Cabo San Lucas Mexico Port Guide

This sleepy fishing village turned celebrity vacation haven is known for its snorkeling, coral reefs galore, and a nightlife that rivals the biggest party destinations in the world. Located at the southern end of California’s Baja Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is growing in popularity, attracting everyone from Hollywood stars to nature lovers with its tropical ease and natural beauty. Fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their catch of the day to local restaurants, who will grill your fish onsite for you. On a Mexican Riviera cruise , a stop in Cabo San Lucas isn’t complete without a margarita or a wildly-popular local tequila tasting.

While on your Cabo cruise, don’t miss iconic sites like El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, where tourists flock to catch the sunset glittering off the massive arch-shaped rock formation. Snorkel and see the coral reefs along the Sea of Cortez, or do nothing but sunbathe at Lover’s Beach. When you need a slower day away from the incredible beaches and nightlife of Cabo San Lucas, head north for a day trip to the Todos Santos for art galleries, sleepy cafes, and a relaxed vibe.

Top sights & attractions for cruises to cabo san lucas, el arco de cabo san lucas.

On your cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, put $10 up for a water taxi from the marina to El Arco—it’s worth it. As one of the town’s most recognizable sights, this rock formation at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula provides unforgettable views of the Pacific Ocean unfolding for miles before you. Look out for sea lions and other wildlife at El Arco.

Lover’s Beach

While you’re sightseeing El Arco, tell your boatman to drop you at nearby Lover’s Beach. It’s not as secluded and romantic as the name implies, but it offers beautiful swimming and snorkeling opportunities. Come earlier in the day to beat the crowds, and bring sunscreen, as the beach is mostly unshaded.

Divorce Beach

Take a five minute walk from Lover’s Beach to Divorce Beach, but don’t worry—there’s no symbolism here. Divorce Beach is known for much more turbulent waters and a strong rip tide, so it’s not recommended for swimming. However, it’s a little less crowded as a result. Come to Divorce Beach for more space to sprawl out on your beach towel and get some sun.

See incredible coral reefs at this Mexican National Marine Park, perfect for travelers staying for a little extra time in Cabo San Lucas. It’s about a two and a half hour trip from the town’s main stretch, or just sixty miles north. Cabo Pulmo was vulnerable to intense overfishing, and was only declared a protected site in 1995. Today, it’s a beautiful place to windsurf, swim, or dive alongside manta rays, eels and other natural sea-life.

View All Cabo San Lucas Shore Excursions

Top things to do in cabo san lucas, ride a camel on the beach.

Kids and adults alike will find that a tour of Cabo San Lucas atop a camel is a pretty magical way to experience the tropical California Baja region. Most tours include round-trip transportation and even tequila tastings or tortilla making classes for a full day of can’t-miss experiences.

Go Sport Fishing for Marlin

Cabo San Lucas isn’t called “the marlin capital of the world” for nothing. The area is famous for sportfishing. Whether you’re solo or in a group, sportfishing operations are widely available to take you on an excursion to the Pacific Ocean or the Sea of Cortez for a great catch. Research which restaurants will cook whatever you’ve caught, and you’ve got lunch or dinner already set.

Whale Watch in Cabo San Lucas

Whale-watching in Cabo is a big deal—from December to April, gray whales and humpback whales migrate along the Baja Coast. This is the perfect excursion for wildlife lovers and kids. You’ll also learn a lot about how the environment of Cabo San Lucas is perfectly tailored to welcome these creatures to its shores.

Take a Day Trip to Todos Santos

If you happen to have extra time while on your Cabo cruise, take a road trip to Todos Santos, only about an hour from downtown Cabo San Lucas. Todos Santos is slowly waking up to tourism. Once a quiet fishing village, it’s now home to boutiques, art galleries, and colonial cobble-stoned streets. Good for a day trip, but head back to Cabo San Lucas for nightlife.

