  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Departure:  Earls Court Underground Station
  • Departure Time: 9:50 AM
  • Includes:  Entrance to Windsor Castle,  Windsor Castle multimedia guide, r ound-trip transportation from London by luxury bus

This is one of the most popular tours from London, and if you’re in the city looking for an educational, fun tour this one is hard to beat. The From London: Half-Day Trip to Windsor with Castle Tickets packs a ton in while still making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.

If you’re looking to explore Windsor Castle and get some fresh air walking around the grounds, take a good look here!

There are various central London meetup points, ensuring it’s as convenient as possible for you. Choose the one that works best for you and head out west on a bus tour in the morning. If you have London plans in the evening, this won’t conflict at all!

The bus is quite comfortable, with nice, big windows to see the beautiful city and landscape views as you head to the historic town of Windsor.

Once you and the rest of your group arrive, you’ll be taken through and told all about the Queen’s official residence. There’s no need to rush, either – they make sure you can take it at your own pace.

From the Norman Invasion and its origins to present-day relevance, you’ll practically be an expert on the castle! The history is obviously very interesting, but the castle and surrounding area itself is also quite beautiful!

We highly recommend heading to the left once exiting the castle to take the “long walk”. It’s a great way to also get away for a moment from the hustle-and-bustle of lively London.

Considering the convenience and ability to learn so much with this model of tour, it’s surprising how affordable this one runs for. With such an accommodating, knowledgeable, attentive guide, it feels like a good friend is just taking you and showing you around Windsor!

3. best budget tour: royal windsor afternoon tour from london.

  • Duration: 7 hours
  • Departure: Evan Evans Office 258 Vauxhall Bridge Road
  • Departure Time:  1:00 PM
  • Includes:   Entry to Windsor Castle,  English-speaking guide, a  personal audio headset, audio guide in various languages, w i-fi

Not everyone needs or wants a tour that will fit into busier schedules. Some want to pack in as much as possible, and don’t mind taking longer tours to do so. If that sounds like you, check out the London: Royal Windsor Afternoon Tour from London .

This 7-hour tour is led by a professional tour guide, who is undoubtedly knowledgeable and there to ensure you have a great time. The English-speaking guide will take you through the historic Windsor so you can explore the castle, see the famous St. George’s Chapel, and more.

Starting out as a Saxon village, it’s thought to have been inhabited from approximately 700 AD – as you can imagine there are quite a few stories to tell about the area.

Meet up at Evan Evans Office in London and head out to Windsor. We found the vehicles to be smooth, and the driver to be very safe and attentive.

Once you arrive to this beautiful countryside location, you’ll get to see the river, stroll about its cobbled streets, and explore its charming little tea rooms, shops, and more as your guide offers an intriguing commentary on its background.

After getting to know the town a bit, you’ll head over to the infamous Windsor Castle. It’s hard to miss, and you may have even caught a glimpse of it already as it rises high above the rest of the town.

Having been the ancestral home of the royal family for almost a thousand years, there are countless stories to learn about it.

The architecture alone is quite stunning, but the interior is really going to make your jaw drop. Take a tour through the state apartments, where all kinds of significant icons throughout history have laid their heads.

On the walls hang some of the most important pieces of art by legendary artists as well, and were luckily saved during a more recent fire.

You’ll then see St. George’s Chapel, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed in 2018. However, it’s been around a lot longer than that: since 1528! It’s also the resting place of various monarchs.

4. Best Luxury Tour: Private Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath from London

  • Duration: 12 hours
  • Departure: Various departure points (round-trip transportation offered)
  • Departure Time: 8:30 AM
  • Includes: Bottled water, professional guide, hotel pickup and drop-off, private tour, transport by private vehicle, fuel surcharge

Next up, we bring you our longest tour and one that will take you all over some of the most legendary places in the country. You’ll not only get to see Windsor Castle, but many other points of interest!

The Private Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath from London tour will check a lot of boxes on your bucket list, and do so in one of the most convenient ways possible!

Start off by being picked up in a luxury, air-conditioned vehicle and head straight to Eton College, which is known as being the private school of choice for the royal family of the United Kingdom.

Commissioned over 500 years ago by King Henry VIII, it’s still one of the top choices for schools for some of the most powerful families on the planet.

