The American Express International Airline Program (IAP) enables eligible cardholders to book discounted tickets on participating airlines when departing from the U.S. and flying in premium economy, business or first class. These are considered paid fares, even if you redeem your American Express Membership Rewards® points , which means you can earn flight credits and frequent flyer miles from your ticket.

However, not everyone with an Amex card can participate, nor are all airlines eligible. We’ll discuss the participating airlines below, but know that this program is only available to those with an eligible The Platinum Card® from American Express (terms apply) or American Express Centurion Black Card * The information for the American Express Centurion Black Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. card (personal or business version) (terms apply).

American Express overview

American Express offers numerous financial products, including a vast array of credit cards. Amex’s card offerings range from those with no annual fee to others charging hundreds of dollars per year to keep them in your wallet. They typically offer cash back, Amex points or even earn points and miles in co-branded rewards programs, such as Delta SkyMiles or Hilton Honors points.

Two of American Express’ most exclusive cards are The Platinum Card® from American Express (terms apply) and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express * The information for the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. (terms apply). Rather than acting like a credit card in the traditional sense, where you’ll have a preset spending limit and have the option to carry a balance from month to month — though you’ll pay interest for doing so — these cards have no preset spending limit and are designed for you to either pay your balance in full each month or use the card’s Pay Over Time feature which allows you to carry a balance and pay interest if the balance isn’t paid in full. This feature only applies to eligible charges meeting minimum transaction amounts.

All information about The Business Platinum Card® from American Express has been collected independently by Blueprint.

While these cards do have high annual fees, they come loaded with perks, ncluding access to the Amex IAP. These benefits include hundreds of dollars in annual credits, airport lounge access, airline fee credits and more.

What is the Amex International Airline Program?

The Amex International Airline Program (IAP) is available only to those with an Amex Platinum Card, Amex Business Platinum Card or American Express Centurion Black Card * The information for the American Express Centurion Black Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. , and offers generous discounts on certain types of tickets.

There are important IAP rules to keep in mind. For example, while eligible flights include refundable, restricted and non-refundable fares, you must book premium economy, business or first class tickets. Economy and basic economy fares aren’t eligible. Moreover, you must travel internationally, departing from or returning to the U.S. or Canadian gateway airports (such as Toronto-YYZ or Vancouver-YVR).

amex platinum travel notification

Lastly, not every airline is included in the Amex IAP. At present, the following 26 airlines participate:

  • Air New Zealand
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Cathay Pacific
  • China Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Japan Airlines
  • Lufthansa Group
  • Qantas Airways
  • Qatar Airways
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic

You’ll need to book with one of these airlines, departing from or returning to eligible cities on an international itinerary, have an eligible card and book a ticket in premium economy, business or first class. Otherwise, your reservation won’t be eligible for the discounts provided by the Amex IAP, which can be as much as 20%, but there are times where you’ll find discounts even higher than that.

Which cards qualify for the program?

To participate in the Amex IAP, you’ll need to have one of these cards (terms apply):

  • The Platinum Card® from American Express
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express * The information for the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

As Centurion cards are available by invitation only and carry annual fees in the thousands of dollars, others can gain access to the International Airline Program by having an Amex Platinum or Amex Business Platinum Card.

How to navigate the Amex International Program

Because not everyone is eligible for the Amex IAP, you’ll need to log into your account to search and find fares. You can navigate here and log in to get started.

Conversely, if you’re already logged into your account on a computer and are viewing your credit card information, click on the menu in the top left corner. From there, click on “Travel” and then select “Book International Airline Program.”

amex platinum travel notification

This will take you to the search page to begin looking for flights.

amex platinum travel notification

Booking flights

Searching for a flight feels like what you’re used to on other websites, whether you typically search with Expedia, Google Flights or even directly with a particular airline. You’ll enter your starting and ending points, number of passengers and travel dates (note that you can book one-way or return trips here as well) and then select your booking class. Remember that only premium economy, business and first class tickets are eligible for the IAP discount.

Know that only the primary cardholder can book a flight. You cannot use your Amex Platinum Card to book discounted flights for other people if you aren’t flying. However, you can add up to seven additional passengers on the same reservation as you.

When you’re ready to search for flights, input your route, dates and number of passengers as you normally would. When you receive your results, several filters are available to help narrow things down.

amex platinum travel notification

You can filter by the number of stops and departure/arrival times. You also can sort your results by price, duration and departure time.

Scrolling down, you’ll see the list of airlines and their respective prices in your results. There’s a checkbox on the left side to filter for International Airline Program flights only.

amex platinum travel notification

This one-stop flight with Japan Airlines departs San Francisco for Tokyo before continuing onward to Hong Kong. It’s an eligible IAP airline, and because I searched for a business-class itinerary, you’ll see that the flight is marked as an International Airline Program flight. The cost for this one-way itinerary is $2,342 or 234,220 Amex points — roughly 1 cent per point in value.

Notice that Amex has indicated the price is discounted from $3,042, which would be a discount of 23%. To verify the discounted price, we checked Japan Airlines’ website, which shows a price of $3,042 for the same flights on the same date.

amex platinum travel notification

Google Flights shows a slightly lower price of $3,039.

amex platinum travel notification

The Amex International Airline Program is actually beating its own advertised discount of 20% on this particular booking. After selecting your flight, you’ll provide passenger details. Amex will provide another reminder that the primary cardholder must be one of the passengers when booking International Airline Program flights.

amex platinum travel notification

Using your Amex Membership Rewards points

After selecting your flight and entering passenger details, you can pay with your eligible Platinum or American Express Centurion Black Card * The information for the American Express Centurion Black Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. or pay with your Amex points. You also can pay with a mix of the two.

amex platinum travel notification

If you choose the “Use Points + Card” option, you can apply as many or as few points as you wish, with each point knocking 1 cent off the price of the booking. Once you’ve chosen your payment method and confirmed the passenger details, you’re ready to finalize payment and book your flights.

amex platinum travel notification

If you’re unsure how many points you have, there are several ways to check. When logged in, in the top right corner, look for your name next to an icon of your Amex Platinum Card. It will indicate how many points you have.

Additionally, during the checkout process, Amex will tell you how many points you have and whether that number is sufficient to cover the full cost of the flight you’re booking. Unfortunately, if you’re planning to use the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express * The information for the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. ’s 35% points rebate (up to 1 million points back per calendar year), you must have all the points you want to use in advance.

For example, if you’re booking a flight that requires 100,000 points, your final cost would be 65,000 points after getting 35% of your points back with this benefit. However, you need to have the full 100,000 points to book the flight entirely with points; having only 65,000 points in your account would require you to use the Points + Cash booking option.

Final verdict

The American Express International Airline Program is an often-overlooked benefit of the Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum cards. It can provide significant savings when booking international flights between the U.S. and foreign countries on eligible carriers, so long as you’re flying in premium economy or higher cabins.

Booking these flights is a straightforward way to pay for travel with your Amex points as well, rather than needing to understand how transfer partners work and search for award availability. If there’s a seat for sale, you should be able to book it with Amex Travel and pay with points, which will be treated as a cash ticket (thus earning frequent flyer miles during your trip).

