The Kingston DataTraveler Max 1TB USB flash drive has it all (or almost). It is blazingly fast, small and it doesn’t carry such a big premium compared to a traditional portable SSD. Its lack of a Type-A connector may limit its appeal for those looking for backward compatibility but others will just look past that.

Two minute review

Who needs an external solid state drive when you’ve got something like the Kingston DataTraveler Max 1TB USB flash drive. This 1TB removable storage device may be small in size but it promises to deliver some spectacular performance thanks to a combination of high speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C connector and fast TLC flash memory from Micron TLC.

Kingston’s speed champion is fast enough to compete with many far bigger portable SSDs that usually require an additional cable to connect and while it is not the cheapest of the lot, its portability combined with its simplicity of use should propel it high on the list of those who want a capable, fast external storage option.

There are other, slower or far bigger options available like the 1TB HP x796w that comes with the more universally accepted USB Type-A connector but it is likely to be far, far slower and is only about 15% cheaper. It doesn’t come with any software bundle though which is something we’d like more vendors to consider as it offers an option to customers to get protection for their data out of the box.

All in all though, the Kingston DataTraveler Max is a stellar example of a vendor striking the right balance in a very competitive market that many thought had gone stale.

Pricing and availability

The Kingston DataTraveler Max comes in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB models. The latter is by far the best value for money of the three and can be had for just under $166 (currently on preorder at US retailer B&H ).

USB-C Port Retracted

At 83mm x 22mm x 10mm with a weight of only 12.5g, this is a bigger-than-expected USB flash drive but is still far more compact than any portable SSD on the market and that includes the now-defunct Ravpower Mini . Its body is made almost entirely of plastic and has a Type-C USB connector that’s retractable and can be operated with one hand.

There’s a keyring loop, a tiny blue status light and the ribbed back of the drive makes it easier to slide the drive cover - no chance of messing up or losing a cap here. Its appeal as a USB stick is evident as it represents the perfect balance between extreme portability (a 1TB microSD in a Type-C card reader), price and speed.

Kingston claims that the DataTraveler Max 1TB will reach read/write sustained speeds of 1GBps and 0.9GBps respectively. The drive uses Silicon Motion’s SM2320 UFD controller and Micron’s 96-layer 3D TLD storage. Silicon Motion’s chip is a native controller which helps improve performance, heat dissipation, bill of material and design. We carried our tests using our standard Intel -based test device, the Kubb Bleujour mini PC .

Here’s how the Kingston DataTraveler Max performed in our suite of benchmark tests:

CrystalDiskMark: 1066MBps (read); 1000MBps (write)

Atto: 1018MBps (read, 256mb);  950MBps (write, 256mb)

AS SSD: 943Bps (seq read); 895MBps (seq write)

AJA: 912MBps (read); 896Mbps (write)

The drive performed admirably, scoring a superb 1066MBps and 1000MBps on CrystalDiskMark and moving a 10GB file with an average transfer rate speed of 558MBps. The other tests carried out (AJA, ATTO, AS SSD) all underline the true nature of the DataTraveler Max as a 1GBps-class storage device.

The drive didn’t get too warm during testing despite the lack of a metal enclosure (which would double as a heatsink) although your mileage may vary depending. One of the great things about having such a storage solution is that it is natively compatible with most recent Android smartphones with USB Type-C. On the other hand, it means using a compulsory converter (Type-A to Type-C) on older desktop computers or laptops.

A follow-up with an extra USB Type-A connector might be a welcome addition but that might add to the weight, complexity and price. A smaller body is another distinct possibility given how small the component board is inside.

A 2TB model is unlikely to be on the way soon because the market for it is likely to be tiny unless use cases requiring such storage capacities become more prevalent. A 2TB USB Flash drive will likely be a very pricy halo product, not unlike the original 1TB DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0 which launched nearly a decade ago.

Should I buy the Kingston DataTraveler Max 1TB USB flash drive?

