An interesting thing about this beach is that while the sea appears blue here at noon, it takes on a turquoise tint in the evening hours.

Every beach in Vishakhapatnam is endowed with ample beauty, each serving a different purpose. While some are great for water sports and other fun-filled activities, others are perfect to relax and spend some quiet moments. Then there are a few where you can do both. If you are keen to experience this port city through its beaches, make sure to visit all of them. 5 Absolutely Gorgeous Beaches That You've Gotta Visit In Vizag

aarushijain7

Even though some of us might be people who prefer mountains as opposed to beaches, we refuse to believe that one could ever hate watching the perfect sunrise/sunset over the calming waves hitting the golden sand beaches. Whether you’re looking for a beautiful spot to start your mornings at, a place to have the perfect date or just a place to drown your sorrows - beaches are the perfect drop for almost all life occasions. So choose your haunt from our picks of some of the best beaches Vizag has on offer, so read on ahead!

1. Rushikonda Beach

article image

Managed by the Andhra Pradesh state tourism board and is thus a very popular spot with tourists and locals alike. It is one of the very few beaches in the city that offers a good amount of water sports, which makes it all the more attractive. With its golden sand, tidy waves, long coast and green surroundings, the beach has been termed as the Jewel of the East Coast.

2. Yarada Beach

article image

Some places become ingrained in the heart of the city citizens and become an integral and beautiful part of their lives. Yarada beach is one of them. A non-touristy, less frequented beach, this beautiful area is more for morning walks, dates, peaceful group outings, sunset watching and more. Its beauty lies in its calmness and is an ideal spot if you’re looking for a non-crowded beach to spend the day at.

3. Lawson’s Bay

article image

Located near the submarine museum of INS Kurusura, amidst locals, Lawson’s is known as the posh beach in the city. A quiet and sublime beach, this is surrounded by residential communities and hotels and despite having relatively less walking space, the picturesque beauty makes it a major tourist attraction. Experience the scenic beauty of and calm of nature by visiting this absolute stunner of a place!

4. Bheemili Beach

article image

Bheemili or Bheemunipatnam Beach is one of the safest and most colourful beaches around in Vizag. Dotted with cute old French and Dutch houses, the area is quite lively and has a very Goa and Pondicherry vibe to it. The beach is well-connected by a 4-lane road, so it’s easy to access and has lots of cafes and restaurants around. Additionally, the beach is the safest in the city, so that’s always a hit factor for visitors.

5. Ramakrishna Beach

article image

While Kendall Jenner may be enjoying horse riding on the beaches, we’re pretty psyched about our own camel ride adventures that too at our very own RK Beach. Studded with locals and tourists, everyone who visits Ramakrishna beach falls in love with the beauty and ambience here, and oh the sunset, the sunset at the RK beach is really something to die for. Move away Juhu, we have a cleaner, prettier, more active beach in our city.

If you too are craving some vitamin-sea, go plan those perfect beach days on these beautiful, pristine & calming beaches!

Beaches to Visit in Vizag

A Vizag beach is sometimes all you need to feel a little better. Coz we get it, bro. You’re at an age when everything feels like a chore and an eXiSteNtiAl cRisiS is always right around the corner. Thanks to your hectic lifestyle and the state of the world right now. But fortunately, watching the sun go down and staring at the unending stretch of the wide blue sea can make your own blues go away. And also give you some much-needed perspective (well, not the kind they post on Instagram motivation posts tho). If these things are what you’re searching for, the beaches in Visakhapatnam will put them right onto your plate. Along with some sand inside your sandals.

