Expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021, Hyatt has acquired Apple Leisure Group (ALG), operator of approximately 100 mid- to upper-scale resorts and hotels around the world.

The properties are located in Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America and feature AMR Collection brands like Alua Hotels & Resorts , Breathless Resorts & Spas , Dreams Resorts & Spas , Secrets Resorts & Spa , and Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts .

While the full list is over 100 strong, here are some of the properties being added:

  • AluaSoul Ibiza (Es Canar, Spain)
  • AluaVillage Fuerteventura (Esquinzo, Spain)
  • Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa  (Cabo San Lucas, Mexico)

  • Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya (Akumal, Mexico)
  • Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa  (Puerto Calero, Spain)
  • Secrets Mallorca Villamil Resort & Spa  (Paguera, Spain)

Hot Tip: ALG, through its ALG Vacations arm, also operates Apple Vacations, FunJet Vacations, CheapCaribbean.com, Southwest Vacations, and United Vacations, and more, as well as Unlimited Vacation Club.

Apple Leisure Group Resort

Here are a few reasons Hyatt has provided for acquiring Apple Leisure Group:

  • Expand Footprint in Luxury and Resort Travel — Hyatt will be adding more luxury properties across the world, which is always great for consumers. While Hyatt already operates a significant number of luxury hotels , these tend to be focused in major metropolitan areas. ALG can now provide opportunities for luxury in ultra-touristy and smaller, off-the-beaten-path areas.
  • Expand Platform for Growth — The acquisition will allow both Hyatt and ALG to grow more than they could independently without each other.
  • Benefit Owners — Hotels in ALG’s collection can benefit off of Hyatt’s larger sales and marketing channels, allowing them access to a new set of customers.
  • Increase Choice and Experiences for Guests — The more choices, the better. Especially in touristy areas, guests will have more properties to choose from, allowing Hyatt to increase occupancy in these busy markets.

This acquisition is certainly beneficial for World of Hyatt guests, and we are likely to see new redemption opportunities starting in 2022, elite benefits, and more chances to earn when staying on paid rates. Apple Leisure Group also operates some of the largest all-inclusive properties throughout the world, which will be a welcome treat to Hyatt guests who have somewhat limited opportunities for all-inclusive stays.

100 new properties to join World of Hyatt as Apple Leisure Group deal closes

Clint Henderson

Hyatt Hotels has completed its acquisition of Apple Leisure Group, adding roughly 100 hotels and resorts to the Hyatt portfolio, including popular all-inclusive properties from brands like Secrets Resorts and Spas and Dreams Resorts and Spas.

In August, The Wall Street Journal reported that the deal would cost Hyatt roughly $2.7 billion in cash plus some debt.

For more TPG news delivered each morning to your inbox, sign up for our daily newsletter .

The deal dramatically expands Chicago-based Hyatt's offerings in Mexico and the Caribbean. Hyatt says the following brands are included in the deal:

  • Secrets® Resorts & Spas
  • Dreams® Resorts & Spas
  • Breathless® Resorts & Spas
  • Sunscape® Resorts & Spas
  • Zoëtry® Wellness & Spa Resorts
  • Alua® Hotels & Resorts

Apple Leisure (or ALG) also sells vacation packages and charters. It operates under the names Apple Vacations brands, CheapCaribbean.com and others.

"Hyatt and ALG have highly complementary brand portfolios and share a deep commitment to colleague and guest experiences focused on care," Mark Hoplamazian, Hyatt's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement . "Having first entered the fast-growing luxury all-inclusive space in 2013, we are ideally positioned to capture the significant and rising demand for leisure travel and extend the world-class hospitality we provide to a wide range of new travelers."

The hotel group said, "Hyatt now offers one of the largest collections of luxury all-inclusive resorts in the world, including new destinations for Hyatt such as Acapulco, Curaçao, the Canary Islands, Menorca and St. Martin."

According to Hyatt, the company is currently working to determine how the World of Hyatt program and ALG's Unlimited Vacation Club properties "can bring added value and unique loyalty benefits to their respective bases." The goal, the statement said, is for the integration to happen in 2022 so World of Hyatt members can start earning and redeeming points at more than 100 new properties through the program.

This is a step in the right direction for World of Hyatt considering one of the biggest complaints from loyalty members is the smaller footprint of Hyatt compared to Marriott and Hilton .

TPG previously reached out to Hyatt for details on the integration with World of Hyatt .

