Tour Edge Wingman 700 putters: what you need to know

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge Wingman 700 putters.jpg

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Three new mallet and mid-mallet head shapes with varying levels of moment of inertia. Each features interchangeable weights and an insert designed to promote a forward roll sooner after impact.

AVAILABILITY/PRICE: The Wingman 700 Series putters will be available for purchase on August 1 and will carry a retail price of $200.

THE DEEP DIVE: Tour Edge is introducing its Wingman 700 Series mallet putter—high moment of inertia mallet and mini-mallet designs that come in three head shapes with a variety of hosel options.

“The original Wingman putters enjoyed a cult-like success, and over the past two years, we’ve been improving upon that success in every way possible,” said Tour Edge president and chief designer David Glod. “The feedback we received was that the Lock-On Alignment and the extreme stability of the putters were truly revolutionary for golfers. We put our focus on expanding the series to fit more player preferences in the shaping and to really upgrade the look, sound and feel of the putters in a big way.”

Key to the design are interchangeable weights on the wings of the sole that come in 3, 8 and 15 grams with the 3-gram weight being the standard option. A separate interchangeable weight kit including two 8-gram weights and two 15-gram weights allows golfers the ability to add or subtract weight in the heel and toe areas as preferred. The weight kit allows for nine possible combinations to give golfers the option of adding or subtracting more overall weight to the heel and toe of the clubhead. More weight in the heel will assist those who lag and leave the toe open in their stroke. Golfers with a tendency to pull their putts will benefit from more weight on the toe.

The Thermoplastic TPU face insert features a softer feel while “microgrooves” assist forward roll and reduce skidding. The carbon fiber sole plate allows weight to be moved to the extremes to boost moment of inertia to mitigate the effect of mis-hits. With more carbon utilized in these designs compared to its predecessor, 34 percent of the stainless steel has been removed to create even more perimeter weighting and stability.

The Lock-On alignment aid is designed to allow you to discern with your eye at address if the lie angle of the putter is matched correctly to the target. The grip is a jumbo Wingman-branded Jumbo Sink Fit grip from Lamkin that promotes a lighter grip pressure.

The 701 and 702 are max moment of inertia models with a mid-toe hang (701) and face-balanced options (702). The 703 (mid hang) and 704 (face balanced) also are max MOI but do not have the perimeter “wings” of the 701 and 702 and instead move the interchangeable weights more face forward. This provides a gradual step down in MOI for those wanting a more compact, smaller footprint while still providing high MOI properties.

The 705 (mid-toe hang) and 706 (center shaft) are smaller mallets for those that can’t stomach a larger clubhead. Both have shorter wings with the weights more forward.

The stock shaft of the Wingman 700 series is the KBS CT Tour. This stepless steel-putter shaft has a stiffer structure throughout (especially in the tip section) to provide more stability. All models will be available in 33, 34 and 35 inches in right-hand only.

The Wingman 700 Series putters will be available for purchase on August 1 and will carry a retail price of $200.

Tour Edge Wingman 700 Series Putter Review

Tour edge wingman 700 series putter.

Tour Edge has updated their Wingman putter family with three new designs and six different hosel options. These three new Wingman 700 Series putter designs feature extreme stability and Tour Edge’s tried and true Lock-On alignment technology. On top of that, the Tour Edge Wingman 700 Series have a new look with improved sound and feel.

Looks 703 6

The original Tour Edge Wingman putter lineup featured all black bodies with white alignment lines and orange branding. This new 700 series evolution features a misted silver finish with black contrasting Lock-On alignment aids and orange branding. Those black Lock-On alignment aids are 20% larger making for a better frame of the ball. Lock-On alignment works by lining up the lines on two different levels of the putter. If you’re looking over the putter and the two black lines don’t line up, the face isn’t square to where you’re aiming. Get them lined up straight and you’re locked in.

There are three different body types to choose from in the Wingman 700 series. Each shape is available in a slant neck or double bend for some toe hang or face balance respectively.

701 Looks 3

The 701 and 702 have a winged shape reminiscent of a stealth bomber for a super high MOI increasing forgiveness and stability.

703 Looks 5

The 703 and 704 are a somewhat familiar “fang” shape.  They’re more compact, and are essentially the same thing as the 701 and 702 with the wings cut off. With the loss of the wings, you sacrifice a little MOI but the 703 and 704 are still designed to be stable and forgiving.

705 Looks 6

The 705 and 706 are like the 703/4, but with the tips of the fangs cut off for a smaller “mid mallet” profile. In a nutshell, this is a good fit for players who like a smaller profile but are looking to step up from a blade.

Tour Edge Wingman 701 4

How Does it Feel?

Tour Edge uses a hollow carbon sole plate in the Wingman 700 series. This affects the feel in two different ways. First, it removes 34% of the stainless steel that would otherwise be in the body so more weight is distributed to the perimeter of the putter. By increasing the perimeter weighting, the putter is now more balanced, and therefore more stable. All three putters are noticeably well balanced and have a smooth stroke which really helps with accuracy. The KBS CT Tour shaft and Lamkin Sink Fit Straight grip also go a long way in keeping the putter nice and quiet during the stroke.