Now, we know sunsets and seashores are all that you might love to fantasize about. But the countless pending assignments and excel sheets always tend to put a stop to your happy thoughts, don’t they? Yep. And that’s exactly why we bought you some extra free time by compiling a list of the best beaches in Vizag. Because we, at Stanza Living residences , know a thing, or two, about curating a fun time for young folks like you who’re living away from home. Far from your hometown and far away from your loved ones. It’s the only reason why our residences have got the best chill game in town. Meaning, a one-of-a-kind common area with foosball, pool tables, and plenty of gaming controllers to match up scores with your roomies. Though, what good is a pool table if you can’t find the time to play? It’s why we clean your rooms, take care of your laundry and cook everyday meals for you. So you can use up all that free time and spend it on chilling and relaxing. Or if you’re in the mood for the outdoors, spend it on going out to the top beaches near Visakhapatnam. Now, all you gotta do is hit the bookmark button, note down these names, and replace your cheese-stained pajamas with floral shirts, short pants, and sunglasses.

Best Beaches in Vizag

Top 6 beaches to visit in Vizag in 2022 are:

  • Rishikonda Beach

Yarada Beach

Rama krishna beach.

  • Bheemili Beach

Gangavaram Beach

Lawsons bay beach.

Rishikonda Beach is located just 16 kilometers away from Central Vizag. So 16 km is basically all that’s between you and the soft golden sands with a view of the sparkling blue waters. And some LIT sunset pics for your insta profile. The kind you won’t even need your photo editing apps to touch up. Sorry, Adobe.

Must Read: Schools in Visakhapatnam .

If you’re looking for a beach where you won’t find sandals and garbage bags tucked under the sand instead of seashells, head to the Yarada beach right away. It’s the cleanest Visakhapatnam beach with gorgeous hills surrounding on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the fourth. In short, this is one of those beaches that’ll make you feel exactly like how a Julia Roberts film does – warm, inspiring, and all things full of life.

Named after the Ramakrishna Ashram on the beach road, the RK Beach is where you’ll find loads of peace and quiet. But peace and quiet are not the only things you can feast on tho. There are plenty of seafood stalls for you to try the local grub too. And if you wanna do something more adventurous, you could also try windsurfing and water surfing. Just make sure you don’t go on a surfboard right after devouring a plateful of crab bhajji, please.

Suggested Read: Places to Visit in Visakhapatnam .

Everything about Bheemi Beach is wildly touristy. The beach shore is lined with thatched cottages that give this place an old-world charm. A 17th-century fort that adds to the mystique of the beach. And the all-around lush greenery which makes you feel that exotic feelzzz. Basically, we don’t know about you, but heading out to the Bheemili beach with Lennon shades and Hawaiian sandals is like entering a Conde Nast magazine cover.

Although they don’t allow swimming in the Gangavaram Beach, there’s still plenty to do (like playing beach volleyball or taking long walks) when it comes to spending quality time with your friends or your special someone. Also, the scenic beauty of this beach is the reason why a lot of movie songs have been shot there. So don’t be confused if you see a couple of directors scouting the beach in their typical khaki shorts and hunting hats.

8 Of The Best Places To Visit In Vizag

Incredible places in Vizag to visit, based on my experience.

BannerImg

Vizag is often lampooned for being a bit chaotic, far too bling, and not old enough to be historically relevant for a visitor. However, the city’s magic lurks in its details. Walking on the pedestrian promenade of Ramakrishna Beach in Vizag, you get to encounter INS Kursura, India’s fifth submarine and key proponent in the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. The decommissioned submarine is open to the public and attracts more than 3,00,000 visitors a year. The city promises spellbinding views of pristine beaches with fascinating hill scapes as their companion from several vantage points. Thus, there are a lot of incredible places to visit in Vizag. The popular and sacred park of Kailash Giri, the gorgeous Rushikonda Beach, the beautiful Ross Hill Church, the eerie Dutch Cemetery at Bheemili, and the magnificent ocean view from the lighthouse at Dolphin’s Nose make Vizag a potpourri of visuals and experiences.

Incredible Places To Visit In Vizag At Least Once

1. ins kursura submarine museum.

