Survivor experience: alone.

CASTAWAYS ALONE

DESERTED ISLAND VACATION

We are an adventure company specialized in survival vacations on deserted islands around the world. Docastaway offers you a unique survival experience unknown until now; the chance to feel like a real life castaway, ALONE.

One of our castaways surviving on our desert island

COUPLES SURVIVAL RETREAT

Castaway adventure.

Our trips don’t only appeal to the solo male real life castaways, they also attract solo females,  couples and group of friends who want to spend time in this retreat.

We drop the client completely alone on an uninhabited island and he/ she will be expected to find shelter (on the couples survival camp) and forage for their own food and drink like a modern day Robinson but with the guarantee of having all the basic needs taken care of. Our team will be standing by in the nearest civilized spot, connected with the survivor for 24/7 using with walkie talkies or satellite phones (depending on how remote is the archipelago). They will also have a speedboat at their disposal for their evacuation if necessary at any time.

The castaway can also have the alternative of choosing to be accompanied by a professional guide who will teach some survival tips. However surviving on a deserted island in the tropics is not difficult specially when you are going to stay for just 10 or 15 days. Therefore we always recommend our clients to try without any prior lesson, and in case they can’t handle it, we will go back to the island and bring them new tools or supplies.

You can check our deserted islands here

EXTREME VACATIONS

Survival adventure trips.

Most of our deserted islands are located in remote archipelagos in countries like Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Polynesia, Australia, Mexico and the Caribbean. We do not have destinations in Europe or America because unfortunately there are not secluded archipelagos over there.

Our guided survival trips is for people who are ready to face the most  authentic experience and likes extreme vacations. This getaway is the most similar to a real castaway adventure but with modern safety and the guarantee of having all the basic needs taken care of. The survivors will be alone from the first day but if they wish they will be accompanied by professional guides.

They will stay overnight in a shelters that can consist of huts or even tents with modern camping equipment. Clients can have a quasi survival experience, foraging for their own food and drink under the supervision of their guides and supported by additional provisions.

However, our company is not only a survival vacation. Our main goal is not to teach our solo clients how to survive on a desert island but to give them the opportunity to enjoy an adventure vacation on some of the planet’s most remote archipelagos, in the world’s last paradises, just you, and alone.

"The most valuable learning experiences on my trip were during WFR training, meal planning, cooking, navigating trails, and adapting to changes in the itinerary. I learned how to remain calm and effectively treat patients, create meals and grocery lists, delegate tasks while cooking, read topographic maps and identify trails, and lastly how to revise a plan and implement it successfully when the original plan is faulty or unexpectedly changed." 9 Survival Camps to Get You Wilderness Ready

man camping in wilderness

Survival skills can save your life if something goes wrong in the wilderness. But dire situations are not the only ones in which you’ll need them. Learning certain outdoor survival skills can make you a more competent, confident camper and it can open doors into new experiences that are much safer with your new knowledge.

What’s the best way to learn new survival skills? You could pore over survival books or watch online videos, but those hands-off methods are no match for real world experience.

That’s where survival camps come in. These camps allow participants to learn from experts and practice survival, outdoor, and bushcraft skills in the field, without venturing out on their own. Ready to become the next Bear Grylls ? These camps can get you started.

9 Survival Camps That Will Prepare You for the Unexpected

hiker with map in wilderness

Whether you want to learn to survive in the desert, thrive in winter environments, or hone your bushcraft skills, these survival camps across the country have something for everyone.

1. Adventure Out  — Marin County and Santa Cruz Mountains, CA

Adventure Out offers beginner outdoor survival courses to folks new to the concept. Their one-day course teaches students of all ages basic skills like fire building and shelter building. If you’re looking for something more advanced, you’ll find that, too. Learn specific skills like backcountry navigation, attend arrow-making and bow-making workshops, or enroll in a course on how to construct traditional kayak. For the ultra-adventurous, there are multi-day outdoor survival camps in both desert and snowy winter environments.

All course registration can be found on the Adventure Out website . The basic survival one-day course is $135 per person. All others range in price depending on which course you select.

