Fans Think There Might Be Something Suspicious About Steve Harvey’s Surprise Family Reunion

Steve Harvey was reunited with some people from his past who helped the comedian-turned-talk-show-host when he was still struggling to make ends meet. His reaction to the surprise family reunion caused some fans to become suspicious, especially after it was revealed that Harvey hadn’t parted on the best of terms with his newly reunited family. We can break down the emotional reunion and add some clarity to the questions fans brought up.

Steve Harvey’s Reunion Was Emotional

Every year on his birthday, the producers on The Steve Harvey Show delight in surprising Harvey, which usually results in the talk show host breaking down in tears. It was no different in 2013 when the producers managed to find someone that Harvey hadn’t seen in over a decade. It was Richard Liss, who had financially supported Harvey when he was a young fledgling comedian.

After seeing Richard’s face for the first time in years, Harvey immediately broke down into tears, barely able to answer Richard’s question, “Do you still love me, baby?” After being prompted again, Harvey choked out, “Hey man, I love you man.” That got Richard choked up as well. Then Richard asked if Harvey wanted to meet “his girlfriend,” which was likely an inside joke between the couple and Harvey from back in the day. The tears began flowing anew once Harvey got the chance to see Richard’s wife Becky, who was similarly teary-eyed and husky voiced. Harvey took a moment to explain just who the Liss couple were and why seeing them again turned him into a blubbering mess.

“I was 26 years old, man, and struggling,” he said. “I didn’t have nothing. And these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland. They took me in and gave me my first contract with my little carpet cleaning company.”

After he decided to become a comedian, Harvey ran into a financial roadblock when it came to getting to his gigs across the country. “When I became a comedian at the age of 27, I didn’t have money to travel. They gave me an account at their travel agency. And man, I ran up a bill of like $11,000 just trying to travel and make it,” Harvey revealed, tearfully adding, “Them people right there…man, they helped me out.”

Harvey’s next words made clear that he wasn’t planning to let the generosity go unrewarded. “Hey man, I got money now, Rich!” Harvey exclaimed to the laughter of his audience. “Matter of fact, hey Rich. I’m gonna send a plane to pick up you and Becky,” Harvey continued. “Imma fly y’all to Chicago for the show. I’ve been looking for you for years, man.” The segment came to an end shortly after that, but the interaction between the old friends stuck with some fans, who didn’t seem to find it as heartwarming as others.

Some Fans Had A Few Questions

The reunion seemed to be nice and everyone, Harvey and the Liss couple especially, seemed happy about it. Not all who viewed it felt the same way, however. Some fans had some hard questions about just why Harvey lost contact with the couple, and some even voiced skepticism that the talk show host was unable to find the couple when his producers seemed to have no problem tracking them down.

Why Didn’t He Contact Them Earlier?

As a wildly successful comedian, actor, talk and radio show host, it seemed odd to some that Harvey would have a difficult time finding Richard and Becky Liss. It’s also not like the couple was in hiding, after all. It seemed like they had moved, since their location on the show was listed as Orlando, Florida, while Harvey mentioned that he’d known them while he was in Cleveland, Ohio. It ought to have been fairly easy for someone with Harvey’s resources to find two people, especially in the age of the internet and social media.

There are a lot of reasons, however, that could disprove those suspicions. Harvey didn’t become a successful man by just sitting on his laurels. He hustled for years to get into the position he’s in today. That takes a lot of time and effort. Besides, Harvey was likely focused on his personal affairs, which took several turns in the years between his friendship with the Liss’ and his reunion with them. In that time, Harvey married and divorced twice before eventually marrying his current wife, Marjorie . He also started his family around the same time, which also might have distracted him a bit from his past relationships.

There’s also the shame factor, which several online commenters brought up. After receiving so much help from the couple, as well as an incredibly high travel bill, Harvey could have been ashamed that he wasn’t able to give back to the couple as soon as he made it big. As the years passed, it’s possible that the shame compounded, making it even more difficult for the comedian to reach out. It’s a bit embarrassing to receive help from someone and even more embarrassing to not be able to pay them back for their kindness.

