Vantage Travel Debuts Ocean Odyssey
Vantage Travel Debuts New Luxury Expedition Small Ship, Ocean Odyssey
BOSTON, November 21, 2022 – Vantage Deluxe World Travel , a world-renowned deluxe cruising tour operator, is proud to debut the new five-star Ocean Odyssey premier small ship, built for global luxury expedition travel. The ship’s inaugural cruise departed Aqaba, Jordan on course around the Arabian Peninsula bound for Dubai, UAE, on November 20. Ocean Odyssey and its sister ship Ocean Explorer will navigate worldwide with 48 itineraries that will bring travelers to all seven continents.
“The maiden voyage of the Ocean Odyssey marks yet another way travelers can indulge in far-flung adventures as big as the globe with the award-winning, elevated experience of a small ship environment,” says Deirdre Dirkman, EVP Worldwide Operations & Marketing at Vantage Deluxe World Travel. “At Vantage, we provide the ultimate in small-ship luxury experiences and set the standard for women’s solo travel.”
In 2023, Ocean Odyssey will operate small ship discovery ocean cruises in Asia, the British Isles, the Mediterranean and Scandinavia, with plans to add Morocco, the Canary Islands and expedition cruising in Iceland in 2024.
Ocean Odyssey offers multiple stateroom and suite options comfortable for solo travelers, couples and families. With a guest capacity of just 134, the ship has 77 spacious, all outside-facing cabins including suites with walk-out balconies and 15 solo cabins — a cruise industry first. The ship also has 30 cabins that can accommodate up to three guests for family and group experiences. Vantage offers free single supplements as well as free roommate-matching services if guests would like to be paired while traveling.
Those onboard will experience true luxury with a breadth of amenities including fine dining options, three bars, various lounges and an intimate dining space for groups and special events. Travelers can relax in the ship’s spa, sauna and hot tubs or work out in the state-of-the-art fitness center. A well-stocked library, complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi, 20+ live TV channels and video-on-demand are also available to guests. The ship’s observation deck hosts a curated variety of programming including lectures, programs, musical performances and cultural events. The ship’s low passenger-to-crew ratio ensures guest satisfaction, and Vantage’s onboard Concierge caters to guests’ every need, both before and during the cruise.
Ocean Odyssey is outfitted with the latest satellite, sustainability and navigation capabilities, including SOLAS “Safe Return to Port” requirements and ULSTEIN X-BOW® technology, a significant enhancement for smooth sailing in polar seas.

Please note: If you're taking advantage of the pre-trip extension to Edinburgh, you will follow the pre-trip itinerary until Day 4, when you'll board the Ocean Odyssey and join your fellow base travelers for the rest of the cruisetour. All activities and inclusions will be covered; please see the pre-trip extension itinerary for details.
Land in Edinburgh
If you purchased your airfare from Vantage, upon arrival in Scotland a Vantage representative will meet you and arrange transfer to your centrally located hotel. Settle in and if you like, enjoy a brief orientation in the historic center near our hotel. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a briefing and Welcome Dinner featuring musical entertainment from a traditional bagpiper. You'll also learn the history of this instrument, as well as a bit about Scottish clans, and more!
Cultural Discovery:
- Welcome Dinner with musical entertainment from a bagpiper
Included meals:
Discover Edinburgh and come aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia
The unforgettable city of Edinburgh unfolds before you as we ride and walk on a half-day city tour. Highlights of the Old Town include Edinburgh Castle, set high above the city on Castle Rock, and St. Margaret’s Chapel. Built around 1130, it is the oldest surviving building in town. Fast-forward to 18th-century as you explore the New Town, with its elegant neoclassical and Georgian architecture. Both districts are together listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip set sail to visit their far-flung dominion, they did it on board the Royal Yacht Britannia . You'll come aboard to inspect this elegant vessel, which often hosted a retinue of more than 45 guests. It still features the furnishings and décor favored by the Queen when the ship was launched in 1953. The balance of your day is free. Your Vantage City Host will be happy to assist with tips, directions, and making reservations.
Included Feature:
- Half-day Edinburgh city tour including a visit of Royal Yacht Britannia
Wind through the Scottish Highlands to Invergordon
After breakfast, we'll transfer to our awaiting ship in Invergordon via the gorgeous Scottish Highlands. This land of high mountain valleys, rushing trout streams, sparkling lochs, and sheep-dotted pastures was once the stronghold of Gaelic-speaking Scottish clans. Following the Highland Clearances of the 18th and 19th centuries, small farmers were largely driven from the land, so today this remote region is one of the least-populated areas in Europe. Our route takes us through wildly scenic Cairngorms National Park, the largest in the U.K. We’ll stop for an included lunch in the town of Pitlochry, which blossomed as a tourist destination after Queen Victoria visited in 1842. Soon thereafter you’ll arrive in Invergordon and come aboard your ship. This evening, gather with your fellow travelers for a Captain’s Welcome Dinner.