2. Lifesong Wilderness Adventures  — CA, OR, TX

Lifesong Adventures offers expert-taught survival courses near Mt. Shasta, California, the southern Oregon coast, and near Austin, Texas (March only). The company focuses on basic and advanced wilderness survival courses for adults and teens. Learn nature awareness, fire-making, and animal tracking skills at the weekend survival schools, or step it up with a 28-day survival immersion camp. A variety of camp lengths are available, including the ‘Circle of Survival’ series, designed to build your skills over time.

Prices for each program vary depending on length and intensity and early registration discounts may be available. Participants for most courses can register online , with the exception of 14- and 28-day immersion courses and teen camp, which require signed application forms.

3. Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS) — Boulder, UT

Develop and test your survival skills in the vast, harsh Southern Utah desert at Boulder Outdoor Survival School. Students are generally physically fit and aged in their mid-20s to late 50s, though ages 18 and up are accepted.

BOSS offers intensive low-technology courses ranging from one to three weeks. Modern gadgets are prohibited; think ponchos and blankets, not tents and sleeping bags. You’ll spend days on end out in the desert learning skills like how to find and purify water, survive in a desert, and construct a shelter. The course starts as a group, then participants break off to practice on a solo adventure.

The seven-day field course costs $1,725 per person, while the 18-day is $4,795 per person. Other interesting survival camp courses, like the multi-day Hunter Gatherer or the 72-hour Survival Rescue course range in price; registration is available on the BOSS website or by phone at (800) 335-7404.

4. Mountain Scout Survival School  — Upstate NY and NYC Area

Survival expert Shane Hobel runs year-round outdoor survival camps across upstate New York and urban emergency preparedness courses in the New York City area. Mountain Scout offers a wide range of courses, from Wilderness 1, where students learn the basics of wilderness survival, to Hunt Tracking, Native Navigation, Tree Identification and more.

The seven-day intensive course covers the ‘seven primary arrows’: shelter, water, fire, food, tracking, awareness, and movement. Most courses are designed for adults 18 and over, though where suitable, children may be permitted to attend with a parent or guardian. Corporate and team-building camps are also available.

The price for the popular one-day Wilderness 1 course is $125 per person. All other courses offered vary in price. Courses can be purchased by visiting the online calendar and making a selection.

5. Wilderness Awareness School — Duvall, WAWilderness Awareness School operates near the Cascade Mountain Range outside of Seattle. They offer survival courses for both kids (aged 4 to 18) and adults. Adult options include morning classes on wildlife tracking and weekend-long wilderness survival classes as well as more intensive programs for aspiring naturalists and outdoor leaders. Youth opportunities include day camps, overnights, and even expeditions for teens. Children can learn fishing, knife and knot skills, plant identification, and more.

Each course varies in price (the five-day overnight Wilderness Survival course for kids is $810), and all registration can be found on the Wilderness Awareness School’s website .

6. Appalachian Bushcraft School  — Eastern PA

first aid bandaging arm

Appalachian Bushcraft School teaches age-old bushcraft techniques in the wild environment of its namesake mountains. You’ll find survival camp classes like Basic Bushcraft, a three-day, two-night adult course ($350 per person) teaching the basics of using survival tools and cooking outdoors. More experienced folks can opt for four-day courses like Advanced Survival ($450 per person) where participants practice wilderness navigation.

Basic courses have no prerequisites and are suitable for students 12 and older, though children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Advanced courses are for those 16 and older, and participants must first complete the basic courses.

Register for courses online at the Coalcracker Bushcraft website .

7. The Peak  — Butte, MT

The Peak offers outdoor skills and wilderness survival courses specifically tailored to military veterans. Course options include Backcountry Travel, classes teaching technical rope skills and high angle rescue, and wilderness medicine programs. Though The Peak emphasizes training active and veteran military personnel, they offer many courses and programs to the general public. The Wilderness & Survival Training course is a great place to start.

For price information and to register for a course, call The Peak at (406) 494-7999 or email [email protected].

picking wild berries

Thomas Coyne Survival School has a unique variety of survival camps and courses. Whether you’re a world traveler hoping to bolster your personal safety in the front country or a camper looking for wilderness survival skills, you’ll find a course here. Start with the Weekend Survival Course ($300 per person) or the Survival Skills Certification ($350 per person), then move up to more tailored classes that include experiences like apothecary, bushcraft, and primitive trapping.

