Expected in early 2024 , Discovery ’s fifth season will be 10 episodes long, down from the 13 of prior seasons. In the wake of season four‘s climax earlier this year , Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) led her crew in a desperate attempt to save the galaxy from a mysterious anomaly created by an extra-galactic race, ensuring peace and stability for the Federation once more... for now. The animated series aimed at younger Trek fans (and Janeway fans!) and kids at heart can be found on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+. It’s really happening! After a long tease, filming on this series will begin in 2024. Here’s the official announcement from co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau:

“Admission is now open to Starfleet Academy! Explore the galaxy! Captain your destiny! For the first time in over a century, our campus will be re-opened to admit individuals a minimum of 16 Earth years (or species equivalent) who dream of exceeding their physical, mental and spiritual limits, who value friendship, camaraderie, honor and devotion to a cause greater than themselves. The coursework will be rigorous, the instructors among the brightest lights in their respective fields, and those accepted will live and study side-by-side with the most diverse population of students ever admitted. Today we encourage all who share our dreams, goals and values to join a new generation of visionary cadets as they take their first steps toward creating a bright future for us all. Apply today!   Ex Astris, Scientia!”

Upcoming (movie) : Star Trek: Section 31

Image for article titled Star Trek Release Dates: When to Expect All the New and Returning Shows

Announced as a TV series back in 2019 as a spinoff for fan-favorite Discovery guest star Michelle Yeoh, this plunge into the seediest side of Starfleet—the shadowy spy organization Section 31 first introduced in Deep Space Nine— is now planned as a Paramount+ film .

Newly minted Oscar winner Yeoh will return as former emperor of the Mirror Universe’s Terran Empire, Phillipa Georgiou, now turned into a kinder, but still kickass person by her time with Michael Burnham. “I’m beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family and to the role I’ve loved for so long,” Yeoh said in a statement. “ Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched. To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!”

Written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, Star Trek: Section 31 will start production later this year, and eventually come to Paramount+.

Upcoming Star Trek TV Shows: What's Ahead For The Sci-Fi Franchise

Here's what's ahead for Star Trek.

Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery

It’s a golden era for Star Trek tv shows, as the franchise is churning out more content than ever before. Fans with a Paramount+ subscription can stream a plethora of old and new content from one of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time.

There’s a ton of new Star Trek content coming in the future, including the debut of a new show as well as the return of all the ones fans already know well. For those who need a breakdown of what all to expect, look no further because here’s where and when all the new Trek will arrive in 2023 and beyond. There’s even some information on planned shows that aren’t quite ready yet, but hopefully, we’ll see them soon enough.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 - Premiering On April 4th 2024

Captain Michael Burnham and the crew are back, and based on what we've seen and heard about Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 so far, some changes are on the way. Season 5 will see the crew race against others in an attempt to secure an ancient power, and will apparently have a tonal shift that will skew more toward action and adventure. We also learned that this coming season will be the final adventure , as Paramount+ decided to end the series after this coming season. The final season will kick off in April and, fingers crossed, leave an avenue open for more stories with these characters in the 32nd century.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 - In Production

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is coming back for Season 3, and is currently filming for the upcoming season. It's likely the season will kick off with the second part of the adventure started in the Season 2 finale . Pike must decide whether or not he's going to listen to Starfleet and retreat to avoid further conflict with the Gorn or to stay and try to save the kidnapped crew members. I have a hunch I know what decision he'll make, but I'm also very invested in seeing if Scotty will remain with the crew and what other adventures will come as well.

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 - Coming In 2024

Paramount+ originally renewed Star Trek: Prodigy for Season 2, but announced later that it had been canceled alongside other shows on the platform. While the news was a bummer to many and encouraged responses from stars like Kate Mulgrew , there is a silver lining. After some talk with other companies, Paramount managed to negotiate a deal where the series will transition over to Netflix , and Season 2 will release over there. At this time, it's unknown whether or not this will lead to more seasons of Prodigy , but fans are thankful they'll at least get to see the season that was being worked on coming up in 2024.

Section 31 Movie - Production Underway

Section 31 was one of the first Star Trek spinoffs announced after Discovery , and yet it took the longest to get off the ground. The series was supposed to Michelle Yeoh ’s Phillipa Georgiou and her efforts in the secret ops Starfleet faction that does the jobs that others in the organization would rather not know about. Other former Discovery stars, like Shazad Latif, were involved at one point, but some believed the odds of it happening aren't great after Michelle Yeoh's Oscar win .

