London native Dua Lipa’s rise to fame all began on YouTube. Before she was a chart-topping pop phenom, the Albanian-descended singer worked hard to polish her signature vocal sound.

Lipa covered a variety of tracks, from “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys to “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera. At 15 years old, her natural talent grabbed the attention of modeling agencies, securing her a spot in entertainment.

Throughout 2013, Lipa endured a strenuous modeling career and decided to change directions. Eventually, she signed a record deal with Warner Bros. and kickstarted her music career. Her first single, “New Love,” showed off her raspy voice while staying true to the sounds of smooth pop. However, Lipa’s next release, “Be the One,” delivered an even more relatable energy. Its dance-pop elements helped the track explode in several countries, including Australia and New Zealand.

Dua Lipa’s single “Hotter Than Hell” met additional success. After the single landed on the UK charts, Lipa became an artist to look out for. It was no surprise the subsequent release of “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100. The dance-inspired track set the tone for the artist’s growing discography. As her fanbase grew, Lipa took control of her popstar persona. She secured collabs on Sean Paul’s “No Lie” and Martin Garrix’s “Scared to Be Lonely,” furthering her status in UK’s music scene in 2016.

Lipa’s popularity soared when her self-titled debut finally arrived in 2017. Her sixth single, “New Rules,” was a certified record-breaker. After taking the no. 1 spot in the UK, the song made a massive impact in numerous countries, including the US. Thanks to “New Rules,” Lipa obtained five Brit nominations. She won two, including British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Act, elevating her status as a soon-to-be popstar. From 2017 to 2018, Lipa took the concert world by storm and headlined her first tour for her self-titled debut.

More collaborations alongside in-demand artists proved Lipa’s growing fame. “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris eased its way onto British radio waves in 2018, delivering a staple dance club sound. Ultimately, the success of “Electricity” with Mark Ronson and Diplo (aka Silk City) allowed Lipa’s career to take a significant turn. Her signature voice paired well with the record producer duo’s electronic elements. Lipa’s musical versatility shined and laid the groundwork for her highly-anticipated sophomore album, Future Nostalgia.

“Don’t Start Now” was a sneak peek into the musician’s fresh persona. Drawing inspiration from old-school disco and nightclub synth-wave, the single became an undeniable smash. Lipa continued to leave her mark on the charts with the follow-up “Physical.” It was the perfect segue into her Future Nostalgia era.

The singer’s second full-length record left a lasting impression during an unpredictable year. Thanks to numerous top 10 tracks, Future Nostalgia became one of the most streamed albums by a female artist on Spotify in 2020. Her modern take on ’80s disco garnered many new listeners and a well-deserved Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. It was a testament to Lipa’s strength as an ever-changing popstar. She aimed even higher by collaborating with other famous musicians like BLACKPINK, Megan Thee Stallion, and Miley Cyrus.

Nearly four years later, the artist’s “Future Nostalgia Tour” launched her success to the next level. Despite postponed and canceled 2020 dates, Lipa wanted the show to go on. She took center stage with choreographed sequences and dream-worthy dance beats. Fans from all over the world, including the US, Latin America, and Europe, witnessed the pop singer up close and personal. Lipa charted new territory with one of the most anticipated tours in 2022 and opened the way for more critical acclaim.

Live reviews

This was a great concert! Dua Lipa is a great performer with a really strong stage presence. Really loved her voice.

Although she did interact with the audience, I felt that she did so less than other artists I've seen (stuff like explaining her songs a bit more, storytelling related to the city/audience). It didn't really affect how electric she was on stage though.

The concert opened with Ro Ransom, who performed about 5 songs. Her set felt short, but it was still 13 songs, but obviously she doesn't have that much released material out yet compared to other artists.

Her hits like Hotter Than Hell, Be The One, and Blow Your Mind (Mwah) were the most exciting, but I was really looking forward to Genesis and she did not disappoint there. Scared to Be Lonely was also great. I also love No Lies, but I wish she would've done her own spin on Sean Paul's parts too.

Overall it was a great time! Definitely see her if you like her music!

Cologne 10/22/2016 with Dua Lipa!

Perfect show with great performance by the band and Dua Lipa! She sings live without background singers and has an amazing voice! Including her actions with and reactions to the audience by giving some fans the chance to join a song with her and the band together on stage, just to have fun and celebrate the moment with her music was great! Her perfect look and the good acoustics makes it a real experience and a perfect event to be there!