Since the couple had no problem appearing on the show, it seems highly unlikely that they had any hard feelings about not hearing from Harvey after he made it big. From their emotional reaction to seeing him again, it’s possible that they were simply happy to reconnect with a man they believed in. They might even be proud of what he’s accomplished and proud of their role in helping him to reach his dreams.

Steve Harvey’s Family Might Meet His Next Guests

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic still raging on, Harvey has been hosting his show from the comforts of his home, and broadcasting it on Facebook Watch. The show recently got picked up for a second season , meaning there’s a chance that Harvey’s family, but especially his wife Marjorie, might become regular visitors. There’s even a chance that his family might get the chance to meet Harvey’s guests, which would definitely make for an interesting television!

While on air, producers scheduled a mystery segment for Steve Harvey’s birthday that caused the entire studio audience to break down into tears.

The Amazing Surprise Steve Harvey Received on His Birthday

On a recent show where Steve Harvey was celebrating his birthday, something happened that made everyone who witnessed it break down in tears. Steve’s crew decided that it would be nice to organize a surprise for him that they would show on air. When the segment started, Steve protested, insisting that he didn’t like surprises. Unbeknownst to him, this was one surprise he would love.

The mystery segment started with Steve getting an incoming video call from Orlando, Florida. The man told Steve, “Hi, this is Rich Liss from Orlando, Florida, and I called you to wish you a happy birthday.”

Steve immediately breaks down in tears, tells the man that he loves him, then he begins to explain their connection to his audience. Before he can get into his story, the man tells Steve that someone named “Becky” is also on the call, causing Steve to get even more choked up. He continues to explain to the audience that when he was 26 years old, struggling, and looking for an opportunity to make it, Rich and Becky were the first to offer him a helping hand.

They owned a furniture store in Cleveland and hired Steve’s carpet cleaning company to work for them. Then, when he started doing comedy at 27, they let him rack up a tab of over $10,000 at their travel agency which allowed him to tour and grow his career. Steve told the couple that he had been searching for them for years. It really was an amazing birthday gift to reconnect with these two wonderful people.

You never know what the people you encounter in life are going to accomplish. If you’re able to give people small breaks here and there, it could make all of the difference to them and potentially change their life. “I just have one question. Do you still love me baby?” That is the single phrase that caused Steve Harvey to have a breakdown on his popular daytime television show. While that phrase might sound innocent enough, apparently to the ‘Think Like A Man’ author it has more meaning than meets the ear. Harvey’s breakdown wasn’t the type to require hospitalization or medication. It was, however, an emotional reminder of where he’s come from.

On the birthday celebration episode of the ‘Steve Harvey Show’, a caller phoned in to ask the comedian “I just have one question. Do you still love me baby?” That caller was Rich Liss, a furniture store owner from Cleveland, Ohio. During the segment, Harvey explained why Liss calling in was so significant.

“I was 26 years old, struggling. I didn’t have nothing and these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland. They took me in and gave me a contract with my little carpet cleaning company. When I became a comedian at 27, I didn’t have money to travel. They gave me an account at their travel agency and I ran up a bill that was $11,000 just traveling and try to make it. Those people right there, they helped me out!”

The production staff did some investigation to undercover the whereabouts of Mr. Liss. Steve Harvey claimed that he’d been looking for him for years, and his production staff finding him was complete surprise.

The funny-man has certain come a long way even from the ‘Kings of Comedy’ Days.

Currently, he is the host of ‘Family Feud’ and anchors his own radio show. In addition to his daytime talk show, Harvey has hosted a variety of awards ceremonies. For his latest venture, Steve will host the 2013 NAACP Image Awards to air on Feb. 1 on NBC. The comedian promises “great things in store for the night.”

Steve Harvey Breaks Down In Tears After Being Reunited With Family Who Helped Him As A Struggling Comedian

It's not very often that you see a grown man cry on television - especially not a man more known for making people laugh.

But Family Feud host Steve Harvey broke down into floods of tears during a recent episode of his daytime talk show when he was reunited with a couple that helped him out when he was a struggling down-on-his-luck comedian .