- Panoramic drive through the Scottish Highlands
Scenic Sailing:
- Wave goodbye to Invergordon and take in the Scottish scenery from the unique vantage of the open waters as you travel toward your next destination
World War II heritage of the Orkneys
Named for the strong tides that rip past the Point of Ness, it’s no surprise that Stromness, where your ship will drop anchor, was once a vital whaling port. It was later used by the British for shipping in times of war in lieu of the English Channel. At the Stromness Museum, you’ll discover the Orkney Islands’ natural history. Then, learn about the Churchill Barriers, a series of four causeways linking the Orkney Islands that were built as naval defenses in WWII. Today, they serve as vital roads. World War II left a spiritual mark as well, and you and your fellow travelers will visit the ornate Catholic chapel built here by Italian POWs.
This afternoon, enjoy leisure time on board.
- Morning tour of Orkney Island with visit to the Churchill Barriers
- Onboard lecture
- As you sail toward Stromness, find yourself enchanted by rustic homes on tiered hills and Old World architecture
Isle of Lewis and the mystical Callanish Stones
Enchanting thatched-roof cottages await you today when you arrive at Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, first settled as a trade port by the Vikings. Your group will visit the prehistoric Callanish Stones — a hilltop, cross-shaped arrangement of standing stones with a circular ring and central monolith. Dating back some 5,000 years to Neolithic times, they are even older than Stonehenge and have been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Next, visit the nine thatched-roof cottages of Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Here, at the Carloway Mills, you’ll see a demonstration of the region’s most time-honored craft — tweed-weaving. Lunch is back on board, and you'll enjoy an afternoon at leisure, with another eye-opening lecture planned. Before dinner, be entertained by a troupe of Scottish dancers!
- Half-day Isle of Lewis tour
Cultural Discoveries:
- Tweed-weaving demonstration
- Evening Scottish dance performance
- Early this morning, admire the sights of quaint Scottish towns on the coast of the Isle of Lewis as you sail on toward Stornoway
The magical Isle of Skye, the “cloud island”
If Brigadoon really exists, you might just find it today as the Ocean Odyssey takes you for a scenic sail around the Inner Hebrides islands, the place believed to be where Scottish Gaelic literature and music originated, weather permitting. We’ll embark on a morning sightseeing tour of Skye, the Summer Isles or the Shiant Isles archipelagos, which will reveal medieval castles, villages, and vistas of the mist-enshrouded Cuillin Hills; crystal-clear lochs; and fairy pools fed by tiny cascades and streams. You’ll be grateful for the nimbleness of your small ship, as we hug the rugged coastline and discover waterfalls that plummet off high cliff-tops right into the sea and romantic moors that sweep to the rocky shore. Watch for shorebirds and local marine life, and keep your camera at the ready! Put your discoveries into perspective today with another lecture during sailing.
We'll have lunch on board and set out to explore. In a country of scenic superlatives, Scotland’s Isle of Skye will stand out in your memories as one of the most beautiful places on Earth. You’ll enjoy a scenic daylight coach tour around the islands, and the afternoon is yours to putter around Portree.
- Scenic tour of Skye
- Depart Portree later today. Weather permitting, you’re sure to enjoy sailing around Inner Hebrides islands, a diverse archipelago that is also home to seals and seabirds
Discover the Isle of Mull in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides
This morning you’ll anchor at Tobermory, an idyllic port whose waterfront is lined with multicolored houses, cozy pubs, crafts shops and inviting restaurants. Enjoy an onboard lecture before disembarking to explore at your leisure, perhaps visiting the An Tobar Arts Centre or the Mull Aquarium.
- Visit to Duart Castle
- The vibrant seafront homes and vast terrain of Tobermory will capture your imagination both as you arrive and depart this port
Belfast, Antrim, and the Giant’s Causeway
Locals will tell you that the Giant’s Causeway was formed when the giant Finn McCool tossed massive boulders in the water in order to battle another giant across the way in Scotland. Scientists will tell you that this amazing natural phenomenon (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) was created when basaltic lava from an ancient eruption solidified into thousands of hexagonal columns. Your eyes will tell you that you are witnessing something quite otherworldly. Also breathtaking is the power and beauty of the Antrim coast, which you’ll travel along, too. Afterward, enjoy a delightful lunch in a local restaurant before continuing on to Belfast, Northern Ireland's capital.