Solomon’s Landing

Address: past the El Tesoro Hotel Lobby, Cabo San Lucas 23456, Mexico

Address: Calle Libertad 806, Col. Lienzo Charro, Cabo San Lucas 23410, Mexico

For local seafood at a moderate price range, try Neptuno’s, whose menu boasts fresh ceviche, stuffed clams, sea bass, coconut shrimp, red snapper, and more. This small, shack-style atmosphere is unpretentious and casual.

Pancho’s Restaurant and Tequila Bar

Address: Hidalgo & Emiliano Zapata S/N | Colonia Centro, Cabo San Lucas 23450, Mexico

Pancho’s red building and glowing neon sign is instantly recognizable as you arrive. Book a tequila tasting at Pancho’s to learn the history and tricks of the tequila trade. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the menu at Pancho’s has everything from chips and fresh guacamole to grilled lobster tail or filet mignon.

Sunset Point

Address: Carretera Transpeninsular KM 6, Cabo San Lucas 23410, Mexico

If you’re looking for a romantic, upscale dinner for date night in Cabo San Lucas, head to Sunset Point. Highly rated for its gourmet pizzas and its sunset views of the water, Sunset Point also offers a spin on classic Italian, from Italian “tapas” to dessert-inspired cocktails.

Culture & History of the Cabo San Lucas Cruise Port

There is evidence of humans living in Cabo San Lucas and the surrounding areas for at least 10,000 years, beginning with a group called the Pericu, who were hunter gatherers relying on the marine life. The Baja California peninsula Cabo San Lucas grew as a fishing village, and the early 20th century saw unprecedented tourism growth as the destination was discovered for its beautiful geography, marine life, and scuba diving, among other activities.

Cabo San Lucas Port Facilities & Location

There isn’t a terminal on your cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, so cruise ships bring their passengers into the port in smaller boats. Make sure to allot extra time when you’re headed back to your cruise ship so you can be safely brought back to your ship. It’s about a ten minute boat ride from your cruise ship to the marina, and from there you can walk to downtown Cabo San Lucas along the waterfront. You’ll find ATMS nearby, a flea market along the waterfront to quickly pop in for whatever you need, and vendors lining the streets eager to talk with passing tourists.

Transportation in Cabo San Lucas

A walk from the pier to the center of Cabo is only about 15 minutes, but plenty of transportation options exist for you if your legs are tired. Try a water taxi from the cruise pier to Medano Beach or to Pelican Bay. Glass bottom boats are often available too. This is a good way for a small group to get to El Arco or the beach with little trouble. You can also hail a taxi from the marina to get to the center of town, or any destination in town you need. If you have a while in port and want to explore beyond the town proper of Cabo San Lucas, you can rent a car with Budget, Alamo, or National car rental services.

Shopping Near the Cabo San Lucas Cruise Port

After taking a boat from your cruise ship into the pier, haggle with vendors at the flea market near the boardwalk for souvenirs and memorable trinkets. You’ll find jewelry ships and leather wares, Mexican pottery, and boutiques along Boulevard Paseo de la Marina, just one street over from many of the docks. You’ll find more shopping available in downtown Cabo San Lucas as well.

Local Currency & Tipping Customs

Carry a little bit of cash to cover tips, small purchases, or taxis while you’re in Cabo San Lucas. You’ll find ATMs all over, and credit cards are recommended for purchases at boutiques or more expensive places. Pesos are the official currency of Cabos San Lucas, but U.S. dollars (USD) is accepted in many establishments throughout the town too.

We provide a real pirate experience in every inch of this spectacular 86 foot long wooden ship. A spacious deck between its two masts afford a comfortable ride to the secluded bays where snorkeling becomes an unforgetable escapade. On whale season we'll present what we hope will be picture perfect encounters with those gentle giants.