With Amex’s airline transfer partners, it’s possible that you may pay fewer or more points when booking an international flight. It’s worth comparison shopping to see what booking method provides the best price as Amex Travel may not have the lowest fare. However, if the price is comparable and you value the simplicity of paying with points at checkout, this is a nice perk to have. And the Amex IAP is even more valuable for Business Platinum cardmembers who can get 35% of their points back — up to a million points back annually.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

American Express cards are accepted in numerous countries, and Amex no longer requires you to submit a travel notification in advance. However, some cards do charge a foreign transaction fee for purchases made outside the U.S., so check your card’s details before making purchases in other countries.

It depends. If the authorized cardholder has a Companion Card, which has no annual fee and minimal benefits, this person won’t have access to the International Airline Program unless traveling on an itinerary with the primary account holder. However, if this authorized user has an Additional Platinum Card, which has an annual fee, it’s possible to book Amex IAP flights without the primary account holder.

No, registration is not necessary. Airline elite status and the Amex International Airline Program (IAP) are not related. With the Amex IAP, you’re booking flights in premium economy, business class, or first class. The benefits related to seats in these cabins may echo some of what you expect with airline status, such as complimentary checked bags, nicer seats, more leg room and better inflight meals.

Ryan Smith

Ryan grew up in Ohio but has lived in half a dozen states and multiple continents before recently returning to the U.S. and settling in southern California. After someone at his hostel in China said, “I flew here for free using points,” Ryan was hooked. In December of 2023, he completed his goal of visiting every country in the world. Ryan has been around points and miles for several years and has published content at Miles to Memories, AwardWallet, The Points Guy and Forbes Advisor. He also holds Brazilian citizenship and speaks fluent Portuguese. His wife joins him on many of his trips, and they enjoy snowboarding, scuba diving, seeing animals in the wild and hunting for vegan tiramisu. When not traveling, Ryan is probably answering questions from his family about how he travels so much and whether this points and miles stuff is illegal.

Guide to lounge access with the Amex Platinum and Business Platinum

Katie Genter

Editor's Note

Many of the best travel cards confer valuable benefits. For example, some cards provide hotel elite status while others offer travel statement credits .

But The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express offer perhaps the most comprehensive benefits of any premium travel rewards card .

Chief among these benefits is access to Amex Centurion Lounges . What many Amex Platinum cardmembers don't realize, however, is that Centurion Lounges are just one type of lounge they can visit through the broader American Express Global Lounge Collection.

Let's go through all the types of airport lounges that are part of the American Express Global Lounge Collection.

What lounges can I access with the Amex Platinum Card?

In addition to Centurion Lounges, both the Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum cards provide members with access to Delta Sky Club lounges (limited to 10 annual visits from Feb. 1, 2025) and Priority Pass Select lounges . Enrollment is required.

amex platinum travel notification

But that's just a portion of the lounges cardmembers can access — other lounges around the world include:

  • Escape Lounges — The Centurion Studio Partner

Plaza Premium lounges

Lufthansa lounges.

  • Other Global Lounge Collection partner lounges

Using the Global Lounge Collection website , you can find participating airport lounges during your travels. American Express states that you'll have access to more than 1,400 airport lounges across 140 countries.

As an Amex Platinum cardmember — including authorized users with additional Platinum cards but not authorized users with companion Platinum cards — you'll get access to most eligible lounge networks by showing your Platinum card, government-issued identification and a valid boarding pass. However, each lounge network has different access requirements and guest policies, so let's look at each.

American Express Centurion Lounges

Centurion Lounges are the most exclusive lounges available to Platinum cardmembers. They offer a staffed bar, meals, ample nonalcoholic drinks, high-speed Wi-Fi and various seating options.

Some Centurion Lounges also provide additional complimentary amenities, such as family rooms and spa services.

  • Seattle (SEA)
  • Stockholm (ARN)
  • Sydney (SYD)

Amex is also planning to open Centurion Lounges at Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport (DCA), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Access policy for Centurion Lounges

amex platinum travel notification

Platinum cardmembers may only access the Centurion Lounge within three hours of their flight's scheduled departure. Access upon arrival isn't allowed unless you have a layover or connecting flight, in which case the three-hour rule doesn't apply. However, access policies may vary from country to country in international locations.

You'll need to provide a same-day, confirmed boarding pass, your Amex Platinum card and your government-issued identification to gain access.

Guest policy for Centurion Lounges

U.S. Platinum cardmembers must pay $50 per guest aged 18 or older and $30 per guest aged 2 through 17 (guests under 2 years of age are complimentary with proof of age).

However, U.S. Platinum cardmembers can qualify for complimentary guest access for up to two guests per visit after spending $75,000 in eligible purchases on their card within a calendar year.

Suppose you spend at least $75,000 on your Platinum card within a calendar year. In that case, you'll get complimentary guest access for up to two guests per visit for the remainder of the calendar year, the following calendar year and until Jan. 31 of the next calendar year. So, if you earned complimentary guest access in 2023, it would be valid through Jan. 31, 2025.

However, note that guest policies may vary from country to country in international locations.

Access to other lounge networks

Centurion Lounges are great, but many airports don't have a Centurion Lounge. So, most of the lounges you can visit with an Amex Platinum Card or Amex Business Platinum Card are in other lounge networks. You can use the lounge search function on Amex's website to see the current operating hours and locations for lounges.

Delta Sky Club lounges

amex platinum travel notification

Amex Platinum cardmembers get access to Delta-operated Sky Club lounges when flying on a Delta-operated flight or a Delta-marketed flight operated by WestJet. To find eligible lounges, head to Delta's website and select "Platinum Card® Members From American Express" as your membership type.

To gain access, show your Platinum Card, government-issued identification and same-day boarding pass. You can only access Delta Sky Club lounges up to three hours before the scheduled departure of a same-day Delta-operated flight or during a connection between two Delta-operated flights on the same ticket.

Currently, you can get unlimited visits to Delta Sky Club lounges before eligible flights. However, beginning on Feb. 1, 2025, Delta will limit Amex Platinum cardmembers to just 10 Sky Club visits per program year (authorized users with additional Platinum cards get their own 10-visit allotment each program year). The program year runs from Feb. 1 through Jan. 31 of the following year.

However, if you spend $75,000 or more on your Amex Platinum card during a calendar year, you can unlock unlimited Sky Club access through the end of the next program year.

It's also worth noting that from Jan. 1, 2024, American Express cardmembers traveling on a Delta Basic Economy or an equivalent ticket with a partner airline no longer get access to Delta Sky Club lounges.

Amex Platinum cardmembers don't get any complimentary guests. However, they can purchase guest access for up to two traveling companions (or their spouse or domestic partner and children under 21) on a per-visit basis.

Priority Pass Select lounges

amex platinum travel notification

Platinum Card members are entitled to complimentary membership in Priority Pass Select . This membership provides access to more than 1,400 lounges worldwide but doesn't include Priority Pass restaurant lounges . The quality of each Priority Pass lounge varies, but there are some excellent Priority Pass lounges .

You must enroll in Priority Pass Select on Amex's website or by calling Platinum Travel Services to gain access. I recommend registering as soon as you get your Platinum Card . Then, once your Priority Pass card arrives in the mail, hand it, your government-issued identification and your same-day boarding pass to the front desk attendant at Priority Pass lounges to gain access. Note that some lounges have limited hours for Priority Pass guests.