As far as face response goes, the Wingman 700 lineup is definitely an improvement from its predecessor. Each model feels slightly different off the face, but the “softer durometer thermoplastic TPU” face provides better feedback. There’s still a little bit of an “open” feel as a result of the hollow carbon sole plate, but the overall feel is soft and more precise across the lineup.

Tour Edge Wingman 700 4

How Does it Sound?

Sound and Feel match up pretty well in the Tour Edge Wingman 700 putter lineup. Due to the hollowed out portion of the body, there’s a slight “openess” to the tone while still soft and muted. Like the original Wingman lineup, it’s a fairly unique tone. I’d describe it as a muted “tap” from a firm TPU insert. As you get more toward the toe and heel (away from the sweet spot) the sound gets firmer and clickier. The combination of sound and feel work well to provide accurate feedback of where on the face you struck your putt.

Tour Edge Wingman 700 11

On-Course Performance

I like the new Tour Edge Wingman 700 putters more visually, but I also like the performance a lot more. Some of that might be from the slant neck setup in the putters I tested, but they also felt more stable. All three putters swung extremely smooth and had a nice pure roll. There are micro-grooves molded into the face which promote forward roll and reduce skidding. Combine these characteristics with the high MOIs and the 700 series makes for some clean rolling putters.

Lock-On technology has provided another interesting performance benefit for me aside from alignment. I have a tendency to stay back on my heels when putting which leads to poor head and shoulder positions. This ultimately leads to a somewhat wiggly stroke and poor putts for a myriad of reasons. With Lock-On, I quickly notice the lines not matching up correctly and this makes me focus on getting my weight, head, and shoulders in the correct position. In turn, this leads to a much better putting stroke and this visual aid plays a huge role in accomplishing that.

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Wingman 700 Series Putter

Tour Edge’s Wingman putters have established themselves as stable and forgiving putters. The new Wingman 700 series putters continue that reputation, and in my opinion, have a much better look and feel. With three different mallet shapes, and different hosel/neck options, there’s plenty of variety to choose from. Whichever one you choose, the Wingman 700 putters are extremely smooth swinging, player-friendly putters.

Something I didn’t touch on in the review but is certainly worth noting are the interchangeable sole weights. Should you want to modify the feel or balance of the putter, Tour Edge offers an additional weight kit (sold separately). The stock weights are 3 grams, but there are also 8 and 15 gram weights available. You can even mix and match depending on your personal preference.

“Talk to me, Goose.”

Get ready to buzz the tower. Tour Edge has released a new version of their Wingman putter, the Wingman 700 line. Kudos to Tour Edge for their promptness, as the Wingman sequels were finished 34 years faster than the transition from Nick to Bradley Bradshaw.

Obviously, Rooster’s sweetly savage stash took some time to become flight ready. Perfection can’t be rushed, I suppose, and Tom Cruise’s lack of aging proves he truly is an alien.

Enough about naval aviators. Let’s get into the Wingman 700.

Tour Edge has hit the afterburners this time around. The Wingman 700 putters take the beloved features of the original Wingman and push them right into the danger zone. They’ve kept the parts of the Wingman that customers liked and added new models and technological improvements to make sure that Wingman loyalists won’t lose that loving feeling. Tour Edge president and chief designer says it’s time for the big one.

Yes, I can do this all day. (Sorry, wrong movie.)

Updating Tour Edge’s Original Wingman Technologies

perimeter weighting

“The original Wingman putters enjoyed a cult-like success and, over the past two years, we’ve been improving upon that success in every way possible. The feedback we received was that the Lock-On Alignment and the extreme stability of the putters were truly revolutionary for golfers. We put our focus on expanding the series to fit more player preferences in the shaping and to really upgrade the look, sound and feel of the putters in a big way.” David Glod, Tour Edge President and Chief Designer.

Lock-On Alignment Technology

alignment and the extreme

The Wingman 700 retains the Lock-On Alignment Technology of the original Wingman. How does this work? Basically, the upper and lower lines on the putter will line up when you are correctly positioned above the putter. Ultimately, you should be able to consistently line up your body to the putter, making your stroke consistent as well.

Does this technology work? For some, it’s likely a game changer. Anything that makes you more consistent with your putting should improve your putting. Lie-angle tools such as the Lock-On Alignment Technology should do just that. That’s one of the reasons that multiple companies through the years have had various takes on the technology. My favorite was the Odyssey Red Ball.

While this alignment scheme will work for some, it can also put golfers into incorrect positions. Golfers will be lining up their eyes with the putter, which is good—unless the putter is not positioned correctly. It’s not foolproof but that doesn’t mean that it should be discounted or that it couldn’t be exactly what you are looking for.

Multi-Material Construction

wingman putter

Multiple material usage is a hallmark of modern putter design. Like their competitors, Tour Edge knows that using multiple materials is one way to max out the MOI of a given putter design. High MOI equates to less twisting during the stroke. Who wants to play with a putter that feels like a trout on a line during the stroke?

To reach their MOI goals, Tour Edge placed heavier stainless steel near the perimeter of the putter while filling the center with a lighter hollow carbon sole plate. In fact, 34 percent of the stainless steel was removed to boost perimeter weighting.

Interchangeable Sole Weights

face balanced

The Wingman 700 putters all feature removable sole weights. Though weight kits must be purchased separately, the adjustable weights will allow you to dial in the swing weight that fits your stroke.

Tour Edge also suggests using the sole weights as a way to adjust the opening and closing of the putter. Need the face to close faster? Drop a heavier weight in the heel. Face closing too fast? Put a heavier weight in the toe. Basically, do what you have been doing with your adjustable driver for years. Perhaps something like a SLDR Spider is on the horizon to do just this.

When fitting a putter to your stroke, selecting the right neck is likely the first step to take. However, if you just can’t dial in the opening and closing, maybe mess with the weights a bit. Golfers have tried crazier things to achieve that perfect fit.

MicroGroove Face Technology

center shafted

Rounding out the Wingman 700’s multi-material construction is the thermoplastic face insert. This insert is touted as promoting a “soft, yet pure feel on contact.” Additionally, the insert will once again feature Tour Edge’s MicroGroove technologies. The idea behind the grooves is that they help to promote forward roll.

That’s enough about the technologies. Let’s take a look at the new Wingman 700 models.

Tour Edge Wingman 700: 701 and 702

preferences in the shaping

The 701 and the 702 models are the big kids on the Wingman 700 team. The large profile of these mallets generates the highest MOI values in the Wingman 700 family. Peripheral wings and rearward adjustable weights push the differential weight back and to the edges. A classic plan for kicking up the MOI.

Though the bodies are the same with the 701 and 702, the necks are not. The 701 features a slant neck, providing the putter with a touch of toe hang. If you play a blade but want to try a mallet, the 701 is the place to start. The face-balanced 702 features a more traditional mallet neck design, promoting more of a straight stroke path.

Tour Edge Wingman 700: 703 and 704

fit more player preferences

As the Wingman 700 model numbers go up, the heads get smaller. The 703 and 704 models ditch the wings found in the 701/702. This makes the 703/704 profile more compact overall. For these, the 703 has the slant neck and the 704 has a double-bend hosel.

There is another interesting change when it comes to the removable weights. For the 703 and 704, the weights have moved forward. This move likely drops the MOI a bit but it also moves the center of gravity forward. We’ve seen this move from a few companies recently.

TaylorMade did it with the Spider FCG , and Odyssey pretty much moved all the weights forward in their 2022 putter lines . All these companies seem to be seeking the ideal recipe for CG and MOI.

Tour Edge Wingman 700: 705 and 706

interchangeable weights

At the small end of the still large putter scale, we have the 705 and 706 models. The 705 reminds me of the Cameron Phantom X 5.5. Overall, the Wings are shorter than the other Wingman 700 models and they are a bit on the husky side. Keeping with the odd-numbered plan, the 705 model features the slant neck and a little toe hang.

The 706 veers off the neck flight plan a bit. The 706 is still face-balanced. However, this putter features a center shaft rather than a double-bend shaft. Center-shaft seekers surely should celebrate!

“This is what I call a target-rich environment.”

revolutionary for golfers

With three head choices, each with two neck options, you should be able to find a Wingman 700 that fits your flight plan. Tour Edge really thinks that they are rolling out something special with these new putters. On paper, I’d agree with them.

The Tour Edge Wingman 700 putter line is packed with technologies designed to help you make more putts. They want your golf game to improve so they won’t have to worry about you making your living as a singer.

Ultimately, it all comes down to making putts. Remember boys, no points for second place. As it turns out, two versions of the original Wingman putters competed in the 2020 Most Wanted Mallet competition . How did they do? I’m not gonna sit here and blow sunshine up your butt. They placed middle of the pack.

The thing is, middle of the pack is a solid placement for a new design from a golf company not really known for innovation in putters. When talking hybrids and fairway woods, Tour Edge clubs are respected. With the Wingman 700 putters, it seems like Tour Edge has made a commitment to refining the Wingman design. Could they be one to watch in the 2023 Most Wanted Mallet test?

If you are already thinking a Wingman 700 can be your wingman anytime, they are available for pre-order through the end of the month and in shops Aug. 1. Take them to bag or lose them forever.

When I started playing in 2020 I got into the buying stuff aspect of the game as much as any other part of golf lol. Consequently, I tried 10+ new putters over the last 30 months or so including all the “big names” in most of their styles. The wingman is in my bag and I don’t think it’s going anywhere.

Tour Edge Exotics Wingman Putter Review

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge Exotics Wingman putter is a high performance mallet with meaningful alignment technology.  Multiple configurations allow it to fit players with different putting strokes.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Introduction

For most of my golfing life, if you had asked me to give you a word association for Tour Edge Exotics, it would be “fairway woods.”  In the last couple years, however, the words most connected to TEE have changed to “over deliver” or “exceed expectations.”  With the EXS and EXS 220 lines, plus their Hot Launch clubs, Tour Edge has become the brand that gives golfers more for their money than anyone else .  That trend continues with their new Wingman putter.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

The first thing that grabs your eye when you set down the Tour Edge Exotics Wingman is the Lock-On Contrast Alignment Technology .  That’s TEE’s name for the thick white stripe bisected by a thin black line.  What’s important to recognize is that it’s not just about aiming, it’s also about getting a consistent set up .  When you have your putter soled and your hands in the right spot, the black lines on the top and in the flange connect (above).  However, when you see the black lines separated (below), you know your set up is off.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Overall, the Wingman is a sharp looking mallet.  My favorite thing about it is the size – it’s surprisingly compact given the modern shape.  The carbon fiber sole plate enhances the idea that this is a putter designed to give you a performance boost.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

It’s also worth noting that the Wingman comes with a KBS CT Tour putter shaft.  Its black PVD finish looks cool and gives the Wingman a premium feel.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Sound & Feel

The Micro-Groove Face on the Wingman produces one of the softest, most muted feelings in recent memory.  On short putts, its like hitting the ball with a pillow.  Longer putts produce the gentlest of “tock” sounds.  I felt that this muted sound corresponded precisely with the way the ball gently rolled off the face.

One downside of the softer feel and quieter impact sound is that the feedback is minimal .  This is further exacerbated by the high MOI design – even extreme misses don’t cause the putter to twist.  You’ll need to pay close attention to your stroke to know if you’re hitting the ball in the center of the face.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Performance

The Tour Edge Exotics Wingman comes in three different configurations .  Pictured here is the Wingman 01 which has 30 degrees of toe hang and a slant neck.  Wingman 02 is face balanced with a double bend shaft for the player with less arc in their stroke.  Wingman 03 is also face balanced but it is center shafted and has a slightly different look at address (no thick white alignment line).  This variety shows Tour Edge’s commitment to offering golfers a quality, well-fit putter.

Beyond the different fitting options, the Wingman sports three key performance features .  First is the aforementioned Lock-On Technology .  This isn’t an entirely novel feature, but it’s well executed here and has a real impact on making putts.  Do note that you’ll undermine the effectiveness of Lock-On Technology if the putter isn’t bent to the lie angle you need, so make sure you get fit.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Additionally, the Wingman has a high MOI thanks to the shape and the carbon fiber sole plate.  This keeps mishit putts on line and gives them the speed to get to the hole.  Finally, the Wingman has interchangeable weights to let you dial in swing weight.  The putter comes standard with 3 gram weights but 8 and 15 gram weights are available.

What immediately stood out to me when I started using the Wingman was that it doesn’t feel like a mallet.  Often high MOI mallets feel like swinging a sledge hammer, and I lose all sense of speed and club face control.  Thanks to the combination of its smaller size and well-fit toe hang, the Wingman felt natural in my hands which led to great results right out of the gate.  I enjoyed the confidence boost I got from knowing my set up was correct before making each stroke, and the high MOI forgave the occasional poor swing.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

With more and more run of the mill putters priced at $250, $300, and beyond, the Tour Edge Exotics Wingman is a welcome change.  For $200, you get a putter that has a bevy of performance features and fitting options.  If you’re in the market for a new flat stick, this one definitely deserves a look.

Tour Edge ill tell ya i.purcheased a cobra F9 driver last year and replaced it with a callaway mavrik Max Driver both driver are in my closet because I purchased the tour edge 220 line driver and it the best move I’ve made!!! What a driver ,,long, forgiving, came with one of the best shafts out there in a reg flex, I gave driver head a very good look over and the craftsmanship is Top Qulity second to none!!! Ty tour edge and I have another review for fairways for another day!!! Enjoy everyone!!!!

Tour Edge Golf produces outstanding golf equipment! I’m a senior,@76, hold a USGA H/C 4.2 and have been beating my age since I was 71. I play TE woods, hybrids & irons w/graph senior flex shafts. TE custom-fitted my clubs; they perform better than the 6 sets of high$ sticks I now own. Yes-I a golf nut own 2 doz putters (6 Scotty C) . I can’t wait to try the new TE mallet!

' src=

Just bought the Tour edge Wingman 02 and have yet to test it out on course but feels and looks great. Putting is not only about the process but also confidence in the equipment and I feel like I will make more putts so excited for my next game

' src=

The putter looks nice is well made, premium shaft and grip. The alignment aid works fantastic it really helps in consistent setup. The only and biggest issue is sound and feel. The big empty area behind the sole plate produces a very unappealing sound and feel. The noise also varies greatly depending on contact. Maybe it is better outside which I have not tried. I end up taking some lead weight and foam and putting it in the sole plate which made it much better. I liked the putter so much I bought the second generation which after using has a much better feel and sound with the same benefits as the first.

' src=

Well so far I have purchased the exotic driver, 5 wood and 7 wood. Debating on irons and have not looked at the putter yet

Tour Edge introduces new Exotics Wingman 700 Series putters

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Tour Edge is announcing the launch of their new Exotics Wingman 700 Series Putters featuring three new modern mini-mallet designs and six total hosel options.

The brand-new shapes offer MOI (Moment of Inertia) properties matching the size of the Wingman putter head in design to provide maximum stability and optimal roll for every player type.

The three designs also aim to provide optimized alignment optics on the Lock-On technology alignment system, improved acoustics, and a softer feel. In addition, interchangeable sole weights on the heel and toe are featured in every model.

Models 701 and 702 – Super Max MOI

tour edge wingman 700 putters

“The 701 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 702 (Face Balance) models produce extreme MOI. in a modern mallet design that forces the face square to the swing path for a truer roll due to the extreme perimeter weighted wings featured on the Wingman 701 and 702 designs.”

Models 703 and 704 – Max MOI

tour edge wingman 700 putters

“The 703 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 704 (Face Balance) models remove the perimeter wings featured on the Super Max MOI models and move the interchangeable weights more face forward. This provides a gradual step down in MOI for those wanting a more compact, smaller footprint while still providing massive MOI properties.”

Models 705 and 706 – High MOI/Mini-Mallet

tour edge wingman 700 putters

“The 705 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 706 (Center Shaft) provides the playability of a blade putter with the stability of a mallet. The Wings on the 705 and 706 have been shortened, as has the Lock-On Alignment, providing perfect balance of player shaping, alignment and compact footprint.”

The Wingman 700 Series putters will be available for purchase worldwide on August 1 and will carry a retail price of $199.99.

Callaway paradym ai smoke driver review (triple diamond and max) — club junkie reviews.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

New drivers receive all the hype at the beginning of the year, and for good reason: they are the most technology-packed clubs in the bag and the biggest investment for golfers. This year, Callaway is right there on technology with the new Paradym Ai Smoke lineup.

The big story is the Ai Smart Face with micro deflections for added ball speed and straighter ball flight. There is also a new 360-degree carbon chassis that is lighter and stronger than the previous model.

Callaway’s Paradym Ai Smoke lineup consists of four driver heads. I am going to take a look at the two most popular models for GolfWRX followers, the “bread and butter” Max, and the Triple Diamond head.

For a more in-depth review of these drivers check out the Club Junkie podcast below or on any podcast platform.

Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond

This head is aimed at the lower handicap golfer who is looking for lower spin, lower launch, and the ability to shape their shots. The shape is the most compact at address of the Ai Smoke drivers and the cleanest looking with the deletion of the chevron alignment mark on the top. The shape also looks to be a little shorter from heel to toe as well as from face to back. I like the forged carbon on the sole and love that no two drivers will ever look exactly the same.

Hitting the new Paradym Ai Smoke TD is a real pleasure as when I first hit it I thought it was louder than the previous Paradym. I was hitting indoors and the sound was greatly amplified because outdoors the TD has a very muted sound and nice soft feel. The new Ai Smart Face lets you feel the ball compress off the face when you strike it solid and the face overall just has a little softer feel than the Paradym.

While the launch number wasn’t that far off from the Ai Smoke Max driver, the overall ball flight was flatter and just slightly lower with the TD. My decent angle was also about one-degree shallower with the TD. The biggest surprise to me was how playable the TD was on poor shots. I expected the head to be a little more demanding and penalizing when you hit it off the toe or heel but was happily met with shots that didn’t venture too far off the fairway.

Keeping the heavy weight in the back makes the TD a driver playable by a wider range of handicaps.  The Ai Smart Face also kept the ball speed numbers extremely consistent no matter where the ball made contact. With how well I hit the Triple Diamond, I am now a little more confident it will perform on even a poor driving day!

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Paradym Ai Smoke Max

Callaway’s bread and butter driver is super adjustable to let fitters dial it into a wide range of golfers. While some will argue that the Triple Diamond driver is the best looking, I think Callaway did a nice job on the Max head. A touch longer from heel to toe and the face-to-back length is a little more stretched but it all works together for a larger but good-looking driver. I do like larger profile drivers as they tend to give you confidence that you don’t have to be perfect and they offer some help when you are off. I like the sound on the TD driver, but the Max might be even a touch quieter upon impact. It could be the weight track in the back with additional structure that diverts the sound waves, giving a low-pitched metallic sound.

The launch on the Max was just a little higher than the TD, but it tended to be consistently higher when I hit my low draw miss. That shot seemed to stay straighter and go a little higher with this Max head. Ball flight with the Max tended to be straighter with less curvature to draws and fades. You might miss the fairway on either side, but the ball was on a straight line right or left and didn’t stray that far offline.

Off-center strikes were helped by the Ai Smart Face and kept the ball speed higher than you would expect. Callaway hasn’t made any claims to MOI numbers but the Max is a very stable driver that doesn’t let the face flop open on toe contact and won’t snap shut when you hit it off the heel. This stability gives you a consistent and straight flight that you can count on when you need it.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Callaway has really brought some serious firepower to the driver game this year with the Ai Smoke models. There is the Triple Diamond for the player who needs lower spin and lower ball flight and the Max for the player who wants it all with added forgiveness. There are also two other models, Max D, and Max D Fast, for some added draw, higher launch, and lighter weight (Max D Fast). Overall, Callaway has a driver that should fit your swing!

Spotted: Custom Scotty Cameron putters at the Cognizant Classic

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Each week on the PGA Tour, we spot some pretty amazing Scotty Cameron Circle T putters that players are using or testing. This week is no exception as we have some great flatsticks that were built for players at the Congnizant Classic. Here are a few of the ones that stood out to us!

  • Check out all of our photos from the Cognizant Classic here.

Jacob Bridgeman: Circle T Masterful+

The matte copper finish is something you don’t see a ton from Scotty Cameron, but it looks great on this putter. The Masterful+ is a version of the retail Newport+ with a slightly wider shape from face to back. A Teryllium face insert should offer a softer feel and sound, especially with the deeper milling on it.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Tom Kim: Circle T 5s

Kim’s putter might be the most unique here because of the center shaft, shaft alignment aid, and a sanded-down sole. When you look at the top of the putter, down near the heel, you can see an alignment aid that works with the shaft to make sure the putter face is square to the target. The sole also looks to have the center of it sanded down and that could be to ensure that the putter sits a certain way when it is resting on the turf.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Alejandro Tosti: Circle T Timeless+

This Timeless+ is a take on the retail Newport 2 Plus with a wider shape and a sole plate that moves more mass to the perimeter for added stability. Tosti went with a single site line on the topline of the putter, leaving the flange naked. We see another Teryllium face insert here for dialing in the sound and feel, but this time with shallower milling.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Ryo Hisatsune: Circle T F-3

We haven’t seen too many heel-shafted putters in the past couple of years, but recently they have made a slight comeback. Ryo’s F3 is based off the legendary Del Mar head shape with the larger shoulders surrounding the flange. This putter also has a unique “T” shaped alignment with a white line running from heel to toe on the top of the putter and a half line running from front to back on the flange. The face looks to have a pretty aggressive deep milling for a softer, quieter impact.

Gear:  Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 700 Series putters Price:   $199.99 with KBS CT Tour shaft and Lamkin Jumbo Sink Fit Pistol grip Specs:  Mallet putters with interchangeable sole weights, carbon fiber sole plate and grooved, thermoplastic polyurethane face insert Available:  August 1

Who it’s For:  Golfers who prefer the look and forgiveness of a high-MOI mallet that want to improve their alignment and increase consistency on the greens.

The Skinny:  The three new Wingman 700 Series putters have a softer face insert than the original Wingman for enhanced sound and feel, but still offer a lot of forgiveness thanks to extreme perimeter weighting and a multi-material design.

The Deep Dive:  The first Tour Edge Exotics Wingman putter was released in 2020, and now the company is looking to expand the popularity of the mallet by offering it in three different head shapes, each coming with two hosel options. The key technologies, however, carry across all three clubs.

Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 700 Series

The Lock-On Alignment system helps players set up to the ball more consistently. (Tour Edge)

Each of the 700 Series putters has an angular shape, and the first thing most golfers will notice when they set one down and address it is the Lock-On Alignment technology. It’s a pair of black areas on the top of the club, and each has a single white alignment line in the center. The idea is that when your eyes are in the proper position over the ball, the lines will appear joined, but if you are standing with your eyes either too far to the inside or the outside, the white stripes will not appear to touch. It can be a helpful, easy way to ensure that you are set up to the ball, and in a good position, before every putt.

Each of the three 700 Series mallets is cast from stainless steel, but a large portion of the sole is covered by a carbon fiber plate that reduces the amount of stainless that would be used by 34 percent. That does two important things. First, it takes weight out of the middle of the club and creates perimeter weighting. Second, it allowed designers to take the discretionary weight saved by using the carbon fiber and repurpose it in the form of interchangeable sole weights in the back heel and toe areas. The 700 Series putters come with 3-gram weights, but 8- and 15-gram weights are available in separately-sold kits. The weights further boost the moment of inertia (MOI) to help the clubs resist twisting on off-center hits.

Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 700 Series

The carbon fiber sole plate saves weight that can be redistributed to sole weights for increased MOI. (Tour Edge)

Finally, the MicroGroove face is designed to encourage the ball to start rolling instead of skidding for better speed control, but Tour Edge opted to use a softer thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to create a softer feel.

The Exotics Wingman 701 and 702 have the same head that features a pair of extensions on the heel and toe wings that hold the sole weights. They have the highest MOI and most stability, with the 701 having 30 degrees of toe hang thanks to a short slant neck hosel. It should be ideal for players with a slightly-arched putting stroke, while the 702’s double-bend hosel makes it face balanced for golfers with a straight back, straight through stroke.

Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 700 Series

Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 704 putter (Tour Edge)

The Exotics Wingman 703 and 704 have a slightly-smaller head that lacks the extensions on the back of the heel and toe wings that the 701 and 702 have. The sole weights are also forward in the head. The 703 has a short slant neck hosel, while the 704 has a double-bend hosel .

Finally, the 705 and 706 are the most compact, with sole weights in the front. The 705 is designed for golfers with an arced putting stroke , while the 706 is face-balanced .

Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 700 Series Putters

James Miles

It is well established by now that Tour Edge has been on a heater for the past four or five years, and every single time you think that they might see that momentum slow, they bring another release that continues the wave. Perhaps the most surprising success they have had over that timeframe has been the Wingman Putters, so two years later, it is time for an expansion and evolution and Tour Edge is taking things to new levels with the Wingman 700 Series .

Exotics Wingman 700 Series Putters

The Wingman 700 Series Putters

While the original Wingman putters were certainly more on the abstract side of things, they also did a whole lot extremely well. In fact, the feedback by golfers, including THP’ers in our previous TEEm Tour Edge test group, absolutely lauded the Wingman for its stability and optimal roll. That said, obviously being a first iteration there were some things which Tour Edge believed they could improve upon, so two years later we are here with the release of the new Wingman 700 Series putters.

Looking at the entire lineup of Tour Edge Exotics Wingman 700 Series Putters

Before anyone asks, yes, the “Lock-On” alignment which Tour Edge hung its hat on for the original Wingman is back and present in every one of the six new putters. It is within that framework that the company wanted to make a putter line with enough breadth to offer golfers across a broader spectrum with more fitting options.

Don’t worry, before we get into the designs and tech, the Wingman 700 Series holds firm at a $199.99 price point, which makes it supremely competitive in the mallet and mid-mallet putter realm. These six putters span across three different shapes, each with two different neck orientations. The shapes themselves will no doubt be very familiar to most as they each feature reminders of arguably the three most popular winged putter designs on the market, all of course with the implementation of Tour Edge’s own technology.

The Wingman 705 from the 700 series

That technology once again hinges around maximizing the weight placement using multiple materials to push the MOI potential of each model as high as possible. Every putter features interchangeable sole weights which are more forward in the designs now (toward the face) which adds control and stability, a trend we continue to see more and more in putters.  Weights will be standard at 3g, but 8g and 15g will also be available individually or via the purchase of a complete weight kit. Tour Edge is also pushing that the large variance in weights available means you can tweak the toe-hang some to better fit the individual’s stroke, like we said, a massive emphasis on fit this iteration from the company.

The 704 from the wingman 700 series

Lock-On alignment remains intact but is now 20% larger in terms of the alignment line which should make the feedback of proper setup even more easy to grasp for golfers of all skill levels. Additionally, a larger carbon fiber sole plate is in play which allowed 34% of the stainless steel to be removed to improve both feel and stability through even more MOI.

The tech change which was most asked for is in sound (feel). The original was on the sharper side of the feedback spectrum, and for some it was not the most pleasant experience long-term. So, this time a major focus to the acoustics through a softer feel was paramount. Using a softer TPU in their MicroGroove horizontal molding has brought the decibels down to a more solid and plush tone according to Tour Edge, something we look forward to testing.

The wingman 702

The 701 (Mid-Toe Hang) and 702 (Face Balance) are the “Super Max MOI” options which are very reminiscent to the spider profile which has consistently been one of the most popular shapes in golf. That said, Tour Edge has taken the perimeter weighting to new levels giving it a larger footprint with heavy focus on resistance to twisting with one of the highest MOI’s of any putter anywhere.

The topline look of the Wingman 700 series

Slotting in at the “Max MOI” section, the 703 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 704 (Face Balance) are reminiscent of the seven-shaping using “fangs” or “wings” with some elongation to them to increase the MOI of the putter, but not to the levels of the 701 and 702, this also puts the interchangeable weights directly behind the face which pushed that CG forward while keeping the MOI high.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Finally, the 705 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 706 (Center Shaft) is a more compact winged shape which is very much mid-mallet in its nature. This of course means while it keeps MOI, it does not do so to the level of the other putters in the Wingman 700 Series. This is the model which Tour Edge believed will garner more play for the pickier golfer as it hits a segment which uses all the technology, but in a more visually compact package.

The wingman 705

As mentioned previously, the new Wingman 700 Series putters from Tour Edge will come in at $199.99 offering a lot of tech at a price point most others cannot, or perhaps will not compete. The putters feature a KBS CT Tour putter shaft along side a Lamkin grip and will be available in 33”, 34”, and 35” (RH only).

TOUR EDGE ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF WINGMAN® 700 SERIES PUTTERS FEATURING THREE NEW MOI-BASED DESIGNS

July 13, 2022

Today, Tour Edge is announcing the launch of their new Exotics Wingman 700 Series Putters featuring three new modern mini-mallet designs and six total hosel options.

The brand-new shapes offer cascading MOI (Moment of Inertia) properties matching the size of the Wingman putter head, providing maximum stability and optimal roll for every player type.

The three innovative designs provide optimized alignment optics on the wildly effective Lock-On technology alignment system, improved acoustics, and a softer feel.

Interchangeable sole weights on the heel and toe are featured in every model.

“The result of our two-year revamp is six new putter models that represent some of the highest MOI putters on the market, and that are absolutely going to help you reduce the number of putts you are taking in a round,” added Glod.

The Wingman 700 Series putters will be available for purchase worldwide on August 1 and will carry a retail price of $199.99.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Models 701 and 702 – SUPER MAX MOI

The 701 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 702 (Face Balance) models produce extreme MOI. in a modern mallet design that forces the face square to the swing path for a truer roll due to the extreme perimeter weighted wings featured on the Wingman 701 and 702 designs.

This larger footprint provides an extremely high resistance to twisting with one of the highest MOI ratings of any putter available on the market.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

Models 703 and 704 – MAX MOI

The 703 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 704 (Face Balance) models remove the perimeter wings featured on the Super Max MOI models and move the interchangeable weights more face forward. This provides a gradual step down in MOI for those wanting a more compact, smaller footprint while still providing massive MOI properties.

With the weights directly behind the face, this design creates more face control.

tour edge wingman 700 putters

MODELS 705 and 706 – HIGH MOI/MINI-MALLET

The 705 (Mid Toe-Hang) and 706 (Center Shaft) provides the playability of a blade putter with the stability of a mallet. The Wings on the 705 and 706 have been shortened, as has the Lock-On Alignment, providing perfect balance of player shaping, alignment and compact footprint.

The interchangeable weights are also more face forward to add even more directional control and accuracy.