It was all done as a surprise for Steve's 56th birthday and the motor-mouthed star was for once lost for words as he tried hard to compose himself when faced with his past.

"I was 26-years-old and struggling, I didn't have nothing," Steve sobbed in the video that now has over a million hits on YouTube and which you can watch below. "And these people own a furniture store in Cleveland. They took me in and give me my first contract with my little carpet cleaning company."

Steve Harvey Breakdown: Watch Talk Show Host Hold Back Tears After 'Surprise' Call From Rich And Becky Liss [VIDEO]

Steve Harvey is usually known for his laughs, but it was his tears that made news after he had a breakdown on the set of his talk show during a “surprise” segment on his birthday.

The segment was taped on Jan. 17, when Harvey turned 56-years old, but the video of Harvey’s breakdown went viral on Monday. You can view the above video, which has amassed nearly two million YouTube hits since it was uploaded.

The “surprise” that caused Harvey to have an emotional breakdown turned out to be Rich Liss of Orlando, Fla. Liss and his wife, Becky, extended a line of credit to the then-fledgling comedian 30 years ago, when Harvey was working as a carpet cleaner while cutting his comical teeth.

Harvey explained to his audience why he broke down in tears after seeing Liss appear on the surprise satellite feed.

“I was 26 years old, struggling,” the comedian and talk show host said, holding back tears. “I didn’t have nothing, and these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland and they took me in and gave me my first contract with my little carpet cleaning company.

“When I became a comedian at 27, I didn’t have money to travel. They gave me an account at their travel agency. And man, I ran up a bill like $11,000 just traveling and make it. Them people right there, man, they helped me out.”

After trying to suppress sobs, Harvey turned to his comical side.

“Hey man, I got money now, Rich,” he said.

Harvey then paid it forward and gave back to the couple that gave him so much to start his comedy career.

“Matter of fact – Hey Rich – I’m [going to] send a plane, pick up you and Becky. I’m a fly ya’ll to Chicago for the show,” he said. “I’ve been looking for you for years, man.”

“You bailed me man,” Harvey continued. “I never forgot it. Thank you, man.”

Meet Rich And Becky Liss, The Couple That Helped Steve Harvey When He Was Homeless

S teve Harvey has enjoyed career success for decades as a comedian, actor, author, and host. However, over the years, he has been candid that his success took effort and sacrifice to achieve. Harvey's early days in comedy were filled with struggles , and he was homeless and living in his car for three years. 

"You have to jump and take a leap of faith in order to soar," Harvey shared on his website , and in 1985, that leap meant leaving his role as an insurance salesman to pursue comedy. At the time, Harvey's twin daughters were toddlers. Harvey's career change caused difficulties with his marriage and he and his first wife, Marcia Harvey, eventually divorced . While most of Harvey's scant early-comedy earnings went to his family,  he was fortunate to have Rich and Becky Liss to help him out.

The couple got to know Harvey when both their families were living in Ohio in the 1980s. Harvey was 26 at the time and trying to start a carpet cleaning business. The Lisses became the first people to hire him to clean their furniture store. After Harvey pivoted to comedy, Rich and Becky generously helped pay for his travel costs. While Harvey lost touch with the Lisses over the years, he and his old friends enjoyed an emotional on-air reunion in 2013.

The Lisses Were A Birthday Surprise For Harvey

In honor of his birthday on Steve Harvey's birthday on January 17, the team on his former talk show would plan special surprises. Back in 2013, the producers of "Steve Harvey," contacted Rich and Becky Liss, who were now living in Florida, and arranged for them to call into the program. 

"Do you still love me, baby?" Rich asked Harvey on the show's mystery segment . There was a long pause as the TV host was overcome with emotion at the sight of his longtime friend. After crying on air, Harvey responded with a heartfelt "I love you, man." After the couple wished him a happy birthday, a still-emotional Harvey explained to his audience that the Lisses had befriended him during a particularly difficult time in his life. Harvey candidly disclosed that their travel agency provided $11,000 so he could get to comedy gigs. 