It turns out Yeoh was interested in making it happen, and Paramount+ decided to alter the idea to a movie . Fans are excited about the project all the same, and ready to see Michelle Yeoh back in her role. Production on the film is officially underway, and it's looking like a premiere sometime in late 2024 to 2025 is likely.

Starfleet Academy - Production Starting In 2024

Alex Kurtzman revealed not long ago that Star Trek is actively working on another new live-action series , and it’s going to be set at Starfleet Academy. Of course, we don’t know exactly what era this series is set to take place during or who is going to star in it yet. We don’t really know much of anything, though it’s worth noting that Star Trek: Discovery did write off its character Tilly when she took an offer at Starfleet Academy. The episode where that happened seemed like it could be a backdoor pilot for the show, but again, we have no idea. We do know that the writer's room is underway, but details are scant beyond that.

As shown above, there’s still a ton of Star Trek on the way in 2024, and beyond. The only way to watch these shows is with a Paramount+ subscription , which is totally worth picking up with the increasing amount of shows and movies available to watch.

  • Star Trek: Discovery season 5 premieres on April 4, 2024, with 2 episodes dropping on Paramount+.
  • The episode titles and writers for each episode have been announced, promising a tonally different adventure.
  • The 10-episode final season will feature a mix of episodic storytelling and an overall arc, keeping audiences engaged.

The Discovery season 5 episode titles and the writers of each Discovery season 5 episode were previously announced in January 2024, along with a general premiere date of April 2024. Discovery season 5 promises a 10-episode adventure that's tonally different from previous seasons of Star Trek: Discovery , with Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery taking part in a race for what is said to be "the greatest treasure in the known galaxy" .

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 premieres with 2 episodes on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Little is known about the plot of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, since the episode titles are free from any potential spoilers , and Discovery season 5 trailers and clips don't give much away. Although there are few details revealed, the Discovery trailer from New York Comic Con 2022 and exclusive clips that were released at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2023 and at CCXP in Brazil in December 2023 all promised the same fast-paced action set pieces and character-focused drama that audiences have come to expect from Discovery as the flagship Star Trek show on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 - Everything We Know

Star trek: discovery season 5 episode premiere dates, discovery season 5 streams thursdays in april & may 2024.

Star Trek: Discovery Returns for Season 5

Discovery season 5 streaming dates close a 2-year gap between seasons..

It's been a long wait for more Star Trek: Discovery . The finale of Discovery season 4 streamed on March 17, 2022, meaning the gap of over two years between the end of Discovery season 4 and the start of Discovery season 5 on April 4, 2024, is the longest yet. By contrast, the gap between season 3 and season 4 of Discovery was only 10 months, lasting from January 2021 until November 2021; while a longer period of 18 months lapsed between Discovery 's 2nd and 3rd seasons. However, the wait will finally end with the announcement of streaming dates for Star Trek: Discovery season 5's final 10 episodes.

The 10-episode Star Trek: Discovery season 5 will allow for "more episodic adventures," according to executive producer Michelle Paradise. This kind of more episodic storytelling on Discovery season 5 will also retain an overall arc, similar to the style that has been well-received on spinoff Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . More to the point, the final season of Star Trek: Discovery should be worth the two-year wait, as audiences join Captain Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery's crew every Thursday this spring on the hunt for a powerful, mysterious artifact.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 premieres April 4, 2024 on Paramount+.

star trek series premiere dates

When Paramount+ brought Trek back to television in September 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery's double-decker premiere event , it broke ground on a road that would see the rebirth of the Trek franchise.

Six years later, Star Trek: Discovery has saved the galaxy multiple times; traveled through the mycelial network, to the Mirror Universe and back, forward in time nine hundred years , and beyond the edge of the known universe; and spawned the highly successful spin-off Star Trek: Strange New Worlds .

In March, Paramount+ announced the fifth season will be the USS Discovery's final mission. We've gathered all the intel on what it'll entail, who's on board, and when you can expect to buckle up and hold on as Michael Burnham and her crew let 'er fly one last time.

