30 ways to travel with jewelry and keep it all organized.

' src=

Traveling with jewelry is a nice way to stay stylish while traveling and accessorize your look without bringing dozens of outfits. But how do you keep it all organized without opening your bag to find a big, tangled mess?

We’ve scoured the Internet for the best hacks for traveling with jewelry and some offbeat ways to travel with necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets. Best of all, most of these don’t require you to buy anything, as a number can be found around your house.

Ways to Keep Your Jewelry Organized in Luggage

Mint tins for rings and earrings

1. Mint tin: Save those Altoids or Tic Tacs containers after you are done with them! They make for a great container for jewelry, especially when you add a cotton ball to protect them.

2. Hard sided jewelry cases: While they take up more room, cases like Caracaise, which looks like a briefcase with foam cushioning, and smaller versions with compartments for earrings, fully protect your items. Something like this on Amazon would work.

3. Drawstring jewelry cases: Another type of jewelry case is the pouch, which you can buy or make yourself . This allows you to place all of your items on a circular piece of fabric that has strings that pull it into a pouch. It’s better suited for everything but necklaces.

4. O-Rings: Metal ring clips that are used for crafts and school projects can also be used for rings, bracelets and necklaces. Simply open it, slip them on, and pack! See these on Amazon .

Use straws to keep your necklaces from tangling.

5. Drinking straws: Prevent your necklaces from getting tangled. Simply thread one side of the chain through a plastic straw and attach at the other end. It keeps one side rigid and tangle-free.

6. Pill containers: Do you have a days of the week pill organizer? Use it to separate rings and earrings on-the-go. You can use one you have at home or purchase from your local pharmacy for around $5.

7. Travel toiletry containers: Use those extra GoTubbs , snack cups and other travel containers to store small jewelry items. They’re ideal for rings and earrings that won’t be affected by tangling.

8. Cling Wrap: Ideal for necklaces, you can prevent tangling by lying the items out on one piece of the “ Press N Seal ” style and pressing them together, making sure to give space between them. You should be able to find it easily at the grocery store, but standard cling wrap will also work if you roll it.

travel jewelry roll

9. Jewelry rolls: Organize your items through zippered compartments and a large panel that folds over and ties to keep from getting tangled. Buy online or make your own using these instructions . They also take up little room since they lie flat.

10. Ziploc bags : If you have plenty of bags, place one item in each bag with end of the necklace zipped in the top. Rings and earrings can be placed into bags together.

11. Washcloth and rubber bands: I love this idea from Pinterest about how to make your own jewelry roll without buying or sewing anything. Simply place your necklaces apart on a washcloth, roll them lengthwise and fold in half, adding rubber bands to each end to keep them secure.

12. Erasers: Keep the backs to your stud earrings from getting lost in transit by sticking them in a simple eraser leftover from your school days.

bead organizers for jewelry

13. Craft store bead organizer or fishing tackle container: These are basically the same but are marketed differently. Either way, seek out a clear plastic container with removable compartments. That way, you can change them out for your specific items.

14. Travel soap dish: Store bracelets, earrings, and rings in a travel soap dish that you can pick up at just about any store. It can protect everything and keep it in one place.

15. Contacts case : These work for almost everything, specifically small earrings. Use a container you no longer have a use for.

16. Styrofoam plate: Simply stick your earrings through the plate, which is best for studs and dangling earrings. Then you can throw it in your suitcase, surrounded by other things.

carabiners work well for rings

17. Carabiners : You really can use them for everything! These cheap items can be used for bracelets or even necklaces by simply clipping them on.

18. Toilet paper roll: Once you’ve used it all, loop your bracelets around it and then strand your necklaces through the tube itself. Place on top of your suitcase for the best results.

19. Baseball card holders : Remember those plastic divider pages you’d use to protect baseball cards or other collectibles? They also are great for separating your jewelry. Place each item in its own pocket.

20. Glasses case: Once you’ve grown out of a pair of glasses, use your glasses or sunglasses case for bracelets, earrings, and smaller items.

Old buttons are small and easy to pack with earrings.

21. Buttons: Keep those earring backs safe by threading them through those extra buttons you’ve been saving from every shirt.

22. Safety pins: Loop your hoops or dainty necklaces through a safety pin like you would with the carabiner.

23. Zippered pouches: You can buy these in satin varieties in Asia or at stores like the Container Store in the US. Small pouches of any variety will do for bracelets and earrings.

24. Socks : A member of our HPLWorld community recommended using socks for rings. You can place items inside since you’ll already be packing them.

empty lip balm tubes hold jewelry

25. Empty lip balm container: This one is specific to the Eos brand , but once you’ve used all the lip balm, they make a great earring container. Pop them in your purse for safekeeping!

26. Hanging jewelry cases: Like jewelry rolls, these toiletry and cosmetic cases can also be used for jewelry. It allows you to keep organized while being able to see everything. Check this one out on Amazon.

27. Cupcake liners: Another recommended placing earrings in cupcake liners, either paper or foil, and then wrapping in foil or another item to keep everything in place.

28. Index cards: Push backs of earrings through or loop bracelets and necklaces around them.

Use business or playing cards to keep jewelry organized.

29. Business or playing cards: Like with index cards, you can organize necklaces by placing two small cuts in cards to wrap around tightly and keep secure.

30. Wine corks: Similar to erasers, use wine corks for earring backs.

Extra Tips for Traveling with Jewelry

We’ve mentioned it briefly in the intro, but choosing the right jewelry can be an easy way to take your outfit from day to night. Here are some extra tips to consider:

1) Pack a statement necklace. Something bold will take the attention off the clothing underneath, and it will trick you into feeling like you’re wearing a completely new outfit. Plus statement necklaces can dress up the most simple ensembles! (See our professional packing list for more tips.)

2) Pack cheap jewelry. It goes without saying that you should never pack any jewelry that you’d be upset with losing or having stolen.

How to Pack Jewelry for Travel

Last Updated: February 4, 2024

Packing for a trip can be stressful, and worrying about winding up with tangle of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in your luggage is often a major issue. The key to packing jewelry for travel is choosing versatile pieces that will work with the clothing you plan to bring, so you don't overpack pieces that you don't wind up wearing. Finding the right way to organize your jewelry so it doesn't get damaged or lost is also important. The right jewelry case definitely helps, but you can even use items from around the house to help keep all of your pieces tangle-free when it's time to travel.

Planning Your Jewelry for the Trip

Step 1 Choose your outfits and complementary accessories.

  • When it comes to jewelry that you wear daily, such as a watch or rings, settle on just one set to avoid overpacking.
  • It helps to choose a single metal for the jewelry that you’ll bring, so you don't need to bring gold and silver versions of staple items, such as your watch.

Step 2 Limit the number of pieces that you bring.

Organizing Jewelry for Packing

Step 1 Invest in a good jewelry case or roll.

  • You can use a bag that you already have as a jewelry organizer for your trip, such as an extra toiletry bag. However, because it won’t have jewelry-specific compartments, you’ll need to use other items to organize your pieces inside the bag.

Step 2 Roll necklaces up in a microfiber cloth.

  • Depending on the length of the necklace, you may need to trim the straws down to size with a pair of scissors.
  • You can use the straws for any necklaces that are thin enough to thread through them. For a chunkier necklace, you can use empty paper towel rolls.

Step 4 Store small jewelry items in a pill organizer.

Placing the Jewelry in Your Luggage

Step 1 Keep expensive or meaningful jewelry in carry-on bags.

How to Pack Jewelry for Travel | 22 Best Packing Methods

How to Pack Jewelry for Travel

Traveling means you have to pack and unpack a lot, and knowing how to pack jewelry for travel without tangling is a skill you have to master. Especially when it comes to something valuable and easy-to-lose when moving, like jewelry, it is really important to pack them securely. Otherwise, you’ll have to deal with a jumbled-up mess when you reach your destination.

That is a real pain, especially because you might end up destroying your jewelry when you try to get them untangled. To prevent that from happening, I have come up with this article to teach you how to pack jewelry for travel. If you are someone who loves staying stylish while accessorizing yourself with jewelry, you’ll find so many tips and tricks here that you can implement on your next trip.

I’ve scoured the internet in search of tips on how to pack jewelry for travel and compiled an in-depth list and some offbeat ways you can pack your jewelry. You’ll find some creative ways to pack your necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets that mostly don’t require buying any expensive jewelry organizers. Let’s get started!

How to pack jewelry for travel using traditional ways

The following are some of the most popular conventional methods that are appropriate if you’re constantly on the go and require a quick and effective way to pack your jewelry when you’re on the move.

01. Jewelry rolls

Jewelry rolls are a great way to reduce space while still ensuring the safety of all your valuables. If you’re a lady who’s always on the go, whether for business or pleasure, this is the jewelry packing strategy for you.

Jewelry rolls are often constructed of soft fabric or leather and include many zippered sections that may be used to pack various kinds of jewelry. Simply roll it up and secure it as the name suggests after you’ve sorted and packed your jewelry for travel.

02. Jewelry boxes

When traveling, jewelry boxes may be a real pain in the neck, particularly if they’re in your carry-on bag. Thus, it is not the best way, but if you have one at home, you can use it to pack jewelry for travel. This won’t save you as much space as a jewelry roll, but if you have the space in your suitcase, it’s one of the quickest and most convenient solutions available to you to pack your jewelry.

03. Individual jewelry pouches

When you buy a brand new piece of jewelry, it is often packaged in a charming little pouch or wallet. Despite the fact that you would assume they are just for show, there are many uses for them that make them worthwhile to have around.

When it comes to packing your jewelry for travel, you can use these little bags to keep your pieces organized and safe while on the road. Although this is not the most effective method when you have a large number of accessories to pack, it is a fantastic idea when you just have a few key pieces to bring with you.

How to pack jewelry for travel using DIY ways

How to pack jewelry for travel using DIY ways

The following are quick and easy ways to pack jewelry using items that are lying around your house. You’ll be surprised to see how innovative and easy these DIY ideas are.

04. Hobby boxes

A hobby box is a good alternative to a jewelry box. They come with a variety of compartments for separating your jewels. There are also several styles to choose from, so you can choose one that best matches your needs. You can get a hobby box from almost any department store.

05. Pill cases

If you don’t already own a pill case, you can get one for a very reasonable price. Small and fragile jewelry such as stud earrings and rings may be packed safely and securely in this container. You can store each one in its own compartment, which makes it easy to keep them all in order. As these containers usually have seven compartments, you can even plan what pieces you are going to wear each day.

06. Washcloth

Using a washcloth or a soft piece of cloth to store your jewelry is another efficient method to pack jewelry for travel. It is inspired by the jewelry roll, but it does not have any compartments, making it more suitable for necklaces.

Simply put a clean cloth flat on a table and place the necklaces one inch away from one another. Roll up the cloth, making sure that the necklaces are hidden in the folds as you go. Once the necklaces are wrapped up, use a clip, pin, or peg to secure the two ends together to prevent the necklaces from sliding out.

07. Plastic wrap

Another creative way to pack your jewelry is to use the plastic wrap that you already have in your kitchen. The advantage of this over the washcloth is that it is waterproof and can be used for many types of jewelry, not only necklaces.

The first step is to cut up a piece of plastic wrap large enough to hold all of your jewelry in one place. Put it on a flat surface, and make sure the sticky side is up. Place your jewelry on top of it, making sure there is enough room between each item.

To finish the job, cut the second piece of plastic wrap to the same size or larger and lay it on top of your jewelry with the adhesive side facing down. Press down on the plastic wrap to remove any air bubbles and secure the jewelry items in place. Seal the ends of the plastic wrap to ensure that nothing slides off, and then roll it up.

Another way is to use business cards as a background and then wrap each piece individually in plastic wrap. After that, place each in a Ziploc bag to secure them.

08. Packing paper

You can also use white, non-colored, or soft packing paper to pack jewelry for travel. Never pack your jewelry in a newspaper or on a printed piece of paper, as it can discolor fine metals.

09. Drinking straws

This is another item that you may already have in your kitchen, or at the very least, that you can simply get at a convenience store. Straws are excellent for storing necklaces that are thin and fragile.

Cut the drinking straw to the same length as the chain when it is closed. Thread the chain through the straw and clasp it tight, and there you have it! Tangle-free. You can then put the necklaces in a ziplock bag and carry them in your bag with no worries.

10. Ziplock bags

Another way to pack jewelry for travel is to store it individually in ziplock bags. Airtight ziplock bags can prevent sterling silver jewelry from tarnishing. You can use this method to pack non-silver jewelry as well. Since you are packing each piece of jewelry individually, you can keep them tangle-free, with all pieces together without misplacing any.

11. Toilet paper rolls

Given that toilet paper is already a necessary thing to have on hand while traveling, why not make good use of it? They work in the same way as drinking straws. However, they are better for big, bold necklaces, not smaller ones. They are an excellent choice if you just have a few statement necklaces to carry with you. Otherwise, you may end up stuffing your bag with tissue rolls.

12. Foldable hangers

The use of foldable hangers is another excellent method of packaging a statement that is too large and bulky. Wrap the necklaces around a hanger and put them in a suitcase, and you’re done.