All three shapes share these same technology features:

  • Lock-On Alignment Technology is a one-of-a-kind contrast alignment technology that allows you to discern with your eye at address if the lie angle of the putter is matched correctly to the target. The 20% larger alignment line surface area in the 700 Series frames the ball better at address to effectively lock more putts.
  • A Hollow Carbon Sole Plate with a larger surface area in the new Wingman redistributes weight to the sides and back of the clubhead to help boost MOI. With more carbon utilized in these designs, 34% of the stainless steel has been removed to create even more perimeter weighting and stability.
  • Interchangeable Weights on the sole of all three designs offer the option of adding or subtracting more overall weight to the heel and toe of the clubhead to obtain preferred feel. Weights come in 3, 8 and 15 grams, with the 3-gram weight being the standard option.

The 8-gram and 15-gram weights will be available individually and a separate weight kit will include two 8-gram weights and two 15-gram weights to give golfers the option of adding or subtracting more overall weight to the heel and toe of the clubhead. More weight in the heel will assist those who lag and leave the toe open in their stroke. Golfers with a tendency to pull their putts will benefit from more weight on the toe.

  • MicroGroove Face Technology features a softer durometer thermoplastic TPU insert face for a greatly improved feel. The putter face on each of the Wingman 700 Series putters features MicroGroove technology that provides a soft, yet pure feel upon contact. The horizontal precision-molded grooves improve forward roll earlier in the putt and reduces skidding off the face to create a better roll.
  • A new Jumbo Sink Fit Pistol grip from Lamkin features a distinctive contoured shape and exclusive Fingerprint Technology. The Sink Fit Pistol encourages lighter grip pressure and a smoother putting stroke.

 Hosel Information

  • Wingman 701, 703, 705 – The Mid-Toe Hang hosel (30 °) is ideal for a putting stroke with a slight arc, where the closing angle on the forward stroke is moderate and compensates against the tendency to pull a putt left. The slight arc is the putting stroke that the majority of golfers have shown to produce and the kind of motion that usually matches best with blade putters. In addition to the Toe Hang providing the ability to use the same stroke as a blade, it also offers the off-center-hit forgiveness of an oversized mallet due to its extreme MOI properties.
  • Wingman 702, 704 – The Double Bend Face-Balanced hosel is designed for a pendulum straight back, straight through putting stroke due to the face of the putter rotating less during the putting stroke. This true square back to square through stroke creates a consistent blocking motion in the stroke, making it harder to putt off-line, even on mishits away from the center of the face.
  • Wingman 706 – This lone Center-Shafted hosel provides an alignment-oriented Face-Balanced putter suited for players who keeps their eyes directly above the ball and takes the club straight back and swings straight through the ball. With equal amounts of weight in the heel and toe, this type of club suits a player who keeps his eyes directly above the ball and takes the club straight back and swings straight through the ball.

The stock shaft of the Wingman 700 series is the KBS CT Tour putter shaft. This stepless steel-putter has a stiffer structure throughout the shaft and specifically in the tip to provide more stability. The firmer profile makes the putter feel easier to control and provides better head awareness. All models will be available in 33”, 34” and 35” in RH only.

Tour Edge Wingman 700 Putters

tour edge wingman 700 putters

ORLANDO, Florida – Putters have long been the beneficiary of original innovative design thinking and the six new Wingman putters in the 700 series from Tour Edge are examples, all featuring high MOI.

TOUR EDGE WINGMAN PUTTERS

Three shapes, six models

Two 3-gram interchangeable sole weights

High resistance to twisting (MOI)

Hollow carbon fiber sole plate

TPU face insert with microgrooves

Stock shaft: KBS CT Tour

Stock grip: Lamkin Jumbo Sink Fit Pistol

Tour Edge recasts their putter offering with six mallets in the 700 series with something for everyone and they explained the 700 series is the result of two years of work making improvements to the original Wingman models.

The family is comprised of three shapes with each having two different distributions of weight designed to fill the individual stroke characteristics and preferences of a range of players.

* Mallets 701 mid (30°) toe-hang and 702 face-balanced with a large sole and perimeter weighted wings for highest MOI of the family

* Mallets 703 mid (30°) toe-hang and 704 face-balanced with weights closer to face in a relatively compact head

* Mini-mallet 705 Mid (30°) toe-hang and 706 center shafted have shorter heads for more blade-like feel and have weights located near the face

Engineers added a carbon fiber sole plate which, by replacing the usual metal sole plate pushed weight to the outside, further helping the Wingman resist twisting on off-center impacts. Hosels range from the mid toe-hang of the 701, 703 and 705 to the double bend of the 702 and 704. The 706 is the only center shafted model.

The two sole weights each version are a stock 3-grams, but to assist users in compensating for individual putting stroke idiosyncrasies an optional weight kit will be available soon with two 8-grams and two 15-gram weights. This will allow the user to customize the Wingman to individual preference particularly if pulling or pushing putts is a problem.

“The result of our two-year revamp is six new putter models that represent some of the highest MOI putters on the market, and that are absolutely going to help you reduce the number of putts you are taking in a round,” added Glod.

Tour Edge uses a hollow carbon sole plate in the Wingman 700 series. This affects the feel in two different ways.