INS Kursura submarine museum, places to visit in Vizag

The INS Kursura is a legendary submarine. The Soviets built this underwater war machine capable of being armed with 22 torpedoes. It was instrumental in guarding the Visakhapatnam coast in 1971 from enemy attack. Sankalp Reddy’s movie ‘The Ghazi Attack’ (2017) was based on the sinking of the Pakistani Submarine PNS Ghazi by INS Kursura. Thus the celebrated ‘war hero’ which was decommissioned in 2001 found its pedestal on the popular Ramakrishna Beach in Vizag, a first-of-its-kind Submarine Museum in South Asia.

Accessible to the public since 2002, the 91.3-metre-long, 8-metres-wide submarine showcases its various aspects to the visitors—a radar room, sonar room, weapons, and control room, along with information on the evolution of submarine class structures through written scriptures, artifacts, and plenty of photographs. The entry fee for adults is INR 40, and the use of a camera is chargeable. This is one of the unmissable places to visit in Vizag.

2. Kailasagiri Park

statue of Shiva and Parvati at Kailasagiri Park, places to visit in Vizag

Spread over 100 acres over a hill (more than 500 feet above sea level), this sprawling park offers spellbinding views of the city’s hills and coastline and also has many other attractions to its name. The 40 feet tall white statue of Shiva and Parvati is the most beautiful structure on this hill. The plastic-free zone is maintained by VUDA (Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority). Apart from plenty of manicured lawns and flower beds, the other points of interest include the floral clock, a  toy train (for kids), the ‘Titanic’ viewpoint, and the recently opened World Telugu Museum. The first of its kind in the world, the museum showcases the evolution and significance of the Telugu language.

3. Rushikonda Beach

Rushikonda beach, places to visit in Vizag

Vizag is one of the few cities in India where the landscape treats you with views of mountains and beaches together. Probably the most beautiful beach in Vizag, Rushikonda Beach is surrounded by hills on either side. It is a combination of thick stretches of sand on one side and beautiful rock outcrops on the other. Located an hour away from the city centre, it also offers lots of options for water sports—jet skiing, speed boating, kayaking, paramotoring, and scuba diving.

4. Buddhist Ruins At Thotlakonda

Ruins of stupas at Thotlakonda, places to visit in Vizag

Six km from Rushikonda Beach, a slight detour takes you to the hill where the Thotlakonda Buddhist Monastery rests. This 2000-year-old settlement was discovered as recently as 1976 by the Indian Navy. During an aerial survey, while looking for a suitable place for a naval base, the team sighted Buddhist ruins on the top of the hill. Excavations started in 1988 and went on till  1992, and revealed several ancient structures and monuments.

Today visitors can walk through the ruins of  Maha Stupas, Votive Stupas, a Stone Pillared Congregation Hall, several Rock Cut Cisterns, Chaitya Grihas, Votive Platforms, Viharas, a Kitchen Complex and Dining Hall—all found by the Department of Archaeology and Museums. Epigraphical evidence indicates Hinayana Buddhism being practiced here. There are numerous rock-cut troughs on the rocky bed of the hills which were presumably used to store water for the monastery. In fact, the name Thotlakonda in Telugu means rock-cut cisterns. With the apparent absence of royal patronage, the rise of Brahminism, and dwindling maritime trade, the monastery fell into decline during the 3rd-4th century AD. For history enthusiasts, this is among the top places to visit in Vizag.

5. Dutch Cemetery

Dutch cemetery at Bheemunipatnam, Andhra Pradesh

Further down the same road, a 20-minute drive will bring you to the uncanny and eerie 17th-century Dutch cemetery at Bheemli Beach in the small town of Bheemunipatnam. This is an obscure ancient Dutch town that doesn’t receive much attention from the tourism department and is therefore in a state of neglect. The oldest grave in the cemetery is from 1661. Not a place to be visited in the dark, as the upkeep of the place is also mediocre. However, the unique shape of the cemetery with its tall spire-like structure will make the visit worthwhile. This is one of the unique places to visit in Vizag.