The Club is a staple lounge in the Priority Pass network with multiple locations around the US. The location in Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas is one of my favorites which offers on-demand dining and an extensive drink list. This lounge is oftentimes much less crowded than the Centurion Lounge at LAS.

You can bring up to two guests each visit if the lounge accepts guests. If you have more than two guests, the lounge will charge you $35 per guest.

The following U.S. airports have Escape Lounges you can access with your Amex Platinum card:

  • Bradley International Airport (BDL)
  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG)
  • John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH)
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)

You can access a selection of Plaza Premium lounge locations worldwide with your Platinum Card (you can also access some Plaza Premium lounges through Priority Pass ).

To enter, you must show your Platinum Card, government-issued identification, and a confirmed same-day boarding pass. You may enter with up to two guests for no additional cost. Other guests can purchase a daypass, but the cost of a daypass will vary by location.

In a partnership that began in 2017 and was extended multiple times before finally becoming permanent in 2021 , Platinum cardmembers can use select Lufthansa lounges when flying Lufthansa Group airlines (Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines). You may visit select Lufthansa Business Lounges regardless of your ticket class, but you can also visit participating Lufthansa Senator Lounges when flying business class on these airlines.

Not all Lufthansa lounges participate, so check Amex's lounge finder page . At participating locations, you must show your Platinum Card, a government-issued ID and a boarding pass for a same-day Lufthansa Group flight. No guests are included, but some locations may allow guests for a fee.

Additional Global Lounge Collection partner lounges

Platinum cardmembers also get access to other Global Lounge Collection partner lounges, as indicated by the lounge search function on Amex's website . To access participating lounges, you must show your Platinum Card, a government-issued ID and a same-day boarding pass for confirmed travel. However, guest access and guest fees will vary.

Bottom line

The Platinum Card from American Express and The Business Platinum Card from American Express provide access to more lounges than any other cards. It's why the Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum routinely sit at the top of The Points Guy's list of best cards for airport lounge access .

But it's not all about quantity. The quality of the lounges accessible with the Amex Platinum Card and Amex Business Platinum Card is also excellent. For example, I love the locally-influenced dishes served at Centurion Lounges and the relaxing spaces at Escape Lounges.

However, we're seeing lounge access limits as American Express and airlines look to reduce lounge crowding . American Express already removed complimentary guests from Centurion Lounges unless you spend a significant amount on your card each calendar year. And in early 2025, Amex Platinum cardmembers will only get up to six Delta Sky Club visits per program year unless they spend significantly on their card each calendar year.

Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance

Amex Car Rental Insurance

The Amex Platinum card comes with complimentary standard car rental insurance that provides secondary coverage when using your card to reserve and pay for your entire rental car contract. You also have the option to purchase premium primary car rental coverage .

For either coverage to be valid, you must decline the rental car agency’s LDW (loss damage waiver) or CDW (collision damage waiver) coverage when renting the vehicle.

Here’s an overview of how both of these coverages work:

Secondary (standard) coverage means that you must first file a claim with any other applicable insurance you might have before the card coverage applies.

You can expect to receive excess secondary coverage for these losses:

  • Damage to and theft of the vehicle
  • Personal property up to $1,000 per person/$2,000 per accident
  • Accidental injury up to $5,000 per claimant
  • Accidental death/dismemberment up to $300,000

This is just a snapshot of the standard secondary car rental coverage; several terms and conditions apply. You should access the official guide to benefits or call your benefits administrator for specific information.

One of the real car rental insurance perks of holding the Amex Platinum card is having access to Premium Car Rental Protection coverage for just 1 low fee that covers the entire rental period, not a per-day charge like the rental agency charges.

Although there are some credit cards with primary rental car insurance , the American Express Premium Car Rental Protection coverage, in some circumstances, can provide equal or better coverage and elevated peace of mind. Terms and conditions apply.

Bottom Line: Consider Amex Premium Car Rental Protection if you don’t have a credit card that provides primary car rental insurance. Additionally, if you are renting an expensive vehicle that exceeds your card’s limit of coverage or the maximum length of the rental period on your other card is limited to less than 42 days, the Amex Premium Car Rental Protection could also be a prudent choice.

Trip Delay

Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance are designed to cover unexpected, unforeseen events that may cause you to have to cancel your trip or that cause a disruption in a trip you’re already started.

To be eligible for coverage, purchase your entire round-trip common carrier ticket with your Amex Platinum card.

American Express has a broad definition of who is covered under this benefit. Eligible travelers can include the cardholder, traveling companion, family member of the eligible traveler, or family member of the traveling companion.

Examples of events that could be covered include the following:

  • Bodily Injury or Illness — If you, a traveling companion, or a family member of either, experience an accidental injury or become ill, causing you to cancel your trip, you may have coverage
  • Bad Weather — If extreme weather causes your trip to be canceled or disrupted, there could be coverage
  • Change in Military Orders —Applies to cardmember and/or spouse (spouse definition includes domestic partner)
  • Terrorist action or hijacking
  • Jury duty or other qualifying legal obligation
  • Uninhabitable dwelling of either the cardmember or traveling companion
  • Quarantine imposed by a physician for health reasons

You can expect coverage of up to $10,000 per trip , and a maximum limit of $20,000 per card per 12-month period.

Terms and conditions apply.

Bottom Line: While the trip cancellation/trip interruption benefit covers specifically stated reasons for trip cancellation/interruption, there is no coverage for voluntary cancellations, disruptions due to known events, or for preexisting conditions. Additional terms and conditions can be found in your guide to benefits or call the benefits administrator prior to your trip.

Experiencing a trip delay is inevitable so having coverage for added expenses as a result of that delay could be a welcome economic benefit. To qualify for trip delay coverage, just pay for the full amount of your common carrier round-trip transportation ticket with your Amex Platinum card.

The delay must be for more than 6 hours for you to be eligible for reimbursement for necessary incidentals, meals, and lodging.

Coverage limits are $500 per covered trip and a maximum of up to 2 covered trips in each consecutive 12-month period. Coverage is secondary to other coverage that applies and does not include expenses that are reimbursed by the airline or other entities. Additional terms and conditions also apply.

Losing a checked bag used to be a very common occurrence. With new technology and tracking mechanisms, however, incidents have declined, but they still happen. If you do happen to experience lost bags, however, you can count on the baggage insurance found on the Amex Platinum card.

To activate the coverage , simply pay for your common-carrier fare with your card and/or Membership Rewards points.

Here’s the coverage you can expect for lost luggage:

  • Checked Bags — Up to $2,000 per covered person, per trip
  • Carry-on Bags — Up to $3,000 per covered person, per trip
  • Specialty High-value Items — Up to $1,000 per person, per covered trip ($2,000 for New York residents, maximum $10,000 per trip)
  • Combined Limit — The limit for all baggage, including high-risk items, is $3,000 per covered person, per single trip

Checked baggage is covered only while traveling on a common carrier . Carry-on baggage is additionally covered while traveling to , from , and when waiting at the carrier terminal.

