Concert news

Shania twain rides into houston to reclaim her throne on upcoming world tour.

Shania Twain

Shania Twain will play at Dos Equis Pavilion on July 21, 2023 as part of her Queen of Me Tour.

Country music star Shania Twain is embarking on an expansive world tour dubbed the Queen of Me Tour , which will come to Dos Equis Pavilion in the Houston area on July 22, 2023 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.

The Houston date is one of the last of 44 North American concerts currently scheduled on the tour before Twain heads to Europe for five final shows. In addition to Dallas, she will also play in Houston on July 21.

This is Twain's first tour in nearly five years; she last played in Houston in June 2018. She'll be joined on the tour by a variety of well-known current female stars; Arlington native Mickey Guyton will be her special guest in both Houston and Dallas.

The tour was announced in conjunction with the news of the upcoming release of her new album, also called Queen of Me , due out on February 3, 2023. Her first album since 2017, it is also the first with her new record label, Republic Nashville.

The sales of that album will add to her record of being the best-selling female artist in country music history, a record she's achieved despite releasing only five albums in her 30-year career.

Twain has remained a star all these years thanks to three massive albums - 1995's The Woman in Me , 1997's Come On Over , and 2002's Up! - each of which sold over 11 million copies in the U.S. alone. She also has seven No. 1 hits and eight more top 10 hits from those three albums.

Tickets for the tour will go on sale starting 10 am Friday, November 4 at LiveNation.com. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning 10 am Tuesday, November 1 until 10 pm Thursday, November 3 through the Citi Entertainment program .

'Hidden' Galleria-area sushi restaurant names new chef to evolve its tasting menu

Dubious study by usa today says newcomers to texas should bypass houston, talented chef leaving after 18 years at iconic houston tex-mex restaurant, movie review, ripped jake gyllenhaal is the best part of stilted road house remake.

Within the first five minutes of Road House , Elwood Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) “wins” a fight just by showing up and then intimidates another man who has just stabbed him by using just his words. A musclebound man not having to actually be violent is a solid start for the remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze movie , but as it turns out, it’s also the movie’s high point.

The film, streaming exclusively on Prime Video, doesn’t follow the exact plot of the original movie, but might have been better off if it did. In this version, Dalton is a down-on-his-luck former UFC fighter winning money in underground fights. That’s where Frankie (Jessica Williams) finds him, inviting him to be the bouncer at her road house in the Florida Keys to help control the rowdy clientele.

Dalton does his job a little too well once he arrives, sending a steady stream of toughs to the hospital, where he meets ER doctor Ellie (Daniela Melchior). He soon discovers that the near-constant fighting at the road house is not just people acting out while drunk, but a plot by local entrepreneur Ben Brandt (Billy Magnussen) to drive the place out of business so he can build a resort on the prime property.

The filmmakers – director Doug Liman and writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry – have the clear intention of trying to make the film into cheesy fun, but they can’t seem to punch their way past just plain bad. Nothing makes sense in the set-up of the movie – why this town is full of aggro men, why multiple different bands continue to play music as the fighting rages, how Frankie can afford $5,000 a week to pay Dalton, and more. The movie moves from scene to scene quickly, so swiftly that it seems that the filmmakers don’t want the audience to think about anything too much.

Pretty much every character who isn’t Dalton comes off as strange, as if there was something in the water in the low-rent town that doesn’t allow them to act in a normal manner. The introductions for the characters are stilted at best, and the dialogue that Bagarozzia and Mondry have them say is just awful, with nothing coming close to being either clever or interesting. The script is so aggressively bad that it’s a wonder that a talented actor like Gyllenhaal would agree to be a part of the film at all.

Of course, the draw for a film like this is not characters talking, but the multiple fights between Dalton and anyone who crosses his path. While a few of them are solid, the random nature of the brawls prevents them from being effective overall. There is also some extraordinarily bad CGI used at certain points, moving characters or objects across the screen at lightning speed in a very distracting manner that offsets any excitement the scenes might otherwise have had.