You’re yearning for something ultra compact and fast

It is pocketable, doesn’t require an extra cable and is far lighter than any external SSD we’ve come across. Although there are some use cases where an external storage device with a USB cable would be preferable (e.g. when the connector is at the back of a desktop PC), we believe that this solution is superior.

You’re looking for peace of mind

While it doesn’t come with any recovery or backup services (like Seagate ), the DataTraveler is backed by a five-year warranty courtesy of Kingston, one of the largest memory and USB flash drive manufacturers.

Don’t buy if if:

You only care about the cheapest 1TB USB flash drive

There are cheaper 1TB USB sticks but they tend to be slower, far slower; Sandisk’s 1TB Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C flash drive sells for around $122 although you can get it for just over $100 at Amazon at the time of writing.

You need a rugged or secure solution

The DataTraveler Max is not a secure or a rugged solution. It doesn’t come with a fingerprint reader, IP67 rating or any security software bundles (e.g. file encryption , cloud backup etc).

This series is based on USB 3.2 Gen2 standard, offering a whopping data transfer speed of up to 1000/900 MB/s. Kingston is offering these drives with USB Type-A and Type-C interfaces. We are spinning the 512GB USB Type-C drive this time.

DataTraveler MAX is a USB Flash Drive based on a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface which implies that there is an SSD-based solution under the shell offering speeds of up to 1000MB/s in reading and up to 900MB/s in writes. This series is available in 256GB/512GB/1TB capacities:

The dimension of USB Type-C-based drives is 82.17x22x9.02mm, where 82.17mm is the length, 22mm is the width, and 9.02mm is the drive’s thickness. Dimension for USB Type-A is different. Looking at the top of the drive, we can see a KINGSTON branding in the center.

There is an integrated LED indicator with a very dim light below the branding. This drive has a ridged casing to protect the Type-C connector when not in use. This has provided Kingston with a way to hide the connector when not in use since there is a sliding cap. This is a 512GB capacity drive.

Now we can see the smart design. USB Type-C connector is visible here, which is still concealed as it is in a slide into the drive’s main housing. The part number of this drive is DTMAX/512GB, and it is made in Taiwan. This drive takes 5V for operations.

The opposite end of this drive has a slider handle, which does not serve the function of sliding the USB Type-C connector out of the housing and back in. It also serves the function of a keyring loop.

Looking at the connector end of this drive, this is what it will look like. It protects the connector when not in use and during travel.

In the above picture, the connector is slid out of the main housing, and the drive is ready to be connected to the PC. Since these drives are rated for speed of up to 1000MB/s in reading and 900MB/s in writing using USB 3.2 Gen2 protocol, these drives are certainly based on SSD.

We are unsure about the Flash type and controller as we did not open the drive. We hoped to have some insight from Kingston on this, but we are still waiting to hear from them. Please note that only a USB Type-C connector will provide these rated speeds.

By default, this drive is using exFAT. This drive uses using UASP protocol. This drive features S.M.A.R.T, TRIM, GPL, and NCQ functions. We will come back to operational temperature later.

This drive passes the sequential rated read and write speeds in the CrystalDiskBenchmark test. Speeds in Random 4K Q1T1 are fine. Users can use these drives for 4k/8k video storage easily.

Next, we ran the ATTO Disk Benchmark to test the drive’s performance. The drive maintained the rated read and write speeds across the line.

This drive has a score of 1063, which is fine for this category drive. The average bandwidth comes to 185.48MB/s for gaming load with an average time of 172µs.

PCMARK10 Storage Benchmarks

We have added Data Drive Benchmark from PCMARK10 software. The Data Drive benchmark is designed to test drives for storing files rather than applications. You can also use this test with NAS drives, USB sticks, memory cards, and other external storage devices.

This drive scores 710 with an average bandwidth of 109.66MB/s and an average access time of 228µs. There is no other drive in comparison at the moment. But you can know what to expect when putting this drive to store and carry your data.