Buccaneer Queen has also served as stage for many commercial spots and in 1995 made the debut in Hollywood in the movie “Cutthroat island” starring actress Geena Davis in which some areas are used to film the ship on deck and saloon. In 2001 having already landfall in Baja California Sur, Cabo San Lucas by tradition hiding many pirates like Francis Drake and Thomas Cavendish in 1560 and 1600 becomes a great attraction of the destination a ship full of history and magic. Today everyone can enjoy this legendary vessel and its entertaining tours that everyday we offer our visitors, true adventures of which you can be the protagonist. Beautiful experience! We had so much fun as a family and my little one enjoyed it as well. All the staff on board were very accommodating and attentive to what we needed. The trip includes a closer look at El Arco to take pictures, you have a chance to snorkel, dance, hang out on the ship and th food and drink are also included, which is a big plus with little kids. The food was good for being on a pirate ship and the drinks we had were really good too, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. As someone mentioned before, they do sell pictures on board if you would like to purchase them, but its optional and the gentleman taking the photos did not seem upset when people on board would decline to purchase. All the "pirates" were amazing in taking care of us on board and I would definitely go on the Buccaneer Queen again when visiting Cabo.

Long Beach, Ca, USA

Amazing experience! Open bar, food was delicious and the performance was unreal. Vegas quality show, the gymnastics, acrobatics and combination of dance made this a performance I would like to see again.

If the glove fits …

On Thursday, news broke that O.J. Simpson died at age 76 after a battle with cancer.

He’s remembered for his past in the NFL and his stint in Hollywood – but, he’s most infamous for his 1994 televised police chase in his white Bronco , his 1995 murder trial and subsequent acquittal for killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman and his relationship to the Kardashian family.

Before the Kardashians became the most famous family in the world with a reality TV empire, they already had deep ties to the athlete and his late wife.

The Kardashian family posing for the camera during a family vacation with OJ Simpson and his then ex-wife Nicole.

In this 1994 snap, the Kardashian family can be seen with O.J. and Nicole during their Easter vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Kim, Kourtney and Khloe are all shown smiling. O.J., Nicole, her sister Dominique Brown, and the Simpson children, Justin and Sydney, are also in the photo. Rounding it out are Kris Jenner and her then-spouse, Caitlyn Jenner.

Nicole would be killed just three months later, in June of that year.

OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson.

Robert Kardashian Sr. was his lawyer — having become friends with Simpson in colleg e — and ultimately got Simpson acquitted, in a controversial ruling that “The View” deemed “an injustice ” on Thursday.

The families were so close that Khloe even said she grew up calling him “Uncle O.J.” and Nicole “Aunt Nicole.”

In the documentary “Who Killed Nicole?” Simpson’s former manager Norman Pardo claimed that Simpson bragged about having an affair with Kris while they were each married to their respective spouses, Nicole and Robert.

There were even rumors that Simpson was Khloe’s real father, which Kris has denied.

In a 2015 interview with  ABC News’ “20/20 ,” Lawrence Schiller, author of “American Tragedy: The Uncensored Story of the O.J. Simpson Defense,” claimed that before his Bronco freeway chase on June 17, 1994, Robert Kardashian Sr. found Simpson sitting in Kim’s childhood bedroom recording “a suicide tape” and holding onto photos of Nicole and their children.

“Then O.J. said, ‘I’m going to kill myself in this room,’ and I said, ‘You can’t. This is my daughter’s bedroom,’” Robert told Schiller in a past recorded interview. “‘My little girl Kim sleeps here. I can’t have my little girl in this bedroom, and every time I come in here, I’m going to see your body lying in this. You can’t do that.’”

Robert Kardashian and OJ Simpson.

Here’s a look back at the what the top reality TV family has said about OJ Simpson through the years.

Kris Jenner

Robert Kardashian Sr., who died of cancer in 2003, married Kris Jenner in 1978 and had daughters Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and son Rob, before their 1991 divorce (Kris then married Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn, in 1991 and the couple had Kendall and Kylie before their 2015 divorce).