Gyllenhaal’s ripped body is a special effect of its own, and he makes the most of his scenes despite the eye-rolling lines he’s occasionally required to say. Williams and Magnussen are better actors than they’re given a chance to be here. The inclusion of a non-actor like fighter Conor McGregor (Post Malone also makes a brief appearance) would normally be over-the-top fun, but his performance feels like it belongs it completely different type of movie.

Road House , which often seems to be as much about showcasing a series of random bands as it is about a seemingly invincible bouncer, comes nowhere close to matching the “so bad it’s good” nature of the original film. Instead, it’s just a bunch of quickly-edited scenes designed to give the impression that thrilling stuff is happening, a subterfuge that is easy to see past.

Road House is now streaming on Prime Video.

Shania Twain is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter originally from Ontario who is often affectionally referred to as "The Queen of Country Pop".

After Shania, real name Eileen Edwards graduated from Timmins High in June 1983 she quickly began her pursuit of a musical career after being involved with musicians and bands during her studies. She began experimenting with music yet following the tragic death of her mother and stepfather in a car accident she returned to her hometown to care for her younger siblings.

It was a number of years later that she released her solo album titled 'Shania Twain' through Mercury Nashville records which went on to chart at #67 on the US Country Charts. From this album, Shania's fame and success simply sky rocketed at an alarming pace that nobody could quite predict. 'The Woman in Me' debuted at #5 on the US charts and #6 in Canada, it featured a selection of country hit singles such as 'The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)', 'Any Man of Mine' and 'You Win My Love'. In total it featured six number one Country singles and two other top ten hits. It holds a two times diamond selling certificate in Canada and twelves times platinum selling in the States.

Her next album 'Come On Over' was an even greater success. It features two global hits of the 1990s, 'You're Still The One' and 'That Don't Impress Me Much' which charted around the world and turned Shania Twain into a household name. This album holds a twenty times platinum selling certificate in the US, a twelve times platinum in the UK and another double diamond in Canada. It is the highest selling Country album of all time. Shortly after the release of her 2002 album 'Up!' Shania was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame due to her huge musical success.

Her next album has been delayed for a number of years, she has since released a Greatest Hits package which featured three new tracks and in 2011 she reappeared with her first single in six years 'Today Is Your Day'. To date Twain has sold 85 million albums worldwide making her one of Country music's most successful female artists of all time.

Live reviews

Queen of country pop, Shania Twain, certainly knows how to put on a show. Currently a resident performer at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Shania is a real crowd pleaser.

This May I paid the venue a visit and boy did I enjoy the show! The opening number is truly spectacular. Three electric guitars jam along to the intro ‘Man I Feel like a Woman’ as strobe lights flash against a backdrop screen showing fire and explosions. Slowly, giant letters spelling the name ‘SHANIA’ descend from the ceiling. Then comes the distinctive trumpet blare and Twain announces in her trademark sultry tones, ‘let’s go girls!’ Stunning! What an opening to get the crowd going!

The show continues in a similar vein, with equally pleasing renditions of ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ and ‘I’m Gona Getcha Good.’ This show is guaranteed to get you singing and dancing along. I especially enjoyed the chance to let loose to my favourite tunes from my ’90s childhood!

Twain managed to lend the show an intimate feel in the huge arena, chatting to the audience between songs. The country queen even throws her hat into crowd during the final number, inviting whoever catches it to meet her backstage after the show! Shania Twain’s Caesar’s Palace show is one of the most fun nights out I’ve ever had and I’d thoroughly recommend checking it out.

Watching Shania Twain perform live is like watching an icon. Perhaps because it is watching an icon. Shania Twain is, without a doubt, the queen of Country. Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Twain has made a massive name for herself in the music industry and is one of the most famous names in Country music. Her style is really more Country pop, and her songs are catchy and fun. Even her ballads are catchy and her voice is undeniably beautiful and authentic. She performed all her greatest hits, including the massive ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman’ (which opened the show on a great note), ‘You’re Still the One’ and the highly anticipated ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’. The latter song was met with a tremendous uproar as the crowd went wild and started singing along so loudly and robustly that the entire venue was trembling with the force of it. Shania was accompanied with a team of brilliant musicians. The violinists were particularly brilliant. Shania herself owned the stage, running around and singing with such enthusiasm and confidence.