Hyatt senior vice president of loyalty, brand marketing and consumer insights Amy Weinberg told TPG:

"At Hyatt we are always listening to our guests and members, and understand they are craving even more leisure offerings. The acquisition of Apple Leisure Group will expand our luxury getaway options with 100 new luxury resorts to choose from across Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. It is too soon to know exactly how or when World of Hyatt will come to life within these resorts, however, please know that we are working fast and that we will share more as soon as we have it. In the meantime, we hope our guests and members will enjoy browsing the AMR collection to discover a new destination that's just right for them."

Hyatt, in a press release announcing the news, said, "Whether you're planning a rejuvenating wellness break, time to relax for two, some quality family time or the ultimate destination wedding, the planned addition of these new resorts to Hyatt's existing collection of 1,000+ hotels will give you even more memory-making options."

Apple generated $365 billion in revenue in 2021 , according to Business of Apps. Over half of this revenue was from iPhone sales.

But who’s pulling the strings? It’s easy to see such a ubiquitous company as a monolith, but Apple’s success actually relies on the decision-making of a few key individuals and organizations.

Who owns Apple?

Apple is a public company, meaning its ownership consists of shareholders. According to Macrotrends, Apple had over 16 billion shares outstanding as of March 2022.

Just curious?: We're here to answer your everyday questions.

Who owns Apple? Vanguard, BlackRock, Berkshire Hathaway last-known biggest shareholders; 2024 proxy statement expected

  • Apple is worth trillions of dollars.
  • Current ownership data on Apple's shareholders is set to be released in January 2024.
  • Apple's largest shareholder as of January 2023 was the firm Vanguard Group Inc .

Insider Today

Apple CEO Tim Cook's leadership has taken the company to new heights, including Apple's market cap peaking north of $3 trillion.

Cook himself has a large stake in Apple, but Apple's owners are mostly institutional investors.

Apple releases a proxy statement each year that reveals the institutions and individuals who hold 5% or more of the company's stock.

Who are the biggest owners of Apple?

Apple's latest proxy statement is set to be released in January 2024. Until then, we only know what the ownership looked like as of January 2023, almost a full year ago.

Lots could have changed since then, but at the time, the document revealed that Apple's largest shareholder was the firm Vanguard Group Inc., which held 7.96% of the company's shares, or more than 1.2 billion shares.

BlackRock Inc. owned about 1.1 billion shares, which was 6% of the shares issued, according to the document. The third largest holder of Apple stock was Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc., with holdings amounting to approximately 5.73% of Apple's outstanding shares.

The largest individual investor in the company in January 2023 was Arthur Levinson, the proxy stated, with over 4.5 million shares. Levinson has been an Apple board member since 2000 and chair of the board since 2011.

Next in line after Levinson, as far as individuals went, was Apple CEO Tim Cook, followed by Jeff Williams, the company's Chief Operating Officer, according to the document.

How much of Apple does Tim Cook own?

Up-to-date information on Tim Cook's ownership of Apple shares is set to be released in January 2024.

He owned 3.3 million shares as of October 2023, according to an SEC filing.

What other companies are connected to Apple?

Steve Jobs created the company NeXT in the mid-1980s. Amid a sales slump for Apple, Jobs resigned, founded the company, and poached Apple talent to work for NeXT.

In 1996, Apple bought out NeXT, believing NeXT's operating system had a better chance at market success. Jobs was rehired, and by July 1997, he was back in as CEO following a leadership coup.

Does Bill Gates own Apple stock?

Within Jobs' first year back as CEO, he entered into a partnership with Bill Gates' Microsoft, which made a $150 million investment in Apple and committed to developing software for macOS. In 2003, Microsoft opted to sell all of its Apple stock for $550 million.

Do Apple's founders still own Apple?

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak , and Ronald Wayne in 1976. Wayne sold his 10% stake in Apple for $1,500 12 days after founding Apple.

It's unclear what Wozniak's current ownership looks like, but he and Steve Jobs both originally had a 45% stake in the company. Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell Jobs , inherited 5.5 million shares of Apple stock, according to company documents from 2011. But in 2022, she vowed to give the majority of her wealth away through her philanthropic efforts, and it is unclear how much Apple stock she still holds.

Who Owns Unlimited Vacation Club?

By Michael Ferguson

Unlimited Vacation Club (UVC) is a popular travel club that offers its members an opportunity to enjoy exclusive vacation experiences at some of the world’s most luxurious resorts. However, there has been some confusion about who owns and operates UVC. In this article, we will delve into the ownership of UVC and shed some light on the matter.

What is Unlimited Vacation Club?

Before we dive into the ownership of UVC, let’s first understand what it is. UVC is a travel club that provides its members with access to an array of vacation opportunities, including all-inclusive resorts, luxury hotels, and cruises.