After this poignant display of emotion, Harvey lightened the moment by noting the change in his fortune since he had seen the Lisses three decades earlier. "I got money now, Rich," he declared, eliciting laughter from audience members, some of whom were also wiping their eyes during his story. Harvey then said he would fly the couple to Chicago as his guests. "I've been looking for you for years, man," Harvey added.

Other Birthday Guests Have Moved Harvey To Tears

Rich and Becky Liss weren't the only people who made Steve Harvey cry on air. In 2015, for his 58th birthday, all seven of Harvey's kids arrived on set, along with his wife, Marjorie Harvey. "This is the greatest moment I've ever had. I'm very proud to be your father," a teary Harvey said on the show .

Later during the same episode, the mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, announced that part of Harvey's childhood street would become "Steve Harvey Way." Harvey got misty-eyed as his sister and former neighbors appeared on screen and started crying in earnest when he saw his mother's house onscreen and reminisced about his childhood.  Harvey was overcome a third time when Bruce Ayers stood up in the audience and mentioned his Birmingham comedy club was the first to give Harvey top billing in 1989. As Ayers recounted a successful joke that launched Harvey's career at the prestigious Apollo Theater, Harvey started to sob. 

Off-screen, Harvey experienced similar reactions while thinking about the contrast between his current life and past struggles. In 2022, Harvey talked about how he was in the south of France at a restaurant when the DJ started playing the "Family Feud" theme music. As he watched the patrons recognize and react to the song, Harvey started to cry. "I'm from Cleveland, I come from nothing. And these people are doing the 'Family Feud' theme song in the south of France?" Harvey later remarked to Ellen DeGeneres .

Steve Harvey Gets Surprise Caller On Birthday, When He Recognizes Man From Past He Breaks Down.

On a special birthday episode of the Steve Harvey Show, Steve took calls from well-wishers in front of his studio audience. As the segment came to an end, one of the show’s producers held up a card telling Steve “This one is a surprise.”

“I said no surprises,” said Steve. In the video below, the producer just responds with a smile and holds up a card explaining to Steve that someone is calling him via Satellite from Orlando. Steve is hesitant about the surprise caller, but tells the producers to put them through. The instant Steve sees the man’s face, he bursts into tears.

The smiling man on the other line says to Steve, “I wanna ask you one question: do you still love me, baby?” While we’ve seen Steve get emotional before , no one was prepared for him to cry like this.

After a moment of raw emotion, Steve simply says, “I love you, man.”

“These people,” Steve explains for the audience through tears. “I was 26 years old, struggling. I didn’t have nothing and these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland and they took me in and gave me my first contract with my little carpet cleaning company.”

Steve goes on to introduce the caller and his wife as Rich and Becky. Steve tells the audience that, when he was 27 and started his career as a comedian, Rich and Becky set him up with an account at a travel agency so that he could travel and become the success he is today. “Man, they helped me out,” he says.

As he tells the story of how Rich and Becky helped him, Steve comes up with a plan. “Imma send a plane to pick up you and Becky. Imma fly you up to Chicago for the show. I’ve been looking for you for years, man.”

It just goes to show, no matter how where life takes you, it’s always important to stay humble and remember the people who made a difference along the way.

“I never forgot,” says Steve of their kindness. “Thank you.”

The tears began flowing anew once Harvey got the chance to see Richard’s wife Becky, who was similarly teary-eyed and husky voiced. Harvey took a moment to explain just who the Liss couple were and why seeing them again turned him into a blubbering mess.

I was 26 years old, man, and struggling. I didn’t have nothing. And these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland. They took me in and gave me my first contract with my little carpet cleaning company.

After he decided to become a comedian, Harvey ran into a financial roadblock when it came to getting to his gigs across the country. “When I became a comedian at the age of 27, I didn’t have money to travel. They gave me an account at their travel agency. And man, I ran up a bill of like $11,000 just trying to travel and make it,” Harvey revealed, tearfully adding,

Them people right there…man, they helped me out.