The city that launched the Titanic is often remembered today for the Troubles — but as you’ll discover on a panoramic tour, with those days well behind it, Belfast bubbles with activity, centered on a revitalized Victoria Square. Your tour ends at the Titanic Belfast museum, where you can mull over the stories behind this ill-fated ship.
Later this evening, we’ll return to the ship for an Irish music performance before dinner.
Included Features:
- Belfast city tour
- Visit Giant’s Causeway
- Irish music session
Scenic Sailing
- Sail out of Belfast on the same route the RMS Titanic originally took
Time traveling on the Isle of Man
The Isle of Man is a protectorate of Great Britain, and therefore not technically a legal part of the United Kingdom. As such, it has its own independent parliament which has governed since 979 AD. Rich in flora and fauna, the island is also a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, but your focus today will be the Isle of Man’s unique culture, called Manx. After breakfast this morning, you’ll hear a lecture on Manx culture to contextualize your discoveries today, which begin in the port of Douglas.
Here in the island’s capital, we’ll transfer by coach to Cregneash village, one of the last strongholds for Manx language and customs. After, we head to Castletown, the ancient capital of the Isle of Man and home of the preserved medieval Castle Rushen, which dates back to 1250.
We’ll head back to the Ocean Odyssey for lunch, enjoying a scenic ride with photo stop at Tynwald Hill. After lunch, the balance of your afternoon is free for relaxing, or discovering more of the Isle of Man on your own.
After dinner tonight, enjoy an onboard performance featuring local entertainers.
- Isle of Man sightseeing tour
Cultural Discoveries:
- Lecture on Manx culture
- Evening onboard entertainment by local performers
- Admire the idyllic charm of Douglas when you cruise into the harbor this morning
Step into medieval Wales at Holyhead and Caernarfon Castle
This morning you’ll arrive in Holyhead and enjoy a short drive to majestic Caernarfon Castle, built between 1283 and 1330 by King Edward I. Today, massive Caernarfon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it will take your breath away. Here you can walk along its interconnected walls, punctuated by impressive towers that loom above a central green studded with (now abandoned) villages. Caernarfon dominates the shoreline and you can imagine its importance in controlling coastal supply routes and providing access to the agricultural resources of neighboring lands. En route to a traditional pub lunch, your regional expert/local guide will tell you more about the castle’s fascinating history. Then, visit the National Slate Museum, nestled into a mountainside, to witness a demonstration of the vanishing Victorian-era trade of slate splitting. Later this evening, enjoy dinner, then unwind with a musical performance from a local Welsh singer.
- Full-day excursion to Caernarfon Castle
- Slate splitting demonstration at the National Slate Museum
- Evening onboard entertainment: Welsh folk music performance
- The landscape changes again upon arriving in Holyhead
Fishguard and St. David’s, the spiritual heart of Wales
After breakfast, you’ll disembark in the tiny Welsh port of Fishguard and travel to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. This is the home of St. David's, the religious capital of Wales and the smallest city in the country. Enjoy your guided tour of the 12th-century Cathedral of St. David, which was built over a site where country’s patron saint, David, established a monastery in the 6 th century. The cathedral has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries. Other highlights include the 14th-century Tower Gate, Celtic Old Cross and a number of surrounding art galleries and pubs, which you can spend more time exploring during your afternoon at leisure. This evening before dinner, learn from a local historian about Wales’ relationship with the British Empire over the centuries. Then, be enchanted by the sounds of a classical harp performance on board.
- Half-day historical tour of St. David’s
- Lecture on Wales and the British Empire
- Evening onboard entertainment: classical Welsh harp performance
- The views are sure to be just as memorable as the name of the coastal city of Fishguard
The Abbey Gardens of Tresco, Isles of Scilly
Scattered off the Cornwall coast like a handful of pearls lie the lovely Isles of Scilly. Today after breakfast you’ll visit the Tresco, tendering ashore to a paradise of shell-strewn beaches, flower-filled heaths, and dense forests. Arriving at the Tresco Abbey Gardens you can hardly believe you are in England. For here, surrounded by protective stands of elm, sycamore, and oak, is a wonderland of exotic, subtropical flora from the Mediterranean and as far away as Brazil, Australia and South Africa. Walk with your guide among eye-popping bowers of bright orange bomarea, pink pincushion protea, spiny red and blue bromeliads, and more. Complementing the arboreal beauty are the maritime collections at the Valhalla Museum. Here you’ll admire items retrieved from shipwrecks dating back to the 17 th century, including 30 figureheads, a bronze cannon, quarter boards, and more. Back on board you’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch and an afternoon presentation on a topic that has relevance both at home and here in Britain: immigration in the United Kingdom.