Next, is Windsor Castle, where you’ll get to see the Royal Guards, inside the history of the castle, the courtyards, and even St. George’s Chapel. Your guide will take you through all the interesting nooks and crannies, and to the most iconic parts, as well.

Now, it’s over to both Woodhenge and Stonehenge. Woodhenge is an ancient Neolithic wooden monument built very close to Stonehenge in approximately 2500 BC. You’ll learn about why it’s so important, both throughout the years and present-day.

Hop on over to Stonehenge and your guide will also fill you in on the history behind this 5,000-year-old wonder, explore the visitor center, and take some photos!

After all this adventuring, you’re sure to have worked up an appetite. Sneak in a fantastic traditional pub lunch of fish and chips or sip on a traditional English tea.

Head on over to the beautiful, enthralling town of Bath which is filled with jaw-droppingly intricate architecture and a unique history. There’s some great shopping and dining here, and if you’d like you can also enter the infamous Roman Bath house!

5. Best Small Group Tour: Private Windsor Castle And Eton Tour

  • Duration: 6 to 7 hours
  • Departure: Various pickup spots available
  • Departure Time:  9:00 AM
  • Includes:  Hotel pickup and drop-off, private tour, transport by private vehicle, driver/guide, professional guide

This tour is a crowd favorite, due to the time being easy to fit into the daytime while being able to tend to London plans in the evening. The Private Windsor Castle and Eton Tour lasts anywhere from 6 to 7 hours, depending on traffic and other factors.

Offered in 10 different languages, this is a comprehensive tour that will have you avoiding the large group tours that can be harder to learn or see the interesting points with.

You and the rest of your group will be picked up in central London, in a comfortable, spacious vehicle with air conditioning. The trip is quite scenic and your guide/driver will tell you interesting stories about the route as well as Windsor so you have a good background before arriving.

Starting out in the historic center of the town, you’ll check out hidden passages that connect the castle to certain pubs! You’ll see the famous “crooked house”, and even see the rear part of the castle that many visitors don’t get to see.

Next, you’ll see the more common, “touristy” parts of the castle though you’ll get to skip the long lines and just enter.

You’ll be able to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony, the amazing apartments inside where many important figures have stayed, artwork by some of the most famous artists throughout history, and much more.

You’ll also see St. George’s Chapel, which has been transformed into a royal wedding venue various times, and even holds the tombs of Henry VIII, Charles I, George VI, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and many others. The architecture itself is beautiful, and an excellent example of late medieval Gothic architecture.

If you’d like, you can stroll across the River Thames into Eton – home of Eton College. We’ve already covered quite a bit about this college, but we do recommend checking it out.

6. Best Day Tour: Windsor Castle Tour from London with Lunch

  • Duration: 6.5 hours
  • Departure:  Victoria Coach Station, Victoria Coach Station, 164 Buckingham Palace Rd
  • Departure Time: 7:30 AM
  • Includes: One-course pub lunch, professional guide, transport by air-conditioned coach

Exploring and learning can really take a lot out of you, and what better way to take a tour then have one with a delicious lunch included to break up the walking? The Windsor Castle Tour from London with Lunch is exactly that, and more.

You’ll be able to see Windsor Castle, St. George’s Chapel, and other points of interest in one of the most convenient ways possible.

You and the rest of your group will meet at Victoria Coach Station bright and early, at 7:30 am. The 6.5-hour tour is great, because you’ll be in London in time for dinner or any other plans you may have.

The air-conditioned coach is very easy to relax in, with nice, big windows that are great for checking out the countryside as you travel to the historic town of Windsor.

As you head over, your guide will tell your group all about the castle, as well as any other notable places you may encounter.

If you don’t already know about it, you’ll learn about how it plays a very important role in British history and was originally built by William the Conqueror over 900 years ago.

It is one of the Queen’s official residences, and she sometimes still stays here so there’s always the chance she’ll be “in residence” while you explore around. Make sure to check out St. George’s Chapel as well, which is an incredible piece of Gothic architecture and holds the tombs of various monarchs.

Take some time to walk around the town of Windsor at your own pace. Set right next to the Thames, it’s absolutely beautiful, with charming little shops, pubs, and delicious food. Speaking of which, you’ll have lunch here at a pub with some traditional fish and chips!

7. Best Guided Tour: Afternoon Trip London to Windsor Castle

  • Departure: Various options available
  • Departure Time: 11:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM, 1:00 PM,
  • Includes:  Hotel Pickup and drop-off, transport by private vehicle, audio guides, admission tickets, 2 hours of viewing time at Windsor

Are you on the search for a more compact tour? One that will pack as much in as possible but still allows you to fit it into a busy schedule? If so, the Afternoon Trip London to Windsor Castle should catch your eye!

With hotel pickup and drop-off offered, you don’t even have to spend time getting to a station or central pickup spot! However, it’s important to keep in mind that this is a self-guided tour, with groups of up to 8 passengers.

Due to this design, it’s one of the best in terms of flexibility and is also a very comfortable way of getting out of the city and seeing this piece of history that’s still relevant today.

Do you ever feel rushed by tour guides? Now you won’t have to, as you can truly check out Windsor Castle at your own pace.

The audio guide is available in multiple languages and takes you through the State Apartments, St. George’s Chapel, Queen May’s Doll’s House, and much more!

Not only that, but this tour comes with tickets that allow you to bypass the lines which can save you around an hour!

We felt that this was a great experience for families, partners, and friends as you can talk amongst yourselves without interrupting a tour guide. Not to mention, with the smaller group sizes you’ll simply be able to move around easier and see more!

It also lets you choose how you want to spend your time, whether that’s in a certain wing of the castle or outdoors.

Are you going stir-crazy yet? Losing track of the days? Refreshing the news at a rapid-fire pace? Engaging in a daily self-debate about whether or not to get dressed?

There’s no doubt about it: These are unfamiliar, unprecedented times. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to take the edge off: finally visit that museum or national park that’s been sitting on your bucket list, tune in to an opera or Broadway musical , ooh and aww at adorable wildlife , walk over 825 miles of beach in Florida , or even vacation in Japan – all without leaving home.

Now, you can escape your cooped-up space once again — even if for a brief moment — with a virtual tour of Windsor Castle in England. You may recognize its stunning exterior if you stayed up all night to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding , but here’s your chance to get an inside peek behind the curtains.

This digital tour brings viewers inside the State Banquet in St. George’s Hall, the Waterloo Chamber, and the Crimson Drawing Room — each one more opulent than the next, with chandeliers, gilded ceilings, and rich tapestries and paintings. Zoom in and out of each space to make yourself at home, then click on information icons for even more details.

At more than 900 years old, the 11th-century fortress serves as the Queen’s private home (usually on weekends) as well as a royal residence where she performs many formal duties. It’s also the place where Her Majesty hosts visiting monarchs and presidents — and where she and Prince Philip are presently self-isolating amid the coronavirus outbreak.

And Windsor Castle isn’t the only place where you can walk in the footsteps of royalty without getting off your couch — a number of famous European castles , from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Versailles, are offering virtual tours fit for a king or queen, too.

Virtual Tour of Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle

Are you feeling cooped up or going stir crazy? Now, you can quarantine with Queen Elizabeth, via a virtual tour of the UNESCO-listed Windsor Castle. Or relive the wedding of retired royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Windsor Castle has been a royal residence and fortress for almost 1000 years. The castle has seen countless royal births, deaths, and marriages. It’s withstood battles and sieges.

History of Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle was originally a fortress for Saxon kings. In the 11th century, William the Conqueror used it to form a defensive ring outside of London, along with 8 other castles. It was conveniently just a day’s march from the Tower of London .

Windsor Castle as envisaged in 1216 (Royal Collection Trust/Bob Marshall)

Henry I was the first king began to occupy Windsor Castle. Henry II later built it into a proper royal fortress with formidable stone walls. Edward III completed its transformation into a Gothic royal palace.

Royal Chapel

Queen Elizabeth I got busy too. She added what is now the Royal Library. George IV renovated the entire palace. And Queen Victoria added a private chapel and rebuilt the Grand Staircase.

Windsor Castle is also home to one of the most beautiful Gothic chapels in the world, St. George’s Chapel. Edward IV began construction and Henry VIII finished it in 1528. The chapel has been the scene of many royal weddings. It’s also a royal mausoleum, with 10 monarchs buried there, including Henry VIII.

Art Collection

Windsor Castle has an impressive art collection too, with works by Rembrandt, Canaletto, Holbein, and Rubens.

It even owns drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, which are the sole extant evidence that da Vinci painted the controversial Salvator Mundi , the world’s most expensive painting ($450 million).

St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle has been the site of many historic events. It’s where the Magna Carta was signed, where Edward VIII abdicated the throne, and where Queen Victoria fell in love with Albert.

Today, Windsor Castle is the largest occupied working castle in the world. The Queen uses Windsor Castle as a private home. She often weekends there and hosts visiting monarchs and presidents at “dine and sleep” events. Now, the queen is self-isolating at Windsor Castle.

You can quarantine with the queen via the Windsor Castle virtual tour . The tour takes viewers inside the State Banquet Hall, the Waterloo Chamber, the Crimson Drawing Room, and St. George’s Chapel. The opulent rooms feature chandeliers, gilded ceilings, rich tapestries, and paintings.

the Crimson Room in Windsor Castle

On the virtual tour, you can make yourself at home in each room. You can zoom in or click on information icons for more details.

If you want to really get to know Queen Elizabeth, you can delve into her life story, with over 3,000 entries on Google Arts & Culture .

You can also take a virtual 360 tour by the BBC on YouTube, and discover some of the royals’ most valuable treasures.

Or listen to the queen herself talk about the coronavirus crisis here . If you’d need more virtual tours, here’s my guide to virtual tours of famous royal palaces in Europe .

Windsor Castle

What to see: windsor castle.

Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world, and the oldest in continuous occupation (over 900 years). It is one of the Queen’s three official residences, and is often said to be her favourite. She spends most of her private weekends at Windsor. The Royal Standard flies over the Round Tower of Windsor Castle when the Queen is in residence – at other times, the Union Jack flag flies in its place.  During Covid 19 the Queen has been in residence almost all of the time.

Samuel Pepys proclaimed the Castle to be “the most romantique castle that is in the world”. That was in 1666, and the same is still true today. A “Must Visit” destination.   [ BOOK TICKETS ]

Windsor Castle from a Distance

The origins of Windsor were in the 7th century Saxon settlement of Windlesora, where the present day village of Old Windsor is located. The town of Windsor is correctly known as “New Windsor” – the word “new” being used in a strictly relative sense!

Windsor Castle History

Windsor Castle was first built by William the Conqueror, following his invasion of England in 1066. The original structure was built from timber with earth fortifications. The Castle held an obvious strategic position on a steep hill overlooking the River Thames, and was part of a ring of castles around London, with the Tower of London, one day’s march away, at its heart.

The Castle was later rebuilt in stone, and grew in importance over the years. Henry II constructed the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the Castle’s primary role became that of a royal palace. The Castle has remained largely unchanged since the early nineteenth century, apart from the restoration work following the fire (see below).   [ BOOK TICKETS ]

The Fire at Windsor Castle

The Fire of Windsor Castle took place on 20 November 1992 – ironically the 45th wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. During work on some of the State Rooms in the castle, a fire broke out in the north-east part of the Castle and rapidly spread to engulf many rooms.

The Fire at Windsor Castle 1992

Fortunately most treasures and works of art had been removed temporarily and so few items were lost, although over 100 rooms in the Castle were badly damaged or destroyed. The fire took 250 firefighters some 15 hours to extinguish. The Castle was renovated, the aim being to restore the damaged rooms to their former glory using authentic materials and craftsmanship, and was re-opened in 1997 after five years of work. The cost of the renovation was £37 million.  More on Wikipedia .

Visiting Windsor Castle in 2022

Windsor Castle is much larger than most people realise (more than 12 acres), and it is worth allowing at least two hours for your visit. The Castle is open every day except Garter Day (One day in June every year), Easter, Christmas, and one or two other days during the year. Opening times and access may be restricted at certain times of the year due to state functions.

Changing of the Guard

The Changing of the Guard is one of the highlights of a visit to Windsor. A band usually accompanies the Guards, although this is subject to weather conditions.

