Strapped to the Mars Perseverance rover's belly for the journey to Mars was a technology demonstration — the Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity, which completed 72 historic flights and became the first aircraft to achieve powered, controlled flight on another planet.

On April 19, 2021, NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter made history when it completed the first powered, controlled flight on the Red Planet. It flew for the last time on January 18, 2024.   Designed to be a technology demonstration that would make no more than five test flights in 30 days, the helicopter eventually completed 72 flights in just under 3 years, soaring higher and faster than previously imagined. Ingenuity embarked on a new mission as an operations demonstration, serving as an aerial scout for scientists and rover planners, and for engineers ready to learn more about Perseverance’s landing gear debris. In its final phase, the helicopter entered a new engineering demonstration phase where it executed experimental flight tests that further expanded the team’s knowledge of the vehicle’s aerodynamic limits.

The Real Housewives of Miami  mom made the claim during a recent appearance on  the Viall Files podcast , revealing where she and Larsa stand after their intense fallout  in Season 6. Guerdy confessed she didn't know what the future had in store but was optimistic about her relationship with Larsa, as they've remained on “decent” terms since the Season 6 reunion. 

“We were friends,” she said in the April 18 episode. “We’ll see. The future looks bright. We hugged it out at the reunion. Today, we’re decent. There’s no bad blood at all.”

Guerdy and Larsa's feud escalated in Season 6, Episode 3, in which the former revealed her  breast cancer diagnosis . Guerdy shared the information during a one-on-one sitdown with Larsa, who agreed to keep the diagnosis under wraps. But just six hours after the emotional conversation, Larsa began informing her friends about Guerdy's health issues.

Although Guerdy had already shared her diagnosis with  Adriana De Moura ,  Julia Lemigova , and  Nicole Martin , she said she chose to inform Larsa as part of a “test.”

“The only person that I knew would sing like a canary would be someone like Larsa. OK?” she said during the November 15, 2023, episode. “I tested someone because I knew they couldn’t keep their mouth shut… I was testing someone, and the person failed bigly."

During her  Viall Files  appearance, Guerdy insisted she and Larsa were “trying to start fresh," but she wanted her castmate to prove her loyalty not through her words, but through her actions.

“Love is love, no matter how you look at it,” she said about the romance. “If you look at it from that perspective, I don’t care what the relationship kinks are. If they really love each other, they’re gonna be together and you gotta respect that… You should see them together. I definitely think that they have love for each other. I support love.”

Guerdy Abraira reflects on her breast cancer journey

Guerdy announced her breast cancer diagnosis in a March 2023 Instagram post and chose to document her journey on social media. The renowned event planner provided regular health updates on Instagram and spoke candidly about the physical and emotional toll of chemotherapy. But despite her struggles, Guerdy remained resilient and optimistic throughout the battle and confirmed she was cancer-free in November 2023.

The Miami mom reflected on all the support she received over the past year and said she was especially thankful for all the lessons she learned along the way.

“There were a lot of lonely, dark times in that bed during the chemo, for sure,” she told podcast host Nick. “But I learned to really appreciate myself and the people around me, and I learned to trim by tribe, by the way. Your tribe is your vibe. So I realized a lot of shit was not serving me and you gotta release what no longer serves you. So that’s what I did and I’m really selfish now… Learn how to say no. Are you munching throughout the day out of stress or boredom which is derailing your weight loss journey here are signs..

Food nourishes you and provides you with energy to do your daily tasks and maintain well-being. It also provides you comfort when you are stressed and triggers release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin which boost mood and reduce stress. While mindfully eating a balanced and nutritious diet can improve your wellness, emotional eating on the other hand can make you overeat and impact your fitness routine, raising risk of obesity and other chronic diseases. When eating emotionally, people consume food in response to their feelings rather than hunger cues which can provide temporary comfort but in long run such eating pattern can have negative impact on physical and emotional well-being. Eating something when you are hungry can help meet the body's caloric and nutritional needs but many a time, out of stress we keep munching something or the other to find temporary relief and help cope with complex emotions. Dr Smruti Hindaria, Consultant Cardiac surgeon at Ruby Hall Clinic Pune shares 5 signs of emotional eating in an interview with HT Digital.

1. Frequent consumption of unhealthy snacks: If the workplace environment is filled with junk food and fast food options, and you find yourself regularly indulging in these snacks during coffee breaks or snack breaks, it could indicate emotional snacking rather than genuine hunger.

2. High intake of calories, sugars, and saturated fats: If your snack choices are consistently high in calories, sugars, and saturated fats, it may indicate that you're using food to cope with emotions rather than nourishing your body.

3. Lack of discipline in eating habits: If there's a lack of discipline in your eating habits, such as irregular meal timing, portion control issues, or difficulty resisting unhealthy snacks, it could suggest that emotions are driving your eating behaviour rather than nutritional needs.