- Visit the Abbey Gardens of Tresco
- Visit Valhalla Museum
- Arrive and depart in Tresco today and look forward to cruising between the varied Islands of Scilly
Windsor Castle, arrival in London
After breakfast the cruise portion of your journey concludes. You’ll disembark ship in Poole, set on the sweeping Dorset coast. It was from here that many of the troopships involved in the D-Day landings set sail for Normandy to rendezvous with history. From here you’ll transfer through the English countryside, stopping in Windsor to enjoy lunch on your own. Then, explore historic Windsor Castle, the world’s oldest occupied castle. Built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has served as a royal residence since then, and the current royal family, the House of Windsor, took their dynastic name from this beloved site. If you see the royal standard flying from its ramparts, that means the King is in residence! After your tour, you’ll proceed to London and check in to your hotel, perhaps taking some time to relax before you visit the city’s best-known restaurants for dinner.
- Tour of Windsor Castle
- Early this morning, sailing into Poole through the English Channel before continuing your journey
See London’s landmarks
Today’s half-day, guided panoramic city tour takes you by coach and by foot to view some of London’s most notable landmarks — Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Big Ben, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, and more. You’ll also enjoy an unforgettable visit to the Imperial War Museum. Your afternoon is at leisure and lunch is on your own. This evening, return to your hotel to celebrate with your fellow travelers at a Farewell drink and dinner.
- Half-day London city tour including visit of Imperial War Museum
Return home
After breakfast you’ll transfer to the airport for your return flight home. Or, if you’re joining our post-trip extension in Dublin, you’ll stay on for three more nights!
Please note: Ocean-cruising is not the same experience as river cruising; as such, you may experience fluctuating tides and weather patterns that may involve some rocking of your vessel. Itineraries will include all activities as planned except in extreme cases that can’t be controlled by your shipboard crew. Day-by-day itineraries are preliminary and therefore subject to change. If changes occur while on tour, you will be notified by your Cruise Director or regional expert.

Vantage Offering 48 Unique Cruise Itineraries for 2023-24
- April 1, 2023
With a second expedition ship now in service, Vantage Deluxe World Travel is expanding its deployment footprint with 48 unique itineraries across both ships in 2023 and 2024.
In addition to more sailings in Antarctica and the Arctic, Vantage is adding new cruises in South America, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
After debuting in late 2022, the Ocean Odyssey is spending the year sailing in Asia, the British Islands, the Mediterranean and Scandinavia. Unlike its sister ship, the Ocean Explorer, the new expedition vessel won’t explore any polar regions in 2023. As part of its inaugural season in Europe, the Ocean Odyssey is offering two 10-night cruises to the Adriatic on October 3 and October 13.
Sailing to Greece, Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia, the itineraries include visits to Piraeus, Itea, Katakolon, Corfu, Kotor, Dubrovnik, Hvar, Sibenik, Pula, Rovinj and Koper.
The cruises are also highlighted by transits of the Corinth Canal in Greece. During the 2023-24 winter season, the Odyssey is also offering itineraries in Southeast Asia. On January 15, an 11-night voyage explores the Indonesian archipelago, with visits to the Belitung Islands,
Semarang, Madura, Benoa, Jimbaran Bay and more. In 2024, the 140-guest vessel is adding new destinations to its schedule, such as Morocco and the Canary Islands, and is also offering its first expedition cruises in Iceland.
The Ocean Explorer, meanwhile, is offering more expedition sailings in 2023 and 2024, with new itineraries in Antarctica and the Arctic. In Antarctica, the ship sails shorter cruises from Ushuaia, known as the Antarctic Express Expedition.
Sailing roundtrip from Argentina, the seven-night voyage spends two full days in Antarctica and has fewer days at sea. New expeditions sailings in Central and South America have also been recently announced, with journeys visiting Argentina, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Chile and more.
One of the highlights of the tropical expedition program is the Amazon River. Four sailings are set to explore the river and the rainforest in 2023 and 2024. Sailing onboard the Ocean Explorer, the eight-night expeditions in the region offer opportunities for encounters with wildlife species, black-water rivers, floating villages and Indigenous communities.