6. Bheemli Beach

Bheemli beach, Andhra Pradesh

Bheemli Beach is located at the origin of the Gosthani River and is popular for its beautiful stretch of sand laced with several statues depicting different themes and serving as tourist attractions. The statues have been destroyed by nature and rebuilt many times by the administration. A few upscale properties have cropped up in this small town near the beach, giving hope to the prospect of the ancient town’s revival.

7. Ross Hill Church

Ross Hill is located adjacent to the Vizag port. The hill takes its name from a local judge Monsieur Ross who built a house here in the mid-1860s which was subsequently converted to a church in 1867 by Vicar General Fr. Richard. The church is a symbol of communal harmony as it welcomes people from all religions, castes, and creeds to its premises. The place provides beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the natural harbour.

8. Dolphin’s Nose

View from Dolphin's nose, Vizag (Visakhapatnam)

Parallel to Ross Hill is a small hill called Dolphin’s Nose, named for its similarity to the creature when seen from a distance. Approximately 350 feet above sea level, the vantage point provides breathtaking views of the city, more so if you climb up the small lighthouse. The viewpoint is tiny, and more often than not, you will be cramped for space. It provides a spectacular view of the Bay of Bengal with lush greenery at the foothills on one side and the city’s coastline on the other.

Explore The Best Of Vizag

Apart from the above must-visit places in Vizag, if you have more time on your hand, you can venture further south from Dolphin’s Nose to the secluded Yarada Beach (a 30-minute drive) or opt for a morning stroll in VUDA Park which is built on a hill slope and provides panoramic views of the ocean.

Visit Andhra Pradesh’s largest city and the only natural harbour of Eastern India for its beautiful beaches, verdant green mountains, long marine drives, forgotten history, and spectacular views of the Bay of Bengal from numerous vantage points.

Visakhapatnam is such a beautiful city, with so much to offer. I’m dying to visit here after reading your blog. Thanks for sharing such a great collection of beautiful places to visit. I’m definitely saving it for later.

Such a great variety of things to do; from beaches to caves, taking in submarine museums and airplanes. The clean beach is a bonus too.

You make it sound so great! I would love to go to the waterfalls, the nature preserve and both museums. How convenient that the museums are right across the street from each other too!

I have been to a few submarine museums in the US, but they were all still in the water. This is the first time I see a submarine museum that is not submerged. Looks interesting and I wonder if it was painted silver in front originally?

Wow, it sounds like there’s so much to do in Visakhapatnam! I would definitely check out the museums (especially the submarine and coffee ones) and that waterfall is gorgeous!

Vizag looks like such a beautiful place. I especially love the wildlife sanctuary. Can’t wait to visit soon!

Oh wow..i would love to visit that sub..didn’t know such a thing existed!

Very well written blog, I never knew one can visit so many places in Vizag. I can see a kid will have loads of fun, visiting the submarine and aircraft museum. But the best part is Lambasingi, it looks too surreal and must-visit kinds. How much a 3 day trip will cost, with a decent staying option?

I have many friends in vizag but never got a chance to visit. Now you have given me a plenty of reasons to see the city. Museums look interesting especially the aircraft and coffee museum.

It has been decades I have visited Visakhapatnam, after reading your post I am sure what interests my family and choose accordingly.

Lol I have to admit, I was not expecting this to include a submarine! What a fun and unique museum!

I am so impressed with the variety of things to see in Visakhapatnam. The wildlife and nature is where I would want to spend most of my time, but those beaches and caves look fantastic too.

What an interesting place! I really like the submarine, and I think I would really enjoy visiting the Tribal Museum and learning about the cultures of the local tribes.

Went to Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad a couple of years back on my India visit. Loved Araku valley and the plantations. The submarine museum was unique. First time I ever entered into a submarine.

I love caves, waterfalls and wildlife, so would want to spend my time exploring that. My boys would love the aircraft and submarine museums. It sounds like we should visit the culture center if we come to the area as well to learn about the native people.