The Guards can be watched as they march up the High Street and into the Castle, but to see the actual ‘changing’ ceremony you need to have paid to go into the Castle. The Ceremony takes place outside the Guardroom in the Lower Ward of the Castle. To watch the Guards march up the High Street takes only 10 minutes; to watch the actual ceremony inside the Castle takes about 30 minutes.

windsor castle online tour

The Guard March takes place all year round, dependant on the weather. The Guards march on alternate days from August to March and daily during April, May, June and July, but never on a Sunday. The schedule (see final paragraph) is set by the British Army and is subject to change.

To watch the new Guards march up the High Street you need to be positioned in the High Street at 10.50am. Once inside the Castle, the Guards change outside the Guardroom in the Lower Ward at 11.00am. The sentries are changed throughout the day. The old Guards then march back to the barracks at about 11.25am.

Please note that traffic is stopped when the guards make their way between the barracks on Sheet Street, along the High Street and into the Castle. Traffic Wardens and Police control traffic on the following approaches to the centre of town: Thames Street, the junction of Victoria Street and Sheet Street and near the junction of Frances Road and Sheet Street. Traffic is usually stopped between 10.45am and 11am (as the guards march to the Castle) and between 11.15am and 11.30am (as they return to the Barracks).

Changing the Guard takes place:

The ceremony usually takes place at 11:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but the schedule can change, check the  British Army website  for details. The guards march through Windsor town into the Castle, where the guard change takes place.

Changing of the Guard does not take place on Sunday

Provisional Schedule  (please note that this schedule is set by the British Army and is subject to change).

The Castle is a pleasure to walk around. As you proceed through the various wards and terraces, you will have excellent views of the Round Tower, of the various fortifications, and of the surrounding countryside, including Eton and the River Thames.

Saint George’s Chapel

The magnificent and beautiful St George’s Chapel was started in 1475 by Edward IV and was completed fifty years later by Henry VIII. It ranks among the finest examples of late medieval architecture (perpendicular gothic) in the UK. Ten monarchs are buried in the Chapel, including Henry VIII with his wife Jane Seymour. The Chapel is the Chapel of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Britain’s highest Order of Chivalry. The Order was founded by Edward III in 1348 and the Garter Knights are selected by the Queen. The Ceremony of the Garter takes place on 14th June 1999, and is attended by the Garter Knights, the Queen and members of the Royal Family.

The State Apartments at Windsor Castle

The  State Apartments  are lavishly decorated formal rooms still used for state and official functions. The treasures in the Apartments include works of art by Canaletto, Holbein, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Rubens and Van Dyck, as well as the ceilings and woodwork of the rooms themselves. Also on display is a large collection of armour, including an etched gold suit of armour made for prince Hal.

Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House

Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House  is an amazing dolls’ house built on a scale of 1 to 12. It contains working lifts, running water and electricity, and took 1500 craftsmen three years to complete.

The idea of creating a dolls’ house for the Queen was that of the King’s cousin, Princess Marie Louise.

After returning home from a visit to the King and Queen at Windsor Castle, during which they had shown her much kindness, Princess Marie Louise found her mother and her sister assembling a collection of miniature furniture for Queen Mary.

Queen Mary was known as a collector of miniature objects including Fabergé animals, children’s silver furniture and other examples of ‘tiny craft’. This gave Princess Marie Louise an idea. She announced to her family that she would commission a dolls’ house as a present for the Queen…

Visit Windsor Castle

The largest inhabited working castle in the world

The stunning 13-acre site is the largest and oldest occupied, working castle in the world. The reigning monarch is in residence if the flag flying from the Round Tower is the Royal Standard.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the palace's history through the special exhibitions, walk through the re-imagined childhood rooms of Queen Victoria, take a tour around the King and Queen's State Apartments, or explore the world-renowned gardens.

The castle hosts formal state events, ceremonial occasions and visits from foreign dignitaries and overseas Heads of State. Windsor castle has its own changing of the guard which has been performed since 1660.

St George’s Chapel is the home of the Order of the Garter, an annual event founded by Edward III in 1348.

Windsor Castle Highlights

One of the main highlights of a visit to Windsor Castle is the State Apartments , which are open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence. These apartments are lavishly decorated with beautiful furnishings, priceless artwork, and ornate ceilings. Visitors can admire the opulence of the Grand Reception Room, the magnificent St. George's Hall, and the impressive Waterloo Chamber, which features portraits of the Duke of Wellington and other military heroes.

Another must-see attraction is the castle's Chapel, St. George's Chapel , which is renowned for its stunning Gothic architecture. This chapel has been the site of many royal weddings and funerals, including the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018. Visitors can marvel at the intricate stonework, beautiful stained glass windows, and ornate carvings in this historic chapel.

For those interested in military history, the Changing of the Guard ceremony is a must-see event. This ceremony takes place outside the castle gates and features a procession of soldiers in their iconic red uniforms. The ceremony lasts around 30 minutes and is a great opportunity to witness British tradition and pageantry up close.

In addition to these highlights, there are many other areas of Windsor Castle to explore, including the beautiful gardens, the impressive Round Tower, and the historic Queen Mary's Dolls' House , which is a miniature replica of an aristocratic home from the 1920s.

Windsor Castle is one of the most significant historical landmarks in the United Kingdom. Its history dates back to the 11th century when it was built by William the Conqueror as a motte-and-bailey castle. Over the centuries, it has been expanded and modified by many monarchs, including Henry II, Edward III, and George IV. Today, it stands as a testament to the rich history and architectural beauty of England.

One of the most significant moments in Windsor Castle's history was during the reign of Edward III. He transformed the castle into a luxurious palace and built St. George's Chapel, which became the official chapel of the Order of the Garter . The chapel's intricate designs and beautiful stained-glass windows are a testament to the architectural achievements of the time.

Throughout history, Windsor Castle has been the site of many royal events. One of the most notable was the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018, which took place in St. George's Chapel. The castle has also been the setting for many state visits and official receptions.

An Unforgettable Experience

A visit to Windsor Castle is a truly unforgettable experience, offering a glimpse into the fascinating history of the British Royal Family and the rich cultural heritage of England. Kate Middleton hasn't been seen in public since last year. Now, social-media users are suspicious.

  • Kate Middleton hasn't been seen in public since Christmas.
  • Kensington Palace announced she underwent a planned abdominal surgery in January.
  • The palace says she'll be recovering until after Easter, but social-media users are suspicious.

Insider Today

Kate Middleton has been absent from the public eye for months now.

The Princess of Wales underwent a " planned abdominal surgery " in January and is still recovering, as Kensington Palace previously announced.

But as her absence continues, royal watchers have taken to social media to question her whereabouts and condition online. The palace, however, said she was doing well as recently as Thursday.

Here's everything we know so far.

Kate Middleton made her most recent public appearance on Christmas Day.

Kate joined the royal family for their annual walk from Sandringham in Norfolk, England, to attend a church service on Christmas Day.

The Princess of Wales walked with her children and husband to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in one of her signature coatdresses, much like she did in years past.

On January 17, Kensington Palace announced Kate was in the hospital for "a planned abdominal surgery."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Prince and Princess of Wales (@princeandprincessofwales)

Kensington Palace said in its statement that Kate would remain in the hospital, The London Clinic, for up to two weeks following the procedure.

"Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery," the statement read. "The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."

Kensington Palace provided no additional information about what procedure Kate underwent, though the palace told the Associated Press the princess didn't have cancer.

The statement also said Kate hoped "her personal medical information remains private" to help provide her children with "normality."

"Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness' progress when there is significant new information to share," the statement went on to say.

Prince William was photographed visiting Kate at the hospital the following day.

Kensington Palace said on January 29 that Kate had returned to Windsor Castle.

"The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery," the statement shared on Instagram said. "She is making good progress."

William and Kate went on to thank the staff at The London Clinic in the statement, as well as those who sent them well wishes.

The same day, Buckingham Palace announced King Charles was returning home after having a procedure for a benign prostate enlargement .

Buckingham Palace announced on February 5 that King Charles has cancer.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement that "a separate issue of concern was noted" during the king's prostate procedure, and additional testing disclosed he has cancer . The palace didn't disclose what form of cancer he was diagnosed with, though they said it wasn't prostate cancer.

The statement also said that the king "commenced a schedule of regular treatments" and that although he would still be working from home, he would "postpone public-facing duties" per medical advice.

The palace didn't specify how long the king would forgo public-facing work .

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer," the statement also said.

Prince William returned to public duty on February 7.

William paused his royal engagements amid Kate's surgery and recovery, returning to work on February 7 for an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle .

The same day, he attended a gala raising money for the London Air Ambulance, and he thanked the public for their messages of support for Kate, Town & Country reported.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days," he said, adding that "it means a great deal to us all."

He has attended a handful of public events since. The public was predicted to look to William in Charles and Kate's absences, as he represents the monarchy's future as heir to the throne.

"It's an opportunity for him to communicate on behalf of the royal family," Eric Schiffer, the chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, said.

In addition, the public generally responds to younger royals more favorably. Without Kate, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, William's youth could be a boon for the monarchy, as Kristen Meizner, a royal watcher, told BI.

"They are most focused on the royals when they are of courtship age, getting married, having babies, that kind of thing," she said. "They're not necessarily considered as dazzling or as exciting to the public when they're 60 or 70 or whatnot."

Kate was reported on February 9 to have traveled to Norfolk to continue her recovery.

On February 9, the Daily Mail reported that Kate had joined her family at their home in Sandringham, Anmer Hall, for her children's half-term holiday.

The outlet also reported that her recovery was going well at the time.

Kate wasn't photographed during her trip from Windsor to Sandringham.

King Charles was photographed a few times throughout February, while Kate remained unseen.

Although he isn't taking on public-facing duties, King Charles has still been photographed a few times since his cancer diagnosis and the beginning of his treatment.

On February 11, he and Queen Camilla were spotted going to church in Sandringham, and he was photographed meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on February 21 at Buckingham Palace.

Kate, on the other hand, remained absent, as Kensington Palace released no photos or videos of her.

William released a rare solo statement on February 20.

A statement from The Prince of Wales pic.twitter.com/LV2jMx75DC — The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) February 20, 2024

Typically, William and Kate have released statements as a pair since they got married.

But on February 20, Kensington Palace released a statement on only William's behalf regarding the conflict in Gaza, in which he said he remained "deeply concerned about the human cost of the conflict in the Middle East since the Hamas terrorist attack on 7 October."

"I, like so many others, want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible," the statement said. "There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza."

William also said he continued "to cling to the hope that a brighter future can be found, and I refuse to give up on that."

In addition to speaking for only William, the statement had a "W" seal at the top rather than the crown featured on messages from the Prince and Princess of Wales as a unit.

William missed a service of thanksgiving on Tuesday because of an unnamed personal matter.

On Tuesday, members of the royal family attended a service of thanksgiving for King Constantine of Greece, King Charles' second cousin and close companion. He was one of William's godfathers.

William was set to attend the event alongside Queen Camilla and other family members but missed the service because of a personal matter, Kensington Palace told Business Insider.

A palace representative also told BI that Kate was doing well, but they didn't elaborate on what caused William to miss the event.

Following his absence, chatter about Kate's prolonged absence from the public eye erupted on social media, with users speculating about why she hasn't been seen in months. The princess was trending on X, and thousands of people posted about her on TikTok. "Kate Middleton" was also sixth on Google's list of trending search terms on Tuesday, highlighting how high public interest got in her absence.

Kensington Palace reiterated that Kate was "doing well" as William returned to public duty on Thursday.

On Thursday, Prince William resumed public duty, visiting the Western Marble Arch Synagogue to learn about the Holocaust Educational Trust, as Kensington Palace shared on Instagram .

He sat down with a Holocaust survivor, Renee Salt. Rebecca English , a royal editor for the Daily Mail, reported on X that during the conversation, he spoke on behalf of himself and Kate.

"Both Catherine and I are extremely concerned about the rise in antisemitism," English quoted the prince as saying to Salt. "That's why I'm here today to reassure you all that people do care and people do listen, and we can't let that go."

Kensington Palace also reiterated that Kate was "doing well" in a statement sent to BI on Thursday.

"We gave guidance two days ago that The Princess of Wales continues to be doing well," the statement said. "As we have been clear since our initial statement in January, we shall not be providing a running commentary or providing daily updates."

As of Thursday, Kensington Palace hadn't released any new photos or videos of the princess.