I'd join her concerts again anytime and anywhere, if I'll have time for sure! Hope she will come to Düsseldorf too! I'm waiting for her CD to buy it in real and hope she'll release her album soon! Hugs and Kisses from an fan from Germany! Thanks for the great evening and hope to see Dua Lipa again! Yours sincerely Stefan Meier ;) ***XOXOXO***XXX*** ;)

Absolutely the best concert I was ever at, honestly I don't think any other artist could top this. She had such an incredible presence on stage, every eye was on her and her wonderful team. Dua and her dancers moved gracefully and fluidly, with bursts of power and energy. Her vocals were insanely beautiful, every word was sung with such passion and love. Her grand finale of IDGAF and New Rules was simply amazing, with breathtaking choreography and stunning visuals behind her. The band sounded great and the backup vocalists and dancers were on point for every minute. Without a doubt in my mind it was the very best live performance I have ever seen, and I don't think anything in the future will ever compare to it.

SHE IS AMAZING!! I can't even begin to explain, I can go on for days. She connected very well with every single person in the audience! I don't know how she does it but we each left feeling as if we each had our own experience with her. I LOVE every single one of her songs and HER in general! So much love was sent to her from the audience and we were all brought together by that. She is so very humble and sweet to every person even though at times we were difficult because we wouldn't leave when stage crew told us to because we wanted to spend more time with her. I got a picture with her and that just wrapped the night of an already perfect day at the concert!! I hope to see her again in concert, I'll be one of the first in line. I LOVE DUA!!!!

Oh, wow. Dua Lipa was absolutely fantastic! She is extraordinarily talented and really knows how to work a crowd. The band was brilliant — and I can say it was definitely loud enough!

I was very lucky to see her at a venue such as the Apollo. Such a small venue for somebody doing an arena tour! We got the tickets very early on, before she became massive, and I’m very glad we did.

The whole way home I was smiling. The last song — New Rules — set the place on fire, that last chorus was insanely good, and all complete with confetti canons!

Thank you for the time, Dua Lipa! Money well-spent; it was worth every second!

This concert will stay in my mind for as long as I live, thank you!

I hope she reads this. SO lemme spill the tea. It was freaking amazing. I was so close I could see ever pore on her, and lemme tell you there isn’t many. She’s so amazing and I felt the show ran pretty smoothly except for the fact that it was very hot and everyone around you was sweating their ass off. But she was great. Best night of my life seeing the love of my life. She was so good and it was so beautiful if she ever were to return I would be there in a heart beat. Though the initial show was cancelled I wasn’t one bit mad after attending this one and it was really nice that my old tickets still were valid. Thanks dua, love you lots. -your biggest fan:)

It was the most lit concert i had ever attended. Dua was so full of life & super hyped for the whole concert. Im still upset that yesterday had come to an end way too soon. The most memorable memory i had was the moment she teared uo in her speech for 'New Love' as that song was way too genuine and its from the most vulnerable side of hers. The next memorable moment was the participation in 'IDGAF'the crowd was so wild, and Dua also had a moment with us when she remixed the sentence 'I dont give a F' like amazing man this is the most mesmerising concert i had ever attended. I love you Dua. (heartsheartshearts)

She truly was the most amazing beautiful person I have ever seen. Her voice was a bit tired, as she said, but she still did sound like an actual angel ! She has amazing stage confidence and her moves were gorgeous. I didn't think it was possible to fall in love all over again with Dua. I was also supposed to be balcony but I paid some extra $40 and got barricade ! I was so excited and emotional because Hello I Get To See THE Dua Lipa Up Close. She also stared at me :') An actual angel ! Definitely spend those coins on this talented gal. Dua also looks even more gorgeous in person I cried.

One of the best and enjoyable concerts I’ve ever been to. I’m in stalls standing and very close to the stage. I enjoyed more in a smaller venue in Brixton O2 Academy than O2 at Greenwich Peninsula. The crowds are behaving very well therefore, no pushing or fighting from behind.

Dua Lipa is amazing, she sang really well and performed really good. Love her music songs. She speaks out really well to the fans; she does care for her fans.

The stage screen, sound system and lightings are awesome.

I especially enjoyed the last 2 songs. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Stay Awesome!!

How Dua Lipa’s Debut Album Introduced The Perfect Pop Star

How Dua Lipa’s Debut Album Introduced The Perfect Pop Star

A confident mix of R&B, electro-pop, disco and tropical house, Dua Lipa’s self-titled debut album blew minds and made history.

The UK has an impressive track record when it comes to launching female household names. The 90s graced us with the likes of Spice Girls, while the 2000s bought us one of the best female singers of all time in the shape of the late Amy Winehouse. In years to come, when we reflect upon the 2010s, Dua Lipa ’s name will roll off the tongue – and it all started here, with her history-making self-titled debut album.

Listen to Dua Lipa’s debut album here .

Refusing to fit the mould.

After the frenzy that surrounded the release of her second record, 2020’s Future Nostalgia , it’s sometimes easy to forget that Dua Lipa had made her mark three years earlier. The very definition of a career-defining record, Dua Lipa’s debut album was released on 2 June 2017 and became the most-streamed album by a female artist on Spotify, claiming its place at No.3 in the UK in the process.