Your photo of Rushikonda Beach is amazing! I never thought of India as a beach destination, for me it’s more about the culture, the food and the temples… But to know that this is one of the cleanest beaches in India is very enticing!

Thanks for all your recommendations, this is a great resource!

Visakhapatnam certainly seems to have everything. I love beautiful beaches, but am more interested in the museums (especially the coffee museum!) and the caves. I would really like to visit this area. It looks beautiful but with so many interesting places to check out, it seems ideal for family visit.

We were sorry we did not get to visit the great beach areas in India when we visited. We certainly would head to Rushikonda Beach. As an ex-Navy guy, hubby would not miss the Naval Submarine or Aircraft Museums. I would bargain for a day trip to Katiki Falls or the Borra Caves in exchange for those museum days!

The Bora caves are SO BEAUTIFUL they remind me of Ruby Falls in Tennessee. Lambasing is quite eerie in a hauntingly beautiful way. This sounds like a great place to visit.

Beaches, wildlife and waterfalls, this place ticks plenty of must haves on my list. I can’t wait to visit.

FOOD, FOOD, AND MORE FOOD!

We cannot stress how important it is to explore Vizag’s food scene . We would recommend the classic idli and dosa spot – Priyanka Tiffin Center aka Suryababu Bandi. If you like to sit and eat, and don’t mind spending a little more money, check out Hotel Daspalla or Meghalaya.

For lunch, you need to have a South Indian Thali – be it at Subbayya Gari Hotel or Spicy Venue and finally some spicy Andhra delicacies at Zamindari Restaurant.

If you are not a fan of classic South Indian flavours, don’t worry. Head to Masaledaar or Amritsar Haveli. You have several chaat options at either Ladoo Gopal or Sweet India. We would also highly recommend a Vizag favourite – our classic Italian restaurant – FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster). You have to try their Chocolate Bomb!

These tourist places in Visakhapatnam are just a select few of the many wonders dotted in and around the city. With its blend of cultural heritage, natural splendour, and delicious food, the city promises an unforgettable journey for IPL match-goers who are visiting the city for the first time! So, pack your bags and create memories beyond the boundaries of cricket in this coastal odyssey.

Is your favorite No. 1? Here are the top 10 beaches worldwide, according to Tripadvisor

best beaches to visit in vizag

A trip to the beach is always a good idea.

Beaches rank as the top preferred vacation destination among 34% of Americans, according to a 30A Company 2022 survey of 1,040 U.S. adults. Even just the act of planning a vacation can make someone happy.

You likely understand why if you’ve ever spent time on a beach. The place where the water meets the land is a treat for the senses, from the sound of the water lapping the sand to the crisp scent of the salt in the air. Beaches are some of the most beautiful places.

Relaxing beachside is beneficial for your well-being , too. Saltwater has been found to release negative ions that help people feel calmer, and the meditative sound of waves can offer a sense of grounding. Even if you’re not frolicking in the water, the beach is where people can easily connect with nature, which is healing.

Luckily, there are beautiful beaches everywhere, from places renowned for postcard-perfect beaches like Turks and Caicos to the rugged cliffside beaches of Italy. Tripadvisor recently released its 2024 Travelers’ Choice Award for Beaches, which analyzed reviews and ratings between Oc. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023, to come up with the best beaches worldwide.

If you're not into rough waves: This little beach earned the top spot of the calmest beaches in North America

“Who doesn't love a beach? It's certainly my happy place – my kids playing in the surf, the sun sinking behind the horizon. And as the breadth and depth of Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Beach lists show, our community is obsessed with them, too,” Sarah Firshein, head of Tripadvisor editorial, told USA TODAY in a statement.

While last year’s best beaches included a wide variety of striking natural landscapes, this year’s awards brought back the picturesque soft sands and crystal-clear waters people imagine when they think of a beach vacation.

Here are the top 10 best beaches around the world, according to Tripadvisor.