Note that the coverage on the card is secondary to any other insurance or reimbursement you might receive from the airline. There is no coverage for delayed baggage , but several other credit cards do offer this coverage .

Premium Global Assist Hotline

Snowboarders on chair lift

While technically not insurance coverage, having access to help when you’re traveling, 24/7, is sure to provide additional peace of mind. The Amex Platinum card offers a premium version of a dedicated helpline that serves as a welcome resource should things go wrong during your travels.

Here are the types of assistance you can expect from the service:

One of the premium services offered on the card is complimentary emergency medical transport or evacuation . If you or a covered family member becomes injured or ill during your travels, you could receive emergency medical transportation or evacuation , if necessary.

You can expect to receive the following services without charge when arranged via the hotline:

  • Emergency Transport or Evacuation — Transport to the nearest medical facility or transport from an inadequate medical facility
  • Transport of Family Member — Transport may be covered for an adult member to be by the bedside of the cardmember or for the cardmember’s minor child (who had been traveling alone with the cardmember) to be transported back to the U.S.
  • Transport of Remains — Amex will pay for the transport of remains back to the U.S.
  • Post-Evacuation Assistance — If you’re evacuated and your return ticket back to the U.S. has become invalid, Amex will arrange and pay for transportation back to the U.S.

Please note that the Premium Global Assist Hotline does not cover any medical expenses or emergency transportation services arranged outside of the hotline. Several terms and conditions apply to these coverages.

In addition to the complimentary coverages offered by the hotline, you’ll find these additional medical services:

  • Medical Referrals — Receive help finding an English-speaking doctor, a hospital, or other needed medical services
  • Prescription Replacement Assistance — Get help with replacing lost or forgotten medications

There is no charge for the referral service but cardmembers are responsible for actual services received from the provider.

  • Passport/Visa Assistance — Whether you need help replacing a passport or have a need to contact the U.S. consulate, the hotline can assist
  • Emergency Translation Services — Receive over-the-phone services or written language translation assistance
  • Legal Referrals — Should you need legal services during your trip, the hotline can help you find local bail bond services that accept Amex or refer you to other legal personnel
  • Financial Assistance — The hotline can help you arrange cash wire services, help you check out of your hotel remotely, or assist with lost card situations
  • Emergency Message Relay — In the event of an emergency, the hotline can send a message to a family member, friend, or another recipient on your behalf
  • Lost Items — Should you lose an item, your baggage gets lost, or other missing possession, the hotline can help track it down
  • Trip Planning Services — Access information such as weather, currency exchange rates, passport/visa requirements, customs information, travel warnings, and more

Bottom Line: The Amex Platinum card comes with complimentary emergency transportation and evacuation services with no stated limit. Additional medical, legal, and travel service referrals are also complimentary, but other than the emergency medical transportation and evacuation, services rendered must be paid for by the cardholder.

As with any insurance claim, you’ll need to report any event as soon as possible, provide supporting documentation, and follow up after the claim has been filed.

You could be expected to submit any, or all, of the following:

  • Copies of your common carrier ticket
  • Copies of your credit card statement showing the expenses
  • Proof of the loss (i.e. a copy of physician’s quarantine order, military orders, etc.)
  • Copy of the travel supplier’s cancellation policy
  • Any other supporting documentation requested by the claims administrator

Claims must be reported within 60 days but it is best to do it as soon as possible. Once you report the claim, you’ll receive instructions for completing the next steps in the process.

Hot Tip: Be sure to take photos and videos, keep receipts, secure any applicable police report, and hold on to other documentation that might be needed to support your claim. Keep in mind that supporting information can be difficult to obtain after the fact but may be readily secured at the time of the claim.

While the insurance that comes with the Amex Platinum card won’t take the place of a comprehensive travel insurance policy , you’ll find value in several of the benefits.

Utilizing Premium Car Rental Protection, trip cancellation/interruption, trip delay, and complimentary emergency medical transport or evacuation could save you more than you could imagine in certain circumstances.

Additionally, knowing the coverages you have in advance has tremendous value. You’ll be armed with information to make educated decisions that can protect each aspect of your trip and be better prepared for how you might handle a covered incident during your travels. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the amex platinum card travel insurance any good.

While the insurance that comes on your Amex Platinum card does not replace a comprehensive travel insurance policy, there is value in the coverages that come complimentary on the card.

Benefits such as trip interruption/cancellation/delay insurance and Amex Premium Car Rental Protection can provide economic value by saving you money should something go wrong during your travels.

Having access to the Premium Global Assist Hotline and complimentary emergency medical transport or evacuation could render peace of mind knowing you have the coverage should you need it.

This coverage is valid for rental periods up to 42 days in length and costs $12.25 to $24.95 per period, depending on the state in which you reside and the coverage limit you select.

Does the Amex Platinum have delayed baggage insurance?

While the Amex Platinum card comes with lost, stolen, or damaged luggage coverage, it does not offer a delayed baggage benefit.

Enrollment required. Terms apply.

National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive

Holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express can also enroll to get Executive tier status in National's Emerald Club program. With Executive tier status, you'll get to choose your preferred car from the Executive Selection area and get a guaranteed upgrade when renting at least a mid-size car.

Plus, as an Emerald Club Executive, you'll earn a complimentary rental day after earning just six rental credits instead of the typical seven rental credits. Terms apply.

» Learn more: How to get car rental elite status through airline or hotel status

In the excitement of picking up a rental car for a trip, you probably don't want to consider all of the things that could go wrong during your rental. Thankfully, cardmembers don't have to decide between shelling out for the rental car's insurance policy or going unprotected.

Holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express can get car rental loss and damage insurance that will cover theft or damage to their rental car up to $75,000. This doesn't include liability coverage. To get this secondary coverage at no additional cost, you only need to meet two requirements:

Use The Platinum Card® from American Express to reserve and pay for the entire cost of the rental.

Decline the collision damage waiver at the rental company counter.

Even better, this car rental benefit extends beyond just the rental car itself. Your personal property — such as luggage and electronics — is covered up to $1,000 per person (up to a maximum of $2,000) against loss or damage during your car rental.

If you incur medical expenses due to an accident in your rental car, AmEx will cover up to $5,000 in medical expenses per person for you and your passengers. And, in the worst-case scenario, cardmembers and their passengers are eligible for accidental death or dismemberment benefits.

Limitations to car rental insurance on The Platinum Card® from American Express

As good as the AmEx rental car protection is, it doesn't cover every car rental. For example, car rental insurance on The Platinum Card® from American Express doesn't cover car rentals in Australia, Italy or New Zealand. Also, AmEx's car rental loss and damage insurance doesn't cover rentals of the following types of vehicles:

Full-sized or cargo vans.

Commercial minivans.

Customized vehicles.

Antique cars.

Limousines.

Off-road vehicles.

While your card covers damage to the car you rented, it doesn't cover liability for damage you cause to other vehicles or people. Check your car insurance policy to see if your liability coverage extends to rental cars. If not, consider purchasing liability coverage.

The Platinum Card® from American Express provides secondary coverage. That means you'll need to file with your insurance company first before you file with American Express. Terms apply.