It keeps the necklaces from becoming tangled and takes up little room in your bag. As soon as you get to your location, you can pull the hangers out of the suitcases and store them in the closet until you need to pack them again.

13. Cardboards

To make your earrings, just punch two holes in a piece of stiff card and insert your earrings through them. When wearing fish hook earrings, the backs of the earrings may be secured to your card so that they do not fall out. To be on the safe side, slip the card piece inside a plastic bag in case any earrings get loosened during transit.

14. Buttons

Take a piece of ribbon or cotton fabric. Place the buttons on the top of the fabric or ribbon. Attach your earrings to the ribbon or fabric by threading them through the buttonholes. Earrings that have earing backs should be closed at the back of the ribbon or piece of cloth. Then, roll it up gently and put it in a hand towel.

15. Mint tins

Small mint tins are ideal for storing little items such as rings, tennis bracelets, and stud earrings. The small size makes it simple and easy to stash a couple in your bag to keep jewelry organized and hidden. A pro tip is to place a cotton ball inside the container to prevent things from rattling about and being damaged.

16. Bead organizers

Even though these plastic storage boxes are designed for beads, they are ideal for storing a large number of earrings for a short period of time. You can put 1-3 pairs of small earrings or rings in each nook.

17. Styrofoam plates and cups

Pin your little earrings on the plate’s top section. The center and bottom parts may be used to pin the longer, more chunky earrings. All your earrings and clasped chains will fit this part. Then, put the pinned plate in a ziplock bag.

You can keep your necklaces in plastic cups or Styrofoam glasses. Wrap a piece of cloth over them to keep them from being tossed about in your baggage. This approach is an affordable and long-lasting way to pack jewelry for travel.

18. Soap holders

Soap holders are another item that can be found in your home and can be purchased at almost any store. You can use a soap holder to store earrings, bracelets, and rings. It can safeguard everything while keeping it all in one place.

19. Contact case

Everyone who wears contacts has a few extra contact cases lying around the house. Contact cases are excellent storage containers for small stud earrings, tiny hoop earrings, pendants, and rings while traveling. On each side of the case, you can place one piece of jewelry, and it will remain safe and protected from damage during your journey.

20. Secure cases

It is a good idea to keep all of your jewelry in one safe place when you travel, whether you use the box, it came in or a special jewelry organizer. After you have individually packaged everything to ensure that it does not get damaged or dinged, organize them all together in one place.

Secure cases come in handy when you don’t have enough space in your luggage to keep your jewelry organized while traveling light. If you travel constantly, you may want to invest in a travel jewelry organizer that can also be used as a storage box while you are at your destination.

21. Dustbags

After you pack jewelry for travel, you can use dust bags to sort them into separate containers or to group similar pieces. As an example, place all of your gold hoop earrings in one dust bag and all of your rings in a different one.

22. Bubble wrap

Bubble wrap is also great for securing your delicate jewelry pieces even more. Once you’ve packed everything using the DIY methods mentioned here, you can wrap those using bubble wrap for more security.

Wrap it up!

By now, you’ve learned so many creative methods for how to pack jewelry for travel. As you can see, packing jewelry for travel does not have to be a difficult or time-consuming task. If you look around your house and put some thought into it, you’ll be able to come up with even more fantastic ways to pack jewelry for travel. Stop tossing your favorite jewelry into a bag when you embark on a trip—it can quickly become tangled and scratched, damaging your most delicate pieces. A travel jewelry case solves this problem, offering a secure and stylish way to store your necklaces , earrings, and rings on the go.

When it comes to buying a jewelry case for travel, look for well-constructed pieces that “have several compartments to keep the pieces from touching each other,” says Bennett Beutel , the product lead at Tiffany & Co. He adds that by separating the pieces, you can limit any damage that may occur from them bumping into each other.

To find the best travel jewelry cases to suit every type of trip and traveler, we tested 25 options ranging in price and size and filled them with jewelry. We evaluated how easy they were to pack, how well they kept pieces in place, any notable organizational features, and their capacity. Whether you need to stash a few dainty necklaces or protect larger statement pieces, these cases will keep your jewelry in prime condition.

Best Overall Travel Jewelry Case

Mark & graham small travel jewelry case.

Mark & Graham

  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Performance 4.5 /5
  • Value 4.5 /5

This jewelry case can be personalized and has a built-in mirror to use on the go.

We wish the dividers in the main compartment were removable to allow for larger pieces.

This small square case is available in a range of classic and vibrant shades, which you can monogram to add a personal touch (whether for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for a jewelry-loving jet setter). It has a zip-around opening to glimpse all your pieces at once. Behind the handy built-in mirror, there are three hooks for necklaces or larger pieces—just note that it doesn’t keep them very secure.

The main compartment is ideal for ring lovers, with space to hold seven rings in the center. We wish the surrounding small compartments had adjustable dividers to fit more of our favorite pieces. The case is sturdy and maintained its shape when we jostled it around, so we feel confident that it would protect our pieces even if it got squished in our suitcase.

Dimensions : 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.25 inches | Storage Compartments : 6 | Material : Vegan pebbled leather, linen

Best Budget Travel Jewelry Case

Bagsmart jewelry organizer bag.

  • Performance 5 /5

It has a convenient carrying handle and ample organizational features.

The panel for earrings is flimsy and can only accommodate hoops along the edges.

At almost 10 inches long, this jewelry case is impressively roomy, with plenty of space for your go-to pieces. It features five compartments: a ring band that snaps on and off, a panel for earrings, five straps to secure necklaces, a zippered pouch for storage, and a side zippered pocket.

For all of its convenient features, the handle was our favorite—we loved that we could carry it like a purse or toss it into our carry-on luggage . This case is lightweight and compact even when filled beyond the recommended capacity. While we struggled a bit with the earring panel, as the holes are very close together and can only accommodate hoops at the edges, the hardware was overall durable.

Dimensions : 6.1 x 9.8 x 1.9 inches | Weight : 0.55 pounds | Storage Compartments : 5 | Material : Polyester

Best Large Travel Jewelry Case

Kendra scott medium travel jewelry case.

Kendra Scott

It’s spacious and easy to see all of your pieces at a glance.

There aren’t any hooks to hang necklaces from.

Crafted from high-quality PU leather, this elegant case features a removable zippered pouch and several sturdy and cushioned compartments to separate your jewelry, including a central section where you can safely secure rings and earrings. It’s simple and satisfying to pack—just drop your pieces into one of the compartments.

The clutch-like rectangular shape makes this a bit bulky for a carry-on or weekender bag, but it’s a perfect companion for checked luggage. Since it’s easy to see your pieces on display once you open them, we like this for at-home storage, too. Our only gripe is that there isn’t dedicated necklace storage, but the compartments are large enough to store necklaces in individual pouches.

Dimensions : 8 x 5.5 x 2.5 inches | Storage Compartments : 6 | Material : PU leather, polyester

Best Small Travel Jewelry Case

Vee & co. small travel jewelry case.

Despite its compact size, this case has a section to store every type of jewelry.

The included display mirror doesn't feel durable.

Travelers will love this case for its extensive organizational compartments, which give every piece its place to minimize scratching and tangling. We like the six plush ring pillows, three necklace hooks, and a built-in earring panel that borders the included mirror, but our favorite feature is the two removable dividers that you can adjust to accommodate delicate or chunky jewelry. The mirror is another convenient addition to this compact case, allowing you to try on different pieces or do your makeup—however, it seems less durable than the rest of the case.

Dimensions : 3.9 x 3.9 x 1.9 inches | Weight : 0.37 pounds | Storage Compartments : 6 | Material : Vegan leather, velvet

Best Round Travel Jewelry Case

Cuyana travel jewelry case.

The detachable earrings bar is perfect for dangling or hoop earrings.

There aren’t any individual hoops for necklaces, and storing them on the provided detachable bar can lead to tangles.

Toss this pretty, petite pouch into your bag or jacket pocket for your next adventure, whether you're road-tripping or hopping on an international flight. It’s palm-sized and convenient to carry thanks to its ergonomic design, and the soft suede interior will keep your pieces protected on the go.

While there are only a few compartments—two small pouches, plus a detachable bar to store your favorite earrings and another for rings or necklaces—we found we could fit several pairs of earrings, a few necklaces, and nine (yes, nine!) rings, among other small pieces of jewelry. Light packers will love that this space-saving pick weighs less than half a pound and allows you to customize the design, as you can remove the earring and ring bar to free up space for larger pieces.

Dimensions : 1.25 x 5 x 3.5 inches | Weight : 0.33 pounds | Storage Compartments : 4 | Material : Leather, suede

Best Travel Jewelry Case for Maximalists

Calpak jewelry case.

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5

The generously-sized drawstring offers enough space to store larger pieces, plus it has mini pockets on the inside.

It’s bulky and may be better suited to longer trips than weekend getaways.

Famous for its reliable, attractive luggage and travel accessories, Calpak is a go-to brand for frequent flyers—and this jewelry case is no exception. Jewelry lovers will rejoice at the sight of the drawstring pouch, which features ample space for statement bracelets, necklaces, chunky earrings, or watches. We love that it also has small pockets folded in, which helps to reduce any possible scratching and to maximize the space.

This large case has enough room to hold several rings on the snap-off ring bar and four necklaces on the detachable hooks—there's even a sturdy earring card ideal for studs and small hoops. Those who don't want to leave their favorite eye-catching pieces at home will appreciate carrying jewelry in this durable, faux-leather case.

Best Travel Jewelry Case for Minimalists

Levenger mini jewelry organizer.

  • Capacity 4.5 /5

This compact pick has necklace hooks, an earring and ring bar, and a zippered pouch, making it perfect for just the essentials.

The earring bar isn’t spaced far enough apart for wider studs.

Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, this ultra-lightweight and dainty case is ideal for anyone looking to keep a few favorite pieces from tangling or scratching without adding any bulk to their compact carry-on . Perfect for short trips or minimalists, this mini organizer has two hooks and a catchall pouch for necklaces, a small zippered pouch for bracelets or large earrings, a tiny removable ring bar, and a detachable earring bar that can fit two pairs of smaller earrings.

While we wish the stud holes were farther apart (you can only fit dainty studs or one pair of chunkier earrings), we could store larger hoops in the pouch. It comes in five colorful styles, and we found the leather exterior soft and scratch-resistant, while the suede interior helped protect our pieces.

Dimensions : 4.25 x 1 x 4.5 inches | Weight : 0.25 pounds | Storage Compartments : 3 | Material : Pebbled leather, microsuede

The Mark & Graham Small Travel Jewelry Case is our top pick thanks to its stylish and sturdy construction, handy mirror, and how well it kept our jewelry secure when we jostled it around during testing. If you're shopping on a budget, opt for the Bagsmart Jewelry Organizer Bag , which has five compartments for all your favorite pieces.

We tested 25 portable jewelry cases for this article, packing up each piece with the same array of jewelry—three necklaces, four earrings, three rings, two bracelets, and one watch—noting if it all fit or if we could comfortably add in even more pieces.

Next, we tested for durability and protective features by vigorously shaking the cases and throwing them up in the air and onto the ground, checking to see how securely they kept our pieces in place and whether anything became broken or tangled in the process.

Finally, we evaluated how easy it was to load pieces into the case or remove them, particularly regarding detachable ring rods and earring posters. The jewelry cases that scored the highest across our categories—ease of use, capacity, design, performance, and overall value—earned a spot on this list.

How to Shop for a Travel Jewelry Case Like a Pro

Depending on the type of jewelry you wear and the trips you expect to take, compare different case types to find the best pick for you. For short weekend trips, a small palm-sized piece should suffice. But if you're spending weeks abroad, you may need a large-capacity jewelry travel case with more organizational features.

If you have a lot of jewelry or prefer bigger pieces, opt for a case with plenty of compartments. For instance, those who frequently wear hoops might find that a small earring placard designed for studs won’t suffice—you’ll want ample pouches or zippered pockets that could hold your go-to earrings.

If you tend to travel with just the essentials—maybe a few dainty rings, thin necklaces, and small stud or hoop earrings—then a smaller case like the Levenger Carrie Mini Jewelry Organizer will do the trick. For statement jewelry lovers, a larger case like the Kendra Scott Medium Travel Jewelry Case can properly store your hefty pieces.

Storage Compartments

The best jewelry travel cases “have several compartments to keep the pieces from touching each other and to limit as much scratching as possible,” says Beutel. There are several compartment types too, including pockets, pouches, necklace hooks, ring pillows, and more. If you wear a lot of rings, consider a ring pillow or ring bar—the former allows you to remove them individually, while the latter requires you to remove the bar and the rings on it to select the one you want.

Beutel recommends cases with a hearty, protective exterior—think leather or PU leather—which will keep your jewelry safe in your bag even if it gets tossed around at baggage claim. For the interior, he prefers suede lining, as it’s non-abrasive and prevents scratching or dulling.

More Jewelry Cases for Travel to Consider

Mejuri Travel Case : Mejuri is best known for its dainty, everyday jewelry—and that’s what this tiny, trendy case is designed for. It’s great for minimalists and we love the streamlined design, but the price tag seemed too high for how little space it offers (there’s only room for four necklaces, three pairs of studs, and a few slim rings).

