3 Minutes on TripHobo: World’s Best… or Not Really? [Review]

Here we cover the travel planning app TripHobo, including how it works and what we like and dislike about the app.

If you have decided  where to backpack next , it's great! Now, it’s time to plan and sort things out. How are you hoping to do it?

You could either ask everyone you know for recommendations. Or, you could do your own research online. What else? Transport? Accommodation? Things to do once you get there? Well, it seems like you have to do multiple searches to find what you want. TripHobo is a service that claims to help you with it.

If you're looking for an alternative that's not TripHobo, why not give Pilot a try? We're also a travel planner that has tons of research material to help you find things to do and where to stay around the world.

In the meantime, back to TripHobo. In this review, we bring to you TripHobo – a one-stop for your travel planning. This travel planner website brings you everything you might need to go on a trip under one domain. Stick around and read the full TripHobo review to see if it’s the travel planner for you.

What is TripHobo?

In 2012, the three friends Praveen Kumar, Saket Newaskar, and Karthik Ramachandra founded TripHobo, a travel planner website with the aim of making travel easier for everyone around the world. At present, there is also a mobile app for you to use the service on the go.

TripHobo has teamed up with hotels, travel agents, and other travel-related websites to bring their customers an easy experience in both planning and traveling. This is also how TripHobo makes money – they get a small commission from their partners if you choose to book a tour or plan through TripHobo.

TripHobo mobile trip planner preview

How Does TripHobo Work?

Well, it’s quite simple – insert the details required of you, then you’ll be given an itinerary for your planned trip.

When you visit the website, you have two options to choose from; plan your next vacation or find a tour and activities. If neither is what you’re feeling like, you could just browse through some of their most popular destinations or travel itineraries.

If you choose to search for tours and activities, you can search by city, attraction, or activity. They will also give you a list of trending tour locations and best-selling tours if you’re not sure what to do. You can also choose a tour by category; adventure, luxury, private, etc. and you can choose from over 20 such categories! You’ll also be able to see the languages each tour is available for each destination. These languages also depend on the destination you choose to visit.

If you choose to plan your next vacation instead, you can do so by inserting a few details about what you want. You just have to tell TripHobo where you want to visit, the duration of your stay, your needs based on transport, accommodation, and activities, and whether you’re traveling by yourself or in groups, etc. Even if you don’t know when you’d be going, TripHobo will just assume dates for you and give you an itinerary.

Once you’re done planning, you can pay the services directly via TripHobo – you won’t be charged for using TripHobo itself, though.

What do We like About TripHobo?

  • Customization

You can always add a custom plan on TripHobo, and it’s simple to do so too. Once TripHobo gives you your itinerary, you can switch to edit mode and edit the trip to your liking. For instance, if you want to change the time of your stay, you can simply click on the three-dots on the slot of what you want to adjust and either extend the time, reduce it, or move it. If you want to delete a day or a single activity, you can again click on the three-dots and do it. If you want to change details after booking your trip, you can simply inform TripHobo. Depending on the availability, they will make changes accordingly.

  • Multiple functions

TripHobo offers its customers a wide variety of services. One such service is the function to add multiple destinations within one trip – one could even call TripHobo a multicity vacation planner. This might make things easier for you if you plan on visiting more than one place. You can plan one large trip instead of planning multiple ones! Another good thing about TripHobo is the flight booking service it offers via Skyscanner. Instead of looking for flights on your own, you can just click on the suggestions TripHobo gives you. TripHobo also allows sharing your planned itinerary with others and the function for others to edit it. If you’re planning to travel in a group, this might be the thing for you.

  • Access to information

Apart from the recommended tours in multiple languages, TripHobo works in other ways to give you more information. If you’re a newbie traveler, or you simply don’t know what to do, you can just browse through TripHobo’s blog and get to know about destinations, things to see, and things to do!

trip hobo

What Don't We Like About TripHobo?

  • Missing activities

Sometimes, TripHobo doesn’t know what to do about the activities it shows you in the itinerary. If TripHobo doesn’t have information on a specific destination, they might end up showing you random places to visit, as the marketplace. Sometimes, it won’t even be able to show you nearby places and activities of a destination either.

  • Flight booking

The flight booking service offered by TripHobo may not know how flight routes work all the time. Although the flight booking service is a good thing, its efficiency depends on the destination you choose. If they’re not sure about transit flights, they sometimes can’t suggest an appropriate flight route. So, for some, this could be a minus point about TripHobo.

  • Cancellation policy

TripHobo claims that their cancellation policy depends on their partners. This could turn out to be a real headache if you plan to cancel or stop your booking. Although canceling the trip is pretty easy, a refund or reimbursement depends on the traveling agents, hotels, and accommodation you have chosen through TripHobo. So, the cancellation policy depends on the personal policies of TripHobo’s partners. So, you might have to do your own background check on the services you choose before you confirm your trip. It would make canceling easier if, in case, you might have to.

Should You Use TripHobo?

If you don’t mind finding your flight, looking for activities on your own, doing your research on services’ cancellation policies, you might be okay with TripHobo. As an intermediary service, it does make booking logistics easier. But, many other  travel planner apps  offer more features compared to it. So, it’s best to review the features before settling with a reliable app.

