We drove by and saw the sign for FRESH EGGS and we stopped by to buy some eggs. Long story short...we also booked a horseback ride! We had such a good time with our tour with Miss Nancy! We originally booked an afternoon tour but due to the afternoon thunderstorms it was cancelled and she happily rescheduled for a morning tour. Nancy was highly knowledgeable of the area and pointed out lots of points of interest to us while we rode along and enjoyed the beautiful scenery! We loved how the ride was on dirt rather than rocks. We did a horse ride in Red River last year (July 2021) and it was all on rocks (at least the tour we did). Our horses were Sundance, Badger and Rodeo Queen.

We took a sleigh ride during our stay in Angel Fire. We booked a 11:00 AM ride and we were asked to arrive 30 minutes early. We ended up arriving 45 minutes early and waited and waited. 5 minutes until 11 I called the tour office and asked why the sleighs were there but no horses or staff. After a while I got a text saying they were on their way back from a ride and would be there shortly. At 11:35 I see Nancy who has finally arrived but there are still no horses. It's 20 degrees outside and I'm trying to entertain my 2 yr old while waiting now for over an hour. Nancy receives a phone call that staff is trying to get to us but their car battery is dead. After another 15-20 minutes the horses arrive. We finally get loaded up and leave on the sleighs. The description states a 40 minute sleigh ride. I clocked a 25 minute sleigh ride up a little hill stop for pictures and then back down the same little hill. After waiting over a hour we were treated to a pretty short ride. Nancy did offer us a half price horse ride the next day but we were unable to take her up on her offer. Nancy was kind and I believe she genuinely felt bad for the extensive delay but for a business that has been around a while, this process should run more smooth.

I've never ridden a horse, and always been a bit afraid. Today, I rode a horse with Nancy at Roadrunner horse adventures. The entire experience and beauty of the snowbound woods was amazing! I highly recommend this tour, and she was great with the kiddos on our tour as well:) Do yourself a favor and check it out when in the Taos area:) Don't forget to drive the enchanted circle also! Enjoy!

My wife and I had a great ride with our tour guide Renee while visiting Angel Fire. The horses were well tended to and after my wife's first horse was a little skittish for her they immediately got her a different, more mellow horse. My horse was wonderful and minded well during the entire two-hour ride. We had a lot of fun and will do it again the next time we're in Angel Fire.

This is an excellent tour company. Nolan was our tour guide and was super informative and helpful to all of us in our group. The horses were fantastic and Nolan and Chumo took special care of us. Thank you so much to Nancy Burch and to the whole staff for making our trip. Especially wonderful.

This was a great ride. Nancy Burch, the owner, seems truly interested in the experience more than the money. She seems to want to preserve the traditions and experience of horseback riding for the coming generations. She had a wide range of horses to suit diverse rider sizes and experience levels. Mrs. Burch personally selected the horse for each rider to provide a safe and challenging/relaxing ride, based on each riders skill level and personality. On our ride, we encountered great scenery including meadows and forests, wildflowers and pine trees. We encountered wild life from prairie dogs and birds to mule deer, and even a large herd of elk. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend Road Runner. Mrs. Burch offers a great ride, a glimpse into the past and, if you listen closely, a few lessons for the future.

Our horseback ride was a highlight of our time in Angel Fire. We booked a 2-hour trip through the Carson National Forest. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and constantly checked to make sure that everyone was doing OK on the ride. He took several photos, and even a video, on our cell phones for us to keep. The horses were friendly and easy to ride, even for those with limited riding experience (even if some of the horses did like to sneak in snacks of trailside grass). And, the Carson National Forest itself is magnificent. It wasn't inexpensive, but my family came away with a great memory and feeling like it was worth it.

The tour was overbooked, way too many people. It took 30-45 min to get 21 of us riders on horses. I've gone horseback riding many places and never been in a group this size. It seemed unmanageable for staff and felt chaotic. Nancy was harsh, rude and yelled at us to drink water on the first stop on the tour. It was awkward. I think I know when I need to drink water. It was only an hour ride. She yelled at my kid for not being able to get her horse going. I've seen much more patient and helpful guides. It embarrassed my daughter greatly in front of all the other riders. Nancy and the number of people on the tour ruined it for us. Felt like we were in a class with a mean teacher having a bad day who cared about getting more money instead of giving others a quiet peaceful horseback tour. The two guys who were staff were great and we wished we were just with them instead of Nancy.

This was the best experience ever! I loved every horse! The cowboys Bill and Nolen were exceptional and so much fun! We cannot wait to go back again and again. We met Nancy and her lovely dogs. We felt safe and the cowboys took amazing pictures of my husband and me! I rose Pepper and he rode Roni... the trail through the Forrest was incredible! If you find yourself in Angel Fire THIS IS A MUST!!! What fun we had!!

Photo of Ash C.

Nothing beats the in person experience with the horses like the red carpet Roadrunner Tours rolled out for us. We were lucky enough to schedule a tour with one of the top guides in the bizz, Margaret. Margaret made sure that everyone on our tour felt comfortable on their horse. She makes sure that your stirrups are even and walks you through exactly how to use the reins to navigate your horse. They do give you saddle bags if you need to carry sunscreen (highly recommended during summer trips!) and of course any snacks/water you might need. Pro tip : apply your sunscreen pre ride and I DO NOT RECOMMEND RIDING WITHOUT JEANS. It gets hot and very bumpy (ouch!!) Margaret led us on the most beautiful tour EVER. She's super friendly and knowledgeable about the horses and the history of New Mexico. The horses are all very well trained and I'm excited to bring my niece and nephew to experience a wonderful ride with Margaret!! Thank you so very much for making our experience super stellar!

We stop for photo-ops and snow play. Our guests frequently see deer, elk, bunny rabbits, and other wildlife, and it’s not uncommon to see hawks or a Golden or Bald Eagle.

Bundle up and enjoy the view!

Private tours can also be arranged. Tours typically last just under an hour.

Fly fishing in the southern rockies.

High Country Anglers

Fly fishing is a great way to spend your time getting closer to nature. Local expert guides like Doc Thompson & High Country Anglers have been in business for over 25 years. You’ll be in good hands as Doc was named as Guide of the Year in 2006 and a finalist in 2017. Choose from multiple streams within the area including the Cimarron River, Red River or even the finicky and more challenging Rio Grande.

For the most fulfilling first-time fly-fishing excursion, there are 3 miles of private waters within the Cimarron River. The river is known for having the healthiest brown trout in New Mexico. There are about 4,000 of these fish ranging in size from 12-14 inches. The river is also periodically stocked with rainbow trout. Expect average sizes of rainbow trout between 10-14 inches. Doc provides half-day or full-day guided fishing trips.