Bagsmart Jewelry Organizer Roll : This budget-friendly soft-sided case boasts a range of compartments to keep jewelry organized and can accommodate quite a range of pieces, but inherently offers less protection than a sturdy leather case. The inner material is also far less soft than the suede lining.

Questions You Might Ask

Is it ok to store all your jewelry together when traveling.

“From an organizational perspective, it’s definitely a good idea to have all your jewelry in the same place,” says Beutel, however, “every piece should be separated to a certain degree to avoid any potential scratching.”

Look for cases with hooks for necklaces, pillows or rods for rings, and small compartments or pouches for other large pieces to ensure everything has a designated place.

Can you use a jewelry travel case for everyday storage?

At home, keeping your pieces in their original packaging is preferred. “In an ideal world, one would pack their pieces in the original cases, but of course, that’s normally tough to do traveling,” Beutel says.

However, many travel cases can store your essential pieces at home and on the go, reducing the need to pack and unpack between trips. For extensive jewelry collections or statement pieces, consider a larger storage option designed for everyday use, which can typically accommodate and display more jewelry.

What are some alternatives to travel jewelry cases?

If you can't get your hands on a travel jewelry case before your trip, Beutel suggests rolling your jewelry in a soft cloth. “Nothing abrasive like wool or canvas," he says. "A hand towel or a shirt works wonders.” While these won’t provide as much protection for your pieces as a proper case, they can help prevent your pieces from getting damaged while in transit.

This article was written by Sophie Dodd , a contributing writer for Real Simple who covers travel, lifestyle, and home goods. To write this article, she evaluated our test results, which reflected our experiences with the jewelry cases after packing them with a range of pieces, tossing them around, and exploring how easy or tedious it was to put in and take out different pieces. She also spoke with Bennett Beutel , a product lead at Tiffany’s Jewelry Design and Innovation Workshop , about what to look for when shopping for travel jewelry cases and how to protect your pieces on the go.

Next to each product on this list, you may have noticed a Real Simple Selects seal of approval . Any product appearing alongside that seal has been vetted by our team—put through tests and graded on its performance to earn a spot on our list. Tips for Traveling with Jewelry

Diamond and sapphire jewelry in white gold displayed on travel jewelry boxes.

In This Blog

It’s the time of year when many of us travel to visit family and friends to share the holidays. Whether you’re traveling on a flight, taking a road trip , traveling on a bus, taking a train or going on a cruise, y ou may be looking to bring some of your favorite fine jewelry pieces along.

We’ve curated some of our favorite tips and tricks for traveling with jewelry. Discover secrets on how to pack jewelry for travel, suggestions for which pieces to bring on your trip and advice on how to keep your jewelry safe when you’re traveling.

Choosing Travel Jewelry Pieces

Packing your favorite women’s and men’s jewelry for your upcoming trip? It’s best to bring along items that are durable, such as 14k gold jewelry , platinum jewelry , silver jewelry or lab grown diamond jewelry . These materials are sturdy, bringing beautiful style no matter how far you’re taking them.

Keep safety in mind when choosing which pieces to bring on a trip. Certain journeys and destinations may not be best for bringing your favorite fine jewelry along. In these instances, costume styles are often the best choice.

How to Pack Jewelry

travelling to jewellery

There are several ways to pack your jewelry, from specialized cases to more DIY approaches. Wh en packing your jewelry, regardless of which technique you choose, keeping things secure should be your main goal. This will ensure that you don’t lose any items during your travels, along with helping to prevent tangling.

When packing jewelry, you should:

  • Use specialized storage, like a jewelry travel case.
  • Secure chains on necklaces and bracelets to avoid tangling.
  • Keep earring pairs together.
  • Separate fragile pieces, such as opals, from the rest of your jewelry.
  • Put similar materials together.
  • Use tissue, straws or tape to secure thinner pieces.

Some jewelry items, such as engagement rings , are worn throughout the whole trip and don’t need to be put in a travel jewelry case. If you’re packing an engagement ring in your luggage because you’re proposing on your trip, make sure to keep the ring in its original box and secure it in a locked section of your carry-on bag.

Types of Travel Jewelry Cases

A travel jewelry case can help you keep your pieces organized, secured and safe while you’re headed to your destination. Many cases have specialized storage s ections for earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets. You can choose from smaller storage cases for a small selection, or a larger case that can fit multiple styles together.

Pearl and diamond jewelry in a travel jewelry case.

It’s best to choose the case that fits your collection. For people traveling with mainly bracelets or necklaces , this may look like a case with loops that secure the full length of each piece to prevent tangling. For those traveling with more rings or earrings , the right travel case is one with tightly packed rolls that can secure a set of dangling earrings or several rings.

Most people who are traveling with jewelry choose to use a specialized jewelry travel case, with designs for all price points readily available online. Other people prefer to use the original packaging for their jewelry, which is especially helpful in instances where only one or two pieces are brought on a trip.

DIY Jewelry Packing Hacks

While travel jewelry cases are the most popular fit for packing your jewelry, there are also DIY options that can help you bring your favorite pieces along. Pill cases, cardboard tubes, business cards, tins, straws and carabiners are all solutions for packing your jewelry.

You can count on virtually anything for earring storage when traveling. Push your favorite pairs into an eraser to keep them all in one place. To transport your earrings with their backings, pierce your sets through a business card or piece of construction paper to keep them together. Smaller studs can also be put in pill organizers or metal tins for easy travel storage.

Necklaces and Bracelets

Pendant and chain necklaces require a little more planning if you’re taking the DIY route to packing them for travel. Keep your focus on preventing tangling so you can enjoy your jewelry at your destination. To keep chains from tangling, loop each necklace or bracelet through a straw and secure the clasp closed.

You can also use a cardboard tube, such as one from a paper towel or toilet paper roll, to keep necklaces and bracelets organized when traveling. Loop necklaces through the length of the tube and wrap bracelets around the width.

Taking a DIY approach to organizing your rings while traveling? Use small storage such as pill organizers, tins or carabiners to keep them in order. Designs in similar metals can be stored together, but more fragile styles such as cocktail rings should be kept on their own.

Questions and Answers About Traveling with Jewelry

  • Pack similar items together.
  • Use any storage features of your travel jewelry case.

  • Secure your jewelry in its packed location by clipping chains down and ensuring earrings are stored safely.

Travel Jewelry: What To Take and What Not To Take

Travel Jewelry

When you’re traveling, you want to look good and feel good. (The two are probably related!) And you certainly don’t want the hassle of worrying about losing precious jewelry or making yourself a target for thieves.

A sobering survey  conducted by Jewelers Mutual Insurance Group found that 20 percent of travelers experienced a loss or theft of fine jewelry, with only one percent of them recovering the lost item(s).

Experts say the beach is the most common place to lose precious jewelry

There are some common sense tips you can take to safeguard precious jewelry. In addition, think carefully about whether it may be more prudent to travel with costume pieces that you don’t have to worry about.

13 common sense tips for traveling with precious jewelry

An invitation to theft

1-  Be strategic about deciding what to take and what to leave home, and keep a list of what you’ve taken.

2-  Leave flashy bling at home if you really don’t need to bring it.

3-  Think twice about bringing irreplaceable keepsake items on your trip (e.g., your mother’s cocktail ring or the diamond studs you received as a gift for your 40th birthday).

4-  If you decide to take precious jewelry with you, never pack it in your checked bag. Instead, tuck it in a zippered compartment in your purse so you can keep your eye on it.

5-  A compact jewelry case can protect fragile pieces from breakage and keep everything you’re bringing in one place.

6-  Be cautious about placing precious jewelry (or other valuables) inside cruise ship staterooms or hotel room safes. Many of these safes aren’t as secure as you might think. Moreover, you run the risk of forgetting to empty the safe when you leave. (Tip: Some people suggest putting one shoe of a pair in the safe to remind you to look there before you leave your room.)

7-  As a rule, it’s usually safer to wear jewelry than to stow it. But be aware of the location where you’re leaving it and the destination.

8-  Be especially cautious in crowds, when using public transportation, or at any places where you feel at high risk.

9-  If you feel unsafe and are wearing precious jewelry, conceal your flashy diamond ring by turning it inside your hand so it isn’t visible, or tuck your fancy necklace under your sweater.

10- Be careful not to lose rings or other items at the beach or in the water.

11- Don’t remove rings or watches when washing your hands, and inadvertently leave them on your hotel room sink or in a public restroom.

12- Be sure to check your homeowner’s policy and any insurance riders to make sure you are covered for loss or theft of jewelry and that the policies are up-to-date.

13- If you’re traveling with any precious pieces, take photos of them on your cellphone before leaving home. In the event of loss or theft, the photos could be useful for filing a police report or making an insurance claim.

What is travel jewelry? An elegant solution

Pandora makes a lovely line that's suitable for travel.

Replacing precious with costume travel jewelry is an elegant solution. A few nice pieces, even if they are fake, can brighten up an outfit and put a bounce in your step.

While you’re shopping for yourself, remember that travel jewelry also makes a wonderful birthday or Bon Voyage gift for a friend or relative because it’s so personal, lightweight, and easy to pack.

Here are some tips for selecting travel jewelry:

1-   Try to stay under $100 when purchasing travel jewelry. Of course, losing anything on a trip makes you feel like kicking yourself. But you certainly don’t want to worry about losing something you can’t afford to lose.

2-   Keep all your costume jewelry pieces together, perhaps in a jewelry pouch or roll, so you can readily find what you want to wear.

3-   To simplify choosing and packing travel jewelry, stick to either silver or gold-toned pieces.

4-   Adding large statement pieces with splashes of color can liven up a dull outfit.

5-  Avoid heavy pieces that add weight to your carry-on or handbag.

6-  Remember to take off costume jewelry when you hit the beach or pool; sun, sand, and saltwater can shorten the life of these items.

7-  Handcrafted jewelry you find while traveling can make a wonderful souvenir to take home and add to your travel accessory wardrobe.

Cue our savvy organizing hacks that’ll make packing your shiny trinkets not just attractive but an absolute breeze. Say goodbye to tangles and lost baubles; we’re about to level up your travel game in style. Keep reading to discover the ultimate tricks for jet-setting with your favorite adornments like a pro!

Bling on the Go: Packing That Rocks

Ever stared at your stunning oval shape engagement ring bedecked with lab-grown diamonds and fretted about how to keep it safe and sound while hopping from airport to hotel? Fear not, intrepid explorer! We’ve got some game-changing tips that’ll turn you into a jewelry-packing ninja.

First off, let’s chat about compartmentalization—it’s your new BFF. Forget tossing all your precious adornments into one sad zip pouch; those days are over. Think sleek jewelry organizers with dedicated spots for rings, earrings, and necklaces. It’s like giving each piece its own VIP suite for travel. Plus, when you unzip your bag after a bumpy ride and find everything pristine and in place? Chef’s kiss!

Crafty Containers: From Mundane to Magical

Alright, so containers might not be the first thing you think of when you’re daydreaming about your next beach escapade. But trust me, the right ones are total game changers. Let’s get crafty and look beyond those yawn-worthy travel cases. Have you ever thought of using a pill organizer for earrings and smaller pieces? It’s genius—a compartment for each day means a spot for every stud or hoop.

And here’s where we turn ordinary household items into treasure keepers—snap bars or mint tins can become snug hideaways for your baubles on the move. Wrapped in soft cloth, these makeshift jewelry boxes aren’t just clever; they add an unexpected pop of fun to unpacking.

The DIY vibe is strong with this one, folks! Keep things fresh and functional and watch as those pesky “where’s my ring?” moments disappear into thin air. And if you’re keen to keep the costs of traveling down, as well as saving on airfare , you can reduce the expense of taking your jewelry with you if you handle this part yourself.

Strap In: Securing Your Sparkles

Now let’s lock down the safety of your sparkle swarm. Ever had that mini heart attack when you can’t feel your favorite pieces on you? Ugh, the worst. Time to introduce a little travel hack magic with something as simple as a strap—yes, a strap.

Get this: Those stretchy loops people use to keep their glasses in place? They also double as brilliant ring holders. Just slide ’em onto the strap and voilà! You’ve got yourself a makeshift security belt for those precious rings. It can snugly hug your pear-shaped pride and joy right next to your heart where it’s not only safe but also easy to admire throughout your adventures.

And don’t stop there—if we’re talking necklaces or bracelets, break out those twist ties from your kitchen drawer. Loop ’em through clasps and attach them directly to your travel bag’s interior pockets or dividers. Suddenly, you’re rocking a tangle-free jewelry situation even on the bumpiest of rides—and isn’t that just what every traveler needs? Keep it tight, keep it right—that’s how we roll.

Wrap Stars: Swaddle Your Bling

Time to get cozy with your jewels. We’re not talking thick vaults or bulky safes here—nope, we’re all about that soft touch. Enter the magic of microfiber cloths and bubble wrap—the unsung heroes of jewelry coziness.

Imagine this: each trinket lovingly swaddled in a microfiber embrace, keeping it scratch-free and content. Or picture those studs getting the bubble treatment, cushioned like precious cargo. It’s not just effective; it feels like you’re tucking in tiny treasures for a snug journey ahead.