Everything has worked great until now

Everything has worked great until now, my only issue has been that for some weird reason, whenever I try to search for flight options, I get no results, so then I try to add a custom flight, and in the arrival time, as soon as I click the dial to change the time, the save option disappears for no reason. So I can only change the departure time, but not the arrival.

I find this a very useful platform where I can put my thoughts out and it categorises them based on date, place, budget, activities etc. Just two suggestions - 1. If you could make it less cluttered, it would feel even better to use, and 2. Include Viator and Booking.com in your planning module, that would add to the richness of the booking experience.

Yangon by Circular Train - very good tour for a taste of the local way of life

We booked the 'Yangon by Circular Train: Life Along the Loop' tour. It was a fantastic experience for a taste of how the locals live and commute.... things you wouldn't normally see doing touristy things within city limits. The train ride was the best! I found it highly entertaining and eye-opening observing the locals go about their daily business! Our guide Peter was very knowledgeable and provided good insights to Burmese culture, foods and way of life. Also, i must say i love the name 'TripHobo!' Very original. Ingenious! :)

Dubai Trip with Triphobo

Triphobo organised my Dubai trip end to end and I must say, the whole journey was extremely smooth and well taken care. Kunal from Triphobo specifically took care of the needs of my old aged parents and also small kids as the trip with them was but tricky. The trip customization, expert advices with rich experience from Kunal helped a lot and was the differentiator. I recommend Triphobo to every one and I am surely going to plan my next trips with Triphobo only.

Nice Booking experience

I booked the Culebra Day Trip by Catamaran from Fajardo through TripHobo, it was the cheapest price I could found online. But because of weather condition, we had to cancel part of the trip. I contacted TripHobo through WhatsApp, the customer service was good. Also the COO of TripHolo emailed me asking for feedback. :-) Now I get the partial refunding back for the cancelled tour. Thank you!

Peggy's Cove Day Trip from Halifax

Fantastic bus trip to Peggy’s Cove. The bus driver provided commentary and historical information during the entire round trip. There was plenty of time to view the lighthouse, walk on the rocks, and grab a lobster roll at Tom’s Lobster Shack. This is one trip you should not miss! Booking with TripHobo was easy and we were able to pick up our tickets at the Halifax Harbor a day in advance of the trip.

It was great except one...

The layout of the site and accessibility of the site instruments are great... In triphobo we can edit it very easily..but there's only a drawback to me although it is common but I think the suggestion of hotels is OK in the site but when we download the itinerary the suggestion should be excluded 'cause if anyone other than the person who planned it sees it,they might misunderstand...But overall a fantastic 4.5/5

Might be a great site

Might be a great site, but who knows? I got sick of constantly needing to x out of numerous pop-ups that covered the screen. Not just one or two, but over ten before I gave up and closed the site. Site owners - please consider using fewer pop-ups and pop-overs so users can actually read about the place they're interested in BEFORE advertising places to stay. Also, several of the pop-ups weren't in the slightest bit relevant to the place I wanted information on! I hate giving negative reviews, but this site was beyond frustrating!

My family and I booked "Blue Hole and Secret Falls Day Trip plus Shopping from Runaway Bay" for our trip in Jamaica. Everything ran smoothly - from pick up time - communication - the entire tour itself and drop off. I've already recommended TripHobo to a handful of friends and will continue to do so. Definitely a one of a kind experience, my family and I will always remember.

Yangon Circular Train

Took the circular train while we were in Yangon. Our guide Mr. Peter was very noligable about firstly the city, history, and when we boarded the train, explained how it came about.Made 2 stops along the way, viewing a large fruit and vegetable market, and to change trains. The sites of Yangon is definitely something to see, that I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Yangon. Also tripHobo took care of everything, as far as guide, who I recommend.I forgot one thing. After the train ride, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in a local restaurant. Thank you Trip Hobo

Excellent experience with Triphobo

Used Triphobo after hearing it from a friend to plan my honeymoon. I loved the customization options available in the planner. The best feature I felt was the ability to add any place from Google in your plan if it was not available with them, really useful. We also ended up booking a Private tour of Ubud which was again quite enjoyable. Would surely recommend them.

The hospitality, communications, prompt services and the comfort level maintained by the Tour Coordinator Manager since from the beginning till the end of tour as well as throughout the tour was excellent. Our thanks to all the staff members of the Triphobo and special thanks to our Tour Coordinator Ms Akshaya Kulkarni Gupte Madam who has managed every thing very well at every stage of our tour and made this tour of we senior citizens very pleasant, memorable and made this tour a grand success. During my trip to India we took the Bollywood studio tour in Mumbai,it was quite an unique experience as we always wanted to learn more of Bollywood. In the later part of our India trip we also did the Taj Mahal tour with them. Booking process was smooth, tours were cheaper than most and the support was also good. Overall a good experience.

TripHobo was really helpful on our recent trip to Europe (France, Switzerland and Italy). It was an easy and pretty intuitive way to plan and make an itinerary for the entire trip through various countries. We used it to purchase tickets as well which was very easy and offered various ticket options with different prices from several vendors.