Harvey’s next words made clear that he wasn’t planning to let the generosity go unrewarded. “Hey man, I got money now, Rich!” Harvey exclaimed to the laughter of his audience. “Matter of fact, hey Rich. I’m gonna send a plane to pick up you and Becky,” Harvey continued.

“Imma fly y’all to Chicago for the show. I’ve been looking for you for years, man.” The segment came to an end shortly after that, but the interaction between the old friends stuck with some fans, who didn’t seem to find it as heartwarming as others.

The reunion seemed to be nice and everyone, Harvey and the Liss couple especially, seemed happy about it. Not all who viewed it felt the same way, however.

Some fans had some hard questions about just why Harvey lost contact with the couple, and some even voiced skepticism that the talk show host was unable to find the couple when his producers seemed to have no problem tracking them down.

As a wildly successful comedian, actor, talk and radio show host, it seemed odd to some that Harvey would have a difficult time finding Richard and Becky Liss. It’s also not like the couple was in hiding, after all.

It seemed like they had moved, since their location on the show was listed as Orlando, Florida, while Harvey mentioned that he’d known them while he was in Cleveland, Ohio. It ought to have been fairly easy for someone with Harvey’s resources to find two people, especially in the age of the internet and social media.

There are a lot of reasons, however, that could disprove those suspicions. Harvey didn’t become a successful man by just sitting on his laurels. He hustled for years to get into the position he’s in today. That takes a lot of time and effort. Besides, Harvey was likely focused on his personal affairs, which took several turns in the years between his friendship with the Liss’ and his reunion with them.

In that time, Harvey married and divorced twice before eventually marrying his current wife, Marjorie. He also started his family around the same time, which also might have distracted him a bit from his past relationships.

There’s also the shame factor, which several online commenters brought up. After receiving so much help from the couple, as well as an incredibly high travel bill, Harvey could have been ashamed that he wasn’t able to give back to the couple as soon as he made it big.

As the years passed, it’s possible that the shame compounded, making it even more difficult for the comedian to reach out. It’s a bit embarrassing to receive help from someone and even more embarrassing to not be able to pay them back for their kindness.

Since the couple had no problem appearing on the show, it seems highly unlikely that they had any hard feelings about not hearing from Harvey after he made it big. From their emotional reaction to seeing him again, it’s possible that they were simply happy to reconnect with a man they believed in. They might even be proud of what he’s accomplished and proud of their role in helping him to reach his dreams.

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic still raging on, Harvey has been hosting his show from the comforts of his home, and broadcasting it on Facebook Watch. The show recently got picked up for a second season, meaning there’s a chance that Harvey’s family, but especially his wife Marjorie, might become regular visitors. There’s even a chance that his family might get the chance to meet Harvey’s guests, which would definitely make for an interesting television!

Orlando commissioner regina hill pleads not guilty in elder-abuse arrest, things to do entertainment, steve harvey sheds tears over generous orlando supporters.

Steve Harvey is known for his jokes, but his tears moved viewers Thursday.

During a special birthday episode of “Steve Harvey,” the comedian caught up with Rich and Becky Liss of Orlando.

“This is Rich Liss from Orlando, Fla.,” he said via satellite from Central Florida. “Do you still love me baby?”

A moved Harvey declared his love and explained that Rich and Becky offered crucial help when the comedian was struggling at age 26.

“I didn’t have nothing, and these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland,” Harvey said. “They took me in and gave me my first contract with my little carpet-cleaning company.

“When I became a comedian at 27, I didn’t have money to travel. They gave me an account at their travel agency and, man, I ran up a bill that was $11,000 just traveling and try to make it. Them people right there, man, they helped me out!”

That’s not the end of the story.

“I got money now, Rich!” Harvey said. “Matter of fact, hey, Rich, I’m gonna send a plane to pick up you and Becky. I’m gonna fly you all to Chicago for the show. I’ve been looking for you for years.”