It's rumoured nothing impresses Shania Twain very much but luckily for her fans the live show impresses them plenty. The Canadian singer/songwriter is one of the world's highest selling female artists of all time with a universal appeal so as you can imagine, the touring obligations are pretty serious when you have a fanbase this large to reach.

Unfortunately her appearances in the UK are often dwarfed by her commitments to the States although when she does appear on the British isles, the fans turn out in force. She is an unarguable diva with a stage presence all of her own, she commands everybody else onstage including the musicians, the dancers and even some of the technical crew. Then you take a glance at the hit laced setlist and realise she has 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman' '(If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here!' 'Come On Over' and 'You're Still the One' to keep the crowds singing, dancing and cheering along with effortless ease.

Fun Concert. Tons of ladies in the audience for a girls night out feel, still some guys though. Shania's male band members were on stage at times for that extra feel. You can't help but dance by a few songs. From her earlier days to mid-career hits and a few later, the pickings were getcha good. When it comes to props, she was "going up" and I enjoyed her outfit changes and some pre-recorded screen coverage of her beautiful in satin. "I feel like a woman!" It was a great concert to celebrate my birthday in my prime. Boots for myself would have enhanced mirroring the event!

I had the best time of my life she was everything I expected and more it was a present for my 65th birthday and I certainly wasn't disappointed I loved every minute of it it was absolutely fantastic I couldn't walk after it for a couple of days but it was worth it I've waited 20 years to see her and she was as good as the day she started out and just as beautiful can't wait to see her again could have stayed there all night and we just got home from New Jersey that morning love love loved it

five outta five stars

She has NOT her style! From the moment she stepped out on stage she kept the momentum goin! The highlight was a polish guy proposed to his NOW fiancee twice once in Polish and then in English! They stayed "Up!" there for "You're Still The One" which is really sweet! From This Moment On was another beautifully song sung perfectly by the 1999 CMA Entertainer of the year! It's no wonder why she's Billboards #1 tour!

Her female drummer was HOT!! She can play with any guy out there hands down!!! I’ve been a Shania fan ever since she first came out years and years ago and this concert did nothing but make me a BIGGER fan!! 5 star rating easily

It was an awesome show. I love the fact that she entered through one of the seating sections and surprised the audience. The stage was visually spectacular with huge LED box screens and a great drummer and musicians.

She had amazing dancers who were also back up singers. The music was great and as always Shania sounded and looked spectacular. Even my husband loved the song. ❤❤

Beyond AMAZING! The energy level, the stage production, the dancers, the musicians, the opening act, and definitely the star herself

made the evening memorable. Loved the way Shania "connected" with the audience. Just wish the musicians names and hometowns were shared. Even if it was credits that scrolled at the end. Entertainer of the Year award worthy performance!

Superstar Shania Twain performed to a sold out crowd in Houston as part of the “Queen of Me” Tour and wow, she did not disappoint.

Fans brought their best outfits out for the night, from cowboy hats and boots, to recreations of Shania’s iconic looks, fans gave it their all for the event. The venue was packed tight, from the designated seats, to the lawn, you did not see an empty spot, it made people realize how big of a star Shania is. Support for the night came from Mickey Guyton.

It was finally time for the show to start. The lights went out and music started playing, “Waking Up Dreaming” started played, fans were looking confused at the stage wondering where Shania was only to find out she was in the crowd! The singer was up close and personal with fans, everyone was shocked and excited, no one saw it coming. She moved from one side of the venue to the other making sure as many fans were able to see her up close and personal, it was an amazing way to start the show. The lights went out again and the screens revealed a rocketship, a countdown began and as soon as “liftoff” was said, Twain appeared on stage performing “Up!” followed by “Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)”. Within the first 15 minutes of the show we were blown away, everyone was excited for what was yet to come.