If you'd rather get primary rental car insurance coverage, American Express sells premium car rental protection. This paid product covers car rentals of up to 42 consecutive days and specifically includes luxury cars and other premium vehicles — all for a reasonable rate of less than $25 per rental. Oftentimes, that's going to be a lot better of an option than purchasing coverage through the rental car company.

The exact price depends on your coverage selections and state of residency. To get up to $100,000 in theft and damage coverage, Florida residents have to pay $15.25 per rental, California residents are charged $17.95 and residents of all other states pay $24.95 per rental.

In addition to covering your rental car, AmEx premium car rental protection provides:

Up to $100,000 of accidental death or dismemberment coverage ($250,000 for California residents).

Up to $15,000 for secondary medical expenses per person.

Up to $5,000 for secondary personal property coverage ($15,000 for Florida residents).

However, as with the complimentary American Express Platinum car rental insurance, liability coverage isn't provided as part of this coverage.

Terms apply.

Just for being a cardmember of The Platinum Card® from American Express , you receive well-rounded benefits whenever you rent a car — from elite status with three rental car companies to complimentary rental car protection coverage.

Note that enrollment is required for many of these benefits — even the paid premium car rental protection product. So, make sure to take a few minutes now to enroll to get elite status with Avis, Hertz and National. Then, make sure to pay for your car rentals with The Platinum Card® from American Express to get coverage. Terms apply.

Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance can provide coverage up to $75,000 for theft of or damage to most rental vehicles when you use your eligible Card to reserve and pay for the entire eligible vehicle rental and decline the collision damage waiver or similar option offered by the Commercial Car Rental Company. This product provides secondary coverage and does not include liability coverage. Not all vehicle types or rentals are covered. Geographic restrictions apply.

Eligibility and Benefit level varies by Card. Terms, Conditions and Limitations Apply.

Business Platinum Card from American Express

Our evaluations and opinions are not influenced by our advertising relationships, but we may earn a commission from our partners’ links. This content is created independently from TIME’s editorial staff. Learn more about it.

Small-business owners who travel often can benefit significantly from the right travel rewards credit card. These cards offer perks that help offset common business expenses and make frequent business travel a little easier.

The card_name is one option for those seeking to add a new credit card to their wallet. This card comes with premium benefits for your business and travel perks that will make your business trips feel more like mini-vacations.

The Business Platinum Card from American Express

Time’s take.

While the card_name comes with significant perks, including over $1,000 in statement credits, Global Lounge Collection access, and elite status with popular hotels, this luxury card isn’t right for everyone. That’s because it comes with a hefty annual fee of $695, which could be difficult to offset unless you travel for business often.

That said, the card_name could hold a lot of value for frequent business travelers who can benefit from its rewards and statement credits. Its many insurance and spending protections can also help ensure you’re covered for things like lost luggage, trip delays, and damaged or stolen purchases.

Pros & cons

  • Up to 5x Membership Rewards on qualifying prepaid hotel and flight purchases
  • Generous welcome offer
  • Over $1,000 in statement credits available
  • American Express Global Lounge Collection access
  • Hilton Honors Gold status and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • High annual fee
  • Good or excellent credit likely required
  • High minimum spend required to earn welcome offer

Who is the card for?

The card_name could be a smart addition to your wallet if you’re a business owner who spends a significant amount on travel. As a card member, you’ll earn up to 5x Membership Rewards for prepaid hotel and flight purchases made through Amex Travel, so frequent business travelers will get the most value from this card’s rewards structure.

The card_name offers a number of statement credits tailored for business owners who travel often, including the following:

  • $400 Dell Technologies credit.
  • $150 Adobe Creative Solutions credit.
  • $360 Indeed credit.
  • $120 wireless credit.
  • $200 airline fee credit.
  • $189 CLEAR Plus credit.

You’ll also get up to $100 in Global Entry or $85 in TSA PreCheck credits when you renew your membership every four or 4.5 years, respectively.

American Express doesn’t disclose its minimum credit score requirements, though top-tier credit cards often require applicants to have good to excellent credit for approval. This likely isn’t the card for you if you’re working on improving your credit.

The card_name ’s array of statement credits is what sets this premium card apart from others. But it also offers several other benefits that appeal to frequent business travelers.

With this card, you’ll earn 5x Membership Rewards points on prepaid hotel and flight purchases you make through the American Express travel portal, 1.5x on purchases in qualifying business categories or eligible purchases over $5,000, and 1x points on all other eligible purchases. This card could make sense if you often book trips through Amex Travel; in fact, given these rewards, it probably doesn’t make financial sense to book outside the portal.

You can redeem your Membership Rewards for travel through Amex Travel, transfer them to one of over a dozen American Express travel partners, and more.

Lounge access

For those interested in relaxing at the airport, the card_name gives you access to more than 1,400 airport lounges in the American Express Global Lounge Collection, including Centurion and Priority Pass Select lounges. A Priority Pass membership can cost as much as $429 annually, so this card’s lounge benefit is a huge value-add.

Travel insurance

Card members also benefit from several insurance coverages to help minimize travel headaches. With this card, you’ll get trip delay, trip interruption and cancellation, baggage, and car rental loss and damage insurance.

Fine Hotels and Resorts benefits

The card_name also gives you access to the Fine Hotels and Resorts Program. Through this program, you’ll get perks like late checkout, free breakfasts for two, early check-in (when available), and room upgrades (when available.)

Elite status

As a cardholder, you’ll get Hilton Honors Gold status and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for no added cost. These statuses give you extra hotel benefits like late checkout and room upgrades (when available.)

The fine print

  • reg_apr,reg_apr_type : 19.49% to 27.49% (variable)
  • Intro purchase APR: N/A
  • balance_transfer_intro_apr,balance_transfer_intro_duration : N/A
  • Penalty APR: 29.99%

Additional hidden perks

Apart from the obvious, this card also has some hidden perks that make it worth considering, including shopping protections, cellphone protection, and expense management benefits.

Shopping protections

Cardholders get exclusive shopping protections, including extended warranty coverage and purchase protection. This card’s extended warranty coverage tacks on a year of additional protection to manufacturers’ warranties on covered purchases. Its purchase protection covers you for up to $10,000 per occurrence (or $50,000 per calendar year) if an eligible purchase is stolen, damaged, or lost.

Cellphone protection

You’ll also get cellphone protection with this card, which is a fairly uncommon benefit. This protection applies when you pay your monthly bill using your card. You can get up to $800 per claim for eligible devices if they’re damaged and need repairs. There’s a cap of two claims per year.

Expense management

The card_name offers tools and features that simplify expense management. Business owners can get employee cards with a smaller annual fee of $350 per card, and can set spending limits and track spending for each employee. American Express also lets you link card transactions with Quickbooks to make bookkeeping and accounting easier.

Cash flow management

With its Pay Over Time feature, American Express gives cardholders the option to pay for qualifying purchases with interest over time instead of all at once. This card also has no preset spending limit, so you don’t need to worry about hitting your credit limit if your expenses and cash flow fluctuate over time.

What could be improved

The card_name is generally only a good choice for a small subset of people: business owners who spend a lot on travel. Its $695 annual fee makes it a cost-prohibitive option if you don’t fall into this category and can’t use all the perks and credits this card offers.