Bubble wrap is easy to score and dirt cheap, while microfiber cloths double as cleaners – talk about a win-win! Just remember to pack these little nests into firmer containers—you’re creating a portable treasure trove that ensures everything arrives just as sparkly as when it left home base. So roll with us through Wrap Town next time you pack; your travel buddies will marvel at your bling-wrapping prowess!

Stealth Mode: Going Incognito with Your Ice

Alright, strap in—because now we’re getting sneaky with it. Traveling can sometimes mean prying eyes, and you definitely don’t wanna flash your bling around like you’re the main act in a ‘heist movie’. So how about a little camouflage? It’s all about looking fab while keeping those jewels under wraps.

Check this out: an old lip balm tube cleaned out and hollowed makes for the perfect undercover agent for tiny treasures. And that sweet pear shaped engagement ring? It could take a secret vacay inside an unassuming pen case. Meanwhile, repurposed candy tins can fly below the radar while giving your pieces a cozy ride to their next destination.

This stealthy strategy isn’t just clever—it’s fun! Plus, when you waltz past potential ne’er-do-wells unsuspectingly, you’ll have that smug satisfaction of being two steps ahead. After all, who would suspect that worn paperback book is actually clasping your favorite necklace within its pages? Go on and channel your inner secret agent; shake—not stir—the way you carry your jewels with flair.

Accessory Origami: Fold It Like It’s Hot

Now let’s get all artsy up in this travel scene. You’ve got the hacks for packing your shinies, but have you tried origami ? Not just a paper folding party trick—thoughtful folds can create custom, space-saving carriers for your accessories.

Think about transforming stiff cardstock into personalized jewelry envelopes—an elegant clutch for that special ring, or a tailor-made folder for those dainty chains. And here’s a hot tip: anchor pieces with small clear bands to keep them from rattling around inside their paper havens as you flit from one destination to another.

It doesn’t take being a black belt in origami—trust me. Some simple creasing and tucking skills will do the trick. Accessory origami could be your next jet-set hobby; it’s eco-friendly, customizable, and downright cute. Plus, whipping out these DIY jewelry packets at brunch is sure to snag some impressed glances from tablemates eager to learn your crafting kung fu!

Concluding Thoughts

So that’s the vibe, travel tribe—your guide to a fuss-free flaunt with your finery. By now, your packing game should be as sharp as the twinkle on your trinkets. Embrace these life-saving hacks and watch stress evaporate into thin air.

The 8 Best Travel Jewelry Cases of 2024, Tested & Reviewed

Take your organization game up a notch

travelling to jewellery

Byrdie / Kristin Kempa

The last thing anyone wants to do while getting ready (especially on vacation) is spending time untangling the necklace you’re planning on throwing on as you run out the door. Why Trust Byrdie

Best overall, pottery barn mckenna personalized jewelry binder.

Pottery Barn

Nice medium size

Has pockets, ring holders, and earring holders

Materials feel high-quality

Keeps jewelry in place well

Thin and easy to store

Can be personalized

This wallet-like design from Pottery Barn was crowned our best overall pick for a variety of reasons. First, the thin design is easy to store and travel with, yet it has all of the features you could ever want and need in a travel jewelry case. It has pockets for bracelets, snaps to keep necklaces from getting tangled, a ring rod, and earring holders. It’s well-designed and ensures everything stays organized, and we were incredibly impressed that after filling it up with jewelry and shaking it around to simulate what it would be like to travel with it, each and every piece of jewelry remain in place.

We also love the materials. It feels expensive and high-quality, as well as super sturdy. Plus, there’s the option to customize it with a name or monogram on the brand’s website—making it great for gifting. It’s functional, aesthetically pleasing, and high-quality, and we highly recommend it for anyone who’s traveling with a moderate amount of jewelry.

Best for Short Trips

Cuyana travel jewelry case.

Feels high-quality

Well-designed

Ring and earring straps are removable

Aesthetically pleasing

Necklace storage could be a bit sturdier

This pick from Cuyana surprised us in the best way. When we first got our hands on it, we didn’t imagine that such a small case would be all that useful—but we were wrong. The compact design isn’t just chic and adorable, but it’s also quite functional for storing a few pieces of jewelry for a quick trip. It has detachable ring and earring holders (which makes putting jewels in and taking them out fast and easy), as well as two pockets to hold bracelets or other pieces. The ring rod can also be used to hang necklaces, though we do wish it provided necklace storage that was a bit better at keeping them in place.

You’re certainly not going to fit a large collection of jewelry in this one, but it’s a fantastic option for minimalists or anyone taking just a few pieces on a weekend getaway. It’s compact and well-designed, and the leather and suede materials feel smooth and durable.

Best for Long Trips

Calpak jewelry case.

Has tons of storage options

Can hold a lot of pieces

Design is sturdy

Comes in many colors

Design could be just slightly more compact

If minimalism is not your M.O. when it comes to jewelry, this travel case is for you. It comes with tons of storage options—from necklace hooks and a 28-hole earring card to a ring rod and a large pouch lined with pockets, it’s got a place for everything. You can take multiple pieces of each jewelry type with you, and we love that the large drawstring bag attached to the case is lined with pockets for extra storage and organization. During our test, we found that it was easy to pack and unpack, and everything remained in place when we shook it around. Though we wish it was a bit slimmer for more compact and lightweight packing, the design is pleasing and functional, and it’s not overly heavy. An added bonus is that it comes in neutral shades and limited-edition pops of color. If you’re heading on a long trip, this is the travel case we recommend the most.

Material: Faux leather and faux suede | Dimensions: 7" x 5" x 2.5" | Color Options: Black, Caramel + more

Best for Everyday Pieces

Levenger mini jewelry organizer.

Super compact

High-quality materials

Nice organization options

Snap panels for rings and earrings are secure

If you’re someone that doesn’t stray from your go-to jewelry pieces—perhaps wedding rings, your favorite necklace, and classic hoops—there’s no need to add bulk to your bag by getting a large jewelry case. This one is perfect for minimalists because it’s ultra-compact. But don’t let the tiny design fool you, it provides excellent organization and protection for your jewelry.

It has removable panels for your earrings and rings that feature secure snaps, snap hooks to prevent necklaces from getting tangled, an open pouch for chunkier pieces, and a zipper pouch. It’s very simple to pack and grab your pieces out of it on the go, and we were impressed by how well everything stayed in place. It’s also made with pebbled leather which feels nice and high-quality, and the mini wallet-like design is easy to pop into your purse or even your cosmetics case.

Material: Pebbled leather | Dimensions: 4 ¼" W x 1" D x 4 ½" H | Color Options: Grape, Chilli Pepper + more

Best Budget

Bagsmart jewelry organizer bag.

Lightweight

Has a lot of storage options

Amazon has tons of travel and storage items, and this travel jewelry case is a great one for anyone on the hunt for an affordable and accessible option. It’s spacious without being too clunky or heavy, and it features tons of different storage options. It has snap hooks to keep necklaces straight, ring rods, an earring card, and plenty of pockets. It kept everything organized and in place during our test, and while it doesn’t feel the most durable or extravagant as others we tested, the functionality and price point make it easy for us to recommend.

Material: Polyester | Dimensions: 9.8'' L x 6.1'' W x 1.9'' H | Color Options: Lake Blue, Black + more

Best Personalized

Mark & graham small travel jewelry case foil debossed.

Mark & Graham

Compact design

Comes in tons of colors

Has multiple storage options

Sturdy design

Has a divider with a mirror

Storage for necklaces and bracelets could be more secure

Customizable items make for great gifts. This cute jewelry travel case can be customized with a name or monogram in a few different fonts and in gold or silver lettering. The case also comes in tons of colors—everything from black and caramel to vibrant shades of orange and green.

As for the design itself, we like how compact it is while still offering various storage options. It has cushioned rows to store earrings, small sections for rings, and hooks for necklaces. It’s definitely better for storing small pieces like rings and earrings, though you can fit one or two bracelets and necklaces in it. We also appreciate that it has a built-in divider with a mirror and the materials feel durable. This option is best for short trips or minimalists, and we think it’s a fantastic gifting option for birthdays, bridesmaids, or that friend that seems to always be on another trip.

Material: Pebbled vegan leather | Dimensions: 4.5" W x 4.5 D" x 2.25" H | Color Options: Black, Orchid + more

Kendra Scott Medium Travel Jewelry Case

Kendra Scott

Large capacity

Contains removable pouch

A bit heavy to travel with

Could have better necklace storage

Another option for those planning on traveling with a lot of jewelry, this one from Kendra Scott is great for storing earrings, rings, bracelets, and chunky necklaces that aren’t prone to tangling. We wish it had better storage to keep necklaces from knotting up, but we do love how much storage there is for everything else. There are tons of rows to place earrings, and the separate compartments at the bottom are nice for keeping medium and large pieces organized. We also appreciate that it comes with a removable pouch and the design is sturdy and easy to pack and unpack.

It’s just a bit heavy for traveling with (especially for storing in carry-on luggage), but it’s a nice option if you have a lot of jewelry and accessories to take with you. It’s also fitting if you want a case to organize your jewelry at home—the design is simple and would look nice on your dresser.

Material: Polyurethane, 100% polyester Lining | Dimensions: 8"L x 5.5"D x 2.5"H | Color Options: Lilac, Taupe + more

Vee & Co. Small Travel Jewelry Case

Has many storage options

Contains a mirror

Mirror can get scratched by loose jewelry since it’s not covered

If you’re looking for an affordable and compact travel jewelry case that will keep your collection super organized, we highly recommend checking out this one. Though it’s small, it’s well-designed to fit earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets—they all have a designated place. Although it doesn’t feel all that high-quality, we do appreciate that the earring card features a mirror in the center which is convenient to have on hand while traveling. We had no issues with the jewelry moving around during our shake test, and we felt that it was intuitive to pack and easy to get the pieces out when needed. It’s affordable and very well-organized, and we think it’s a great choice for anyone looking for a small travel case to easily fit into a backpack or weekender bag.

Material: Vegan leather | Dimensions: 3.94" D x 3.94" W x 1.97" H | Color Options: Blue, White + more

Our favorite facial travel jewelry case is the Pottery Barn Mckenna Personalized Jewelry Binder thanks to the sleek design, multiple storage features, durability, and customizability options. But if you’re looking for a small case to fit just your everyday essentials, we recommend the Levenger Carrie Mini Jewelry Organizer .

In order to find the best options on the market, we put tons of popular and highly-rated options to the test in our lab facility in NYC, evaluating each one based on its design, capacity, ease of use, performance, and value. We filled them up with a variety of pieces, shook them around to see how the contents held up, and tested how easily they could be packed and unpacked. Those that impressed us the most appear on this list.

What to Look for When Buying a Travel Jewelry Case

Storage and organizational features.

All travel jewelry cases have some storage organizational features, but some are far better than others. The right one for you will largely depend on what type of jewelry you wear and how much you’ll be taking with you, but generally, it’s wise to look for things like ring rods, earring cards, and necklace hooks. If you’re in need of a variety of storage options to keep a decent amount of jewelry organized and secure in place, our best overall pick, the Pottery Barn Mckenna Personalized Jewelry Binder or the Calpak Jewelry Case is ideal for you.

Consider the size of a jewelry case wisely—especially when it’s for travel. You’ll want something that can fit everything you want to bring, but you’ll want to avoid options that are unnecessarily bulky or heavy. If you’re going to be away for a while, the Calpak Jewelry Case is a solid choice. But if you’re just traveling for the weekend, a smaller option like the Cuyana Travel Jewelry Case is a better choice.

This answer depends on what type of jewelry you’re traveling with, but in general, it’s wise to secure each piece in a travel case rather than throwing it all in a loose bag or compartment which will likely lead to damage and tangles. For necklaces specifically which are prone to knotting, look for a travel case that has snap hooks to keep them straight. The Pottery Barn Mckenna Personalized Jewelry Binder features snap hooks and we were impressed by how well it kept necklaces secured and tangle-free.

It’s always wise to pack your jewelry in your purse or carry-on luggage that way you can ensure you know where it is at all times—especially if it’s expensive or sentimental. If you pack it in your checked bag, you take the rise that the airline loses your bag along with the jewelry inside.

Traveling with jewelry can be risky business, so it’s important to pack your accessories thoughtfully. Sure, you can always use Ziploc baggies and tissue paper, but the easiest and safest way to keep your jewelry safe is by using a handy travel-size jewelry case.

Since travel jewelry cases come in all different shapes and sizes, we tried 25 options from trusted luggage and jewelry brands. After loading the cases up with jewelry, we tossed, dropped, and shook them to see how safe the jewelry would be in situations like traveling where rough handling can be expected. From testing, we selected the winning jewelry cases that will keep your jewelry safe and organized whether you’re a jewelry minimalist or maximalist.

Our Top Picks

Best overall: cuyana travel jewelry case, best budget: bagsmart jewelry organizer bag.

  • Best Roll-Up: Bagsmart Peri Folding Jewelry Organizer

Best Personalization: Mark & Graham Small Travel Jewelry Case

Best large capacity: kendra scott medium travel jewelry case, best for long trips: calpak jewelry case, best compact: vee & co. small travel jewelry case.

  • Best for Everyday Use: Levenger Mini Jewelry Organizer

Best Sustainable: Paravel Jewelry Case

The small, oval container is the perfect size for a weekend getaway.

It could use a few more organizational features.

Cuyana’s oval-shaped case is deceptively spacious in comparison to its smaller design. Perfect for minimalist jewelry wearers, the interior has plenty of room and designated spots for several rings and earrings, but there aren’t specific latches for necklaces or bracelets. The two slip pockets on each side of the case can hold bigger or longer pieces of jewelry, but they run the risk of getting tangled without a latch so we wish the organization was a bit better. Made with genuine leather, the case has a protective exterior with a soft suede interior to further guard the jewelry against scratching or other damage. Throughout six months of tests, we loved this case for weekend getaways and longer trips alike and found it to be the perfect size to toss in a backpack or personal item.

The Details: Italian leather | 5 in. x 3.5 x 1.25 inches

Travel + Leisure / Joy Kim

The bag is spacious yet compact and comes with a handle to carry it easily.

The quality feels a bit lower than other cases we tried.

Designed similarly to a toiletry bag, we love that this wallet-friendly jewelry case comes with a top handle to transport it to and from a suitcase with ease. The compact bag is also a great deal considering how much jewelry it can hold while still being easy to pack. The polyester material is protective and flexible so the bag can pack down to a smaller size depending on how much jewelry is inside. The interior has an earring panel, ring bands, necklace clips, and various zippered pockets for storing all of the jewelry you want to pack for a trip. While we didn’t notice any issues with quality during testing, the materials feel less durable than other pricier cases we tried. We tossed the packed jewelry case around a bit during our tests and the items remained perfectly safe without any tangling or damage. Even after traveling with the case on seven flights, trains, and throughout more than four roadtrips during our six months of tests, nothing became tangled and the case is proving to be durable and sturdy.

Watch How We Test Travel Products

Best roll-up: bagsmart peri folding jewelry organizer.

The compartments roll out, which makes it easier to pack jewelry.

It was slightly difficult to put the earrings on the designated card.

Bagsmart impressed us a second time with their roll-up jewelry organizer, which was the easiest bag to pack with jewelry during testing. After six months of use, we love that it can fit a lot of jewelry and has compartments big enough for even the biggest hoops and other dramatic earrings. The envelope-style case unrolls and lies flat so you can easily see all of the pockets, latches, and hooks for storing every piece of jewelry you could ever need for traveling thanks to the larger capacity. We had some slight difficulty getting earrings into the holes in the earring card, but it was just a minor inconvenience, and there are plenty of other spots to place hoops and studs. Made with cotton fabric, the case may feel a bit flimsy, but is soft and protective, and it’s very compact since it can lie fairly flat even after it’s packed with jewelry.

The Details: Cotton | 9.06 x 6.3 x 5.75 inches

Mark & Graham

It comes in 28 color and pattern options — plus it's monogrammable.

After six months of using the case, we wish it had more space for necklaces, bracelets, and larger earrings.

Looking for the perfect gift for a traveler? You can monogram this Mark & Graham jewelry case with up to three letters for a personalized touch that makes the gift all the more thoughtful. The square-shaped case has a sturdy exterior that feels like it will hold up perfectly in a packed carry-on and the pebbled vegan leather gives the box a sophisticated look while sitting on a desk or dresser. The interior is split into two sections with a mirror divider to separate the box, which makes it slightly difficult to fit larger jewelry pieces like a watch or chunky necklace, but after six months of testing, we did like that the separate sections help you access all your items without spilling everything out. We also love that there are tons of ring pillow slots so if you’re a big ring wearer, this jewelry case is an excellent option. In addition, there are several necklace or earring latches as well as a slip pocket and sections for bracelets or broaches.

The Details: Vegan leather, linen | 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.25 inches

Kendra Scott

The large size of this jewelry box makes it useful for heavy packers or at-home use.

It doesn’t have any necklace hooks.

Jewelry maximalists will appreciate the bigger size of Kendra Scott’s jewelry case. It looks like a traditional jewelry box that sits on a dresser, but it’s also very portable thanks to its lightweight materials and design. The interior has four large compartments to easily drop in bracelets, necklaces, or watches without any hassle and there are over 10 ring pillow slots for rings or earrings. To keep all the packed jewelry safe, the case comes with a divider to prevent items from jostling around on the go. The case also comes with a small matching zippered pouch that you can keep in the box or remove for extra storage. We found this separate pouch to be perfect for use on shorter trips when you may not need to bring the full case. While we wish the box had a few more organizational features like necklace hooks or earring holes, the jewelry remained perfectly intact after we shook it around, so we’re confident that the box keeps items safely tucked away. Plus, after six months of use, the stylish case still looks new and is a great option for home storage, too.

The Details: Polyurethane, polyester | 8 x 5.5 x 2.5 inches

After six months of traveling with this case, not one necklace became tangled thanks to the plentiful hooks.

We wish it had more storage options for studs.

If you’re embarking on an international trip that includes a checked bag, we recommend this jewelry case from Calpak to weather the journey. Since the rectangular jewelry case is bigger, it can easily store enough jewelry for several weeks of traveling. The structured design makes it ultra-durable and our favorite part is that it has a built-in drawstring bag that does an excellent job of keeping bracelets, watches, or earrings safely secured in the bottom section of the jewelry case. The top part has a variety of necklace latches and a ring holder for even more security. When we rigorously shook the container, none of the jewelry budged from its original spots, so we feel confident that this case will protect your valuables in a checked bag with no issues.

The Details: Faux leather, faux suede | 7 x 5 x 2.5 inches

The square-shaped box is small enough to easily fit in a carry-on or backpack.

The jewelry might scratch up the mirror on the divider.

The lower price and superior functionality make this petite jewelry case an excellent option for anyone looking for a place to store their accessories. It’s smaller than a lot of the options we tested, so we think it’s ideal for travelers needing to save space in a backpack or suitcase. Despite its compact stature, this jewelry box can fit tons of jewelry from studs to a leather watch. It’s intuitive to pack the case with rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and more since there are designated latches, slots, and compartments for virtually everything. When we shook the case, all of the jewelry remained packed away in its original spot without any damage occurring. The box has a divider with a mirror on one side and our only worry is that the mirror could get scratched by the metals or vice-versa, so you may want to put a small piece of fabric between the mirror just in case.

The Details: PU vegan leather | 3.94 x 3.94 x 1.97 inches

Best for Everyday Use: Levenger Carrie Mini Jewelry Organizer

The small design makes it easy to store the case in a purse.

It can’t fit large jewelry pieces.

Jewelry minimalists will love this tiny jewelry case for keeping track of just a few pieces of jewelry while on the go. After six months of use, we love that this Levenger mini jewelry case has latches, hooks, and pockets to protect and organize rings, bracelets, and necklaces. It is on the small side with minimum space for studs, but light packers will appreciate the hard, durable exterior that still looks new after six months. The genuine leather exterior and suede interior feels luxurious and looks elegant, so this also makes a great jewelry case for newlyweds going on a honeymoon . We especially love the tiny zippered pocket in the middle of the case for storing extra small jewelry items like studs or stacking rings.

The Details: Leather, microsuede | 4.25  x 4.5 x 1 inches

All of the materials used to make this case are recycled.

The organizational features could be better and, after six months of use, we think it's a bit too large to pack in a carry-on.

Paravel is one of our favorite luggage brands , so we’re pleased to report that its jewelry case impressed us, too. The circular case is made entirely of recycled materials from post-consumer plastic water bottles and upcycled zippers to create an eco-friendly accessory for travel. Besides the sustainability factor, the case comes with a large drawstring pouch that makes it easy to drop in larger pieces of jewelry like bracelets or watches. The top flap of the case has a ring holder and earring post to store smaller pieces of jewelry, but we wish there were a few more organization features like necklace latches or zippered pockets. However, we love the vintage-style design and, like most Paravel bags, you can monogram the case with initials for a special touch.

The Details: Recycled canvas, vegan leather | 5.6 x 3.6 inches

Other Travel Jewelry Cases We Liked

The jewelry cases below get an honorable mention since they still performed well in testing, but fell slightly short compared to our top performers.

Benevolence Plush Velvet Travel Jewelry Box Organizer : This jewelry box can fit a ton of items, but you’ll want to make sure everything is secure before traveling since we noticed most of the jewelry became dislodged during testing.

Mejuri Travel Case : The case looks elegant and sleek on the outside, but the interior doesn’t offer much in the organizational department, so it’s best for minimalist travelers.

Our Testing Process

After thoroughly researching jewelry cases from trusted brands, we selected 25 options to first test out in our New York City lab. We packed each case with every type of jewelry you can think of, including rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, watches, and more to get a feel for the usefulness of the organization features. Then, we tossed, dropped, and shook the cases (think Kourtney Kardashian level of salad bowl shaking) to see if the jewelry remained safely secured in place or if the pieces moved around. We also examined the cases for any scuffing or damage.

With our lab testing portion complete, we then rated the jewelry cases based on ease of use, capacity, design, and quality to determine the winners. We will continue to test the jewelry cases for an additional six months so we can see how each one performs while traveling in a more natural setting after the lab testing.

Tips for Buying a Jewelry Case

Buy the right size case.

First, you’ll want to think about how much jewelry you travel with to determine the best size for your needs. For those who travel with bigger pieces of jewelry like watches or chunky necklaces, consider getting a more structured case with large compartments. Delicate or minimalist jewelry will pack better in an envelope or binder style of jewelry case. And if your jewelry collection consists of just a few pieces, opt for a mini jewelry case to save space in your luggage.

Consider organization

Most jewelry cases come with latches, hooks, pockets, and pillows to hold pretty much any piece of jewelry you can think of. Like other types of travel organizers , some jewelry cases are more barebones than others, so you’ll want to buy a case according to your organization preferences or based on the type of jewelry you travel most with. If most of your jewelry consists of earrings, be sure to get a box that has pockets and hole cards with spots for hoops, studs, and dangling earrings.

The best way to keep your jewelry safe and organized is to use a jewelry case. The best thing about travel jewelry cases is that they often come with designated slots for all types of accessories to make packing intuitive and quick. If you want to add an extra layer of protection, you can always place tissue or fabric between your jewelry to prevent the pieces from rubbing against one another in transit.

Once your jewelry is packed into the case, we recommend placing the jewelry case between soft clothing for safekeeping or in a personal item in case you have to gate-check your bag when flying. It can be risky to place a jewelry case in a checked bag since you may run the risk of the bag getting lost, but it depends on your comfort level for flying with potentially valuable items.

How to Keep Jewelry Safe When Traveling: 7 Important Precautions to Take

W hen you’re out there globetrotting, you’ll want to make sure that the jewelry you take with you – or purchase while you travel – is kept safe. After all, we’ve all heard those gut-wrenching stories of precious heirlooms swiped from hotel rooms or engagement rings that go missing from suitcases faster than you can say ‘piña colada’.

It’s not just the monetary hit that stings – it’s losing a piece that’s packed with memories and meaning—like waving goodbye to a slice of your personal history. So, keeping your gems secured while traveling is key to ensuring peace of mind along with safeguarding your sparkly assets.

To help you keep your jewels safe when traveling, make sure you take note of the following seven precautions to take.

1. Go Minimalist

Before you pack your treasured jewels or buy jewelry online to take with you and turn heads when you’re traveling, you should pause to consider the amount of precious keepsakes you’re planning on packing.

You’ve probably heard the saying ‘less is more,’ and this couldn’t be truer than when talking about travel and treasures. Before you even zip up that suitcase, do a serious jewelry audit. Ask yourself: Do I really need to bring my full bling brigade on this trip? Often, the answer is nope.

Picking out just a few versatile pieces—think simple studs or a single statement watch—can slash the risk right off the bat. And let’s be real, flaunting your fanciest jewels can make you an easy target for theft in unfamiliar places.

Besides, there’s something liberating about not worrying over a traveling jewelry jamboree while exploring new locales.

Keeping it minimal means keeping it manageable—you’re less likely to misplace stuff if there’s less stuff to misplace! Plus, you get that extra space in your bag for souvenirs .

2. Keep Your Jewelry Close When Traveling

So, you’ve decided to bring a few cherished pieces along for the journey—we get it, sometimes you’ve got to shine. Well, here’s a pro tip: buddy up those jewels with something they can’t part from—you.

Instead of tossing your jewelry haphazardly into your checked luggage (a big no-no!), keep them cozy and close in your carry-on. And when I say close, I mean treat those trinkets like they’re part of your Secret Service detail.

High-flying at 30,000 feet? Your jewelry should be snug in that overhead bin or tucked under the seat—not mingling with your shampoo in cargo hold limbo.

3. Get Insured to Get Assured

Before you sashay out the door with your sparklers, get down to the nuts and bolts of jewelry insurance . Seriously, do it. It’s like having a safety net for your valuables so you can breathe easily while bungee jumping in Canada , for instance.

Make sure that travel is covered in your policy because not all insurance policies include loss or theft outside the home turf.

Check with your insurance provider or find one that specializes in precious pieces and covers international mishaps. Those premiums might sting a tad now but they’re nothing compared to the sting of losing an uninsured heirloom abroad.

And hey, keep those receipts and appraisal docs in a safe place—probably alongside your passport because nothing says “I’m legit!” like paperwork when making a claim.

It’s all about being proactive rather than reactive; getting insured means shifting from “Uh-oh” to “It’s handled.”

