Home Tour Of A 3BHK In Bengaluru Transformed By DesignCafe
by Sreya Dasgupta | January 25, 2024 | 6 mins read
January 25, 2024
A look at how our top interior designers in Bengaluru transformed a 3BHK apartment into a cosy paradise.
Manish and Suhana have known each other for 17 years and share a beautiful bond that’s based on friendship, compatibility and values. They are true examples of what urban couples with modern ideas yet traditional values look like. They had always dreamed of a home with luxurious European-themed interiors . The couple wanted a home that oozes comfort and depicts their love for family bonds in every corner.
Finding an interior designer who could imbibe these nuances while elevating the functionality of their space was not easy. That’s until they visited one of their friend’s homes that happened to be designed by the best interior designers of DesignCafe. They called our design experts and then there was no looking back. Nikita, one of our top interior designers in Bengaluru , met Manish and Suhana to understand their preferences and requirements in detail. She then developed some functional designs while keeping in mind the couple’s love for European design aesthetics.
Previously, when the couple looked for and approached the best interior design companies in Bengaluru, they felt that the designers came with preconceived notions. They would try to sell their design styles and ideas. On the other hand, DesignCafe believes in personalised designs. Our designers listen to your preferences and curate the home that connects with you, reflects your personality and story.
We ensured Manish and Suhana’s home was well-lit, clutter-free and designed with clean lines and a sophisticated aesthetic — just the way they wanted.
A Warm And Cozy 3BHK Flat Design With All The Comfort You Need
A Modern And Quaint 3 BHK Flat Design With Just The Right Amount Of Flair
A Vibrant and Fun 3BHK Flat Interior Design
A Luxurious 3BHK Flat Designed With Classy Interiors
A Well Lit 3BHK With Space-Saving Furniture
An Eclectic 3BHK Design With A Variety Of Colours, Patterns and Furnishings
A Luxurious Living Area With A European Theme
We designed the couple’s living room in muted colours with a touch of gold highlighting the European-style design. Suhana is a huge fan of intricate artefacts, so we ensured she has lots of space to exhibit her showpieces. The white chesterfield sectional sofa lends an elegant vibe, but the corner is the showstopper which is also Suhana’s favourite spot. It is designed with her favourite European wall, a wing chair and a lamp. This is where she spends her evenings reading books and enjoying her cup of tea.
A Decorous Dining Room For A Welcoming Vibe
Again, to match the couple’s preference for European-style interiors, we opted for leather upholstered chairs and a mirror-finish highlight wall. The soft tones, clean lines and reflected light jazz up the entire space and create quite a buzz with their friends and family. We added some sputnik chandeliers and uber-cool lamps to seamlessly blend the modern and traditional designs.
A Modern Pooja Room With A Divine Aura
Manish and Suhana were very particular about the pooja room. They wanted a traditional praying space where their mother could offer her prayers comfortably, yet the design should match the home’s modern interiors. So, we designed a smart pooja room with a jali backdrop to enhance the divine aura of the space. The shelves and pull-out counter make it easy for them to perform their daily rituals comfortably.
A Master Bedroom For Comfort And Luxury
They wanted their master bedroom to be soothing and comfortable where they could laze for hours watching TV. We went for a neutral colour tone, a soothing wallpaper on the accent wall and a wall-mounted TV unit. The wood panelling adds a sense of warmth to the space. Manish was a little worried about the niches that came with the external design of the house, but our designer Nikita suggested transforming them into decorative wall slots to showcase Suhana’s artefact collection. This personalised idea took the design aesthetics several notches higher. We have also added a compact and ergonomic workspace where they can take work calls or do their office work.
A Bedroom For Elderly Parents
The second bedroom is designed keeping in mind the couple’s elderly parents. Manish’s mom wanted ample storage space to organise her belongings in a clutter-free manner. So, we added a modular wardrobe and hidden storage solutions for her. The bedroom is designed with light colours and ample lighting options for a bright and well-lit space. We also added an extended headboard to elevate the bedroom’s luxury quotient.
A Kids’ Room To Nurture The Dreams Of Your Little One
Manvik, their six-year-old son, is a fan of construction, so we designed his room with a construction toy theme. The wallpaper with construction vehicle motifs livened up his room and turned it into his happy place. We also added some wall-mounted shelves as a display space for all his toys. The window seater gives the family a space to spend quality time together and enjoy the view as well. The bedroom is thoughtfully designed to give Manvik a space where he can nurture his dreams and enjoy a playful time with his parents.
A Modern Kitchen For A Clutter-Free Cooking Experience
The kitchen is designed with a white acrylic finish to match the overall design and make the space look bright. The handleless drawers and pull-out units provide ample space for storage and free flow movement. The overhead cabinets are kept well within reach for a comfortable cooking experience. Suhana also wanted a space in the kitchen where she could sit while enjoying her cup of tea so we added a breakfast counter for her.
On the whole, Suhana and Manish’s 3 BHK is the perfect example of modern home interiors with minimalistic furnishing, clean lines and a luxurious vibe. Every room portrays the owner’s character and showcases their preferences.

Mindful decor products, old homes, sustainable decor style, from the heart!