“The only thing I discuss with [Robert] is the children, we just keep it about the kids,” she told Good Morning America in September 1995. “Because I think what would happen is our opinions are so obviously black and white, that what is that going to do?”

During a 2009 interview with Dr. Phil, Kris said that Robert wrote her a letter before the trial. According to Kris, he said, “’Look, I know you don’t agree with what is going down here, but this is what I have to do for my friend.’”

Robert Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and kids Rob, Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe.

Kris further said that the trial was “devastating” for her family.

“You have Robert Kardashian on the defense team defending [O.J.’s] team, and you have me, my girlfriend’s dead,” she said, since she had been close with Nicole Brown Simpson, who O.J. was accused of murdering along with her friend Ronald Goldman.

“It was a very difficult situation and what we needed to do was band together as a family and decide that this isn’t going to tear us apart.”

OJ Simpson, ,Paula Barbieri,Kris Kardashian Jenner, and Caitlyn Jenner (then Bruce).

Kris also said that she believed Nicole Brown Simpson.

“Nicole had been beaten up by O.J. and she had been keeping this physical proof in the form of photographs and, it would turn out, other evidence, in which she had documented 17 years of abuse,” Kris wrote in her 2011 memoir, “Kris Jenner … and All Things Kardashian.”

Kris has slammed rumors that she had an affair with O.J., and that he was Khloe’s father,

“They printed a story that I was sleeping with O.J.,” Jenner said on a 2019 episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

“That f – – king piece of s – – t. It’s really kind of pathetic that when rumors get started the media gives it life and breath and on the anniversary of Nicole’s death. It’s so tasteless and disgusting.”

Kris Jenner.

Caitlyn Jenner

“Obviously he did it, and he got away with it, and at one point he even told Nicole, ‘I’ll kill you and get away with it ’cause I’m O.J. Simpson,’” Jenner alleged, according to an excerpt of the “Big Brother VIP” broadcast  posted to YouTube  in 2021.

The Fox News contributor also told Jimmy Kimmel that she  hadn’t seen O.J since Nicole’s funeral  in 1994 and even once  banned the Kardashian-Jenner kids from talking about O.J.  after the trial.

“That night the verdict came in, Kourtney and Kimberly were in school and obviously they loved their father — and they should — and they’d been following this for a year and a half,” Jenner explained on UK reality series “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!”

Caitlyn Jenner.

In her memoir,  “The Secrets of My Life,”  Jenner wrote about the famed O.J. trial and claimed the late Robert Kardashian Sr., who served as one of Simpson’s defense attorneys during the proceedings, suggested that he believed the running back committed the crimes.

“‘I would’ve been OK with it if they had gotten him in the first trial,’” Jenner claimed Kardashian told her. “The implication was obvious that he believed O.J. was guilty.

“I believe [Simpson] got away with two savage murders.”

In her book, she also called Simpson, “the most narcissistic, egocentric, neediest ass in the world of sports I had ever seen.”

On Thursday, after news broke about Simpson’s death, Jenner posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Good Riddance #OJSimpson.”

Caitlyn Jenner.

Khloe Kardashian

“O.J. was always our Uncle O.J., Nicole was my Auntie Nicole,” Khloe, who was 9 at the time of the trial, told “E! True Hollywood Story” in 2009.

“You don’t really know what to believe or how to perceive it … It’s sad to see your parents go through so much pain for trying to be true friends.”

In 2016, she told “Access Hollywood,” that “Kourtney and Kim would go to court with my dad all the time. They were much more involved. We were kids. I think I was 8 or something, so we’re all sheltered from that … So, I don’t remember it as vividly as Kourtney and Kim do.”

However, Khloe has refused to publicly say if she thought OJ was guilty.

During a 2017 appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” Khloe participated in a segment called “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts,” in which celebs had to answer questions, or else eat a disgusting food.