The long 3 weeks trip around South Island of NZ did not plan interestingly. It created eventually a calendar with some offers around the places i had to preselect. Not very interesting. I have read then multiple trips of such length online which were much more helpful in planning with a much less time wasted. Maybe it is helping in urban travel planning, i'm not sure.

Date of experience : November 17, 2019

Reply from TripHobo

Hi Sergei, the 'bindle' step where you had to preselect is an optional step. If you leave it blank, the trip planner generates an itinerary suggestion based on the your 'length of stay' and combination of popular places. Infact, a lot of steps such as transportation, accommodation etc. are optional, and you can come to it later once your itinerary is generated. Hope this helps, in case you need further assistance with the planning, kindly write to us at [email protected].

Planning a trip to Eastern Europe and Croatia for Summer 2020. TripHobo is a useful tool for trip planning. I like the ability to easily refine the plan, add details, and make changes to determine plan that works best. I like the distance info provided as well as estimated time to travel between destinations by type of transport. It would be nice to have the ability to refine selection of accommodations by price, number of beds and bathrooms and type (hotel vs. other).

Multnomah Falls/ Columbia River George Waterfalls are a MUST see!

This was a wonderful tour. An easy and comfortable drive out from Portland with an extremely knowledgeable tour guide - Evan, who was very passionate about his home town and surrounding areas. The morning tour was so good that most of the bus stayed on for the city tour in the afternoon also an excellent tour with the same exceptional guide. Thank you for my first Portland adventure.

Tremendous! Stupendous! Fun! Educational!

I spent years at a content expert for a floor-full of programmers making tools for scientists interrogating the human genome. I knew nothing about programing; they knew precious little about biogenetics. We struggled but ultimately useful tools were built. Now retired, a friend told me about this program as I was struggling to plan our first - and very major bucket-list - trip abroad for my family since Covid. I was overwhelmed by the choices and decisions. I'm still overwhelmed with gratitude for this fantastic tool and am having a wonderful time planning, revising, reconsidering - IT IS SO easy!!.

Travel Hack: How to plan a trip on TripHobo

Trip planning involves a lot of struggle with excel sheets, multiple websites that offer the best listings for accommodation and a lot of back-n-forth with various travel guides for actual end-to-end itinerary planning. When planning a trip for a longer duration or multiple countries especially, this gets super tricky and intricate.

To make most of any trips, most of us are super anxious to make sure that we don’t miss out on anything while planning the trip. TripHobo is one trip planning tool that can be used to plan any travel. One of the best things about this website is that it allows the users to integrate the entire trip plan, including transport, accommodation, and activities in one place.

The website has some really good information on what to see and do in any destination along with a day-wise planner that allows the users to jot down the tiniest detail of their plan. You can later access it through the app and carry it wherever you go!

Top reasons to use TripHobo

Stepwise itinerary building.

Right from the dates of travel to transport between destinations if one is planning a multi-city trip, TripHobo’s planner suggests the best mode of transit, the typical duration, and cost for each transit. Users can search and add their pre-booked flight to the planner and the tool fetches the details as the starting point of the itinerary!

Day-wise Sightseeing integrated into the planner

While most itinerary planners limit the planning to transit and accommodation, TripHobo goes a mile ahead with its offering. Having rich travel content for more than 140K destinations across the world, you can practically plan your travel to the tiniest detail. You can add points of interest, activities, and restaurants to your daily plan. You can select how much time you want to typically spend at each (the planner will suggest you the best duration as well).

Along with this, another amazing feature of this product this that it suggests the best transit method to get from one place to another.

TripHobo Tripplanner

Hotel and activity bookings integrated

One can browse and book the accommodation, for hotels as well as homestays on TripHobo along with price comparison. The website offers a comprehensive listing from top hotel booking websites. Users can then book or simply integrate it into the plan along with a few activities and experiences offered in the destination.

TripHobo

Handy App and Offline itineraries

On the actual trip, travelers can access the plan on the phone with TripHobo’s app and also save the itinerary for offline use. This comes handy at all times!

Budget calculator

While building the trip, users can continuously keep track on their spendings. While the expenses for transport and accommodation are automatically added to the budget calculator, there are optional fields where users can add other expenses like food and shopping. After finishing the plan, a detailed budget for the trip is available.

Group Planning

An interesting feature if you are traveling with your friends and family, multiple users can share and contribute to the travel plan.

Spread the word!

I’m quite surprised I’ve actually never heard of TripHobo. I’ll keep it in mind when comparing prices in the future.

Very Well written article

Wow, TripHobo really looks like a neat way to organise an entire trip with accommodation, sightseeing and transport all consolidated in one! I’ll remember to check it out when planning my next trip, thanks! 🙂

They’ve really thought of everything haven’t they? I”d love some help to take a bit of the headache out of planning.

This sounds like it could be a great planning tool for travel! I’m assuming there’s a fee to use it though?

I have never tried an app for creating an itinerary and I usually took me 3 days to plan for a 10-day backpacking trip. Looks like this app is really useful and thinking of trying it on my next trip. Thanks for this.