The Ownership of Unlimited Vacation Club

There have been rumors circulating about who owns UVC. However, it’s important to note that UVC is owned and operated by AMResorts, which is a subsidiary of Apple Leisure Group (ALG). ALG is a leading North American leisure travel company that specializes in providing all-inclusive vacation packages to travelers.

Who Owns Apple Leisure Group?

ALG was founded in 2001 by Alex Zozaya and private equity firm Bain Capital. However, in 2019, ALG was acquired by two private equity firms – KKR and KSL Capital Partners.

What Does This Mean for Unlimited Vacation Club Members?

The change in ownership of ALG doesn’t impact the membership benefits or offerings provided by UVC. Members can still enjoy their exclusive vacation experiences at some of the world’s most luxurious resorts without any disruptions.

In summary, Unlimited Vacation Club is owned and operated by AMResorts, which is a subsidiary of Apple Leisure Group. While ALG was previously owned by Alex Zozaya and Bain Capital, it was acquired in 2019 by KKR and KSL Capital Partners.

However, this doesn’t affect the benefits or offerings provided to UVC members. So, if you’re a UVC member, you can continue to enjoy your vacation experiences without any worries about ownership changes.

How demand for ultra luxury travel shows no sign of stopping.

The world of luxury travel has never been so buoyant. Recent launches by innovative and renowned brands are catering for a new group of ultra-luxury travellers who don’t need to look at the bill and who are demanding an increasingly exceptional way to see the world.

“Luxury hospitality is in the middle of a boom,” reports Skift , a leading travel industry intelligence platform. “What is becoming very apparent is a new group of ultra-luxury players who are pushing the industry to previously unseen limits, while catering to a mobile class of one percenters that don’t tend to look at the bill,” the platform reports.

The latest uber-luxe travel offerings take you to new heights.

Recent launches, proving this point, include a boom in private jet tours, such as those offered by Titan Travel . Its next 22-night trip for 2024—Captivating Cultures from Rome to Rajasthan—includes stops in Istanbul, Montenegro, Jordan and Uzbekistan all by private plane, with 28 guided excursions included, and priced from £29,995 per person.

Then there is the demand for ever-increasing luxury offerings on commercial airlines, which has seen Etihad launch its The Residence—a three-bedroom apartment in the sky, and Singapore Airlines’ Suites class—offering a further step up from First class, not to mention uber-luxury offerings in the world of hotels, such as Atlantis the Royal Dubai’s The Royal Mansion Suite, which costs a whopping $100,000 per night.

What’s more, as reported by Skift , luxury travel is only set to boom further this year: “With Virtuoso saying more than half of its network, of more than 20,000 luxury travel advisers, estimate their clients will spend more on trips this year. The continued strength is remarkable, given how bullish sales were in 2023. Kensington Tours , a luxury travel agency, said luxury trip values rose 9% last year.”

Wheely's New First service.

When it comes to actually getting to the airport, however, there’s nothing quite like a concierge and chauffeur service to elevate the journey. British luxury brand, Wheely ’s membership model, is one of the latest services and comes with an intuitive app (with real live people on hand to help), and services such as specialised airport drops and pick-ups, on-demand and pre-scheduled chauffeuring and a concierge service. Headquartered in London, and operating in other major cities, such as Paris, and having just launched in Dubai, Wheely exists, says the company, “to help clients reclaim their time by connecting them to the places and people that matter.”

Laura Allen, Wheely’s director of Customer Experience, comments: “Unlike other luxury ride-hailing companies, Wheely operates in a different market—it is the first on-demand luxury chauffeur service of its kind. It’s more akin to having a private chauffeur. Our aim is that as the company grows, we want to see more international affluent people switching from employing personal drivers to using Wheely. Users will find a combination of a highly-trained chauffeur with an exceptional in-car experience and a concierge service, with everything instantly available or pre-booked via the Wheely app.”

The concierge service is one way the brand has stretched its car service to cater for a luxury lifestyle, whether at home or when you reach your destination, so users can have help with London-based day-to-day errands, or use the Chauffeur for a Day service (perfect for out-of-town day trips), as well as order its luxurious New First Class Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 car service.

Wheely's wheels offers a slick service.

“Wheely chauffeurs go beyond simply transporting passengers from A to B, they deliver an experience,” says Laura. “They can take on highly personal tasks for their guests—whether that’s transporting them to and from the office, picking up their relatives from the airport, safely taking their children to school, or running errands on their behalf. Wheely’s Perfect Airport Pickup, on the other hand, is an elevated airport car service where passengers don't have to worry about delays or terminal changes, as Wheely monitors the passenger’s flight, using automatic flight tracking technology.”