Star Trek: Discovery S5: Everything We Know

What can we expect from the Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 plot?

After making first contact with an extra-dimensional species and convincing them to stop sending their galactic mineral extractor through our galaxy, destroying planets and star systems willy-nilly, you'd think our intrepid time-traveling spacefarers would've earned a rest.

But no, the teaser for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 hints at a treasure hunt for a sought-after power that could -- you guessed it -- destroy the universe.

According to Paramount+, " The fifth and final season will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. "

Of course, it's not so easy as just following the clues and bringing it home. There have to be obstacles and competitors. " But there are others on the hunt as well … dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it. "

Who will be a part of the Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 cast?

All of the core cast from Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 are expected to return for this last hurrah.

United Earth President - Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 13

Cast Members Returning for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

That certainly includes Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Chief Science Officer Saru (Doug Jones), Chief Medical Officer Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Cleveland Booker (David Ajala), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) and Adira (Blu del Barrio).

We also expect to see the return of recurring characters Starfleet Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) and Federation President Laira Rillak (Chelah Horsdal), although probably not the United Earth President (Stacey Freakin' Abrams -- yeah, that actually happened) due to other obligations.

It's unlikely Burnham would embark without her bridge crew, so Lieutenants Detmer (Emily Coutts), Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo), Rhys (Patrick Kwok-Choon), Bryce (Ronnie Rowe), and Nilsson (Sara Mitich) should all be present and accounted for at launch.

And no Discovery adventure would be complete without Lt. Linus (David Benjamin Tomlinson) repping the Saurians and Commander Jett Reno (Tig Notaro) showing up for curmudgeons everywhere.

L'ak and Malinne Ravel - Star Trek: Discovery

In addition, the footage that we've seen from Season 5 indicates Kovich (David Cronenberg) will be central to the plot's action. That looks like fun.

New Cast Members for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Newcomers L'ak ( The Expanse 's Elias Toufexis) and Moll ( The Night Agent 's Eve Harlow) are exciting additions to the cast, competing with Burnham's crew on this treasure hunt.

Having seen Harlow hunt on The Night Agent as assassin Ellen, they could definitely prove problematic.

Harlow's Moll is described as "highly intelligent and dangerous, with an impressive strategic mind and a sharp wit. She goes into every situation with a clear plan and stays focused and clear-headed on her goal, even when things go awry.

star trek series premiere dates

"She’s not intimidated by Captain Burnham or the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery and will face down anyone who stands in her way in order to get what she wants."

Sci-fi fan favorite Callum Keith Rennie as Vulcan Starfleet officer Raynor will also be spending time with us in space.

From The Umbrella Academy to Jessica Jones to The Man in the High Castle, Rennie consistently owns his space with confident intensity and will be someone to watch as the season unfolds.

Who is the Main Villain of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Now that the strike is over I can finally share this: I have my own #StarTrek ship! That's absolutely bonkers to me brain. #StarTrekDiscovery pic.twitter.com/SKQREtWNhm — ᴇʟɪᴀꜱ ᴛᴏᴜꜰᴇxɪꜱ 🖖 (@EliasToufexis) November 9, 2023

Elias Toufexis has been quick to announce to the world that he, an avid Trek fan, has his own Star Trek ship, crowing about it on social media as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike ended.

At the 57-Year Mission Convention in Las Vegas, Toufexis confirmed that L'ak is Season 5's "main villain."

La'k is the romantic in the duo, it seems, described as "tough, impulsive and fiercely protective of his beloved partner, Moll. So long as he knows she’s safe, he doesn’t care about collateral damage or its consequences."

Callum Keith Rennie as Rayner - Star Trek: Discovery

How many episodes will there be in Star Trek: Discovery Season 5?

The March press release revealed that the entirety of Star Trek: Discovery will consist of 65 episodes. Seeing as the Season 4 finale was the 55th episode in the series, we can deduce that Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 will be ten episodes long.

Will the writers' and actors' strikes affect the release of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5?

Paramount+ renewed Star Trek: Discovery for its fifth season in January 2022. Production began in June of that year, and the entire season was considered complete before the end of 2022.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Cast Photo

The announcement in March 2023 that Season 5 would be the final season caught the production team by surprise. It required executive producer and director Olatunde Osunsanmi to return to Toronto to shoot new scenes to transform the season finale into a series finale.