Extreme survival courses are available for 18+, including the three-day Weekend Field Course, the only all-weather, year-round field course in the country. These courses recreate a true survival emergency, which means no gear—only what you can find from the land.

Register online by selecting your preferred dates on specific course pages, or call or text (805) 441-7750 with questions.

9. School of Survival  — Wasilla, AK

Head to the wild lands of Alaska for a true test of your survival skills. Courses like the one-day Survival 101 covers the basics of fire, water, and shelter. After completion, move up to other one-day courses like hunting and trapping, foraging , wilderness medicine, and navigation. In-depth skill-specific courses are also up for grabs: spend a whole day practicing your fire-building techniques, crafting backcountry tools, butchering, or tanning hides.

Each day course costs $150 per person, and you can combine up to seven consecutive courses for a weeklong experience. School of Survival can also customize a wilderness survival simulation for groups and individuals of any level, lasting from one to seven days. Sign up for a course through the website’s contact form or call (907) 521-2872.

Happiness Promise

There are hundreds of thousands of guides and tour operators around the world. Figuring out who to trust is stressful and hard.

That’s why we started 10Adventures Tours, we’re here to make it easy to find a great guide or tour operator. We handpick the best local guides and tour operators for 10Adventures, working to ensure you have great guides and a great trip.

We know it sucks to show up in a different country and find out the tents are junk, the guide incompetent or the route different from what we thought we were getting.

We want to give our users peace of mind that you’ll have a great trip and offer a guarantee that we will work with you to make it right.

How does this work? Well, if you feel that something about your trip didn’t’ meet your expectations, let us know. We will then work to gather the details and figure out where things went wrong. If something indeed wasn’t as described, or went wrong with your trip, and the problem was within the control of either oursleves, the guide or the tour company, we will then work out a refund with you that’s proportional to the scale of the problem.

Obviously the best way to make a great trip is to tell your local guide or tour operator and give them the chance to fix the solution while you are on your trip. Most things can be solved by telling your guide when the issue develops. If that doesn’t solve it, then email us right away. Please don’t wait to voice your concerns until the trip is over, as it’s much harder to solve issues after the fact.

We work hard to make sure you have a great trip. If something isn’t right, please email  [email protected]  and we will get to work right away.

Itinerary for Amazon Survival Training Tour

Transfer from iquitos to the jungle lodge.

This morning you can arrange to have your transfer pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Iquitos.

You’ll take a speedboat up the Amazon and into the Tahuayo tributary, which is about a four-hour trip. You’ll arrive at the wilderness lodge in time to take an evening excursion.

Choice of Excursions and Jungle Survival

While you’re spending time at the lodge, there are many excursions for you to choose from. The wildlife viewing ones come highly recommended!

Your guides will take you hiking through the surrounding flood plain or “varzea” forest. You’ll start learning how to identify native plants for their medicinal uses, as well as how to find sources of food and fresh water.

Choice of Excursions and Survival Lessons

Today brings another chance to take a tailored excursion. Choose between ropes courses in the canopy, cruising the river to find pink dolphins, or fishing for piranha.

Afterwards, it’s back into the jungle to learn how to make your own snares and fishing equipment.

Forest Hike and Camping

Today, a boat will take you and your two guides to the terra firme forest, where you’ll begin your hike into the trees. You’ll learn how to identify the best place to camp and how to build a shelter from the resources around you.

You’ll be spending these two days learning all about how to use natural materials to build important survival tools. You’ll also learn how to locate fresh sources of water and the best wood for starting a fire.

Building Tools and Locating Water

Your lessons continue today as you refine your ability to find fresh water (hint: try the immature yarina fruit), catch and prepare food, and build fires. You’ll even try your hand at preparing your own raft with materials from the forest.

Enjoy another night camping in the wilderness after you’ve mastered your newfound skills. Did you know you can use barbasco sap to stun fish? You do now!

Return to Lodge

This morning you’ll have some time to do a little more exploring and practice your new jungle skills. After breaking down camp you’ll return to the lodge by boat.

Spend the evening at your leisure, perhaps fitting in another excursion before dinnertime.

Kids Nature and Survival Camp

  • Activity Overview

Child and Instructor building fire

Set your kids imagination and adventurous spirits free as they learn about the natural environment and the important skills of survival: shelter, water, fire, and food. No matter what your child’s background is, from never having camped before, to the most experienced nature enthusiast, they’ll have a BLAST at this camp. Set among the beautiful redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains, just 1 mile from downtown Boulder Creek, our 4-Day Nature & Wilderness Skills Camp is a great way to keep your kids busy this summer while making sure they learn important skills. Activities range from basic nature/environmental education such as plant identification and animal tracking/study, to survival skills. Kids will gain confidence and comfort in being outdoors, while having a great time, exploring, and staying active.

*4-Day Camp: $495

This program may be booked year-round for either kids or teens on a private/custom basis. We also offer 1 public kids camp date (ages 9 – 12) each summer. For summer 2024 that date will be: JUNE 24-27 (9:30am-3pm) – Click below to sign up!

The camp will run for 5.5 hours each day; 9:30am-3pm. Our trained instructors – expert survivalists and naturalists – are excited to share these ancient skills with your child.

Learning these timeless traditions, such as shelter building and starting a campfire, helps to build self-esteem and awareness from knowing YOU CAN SURVIVE! This class is 100% hands-on and very active. Everything your kids learn, they will do – no indoor classrooms or long lectures. This is a great opportunity to pull your kids away from the television, computer, and electronic devices, and get them excited about the wilderness. Each day will center around one of the 4 main necessities of survival: SHELTER (day 1), WATER (day 2), FIRE (day 3), and FOOD (day 4). There will be multiple activities each of those days around the main topic.

In short: this camp is about getting back to the earth, learning how our ancestors lived in harmony with our planet, and experiencing nature to its fullest. There is something here for every child – come with an open mind and be ready to have fun!

Dates Offered:

To book a child between the ages of 9 and 12 for the that date, please click the REGISTER NOW link below. -We also book custom/private camp dates for both kids and teens camps year-round. To discuss a private camp booking, please click the INQUIRE NOW button below.

SurviVacation: Survival Vacation

survival camp tour

Vacation Like Never Before…  Take a SurviVacation at Willow Haven Outdoor in Anderson, Indiana!

Are you interested in taking some real survival training but not so interested  in stripping down to a leather thong and heading into the woods with just a knife for 3 days?  My name is Creek Stewart and I own Willow Haven Outdoor.  I started my survival training clinics over 12 years ago on my parent’s land in Southern Indiana.  I now own a 10,000 sq. ft. Survival Lodge and 21 acres in Central Indiana dedicated to Survival Training Clinics.  Over the past 15 years, I’ve learned a thing or two about how my students learn…

People learn MORE when they are COMFORTABLE .  Whether it’s school work or survival training, you are less likely to soak up important information if you are cold, tired, hungry and thirsty.

Regardless of what some might say – YOU CAN LEARN CRITICAL SURVIVAL SKILLS WITHOUT SUFFERING.  Is it time for you and/or your family to take a SurviVacation ?  Get ready for a weekend get-a-way unlike you’ve ever experienced.

So what is a SurviVacation ?  Well, in short, it is a 3-Day Survival Vacation.  It’s a Weekend Get-A-Way at the Willow Haven Survival Training Facility PACKED with survival instruction – and some survival fun too.  Many attendees prefer to camp but we also have private bunk rooms available on a 1st come 1st serve basis and a community bunk room.  No ‘Going In The Woods’ at Willow Haven – our lodge has indoor restrooms and showers.  Our Lodge Great Room has one of the largest Bedford Limestone Fireplaces in the Midwest.

survival camp tour

I have designed the SurviVacation Weekend to be a 3-Day Survival Experience.  I will cover the 5 main aspects of survival: Shelter, Fire, Water, Food and Signaling.  We will discuss survival priorities and work our way through specific skills related to securing these 5 survival needs.  I will cover several primitive and modern techniques related to each skill.  This will be a hands-on learning clinic – not a classroom lecture.  The ONLY way to learn survival skills is to practice them.  I invest 100’s of hours into the preparation of my courses to provide you with an amazing survival learning experience.