“With the new First Class product, members are able to arrive at their destination ready and re-energised after the journey. Fuelled by the Mercedes S-Class W223, members can enjoy additional legroom, a long wheelbase, a sunroof, reclining seats, and privacy blinds. Unlike Wheely’s other tiers, New First Class offers unique amenities like FIJI water, refreshing towels, and even an in-car Acqua Di Parma scent.”

The airport service means travel is seamless.

Above all, much thought, says Laura, has gone into making sure every aspect of the Wheely model offers a flexible and elevated experience. “The Chaffeur for the Day service, for instance, is available both on demand and for any pre-scheduled time, bookable through the app,” she says. “Clients can stay in constant contact with their chauffeur via the app, from monitoring their chauffeur’s arrival in real-time, tracking their chauffeur running an errand, to adding or changing destinations as they wish. These small hidden details enable Wheely clients who are frequent travellers to save time when travelling.”

Drivers are also trained at an in-house Chauffeur Academy, designed by former hoteliers (to ensure a five-star service) and found at the Grade II listed Monastery Barn in Syon Park, where they are trained in driving skills, advanced navigation, first aid and etiquette.

The company has recently launched in Dubai, a city that, last year, recorded its highest ever annual tourist numbers , at 17.15 million overnight visitors arriving in 2023. The company will offer the same Wheely service there as in other cities, with the addition of offering the latest BMW 5-series vehicles alongside the existing fleet of Mercedes-Benz.

It’s an astute move by Wheely, given that Dubai is a city that never stands still with a forward-looking focus on its dynamic developments. Future mega projects in the city include Dubai Reefs , the biggest ocean restoration project in the world that promises to employ 30,000 people and is set to open in 2028. Then there is the Island by Wasl , a 28-acre, man-made island off the coast of Dubai, which aims to be the closest thing to Las Vegas in the Middle East, and which is due to start construction soon. Also opening this year in Dubai is the Six Senses The Palm, Dubai which with 61 hotel rooms and 162 branded residences, is putting the focus on authenticity, service and seclusion—the same principles that Wheely says it puts value on.

Commenting on the announcement and the brand’s foray into the UAE market, chief executive officer of Six Senses, Neil Jacobs, said: “Six Senses The Palm, Dubai marks a new milestone for the brand as it enters this remarkable destination. From the bottom of the ocean to the signature rooftop bar, our concept celebrates the natural beauty of the Gulf, the solidarity and hospitality between host and visitors, and the journey that Dubai has been on, with its unique Emirati traditions and bubbling optimism for the future.”

Laura Allen, at Wheely, agrees: “The future of travel feels exciting. There is so much happening right now. The very best travel experiences give you a pause button and our service is a part of that process. In short, we help clients reclaim their time as we believe that, essentially, time is the most precious asset in life.”

Apple execs talk future of the iPhone in ride-along Apple Park tour

William Gallagher's Avatar

Greg Joswiak (left) and Brian Tong at Apple Park

who owns apple travel

YouTuber Brian Tong has previously covered topics such as the Apple Vision Pro , and also specifically AirPods Pro for the headset, but now all iOS topics are up for grabs in a 40-minute "State of the iPhone"video.

Described as a "ride along with Joz and friends at Apple Park ," the video has Tong being driven around Apple's campus. He shares the ride with a series of Apple executives, starting with Kainann Drance, Vice President of iPhone Marketing, and ending with Greg "Joz" Joswiak, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing.

The interviews were split between marketing executives and people working in hardware and software at Apple. Alongside Drance and Joswiak, they also included:

  • Anand Shimpi, Hardware Technologies
  • Alok Desphande, Camera Software Engineering
  • Delia Huff, Photo and Camera Product Marketing

Shimpi had a lot to say about Apple's work in AI. "You look at... the camera, [and AI already helps] from understanding the scene to configuring the camera to ultimately improving the final image capture."

"[As] Tim has mentioned, we have some exciting stuff coming up," continued Shimpi, "but I can say from a hardware and a software standpoint, I think we're extremely well positioned."

Each Apple person gets interviewed for several minutes, and then fortunately dropped off back where they started. At no point, of course, does any executive reveal future plans, but Joswiak does try to convey what Apple is always aiming at.

"The iPhone [has] changed all of our daily lives, you wouldn't leave home without it, right?" he said. "So we look at that as such a responsibility, we talk about the camera and talk about your daily lives, [but] one of the big areas that is an area that an investment for us is keeping our users safe."