Real World Testing

Now that we have completed testing using synthetic benchmarks, it is time to prepare our sample for a real-world use scenario for further evaluation. We prepared a 46GB size folder containing multiple files and folders, including compressed files. DiskBench was then used to observe the real-world data transfer speeds. Here are the results:

We copied the 46GB folder on the same drive. The average transfer rate comes to 92.358MB/s, and it took 8 minutes to complete this operation.

Thermal Results

We used a custom CrystalDiskMark run for 18 minutes on sequential read and write speeds to stress the SSD for this test. We are showing absolute temperature and ambient temperature values at the testing time.

74°C is a high temperature under full load and crossed the upper-temperature limit of Kingston Drive.

I recently put the Kingston DataTraveler MAX 512GB USB drive to the test, and it’s part of the impressive DT MAX series, leveraging the USB 3.2 Gen2 protocol. This sleek drive offers 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities in USB Type-C and Type-A interfaces.

With claimed speeds of up to 1000MB/s sequential reads and 900MB/s sequential writes, I was eager to experience the performance firsthand. The compact design caught my attention, especially the unique sliding USB Type-C connector with a handy keyring loop. The Type-C model weighs a mere 12g, making it incredibly portable.

The drive effortlessly met the rated sequential read and write speeds during my real-world usage. However, it’s worth noting that during heavy operations, the drive did reach a temperature of 74°C, resulting in some throttling.

Performance Benchmarks

Benchmarks such as ATTO and CrystalDiskMark help provide a quick look at the performance of the direct-attached storage device. The results translate to the instantaneous performance numbers that consumers can expect for specific workloads, but do not account for changes in behavior when the unit is subject to long-term conditioning and/or thermal throttling. Yet another use of these synthetic benchmarks is the ability to gather information regarding support for specific storage device features that affect performance.

Synthetic Benchmark - ATTO

Kingston claims read and write speeds of 1000 MBps and 900 MBps respectively, and these are backed up by the ATTO benchmarks provided below - in fact, the numbers are actually higher than the claimed ones. ATTO benchmarking is restricted to a single configuration in terms of queue depth, and is only representative of a small sub-set of real-world workloads. It does allow the visualization of change in transfer rates as the I/O size changes, with optimal performance being reached around 512 KB for a queue depth of 4. The performance is slightly behind the bridge solutions in terms of raw numbers.

Synthetic Benchmark - CrystalDiskMark

CrystalDiskMark. for example, uses four different access traces for reads and writes over a configurable region size. Two of the traces are sequential accesses, while two are 4K random accesses. Internally, CrystalDiskMark uses the Microsoft DiskSpd storage testing tool. The 'Seq128K Q32T1' sequential traces use 128K block size with a queue depth of 32 from a single thread, while the '4K Q32T16' one does random 4K accesses with the same queue configuration, but from multiple threads. The 'Seq1M' traces use a 1MiB block size. The plain 'Rnd4K' one uses only a single queue and single thread . Comparing the '4K Q32T16' and '4K Q1T1' numbers can quickly tell us whether the storage device supports NCQ (native command queuing) / UASP (USB-attached SCSI protocol). If the numbers for the two access traces are in the same ballpark, NCQ / UASP is not supported. This assumes that the host port / drivers on the PC support UASP.

The sequential workloads' numbers are essentially the same for both the UFD and bridge solutions. However, the benefits of a real SSD controller are evident in the high queue-depth random access performance, where the DT Max's performance is cut in half compared to the ASMedia bridge solution.

Our testing methodology for storage bridges / direct-attached storage units takes into consideration the usual use-case for such devices. The most common usage scenario is transfer of large amounts of photos and videos to and from the unit. Other usage scenarios include the use of the unit as a download or install location for games and importing files directly from it into a multimedia editing program such as Adobe Photoshop. Some users may even opt to boot an OS off an external storage device.