While this card offers up to 5x in Membership Rewards points for qualifying prepaid hotel and flight purchases, its rewards structure is fairly complex and certain competitors have higher rewards rates on general business and travel purchases. For instance, with the Chase Ink Business Preferred, card members earn 3x points on the first $150,000 spent on shipping, advertising, internet and phone service, and travel purchases each year.

Card Alternatives

Bottom line.

If you’re a frequent business traveler who can benefit from the card_name ’s generous statement credits, this card could be a great choice. While it has a very high annual fee compared to many other business credit cards on the market, its rewards and credits can offset that fee if you spend in the right categories. If you don’t, this card likely won’t be the best option for your wallet. Instead, you might opt for a business travel rewards card with a lower annual fee, such as the Chase Ink Business Preferred or the American Express Business Gold Card.

American Express. Don't live life without it.

Enrollment through American Express is required to receive the benefit. Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer and Corporate Platinum Card Accounts can enroll in the benefit by making their airline selection in the Benefits section of their americanexpress.com online account or by calling us. Enrolled Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum and U.S. Corporate Platinum Card Accounts are eligible to receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year for incidental airline fees charged by their one selected qualifying airline to the enrolled Card Account. Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and Additional Card Members on the enrolled Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, the total amount of statement credits will not exceed $200 per calendar year, per Card Account. To receive statement credits, the Basic Card Member must select one qualifying airline through their American Express Online Account or the link for their Card below:

American Express Platinum Card ® : https://global.americanexpress.com/card-benefits/enroll/airline-fee-credit/platinum

Qualifying airlines include Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines, and are subject to change. Only the Basic Card Member or Authorized Account Manager(s) on the Card Account can select the qualifying airline. Card Members who have not chosen one qualifying airline will be able to do so at any time. Card Members who have already selected one qualifying airline will be able to change their choice one time each year in January through their American Express Online Account or by calling the number on the back of the Card. Card Members who do not change their airline selection will remain with their current airline. Incidental airline fees must be separate charges from airline ticket charges. Fees not charged by the Card Member’s selected airline (e.g. wireless internet and fees incurred with airline alliance partners) do not qualify for statement credits. Incidental airline fees charged prior to selection of a qualifying airline are not eligible for statement credits. Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not deemed to be incidental fees. The airline must submit the charge under the appropriate merchant code, industry code, or required service or product identifier for the charge to be recognized as an incidental air travel fee.

Please allow 6-8 weeks after the qualifying incidental air travel fee is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. American Express relies on airlines to submit the correct information on airline transactions, so please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 8 weeks from the date of purchase. Card Members remain responsible for timely payment of all charges. Statement credits may be reversed if an eligible purchase is returned/cancelled. To be eligible for this benefit, Card Account(s) must be not canceled and not past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide statement credits and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time feature balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time feature balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with Lounge access in any way or that you intend to do so, we may remove access to The Centurion Lounge from the Platinum Account. Use of The Centurion Lounge is subject to all rules and conditions set by American Express. American Express reserves the right to revise the rules at any time without notice.

U.S. Platinum Card Members, U.S. Business Platinum Card Members and Additional U.S. Platinum Card Members on the Account will be charged a $50 fee for each guest (or $30 for children aged 2 through 17, with proof of age) unless they have qualified for Complimentary Guest Access. U.S. Platinum Card and U.S. Business Platinum Card Members may qualify for Complimentary Guest Access for up to two (2) guests per visit to locations of The Centurion Lounge in the U.S., Hong Kong International Airport and London Heathrow Airport (“Complimentary Guest Access”), after spending $75,000 or more on eligible purchases on the Platinum Account in a calendar year. Once effective, Complimentary Guest Access will be available for the remainder of the calendar year in which it became effective, the following calendar year, and until January 31 of the next calendar year (for example, if Complimentary Guest Access became effective on May 1, 2023, it would remain effective until January 31, 2025). Eligible purchases made by any Additional Card Members on the Platinum Account will contribute to the purchase requirement. Complimentary Guest Access is limited to two (2) guests per Card Member per visit, regardless of whether you are eligible for complimentary guest access through multiple Platinum Accounts or through other Amex Cards. Guest access policies may vary internationally by location and are subject to change.

Eligibility for Complimentary Guest Access will typically be processed within a week of the Platinum Account’s meeting the purchase requirement, but may take up to 12 weeks to become effective. Complimentary Guest Access status will be reflected in the Benefits tab of your online Account and in the American Express App. Eligible purchases to meet the purchase requirement are for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or other cash equivalents. If a Card Member upgrades or downgrades from a different American Express Card to a Platinum Account, eligible purchases made on that Card Account will count toward meeting the purchase requirement to achieve Complimentary Guest Access on the new Platinum Account.

Effective January 1, 2024: Eligible Platinum Card Members traveling on a same-day Delta-operated flight with Basic Economy (E) fare tickets will not have access to the Delta Sky Club or to Grab and Go.

Effective September 14, 2023 through January 31, 2025: Eligible Platinum Card Members receive complimentary access to the Delta Sky Club or to Grab and Go when traveling on a same-day Delta-operated flight. Eligible Platinum Card Members may bring either up to two guests, or their immediate family (spouse/domestic partner and children under 21) to the Club at a per-visit rate of $50 per person, per location or to Grab and Go at a per-visit rate of $25 per person, per location. The Eligible Platinum Card must be used as the payment method to purchase guest access. Guests must also be flying on a same-day Delta-operated flight. Children under 2 years of age may accompany the Eligible Platinum Card Member for free.

Effective February 1, 2025: Eligible Platinum Card Members will receive 10 Visits per Eligible Platinum Card per year to the Delta Sky Club or to Grab and Go when traveling on a same-day Delta-operated flight. Visits are non-transferable and may only be used by the Eligible Platinum Card Member. Visits issued from February 1, 2025 through January 31, 2026 will expire on January 31, 2026, and Visits issued in subsequent years will expire on January 31 of each calendar year thereafter.

A “Visit” is an entry to one or more Delta Sky Clubs or usage of the Delta Sky Club “Grab and Go” feature, at one or more airports, for a period of up to 24 hours starting upon the first Delta Sky Club entry or Grab and Go usage, during an Eligible Platinum Card Member’s travel on a same-day Delta-operated flight. A single Visit permits usage of Delta Sky Club(s) in multiple airports during the 24-hour period. For example, if you visit a Delta Sky Club in different airports on a trip, entry into one or more of these Clubs will be considered part of the same Visit as long as these additional entries occur within 24 hours of the first Delta Sky Club entry. If travel exceeds 24 hours from the first Delta Sky Club, then a second Visit will be deducted if entering the Delta Sky Club or using Grab and Go more than 24 hours after the first entry. Eligible Platinum Card Members may not access the Club or a Grab and Go location in the three hours from the time of previous Grab and Go usage at the same airport. Once all 10 Visits have been used, Eligible Card Members may purchase additional Delta Sky Club Visits (including Grab and Go) at a per-Visit rate of $50 per person. Visits cannot be used for guest entry. During a Visit, Eligible Platinum Card Members may bring either up to two (2) guests, or their immediate family (spouse/domestic partner and children under 21) to the Club (including Grab and Go) at a per-Visit rate of $50 per person. The Eligible Platinum Card must be used as the payment method to purchase Card Member and guest access. Guests must also be flying on a same-day Delta-operated flight and be accompanied by the Eligible Platinum Card Member. Children under 2 years of age may accompany the Eligible Platinum Card Member for free.