4. Document Your Dazzle Before Departure

Alright, here’s something that doesn’t take up any space in your baggage but can save heaps of trouble: snapping pics of your jewelry. It’s like a visual inventory. Lay out all those pieces you’re planning to bring and click away before the big voyage.

These high-res photos serve as a double-duty hack. First up, they’re proof positive of what you own—it’s hard to argue with a photo if something goes missing and you need to file a report or claim. Second, it’s crazy helpful for memory-jogging about what exactly you packed.

Upload the pictures to the cloud or an email draft—somewhere cyber-secure—because losing your phone is enough drama without losing pictures of everything else too.

Not only does this step have your back in case things go sideways. It also helps avoid overpacking—you might rethink bringing certain items once you see your bling battalion laid bare for review!

5. Remember Discretion Is the Better Part of Valor

When trotting the globe, being a human disco ball can be less of a party and more of a problem. Flashing your finery should not be on your itinerary. Stick to a low-key vibe and save the glitz for times when there’s less risk involved.

If you are stepping out with some sparkle, flip that ring around so only the band shows, or tuck that necklace beneath your shirt.

Not broadcasting your bling does two things: one, it keeps envious eyes at bay; no need to advertise what you’ve got dangling from your lobes or wrists. And two, it lets you move like a local without drawing unwanted attention—blending in can be both cool and clever.

Sipping espresso at a Parisian café ? Keep those diamond studs under wraps. Navigating an exotic bazaar in Istanbul ? Let’s not turn that necklace into local folklore about the tourist who was just asking for trouble. Remember, stealth mode saves heartache!

6. Keep Your Jewelry Safe in a Safe

You roll into your hotel room and what’s this—a safe, snug as a bug in the closet or by the bed? You better believe that little box is your jewelry’s new BFF. Hotel safes are like mini fortresses for your rings and things when you’re out living your best holiday life.

Plan on taking a dive into the deep blue sea or setting off on a jungle adventure where that delicate necklace won’t survive? Don’t just leave those valuables lying around; pop them in the safe with a code that’s locked up tight in your brain vault—not something obvious like 1234 (c’mon, we can do better than that).

Just remember: before you check out to jet-set to your next destination, do a quick double-take of that safe. Leaving anything behind would be face-palm-level forgetfulness—almost as bad as leaving your heart… but not quite.

7. Pack Smartly

Lastly, when you decide to bring along your beloved jewelry, packing it properly is non-negotiable. Treat the pieces like the treasures they are with some smart packing techniques.

Rummaging around in a tangled mess of chains? Not fun. Avoid the dreaded jewelry jumble by using dedicated jewelry cases with compartments and soft pouches designed to keep pieces separate and cushioned.

Consider investing in travel organizers, too – think necklace rolls, earring holders, and ring cases. These babies are designed to prevent scratches and keep everything untangled and accessible.

For a DIY fix on the fly, thread necklaces through straws or lay them flat between sheets of press-and-seal plastic wrap.

With your gems neatly packed away, you’ll dodge any potential damage.

As long as you plan ahead and stay savvy, you should be able to keep your jewelry safe when traveling.

To sum up, remember to take these important precautions:

  • Go Minimalist.
  • Keep Your Jewelry Close When Traveling.
  • Get Insured to Get Assured.
  • Document Your Dazzle Before Departure.
  • Remember Discretion Is the Better Part of Valor.
  • Keep Your Jewelry Safe in a Safe.
  • Pack Smartly.

How to Pack Jewelry for a Trip

How to Pack Jewelry for a Trip

When packing jewelry for a trip, you have two things to decide.

  • What will you bring with you?
  • How are you going to get it there?

Read on or watch, sisters. We share our best tips for packing jewelry for a safe and stylish trip.

Step 1: Deciding What Jewelry to Bring on Your Trip

We’ll start with the obvious. When packing for a trip, it’s a good idea to pick your jewelry according to the outfits you’ve packed.

But, if you’re like most jewelry lovers, that only narrows your options slightly. Where do you go from here?

Keep the three S’s in mind: Simple, Single, and Selective . Let us explain.

  • Simple : Bring your staple items. These are your go-to’s, that are easy to throw on and mix and match with any outfit.
  • Single: Travel requires flexibility. That holds true for your jewelry as well. Make room for versatility by choosing a singular palette for your jewelry. Shiny pieces, either gold or silver (just pick one), can give any outfit an instant glow up. If you’re more low-key, use black accents or solid colors to complement your outfits (again, just choose one tone).
  • Selective: Like we said, you’ll make things easier on yourself if you stick to one slice of the color wheel with your jewelry. There’s no need to bring your entire jewelry box along for the trip, so be choosy! One place you want to be extra selective is your expensive jewelry: leave it at home if you can. Snafus happen when you travel; it’s easier to laugh them off when they don’t involve losing your fine diamonds.

Step 2: How to Pack Your Jewelry for a Trip

Now that you’ve made your selections, it’s time to figure out how to pack them. Here’s what we recommend for different jewelry pieces.

For packing your necklaces

You can use fabric pouches, jewelry boxes, or mini plastic bags to pack your necklaces, ideally with the clasp closed and hang outside of the bag to more likely prevent tangles.

Alternately, grab some shelf liner. Lie your necklaces on it, with space in between them, and gently roll the fabric up.

For packing your bracelets

Store your bracelets in another fabric pouch or ziplock bag, separate from the one containing your necklaces (in order to avoid them tangling together).

You can also DIY your own jewelry roll, by rolling up a washcloth and sliding your bracelets over it. Then, place it in a ziplock bag for security.

For packing your rings

Pack your smaller rings in a pill case, using a separate day for each ring so you can see them clearly.

For your larger rings (or if you don’t have a pillbox available), string them on the loop of one of your fabric pouches and tie the end together with a knot. You can also use fabric pouches, ziplock bags, and/or jewelry boxes to hold your rings, but separate compartments allow for rings to be more secure.

For packing your earrings

For this one, we encourage you to get a bit crafty. Find a piece of fabric , thin enough for you to pierce your earrings through.

If you don’t have any fabric swatches lying around, use cardboard, a styrofoam plate , or a sturdy piece of paper from an old shoebox and punch your own holes through it. Or, you can share the pillbox you used for your rings with your earrings.

A Simpler, Sleeker Solution to Packing Jewelry for a Trip: The Roam Often Travel Jewelry Case

As you can imagine, these containers add up quickly and can be cumbersome to carry separately. Instead of packing for your weekend getaway, it starts to feel like you’re opening up a mini Container Store in your carry-on!

For a more elegant solution befitting a stylish jetsetter like yourself, we recommend a travel jewelry case — specifically, The Wanderer travel jewelry case we sell here at Roam Often. We may be a bit biased, but hear us out! Just take a look at how easy it is to pack all of your jewelry for a trip, all in one sleek, stylish little case:

  • Slide your rings onto the ring bar that’s there just for them.
  • Hang your earrings on the dedicated earring bar, or store larger dangles in the included pocket.
  • Pack your bracelets in the generously-sized pocket, or hang them on the necklace side of the case.
  • Loop your necklaces through the hook and clasp them to prevent tangling, or store them in the pocket.

That’s it. With the Roam Often travel jewelry case , there’s a place for every piece of your jewelry.

Once you’ve packed it all, you zip it up like a mini suitcase for your jewelry. Then, you can toss this in your carry-on or your purse to keep all your jewelry with you, safe and secure, wherever your travels take you!

Bon voyage: How to travel with jewelry.

July 7, 2022

It’s summertime and the living is…well, I don’t know about easy, but it’s sunnier than usual! Many of us have vacays coming up and I know we’ll want to travel with jewelry, so let’s take a minute to talk about how to travel with jewelry as safely and carefully as possible.

How to travel with jewelry! Me in a polka dot dress posing with a polka dot suitcase at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC

Bon Voyage: How to travel with jewelry

Wearing flashy or fine jewelry in public is always some level of a risk, but when you’re away from home, staying somewhere that’s not fully under your control, and very obviously a tourist, there is much more risk than usual – and that risk can endanger both you and your jewelry.

But vacay mode requires fun outfits, and fun outfits require jewelry, so what is a jewelry lover to do? Don’t worry, there are things you can do help make it as safe as possible to travel with your pretties.

Disclaimer: Please note that this is not legal advice and no amount of care can guarantee that your jewelry will be safe while you travel .

Leave it at home

Part of traveling safely with jewelry is being strategic. If you’re staying in a busy hotel and you’ll be sitting on the beach all day, leave your grandmother’s diamond tennis bracelet at home.

In fact, the best piece of advice I can give you for how to travel with jewelry is this: never travel with anything you can’t bear to lose.

Or at least, keep the number of items you couldn’t bear to lose to a minimum. I usually bring my engagement ring when I travel, but it’s always either on my person or locked up. And while I might bring one or two other nice pieces, I leave the heirlooms at home.

Jewelry travel storage case options; the Alice jewelry keep by Rowallan, necklace compartment.

Keep it with you.

When you travel with jewelry, pack a small enough amount that it can stay on your body, in your purse, or in your carry-on until you reach your destination.

While in transit, you should be able to touch the bag that contains your jewelry at any moment. Never ever ever EVER put jewelry in checked luggage or in any other bag that will be out of your control. Things can be so easily lost, smashed, damaged, or stolen.

I recommend getting a good jewelry travel case to keep your treasures comfortable while they’re in your bag. It should make sure that necklaces won’t tangle, earrings won’t bend, and rings won’t rub against each other while packed.

Take it off.

Are you going to the beach? Putting on sunscreen? Hiking? Kayaking? Getting a spa treatment? Take your jewelry off! I know you don’t want to, but you need to. TAKE IT OFF.

I was chatting with my local jeweler the other day and he told me that his store’s gold buyback program sees an enormous uptick in the amount of wedding rings turned in during the summer, because locals with metal detectors head out to the beach every week and their teams find, on average, 10 lost wedding rings per person per day. The reason is simple: hot, humid summer air makes fingers swell, so that rings seem like they fit securely. Then when those fingers hit cold water, the skin rapidly shrinks and rings slip off into the water or sand, never to be seen again.

How to travel with jewelry! Photo shows me wearing my antique gargoryle ring in front of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

Lock it up.

When you travel with jewelry, you need a way to secure your jewelry when it isn’t on your body. Many hotels offer in-room safes, which are always a decent option – although these safes can be accessed by people who work at the hotel, so they’re not impenetrable. (Also if you want to be horrified about the possible dangers of traveling with jewelry, go watch Season 1 of the tv show White Lotus .)

I like to use a travel safe when I travel with jewelry. I have something like this, which is a safe pouch that you secure by padlocking it to a sturdy structure in your hotel room, like a closet bar, bathroom pipes, or immovable piece of furniture. It’s not foolproof, but every obstacle that makes it harder for someone to steal your jewelry is a good thing.

When does your jewelry need to be locked up? Any time it’s not within your sight. Theft and loss can still happen, but reducing opportunity makes it less likely.

Create a jewelry capsule wardrobe.

The best defense against missing your jewelry when you’re away from home is to pack a really great selection of jewelry to bring with you.

I like to combine one or two nicer pieces that I will wear every day with a rotation of fun demi-fine and costume jewelry pieces that I pair with each other in different ways to keep things interesting. My travel jewelry essentials usually include 1-2 pairs of big statement earrings, 1-2 pairs of stud earrings, 2-3 rings that pair well together, and 3-4 necklaces of varying lengths that I can layer in different ways.

Make a switch.

Some people like to buy a cheaper ring to wear in place of their engagement ring while they’re traveling. I don’t do this, personally – if I’m not comfortable wearing my engagement ring somewhere, I just go without – but I know people who love this approach. It’s a great option if you don’t like your ring finger to be bare at the beach.

A silicone wedding band is also a good option if you like to have an alternate durable travel ring. My husband, the lovely Mr. DitL, has one of these that he wears for things like playing sports and enjoying the beach.

How to travel with jewelry! Me posing with my husband in front of a canal in Venice, Italy.

It’s one thing to put on some diamonds for an elegant evening in the bar of your Parisian hotel, or a glamorous gala in NYC when you’re taking a car to and from your event. But if your itinerary involves unfamiliar streets, big crowds, or uncertain destinations, it’s never a bad idea to leave off your flashiest sparkle. Remember that thieves can be anywhere and they’re smart, so don’t make it any easier for them to identify you as a target. Your jewelry isn’t the only thing in danger if you get robbed.

If you’re a fellow antique jewelry lover like me, remember that antique and vintage jewelry is more fragile than its contemporary counterparts. Leave delicate antiques at home where they’ll be safe. Same for new jewelry that’s especially dainty or breakable.

Accidents do happen anyway and there’s sometimes no way to prevent loss, but it never hurts to try to make choices to help ensure a good outcome when you’re traveling with jewelry.

Jewelry insurance exists for a reason, and that’s because bad things do happen. If you’re going to travel with any jewelry of value, it’s a fantastic idea to have it insured so that you can go about your business knowing that you have a safety net in case something bad really does go down.

Vacay is supposed to be about fun and relaxation! If locking up your jewelry and remembering to take it off at strategic moments stresses you out, just leave it at home. Buy something cheap and sparkly that won’t break your heart if it gets lost and know that your good stuff will be waiting for you when you come back. Then you’ll able to frolic freely without worrying.

