Afro Nation Detroit 2023

Afro Nation Detroit 2023 is a unique fusion of Afrobeats and Detroit’s legendary music history, and it is set to take the US by storm. This festival is regarded as one of the most anticipated Afrobeats festivals in the USA.

For two days, Afro Nation Detroit 2023 will bring together music enthusiasts and cultural aficionados to revel in the essence of Afrobeats. The event will have a  lineup of who’s who in mainstream African music. This includes performances from Burna Boy, Davido, Naira Marley, Libianca, P-Square, Kizz Daniel, Stonebwoy, Victony, and Nissi.

Following the success of the Ghana edition last year, the organisers, Live Nation, have confirmed that Lagos will be the next destination for the music concert. 

The Afro Nation Festival has earned a reputation for uniting music lovers from around the globe, and its arrival in Lagos promises to be a game-changer for the Nigerian music scene. Lagos is perfect for an event of this magnitude with its rich musical heritage and vibrant cultural landscape.

Felabration 2023

Felabration is a week-long celebration of music, art, and activism. This event honours the life of Fela Kuti, the creator of the Afrobeat genre and a revered human rights activist. Conceived in 1998 by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti, Felabration is one of Nigeria’s largest music festivals. 

This year’s edition carries the theme “Question Jam Answer,” drawing inspiration from the classic record released by Fela in 1972. The song’s message resonates with the current socio-political climate of the country, making it a fitting theme for the festival.

According to the Felabration Organising Committee, Felabration 2023 will feature Senior Secondary Schools, Afrobics Dance Competition, Dress Fela Fashion Competition, artwork exhibitions, and a musical concert that offers a lineup of Afrobeat and Afrobeats stars.  

Date: Monday, 9th – Sunday, 15th October 2023.

Afrobeats Sensation Ayra Starr Set To Rock Birmingham, London, And Manchester In UK Tour

Leading Afrobeats Diva , Ayra Starr, is set to rock fans in the United Kingdom (UK) later this week as she embarks on her ‘World Tour.’

She is billed to perform in Manchester, Birmingham, and London, starting November 10 to 13, 2023, her record label, Mavin Records, announced on Saturday.

Dubbed “21: The World Tour”, Ayra Starr will be on stage alongside Mavin Record’s new signee, Lifestyle Teddy, a rapper and writer described as talented and multi-dimensional.

Videos of the Sability composer performing in Madrid, Spain, were circulated on Monday, attracting mixed remarks from followers of the lively singer. Patrons believe her upcoming event in the UK will be no exception, as she has always given her audience their money’s worth.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Olamide recently posted on his X (Twitter) describing the 21-year-old as the “best artiste this generation has ever seen.”

Organizers of the upcoming concert say Ayra Starr is “impossible to ignore.” Her new single Rhythm & Blues , released early in September, has been endorsed worldwide and continues to attract positive reviews from listeners.

Today, Human Music Group Sensations Glass Animals announced their 2024 global TOUR OF EARTH . Promoted by Live Nation, the 41-date tour sees the band headlining the biggest venues of their career thus far and kicks off on Wednesday, August 7 in Charlotte, NC at PNC Music Pavilion, with stops across North America, Europe, and the UK in Toronto, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Vancouver, Inglewood, Paris, Milan, Amsterdam, Glasgow, and more before wrapping up with an epic hometown performance in London, UK at The O2. The GRAMMY-nominated and BRIT-nominated, Diamond-selling British band  will be joined by special guests Kevin Abstract , Eyedress , and Blondshell on select dates throughout the North America leg. The Big Moon will join on all dates across Europe and the UK.

The tour will see the band playing many iconic venues around the world for the first time, including Madison Square Garden in New York, Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, The Gorge Amphitheatre in Seattle, Kia Forum in Inglewood, 3Arena in Dublin, The O2 in London, and many more.

Yesterday, Glass Animals announced details of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much , set for release on July 19th . The album is introduced by the band’s new single, “ Creatures in Heaven ,” out now—listen HERE and watch the visualizer HERE .

I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020’s critically revered Dreamland , which sold over 12 million copies globally and gave life to “ Heat Waves ,” the record-breaking song that became the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years . It was the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1995 to claim #1 for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 , and the first song to reach #1 with a single writer and producer since Pharell’s “Happy” —leading to the pop world’s biggest acts, including Florence Welch , all wanting to work with Glass Animals frontman, songwriter, and producer, Dave Bayley . But the birth of I Love You So F***ing Much was an existential crisis. Dave found himself struggling to make sense of this newfound global stardom, having watched it all happen while the world was in lockdown.

  He says, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms in history to push that feeling into a full existential crisis. In forced isolation, watching trees tumble down mountains and assuming “death was coming,” Dave began asking questions of himself, of the universe, and of the human experience: namely, love. As he came to accept himself as an introvert, Dave realized that “human connection and the love between us is much bigger, more important, and more complex than anything else” . “Creatures in Heaven” is the sublime first glimpse into ten intimate love stories set against the backdrop of the universe.

Afrobeats star Davido to sue over April Fool’s joke

Nigerian music star Davido has instructed his lawyers to sue over a April Fool's joke that has spectacularly backfired.

The prank story alleged that Afrobeats singer had been arrested in Kenya after cocaine was found on his private jet.

The 31-year-old, who has just finished an East African tour, said the fake report was "extremely irresponsible".

"I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world," he said on social media.

"Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I've made home throughout my career," his statement on X, formerly Twitter, continued .

The April Fool's story - first published by Kenya's K24 TV on Monday - went viral on social media.

The Nigerian megastar, who had just performed to packed audiences at the Timeless Concert in Kampala and Raha Fest in Nairobi, said it led to him receiving a barrage of calls.

Such was the backlash that Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tweeted a screengrab of the headline with "Fake News" stamped across it mid-morning on Monday.

"I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria," Davido said on Tuesday.

"I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of 'April Fools', and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation."

K24 TV has not responded to Davido's move to initiate legal action.

Many Kenyans felt the prank was inappropriate, but some have been commenting on social media that they hope the debacle can be resolved amicably.