The AnandTech DAS Suite tackles the first use-case. The evaluation involves processing five different workloads:

  • AV: Multimedia content with audio and video files totalling 24.03 GB over 1263 files in 109 sub-folders
  • Home: Photos and document files totalling 18.86 GB over 7627 files in 382 sub-folders
  • BR: Blu-ray folder structure totalling 23.09 GB over 111 files in 10 sub-folders
  • ISOs: OS installation files (ISOs) totalling 28.61 GB over 4 files in one folder
  • Disk-to-Disk: Addition of 223.32 GB spread over 171 files in 29 sub-folders to the above four workloads (total of 317.91 GB over 9176 files in 535 sub-folders)

Except for the 'Disk-to-Disk' workload, each data set is first placed in a 29GB RAM drive, and a robocopy command is issue to transfer it to the external storage unit (formatted in exFAT for flash-based units, and NTFS for HDD-based units).

Upon completion of the transfer (write test), the contents from the unit are read back into the RAM drive (read test) after a 10 second idling interval. This process is repeated three times for each workload. Read and write speeds, as well as the time taken to complete each pass are recorded. Whenever possible, the temperature of the external storage device is recorded during the idling intervals. Bandwidth for each data set is computed as the average of all three passes.

The 'Disk-to-Disk' workload involves a similar process, but with one iteration only. The data is copied to the external unit from the CPU-attached NVMe drive, and then copied back to the internal drive. It does include more amount of continuous data transfer in a single direction, as data that doesn't fit in the RAM drive is also part of the workload set.

Audio and Video Read

The workloads are processed in sequence, and the initial ones - particularly the read workloads - show great performance from the DT Max. However, with more and more traffic, as the workloads shift to the 'disk-to-disk' sections, the SLC cache runs out. Performance numbers are equivalent to what one might expect from bus-powered portable hard drives.

As long as the workload is contained within the SLC cache (more on the sizing further down in this section), it can be seen that there is no significant gulf in the numbers between the different units. For all practical purposes, casual users will not notice the difference between them in the course of normal usage. However, power users may want to dig deeper to understand the limits of each device. To address this concern, we also instrumented our evaluation scheme for determining performance consistency.

Performance Consistency

Aspects influencing the performance consistency include SLC caching and thermal throttling / firmware caps on access rates to avoid overheating. This is important for power users, as the last thing that they want to see when copying over 100s of GB of data is the transfer rate going down to USB 2.0 speeds.

In addition to tracking the instantaneous read and write speeds of the DAS when processing the AnandTech DAS Suite, the temperature of the drive was also recorded. In earlier reviews, we used to track the temperature all through. However, we have observed that SMART read-outs for the temperature in NVMe SSDs using USB 3.2 Gen 2 bridge chips end up negatively affecting the actual transfer rates. To avoid this problem, we have restricted ourselves to recording the temperature only during the idling intervals. The graphs below present the recorded data.

The first three sets of writes and reads correspond to the AV suite. A small gap (for the transfer of the video suite from the internal SSD to the RAM drive) is followed by three sets for the Home suite. Another small RAM-drive transfer gap is followed by three sets for the Blu-ray folder. This is followed up with the large-sized ISO files set. Finally, we have the single disk-to-disk transfer set. It appears that either enough SLC cache is available or it is recovered fast enough to cover almost 11 transfer sets. Once the cache is out, the performance goes down from close to 1GBps to around 80 MBps.

PCMark 10 Storage Bench - Real-World Access Traces

There are a number of storage benchmarks that can subject a device to artificial access traces by varying the mix of reads and writes, the access block sizes, and the queue depth / number of outstanding data requests. We saw results from two popular ones - ATTO, and CrystalDiskMark - in a previous section. More serious benchmarks, however, actually replicate access traces from real-world workloads to determine the suitability of a particular device for a particular workload. Real-world access traces may be used for simulating the behavior of computing activities that are limited by storage performance. Examples include booting an operating system or loading a particular game from the disk.