Cruise ships on order 2023
- June 14, 2023
Ship’s name, owner, gross tonnage and yard are shown
Vessels with a planned delivery in Q1
Seabourn Pursuit , Seabourn Cruises, 23,000GRT, T. Mariotti yard, Italy
Final delivery July 2023
Following sister Seabourn Venture which was taken into service just a year ago, Seabourn Pursuit is the line’s second newbuilt expedition vessel. She can navigate both polar regions, being classified PC6 Polar Class. Two submarines, kajaks, 24 Zodiacs and an expedition team numbering 26 guarantee an unforgettable experience. There is a Discovery Center for guests to dive into the polar regions world and in her Expedition Lounge, daily lectures, enrichment programs and briefings will take place.
Emerald Sakara , Emerald Cruises, 10,000GRT, Halong Shipyard, North Vietnam
Emerald Cruises’ new Emerald Sakara , like her sister ship Emerald Azzurra offers unprecedented service and surroundings. 72 crew look after just 100 guests. Most things are included, like beer, wine and soda during lunch and dinner, several excursions in each port and other services provided onboard. 88 percent of her cabins have balconies. Active guests have a fitness room, marina platform equipped with paddleboards and snorkel equipment at their disposal together with a spa for relaxing. Her first voyage will take her to the Indian Ocean, to exotic destinations like the Seychelle Islands.
Havila Pollux , Havila shipping, 15,800GRT, Tersan, Turkey
Final delivery August 2023
Havila started operations along the Norwegian coast in December 2021 when their first vessel Capella was delivered by Turkish yard Tersan. Castor, Polaris were delivered in 2022, while Pollux is expected in March 2023, all delayed after the yard experienced technical difficulties as well as problems because of the COVID pandemic. Havila will operate 4 of the 11 ships on the Norwegian coastal route, taking over 4 sailings from Hurtigruten under a ten year government contract. These ships have the largest battery pack on any vessel nowadays, enabling them to sail the fjords up to 4 hours powered by electricity. The interiors reflect their Norwegian roots, as does the onboard cuisine. The observation room features a glass room and reclining seats, enabling passengers to view the midnight sun and northern lights.
Ocean Albatros , Sunstone ships, 7400GRT, CMIH-China Merchants Heavy Industry, China
Final delivery April 2023
These 104.4m long vessels have a capacity for 120 to 160 passengers in 93 suites, 68 with balconies, 9 with French balconies and 16 with panoramic windows. They are of revolutionary design, of the X-bow type and have Polar Code 6, Ice Class 1A, allowing them to sail virtually all waters in the polar regions. This year three ships of this series will be taken into service: Ocean Odyssey has been chartered out to Vantage Cruise Line, Sylvia Earle will join Greg Mortimer at Aurora Expeditions while Ocean Albatros will be operated by Albatros Expeditions. Although they are sister vessels to Greg Mortimer , the first ship in the Infinity-series, there are some differences as the flexibility of this series makes it possible to adapt the vessels to the needs of the charterers.
Viking Saturn , Viking Ocean Cruises, 47,000GRT, Fincantieri, Italy
Viking Saturn is the next new vessel in this endless series of 930-passenger ships which continue to bring Viking Cruises success. The Scandinavian décor and great onboard service combined with specialty dining (drinks included) make cruising with this line vey popular. Her spa and at least one excursion in each port of call are included in the cruise fare. These adult-only vessels sail enriching destination oriented cruises. The Viking Saturn -like her sisters- will not have art auctions, a casino or photographers following you around, as these ships offer quiet surroundings for travelling in comfort.
Vista , Oceania Cruises, 67,000GRT, Fincantieri, Italy
Final delivery May 2023
Vista will be Oceania’s first newbuilding in a decade, she is the first of a new class of vessels, the Allura Class. Oceania is known for her high level cuisine, the line was the first to ever serve a vegetarian menu. The gourmet tradition wil continue with several new dining venues onboard Vista like Aquamar serving healthy food and Ember focusing on American food. A novelty are the single staterooms having balconies. The most luxurious accommodtation, the Owners Suites and Vista Suites of course have butler service and are decorated with design details from Ralph Lauren House.
SH Diana , Swan Hellenic Cruises, 12,500GRT, Helsinki shipyard, Finland
Final delivery March 2023
Swan Hellenic will welcome its third vessel, SH Diana , after SH Minerva and SH Vega entered service in 2021 and 2022. She is slightly larger than her predecessors, 120 crew serve 152 guests, an unusually high crew to passenger ratio. Swan Hellenic specializes in polar region expedition cruises, SH Diana ’s first voyage will take her to Helgoland, Mandal, Ulvik, Skjolden, Nordfjordeid, Froya Island, Bronnoysund, Glomfjord, Svolvaer, Trollfjorden ending in Tromso.