To earn an unlimited number of Visits (“Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access”) starting on February 1, 2025, the total eligible purchases on the Eligible Platinum Card Account must equal or exceed $75,000 (the “Purchase Requirement”) between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024 and in each calendar year thereafter. Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access will be provided to all Eligible Platinum Card Members once the Account has reached the Purchase Requirement. Companion Platinum Cards on Consumer Platinum Accounts and Additional Gold and Additional Business Expense Cards on Business Platinum Accounts are not eligible for the Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access benefit. All entry requirements set forth above will continue to apply with respect to Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access.

Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access will be processed within a week of the Eligible Platinum Card Account’s satisfying the Purchase Requirement in most instances but may take up to 12 weeks to become effective. Once effective, Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access will be available for the remainder of the calendar year in which it became effective, the following calendar year and through January 31 of the next calendar year (for example, if Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access becomes effective on May 1, 2025, it will remain effective through January 31, 2027). Eligible purchases made by any Additional Card Members on the Eligible Platinum Card Account will contribute to the Purchase Requirement. Eligible purchases to meet the Purchase Requirement are for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees, interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers’ checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or other cash equivalents. If a Card Member upgrades or downgrades from a different American Express Card to an Eligible Platinum Card, eligible purchases made on the prior Card Account will count toward the Purchase Requirement. Delta reserves the right to revoke Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access if you return, reverse or charge back eligible purchases in a way that reduces your eligible spend below the Purchase Requirement for the calendar year. If Delta and/or American Express determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this Delta Sky Club Access Benefit in any way or that you intend to do so, Visits may be deducted from your account and/or Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access revoked.

Basic Card Members can earn up to $189 in statement credits per calendar year when the Platinum Card or Additional Cards on the Account are used to pay for an annual CLEAR Plus membership. Enrollment in CLEAR Plus is required and is subject to CLEAR’s terms and conditions. CLEAR Plus memberships automatically renew each year unless canceled and CLEAR will charge the applicable membership fee to the Card CLEAR has on file. American Express has no control over the application and/or approval process for CLEAR, and does not have access to any information provided to CLEAR by the Card Member or by CLEAR to the Card Member. American Express has no liability regarding the CLEAR program. If a Card Member's application is not approved by CLEAR, CLEAR will refund the charges. If the statement credit benefit has been applied before CLEAR refunds the charges, that statement credit will be reversed. Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible purchases will not exceed $189 across all Cards on the Account per calendar year. For additional information on the CLEAR program, including information regarding membership, eligibility, and for a list of participating locations, as well as the full terms and conditions of the program, please go to www.clearme.com . The CLEAR program is subject to change, and American Express has no control over those changes. Please allow up to 6-8 weeks after a qualifying CLEAR transaction is charged to the Card Account for the statement credit to be posted to the Account. American Express relies on accurate transaction data to identify eligible CLEAR Plus purchases. If you do not see a credit for a qualifying purchase on your eligible Card after 8 weeks, please call the number on the back of your Card. Card Members remain responsible for timely payment of all CLEAR charges. If you are assigned a new Card number or have a Card number on file with CLEAR that is outdated (for example, if you replace your Card or if your Card has expired), you must update your Card information on file with CLEAR to help ensure that statement credits are received for eligible CLEAR Plus membership fees. To be eligible for this benefit, the Card Account must not be cancelled or past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment.

The benefit is available to (i) Corporate Gold Card Members, (ii) Consumer Platinum Card ® Members, Corporate Platinum Card ® Members and Business Platinum Card ® Members, and (iii) Centurion ® Card Members. The benefit is also available to all Additional Card Members on Consumer and Business Platinum Accounts, and all Additional Card Members on Consumer and Business Centurion Accounts. To receive the Global Entry statement credit of $100 or the TSA PreCheck statement credit of up to $85, Basic or Additional Card Members on the eligible Card Account must pay for the respective application fee through a TSA PreCheck official enrollment provider with their eligible Card. Basic Card Members are eligible to receive a statement credit every 4.5 years for the TSA PreCheck ® application fee (when applying through a TSA official enrollment provider) and every 4 years for the Global Entry application fee, in each case when charged to the Basic Card or any eligible Additional Cards on the eligible Card Account. Basic Card Members will receive a statement credit for the first program (either Global Entry or TSA PreCheck) to which they or their eligible Additional Cards apply and pay for with their eligible Card regardless of whether they are approved for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. However, eligible Card Members can earn no more than one credit for up to $85 for TSA PreCheck or $100 credit for Global Entry (but not both programs), depending upon the program the Card Member first applies for, for an application fee charged to an eligible Card. American Express has no control over the application and/or approval process for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, and does not have access to any information provided to the government by the Card Member or by the government to the Card Member. American Express has no liability regarding the Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Programs. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) (for Global Entry) and U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) (for TSA PreCheck) charge an application fee to process each respective application regardless of whether the Card Member’s application is approved. The Department of Homeland Security may suspend acceptance of applications on any basis at its discretion. American Express will provide a statement credit for the application fee regardless of the decision made by CBP (for Global Entry) or TSA (for TSA PreCheck) but will not provide a statement credit for subsequent application fees charged to the same eligible Card within 4 years (for Global Entry) or 4.5 years (for TSA PreCheck), even if the original application is rejected.

Membership for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck is per person, and a separate application must be completed for each individual. TSA PreCheck application must be processed through a TSA official enrollment provider. Global Entry membership also includes access to the TSA PreCheck program with no additional application or fee required. For additional information on the Global Entry or TSA PreCheck programs, including information regarding the application and/or approval process and for a list of participating airlines and airports, as well as the full terms and conditions of the programs, please go to www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry for Global Entry and www.tsa.gov for TSA PreCheck. The Global Entry or TSA PreCheck programs are subject to change, and American Express has no control over those changes.

The statement credit benefit applies to the Global Entry or TSA PreCheck programs only. Other program applications including, but not limited to, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST, and Privium are not eligible for the statement credit benefit.

Please allow up to 8 weeks after the qualifying Global Entry or TSA PreCheck transaction is charged to the eligible Card account for the statement credit to be posted to the Card account. American Express relies on accurate transaction data to identify eligible Global Entry and TSA PreCheck purchases. If you do not see a credit for a qualifying purchase on your eligible Card after 8 weeks, simply call the number on the back of your Card. Card Members are responsible for payment of all application charges until the statement credit posts to the Card Account. Statement credits may be reversed if an eligible purchase is returned/cancelled.

To be eligible for this benefit, the Card Account must not be cancelled and not past due at the time of statement credits fulfillment. If American Express, in it’s sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide statement credits and may reverse any statement credits provided to you.

Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Account are eligible to receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year when they or Additional Platinum Card Members use their Cards to pay for eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts ® and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com , the Amex ® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card) or when Companion Platinum Card Members on such Platinum Card Accounts pay for eligible prepaid bookings for The Hotel Collection made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com , the Amex ® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card). Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible purchases will not exceed $200 per calendar year, per Card Account. Fine Hotels + Resorts ® program bookings may be made only by eligible U.S. Consumer Basic Platinum and Additional Platinum Card Members. The Hotel Collection bookings may be made by eligible U.S. Consumer Basic and Additional Platinum Card Members and Companion Platinum Card Members on the Platinum Card Account. Delta SkyMiles ® Platinum Card Members are not eligible for the benefit. To receive the statement credits, an eligible Card Member must make a new booking using their eligible Card through American Express Travel on or after July 1st, 2021, that is prepaid (referred to as "Pay Now" on amextravel.com and the Amex App), for a qualifying stay at an available, participating Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection property. Bookings of The Hotel Collection require a minimum stay of two consecutive nights. Eligible bookings must be processed before December 31st, 11:59PM Central Time, each calendar year to be eligible for statement credits within that year. Eligible bookings do not include interest charges, cancellation fees, property fees or other similar fees, or any charges by a property to you (whether for your booking, your stay or otherwise).

Statement credits are typically received within a few days, however it may take 90 days after an eligible prepaid hotel booking is charged to the Card Account. American Express relies on the merchant to process transactions within the same calendar year that you made the prepaid booking in order to apply the statement credit in the calendar year that it was intended. For example, if you make an eligible prepaid booking on the last day of the year, but the merchant doesn't process that transaction until the next day, then the statement credit available in the next calendar year will be applied to the Card Account, if the purchase is eligible. Statement credits may not be received or may be reversed if the booking is canceled or modified. To be eligible for this benefit, your Card account must not be canceled or past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible, you will not receive the statement credits. For example, your transaction will not be eligible if it is a booking: (i) made with a property not included in the Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection programs, (ii) not made through American Express Travel, or (iii) not made with an eligible Card. Participating properties and their availability are subject to change. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. Please refer to AmericanExpress.com/FHR and AmericanExpress.com/HC for more information about Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, respectively.

However, a statement credit will be provided for only one?monthly Walmart+ membership fee per Card Account per month, whether the fee is charged to the Basic Card or an Additional Card. If you are already enrolled in a monthly Walmart+ membership, the Basic Card Member will begin receiving a monthly statement credit after your?monthly Walmart+ membership fee is charged to the Card. If you are enrolled in an annual Walmart+ membership, the Account will not receive monthly statement credits for that annual membership. For the Card Account to receive the credit, you must switch your annual Walmart+ membership, at least one day before your annual renewal date, to a monthly Walmart+ membership. If you do not switch before your renewal date, your annual Walmart+ membership will automatically renew and the Account will not receive monthly statement credits for the annual membership fee. To switch your annual Walmart+ membership to a monthly membership, please update your membership type by visiting www.walmart.com/plus/amexplatinum or by calling 1 (800) 925-6278. Once enrolled in a monthly Walmart+ membership, your membership will automatically renew each month unless canceled and Walmart will charge the applicable membership fee to the Card Walmart has on file. American Express has no control over the approval process for Walmart+ and does not have access to any information provided to Walmart by the Card Member or by Walmart to the Card Member. Enrollment in the Walmart+ membership program is subject to the full Walmart+ Terms of Use (including the Walmart.com Terms of Use), found here: www.walmart.com/plus/amexplatinum/terms . Walmart+ membership is available to all U.S. residents, however, certain benefits of Walmart+ membership (such as free shipping and fuel discounts) are not available in the U.S. territories other than Puerto Rico. American Express relies on accurate transaction data to identify eligible Walmart+ membership purchases. If you do not see a credit for a qualifying purchase on the Card Account after 8 weeks, please call the number on the back of your Card. To be eligible for this benefit, the Card Account must not be cancelled or past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. Statement credits may be reversed if an eligible purchase is returned/cancelled. If you are assigned a new Card number or have a Card number on file with Walmart+ that is outdated (for example, if you replace your Card or if your Card has expired), you must update your Card information on file with Walmart+ to help ensure that you receive statement credits for eligible Walmart+ membership fees charged to your eligible Card. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If a charge or an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on the Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to the Pay In Full balance. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

Please allow 6-8 weeks after an eligible purchase is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 8 weeks from the date of purchase. American Express relies on the merchant to process transactions within the same calendar month that you made the purchase in order to apply the $20 monthly statement credit in the month that it was intended. For example, if you make an eligible purchase on the last day of the month, but the merchant doesn't process that transaction until the next day, then the statement credit would be applied in the following month. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible for the benefit, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not be eligible if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party (such as an app store or cable bundle) or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.

To be eligible for this benefit, Card Account(s) must not be canceled and not past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. If your Card has been replaced, make sure that the most up to date Account information is on file with the Merchant or else you may not receive the statement credits. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide statement credits and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If you receive a refund for an eligible purchase and the statement credit has been applied before the merchant refunds the charges, that statement credit will be reversed. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

Basic Card Members on a Consumer Platinum Card or Centurion account and Additional Centurion Card Members are eligible for Uber VIP and the monthly Amex Benefit (“Amex Benefit”). To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible Platinum Card or Centurion Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.

If the same Card is added to multiple Uber accounts, only the first Uber account to which the Card is added will receive the Amex Benefit. If your American Express Card details change, you will need to make required updates to your Card details in your Uber payment profile before the end of the current month to ensure you remain enrolled in the Amex Benefit. If you do not update your Card details prior to the first day of the following month, you may need to re-enroll to continue to receive your Amex benefit. It may take up to 48 hours for the Amex Benefit to become available in your Uber account after your eligible Card has been added to that account. Uber VIP is available in select cities and is governed by Uber’s terms and conditions.

The Amex Benefit is found within your Uber Cash balance. In order to use the Amex Benefit, Uber Cash must be turned on. If Uber Cash is turned on when you request a ride, Uber Cash will appear above the confirmation button. If Uber Cash does not appear above the confirmation button, tap on the current payment option and turn on Uber Cash. The Amex Benefit may be applied to all vehicle types with Uber, orders on Uber Eats and to any other services to which Uber permits Uber Cash to be applied. If your Uber Cash balance does not satisfy the cost of your ride or order, the primary payment method on your Uber account will be charged for the difference.

The Amex Benefit will not apply to previous Uber transactions and cannot be used when paying with an UberFAMILY profile. New and existing Uber users are eligible. Uber will apply the Amex Benefit at the point of sale and it will be displayed on your emailed receipt. There is no limit to the number of transactions you may apply your Amex Benefit to each month, up to a total of $15 per month (up to a total of $35 in December).

Your monthly Amex Benefit expires at 11:59 PM Hawaii Standard Time on the last day of each calendar month. Unused balance in Uber Cash from your Amex Benefit will not carry over to the following month. Your Amex Benefit will be applied for the month in which the transaction is completed. Certain other types of balances in Uber Cash may be applied to the cost of your ride or order prior to your Amex Benefit in Uber Cash. For purposes of fulfilling this benefit, American Express will share with Uber certain information about your Card, including the Card type, and updated Card information from time to time. If you do not wish to receive the Amex Benefit, please call the number on the back of your Card.