PCMark 10's storage bench (introduced in v2.1.2153) includes four storage benchmarks that use relevant real-world traces from popular applications and common tasks to fully test the performance of the latest modern drives:

  • The Full System Drive Benchmark uses a wide-ranging set of real-world traces from popular applications and common tasks to fully test the performance of the fastest modern drives. It involves a total of 204 GB of write traffic.
  • The Quick System Drive Benchmark is a shorter test with a smaller set of less demanding real-world traces. It subjects the device to 23 GB of writes.
  • The Data Drive Benchmark is designed to test drives that are used for storing files rather than applications. These typically include NAS drives, USB sticks, memory cards, and other external storage devices. The device is subjected to 15 GB of writes.
  • The Drive Performance Consistency Test is a long-running and extremely demanding test with a heavy, continuous load for expert users. In-depth reporting shows how the performance of the drive varies under different conditions. This writes more than 23 TB of data to the drive.

Despite the data drive benchmark appearing most suitable for testing direct-attached storage, we opt to run the full system drive benchmark as part of our evaluation flow. Many of us use portable flash drives as boot drives and storage for Steam games. These types of use-cases are addressed only in the full system drive benchmark.

The Full System Drive Benchmark comprises of 23 different traces. For the purpose of presenting results, we classify them under five different categories:

  • Boot: Replay of storage access trace recorded while booting Windows 10
  • Creative: Replay of storage access traces recorded during the start up and usage of Adobe applications such as Acrobat, After Effects, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and Photoshop.
  • Office: Replay of storage access traces recorded during the usage of Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Gaming: Replay of storage access traces recorded during the start up of games such as Battlefield V, Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and Overwatch.
  • File Transfers: Replay of storage access traces (Write-Only, Read-Write, and Read-Only) recorded during the transfer of data such as ISOs and photographs.

PCMark 10 also generates an overall score, bandwidth, and average latency number for quick comparison of different drives. The sub-sections in the rest of the page reference the access traces specified in the PCMark 10 Technical Guide.

Performance numbers are roughly in line with what can be expected from a 1TB PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe drive behind a USB 3.2 Gen 2 bridge. Since our comparison drives both use PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs, there is a significant gulf in performance.

Creative Workloads

The read-write bandwidth recorded for each drive in the sacr , saft , sill , spre , slig , sps , aft , exc , ill , ind , psh , and psl access traces are presented below.

Using Dual SIM with an eSIM

An eSIM is a digital SIM that allows you to use a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use a physical nano-SIM. Learn how to set up and use Dual SIM. 1

How can you use Dual SIM?

Use one number for business and another number for personal calls.

Add a local data plan when you travel outside of the country or region.

Have separate voice and data plans.

Both your phone numbers can make and receive voice and FaceTime calls and send and receive messages using iMessage, SMS, and MMS. 2 Your iPhone can use one cellular data network at a time.

If you want to use 5G with Dual SIM on iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, make sure that you have iOS 14.5 or later .

What you need

An iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later with iOS 12.1 or later

A wireless carrier that supports eSIM

To use two different carriers, your iPhone must be unlocked . Otherwise, both plans must be from the same carrier. If a CDMA carrier provides your first SIM, your second SIM won't support CDMA. Contact your carrier for more information.

If you have an enterprise or corporate cellular service plan, check with your company administrator to see if they support this feature.

Erase your eSIM

All iPhone models that support eSIM can have multiple eSIMs and use Dual SIM with two active SIMs at the same time.

You can use Dual SIM by using a physical SIM and an eSIM. iPhone 13 models and later also support two active eSIMs. iPhone models without a physical SIM tray support two active eSIMs.

Label your plans

After your second plan is activated, label your plans. For example, you can label one plan Business and the other plan Personal.

You'll use these labels when you choose which phone number to use for making or receiving calls and messages, to designate a number for cellular data, and to assign a number to your contacts so you know which number you will use.

If you change your mind later, you can change your labels by going to Settings, tapping either Cellular or Mobile Data, and then tapping the number whose label you want to change. Then tap Cellular Plan Label and select a new label or enter a custom label.

Set your default number

Choose a number to use when you call or send a message to someone who isn't in your Contacts app. Choose which cellular plans you want to use for iMessage and FaceTime. You can choose either or both numbers.