Wilderness Weekend Immersion

Join us for a 24-hour wilderness skills weekend just for adults! After a full day of developing and honing your wilderness skills, spend time sharing stories around the campfire.

THE NEW MILLENNIUM BACHELOR PARTY! “Frank and his team of survivalist are a different breed. They combine knowledge building with team building in an action packed survival course that pushes you to your limits. We recently hired Frank to handle my brother’s bachelor party and I have to say it was an experience. If you are thinking of doing the boring casino and golf bachelor party, I would say think again. Think about having a survivor bachelor party with Frank and do something unique. The experience will allow you build your knowledge on basic survival, bust your buddies around a fire you made with 2 sticks, and provide stories for a lifetime.” Damien Cabral “Frank and Greg provided us with a lifetime of memories packed into a 20 hour trip that tested our skills, taught us more about who we are as people, and armed us with useful knowledge about surviving in the wilderness. What they provide can’t be found in a survival manual; it is an experience that really opens your eyes to what is important in life. They helped us realize the difference between our “wants” and what we “need” to survive. It was a thought provoking experience that brought our group of friends closer together. I would strongly recommend any of Frank’s classes for individuals of all ages and experience levels.” Dustin Cabral (previously known as the Bachelor)

Tailormade Departures

Speak to our travel designers - All of our trips can be designed to suit you and your dates of travel.

DAY 1 - ARRIVING AT PANAMA CITY: DENSE JUNGLE WITH PERFECT WHITE SAND BEACHED.

  •  We meet in Panama City (the exact location will be shared with you in the Expedition Guide you will receive after booking).
  • That late afternoon you meet your instructor and receive the safety expedition briefing before dinner with the team. We have an early night in shared accommodation.
  • You can request the solo room supplement on our booking form if you want a private room. We will confirm availability after your request.

DAY 2-6 - 5-DAY TRANING PHASE: OUR WORLD-CLASS BUCHCRAFT INSTRUCTORS ARE HERE FOR YOU!

  •  After breakfast, we head to the marina and take a 90-minute  speedboat to your new island home , explore the expansive beach, choose the location for the camp, and string the expedition hammocks.
  • Typically after a couple of days, everyone on the island reconnects with their circadian rhythm and rises a little after sunrise. So we use the  mornings to learn the 4 key elements  of survival:  Shelter, Fire, Water, and Food.  We explore different methods for each element.
  • Afternoons are for exploration , trekking through the jungle and rocky headlands, mastering fishing skills, or simply enjoying paradise.
  • Evenings are for gathering  and connecting with your new tribe around the campfire, eating a communal meal we all helped catch and cook, telling stories, or marveling at the open sky.

DAY 7-9 - 3-DAY SURVIVAL PHASE: YOUR INSTRUCTORS ARE GONE! – 72 HOURS

  • After completing your training phase, you and your new tribe will move to a different spot on the island to put into practice the skills learned.
  • You will experience the wilderness with little more than a machete, knife, essential fishing equipment, medikit, and satellite phone. But don’t worry; we have an invisible safety net in place!
  • For many, this is one of the toughest psychological and physical challenges they have ever endured: the reality of survival sinks in, and new highs and lows are encountered as hunger, thirst, and discomfort are offset by the euphoria of success starting a fire or finding food. And simultaneously, this is an experience that leaves the most incredible sense of achievement and deep gratitude.
  • If you would like this phase in complete solitude, please request this on your booking form. We will reach out to you after checking availability.

DAY 10 - CELEBRATING THE ACHIEVEMENTS IN GRAND STYLE: RESCURE & RETURN

  • After completing your survival phase, speedboats are sent in the morning to bring you to Mar Y Oro’s beach to eat and rest.
  • That night we head out for a survival party where you’ll eat your weight in pizza at the excellent Casa Tortuga restaurant.
  • We will all head back to Panama City by speedboats arriving around noon.

DAY 11 - HEAD HOME

Sporting a fine suntan and a tremendous sense of achievement, you will depart home with enough tales to woo at any dinner party.