Resilient Lady Virgin Cruises, 110,000GRT, Fincantieri, Italy
Final delivery December 2022 (!)
Sister ship to Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady , the third of Virgin Voyages’ “lady ships,” Resilient Lady will enter service in the spring of 2023. She will also be an adult-only ship, especially the party loving crowd will love her, organising great parties is one of Virgin Voyages’ trademarks. And onboard Resilient Lady , there will be no main restuarants, but around 20 informal intimate food serving venues. At night, artists will rotate, switching from one location to another. On board, there will be many references to Virgin’s roots, the music industry like record players in the ship’s suites and a shop selling music equipment and magazines.
Scenic Eclipse II , Scenic Cruises, 16,500GRT, 3 Maj shipyard, Croatia
Although she is marketed as an ultra luxury yacht, she does measure 168 meters, but she is still able to enter ports inaccessible to the mega cruise ships. Scenic Eclipse II will mainly sail to polar regions (she has the highest ice classification) but other destinations are also included in her itineraries. She carries helicopters and a submarine. Her cruises are completely all-inclusive as (premium) drinks, excursions, transfers, flights all are included.
Vessels with a planned delivery in Q2
Euribia, MSC Cruises, 177,000GRT, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, France
MSC Euribia will arrive in June 2023. She is MSC’s third Meraviglia-plus class vessel (following MSC Grandiosa and MSC Virtuosa ) . Immediately after the ship was annonced, MSC was not very generous giving information about their new 6,334-guest vessel other than she would be powered by liquid natural gas and her facilities will be comparable to those off the other ships of this class. To clearly show MSC Cruises’ commitment to environmental sustainability, the line held an international design competition to create unique artwork for the ship’s hull, inspired by the sea. More than 450 designs from 59 countries worldwide were submitted. German artist Alex Flaemig was selected as the winner by a panel of international judges.
Explora I , Explora Journeys, 64,000GRT, Fincantieri, Italy
The first vessel of MSC’s new luxury brand, Explora Journeys, Explora I will arrive in the summer of 2023. Positioned in the luxury segment, this new brand emphasizes that Explora I sails on journeys, not cruises. Exotic destinations, great service and enrichment are key words in Explora Journey’s philosophy. Cabins are quite large, starting from 380 sq ft. On deck there will be 64 cabanas lining three pools. Her fourth pool will feature a magrodome, a retractable roof which can close off the pool in inclement weather. According to the line, there will be nine dining venues, or “dining experiences” as they are called.
Vessels with a planned delivery in Q3
Silver Nova , Silversea Cruises, 54,700GRT, Meyer Werft, Germany
The first all balcony ship in the luxury Silversea fleet, Silver Nova will debut in summer 2023, carrying 728 passengers, she will also be their largest ship and have the line’s first hybrid technology aiming to be totally emission free in port. The well known S.A.L.T. gourmet culinary program will be available in her eight restaurants. Silver Nova ’s “innovative asymmetrical as well as horizontal design ensures outstanding public areas, which fuse seamlessly together”as the line states. Silver Nova will introduce spacious suites, many of which offer a 270˚ view from sea to sky.
Norwegian Viva , Norwegian Cruise Line, 142,500GRT, Fincantieri, Italy
Norwegian Viva will almost be an exact copy of Norwegian Prima when she debuts in the fall of 2023. Her bigger and faster go-kart racetrack which winds around her funnel and her drop down dry slides will doubtless lift adrenaline levels to unprecedented heights. As onboard her sister, the The Haven has been shifted aft. This offers more privacy for this ship-within-a-ship complex which features its own pool, sundeck, restauarants and bars. Norwegian Viva will be part of a series of six Prima-class ships to be constructed by the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy from 2022 to 2027, one each year at a cost of around USD 850 million per vessel. World renowned architects have worked on the design of the new vessel: leading Italian interior architect Piero Lissoni together with the Rockwell Group, Tillberg design, SMC Design, YSA Design and Studio Dado which was responsible for staterooms, several restaurants and other public spaces. As NCL states “ Norwegian Viva like her sister will push the boundaries of contemporary cruising and its “ Guests First “principle will result in offering passengers more space, spectacular interior design and world class service”. Indeed Norwegian Viva will offer it passengers the highest space-ratio (e.g. the most outdoor space of any new cruise ship) and highest crew-to passenger ratio in its category.