How to travel with jewelry! Image shows my hand with my antique wedding set and two other antique rings, holding a US passport.

I hope you have safe and delightful travels this summer, my darlings!

And I can’t help myself, so I will also say this: please remember that some summer travelers (like me!) are immunocompromised/high risk and still in real danger from COVID. Please consider wearing a mask on planes and in public indoor spaces, and make sure you’re fully vaxxed and boosted before you take off for parts unknown.

firstly, may i say how nice to see you and mr DitL in that photo! such a lovely couple.

many excellent ideas here. travel has become challenging in the best case, these days, and positively fraught in worse cases…i’m showing my age, but i do feel nostalgic for the way travel used to be in former years. i tend not to take my obviously valuable jewellery on holiday unless we are going in our own car, and regardless of travel means i always keep those pieces with me in my handbag. anything i do leave in the hotel room is in a case, concealed, or optimally in.a safe. (which i do not trust, entirely.)

i remember my mother and grandmothers packing their jewellery for trips. i loved to see all the pretty shiny things, most with their satin or velvet pouches, and always admired the cunning little–or not so little–leather covered cases that held them for travelling, with their cunning wee keys. and train cases! does anyone else remember train cases? no worries about taking microscopic bottles of cosmetic items, or fitting your jewel case in. no need for shoving it under the tiny space below the seat in front of you, or being admonished by the flight attendants about upper compartment space…of course, one didn’t have to get halfway undressed to go through security then, either. and we used to dress decently for travel, even for transatlantic flights. alors. welp, that was quite the stroll down memory lane…thank you for that. 🙂

hoping you are enjoying some summer holiday travels yourself.

Last updated: December 12, 2023 - Written by Jessica Norah 97 Comments

If you love travel and jewelry you’re probably going to love this guide to jewelry for travelers! We focus primarily on handmade and unique travel jewelry, and cover jewelry that will suit any budget and style.

I fell in love with travel themed jewelry while searching for travel themed wedding rings for Laurence and I’s wedding. I have since acquired more travel jewelry pieces and love using jewelry as a way of expressing my passion for travel.

We’ve put together a list of a wide range of travel jewelry items in this article for those looking for a way to express their own love for travel, searching for a gift for a traveler, or just looking for inspiration about what types of travel themed jewelry are out there.

Our list contains dozens of items that span the range of jewelry types, budgets, and fashion tastes. Although many of the jewelry pieces are designed with women in mind, we’ve also included a number of unisex and men’s jewelry pieces.

We have physically reviewed many of these items and hope you enjoy this list of wonderful travel themed jewelry items and perhaps you’ll discover your new favorite pieces of jewelry along the way!

Travel Inspired Jewelry: Best Jewelry for Travelers

As I said, I got a bit obsessed with travel inspired jewelry when searching for a design for our engagement/wedding rings (we purchased a customized version of these World Map rings ). After planning our wedding, I wrote a post on handmade travel themed wedding products , which included a few travel themed jewelry items. I wanted to expand on that to write a full article focused solely on travel jewelry, so here we go!

Just so you know, many of the items on this list we physically reviewed. Some were items we purchased or received as gifts, and others were given to us by artists for review. The other pieces are just ones I loved when searching for travel related jewelry online.

The majority of the items on our list are handmade or hand customized items, made by a single artist, family, or a small business. We love supporting these great individual artists and small businesses, and many of the jewelry pieces featured were inspired by the wanderlust and travels of the artists’ themselves!

But we have also included jewelry from national and international fine jewelry stores as well to provide a range of jewelry options. Prices of pieces on the list range from under $10 to over $500, with the vast majority of jewelry falling in the $25 to $75 range.

If you are looking for a traveler gift idea, but don’t find it here, consider checking out our guide to gifts for travelers . It has over 75 gift suggestions that range across budgets and traveler types.

We also have a guide to gifts for travelers made in the USA and British made gift ideas for travelers , if you are looking for items specifically made in the USA or the United Kingdom. Both guides include several travel-inspired jewelry suggestions.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about any of these items included. We hope that this list helps inspire you to show your wanderlust in your own jewelry collection!

Great guide to so much travel themed jewelry, who knew there were so many options! I am wondering if you have any suggestions for anklets for a trendy young woman who loves to travel?

November 25, 2019 at 4:20 am

I would suggest something fairly simply like a nice chain with a compass, compass rose, globe, or airplane charm. For an anklet, especially if gifting, I’d recommend something made of either a fairly strong metal that doesn’t tarnish easily or a strong cord material as anklets can get a lot of wear and tear and are often more exposed to dirt/moisture than other types of jewelry. You can explore some options on Etsy here .

Hope that helps! Jessica

October 14, 2016 at 3:02 pm

Hi Richard, Yes, Laurence really loves the compass watch and has been wearing it everyday! The only downside is that it is difficult to tell the exact time as it just had the compass directions for 12, 3, 6, and 9, but the in between hours/minutes can be a bit trickier. But Laurence still loves wearing it. If you want a watch for both a cool accessory and to tell exact time, I would choose one of Carmen’s designs with numbers. You can also message Carmen as she may be able to do a compass design with numbers or have other suggestions; she is always adding new designs. ~ Jessica

How to Travel with Jewelry – 3 Things to Consider

Destination.

One of the main things to consider when planning how to travel with jewelry is your destination. Have you researched the safety warnings for the city or country in which you’ll be traveling?

Some destinations are notorious for pickpockets and theft. Madrid, for example, has a reputation for high reports of theft. “Google” your destination and review the government safety warnings prior to traveling.

Accomodation

The type of accommodation in which you’ll be staying is also a factor when considering how to travel with jewelry. Are you staying at 5 star hotels, vacation rentals, or hostels?

Determine if your accommodation has a safe or lockers where you can safely store your valuables. Please read How to keep your Passport Safe for additional tips.

As with planning your capsule travel wardrobe, considering your planned activities is one of the major influencers in how and what you pack. Are your travels based on sightseeing, action sports, or other leisurely experiences?

While your jewelry may remain safely on your body while visiting the Eiffel Tower, it may be more at risk with an activity such as scuba diving in Thailand. Review your travel itinerary to help you decide if traveling with jewelry is a do or don’t.

Additional Tips for Traveling with Jewelry

  • If you have a valuable or ornate ring, you may want to turn it over in certain destinations so it looks like a wedding band drawing less attention to you. As legendary solo female traveler Evelyn Hannon recommends: travel to see not be seen .
  • An alternative place to wear a valuable memento is on a necklace chain. Keep it close to you but hidden
  • In certain  destinations such as India, solo female travelers are encouraged to wear a wedding band to discourage unwanted suitors. Whether costume if your single or real if you’re married, plan to pack a wedding band if traveling alone .
  • If you decide to leave your jewelry at home, bring along costume jewelry instead. Even one set of jewelry can transform a basic outfit from boring to fashionista.
  • If you decide on traveling with jewelry, consider using protective casing during transport and never place it in checked luggage . Always wear it or place it in your carry-on.
  • Consider purchasing insurance for fine jewelry such as Perfect Circle Jewelry Insurance . They offer worldwide protection, which includes repair for damage or replacements. Their coverage includes loss, theft, damage or mysterious disappearance.  I priced out an item with a $1000 value and got an estimate of only $25 a year for coverage. This is way more affordable than I ever imagined and a small price to pay for the safety of a priceless item – a new engagement ring for example (hint-hint).

On a previous backpacking trip in Europe, I wore a fake wedding band to deter unwanted attention. It had the OPPOSITE effect. I had to take off the wedding band, the situations were so bad.

Love it! I don’t have any expensive jewelry, but I do have some sentimental pieces that cannot be replaced. They look relatively plain, so I’m not sure whether I should leave them at home or bring them with me (as I normally wear them everyday). I’d love to see a post about how you store your jewelry when you travel!

JanDee

I only travel with costume jewelry & pieces I would not be worried about losing. All the good stuff stays at home!

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

7 Tips For Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery To The USA

Hey! I finally find the Answer!

If you are traveling to the US, you’ll probably have jewelry on, especially if you are a lady, and you will have a few more pieces of jewelry in your jewelry travel case, somewhere in the carry-on.

But traveling with things that could set off the alarms at TSA checkpoints might not be the thing anyone ever looks forward to. If anything, it is the one thing most of us hate about traveling.

How are you supposed to carry your gold or diamond jewelry through TSA into the US? Are some kinds of jewelry better when traveling than others?

What is the minimum number of jewelry pieces you can safely travel to the USA without getting questioned?

Tips for carrying gold jewelry to the USA

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

Before we share tips for carrying gold and diamond jewelry to the US, especially when you need to carry the jewelry in bulk, there are some essential things that you need to know about traveling with high-value jewelry.

The first thing to note is that jewelry made of solid gold, silver, or platinum is non-magnetic. These precious metals are non-ferrous, meaning that they will not set off the detectors used by the airport security systems.

However, suppose your gold jewelry is plated and traveling with costume jewelry. In that case, these will set off the detectors at the airport because costume jewelry is often made of magnetic materials like nickel, iron, and steel.

You still have to remove your jewelry when going through security. Since your bags have to be scoured, you will be asked for receipts or a valid reason and documentation to verify your reason for traveling with a considerable number of jewelry.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

This is often the case when you are traveling with many pieces of high-value jewelry. So, if most of your jewelry is expensive and mostly made of gold, diamonds, platinum, or any other expensive materials, you may want to leave them back at home for safety or maybe just travel with one pair of the valuable jewelry, and make sure that the rest of the jewelry you are traveling with is costume jewelry that will not break the bank.

Also, avoid traveling with more jewelry than you’d typically wear, and wear the basic pieces after getting through security. This will give you peace of mind since you won’t have to worry about where the jewelry is and if it is safe.

Now that we have the basics out of the way let’s take a look at some of the important things you need to do to avoid being on the wrong side of the law when traveling with gold or platinum jewelry.

1. Declare the jewelry

To avoid delays and other issues, you want first to declare everything you’re traveling with to the US.

The declaration must be made with Customs and the Border Protection Officer.

Doing this makes it easier to get through the checking-in process, and it also means that the people at Customs will have to sort things out and advise you in case there is a problem.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

This is recommended not just for valuable jewelry but also for prescription medications, your contact lenses, etc.

In other words, there is nothing wrong with you traveling with the biggest number of gold and diamond jewelry; you could even have an entire bag carrying the jewelry, but always declare the jewelry.

Be ready to foot the bill for jewelry exceeding $10000 in value. In weight, the maximum weight of gold that you can carry into the US, in whatever form, is 1kg. a

2. Consider the value of the jewelry

If the value of your jewelry exceeds $10,000, you must declare the jewelry and be ready to pay customs duty on the jewelry.

The value may be variable, but in most cases, the Duty charged on the jewelry is about 6%; less than $10000 is the allowable limit in terms of the value of the jewelry that you can travel with.

It would help if you also had an acceptable means of making the payment. In most instances, you will pay for Customs Duty via Travelers Check, Credit card, or cash.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

Keep in mind that Customs Duty refers to the tax or tariff imposed on goods transported across any international borders. This tax protects the country’s economy, the environment, people, etc.

It ensures control over what goods flow into and out of the country while also filtering the prohibited and restrictive goods that may move in and out of a country.

3. Have all the necessary paperwork

If you are traveling with gold jewelry whose value is beyond the permissible limit, you must have the right or necessary paperwork required by customs.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

These include receipts or invoices, insurance documents, certifications, and identification paperwork. In addition to these, you also need to fill out the formal form for jewelry declaration.

You will list every item and all other valuables you may be carrying and their specific details.

The paperwork will allow for fast verification of your details and the jewelry, and customs will not raise any questions or even doubt your intentions.

4. Wear the jewelry

While you may have to declare the jewelry when you have expensive jewelry, you may want to wear all your jewelry or as much of your jewelry as you can.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

Doing this saves you the headache and hustle of dealing with TSA. Also, wearing most of your jewelry means avoiding paying too much in the duty fees.

5. Get travel and jewelry insurance

Your gold or diamond jewelry value notwithstanding, you need always to get travel and jewelry insurance. This applies even if you are only traveling with one 18k gold earrings, necklace, and bracelet set.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

Such jewelry doesn’t come cheap, regardless of where you buy it from in the world, and because you wouldn’t want to lose the jewelry and have to dig deep in your pockets to find similar jewelry later, make sure that your insurance information for the jewelry is up to date. You may also make the insurer aware of your travel plans, just in case.

6. Where to put the gold jewelry

If you cannot wear all the gold or diamond jewelry, don’t put the jewelry in your bags, especially not in the bag you are planning to check-in.

Instead, it would help to keep the jewelry in the carry-on luggage.

This is important because the customs officer may want to check your bags, which they often do for security reasons to avoid misuse or illegal activities.

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

So, even if you have declared the bulk of your gold jewelry, they will want to check if you carry the amount of gold jewelry you have declared.

In the unfortunate event that this happens to you, we recommend asking for a private room for the check because you wouldn’t want the rest of the passengers and the entire airport to be alerted that you are carrying valuable gold jewelry in your bags.

