mariposa directly seems like an excellent option.

I leave on 19th morning, but if required I can enter the park for half a day if I manage to get the reservation pass 7 days prior.

I am fervently hoping I get availability in the valley, thanks for the tip - I will keep checking 2-3 weeks prior.

Note that I am suggesting Mariposa GROVE. I am not suggesting Mariposa (the town.) They are different places.

For those who were left totally wanting more after last week’s eclipse, it’s not too early to start thinking about trips to Europe, African and Australia — which will all see total solar eclipses over the next four years.

On Aug. 12, 2026, the moon will black out the sun over Reykjavík, Iceland and just outside of Barcelona, Spain.

A year later — on Aug. 2, 2027 — the zone of totality will be above Luxor, Egypt and the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Spain and Morocco.

And on July 22, 2028, a total solar eclipse will intersect the Australian continent, with the zone of totality above Sydney, the nation’s largest city.

People who follow eclipses are called umbraphiles — meaning shadow lovers — and if they plan early enough, they can avoid paying out-of-this-world prices for Airbnbs, hotels and flights .

zone

Emily Beatty, 32, bought tickets from Los Angeles to Albany eight months in advance to watch the eclipse in the Adirondacks last week, and said her flights were “not too bad” because of her planning.

“I knew about the eclipse like four years ago, and I knew I was going to come out and see it,” said Beatty, a video game producer.

Airline tickets are normally only made available for purchase a year in advance, and a quick check of the travel site Priceline found that roundtrip flights could be had in the days around Aug.12 of this year from New York to either Reykjavík and Barcelona for under $700.

Emily Regan, 30, was visiting Iceland two weeks ago and just returned to her Ovid, New York home to see the eclipse, which she missed because of cloud cover on Seneca Lake in the zone of totality.

“We went out, tried to find a spot on the lake that we thought would have a total view of totality, and the clouds rolled in about an hour and a half before, so that was really disappointing.”

Although she was “super disappointed” that she wasn’t able to see the eclipse, she enjoyed Reykjavík so much that she would go back in two years to catch the next astronomical event.

The Moon's shadow, or umbra, is pictured covering portions of the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick and the American state of Maine in this photograph from the International Space Station as it soared into the solar eclipse from 261 miles above.

“The whole scenery and everything about that area is so beautiful, and seeing it in the summer, when sun goes for — I think it’s like up to 20-something hours in the peak of summer, would be especially cool for the solar eclipse,” said Regan, a school nurse in the South Seneca district.

“Especially because the country is so relatively small that you can get out of the major city center and experience like truly immersed in nature … I’m sure you could find a place just 40 minutes of the city center where you could have some isolation if you really were looking for it.”

Many hotels could be had in the Icelandic capitol this August for between $200 and $250 a night. Lodging was cheaper in Barcelona — by about $100.

With clear skies in eastern New York last Monday, Beatty said the celestial event “100%” exceeded her already high expectations, and said she would love to hop the pond to see another one.

“I think I would I would definitely be interested in seeing it either in Reykjavik or Gibraltar, like that would be really pretty rad,” she said.

Roundtrip flights to Lisbon, Portugal, near Gibraltar, could be snagged for about $950 in August, while flights to Cairo were about $1,000.

The Egyptian capital will not be in the zone of totality in 2027 however, so eclipse-hunters may be better off spending $1,500 to fly to Luxor, where they could enjoy highly rated hotel rooms for as little as $10 a night, according to the travel site.