Brilliant Lady Virgin Cruises, 110,000GRT, Fincantieri, Italy
Final delivery postponed to 2024
Check out my article on her sister ship Scarlet Lady and its owner Virgin Cruises, a newcomer in the cruise industry. Virgin wants to shake up the current cruising scene, making it more informal and party-oriented. An example of this is that there are no restaurants on Brilliant Lady and of course no fixed meal times. On board, there will be many references to Virgin’s roots, the music industry like record players in the ship’s suites and a shop selling music equipment and magazines. These sister ships are of the so called Lady Ships class, also pointing to Virgin’s roots. Like on the former sailing ships, on its bow will be a mermaid and Virgin’s logo.
Icon of the Seas , Royal Caribbean Cruises, 250,800GRT, Meyer Turku, Finland
Final delivery December 2023
After delivery in December 2023, Icon of the Seas will be stationed in the Caribbean year round. She will be the largest cruise ship in the world when delivered, measuring over 250,000GRT. Icon of the Seas will be 365 meter long, 49 meter wide and will have capacity for 5600 passengers double occupancy (7300 passengers full capacity). She will be Royal Caribbean Cruises’ most environmentally friendly vessel, being powered by LNG. A ship of her size will be the ultimate family oriented cruise ship, featuring an endless list of facilities.
Seven Seas Grandeur , Regent even Seas Cruises, 54,000, Fincantieri, Italy
Final delivery November 2023
According to Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seven Seas Grandeur will be the new “world’s most luxurious cruise ship”, taking the title from Seven Seas Explorer as she is an improved version of this ship. They also state she will have the highest space and crew ratio per passenger in the industry. The $11,000-per-night Regent Suite will again be present. Gourmet food will be served in her main dining room Compass Rose and her other three restaurants. Seven Seas Grandeur will feature an extremely luxurious interior with lots of expensive art, sculptures etc.
Celebrity Ascent , Celebrity Cruises, 140,,600, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, France
Another Edge Class vessel, Celebrity Ascent will join her sisters Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Beyond . All of the popular features will again be present like the moveable deck Magic Carpet which can be used as embarkation platform, restaurant and bar. The infinite balconies will be available for solo travellers for the first time. Icon and Edge Villas will be added as a new stateroom choice, they will even have private plunge pools! Celebrity Ascent like her sisters features the three-deck high Eden Lounge surrounded by 7000 square meters of glass and the Infnity balconies which will enlarge staterooms when closed off.
Carnival Jubilee , Carnival Cruises, 183,900, Meyer Werft, Germany
Introduced after Carnival Mardi Gras (2021) and Carnival Celebration (2022), Carnival Jubilee will debut in December 2023, being homeported in Galveston. Many Carnival favorites will be present like Guy’s Burgers, the two-story Red Frog-themed tiki bar, all being expanded versions. Like her sisters, Carnival Jubilee will also have themed neighborhoods with improved facilities compared to her predecessors.

Janssonius , Oceanwide Expeditions, 6,300GRT, Brodosplit, Croatia
Delivery postponed, no final date set
Oceanwide’s new Janssonius , will be a sister ship to their Hondius (2019) and is another expedition ship in the endless stream of this type of vessel coming online these days. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic slowed everything down, Croatian shipbuilder Brodosplit cites as reason for her late delivery. With her ice-class classification Polar class 6 she will be able to sail the Arctic and Antarctic polar regions. She features a platform for watersport activities and guests can use two different (dis-)embarkation points when leaving for or returning from excursions by Zodiac. Offering 78 staterooms, her most luxurious accommodation are six 33sqm suites fitted with balconies.

mv Aegean Odyssey Review
Review of mv aegean odyssey.
The 1973-built MV Aegean Odyssey cruise ship was last operated/chartered by Voyages to Antiquity (2009-founded one-ship company). The liner was originally built as a ferry (Zim ro-ro ferry Narcis) and in 1988 converted to a cruise vessel. Its second major drydock refit/reconstruction was in 2010.
NEWS: In late-August 2019 was announced that Aegean Odyssey will be 3-year chartered to Road Scholar (fka Elderhostel). The 1975-founded, Boston MA -headquartered nonprofit organization specializes in study tours (throughout Canada and USA) with 5500+ educational programs which are geared mainly to older travellers. The ship is currently under charter by Road Scholar for cruises (educational voyages) scheduled between March 2020 and March 2023.
History - construction and ownership
The 388-passenger liner Aegean Odyssey is a classically elegant vessel offering its passengers a relaxed travel atmosphere and high level of personalized service.