All this was done before the strikes began, and the season is, as they say, in the can and ready for release.

When will Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 premiere?

At the Paramount+ panel at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, they announced that Season 5 will return in April 2024.

In addition, an exciting new trailer and cast image was released.

How will Star Trek: Discovery end?

There are no crystal balls or time portals to consult, but long-time fans will recall that we've already seen what happens to the USS Discovery and her sentient computer, Zora, after the crew is gone.

There is no cushy place in a Starfleet museum for Zora, and it's unlikely she'd be happy there anyway.

On Star Trek: Short Treks Season 1 Episode 2 , long after she'd grown used to solitude, Zora picks up a man adrift in space and saves his life.

In a parallel tale to the story of Odysseus on Calypso's island -- note the minisode is also titled "Calypso" -- the man, Craft, grows to love his rescuer but ultimately has to leave her.

Calypso S'Wonderful - Star Trek: Discovery

So, will we see the crew abandon Discovery as part of their mission to find this ancient power?

Will our intrepid heroes splinter their paths and seek new worlds and strange pursuits?

Can the Federation and Starfleet remain aspirational as an entity wholly independent of Earth or any planet?

Who will save the galaxy when Burnham and Saru and their posse resign their commission?

While you mull these and many other questions, check out the footage from Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Paramount+ released at SDCC 2023.

Have your say, Star Trek Fanatics!

Is there enough action there to tide you over until the premiere?

Can Burnham keep up this adventuring pace? Will Kovich suit up and show her how it's done?

Star Trek: Discovery Sets Premiere Date for Fifth and Final Season

Star Trek: Discovery will come to its conclusion with its newest season, with a first look poster unveiling its premiere date.

The final season of Star Trek: Discovery now has an official release date thanks to Paramount, and it is only a few months away.

Paramount recently revealed the air date for the first two episodes of the sci-fi spinoff's fifth and final season, which is set to premiere on April 4 exclusively on the company's in-house streaming service Paramount+. Each new episode will air following the premiere on a weekly basis to make up a 10 episode season leading to the series finale.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Will Be 'Pure Adventure,' Teases Star

To promote the show, Paramount also shared a poster for the show online depicting its main cast of characters overlooking an extraterrestrial valley as the starship U.S.S. Discovery appears toward the bottom. According to Paramount, the final season will pit Captain Burnham and the Discovery's crew against a slew of rivals seeking an ancient and powerful artifact that has been hidden for centuries.

Set a decade before the events of the original Star Trek television show, Discovery is a prequel series that details the adventures of the titular spacefaring vessel as they travel across the stars. Along the way, they face a variety of cosmic adversaries and make new allies as they explore an aspect of Star Trek lore that has never been officially depicted in previous iterations.

Star Trek: Discovery's Doug Jones Recalls 'Daunting' Beginning for Sci-Fi Series

The show stars The Walking Dead alum Sonequa Martin-Green as Captain Burnham alongside Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman and Wilson Cruz and is one of many spinoffs of the original Star Trek television series. Discovery is spearheaded by co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise with Paramount in charge of distribution.

As it stands now, the original cast of Discovery is all set to return for the final season along with several new characters that will serve as both allies and antagonists to the Discovery crew. Currently, however, the only plot details about the final season are in the show's official description, which do not describe any new characters or plot information in any more specific terms.

Star Trek: Discovery Was Mostly Well Reviewed

Star Trek: Discovery has enjoyed strong reviews and critical reception across its previous four seasons, maintaining an 85% average review score on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes since its debut in 2017. Now, after six years and four seasons, the fifth will bring the show to its inevitable conclusion, which will bridge the timeline between it and the beginning of Kirk's iconic mission in the original series.

Star Trek: Discovery is available to stream on Paramount+.

‘You’ Season 5: Everything We Know So Far About Joe’s Final Act

Penn Badgley and Charlotte Ritchie in 'You' Season 4.

Would you like Swooon in your inbox? Signup for our Swooon! newsletter!

Take cover, New York City. Joe Goldberg ( Penn Badgley ) is back in town.

You will return for a fifth and final season on Netflix , with Joe coming full circle in the Big Apple. The series has had quite the journey since its premiere in 2018. The psychological thriller originated on Lifetime before moving over to Netflix after the first season.

Scroll down to get the latest updates about You Season 5.

Does You Season 5 Have a Premiere Date?

A premiere date for You Season 5 has not been announced. The series was renewed for a fifth and final season in March 2023. When the renewal was announced , Netflix noted that Season 5 would premiere in 2024. However, the double Hollywood strikes delayed most productions later in the year as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA members sought new deals with the AMPTP.

You Season 5 is set to start filming in spring 2024. The final season could premiere in late 2024 or make its last run in 2025.

You Season 5 Cast

Badgley will be back as the one and only Joe Goldberg. Charlotte Ritchie will return as well as Joe’s latest love, Kate.

Penn Badgley in 'You' Season 4

Joe will be meeting his in-laws in Season 5, so get ready for more family drama. Griffin Matthews has been cast as Kate’s brother, Teddy Lockwood. Pitch Perfect alum Anna Camp will play Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, Joe’s twin sisters-in-law.

The Handmaid’s Tale star Madeline Brewer has joined the cast as Bronte, an “enigmatic and free-spirited playwright who comes to work at Joe Goldberg’s new bookstore.” Could she be Joe’s new obsession ? Bronte, you in danger, girl.

What about Rhys? Ed Speleers weighed in on Joe’s serial killer alter ego possibly coming back into the fold.

“I would absolutely love a Rhys return,” Speleers told TV Insider . “But as it stands, there’s nothing yet. If it ends up being Rhys isn’t involved, I feel very honored that I got so much from that and so much time to play because Rhys was a great part to play. Again, I’m privileged and grateful to Netflix for giving me that chance because it was a different way for me to work. But at the moment, no, I’ve not heard.”

Badgley had been hopeful about a final season after the way Season 4 played out . “It feels to me like it’s building towards one last giant hurrah, but I don’t know,” Badgley told TV Insider regarding the Season 4 ending. “I don’t know if Rhys is a part of that. I don’t know if Rhys is gone, or if [Joe has] become Rhys, what Rhys really is and represents. If Joe has really embraced this part of himself, what does that mean?”

Is There a Season 5 Trailer?

There’s no official Season 5 trailer at the moment, but Padgley teased the final season at Tudum, Netflix’s global fan event, in June 2023.

“Brazil, I’ve heard you’re on the edge of your seats, waiting and theorizing about the epic conclusion to You ,” Badgley says in the video. “More importantly, you’re considering what, or should I say, who Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York. Though I can’t say who just yet, we all know there are many loose ends from Joe’s past. The question is, who are you?”

Marienne ( Tati Gabrielle ), Ellie ( Jenna Ortega ), Dr. Nicky ( John Stamos ), Sherry ( Shalita Grant ), and Cary ( Travis Van Winkle ), your time is now! Joe’s had so many victims over the years. He’s surely got a heavy dose of karma headed his way in the final season.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is now available in France

W hile we here in the United States can watch the first complete season of Star Trek: Prodigy on Netflix, we're still awaiting the second season which is supposed to release sometime this year. Surprisingly, according to breaking news by Trek Central , the animated Trek series has already made its debut in France, and it's not just a few episodes. All twenty episodes of the second season are now available on French national broadcaster ‘France Télévisions’.

This comes as a surprise to Prodigy fans who've been impatiently waiting for the debut of the second season and is rather unusual. But “France.TV”, the online streaming service for the national public broadcaster has released the series before it has been released anywhere else. While this is a first, it does offer open for the US and other international streaming channels that the premiere might be just around the corner.

In a preview clip from the second season, we saw that Robert Picardo will be reprising his role at the Emergency Medical Hologram and will join Admiral Janeway aboard the new Voyager-A. He will be mentoring the young warrant officers in training along with the admiral, and Picardo assured fans that he was not just there for comic relief . So we can expect some serious episodes and/or scenes from the series for its second season.

This release is surprising to Prodigy fans as it debuted without any fanfare or advance warning, but it also tells us to keep a close eye on Star Trek: Prodigy's social media channels (on X as @TrekProdigyRoom ) as well as executive producer, Aaron Waltke (on X as @GoodAaron ) and series creators Dan and Kevin Hageman (on X at @BrothersHageman ). Although none of these channels announced the season two premiere of Prodigy in France, they will have information on the premiere for US fans!