7. Keep the jewelry safe in a travel jewelry case

Carrying Gold Or Diamond Jewellery

Even in your carry-on baggage, you need to keep the jewelry safe by keeping it all in a secure travel jewelry case.

We recommend choosing a travel case with zipper enclosures and dedicated spaces for the different kinds of jewelry you’re traveling with.

You need this, especially when you cannot wear all your jewelry at once.

Follow the recommendations above to ensure that the gold jewelry you are taking to the US doesn’t land you in trouble.

You also need to know that the US restricts the importation of gold items from Sudan, Iran, and Cuba; which means that even if you bought your gold jewelry from another country, but they were manufactured in these countries, you won’t be able to take them to the US.

Overall, the tips above will ensure that you are on the right side of the law and even save you time.

As anyone who has gone on vacation with more than one necklace and no travel jewelry case knows, sometimes you come home with zero necklaces and two knotty chains. Well, dear readers, it’s time to change that. Let this be the year you invest in a spiffy travel jewelry case so you can easily travel with earrings, bracelets, rings, watches, necklaces, cufflinks, and the like. Heck, some of these travel jewelry cases we love so much, we say they’re perfect for keeping on your bathroom vanity for pieces you regularly wear.

Here’s another idea: If you’re planning a wedding, chances are your bridesmaids or loved ones already have plenty of jewelry. Instead of adding to their pile of baubles, give them a jewelry box (bonus points if you get it monogrammed!) to store everything in style as they travel.

Ahead, we’ve scoured the internet high and low for the best jewelry cases on the market, paying special attention to price, size, and storage options. In the end, we chose the Abbott Lyon Mauve Canvas Travel Case as the best in class. Whether you seek a compact jewelry case, a leather jewelry box, or a monogrammed jewelry holder, we’ve got incredible options for you.

These are the best travel jewelry cases to buy now.

We recommend the Abbot Lyon Mauve Canvas Travel Case because it features internal organization for all types of jewelry, is durable, and is aesthetically pleasing. Compact and affordable, we also like the Teamoy Small Jewelry Travel Case .

What to Look for in Jewelry Cases

You want to shop for a jewelry case based on how much jewelry you plan to travel with or typically travel with to ensure it’s a good fit for your needs. While soft-shell jewelry cases are usually easier to squish into tight spaces in your luggage, a hard-shell jewelry box likely isn’t as nimble. The actual layout of the case matters, too. If you want to see everything at a glance, look for jewelry cases with ring bars, straps, and snap closures to hold necklaces and bracelets in place versus those with multiple zippered pockets. While some prefer zippered pockets, not everyone likes rummaging through them to find the piece they seek versus seeing it at a glance.

From travel toiletries to travel makeup bags , your budget for a given purchase should guide what you ultimately decide to purchase. While you might be tempted to go with a cheap find, we think spending the extra dollars on a quality travel jewelry case is worth it since you want to keep your rings, necklaces, earrings, and the like protected and free from tangles (now that’s a headache you don’t want to deal with on day one in paradise!).

Type of Storage

Are you the traveler who likes sprucing up their accessories mid-way through the day? Look for a travel jewelry case with detachable pockets so you can slip one or two into your purse so you can switch up your look as needed. Are you all about earrings and rings but don’t have a ton of necklaces or bracelets? In that case, seek out travel jewelry cases with plenty of ring bars to tuck rings and stud earrings into while in transit. And one more thing: On the off chance you’re in a rush and forget to clasp your favorite necklace in your jewelry case, and it falls out into your luggage and gets thrown in the wash with your dirty clothes or otherwise lost, we recommend opting for travel jewelry cases that have zip-around closures, so everything stays in the vessel.

Get organized before you go. Yes, that means putting the necklaces in the necklace slots or standalone pockets so they don’t get tangled with other pieces, the rings on the ring bar, and earrings on cushions or ring bars as well.

Losing your engagement ring or a precious heirloom piece or getting jewelry stolen? That’s a definite no for us. When in doubt, we say leave it home and leave travel jewelry cases and boxes to be stuffed with fun, affordable pieces. You can also consider putting expensive jewelry in your hotel’s lockbox or buying a jewelry box with a lock like this one from Vaultz .

As with any fabric, you’ll want to follow the care instructions included with the product and/or described on the website. However, many materials can be wiped clean with a soft dry cloth. Leather can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth, leather cleaner, and conditioner.

Tips For Travelling Safely with Fine Jewellery

Travelling with jewellery can be a tricky affair. Whether you’re travelling for leisure or business, bringing along your valuable pieces can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. It’s important to take the necessary precautions to ensure that your jewellery stays safe and secure throughout your journey. In this blog, we will provide some useful tips for travelling with jewellery, including how to pack, wear, and store your pieces.

travelling with jewellery

Research the Local Customs and Laws

Before travelling to a new country or region, it’s important to research the local customs and laws regarding jewellery. In some countries, it may be customary to wear or display certain types of jewellery, while in others, it may be frowned upon or even illegal. For instance, in some Middle Eastern countries, it’s customary for women to wear traditional jewellery, while in others, wearing too much jewellery can be considered ostentatious or disrespectful. Researching these customs can help you determine what types of jewellery to bring along and how to wear them appropriately.

Pack Your Jewellery Carefully

When packing your jewellery for travel, it’s important to take care of how you pack and store each piece. First, separate your jewellery by type (e.g., necklaces, bracelets, earrings) and then by material (e.g., gold, silver, costume). This will help prevent any tangling or damage during transit. Next, use jewellery pouches or cases to store each piece. Avoid packing your jewellery in checked luggage, as it can be more susceptible to loss or theft. Instead, pack it in your carry-on bag or wear it while travelling.

Wear Your Jewellery Wisely

When travelling with jewellery, it’s important to wear it wisely. Avoid wearing jewellery that’s too flashy or expensive, as this can attract unwanted attention. Instead, opt for more understated pieces that complement your outfit without drawing too much attention. Additionally, if you’re travelling to an area with a high crime rate or where pickpocketing is common, consider leaving your jewellery at home or in a hotel safe.

Store Your Jewellery Safely

When you’re not wearing your jewellery, it’s important to  store  it safely. Invest in a small travel safe or a lockable jewellery case to keep your pieces secure in your hotel room. Alternatively, you can leave your jewellery with the hotel’s front desk or in a safe deposit box. Make sure to keep an inventory of your jewellery, including photos and descriptions, in case anything does go missing or gets stolen.

Wrapping Up

Travelling with jewellery can be a fun and rewarding experience, as long as you take the necessary precautions to keep your pieces safe and secure. By researching local customs and laws, packing your jewellery carefully, wearing it wisely, and storing it safely, you can ensure that your jewellery stays protected throughout your journey.

Related Questions:

Can i bring my jewellery in my carry-on luggage.

Yes, you can bring your jewellery in your carry-on luggage. However, be sure to pack it carefully in a jewellery pouch or case to prevent any damage during transit.

Is it safe to wear jewellery while travelling?

It depends on where you’re travelling and what type of jewellery you’re wearing. If you’re travelling to an area with a high crime rate or where pickpocketing is common, it may be safer to leave your jewellery at home or in a hotel safe.

Should I invest in a travel safe for my jewellery?

If you’re travelling with expensive or valuable jewellery, investing in a travel safe or lockable jewellery case can provide an extra layer of security. Alternatively, you can leave your jewellery with the hotel’s front desk or in a safe deposit box.

How can I keep my jewellery clean while travelling?

To keep your jewellery clean while travelling, bring along a soft cloth or a jewellery  cleaning  solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasives, as these can damage your jewellery. You can also invest in a small ultrasonic jewellery cleaner, which uses high-frequency sound waves to remove dirt and grime from your pieces.

What should I do if my jewellery gets lost or stolen while travelling?

If your jewellery gets lost or stolen while travelling, report it to the local authorities and your insurance company as soon as possible. Make sure to have a detailed inventory of your jewellery, including photos and descriptions, to assist in the recovery process. It’s also a good idea to keep a copy of this inventory in a safe place at home.

I LOVE fashionable, costume jewelry – they are fun and easy to wear. Throughout the years, I have collected boxes of travel jewelry. My MOST favorite ones are necklaces with pendants and bracelets.

WEATHER ALERT

A warning and 3 advisories in effect for 25 regions in the area

Biden and trump both plan trips to the mexico border thursday, dueling for advantage on immigration.

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will make dueling trips to the U.S-Mexico border on Thursday, as both candidates try to turn the nation’s broken immigration system to their political advantage in an expected campaign rematch this year.

Biden will travel to Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley, an area that often sees large numbers of border crossings, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday. He will meet border agents and discuss the need for bipartisan legislation. It would be his second visit to the border as president. He traveled to El Paso in January last year.

“He wants to make sure he puts his message out there to the American people," Jean-Pierre said.

Trump, for his part, will head to Eagle Pass, Texas, about 325 miles or 520 kilometers away from Brownsville, another hotspot in the state-federal clash over border security, according to three people who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the plans.

Biden, speaking in New York on Monday, said he had planned to head to the border on Thursday and didn't know “my good friend apparently is going," too. The White House announcement of the trip came after Trump’s plan to visit the border had been reported. The president declined to say whether he would meet with migrants on the trip.

The trips underscore immigration’s central importance in the 2024 presidential race, for Republicans and increasingly for Democrats, particularly after congressional talks on a deal to rein in illegal migration collapsed.

Biden has excoriated Republicans for abandoning the bipartisan border deal after Trump came out in opposition to the plan to tighten asylum restrictions and create daily limits on border crossings. Trump, meanwhile, has dialed up his anti-immigrant rhetoric, suggesting migrants are poisoning the blood of Americans.

The number of people who are illegally crossing the U.S. border has been rising for years because of complicated reasons that include climate change, war and unrest in other nations, the economy, and cartels that see migration as a cash cow.

The administration has been pairing crackdowns at the border with increasing legal pathways for migrants designed to steer people into arriving by plane with sponsors, not illegally on foot to the border. Under a recent Biden administration rule, many migrants are presumed ineligible for asylum if they arrive illegally between ports. It depends on the circumstances of their arrival, including whether they are single adults or families.

The numbers of migrants flowing to the U.S-Mexico border have far outpaced the capacity of an immigration system that has not been substantially updated in decades. Arrests for illegal crossings fell by half in January, but there were record highs in December.

Trump's campaign says Biden's plan to visit the border is a sign that the president is on the defensive over immigration and the issue is a problem for his reelection effort. Trump's campaign press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said Biden was chasing Trump and is responsible for the “worst immigration crisis in history.”

Biden's camp says it's House Republicans who are on the defensive, after Trump flatly said he told GOP legislators to tank the bill that would have funded border agents and other Homeland Security authorities. The New York Times first reported the travel.

While he continues to criticize Republicans for legislative inaction, Biden is considering executive actions to help discourage migrants from coming to the U.S. Among the actions under consideration by Biden is invoking authorities outlined in Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which give a president broad leeway to block entry of certain immigrants into the United States if it would be “detrimental” to the national interest.

But without changes to law, any executive action taken by the administration that cracks down on border crossings is likely to be challenged in court. The White House has informed some lawmakers on Capitol Hill that Biden will not announce an executive order on immigration during his border trip on Thursday, according to a person familiar with the conversations.

“There is no executive action that would have done what the Senate bipartisan proposal would have done,” Jean-Pierre said. “Politics got in the way.”

According to an AP-NORC poll in January , concerns about immigration climbed to 35% from 27% last year. Most Republicans, 55%, say the government needs to focus on immigration in 2024, while 22% of Democrats listed immigration as a priority. That’s up from 45% and 14%, respectively, compared with December 2022.

Trump is again making immigration the centerpiece of his campaign, seizing on images of migrants sleeping in police stations and in hangars as proof that Biden’s policies have failed. He’s made frequent trips to the border as a candidate and president.

During his 2016 campaign, he traveled to Laredo, Texas in July 2015 for a visit that highlighted how his views on immigration helped him win media attention and support from the GOP base. Since leaving office he’s been to the border at least twice, including to pick up the endorsement of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Biden, meanwhile, visited the border only once, and he did not come into contact with any migrants. Rather, he inspected Customs and Border Protection facilities and walked a stretch of border wall. During negotiations on the border bill, he suggested he'd shut down asylum if given the power, a remarkable shift to the right for Democrats who are increasingly concerned by the same scenes of migrants encampments , and are asking the administration to speed up work authorizations so families who have arrived can at least seek employment.

The failure of the border bill this month has caused the Homeland Security Department, which controls the border, to assess its priorities and shift money between its agencies to plug holes. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is considering slashing detention beds to 22,000 from 38,000 and reducing deportation flights. That would mean more migrants released into the U.S. who arrive at the border.

Miller reported from New York.

Airport officials said three people were involved in the crash, but there were no serious injuries to report.

A short time later, the Federal Aviation Administration reported that two people were on board the single-engine Cirrus SR20.

Airport officials said they expect the runway will reopen on Tuesday evening.

Cody Herzog works nearby, and he told News 6 that he was at his business when he noticed something unusual.

“Just hear a loud, what sounded basically like a car crash...” he said. “I didn’t pay much attention to it at all. I just kind of minded my own business until I started hearing all the sirens come through.”

The FAA said that the National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation.