In early-August 2019, the ship charterer Voyages to Antiquity (one of the industry's small cruise lines ) officially announced that the company ceases operations at the end of October (2019). Earlier in 2019, Voyages to Antiquity was forced to cancel ten Aegean Odyssey cruises due to engine problems . 2019's final 4 voyages remained on schedule. In a letter, Jos Dewing (company's Managing Director) said:
“Since the announcement [of chartering the ship] was made, the executive management at Voyages to Antiquity has been looking at various alternative options to continue the company and serve our loyal clients. However, this process was severely impacted by the unforeseeable engine failure that occurred in April this year, forcing the company to cancel most of our remaining 2019 summer cruises. While we are pleased to advise that the ship has now been fully repaired and that the final four cruises of the 2019 season will go ahead as scheduled, this serious issue has had an impact on the future plans for Voyages to Antiquity and repairing the ship has been the absolute priority for management and the focus of the company during this difficult period. It is therefore with regret that we have taken the difficult decision to close Voyages to Antiquity at the end of October 2019, at which point our office in Oxford will also close. It is very much business as normal until this point and we have staff answering calls and supporting those passengers still traveling with us in 2019."
Decks and Cabins
MV Aegean Odyssey staterooms (198 total) are in 14 grades, of which 6x are Suites, 42x Balconies, and 41x Inside cabins. During drydock 2013 were created 18 new outside cabins (on Lido Deck). Of the existing staterooms, 57 were rebuilt, and 80 more were reconfigured into 40 balcony cabins.
The boat has 9 decks , of which 7 are passenger-accessible and 4 with cabins.
Shipboard facilities and amenities
The open-seating Marco Polo Restaurant is the main dining room aboard Aegean Odyssey. The Terrace Café features a combination of outdoor and indoor seating, with Mediterranean sophisticated interior design, as well as cooking on the open grill. In the evenings, the Tapas recreates the informal atmosphere of a bistro with delicious seafood paella and a wide range of Italian pizzas.
The Observation Lounge and Piano Bar are situated on the Observation Deck and feature unforgettable views on all sides. In this area, wireless Internet connection is offered. During the 2013 refit, the Athena Health Spa was moved several levels lower. Other amenities include the Lido Bar (2-deck), Ambassador Lounge, Charleston Lounge, Fitness Studio & Gym (featuring free daily sunrise classes), Beauty Salon, library, boutique, pool and Internet Centre.
Itineraries
Aegean Odyssey itinerary program is based on the Canary Islands and Mediterranean cruises departing from Civitavecchia-Rome , Venice , Athens , Istanbul , as well as Asia cruises sailing out of Singapore . Aegean Odyssey is perfectly suited for cruising to the smallest Mediterranean inlets that larger cruise ships can’t reach. She also navigates the great Asian rivers, including Saigon and Yangon, as well as Guadalquivir River in Spain.

mv Aegean Odyssey Wiki
MS Aegean Odyssey was the only liner operated by Voyages to Antiquity (2009-founded small cruise company ). The vessel was originally built as Ro-Ro cruiseferry Narcis (converted to a cruise ship in 1988). It was built under yard number 617. Its construction started on June 18, 1971. The vessel was launched (floated out from drydock) on June 18, 1972, and delivered to Zim Navigation on August 22, 1973.
In 2010, the ship was renamed "Aegean Odyssey" following an extensive drydock-refit project done in Ermoupoli (on Syros Island, Greece) . Vessel's passenger capacity was reduced from 570 to 400, in order to provide larger cruise staterooms. During the refurbishment, the cinema was replaced with a lecture hall and also new dining venues were added. The inaugural cruise for Voyages to Antiquity departed on April 30, 2010. As shipowner was registered the Piraeus -based company Samos Maritime Co Ltd (later changed to The Aegean Experience Maritime Co Ltd).
Fun fact is, that the cruise ship can pass through Corinth Canal (only 70 ft / 21,4 m wide at its base). On all Aegean Odyssey cruises is complimentary provided an expert lecture program led by renown guest speakers.
During its service, the vessel was operated under the names Narcis ferry (1973-1985, by Zim Navigation), Alkyon (1985-1986, by Dolphin Hellas Shipping), Aegean Dolphin (1986-1996, by Dolphin Hellas Shipping), Aegean I (1996-2010, by Golden Sun Cruises) and Aegean Odyssey (since 2010, by Aegean Experience Maritime Co Ltd, in 2016 renamed to "Aegean Odyssey Maritime Co Ltd").