Talking about a journey from rags to riches, Steve Harvey is an apotheosis. He belonged to a destitute family where his father used to earn 5$ a day. With such a small amount he has to feed 3 children and a wife. Since childhood, Harvey was a reclusive child. He used to stammer a lot. One day his teacher asked students to write what they want to be in their life. Harvey wrote about his desire of coming on a TV screen. In front of the whole class, the teacher mortified him. In his chagrin, he was tormented and came back home.

Journey for Existence

Since then Steve Harvey decided that he will make his dream come true. He grew up and started doing a job at a travel agency company. That aspiration of becoming successful and shine on TV wasn’t letting him sleep. So, he quit his job and went for his dream.

But when he first quit his job to take a chance at being a comedian, he found himself separated from his wife and living on for as little as $50 a week.

“That was an ugly period, just very painful,” he says of becoming homeless in the late ’80s. “Everybody has a moment when they turn back, when you say to yourself, ‘This is too much,’ ” Harvey says. “I had it on several occasions.”

But, even at his lowest point – hiding in a hotel restroom while attempting to wash up – Harvey powered through.

“I sat down and started crying, but a voice said, ‘If you keep going, I’m going to take you places you’ve never been,’ ” the star explains. “It was like God said, ‘Don’t quit, you’re almost there.’ ”

He started working for Hilarities Comedy Club where he used to write funny dialogues for a stand-up comedian. One day he was witnessed writing by an anonymous person. ‘Why don’t you try to stand up comedy yourself’ said the person. Harvey decided to try his hand in stand-up comedy. After completing his first comedy show he was at seventh heaven. He began to get shows

Success after the Struggles

In 1997, Harvey continued his work in stand-up comedy, performing on the Kings of Comedy tour along with Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac. Further, the tour became the highest-grossing comedy tour in history, grossing $18 million its first year and $19 million in the second. The comedy act would later be put together into a film by Spike Lee called The Original Kings of Comedy .

He has still more levels to reach, as his vision board demonstrates. Turning reflective, he says, “I’m not one of those people who’s going to be on a yacht sailing the world [in retirement My calling is to help people, to teach people, to share with people until I die. I can never stop doing that. I can’t and I don’t want to.”

How Steve Harvey was enlightened about Africa after visiting slave castles in Ghana [Photos]

Comedian and actor Steve Harvey’s trip to Africa has been an eye-opener and emotional experience he would most likely never forget and forever hold dear considering the stereotypical jokes he once made about the continent.

Currently in Botswana where he will host a networking event at the University of Botswana Indoor Arena on Wednesday, Harvey’s first stop on the continent was Ghana, visiting the West African nation after an invitation by Ghanaian entrepreneur, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Springfield Group, Kevin Okyere. 

To mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in America, the government of Ghana launched the “ Year of Return, Ghana 2019 ” in a quest to encourage African Americans and the black diaspora to return to the country where their ancestors were kidnapped and enslaved.

The yearlong program was launched in September last year by Ghana’s president in the United States with members of the Congressional Black Caucus making it the only centrally organized public-private partnership with an African nation to commemorate the arrival of Africans in the U.S.

During his stay, Harvey, together with his family visited some popular tourist sites including the historic slave castles and dungeons.

After visiting the Elmina and Cape Coast castles, Harvey took to his Instagram to emotionally describe his experience and urge his brothers and sisters to visit the motherland.

In the video that was attached to the post, Harvey could be seen breaking down in tears when he entered the slave cells/dungeons amid the tour guide’s narration of the harrowing experiences the slaves had to endure before making the treacherous and dangerous journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

“This was real pain I felt going back to Ghana’s slave castles…I could feel my ancestors on me… Powerful beyond words that I can explain,” he shared.

“I encourage as many of you as possible to go HOME for your ancestors. Their strength is in each of us and we must honor their ultimate sacrifice in all that we do,” he added.

Let's hope none of your attendees vote for succession :-( and don't go trying to annex any other travel groups.

There are more commonalities between Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho than between each area and where it's capital is located. No, Pam, he doesn't need to study as he's well-versed in wine pouring, no need to study that. I'll help with the wine drinking if necessary. What I do need him for though is to help move wine barrels and arrange the Warrior Room.
