Entire cab right from madurai airport to luxeglamp to kodaikanal and back to airport were very well taken care by his team. My son who has motion sickness never vomited the entire trip. accomodation was good, room was neat and clean with basic facilities like hot water but dont expect any luxury in this hotel as its a simple economy type of hotel. My package included a dedicated cab for two days, cab driver ( Ajith) was a decent and well behaved guy, he covered almost all the points in 2 days and acted as a guide as well. Overall, it was a nice Ooty and Kodai trip.

About Kodaikanal

Nestled in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, India, Kodaikanal earns its title as the “Princess of Hill Stations.” Its name, derived from the Tamil words “Kodai” and “Kanal,” translates to “Gift of the Forest,” aptly reflecting its lush surroundings. Established in 1845 as a refuge from sweltering temperatures, this hill station sits at 2133 meters and was initially inhabited by the Paliyar tribal people.

While Kodaikanal welcomes visitors year-round, the optimal time to experience its charm is during the summer, from April to June. Ideally, plan a 3- to 4-day trip to fully explore Kodaikanal’s myriad attractions and surrounding areas.

How to Get to Kodaikanal ?

The closest airport to Kodaikanal is in Madurai, approximately 120 kilometres away. Major airlines such as Air India and IndiGo serve the Madurai airport, offering convenient travel options for visitors to reach their destination.

By Road from Bangalore

The distance from Bangalore to Kodaikanal spans approximately 460 kilometres, with a travel time averaging around 9 hours by road. Optimal passage is achieved via the Hosur road, renowned for its excellent road conditions, save for a few sections within the ghats.

Route: Bangalore – Hosur – Krishnagiri – Salem – Karur – Dindigul – Kodaikanal.

The preferred route navigates through Bangalore, Hosur, Krishnagiri, Salem, Karur, Dindigul, and Kodaikanal. The last 100 kilometres entail a challenging ghat (hill) section, demanding the expertise of an experienced driver, particularly during nocturnal journeys due to the winding and narrow roads.

Along the way, numerous fast-food establishments offer respite for travellers, with Krishnagiri and Salem recommended for breakfast and lunch, respectively. Expect several tolls along the route, with an estimated cost averaging around INR 500.

Exercise caution during the journey as monkeys and cows occasionally traverse the roads, necessitating a slow and vigilant approach to ensure a safe passage.

By Public Transport

The closest railway station to the hill station is located at Kodai Road, approximately 80 kilometres away. For current and accurate information regarding train schedules and bookings, travellers are advised to visit the IRCTC website.

Berijam Lake

Featuring wax replicas of Indian and renowned personalities, this museum offers an intriguing glimpse into history and culture. While it may not claim the finest title, it remains a worthwhile destination for admiring lifelike wax sculptures and investing approximately an hour in exploration.

Solar Observatory Museum