4. Seeking comfort in food: Emotional snacking often involves seeking comfort in food to deal with stress, boredom, or other emotions. If you find yourself turning to snacks as a coping mechanism rather than addressing underlying emotions or stressors, it could be derailing your weight loss efforts.

'My heart is breaking,' says Nimisha Priya’s mother as she begins journey to Yemen

Kochi: “My heart is breaking, but there is some peace from within. It’s been a long time and we struggled a lot, but at least now I can go,” said Premakumari when asked about her travel to see her daughter, Nimisha Priya, who has been sentenced to death and is languishing in a prison in Yemen.

Premakumari, along with Samuel Jerome, a member of the Save Nimishipriya International Action Council, is departing from Kochi on Saturday morning. They will arrive in Mumbai and then depart for Aden via a Yemenia Airways flight at 5 pm. Notably, this is not a regular passenger flight, as there is a restriction on travel to Yemen from India due to the civil war there. This flight primarily transports Yemeni citizens for medical treatment and other purposes, and passengers like Premakumari and Jerome will only be able to travel when the flight returns to Yemen.

A day or two after arriving in Aden, which is under the control of the Yemeni government, Premakumari and Jerome will travel to Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, which is 400 kilometres away and under the control of the rebels. Nimisha Priya is lodged in the jail there. Their primary objective upon reaching Sanaa is to meet Nimisha Priya. Subsequently, they plan to meet with the family and tribal leaders of the deceased Yemeni citizen. They are considering seeking pardon from the family of the deceased, along with the Yemeni people in general, and pleading for Nimisha Priya’s release.

If the family accepts her apology and the blood money, the path to Nimisha Priya’s release will be clearer. Samuel Jerome had previously stated that discussions are ongoing in this regard. Due to the ongoing civil war in Yemen, India does not have official diplomatic relations with the current regime. Consequently, the Indian embassy operates in Djibouti. Both the embassy and the Save Nimisha Priya Action Council are leading the negotiations in Yemen.

In 2017, Nimisha Priya was sentenced to death for the murder of Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi. She reached Yemen to work as a nurse with her husband. During her time there, Nimisha Priya became acquainted with Abdo Mahdi while working at a clinic. They later planned to establish a health clinic together, and Nimisha Priya and her husband entrusted all their savings to Abdo Mahdi. Initially polite and gentle, Abdo Mahdi allegedly began spreading rumours that Nimisha Priya was his wife and eventually coerced her into marriage after threatening her.

Subsequently, Nimisha Priya alleges that she endured severe mental and physical abuse, including the confiscation of her passport. She claims that her life was threatened, prompting her to escape with her passport after injecting Abdo Mahdi with sedative drugs. However, Abdo Mahdi’s dismembered body was later discovered in a tank above the house where the couple resided. Despite Nimisha Priya’s assertion of innocence and lack of knowledge regarding the murder, the trial court convicted her. Despite appealing to higher courts, including the Supreme Court, her appeals were rejected, and the death sentence was upheld.

We traveled from Canada to Seattle by ferry with a car for $150. After 5 ½ hours, I wished I'd just left my vehicle at home.

• I travel between Canada and the US often, and I recently took a route that used a car ferry.
• With two passengers and a car, the trip cost about $150, and it took about five and a half hours. 
• I don't necessarily think having your car adds to the trip, so I'd take a passenger boat next time. 

Nearly 400,000 people travel between Canada and the US daily, and one of the best parts of living in Victoria, British Columbia, is its relative proximity to the state of Washington.

It's common for locals to spend a weekend in Seattle to catch a sports game, see a concert, or do some cross-border shopping.

But even though the cities are pretty close, getting there can be a headache if you don't know what you're doing. Victoria, BC , is located on an island, so unless you're flying, you'll need to take a boat.

Under ideal conditions, traveling there with your car takes at least four to five hours. But when you factor in ferry times, potential delays due to weather, border wait times , traffic, and stopping for gas, it can easily become an eight-hour journey.

Recently, a friend and I took the car ferry from Victoria to Vancouver in order to get to Seattle. Here's how it went, and what you need to know before booking a trip.

There are several options for getting to mainland Washington from Victoria, BC.

The Victoria Clipper offers the fastest direct route between Victoria and Seattle, but it's a passenger-only ferry.

If you want to take your vehicle, you'll either need to take the Blackball "Coho" Ferry to Port Angeles, Washington, or BC Ferries to Vancouver and drive two to three hours to Seattle.

On our way, we wanted to stop at Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip, Washington (about an hour outside of Seattle). And since we'd be stateside, we'd have the opportunity to stop at Trader Joe's to stock up on our favorite American snacks.

Having a car would make both pit stops easier, so we decided to book tickets on BC Ferries.

Tickets vary depending on your vehicle, the number of passengers, and their ages. Vehicles under 20 feet cost 67.40 Canadian dollars, or about $49, each way. But that cost doesn't include the driver or any other passengers.

Adult fares are 19.10 CAD each way, so our total for one way on the ferry was 105.6 CAD.

If you’re traveling on a weekend, make a reservation and get there early.

Since we were taking our car, we needed to factor in the driving time to the ferry dock in Swartz Bay, located about 30 to 45 minutes outside of Victoria.

BC Ferries serves travelers from all around Vancouver Island and the lower mainland of British Columbia. Weekends are typically busy, and popular sailings can sell out.

Traffic is also busier on the weekends , so give yourself plenty of time and arrive at least 30 minutes in advance.

I recommend booking a reservation online to guarantee your spot on a specific sailing. Reservations cost an extra 20 CAD, but I think it's well worth it.

Even if you have a ferry reservation, know that there's a chance your ferry can get canceled or delayed due to weather conditions — forcing you to take the next sailing in one or two hours.

There are gorgeous views throughout the ride, which made up for the lack of Wi-Fi.

One of the things I love about taking the 90-minute boat from Victoria to Vancouver is the incredible scenery and ocean views . If the weather is decent, I recommend sitting outside.

There are picturesque islands covered in lush forests, and you may even spot a pod of whales or dolphins if you're lucky.

But if you plan on catching up on your favorite shows, download content before the ferry departs. There were no Wi-Fi options on board.

Since mobile reception is also spotty, I used the trip to catch up on work using offline apps and take in the scenery.

There’s a restaurant on the ferry, and it's actually decent.

The onboard cafeteria offers everything from coffee and desserts to local specialties, like Nanaimo bars (a classic BC layered treat) and White Spot burgers.

Surprisingly, I don't mind the ferry food, even though it tends to be pretty expensive. If you're not sure what to get, skip the prepackaged salads and get the poutine.

At about 7 to 8 CAD, it's one of the cheapest things on the menu, and it's tasty and filling.

But if you don't want to deal with lines or crowds, you should bring your own meals.

There's pretty much always a line at the cafeteria — on my last trip, I waited 30 minutes to order a burger and a Diet Coke. The dining area is also jam-packed with fellow travelers and has the vibe of a crowded mall food court at sea.

The arrival process is pretty straightforward.

The crew makes an announcement asking passengers to return to their cars 15 minutes before docking. That's when I usually sneak in a last-minute trip to the restroom before heading down to the car deck.

We spent about 10 minutes in the car waiting for the boat to dock before driving off.

We made our way to the Peace Arch Border Crossing.

The ship docks in Tsawwassen, a small town outside of Vancouver, and it's about a 40-minute drive to the Canada-US border.

This drive always gives me anxiety because you can't predict how long the wait will be.

We were lucky and only had to wait about 20 minutes on this trip. But hours-long queues at the border are common, especially if there's a special event happening in Seattle like a Taylor Swift concert or a Mariner's game.

If possible, avoid driving into Seattle during rush hour.

Traffic jams are also common on what should be a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the border crossing to Seattle, especially as you get closer to the city.

There have been previous trips where it's taken me four hours because I got stuck in a gridlock, so I always do my best to avoid getting there anywhere near rush hour.

We opted to stay overnight in Seattle.

It's technically possible to go to Seattle for the day via the car ferry, but we wanted more than a few hours in the city before turning around and catching the last ferry home at 10 p.m .

On this trip, we booked a one-night stay at The Edgewater — an iconic Seattle hotel with a storied history of hosting legendary musicians like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pearl Jam.

Our room cost 329 CAD, and we loved the incredible waterside views, the central location, and the easy car access.

I kind of wish I didn't have my car in Seattle.

Since we stayed in downtown Seattle, we were within walking distance of Pike Place Market , the Nordstrom flagship store, and buzzy dining options in Belltown.

We also spent an afternoon exploring the trendy Capitol Hill neighborhood, located a 10-minute drive from downtown. But we ended up taking an Uber because we knew it'd be easier than finding our own parking on the weekend.

The city has a public transit system that includes a light rail, a monorail, and streetcars, so it's pretty easy to get around without a car.

When I compare the time and money spent, I wish I’d left the car at home.

In addition to the roundtrip ferry fare (with corresponding fees and taxes), my friend and I spent about 82 CAD on gas, bringing our total transport costs for the weekend trip to 323 CAD, not including the hotel stay .

I've taken the Victoria Clipper passenger ferry to Seattle for past trips, and although it's more expensive (344 CAD per adult, roundtrip), I found it to be a much more relaxing experience.

Our car-ferry journey took about five and a half hours, start to finish. But on the passenger ferry, I've boarded the boat at 5 p.m. and made it to my Seattle hotel by 8:15 p.m.

As a single woman who'd rather spend her weekend exploring one of her favorite cities than sitting in traffic, the passenger ferry is my preferred mode of transportation.

With that said, the car ferry has its advantages.

If you're traveling as a family or group, it's considerably cheaper than the passenger ferry. A roundtrip for a family of four on BC Ferries costs around 231 CAD, whereas the same trip on the Victoria Clipper would be around 866 CAD.

Additionally, if you plan on doing a lot of shopping or any outdoor activities outside of Seattle, it usually makes sense to have a car.