Following in the footsteps of other world-dominating pop stars such as Justin Bieber, Lipa kick-started her music career via social media, at the age of 19, while also juggling separate jobs as a waitress and a model. Scouted by Ben Lawson of TAP Management, the future star eventually signed a record deal with Warner Bros, and issued her debut single, New Love, in the summer of 2015. With lyrics that drew upon the trials and tribulations of her previous work life, Lipa quickly made good on her desire to create seductive music that doesn’t sugar-coat what happens in the entertainment industry. Her fifth single, Blow Your Mind (Mwah), took influence from her experience in modelling world, its syncopated electro-pop rhythms slapping with Lipa’s fiery vocals as she expressed her refusal to change herself in order to fit into someone else’s mould.

A national anthem for heartbreak

Ultimately pop in its outlook, Dua Lipa’s debut album was a complicated yet established amalgamation of electro-pop and R&B, fused with elements of disco and tropical house – something she described as “dance-crying”. Maintaining a healthy balance between authentic lovesick ballads and dancefloor-ready anthems, Lipa incorporated themes of relationships and female empowerment into her songs. While Lost In Your Light (featuring a guest turn from US R&B singer Miguel) was rich with breezy melodies that captured the euphoria of the initial stages of a relationship, the career-defining success of the album’s seventh single – of a jaw-dropping eight single releases – New Rules became the national anthem for heartbroken ex-lovers around the world. Earning Lipa her first UK No.1 and reaching the same position in several other countries, the track met with critical acclaim and, still standing as one of the best Dua Lipa songs , it became a fundamental part of the success of its parent album.

Intending to create a sound that landed somewhere between J Cole and Nelly Furtado, Lipa’s list of influences expanded way beyond what was expected, with an eclectic mix of guitar-led bands also helping to shape the record as she drew inspiration from groups as disparate as Radiohead and Stereophonics. Lipa’s wide-ranging influences ran clear in the anomalous cut IDGAF, a riff-lead pop song which turned away from the tropical-house style that dominated the album.

A modern twist on the average pop record

A mark of its longevity, the campaign around Dua Lipa’s debut album lasted from the release of its first single, New Love, issued in August 2015, through to IDGAF, released in January 2018, with Be The One, IDGAF and the mammoth New Rules all taking Lipa into the UK Top 10. The enormous success of the album itself (it would enter the Top 10 in 14 different countries, going platinum in the US and double-platinum in the UK) led to Lipa embarking on a headlining tour of the UK and Europe – dubbed The Self-Titled Tour – while also earning support slots with Bruno Mars and Coldplay.

Favourable reviews predicted that Lipa would be the next pop superstar – and they weren’t wrong. Attracting high praise for her rich mezzo-soprano vocals and the record’s quality production, Dua Lipa’s album became a frequent contender on 2017’s end-of-year lists. Moreover, it received a BRIT Award nomination for British Album Of The Year, while the singles New Rules and IDGAF were both nominated for British Single Of The Year, with IDGAF scooping the win.

With Lipa’s popularity growing by the day, a deluxe edition of the record was released in 2018. Featuring a whopping 25 tracks, it included the likes of the Calvin Harris collaboration One Kiss and the Grammy-winning Electricity, the latter helmed by Silk City (Diplo and Mark Ronson).

The perfect pop star

Putting a modern twist on the average pop record, Dua Lipa’s self-titled debut album was an exhilarating listen which allowed her creative authenticity to run wild. While she described her writing sessions as a form of therapy, wearing her heart on her sleeve and being wholeheartedly herself was a power move like no other. Using past rejections and the fury of heartache as fuel for her lyrics allowed Lipa to blossom into a queen of overcoming heartbreak, bringing committed audiences with her.

Within a few years, Lipa would be hailed as the perfect pop star – a Guinness World Record holder who has advanced to commanding solo arena shows and dominating charts around the world. It’s this record which made it all possible.

Dua Lipa Continues ‘Radical Optimism’ Countdown With Teaser for New Single ‘Illusion’

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

The countdown to Dua Lipa ‘s third studio album Radical Optimism will continue with the release of its third single “Illusion,” out April 11. The album will arrive in full on May 3, but first the singer has some bluff-calling to do.

“Don’t you know I could do this dance all night?” Lipa asks in the snippet for “Illusion,” which features pulsating pop production. “Ooh, what you doin’? / Don’t know who you think that you’re confusing / I be like, “Ooh, it’s amusing” / You think I’m gonna fall for an illusion.”

ILLUSION 11TH APRIL, WHO’S READYYY !!!! 💧💧💧 pic.twitter.com/qG30LIfLtO — DUA LIPA (@DUALIPA) April 4, 2024

The Far Right Is Crawling With Eclipse Conspiracy Theories

Ted cruz is getting nervous he’s going to lose his senate seat, willie nelson thinks queer message in orville peck video is 'more important than ever', jojo siwa is all grown up on new single 'karma'.

“Illusion,” which Lipa said puts her in a “really good mood,” sounds similar in ethos to its predecessor “Training Season,” even if its thematic thread runs more parallel to “Houdini.” There’s an uncertainty to the single, where she sings: “Are you someone that I can give my heart to? Or just the poison that I’m drawn to? It can be hard to tell the difference late at night.” But on “Illusion,” she’s beginning to see more clearly through the smoke and mirrors.

Radical Optimism will have 11 tracks. (Photo Credits: Instagram)

Dua Lipa’s third album, titled Radical Optimism, will be released on May 3.

Singer-songwriter Dua Lipa delighted her fans by sharing sneak peeks from her upcoming album Radical Optimism on Instagram. While sharing the video, which was a collage from different shoots, Lipa wrote, “Album moments. I hear you… feeling optimistic about this week.” This will be her third album, following her self-titled debut Dua Lipa (2017) and Future Nostalgia (2020), which won a Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Album.

In less than 24 hours, Dua Lipa’s post gained over six lakh views. On March 14, Lipa announced her new album, Radical Optimism, scheduled for release on May 3.

Radical Optimism will have 11 tracks, namely: End of an Era, Houdini, Training Season, These Walls, Whatcha Doing, French Exit, Illusion, Falling Forever, Anything for Love, Maria and Happy for You. Two of these tracks are already out as singles. Lipa released Houdini in November 2023. It secured No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 11. Her second single from the album, Training Season dropped in February and charted at No. 27 on Billboard. Both Houdini and Traning Season are produced by Kevin Parker and Danny L. Harle.

In a statement about the album announcement, Lipa said, “A couple years ago, a friend introduced me to the term Radical Optimism. It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life. It struck me, the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm. At the same time, I found myself looking through the music history of psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop. It has always felt so confidently optimistic to me, and that honesty and attitude is a feeling I took into my recording sessions.”

Lipa teased the new album back in October 2023, when she deleted all posts from Instagram and shared a photo with deep red hair as opposed to her signature black hair. She captioned the photo, “Miss me?”

While talking to Allure about what prompted her to have red hair for the new album, Lip said, “It was just me in the studio while I was listening to the music for the new record, and I feel like I just saw the colour red a lot and I wanted to dye my hair and do a little change.” Back in August 2023, Lipa spoke about Radical Optimism with T Magazine, she described it as her most personal album so far. She added that the album will be pop music but with a “more of a lyrical theme”.

Dua Lipa and Callum Turner are bringing back this vintage travel accessory

R omance was in the air at London’s St. Pancras station on Tuesday, and not just because burgeoning power couple Dua Lipa and actor Callum Turner were spotted returning from a trip to Paris.

Beyond their similar leather jackets, there was something nostalgic, even sentimental about their looks. Lipa, carrying a black Hermés bag adorned with a tangled assortment of keychains, a checkerboard claw hair clip and a Hermès Twilly scarf, seemed to be taking cues from another clutter connoisseur — the late Jane Birkin .

Turner, for his part, wheeled a silver Rimowa cabin case decked out with a smorgasbord of luggage stickers. From afar, the pair could have been mistaken for travelers from the 1960s (though Lipa’s cherry Coke-colored tresses and Puma sneakers slightly give the game away), wistfully accruing mementos and keepsakes from trips abroad.

Luggage patches not dissimilar to the ones stickers spotted on Turner’s case emerged in the 1900s, where they were typically offered by grand, palatial hotels such as the Hotel Sole in Palermo, Italy; or the Hotel Europa in Costa Rica. Inspired by the travel posters of the time, an artfully designed sticker was free advertising for an establishment when slapped across a stylish guest’s case, and enabled the traveler to signpost to their prestigious holidaying habits.

“In this age of nostalgia… I say bring back the travel sticker,” wrote the New York Times in 1971, insisting that the colorful decorations are key to evoking pleasant memories and standing out from the crowd. Birkin herself confessed her melting pot of bag charms were part of an expression of individuality. “There’s no fun in a bag if it’s not kicked around,” she told Vogue in 2011, “I always put on stickers and beads and worry-beads. You can get them from Greece, Israel, Palestine — from anywhere in the world. I always hang things on my bags because I don’t like them looking like everyone else’s.”

In an increasingly digital age, tangible objects are gaining new reverence. Last December, sales of vinyl records in the UK reached the highest since 1990. Similarly, during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in 2023, fans exchanged handmade friendship bracelets instead of Instagram handles.

Perhaps Lipa — who has been steadily building her repertoire of quirky bag charms since November after starting out with just a few woven keychains — is also feeling drawn to the physical memento. Birkin would doubtlessly approve.