Home Tour: A beautiful Antique Modern home in Bangalore
Where : Bangalore Who: Indira, Prashant and their 2 daughters What : A spacious 3350 sq ft single level antique modern apartment, occupied by the family. Prashant’s parents live independently in the same city, and stay over often. The third bedroom was meant for them, but it is currently a guest bedroom. The fourth bedroom is used as a study.
Let’s begin
Indira and Prashant live in a home that successfully blends a great deal of old things – antiques, vintage items etc. with modern elements. I call this style Vintage Modern Indian, or Antique Modern. And this home is the epitome of this style. Keeping this style in mind, I have asked Indira very specific questions, and tried to group together images that reflect her answers. This home tour is a break from our traditional home tour formats.
So let’s go ahead and see the gems that Indira reveals to us, as she talks about this beautiful home she has put together with Prashant.
Indira, what family heirlooms or keepsakes do you currently us e as decor props?
Prashant and I both love pieces which have a history, and a story to tell. We consciously try to bring in these pieces and find ways to blend them into the house. These are some of the old keepsakes that I use in decor:
Great grand father’s brass “paanai”, fused with my wedding “vilakku” to make a table lamp
Footstools and settees handcrafted 50 years ago, during my FILs time in Kalimpong when he was with the Indian Army
A vintage trunk with legs added – as a sideboard in the study
A floor lamp made out of shell casings (again from my FILs time in the Indian Army)
Pillars installed in our living room – they’re tall 8ft pillars from Tamil Nadu.
Any fond memories wrt any of your self acquired products?
Our recent prized possession is a vintage teak door , that was reclaimed during a demolition. This is special because I have been personally working on restoring it. The cleaning, the sanding, varnishing and installation. As the grain gets revealed with each sanding, it deepens my connection with the piece. It is like I know every stroke of it’s finger print. I love this kind of connection with art. I enjoy recreating art masterpieces on canvas as well, for this very reason – to know every square inch.
Another such piece is our swing set. It was custom-made. That’s because the size we needed (based on the beam spacing) wasn’t readily available. The craftsman who made it for us – recreated a whatsapp image to the T. When we went to inspect the piece, we discovered that the family who’s hands created this masterpiece were living in abject conditions. They were entirely sincere and honest with their work. We have stopped negotiating with artisans and craftsmen since then, and have nothing but respect for what they do. We would support this tribe any day.
I call your style Vintage Modern Indian or Antique Modern. But Indira, how would you define and describe your decorating style?
I don’t even know if I have a specific style, because my bedrooms are all fairly contemporary looking. But if I am alone at a yard or a market – I’d definitely be drawn towards the vintage and unique looking pieces – and as a couple, we both are this way – so decorating has been easy and conflict-free.
I don’t like crowding the house and filling it up with things. I would rather have 2-3 statement pieces that fulfill the criteria. These statement pieces would scream art either in the way they are crafted; or art in fabric and art on canvas.
In a nut shell – I’d say our style is timeless and classic – rooted in tradition, yet muted and not heavy / overwhelming.
What tips would you give others who wish to style like you do.
- If you have hardwood, show off the grain – it’s the best art you can infuse
- If you’d like to bring in metals, go for metals like cast iron / brass / copper – which are earthy and natural (personally don’t like stainless steel / aluminium)
- Bring in natural material as far as you can – reed planters, plants etc.
- Fabric is a fantastic source of art – Paste it on your shutters for an instant transformation, frame bits of fabric to decorate an accent wall.
- The most important element in a house is space, so no matter how large or small – never crowd the house with things – especially space to move around
- Go with a few statement pieces
- Try to minimize horizontal spaces – there’s a tendency to fill it up with every day objects (bags / keys / etc) –
Where do you source your decor items from?
- I like traveling to the source – i.e. visit Karaikudi / Pondicherry / Pattamadai etc.
- Old furniture yards – I have a few trusted vendors in Chennai / Bangalore
- Vintage showrooms – Commercial street / Indira nagar / Shanti nagar
- Instagram has been a great source of discovery, but we haven’t bought anything – because we don’t need anything currently
- Most of our baranis and brassware are hand-me-downs
- If any of my aunts / uncles is looking to give vintage stuff away, I always let them know I’m first in line! I recently got a set of wooden puzzles from the early 1900s. I am yet to put it together and display it!
Tell us something about your living and styling choices – what inspires you, what kind of products do you prefer using, etc.
Our home is our world and where we feel rooted and anchored. For me this literally goes back to my roots – I keep getting drawn to the traditional decor styles in southern Tamilnadu- whether it’s Tanjore / Chettinad – all of it – the tanjore paintings, brick cladding, brass, natural granite, rose wood.
I’ve explored and spent time in Rajasthan in my late teens; I am drawn to the fabrics of that region. I have a weakness for block prints / kalamkaris and try to weave them into decor as well. I have woodwork pieces that are pasted with indigenous fabric and sealed. That in itself is functional art (pic below).
- Pieces with history and that tell a story
- Hard wood and gorgeous wood grain are on top of the list – my heart literally skips a beat when I see a vintage rosewood chair in all its grainy glory
- Warm earthy colours – brick cladding (still in my to-do list), Jaisalmer stone flooring (currently still a dream), athangudi tiles – All have a certain ancient feel to it & provides a very comfortable and anchored feeling at home.
- Brass, ceramics, terracotta, and natural fiber (reed / banana fiber / bamboo / fabric)
- I love to play with fabric – I try to bring “fabric art” into decor as much as I can
Wasn’t that wonderful?
Indira’s home is a blend of the old and the new, and here are a few takeaways from this home tour
- Indira’s home speaks of a great deal of love and respect for all things old. They have an almost revered space in her home, and the polish and great condition they are in speak volumes about this facet. In turn, it makes the home look absolutely stunning!
- Don’t be afraid to portray what you love in your decor. For Indira, it is her love of blockprints and fabric that inspired her to add them to her doors and cabinets, making for a truly beautiful outcome. Her love for her roots – Tanjore paintings, Chettinad items, old pillars and vessels, etc is also very visible in her decor.
- Don’t limit yourself to a single store to source to shop at. Scour local markets, pick up items when you travel, and network with local art and antique dealers so that you have a wider range to choose from, and who knows what will catch your eye, when!
- Don’t crowd the house with things. Negative space is as important as owning beautiful things, and the best way to make your beautiful collectibles stand out.
Thank you dear Indira for being so patient and for generously sharing all the pics and information with our readers. Your home is an inspiration and I am so glad for the opportunity to showcase it.
I usually end a tour with my fav picture from the space, so here is my favourite from this home tour.

Excellent travel agency! Exactly one year ago, I decided to travel to Kashi, the spiritual home of the Hindu god Shiva. I did a lot of research online to find a trustworthy travel agent for this trip. When I was looking for a tour company to take me to Kashi, I was relieved to find Nethaji Tours. Through it all, the crew was a huge help. The entire Nethaji Tours team deserves my thanks for all their encouragement and assistance.

Bandipur and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary Tour from Bangalore(ALL INCLUSIVE)
We were looking a thrilling adventure in the midst of nature? Then we found Mytravelcon and booked Bandipur and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary Tour from Bangalore! This all-inclusive tour was the perfect opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse ourselves in the stunning beauty of South India's wilderness. Bandipur and Mudumalai are two of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, respectively. Both are home to an incredible array of exotic flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, elephants, deer, sloth bears, and much more. The tour took us deep into the heart of these sanctuaries, where we had the chance to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. But the tour was not just about wildlife watching. We could also able to explore the stunning landscapes of the Western Ghats, one of the world's most biodiverse regions. From lush green forests to rolling hills to sparkling waterfalls, the scenery was truly breathtaking. We had plenty of opportunities to take photos and soak in the beauty of your surroundings. The tour was designed to be as hassle-free as possible. All transportation, meals, and accommodations were included in the package, so we can sit back and relax while they take care of everything. Hemender arranged to pick up from our hotel in Bangalore and drove us to Bandipur, where we spent the first night in a cozy resort. The next day, they took us on a safari through the sanctuary, followed by a visit to the nearby Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. We spent the second night in a comfortable jungle lodge before returning to Bangalore on the third day. Overall, the Bandipur and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary Tour from Bangalore was an unforgettable experience that we won't forget. Cultural heartlands of 7 Days of South India tour
It was amazing trip the name of 7 Days of South India tour, and it was an incredible cultural journey that I will never forget. This tour truly takes you to the heartlands of South India, immersing you in the rich history, diverse traditions, and vibrant culture of this region. The tour started in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, and from the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the bustling streets, colorful markets, and stunning temples. Our knowledgeable guide Mr.Nadeem took us through the city, sharing fascinating stories and insights into the local way of life. Next, we traveled to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient rock-cut temples and sculptures. Walking through this site was like stepping back in time, and I was amazed by the intricate carvings and architecture. Our guide was passionate about the history of the area and made the experience even more enriching. The tour then took us to Pondicherry, a former French colony, where we got a taste of the fusion of Indian and French culture. The quaint streets, colonial buildings, and delicious French-inspired cuisine were a delightful contrast to the rest of the trip. We also had the opportunity to visit Auroville, an experimental township known for its spiritual and sustainable living practices. One of the highlights of the tour was our visit to the city of Madurai, home to the magnificent Meenakshi Amman Temple. This temple is a true masterpiece of Dravidian architecture, and I was in awe of its grandeur and beauty. Our guide explained the significance of each part of the temple, and I was amazed by the level of devotion and spirituality I felt in this sacred place. The tour also took us to the backwaters of Kerala, where we cruised through the serene waterways on a traditional houseboat. It was a peaceful and scenic experience, and I got to witness the simple and traditional way of life of the locals living along the backwaters Our final stop was the beautiful city of Cochin, where we explored the historic Fort Kochi and its charming streets lined with colonial buildings. We also got to witness a Kathakali dance performance, a traditional form of storytelling through dance and music. It was a mesmerizing performance that gave us a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. South India tour was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the diverse and vibrant culture of this region. The tour was well-organized, and our guide was fantastic, providing us with valuable insights and making the trip even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the cultural heartlands of South India.

Incredible South India