Bald man with beard, glasses, and blue shirt gesturing with his hand, standing outdoors near glass building and greenery.

He talked about there having been difficulties getting Emergency SOS via Satellite working, and then Roadside Assistance. "We keep looking for what are the opportunities to positively impact people's life," he said, "we've done that since the first iPhone [and] we keep doing that."

"Because of our hardware/software/services integration that we have here, we have this ability [that if] we can imagine it, we can create it," said Joswiak, "and that always gets me excited."

Tong ends the video asking Joswiak to name his three favorite iPhones. Instantly, he says the iPhone 15 , iPhone 15 Pro , and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the current models, — before asking if he can make it four, so he could include the iPhone 15 Plus.

I Never Travel Without Flight Attendant-loved Apple AirTags — and They're on Sale in Amazon's Spring Event

Apple AirTags always sell out when discounted, so I’m stocking up this week.

Travel + Leisure / Daisy Rodriguez

Amazon’s inaugural Big Spring Sale is officially underway, and from the looks of it, it's already epic in terms of the can’t-miss deals on top-rated luggage, comfortable spring clothes, and travel accessories. As exciting as stocking up on these travel essentials can be, the sale should be used to buy something to safeguard those personal belongings. Not sure where to start? Well, you’re in luck, because my go-to Bluetooth tracking device of choice, the Apple AirTag , is on sale in a single pack for $24 and a pack of four for $82 (making them just over $20 apiece) this week.

As hectic traveling can be, the last thing that you want is the added stress of worrying about lost luggage. And trust me, nothing ruins a trip like a lost or misplaced suitcase. I’ve been there far too many times than I’d like to admit — but that was until I found a safety net with Apple AirTags , which offer an unparalleled sense of security to countless travelers like myself by keeping an extra eye on my valuables (and letting me know where they are if we've parted ways).

Apple AirTag

Boasting 145,000-plus five-star ratings from Amazon shoppers and high praise from Travel + Leisure editors alike, Apple AirTags stand out as truly fantastic additions to your travel gear repertoire. In fact, the widely adored Bluetooth tracker is sporting a discounted $24 price tag during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale. At this price, you should absolutely stock up on a few to affix to your carry-on bag, keychain, wallet, and all of your other important belongings.

Apple AirTags are engineered with precision tracking capabilities that seamlessly connect with the Find My app on Apple devices for constant, real-time tracking of your belongings. And if you misplace one of your things, the device emits a sound via its built-in speaker to help you locate your missing item if it’s within a certain radius. Oh, and for an even more seamless user experience, you can name each one and assign it to specific items for extra ease of use. I personally have one hooked onto my keychain and am constantly using it to locate my keys. It’s easy to use, compact, and most importantly: effective.

Apple AirTag 4-Pack

With how great this travel accessory is, it’s no surprise that travelers have declared them their  “ best purchase ever ,” with some dubbing them a “ total must-have for travel ” in terms of safeguarding your belongings. In their review, one shopper added that these devices are “the ultimate lost and found solution” and that “if you're tired of misplacing your belongings or want an extra layer of security for your valuables," the Apple AirTag "ensures you never lose track of what's important to you.”

The travel gadget also comes in handy when you check a suitcase, as it can tell you exactly where it is if it gets left behind. Vouching for the Apple AirTag, another reviewer shared , "Of course, my suitcase did not make my flight. However, I knew exactly where it was (sitting on the tarmac at the airport of origin while I had landed at my destination). It was phenomenal!" They went on to point out that they were "able to get a head start on going to the airport to retrieve my bag before the airline notified me because I could see that it was back home."

Travelers aren’t the only ones to swear by Apple AirTags. One flight attendant said that they are “super easy to use and definitely worth the money." The frequent flier continued, "I put one in my flight attendant bag whenever I have to check it, one on my dog’s collar, and the other on my keychain."

I don’t know where I’d be without these magical little Bluetooth tracking devices. They eliminate much of the worry when it comes to travel and everyday life. So if I were you, I’d snag a few Apple AirTags while they’re on rare sale before they invariably sell out. If you’re still in the market for other on-sale travel gadgets, keep reading for more top-rated items that Amazon shoppers can also grab for a discounted price this week.

More Travel Accessory Deals From the Amazon Big Spring Sale:

Ucomx nano 3-in-1 wireless charger, jbl go 2 waterproof bluetooth speaker, veken packing cube set, fyy travel cable organizer.

At the time of publishing, the price started at $24.