On this screen, choose a number to be your default, or you can choose which number is to be used only for cellular data. Your other number will be your default. If you want your iPhone to use cellular data from both plans, depending on coverage and availability, turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching.

Use two phone numbers for calls, messages, and data

Now that your iPhone is set up with two phone numbers, here's how to use them.

Let your iPhone remember which number to use

When you call one of your contacts, you don't need to choose which number to use every time. By default, your iPhone uses the same number that you used the last time you called that contact. If you haven't called that contact, your iPhone uses your default number. You can also specify which number to use for your calls with a contact. Follow these steps:

Tap the contact.

Tap Preferred Cellular Plan.

Tap the number you want to use with that contact.

Make and receive calls

You can make and receive phone calls with either phone number.

When you're on a call, if the carrier for your other phone number supports Wi-Fi calling, you can answer incoming calls on your other number. When you're on a call using a line that isn't your designated line for cellular data, you need to turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching to receive calls from your other line. If you ignore the call and you have voicemail set up with your carrier, you’ll get a missed-call notification and the call will go to voicemail. Check with your carrier for Wi-Fi calling availability and find out whether additional fees or data usage applies from your data provider.

If you're on a call and your other line shows No Service, either your carrier doesn't support Wi-Fi calling or you don't have Wi-Fi calling turned on. 3 It could also mean Allow Cellular Data Switching is not turned on. When you're on a call, an incoming call on your other phone number will go to voicemail if you set up voicemail with your carrier. 4 However, you won't get a missed-call notification from your secondary number. Call Waiting works for incoming calls on the same phone number. To avoid missing an important call, you can turn on call forwarding and forward all calls from one number to the other. Check with your carrier for availability and to find out whether additional fees apply.

Switch phone numbers for a call

You can switch phone numbers before you make a call. If you're calling someone in your Favorites list, follow these steps:

You can use iMessage or SMS/MMS to send messages with either phone number. 5 You can choose a number to use before or after you start a conversation. Here's how.

The status bar shows that the device is connected to Wi-Fi and Carrier 2 is using Wi-Fi Calling.

With Allow Cellular Data Switching turned on, the status bar shows that Carrier 1 is using 5G, and Carrier 2 is using the cellular data of Carrier 1 and has Wi-Fi calling enabled.

One number at a time can use cellular data. To change which number uses cellular data, follow these steps:

Go to Settings.

Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.

Tap Cellular Data.

Tap the number you want to use cellular data.

If you turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching, then while you're on a voice call on your voice-only number, that number automatically switches to use voice and data. 6 This lets you use both voice and data while on the call.

If you turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching and you're active on a voice number that isn't your designated cellular-data number, then cellular data won't work while you're on the call.

To turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching, follow these steps:

Tap Mobile Data.

If you consume a lot of data, you'll enjoy the Magenta Max 55+ plan, given that it's high-speed, premium, and unlimited 5G and 4G LTE. This means that your speeds will not be throttled, even when there is network congestion. Other unlimited services also typically allow you to use as much data as you like, but after a certain amount, the speed becomes restricted, and you can feel the pinch when it's a busy network. This occurs in the cases of the Magenta 55+ and Go5G 55 packages, which limit premium data to 100GB. 

Furthermore, you get 40GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data, which can come in handy if you're frequenting places without Wi-Fi connectivity. In comparison, the Magenta 55+ gives you 5GB of mobile hotspot, and the Go5G 55 includes 15GB. If you need more than 40GB, alternatives you may want to consider include the Go5G Next 55 and Go5G Plus 55, both of which offer 50GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data.

Keep in mind, though, that while the additional data (both regular and hotspot) might seem nice, you'll need to use it consistently for this to be a good enough reason to switch. Beyond these data-related perks, customers who are subscribed to the Magenta Max 55+ get all the standard benefits, like 5G access, unlimited talk and text, and Wi-Fi calling, which are offered with other T-Mobile plans.

Complimentary Subscription To Streaming Services

It's likely that you're already using a few streaming services, and you might even be paying for them individually. The good news is that if you switch to T-Mobile's Magenta Max 55+ plan, you get access to Apple TV+ and Netflix for free. The Netflix subscription is for the Standard version with ads, so this might not be useful if you like watching ad-free content. It's also worth knowing that if you already have a Netflix account, you can link this offer to it so you don't lose your current watch history and streaming preferences.

In terms of video quality, this package allows you to access up to 4K UHD videos, which is great for watching your favorite movies and shows in the best resolution. Beyond the call, text, and data benefits, travelers can also take advantage of the T-Mobile Travel program, which offers discounts of up to 40% on hotel bookings and rental cars. If you like road trips, a one-year AAA membership comes with the Magenta Max 55+ plan at no extra cost. All these travel-related perks come as standard across 55 and 55+ T-Mobile packages, including the Go5G Next 55, Go5G Plus 55, Go5G 55, and the Magenta 55. So, if you're opting for the Magenta Max to supplement your globe-trotting, it might be worth double-checking that other services aren't just as worthwhile. 

Better Control Over Calls And Voicemails

Scam Shield Premium is another benefit available on  Magenta Max , and other Magenta plans. This app can simplify your life by sending unwanted calls from fundraising agencies, telemarketers, and political associations to your voicemail so you don't have to deal with them directly. Calls you receive from unknown numbers go through a reverse number search, and you can choose to block these numbers at any time.

The Premium version of Scam Shield also sends you a transcription of voicemails via SMS, helping you quickly access the content of the message and discard it if you don't find it useful. This can be a significant benefit if you're dealing with too many solicitation calls and messages. This perk is also available with plans like the Go5G Next 55 and Go5G Plus 55 but is not available as part of the Go5G 55 or Magenta 55+ plan.

What Are The Various Contracts And Costs?

The T-Mobile Magenta Max 55+ plan is in the middle of the price range compared to some of T-Mobile's other senior-focused contracts. The service costs $150 per month for three phone lines, but if you opt for AutoPay, you get a $5 discount per line, bringing the total cost down to $135. There are also other ways to save money on your T-Mobile bill , including bringing your own smartphone when you switch to the plan.

In comparison, the Go5G Next 55 package -- one of the most expensive offerings from T-Mobile -- amounts to $180 per month. This has three lines (with the AutoPay discount). The Go5G Plus 55 plan costs $150 per month for three lines with AutoPay, while the Go5G 55 comes up to $120 per month with the same. The Magenta 55+ is the least expensive, costing $105 per month for three lines with the AutoPay discount. None of the plans have annual service contracts, which means you can move to a different plan or carrier if you're not satisfied with T-Mobile's service at any time.

Come Monday, millions of Americans from Texas to Maine will stop what they're doing to step outside and spend a few minutes gazing skyward .

Few celestial events have the power to capture our collective attention the way this upcoming total solar eclipse has managed to do. And for those making time to witness it, two questions are bound to be on their mind : Will totality reach my area and if so, how long will the resulting darkness last?

Most people across the country are bound to experience the eclipse in some form, but only 13 states fall directly on the path of totality, where the moon will appear large enough to shield all but the sun's outermost layer, the corona.

As you make your eclipse-viewing plans, these interactive maps should help you chart the time and duration for when totality will occur in cities along the path.

The 115-mile-wide path of totality will pass from southwest to northeast over portions of Mexico the United States and Canada.

Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which will occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT,  according to NASA .

As the moon's shadow travels northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin at 1:27 p.m. CDT in Eagle Pass, Texas. From there, the path will cut diagonally across the country before ending around 3:35 p.m. EDT in Lee, Maine.

Remember: If you plan to witness the eclipse, proper eyewear is a must until the eclipse reaches totality, then it can be viewed with the naked eye.

Here's a map of some of the larger cities in each of the 13 states on the path to show how the duration of totality will vary:
