VIP Topdecker: 13 Topdeck Trips 👑
We found out that one of our topdeckers has been on 13 TOPDECK TRIPS . What a bloody legend. So, we had to reach out and see what makes Kevin keep comin back…
Tell us about your love for travelling?
“As soon as I flew into Rome for my first Topdeck ( Delve Deep: Italy ) I knew I was hooked! Nothing compares to dropping yourself into the middle of a place you’ve read about or seen on TV or in the movies a million times and actually getting to explore it all.
Even the fanciest HD screen can’t compete with seeing the Sistine Chapel with your own eyes , hearing the splashing of the Trevi fountain as the surface is pelted with coins, and especially tasting the gelato for yourself ! ”
Tell us about some of the Topdeck trips you’ve been on? 🌍
IG: @nivekious
“It’s a long list! In Europe I did Delve Deep: Italy and Delve Deep: Britain and Ireland on my first trip. I went back down south for the New Zealand trip and also visited Asia for the first time on Delve Deep: Japan . This year I’ve done even more of Europe with Delve Deep: Iceland (Topdeck’s first post-pandemic trip!), Delve Deep: Spain and Portugal , and Delve Deep: Spain, Portugal, and Morocco . So a bit of Africa there too on that last one!”
We wanna know what makes you keep coming back?
“I’d say the biggest thing that brings me back to Topdeck is the people . I’ve made some really good friends on my Topdeck tours, some of whom I’ve since travelled to visit, shown around my own city, run into randomly in other countries, or even done additional Topdecks with!
I was a little anxious about travelling on my own before my first trip, but I realized as soon as I started my tour that many of us were in the same boat and we were all like-minded people excited to see the world! ”
What is it about our trip style that you like?
“I like that Topdeck gives me the opportunity to visit some out of the way places and experience the local culture in ways I couldn’t have on my own or with other tour companies. I’ve gotten to stay in a Maori Marae in New Zealand and a Buddhist monastery in Japan, and see smaller quieter towns in Europe like Lucca in Italy and Mostar in Bosnia that became some of my favorites. I love that Topdeck spends a few days in a lot of the bigger cities we visit and gives me free time to explore on my own . There’s just too much to see to get it all done in one day in most places and being able to split up and check out whatever I’m most interested in with a few others from the group instead of all having to follow one itinerary is great!”
Are you gonna make it to 14? Which trip is on your radar ✈️
“Definitely, I’m not planning to stop any time soon! I’ve been eyeing both the Egypt and Turkey tours for a few years now. I always loved learning about ancient civilizations back in school and getting to see the Pyramids of Giza or the Hagia Sophia in person would just be unreal! But I may also wait a little longer on those to do Vietnam/Cambodia and Thailand first. I haven’t seen much of Asia yet, and I really loved my Japan tour , so I’d love to go back and explore that region”.
Wanna be as well travelled as Kevin? Whether it’s your first or thirteenth trip, you’ll always find something new travelling with us.

Beautiful places ….
If it weren’t for the beautiful places I’m visiting on this tour, I would be having one of the worst experiences ever. Don’t get me wrong, I’m used to being a solo traveller, but when you feel like you’re being deliberately left out … it’s an issue. An issue that I shouldn’t have when I’m on a group tour! I particularly dislike having to spend solo days because it’s impossible not to feel left out. This tour has been particularly unkind which is a shame because the places I’ve been and experiences Ive had ( galleries, museums etc) are some of the best in the world. I just think they missed the mark .,,.. once you feel left out it’s exceptionally hard to feel anything else.

Topdeck customer service is poor
Topdeck customer service is poor. They do not accommodate you if cancellations are made due to weather- you are left to cover this expense. They book you cheap and dirty hotels that are not worth the cost of the tour. You can do the same itinerary for half the price and have an enjoyable comfortable stay in decent hotels. Rip off!!!

Unscrupulous and uncaring company
My daughter had a holiday booked for June with Topdeck. This was cancelled due to coronavirus and she is being told that they have retrospectively changed their terms of business so she cannot have a refund, just a travel voucher. She has been laid off from work and badly needs her money back but Topdeck seemed unconcerned with the emotional and financial pain they are causing their customers. My daughter was not asked to agree to the new terms, which are against all guidance from various travel bodies. Topdeck is an unscrupulous and uncaring company.

Never again!
I booked the Hawaii tour for April which have now been cancelled due to Corona They are refusing to provide me with a refund even when it is a clear breach of their terms and conditions and just keep regurgitating the same information when I contacted them They are taking advantage at a time like this

Amazing Experience!
I booked my first Topdeck tour a few months ago to travel as a solo female to New Zealand. It was one of the best trips I have ever been on. The itinerary was thoughtful, the guides were fun and knowledgeable, and it was a great crew. It would have been extremely difficult for me to see as many places as I did if I had rented a car and driven on my own. Will definitely book again!

LIED ABOUT GUARANTEED REFUNDS COVID19
I am extremely disappointed in Topdeck. My first ever trip a few years ago was amazing that I convinced my friend to go on a Europe tour with me in April. Before international travel was even banned I chased up topdeck for weeks asking what would happen if it was cancelled. They sent me a message saying it most likely wouldn’t be cancelled but on the off chance that it was I would get a full refund. Two days later they cancelled all April trips. I am now being told that won’t be honoured even though I showed them the message. This is absolutely disgusting and appalling to think a company can be this heartless during a crisis like this and go back on their word. Not only did they cancel our trip and won’t refund us. If we accept the voucher we have a limited time to use it and we have to pay extra for any difference in price. We have no job so no income, and all our savings went into this trip which topdeck now won’t refund us.

People giving negative feedback because of covid haven't even been on tour.
Just been on tour without any issues. The reviews about covid don't reflect the quality of tours actually happening. 😎

Middle East: Is it safe to travel to holiday destinations as tension escalates?
Are you going to Turkey, Egypt or Israel on holiday? The Foreign Office has warned travellers to several countries to monitor advice after an Iranian attack on Israel pushed tension in the Middle East up another notch.
Thursday 18 April 2024 08:13, UK
Tension in the Middle East has ratcheted up again after Iran's attack on Israel, as the world waits to see how Benjamin Netanyahu's government will respond.
With the threat of widening conflict, people due to travel through or over the Middle East may be asking if their plans may be impacted.
On Saturday, flight data showed dozens of journeys that would have travelled over the Middle East turned back after Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles into Israel .
Here is what airlines are saying and the latest safety advice to travellers.
EasyJet scraps Tel Aviv flights
EasyJet has suspended all flights to Tel Aviv over safety concerns.
The budget airline told Sky News it has grounded its flights until 27 October at the earliest "as a result of the continued evolving situation" in the region.
Wizz Air customers could see schedule changes
Wizz Air cancelled flights to Tel Aviv on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 April before resuming its schedule.
But it said customers could experience schedule changes as it closely monitors the situation.
British Airways operating as normal
British Airways - which operates four daily return flights per week between Heathrow and Tel Aviv - said its flights were continuing to operate as planned, but it too was monitoring the situation.
Is it safe to travel to Turkey?
Turkey is a popular holiday destination for people from the UK with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism saying that last year 3.16 million Britons made the journey there, according to Travel Weekly.
Yet, it borders a number of countries that the Foreign Office advises against travel to.
The vast majority of the country is considered generally safe for tourists, with some exceptions.
The Foreign Office advises against all travel within 10km of the border with Syria , and all but essential travel to the Sirnak and Hakkari provinces.
Is it safe to travel to Israel?
Some parts of Israel are considered "red zones" by the Foreign Office, with the government advising against all travel there.
For the rest of the country - including East Jerusalem and Tel Aviv - the advice is to travel only if it is essential.
Tourist Israel says around 220,000 Britons usually go to the country every year and the Foreign Office is advising against travel close to the border with Gaza, within 5km of the border with Lebanon and within 500m of the border with Syria.
You can see the full updated list of "red zones" on the Foreign Office advice pages.
Occupied Palestinian territories
The Foreign Office advises against all travel to Gaza and the West Bank.
Don't travel to Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon or Syria - Foreign Office
The Foreign Office advises against all travel to Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.
It advises against all travel to Iraq except to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), where it advises against all but "essential travel".
Can I safely go on holiday in Egypt?
The main tourist areas in Egypt are generally considered safe, including the capital Cairo, cities along the Nile and Red Sea resorts.
Over 1.5 million British Nationals visit Egypt every year, according to analysts Gitnux, and the areas the Foreign Office warns not to travel to include the Governorate of North Sinai, where the Rafah crossing to Gaza is located, and within 20km of the border with Libya.

Check advice on other Middle East states before you travel
Following Iran's attack on Israel, the Foreign Office issued a warning relating to several countries in the surrounding area, telling travellers to check for the latest information.
Included in this are popular destinations like Dubai (visited by more than a million Britons last year according to Travel Weekly) and Marrakech.
"On 13 April 2024 Iran carried out military action against Israel. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast," the FCDO said in a statement.
The countries covered by the warning include Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Jordan and Oman.
Anywhere else of concern?
Cyprus is near the region and has a large UK airbase but, as yet, there is no change in travel advice to the popular country.

Top 6: Philadelphia Mediterranean spots - Part 2
In this week's Top 6, Jessica Boyington's tour through the Mediterranean landed her smack in the middle of Turkey and Greece.
The cuisine was freshly prepared, healthy and guilt-free, and much cheaper than a plane ticket.
Stop by Kanella, a BYOB on Spruce Street for Turkish cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. Spring for a spread of classic dips with warm pita and a Kabob platter of Falafel, Ground lamb, or Ribeye. Whether you dine in with a group or take it to go, your palate will appreciate the fresh ingredients and intricate preparation.
What I loved:
-Hummus (with chili oil)
-Halloumi (with apricots, dates, walnuts)
-Ribeye Kabob Platter
Zorbas Tavern has been sitting on Fairmount Ave for the last 27 years! This neighborhood gem is family-owned, and award-winning for their Greek cuisine. The restaurant has recently received its liquor license, and although you can still bring your personal wine for a corkage fee...I wouldn't bother, because they now offer Greek wines and liquors that you can't get anywhere else. Grab some classic gyros for lunch or a giant dinner sampler with Greek sausages, chicken, and their famous lemon potatoes.
-Cold Combo Dips (Tzatziki, Taramosalata, Skordalia, Melitzanosalata, Kopanisti, Hummus and Dolmades with Pita Bread.)
-Grilled Octopus
-Saganaki (it's lit on fire right in front of you!)