10. Varadero Beach – Varadero, Cuba

A former fishing town, Varadero Beach is situated on the Hicacos Peninsula and stretches along the Caribbean Sea. The sprawling beach actually comprises six beaches , including Varadero, Rincón Francés and La Alameda, so there’s plenty of space to spread out. Visitors enjoy taking a refreshing dip in the vibrant water, snorkeling the sea beds, or water sports like jet skiing or windsurfing.

9. Siesta Beach – Siesta Key, Florida, U.S.

Snagging the spot as Tripadvisor's second-best beach in the U.S.,Siesta Beach is located on the stunning barrier island of Siesta Key in Florida. This slice of paradise is renowned for its white quartz sand, which is often called the softest sand in the world. A free island-wide trolley service makes it easy for guests to go to and from the beach.

8. Eagle Beach – Aruba, Caribbean

Aruba’s wide Eagle Beach stole people’s hearts last year by ranking as the second-best beach in the world. This idyllic beach is known for its calm waters and the chance to catch nesting turtles in summer. Eagle Beach invites visitors to unwind in paradise, whether basking in the sun's warmth, snorkeling amidst marine life, or simply strolling along its picturesque shores.

7. Manly Beach – Sydney, Australia

Manly Beach is known as the birthplace of surfing in Australia, having hosted the world’s first modern surfing contest in 1964. Besides trying out surfing, visitors can swim, dive, or sail along the stunning shoreline. Manly Beach is a long stretch of sand and includes a small cove, an enclosed swimming area for families and Shelly Beach, a sheltered spot for snorkeling. When people need respite from the sun and sand, they can walk the tree-lined promenade for food or shopping.

6. Anse Lazio – Praslin Island, Seychelles

Tucked into a bay on Praslin Island, Anse Lazio feels like a hidden oasis. The background of the pristine shoreline and azure sea are lush tropical greenery and large boulders. On Tripadvisor, visitors said they enjoyed playing in the waves or grabbing a drink at the on-site beach bar.

5. Grace Bay Beach – Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos

This Caribbean beach earned the same ranking in last year’s Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for Beaches, and it’s no wonder why. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, Grace Bay Beach captivates visitors with its tranquil ambiance since the turquoise waters are never rough, thanks to an offshore reef. Since the beach is part of the Princess Alexandra National Park , it remains pristine and unspoiled.

4. Kaanapali Beach – Lahaina, Hawaii, U.S.

Often called the best beach in the U.S. , Kaanapali Beach offers sparkling warm water and soft white sand. The one-mile-long beach is the ultimate beach escape for anyone, offering cliff-jumping, paddleboarding, snorkeling or just frolicking in its gentle waters. And since the beach is west-facing, it’s the perfect place to watch the sunset.

How to support Maui: 5 locally owned hotels to consider for a responsible visit

3. La Concha Beach – San Sebastian, Spain

With a long coastline comprising over 4,265 feet, La Concha Beach is a renowned jewel of the Basque Country. Located in the charming fishing town of San Sebastian, this picturesque bay is framed by rolling hills and an uninhabited island people can also visit. A charming promenade with restaurants and amusement offers guests a place to explore off-sand.

2. Spiaggia dei Conigli – Lampedusa, Italy

There’s much to enjoy at Spiaggia dei Conigli – or Rabbit Beach, a nod to the native rabbits that inhabit the area – besides the clear waters and white granite cliffs. Located on the island of Lampedusa off the Sicilian coast, the beach is only accessible by boat or a 15-minute trek by foot, but it’s well worth it. During the summer, it becomes one of the few places in the country where loggerhead sea turtles lay their eggs.

1. Praia da Falésia – Olhos de Agua, Portugal

Vast golden sands and bright blue water help make Praia da Falésia the most beautiful beach in the world, which ranked sixth place last year. With dramatic ombre cliffs of reds and oranges, this beach immerses its visitors in pristine natural beauty. According to Tripadvisor reviews, many visitors to the sprawling beach relished how uncrowded it felt.