When Corden asked, “Do you think OJ did it?” Khloe consumed a fish eye rather than answer that question.

OJ Simpson.

Kim Kardashian

“I definitely took my dad’s side. We just always thought my dad was the smartest person in the world, and he really believed in his friend,” Kim told Rolling Stone in 2015.

In October 2020, Kim told David Letterman, “My mom was extremely vocal on her feelings — she believed that her friend was murdered by him and that was really traumatizing for her.”

She said the situation “tore my family apart” at the time, because, “Then we’d go to my dad’s house and it was a whole other situation there.”

She added, “I just respect his children,” referring to O.J. and Nicole’s kids, Sydney, 38, and Justin, 35.

“So if I were to say something that would hurt someone’s feelings publicly — unless they’re coming for me and I have to defend myself or a family member — then I’m aware,” she said.

Kim Kardashian.

However, despite saying that she wouldn’t comment on it, when she hosted “Saturday Night Live” in October 2021, in her monologue, she said, “It’s because of [my father] that I met my first Black person.”

“Want to take a stab in the dark at who it was? I know it’s sort of weird to remember the first Black person you met, but O.J. does leave a mark or several, or none at all,” she went on. “I still don’t know.”

Nicole’s sister, Tanya Brown, slammed the joke as being, “in poor taste.”

South Carolina Man with Dementia Goes Missing in Mexico During Royal Caribbean Cruise with Family

Edmund Solomon disappeared Wednesday afternoon in the area of Passion Island in Mexico, according to local authorities

  • A South Carolina man has gone missing in Mexico while on a Royal Caribbean cruise with family
  • Police said Edmund Solomon, 66, was reported missing Wednesday after disappearing in the area of Passion Island that afternoon
  • Solomon reportedly has frontotemporal dementia, which is said to impact behavior more than memory

An American tourist with dementia has gone missing in Mexico, triggering a multi-day search.

Edmund Solomon, 66, was reported missing at 8:17 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 3, according to a Facebook post from Cozumel Civil Protection .

The man’s wife said her husband, who has “advanced dementia,” was wearing a collar with a GPS device to monitor his location when he disappeared in the area of Passion Island, per the Facebook post.

Solomon, who also goes by the name Brad, was “vacationing with family on a Royal Caribbean” cruise when he “wandered off by himself” around 1 p.m., Marissa Aldridge, who has worked with Solomon's wife, wrote in the description of a GoFundMe campaign she started for the couple.

Savannah Miller, the South Carolina man's daughter, said Brad had gone to the restroom at the cruise ship’s terminal when he disappeared, according to NBC affiliate WCBD-TV and ABC affiliate WCIV .

“When my stepmom, Mimi, came out, he wasn’t there,” Miller explained. “She thought he might still be in the bathroom so she waited for him for a few minutes. He didn’t come out.”

Miller said Brad was recently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, which impacts behavior more than memory, according to WCBD-TV.

“He sometimes says odd things and behaves erratically — or oddly — because he’s just doing what he knows how to do,” Miller noted. “He can’t process the same way you or I can.”

Authorities said a taxi driver called 911 and reported picking up a foreign tourist who matched Brad’s description on the road to La Pasión island, according to Mexico News Daily .

Brad is believed to have entered the taxi on 65th Avenue around 2:30 p.m., asked to be dropped off at a road with access to the beach and later paid with a wristwatch.

Both Brad and his wife Mimi are nurses who “dedicated their lives and careers to helping others,” Aldridge said on GoFundMe. Mimi, who works at the local VA Hospital, is also a recent breast cancer survivor.

“Between cancer and dementia, they have been through so much in the last few years,” Aldridge wrote, “and yet Mimi still shows up everyday to take care of others.”

In a statement, Royal Caribbean said they are “working closely with local law enforcement, who is continuing the search” for Brad, according to WCIV.

“Our care team is providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time,” the cruise line added.

Royal Caribbean did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