The show was full of amazing visuals, from “TEXAS” being displayed among the big screen, to “Houston” being the sign for a salon, every visual was incredible.Twain continued her set with songs such as “Giddy Up!”, “Any Man of Mine” and “Honey, I’m Home”. There were many interactions during the show with Shania and fans. During one moment she brought a young girl on stage and invited her to sing! The whole crowd went “awwwww” and cheered for the girl. During “From This Moment On” multiple fans were onstage and Twain went and greeted every single one and took pictures with them as well, we know they will cherish that memory forever. The show continued with “Queen of Me”, “Pretty Liar” and “Rock This Country!”, Shania took a bow and excited the stage. Fans cheered her name wanting an encore, and they soon got their wish.

Shania came back on stage with a new outfit and immediately the fans started cheering in excitement, she sang “That Don’t Impress Me Much” as the first of two final songs of the night. Before singing the last song, Twain stated that the outfit she was wearing was the original outfit from the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” music video, she stated that the outfit was worn for the first time on this tour since the music video was released and she was excited for it to be seen. Fans knew what was coming next, and before you knew it “Let’s Go Girls’ ‘ was sung throughout the venue. Every single person in the venue was singing “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”, it was truly an incredible feeling. Twain thanked everyone for coming out to the show and gave a final bow. The show was incredible, from the production, to vocals to choreography, the show kept you entertained. If Shania Twain comes to a city near you, please make sure to attend, you will not regret it!

Shania Twain – Woodlands Pavilion – The Woodlands, TX – July 22, 2023 – Review

Written by Dave Clements

Obviously, there was a lot of her music and photos throughout the hour and a half program and each was very impressive and many iconic. I thought the film was shot recently yet for me there was a fairly significant disconnect between Shania of film and Shania on stage.

The Woodlands Pavilion show was Houston’s stop on her most recent Queen of Me tour. An outdoor venue, a Sunday night and possible unprecedented heat didn’t keep anyone from making a ticket purchase in the first thirty minutes that tickets went on sale over a year ago. It sold out that quickly and given Shania’s stardom as both a Country and Pop artist that was no surprise to this reviewer. What was a surprise is that the person I photographed and watched didn’t look like the person on the TV show. She was very thin in a way that was almost concerning and also just didn’t have the same sound that, having just listened to many of her hit songs, I was expecting to hear.

Each song she did got the reaction that you would expect and likely had her feeling like she had given the audience what they came to see … leaving her fans feeling like they got their money’s worth. Her thousands of fans in attendance, mainly women, grabbed up the twelve thousand plus tickets available and perhaps there was one guy for every 100 women in attendance this night. Her audience seemed very receptive to her performance and I’m guessing most left feeling good about the evening and what Shania provided her legions of fans.

Before closing this review I would like to mention that the opener Mickey Guyton did a nice job kicking the evening off. The Texas sun was beating down on her yet she sucked it up and gave a very credible and enthusiastic performance. It likely helped that she hails from the Great State of Texas. Until next time please help keep live music alive every chance you have!

Shania Twain Announces 2023 Queen of Me Tour Dates

Shania Twain announced plans for a return to the road in 2023, building the Queen of Me tour around her upcoming album of the same name, joined by support acts including Kelsea Ballerini, Lindsay Ell, Hailey Whitters, Breland, Robyn Ottolini, Priscilla Block, and Mickey Guyton on various dates.

I am unbelievably excited to announce ‘Queen Of Me’ – the new album and tour. https://t.co/XNlVknuioT pic.twitter.com/2t8rxqaiA1 — Shania Twain 💎💎💎 (@ShaniaTwain) October 28, 2022

Tickets for Shania Twain Queen of Me tour dates are on sale beginning next week, open to the general public beginning Friday, November 4. Prior to that, presales will begin earlier in the week, including one open to Citi cardmembers beginning on Tuesday, November 1.

Queen of Me tour dates kick off in late April with two shows in Washington – first at Spokane Arena and then at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena. The tour then heads north of the border for eight straight dates, covering the western provinces of British Colombia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. It returns to the U.S. with stops in late May including Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. June sees a swing through eight dates in eastern Canada before the tour wraps its U.S. leg with July shows including Madison Square Garden in New York. After a break, the tour crosses the Atlantic for five September shows in the UK and Ireland.

The new album can be pre-saved/ordered and is expected to come out in February of 2023. The single Waking Up Dreaming has already racked up more than 2 million views since its debut on YouTube:
