Training Aids That Work – Tour Tempo

More in reviews:.

PING G430 MAX 10K Driver

Introduction

We’ve all been there: sitting on the couch at 12:15AM, watching infomercials on The Golf Channel, starting to think, “Maybe this is the miracle device that will turn me into a scratch golfer.”  But that little voice in the back of our head says, “Wait, does it really work?”

With this exact situation in mind, I decided to start writing this new series: Training Aids That Work .  I have had the opportunity to see and work with almost every training aid on the market, from $2 plastic gadgets to $25,000 launch monitors, and I know what works and what doesn’t from both personal and teaching experience.  In this series, I will bring you the best of the best training aids

The first training aid to get the Plugged In Golf seal of approval: Tour Tempo .

Tour Tempo (8)

What Problems Does It Address

  • Lack of distance
  • Lack of accuracy
  • Poor contact
  • Too many swing thoughts

How Does It Work

Tour Tempo is simply a series of tones that you match your swing to.  When you hear the first tone, start your backswing.  When you hear the second tone, start your downswing.  The third tone should naturally line up with impact.

There are a variety of speeds you can use; it’s the ratio that’s important.  The 3:1 ratio of backswing to downswing was discovered by John while watching video of PGA Tour players.  Since then, his findings have been validated by a Yale University study.

Tour Tempo (2)

Why Tour Tempo is a Plugged In Golf “Training Aid That Works”

There are so many things that I like about Tour Tempo that it’s hard to know where to begin.

First, it works on all elements of your game : driving, bunker play, chipping, putting, irons, pitching…if it involves a golf ball and a club, you can use Tour Tempo .  This alone makes it pretty unique in the world of training aids.

Second, it works for everyone .  I’ve used Tour Tempo with dozens and dozens of golfers and everyone has improved.  Whether it’s chronic slicers who want to hit the ball straight or high-end players looking to tighten up their putting stroke, Tour Tempo can help everybody.

While I could list another ten reasons, I’ll end with this: it’s cheap and it’s easy to use.  For $25, you can purchase the Tour Tempo Total Game app which has everything you need.  Once you make that purchase, if you have your phone, you have one of the best training aids available.

Hopefully by now you understand why Tour Tempo has been chosen to kick off PluggedInGolf’s Training Aids That Work series.  There is not a single golfer who should not have it.  Tour Tempo will not try to “change” your swing, nor it will not take days or weeks to see results: you will see improvement the very first time you take it to the range.  No matter what part of the game you struggle with, Tour Tempo can be part of the solution.

Slicing my irons is killing my game. The more I slice…the more mad I get = more sliced shots. Its killing me becuase it happens right when I’m having a great round.

' src=

My Driver/3-wood need it the most. I get too quick and it’s not pretty….

' src=

Driver Needs The MostWork.

' src=

I tend to get quick with the longer clubs. Driver, 3w and long irons. I think Tour Tempo could really help simplify things for me.

' src=

I bought the Tour Tempo app on the recommendation of a friend, and couldn’t be happier. Honestly, if you don’t win one with this competition, do yourself a favour and go out and buy it anyway. It has made a world of difference to my consistency. I’m really keen on getting the books as well as I’ve heard that they have some really good drills in there.

' src=

My hybrids, I’m making good contact but most of the time the ball goes left. I probably need some good ol range time with them

' src=

My wood game has so far existed without any recognizable timing mechanism. I either swing quick and hope the swing “contact points” come at the correct time, or I over-correct, resulting in a swing anywhere from awkward to downright lazy.

' src=

I have been always been told that I swing too fast. This would be a great tool for all of my clubs throughout the bag.

' src=

My irons tempo would really benefit from the Tour Tempo tones. As I have not been able to really play this year due to health issues, and I’ll be back on the course soon and the tones would/will really help me to “tighten up” my backswing, which has a tendacy to get a little long, leading to a hurried downswing as I try to “catch up,” resulting in a block :-(

This is a great contest, a great company that’s donating the prizes and these books & App are a GREAT prize!!!!

Thanx for running the contest Matt

My Best, Richard

' src=

Need to improve the contact. Hitting it thin.

' src=

My driver tempo is the worse!!! Whenever I grab that club I feel like I need to swing faster and harder. The rest of my clubs I have a nice smooth tempo…..

' src=

Congratulations to all the winners!

You will receive an email directly from Tour Tempo shortly.

Thanks for participating and keep an eye out for another contest next week.

That is fantastic! I just received the email and cannot wait to try it out and improve my game. Thank you!!

Thank you for the contest…I won! Although I don’t have an iphone, I did email back and received a reply immediately giving me the opportunity to purchase the app for my android for a drastically reduced price.

Thank you again and thanks to the Novosel family!

Thank you very much for the app. I can’t wait to try it out.

Great, thanks for sharing this blog. Thanks Again. Will read on…

' src=

Nice review is done for tour tempo…i have heard a lot about it. I have heard that Tour Tempo is the only golf training aid that has been validated by an independent scientific study.

' src=

I bought this book a while back but haven’t worked with the tracks in a while. I really need to get back into this as tempo is clearly a commonality amongst the games best players…

Tour Tempo Review: Can It Help My Game?

In our journey to get better at the game of golf, many of us explore all different kinds of options.  We sometimes buy that brand new flashy driver that will help us hit it further and more fairways. Or we buy that perfect looking putter that feels perfect.  Sometimes we turn to golf instruction for that secret tip or the system that will finally take us to the where we want to be.

tour tempo app

At the end of the day, every golfer would like to be more consistent.  By consistent, we mean hitting more quality shots more frequently. We all dream about standing on that first tee and striping one down the middle or as we walk down the 18th hole, sticking the approach shot from 155 yards and making the putt.

Let me introduce you to the Tour Tempo system.  It is unique in that it doesn’t talk about getting into certain swing positions or making certain movements in your swing and instead solely focuses on swinging in a 3 to 1 ratio.  This means 3 parts in the back swing to 1 part in the downswing. In the short game, Tour Tempo promotes a 2 to 1 ratio.

This means 2 parts in the backswing to 1 part in the downswing.

Below we will give our complete review of the Tour Tempo System.  Topics we will explore:

Take action, what are the different tour tempo options .

In John Novosel’s research of tempo in the game, he found that some golfers were swinging at a 27 to 9 ratio and thought this was the magic number.  In fact Tiger Woods swung at this tempo in 1997 during his Masters victory. John went on to study many different swings and found many golfers at a 24 to 8 tempo.

He then found additional golfers at the 21 to 7 ratio for tempo. What he found was that these were all in the 3 to 1 ratio format.

That the best golfers in the world, while they may have different speeds of their tempo, were all in that 3 to 1 ratio.  Even an Ernie Els, who appears to be long and slow, was at a 24 to 8 ratio. Fast forward to today and you will find golfers as quick as a n 18 to 6 ratio in golfers like Rickie Fowler.

The main takeaway here is that there are different speeds at which a golfer can swing, but the tempo is typically in that 3 to 1 ratio or somewhere between 2.8 to 1 and 3.2 to 1.

Check out some of the best players around and their tempos:

What about low and slow.

We have often heard the benefits of swinging low and slow.  I think if you tried to swing low and slow you might end up over 30 in your backswing.  In fact, one way to hit the ball further is to speed up your backswing.

You just might be surprised what takes place in your swing as far as distance and accuracy if you swing a bit faster.  This is due to having less time to try to manipulate everything in your swing. Get rid of all of those swing thoughts and give this app a chance. Trust me you won’t regret it. So let’s jump into what the app is like.

3 Golf Swing Tempo Myths

After learning about John Novosel’s research and watching some youtube videos, I was intrigued and decided I needed to test this app out.  I was tired of all of the swing information running through my head and the different positions I had been trying to hit.

I had taken a lesson and had a golf pro break down my swing via video.  He was trying to get me into certain positions in the backswing and it just wasn’t working. So I turned to this app and made the purchase. I started off by purchasing the Frame Counter app to help me determine where my swing was at.

This app is pretty neat and very easy to use. You simply record within the app and use the frame counter, which is simple. You identify the start, top and contact positions in your swing and it counts for you.

tour tempo app

I had determined that my swing was at 27 to 10 ratio.  I used the Total Game app to now use the tones to try out different tempos.  The 27 to 9 actually felt slow to me, so I progressed to the 24:8 tempo and it immediately started to help my swing.  I stopped thinking about positions and I was really hitting the ball solid.

After several weeks, I actually settled in at the 21:7 tempo and found this to me the most effective.  I stopped thinking about low and slow and started to simply focus on the 21:7 ratio and improved ball contact, accuracy and distance.

I know use this app when I feel my game starting to get away from me or if I am struggling.  I often find that my backswing gets too slow and I start to think too much and try to manipulate the swing.

Three Stories of Golfers We Used This System With

The first one was my Dad, he is a 60 plus year old golfer, who has lost some distance.  He immediately saw a 5-10 yard jump from increasing the speed of his backswing. He was getting too slow and his hands were becoming less active in his swing.  He was able to experience some quality results.

The second golfer is a friend of mine, who has a thousand swing thoughts every time he golfs.  This app helped him return to some simplicity in his game and still strike the ball more solid than before.  He utilizes this app when he feels he is moving back to all of these swing thoughts.

My story is that I continue to use the app on a regular basis and even more so when I am struggling.  Out on the course, I can hear the sounds from my training and I make sure to keep my backswing moving at a good pace.  It helps me reduce my swing thoughts and I simply focus on the shot I want to hit and keeping a quality tempo.

When the driver starts to get a little offline, I actually speed up my backswing and it gets me back on track.  This is different from the conventional wisdom, but it’s the true power of the tour tempo approach.

Overall Benefits of the Tour Tempo System

There are three major benefits that I have found:

  • It helps me get rid of too many swing thoughts.  I instead focus on the tempo and all of a sudden I start hitting the ball solid and further.  The elimination of swing thoughts is truly a great place to be in your golf game .
  • It helps me hit the ball further and straighter with the driver.  Too often we try to manipulate things in our golf swing. Using the tour tempo and getting on the right pace helps with hitting the ball straighter and most amateurs will pick up some distance.
  • Easy to Use – With today’s smartphones if you have your phone and some headphones, you can use this in many different places, from training on the course to the driving range.  It is always in your pocket and a quick reference when you are struggling. You don’t have to pay $100 for a lesson, but instead can tap right into this swing aid .

The system also provides tones for the short game, which can be helpful.  I more recently started using the short game tempos to keep my short game more simple.  It is working!

Tour Tempo – Can It Help My Game?

Yes, we are big fans of the Tour Tempo system and would give it a 10 out 10 rating. It truly is simple and can get you on track or back on track no matter where your game is currently at. Many golfers were former athletes that have it in them to play good golf. Using a system like this brings out the athletic motion that many of us have. Try it out today!

Which tempo is best?

You have to experiment with the different tempos to find your comfort level.  I would recommend starting at the 24:8 ratio and going from there. It might feel a bit fast at first, but you will be able to settle in and hit that ratio.  The 21:7 can feel really fast, but it is effective.

At the end of the day Tiger Woods has played at 27:9 and 21:7. Rickie Fowler plays at 21:7 and Freddie Couples at 24:8.  There isn’t one that is better than the other, as long as you find that 3:1 ratio or somewhere really close to 3:1.

Something I enjoy doing when watching golf at home is opening the frame counter app and seeing where the pros on tv are currently at with their tempo.  I find that the best shots have a 3:1 ratio and when a golfer snap hooks a shot or hits a poor shot, it is often due to tempo being off.

Why does it add distance?

In order to hit the ball further, you must swing faster.  Speeding up the backswing gets the club moving and your transition will often become better.  While the pros look smooth on television they are moving the club quickly. Swings often take less than one second.  We must get rid of the swing thought to swing long and slow. This only takes distance away from you!

What tempo should I use with putting?

You would use a 2:1 ratio.  The app has these short game ratios, which can be highly beneficial for your game!

Are you ready to take your game to the next level?  The Tour Tempo App and the Frame Counter App are two must have apps for your game.  Get rid of those bad swing thoughts and start to be more athletic.

Here at golfjourney365, the more we study the swing and the different teachings out there, the more we realize the importance of being athletic and using athletic motions and thoughts.  Stop trying to control everything in your swing and instead pick a target, see the shot and have good tempo.

I have found a combination of the following to truly work:

  • The teachings of Shawn Clement – He places a lot of focus on natural movements in the golf swing and allowing gravity to work.  He promotes picking a task and completing that task.
  • SuperSpeed Golf – In order to swing fast, we must train fast.  Our body and mind need to be able to feel swinging at 120 miles plus, which we can do with the swing training system by SuperSpeed Golf.  This simple to use process only takes 8-10 minutes per training session which takes place 3 days a week.
  • Tour Tempo App – Gets me focused on staying simple.

Here is a list of golf instructors that we have reviewed:

Introduction

Teaching pros agree that consistent tempo is an important aspect of the golf swing and a slow or erratic tempo which produces errant golf shots is something golfers of all levels should avoid.

Professional golfers regularly work their tempo, rhythm and timing, so why not you?

Mobile Golf Tempo   training aid  allows golfers to establish their best tempo, rhythm and timing in order to add length to their shots and achieve more consistency throughout their game!

By simply reacting to visual, audial or vibrational signals  delivered through your iPhone or Android device,  you can begin your backswing, start your downswing, and impact the golf ball at precisely the correct tempo and timing.  It’s just that simple!

There is even an optional additional tone for golfers who utilize a  swing trigger  (any kind of move that takes place just before golfers start their swing) in their game.

The vibrating mode is very convenient not to disturb the other golfers at the driving range. If you find that the vibration of your phone is not strong enough or is not practical, you can purchase Peterson BodyBeat Pulse Solo ™ . This rechargeable active clip-on device will transform all the audial signals from  the Mobile Golf Tempo App into vibration to silently convey the right tempo. Just connect the standard 3.5 mm stereo plug and feel the tempo! Please refer to our blog for more information.

Definitions

Tempo, rhythm and timing are not the same:

Tempo  refers to the speed of the swing (backswing and downswing until impact).

Rhythm  refers to the speed change during the various phases of the golf swing movement. The goal is to swing with grace. So avoid that your swing becomes a series of movements. Get the feeling smooth, not jerky. All the parts of your swing must work together in harmony.

Timing   is independent of rhythm and tempo; it refers to the succession of body and club movements, and that should happen in a proper sequence in order to deliver consistent results: hands → arms → shoulders/trunk → hips → legs → feet → feet → hips → shoulders/trunk → arms → hands.

The " Swing Ratio " refers to the ratio of the measured time in seconds it takes to make the backswing, to the measured time in seconds it takes to make the downswing until impact.

Unfortunately, everyone does not use these terms correctly. A swing ratio of 3:1 means the backswing is three times as long as the downswing. This swing ratio can vary across club selection or shot type. For example, many touring pros use a swing ratio of 3:1 for their driver with a ratio of 2.1:1 when making their putts.

Mobile Golf Tempo training app is an effective and easy way for the tempo of the pros to take root in your swing. Any and all-level golfers can sync perfect timing in their swing.

Historical overview of the theory

It seems that the first reference to the concept of tempo with the relationship in time between the backswing and the downswing appeared in the book “ The Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf ” by Joe Dante with Len Elliot, 1962 .

The following is an excerpt from the book:

“…We mentioned earlier that the rhythm in the swing of a good player is noticed because of the measured cadence in the upward and downward movement of the club. In his swing there appears to be— and there is— a definite relationship in time between his backswing and his downswing. It is measured in two parts, from the time the club leaves the ball until it stops at the top of the backswing, and from the time it starts to move again until it hits the ball. The club does have to stop at the top, of course, for the instant required to reverse its direction, whether we feel it or realize it or we don't. No object, not even a golf club, can be traveling in opposite directions at once. These two segments of the swing can be accurately timed by a motion-picture camera, by the simple process of counting the number of pictures the camera takes during each segment. Such a count shows that the backswing of a good player takes almost exactly twice as long as the downswing. This two-to-one ratio is the rhythm of the swing. The total time or tempo of the swing will vary with different good players, but the ratio or rhythm will not. Nor will it vary from club to club. The ratio will be the same for the 8 iron as it is for the driver. The tempo of the swing will not change, either, for the individual player. This is why the good player looks so good when he swings at the ball. There seems to be a definite, unhurried, relationship between the two parts of his swing. We sense it if we see him hit the ball only once, and it becomes more and more marked the oftener we see him swing.( He has established a definite rhythm and he sticks to it. In fact, one of the things he does when he goes to the practice tee before a round is re-establish his rhythm, so that he hits a 5 iron, for instance, at exactly the same speed, with exactly the same effort, with exactly the same tempo, each time he swings it, whether the shot is simple or difficult…”

In the summer of  2000 , John Novosel (“ Tour Tempo: Golf's Last Secret Finally Revealed ”, 2004 ) discovered a 3-to-1 ratio (noted as follows: 3.0:1) in the golf swings of the touring pro: they take 3 times as long to complete the backswing compared to the time it takes for the downswing. In doing so, John Novosel analyzed the swings of many tour players using video at 30 frames per second (1 frame = 1/30 sec). For example, he counted 21 frames for Ben Hogan’s backswing, and 7 frames for his downswing. He named this swing 21/7® which corresponds to a backswing of 0.70 sec (21 divided by 30), and a downswing of 0.23 sec (7 divided by 30).

For long game, John Novosel found that the majority of Tour Pros have the following tempos:

18/6 ®: backswing = 0.6 sec, downswing = 0.200 sec and tempo =  0.800  sec ( EXPLOSIVE )

21/7 ®: backswing = 0.7 sec, downswing = 0.233 sec and tempo =  0.933  sec ( VERY FAST )

24/8 ®: backswing = 0.8 sec, downswing = 0.266 sec and tempo =  1.067  sec ( FAST )

27/9 ®: backswing = 0.9 sec, downswing = 0.300 sec and tempo =  1.200  sec ( ANIMATED )

And serious amateurs should not swing with a tempo slower than

30/10 : backswing = 1 sec and downswing = 0.333 sec and tempo = 1.333 sec ( RELAX )

Casual golfers will find very difficult to match any of the Tour Pro tempos but they can start learning with following slower tempos while leveraging benefits of the 3:1 swing ratio (as well as anybody while drilling on fundamentals):

30/10 : backswing = 1.0 sec and downswing = 0.333 sec and tempo =  1.333  sec ( RELAX )

33/11 : backswing = 1.1 sec and downswing = 0.367 sec and tempo =  1.467  sec ( SLOW )

Unfortunately, analyzing videos with a frame rate as slow as 30 fps invariably induces errors (blur...) and John Novosel allows a 1 frame differential.

In 2005 , Dean McConnell from DXP Tech LLC has been using 60 fps video and has shown that many tour players have mostly a swing ratio between 2.25:1 and 3.25:1. In addition, for a given player, the swing ratio can vary depending on the club used (if the length of the backswing varies), but the downswing time always remains constant.

In November 2006 , Robert D. Grober and Jacek Cholewicki wrote a study entitled “ Towards a Biomechanical Understanding of Tempo in the Golf Swing. ” In an attempt to more thoroughly characterize tempo, they have performed measurements on a wide variety of golfers, from tour professionals to the average weekend golfer, using electronics embedded in the shaft of the golf club. They show that the average Pro ratio is centered at 3.0:1 and the relative insensitivity of tempo to the length of their swing or the type of club (they don’t mention but we can assume that it is only for long game).

If you want to measure yourself your friends’ tempo, you can read this interesting article: “ Measuring the Timing of the Golf Swing From Video. ”

Philosophy of Mobile Golf Tempo

Today it is widely accepted that the perfect theoretical swing ratio for long game is 3:1, even though some Tour Pros can play very well with another ratio as well as amateur golfers.

Mobile Golf Tempo has decided to let golfers choose the way that works best for them. They can change the swing ratio as well as varying it depending on the club and the type of shot (length of the backswing) even if it is not easy to memorize a swing ratio for every club.

But our advice is first to try the perfect theoretical swing ratio (3:1 for long game) and allow sufficient time to practice. If you are not at ease, try another ratio.

If you are unable to accelerate your backswing to be in accordance with the slow tempo (1.46 sec) and a swing ratio of 3:1, we suggest you practice with a swing ratio of 4:1 (still working with slow tempo) and gradually reduce it until you reach 3:1. Then you will be able to speed up your swing to have a Tour Pro tempo (animated or faster); your balls can only go further!

To be consistent you need to respect, among other things, YOUR swing ratio, preferably close to 3:1 for long game and 2.1:1 for short game. We suggest memorizing only those 2 swing ratios.

The majority of casual golfers swing much too slowly, we recommend you to swing with a tempo at least equal to 1.46 sec (corresponding to a slow tempo in the Mobile Golf Tempo Training App).

Human's reaction time

Mobile Golf Tempo Training app will emit audial or vibrational signals to tell you when you have to begin the backswing, start the downswing, and impact the golf ball.

The golfer cannot react instantly to those signals; there is always a delay. This delay is what scientists call human reaction time.

The human reaction time is the time that elapses between a stimulus (in our case an audial or vibrational signal) and the response to it.

Numerous factors can affect reaction time: age, sex (males do have a faster reaction time than females), pain, the training (the more you use Mobile Golf Tempo, the more reaction time decrease), fatigue, distraction, left- or right-handed, alcohol and other substances altering the concentration…

Typical reaction time is 0.15 to 0.30 seconds

But when you can predict the stimulus, the reaction time can decrease to 0.1 second.

The International Athletics Association Federations considers that an athlete has anticipated the gun when the reaction time is less than 0.1 seconds.

Coming back to the Mobile Golf Tempo Training app, this is why you can adjust the human’s reaction time in its setup screen.

When you select the option to allow an audial countdown before every swing, your brain will anticipate the tone and your reaction time will certainly be around 0.1 seconds.

In the opposite case, when you select the option to allow a random pause between your swings, and without countdown, the reaction time will be approximately 0.2 seconds or 0.25 seconds if you are a woman.

Therefore, Mobile Golf Tempo will add your reaction time before the first tone (takeaway) and move the second tone forward by the same reaction time to signal the beginning of the downswing. The third tone (the impact with the golf ball) stayed put since it is a timing target.

On the course

Thanks to Mobile Golf Tempo training app you succeed to ingrain a Tour Pro tempo, but how to check whether it changes during a friendly golf game?

You can either use the GolfSense app with a sensor attached to your glove or use the Suunto G6 watch that measures the movement of the wrist. The problem with the latter is that the swing ratio is expressed in percent and named Rhythm ( it indicates the duration of the downswing compared to the tempo). Mobile Golf tempo can convert it and you will notice that a 3:1 swing ratio is translated to 25%, 4:1 is translated to 20% and 2.1:1 is translated to 32.3%.

So, two things you need to check after a bad shot: the tempo and the swing ratio.

You will know, with the tempo value whether you need to speed up or slow down your swing speed in order to reach your tempo. Assuming your downswing is correct, the swing ratio will indicate whether you need to speed up or slow down your backswing in order to reach your swing ratio.

tour tempo app

Three Books,

Three revolutionary secrets..

TOUR TEMPO  started the revolution with its groundbreaking discoveries that shattered the paradigms on rhythm in the golf swing. But it also delivered the simple and effective Tour Tempo tones so golfers of all abilities could swing faster and employ the 3:1 ratio used by the greatest players of today and yesterday. The Result: Longer and Straighter shots… with less thinking!

TOUR TEMPO 2  continued the work of the original with a focus on the short game and a new ratio. The 2:1 ratio and the new Tour Tempo short game tones. The Result: wedge shots, chips and putts closer to (or in) the hole!

TOUR TEMPO FORCE  delivers the third secret by combining the tenets of Tour Tempo with the physics of harmonic oscillators and pendulums, explaining how you can optimize your long and short games by applying the proper force in the backswing and downswing. Specific drills are explained and demonstrated, plus for the first time in 10 years, we introduce new Tour Tempo tones. The Result: more focus and more speed!

I have been lnvolved in long drive and speed development for many years and I always try and work with the best. For me John Novosel Jr. is the best speed trainer on the planet and I have used his speed training tones, equipment and training routines for many years. His new Force feelings and tones add another level to his training and speed gains. If you are serious about getting faster and bringing maximum force to your swing he is the go to man.

I played men’s league and had some CAREER drives, several 300-320. Nearly all were in fairway. Until last month drives were in 270-280 range. Not only that—I shot a career best 30 (-6) for 9 holes. Four birdies, thanks to shorter irons/wedges off of the longer drives. And a chip in for eagle—from next to green on a par five, on a hole I usually can’t reach in two..! Just shows me what I suspected, that if I can gain ~20yds+ consistently it will help my scores a LOT. Already has. Needless to say we won our match. So, THANK YOU!!

Hi, John, I am sorry to keep flooding you with emails, but I am just so excited about your TT Force book. Wow! And I am only through two thirds of the book. I just finished the chapter about the case studies and the things required to enhance speed. I don’t do any of those things now! All four of the drills (e.g. the arms up drill) are places where I know that I am deficient. In six weeks (or whenever we get together) I will be much improved in all of them.

I have never seen any book that delves into long hitting as well as this book does. Hopefully, when we get together, you can fine tune, or even gross tune, my swing for some added pop. I will try to not keep alarming you with every revelation that I come across in Force.

Thanks for a great book. For what it’s worth, while I got a lot out of the initial part of the book, these latest couple of chapters have been eyeball popping. I can’t wait to get back to the book.

With 36 years of competitive amateur and professional golf, working with John and performing his drills was the most fun I’ve ever had with an instructor. With little or no more added effort I went from 255 to a 293 carry just after seven swings, and that was the real fun! His approach brought out the athleticism in my golf swing.

Has anyone used this Tour Tempo app? I purchased it yesterday (24.99 @ the Apple app store) because I have been spending a lot of time focusing on tempo over the last few months (without using an app) and have seen some very positive results. Now I want to speed up my tempo a little, while still keeping it smooth and thought some guidance from this app might make it a bit easier. Though I wanted it for my full swing, messing around a little yesterday, I realized my putting stroke is really slow, yet most who play with me would say I putt very well. When I tried to work at the slowest tempo the app supplies for putting I felt like I was using a full swing, Rickie Fowler, speed. Even the slowest putting tempo option on the app feels very fast. Yet, the full swing tempos recommended and supplied on the app seem reasonable, though I fall on the slow side there too. I always strive for a slow, melodic tempo to my swing and feel I have finally gotten it to that point more consistently, but evidently, according to Tour Tempo, it is probably a little too slow now. Funny thing is, I have increased lag and distance with my recently acquired, now consistently "slower" tempo. In any case, just wondering if anyone else here has had more extensive experience with the app and what you think of it.

I don't have the app but many years ago I bought the book which came with a DVD. Back then I had plenty of range time as I was 10 minutes from the course and would often practice at lunch time and after work. I played some of my best golf during the time I used the concept. I could really tell the difference in shots when I hit my tempo (24/8 if I recall) right on.

I have the book from years ago!!.. interesting read. Kinda forgot about the whole idea. L to L drill..

I used it and still have the old device. My problem was when I went from the range to the course. I couldn’t properly replicate the tempo without the tones.

I’ve had it for years, used it a lot at first, then kinda let it go by the wayside. Recently went back to using it in conjunction with speed training, found that my best speed session numbers came while using the tones. 18/6 gave me my best numbers, but 21/7 felt more comfortable, with a difference of less than one mph swing speed. Plan to work with the tones more in coming range sessions. For some reason, I never got along well with the short game tones.

I forgot I had this, I need to try it on the range next time I go.

I've been using it regularly since I purchased it a month and a half ago, both on the range and on the course. (I realize it is NOT within the rules to use in an official round, but I play a lot of solo/practice rounds at my club, so have been using it whenever I do.) It has made a huge difference in my game. My ballstriking is so much crisper and the ball just feels so much more dynamic coming off the club face. I am trying to work up to a faster tempo, but so far with my irons, the 27/9 works very well for me. With driver, some days I can work the 24/8 tempo really well with fabulous results, but I have been sticking with the 27/9 for irons, even so. The slower short game tempo works perfectly for me and I have it ingrained in my head from so much daily short game practice, so I no longer need or listen to the tones. My hope is to get more comfortable with the faster full-swing tempo and get those tones fully ingrained, before I have to play a tournament, or money-round, so I can play without needing the tones any longer and within the rules. At this stage, using it for all this practice work is like learning to ride a bike with training wheels. I believe, once the training wheels come off, my swing will be in the best shape it's been in for years. One observation I have made is that I keep swing thoughts out of the swing much easier now, by simply thinking about meeting the tempo tones. As a result, I swing more freely and rarely make conscious adjustments during the swing, which is usually the kiss of death. Any adjustments I make now all seem to be done subconsciously.

  • May 31, 2021

yesterday I was able to replicate my tempo without the tones. I left my air buds at home by mistake to go to the range. I hit it great for two hours. It’s refreshing because you don’t think swing thoughts. Just set up and go. Great tool for over thinkers like me.

And the different feel of the shot when you hit the tempo/ratio just right, no matter which you use, is remarkable!

I have forgotten all about my tour tempo app. Maybe I need to fire it back up again.

  • Apr 4, 2022

I don't have the app, but I copied the various tones over to my phone from the CD. I have never been as consistent as I was when I dedicated myself to using the 3:1 ratio (27:9 IIRC was my best fit). I really need to get back to it. I rarely hit the range anymore, and warm-ups before the round are limited as the range usually hasn't been set up by the time we are ready to tee off. I think I need to just work on swinging to the right tempo in the house or in the back yard.

I tried the tones and they drove me nuts because they wanted you to start the downswing AFTER the second tone, and the drummer in me wanted to go on the beat. However, the songs at the suggested tempos were a lot more helpful for me and I'd practice with them. They offer a few as free downloads on the Tour Tempo site if you want to try them out. https://www.tourtempo.com/tour-tempo-tracks-free-download/

Bought it years ago when it first came out. It works if you can get in sync with the speed that best fits you. Practice until you get those tones ingrained into your head. The proper tempo will improve your swing and contact.

With my new "swing the club back" move I'm tuning-in to the 24/8 long game ratio along with the 18/9 short game swing. Great app. Seriously, what's more important than the tempo of your swing?

First of all, it's Tour Rhythm. 3:1 is rhythm, not tempo. But the alliteration of Tour Tempo is a catchier name, so the marketing department prevailed over reality. I used to be a big 3:1 guy, but realized it was stifling my swing. Especially because the Tour Tempo rhythms are all whole numbers because he was counting whole frames of a video tape. 26.287/8.429, for example, is 3:1, too. What I ended up keying on is my tempo--the overall speed of the swing. I found that at the right tempo, the rhythm will be right too.

Agree it's rhythm that we're after and speeding up the back-swing is the way to get there.

My game got better when I focused on tempo and a song that I like that matches up. If I can get on the course and nothing is in my head but the song and target when I am swinging, it goes well. My song is intro to “Tin Cup Chalice” by Jimmy Buffett for 3:1

I tend to bounce between 24/8 or 21/7 when I'm hitting it well. It's nice to use on the range, but I find I can't actually hear contact because I have earbuds in, so I don't always know how I hit it. I'm not the best at doing things with just one earbud in, I get distracted by literally everything.

Tour Tempo Frame Counter Golf 4+

Analyze, compare & share swing.

Description.

Tour Tempo Frame Counter - Golf Swing Video Analysis - Analyze, Compare & Share It’s a proven fact that matching your tempo to that of the PGA Tour Pros with the internationally acclaimed Tour Tempo Tones is a way to instantly improve your golf swing. The first thing you need to do is find the current tempo ratio of your swing. The Tour Tempo Frame Counter App is the easiest and quickest way to do that, because it allows you to view and count sport action video, specifically the golf swing, by advancing the video one frame at a time. Once you have the tempo ratio of your swing, you then can compare it to the tempo ratio of your favorite PGA Tour Pro. To understand why you need the Tour Tempo Frame Counter App, it's important to know what Tour Tempo is: Tour Tempo is the name of the international best selling golf book that explained how amateur golfers could dramatically improve their ball striking – instantly, in most cases – by copying the tempo of the Tour Pros. It outlined the discovery of a specific mathematical ratio regarding the elapsed time of the backswing and the elapsed time of the downswing of the Tour Pros. By using this correct ratio, Tour Tempo allows you to learn how to correctly integrate the Tempo of the Tour Pros into your golf swing – both the Long Game and the Short Game. The Tour Tempo System is simple and easy to learn. All you do is react to three scientifically spaced musical notes. These musical notes alert you to start your takeaway, start your downswing, and then the third note lines you up with impact. It’s just that easy. It is used by beginners through Major Championship winners on the PGA Tour, and has been validated by an Independent Scientific Study by the Departments of Physics and Biomechanics at Yale University. Furthermore, the Titleist Performance Institute’s 3D research data accumulated from the swings of the Tour Pros also confirms the results of the Yale University study. And they also added that “Tour Tempo is the only golf training aid that has been validated by an independent scientific study.” "It will be the best thing that you will ever do for your game." - Pat Dempsey, 2002 RE/MAX World Long Drive Sr. Champion "You will get better right away! When you synch your swing to that of the Tour Pros with Tour Tempo, you’ll get better right now!" - Dan Rooney, PGA Teaching Professional "No one has ever come up with a way to teach Tempo until now." - Travel + Leisure Golf In order to improve your tempo, it is helpful to learn what your swing tempo is and have an easy way to track it as you go along. That’s where the Frame Counter App comes in. There are three important points in the swing used to determine tempo – the start of the takeaway, start of your downswing, and then when the clubhead arrives at impact. The Frame Counter App makes it easy to quickly determine your tempo on the range or on the course. (This app does not contain the Tour Tempo Tones - take a look at our Total Game App that contains the Tones If you are interested in learning more about the Tour Tempo Training system.) Find your Tour Tempo now with the Frame Counter app.

Version 1.3

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon. Optimized for latest iOS and bug fixes.

Ratings and Reviews

Needs improvement.

Great little tool but needs better capture quality. Maybe it's my iphone4s? Still good tool to have and understand. I recommend to capture with great lighting or on a nice clear day. Also it might work even better if u used a high speed digital camera and import from there. That way you get the 3 points of interest shown clearly. Also it would be nice if this app had some more features such as being able to do a side by side comparison with the tour pros or even a video library of the pros.

This app has an insane amount of potential

Really it’s already there other than you can’t move the screen around to fit the screen your self, -at least I haven’t found a way yet.(to me this is a big missing feature and why I chose 3 star instead of 4) It auto zooms in the video and you can’t zoom out, move left to right if you need too. If I am wrong please contact me how to if not please add this and the app is a 10/10 I’ll update my review.
So, not sure what to make of this theory and uploaded some video of my short game practice session. My coach videos our sessions, and we keep a running log on Edufii. During a right arm only session where I was hitting it very crisply, I found my tempo was a 20:10! Odd, as it was not my normal technique or tempo, but it was working and I wanted to check whether that super crisp session fit the theory. Will see if the full swing translates. There I'm like a 32:8 which is pretty far off.

Putting Tempo: The Rhythm of Better Putting

Putting is so simple yet so complex at the same time. One of the most important topics but not often discussed is the need for the right  putting tempo .

The right putting tempo will improve how the putter head moves and ensure good speed control from all distances. Because let’s face it, is there anything worse than when your first putt ends up way short or too long on a lag putt. Then you’re faced with a tough second putt and unfortunately a lot more total putts per round .

When you master the tempo of your putting stroke, your speed control will improve like never before. Today we’ll discuss a great drill, why most players fail with a consistent stroke, and how tempo can help you become a great putter.

Putting Tempo 101

In an old YouTube video called “Secrets of the Short Game” by Phil Mickelson he said that most amateurs do two things incorrectly with their putting stroke.

First, they take too long of a backstroke, which leads to deceleration and missing a lot of putts short. This is from inconsistent rhythm and altering their tempo based on the length of the putt. Second, they under-read putts 90% of the time which makes it nearly impossible to make a lot of mid and long range putts.

To make more from short range and make the hole feel like a bucket, you need acceleration with the right tempo.

Key Takeaways

  • Putting tempo plays a key role in getting putts to the hole and mastering distance control.
  • Short game tempo (including putting) is different from long game tempo and slightly faster.
  • Having the right tempo with your putter will help improve your strike, get the ball to the hole, and hopefully improve your confidence.

Keep reading to learn more about this important concept so you can make more putts than ever.

Putting Tempo

Short Game Tempo

So, what is the correct tempo for putting?

According to the book Tour Tempo 2, the short game tempo is 2:1.  This means the backswing for chips/pitches) is twice as fast as the downswing. For putting this means the backstroke is twice as fast as the forward stroke.

This is a big difference from a normal tempo on the full swing which is 3:1. This concept is discussed in detail in the original book,  Tour Tempo , and one of the best golf books you can read. When you master your tempo – with a driver, irons, and putter – your game will change.

So first things first, putting tempo is faster than a full swing.

Here’s the thing, great putters have the same tempo for all putts – whether they’re 5 or 50 feet. The only thing that changes for different length putts is the stroke length. Longer putts require longer strokes and shorter putts require shorter strokes.

But the tempo does not change. Unfortunately, most everyday golfers alter their tempo to try and putts of various lengths. This is one of the most common reasons why so many golfers struggle on the greens.

What’s the solution?

Measure your tempo with one of two golf apps to finally understand the perfect tempo and practice until it becomes habitual.

Here’s how…

Tour Tempo Review

Download Tour Tempo

Tour Tempo is a great book (as is the sequel) but the app is even better. This is a paid app in the App store but has different voices and tones to help you understand both long and short game tempo. Inside the app it’s easy to set the tempo to different speeds while maintaining the proper tempo for long or short game.

  • After downloading the app select the short game tab and choose voice or tones.
  • Then, select your speed (ex. 14/7, 18/9, 22/11) as some golfers are slower or faster than others.
  • Finally, use it in practice to develop a more consistent putting tempo. Plus, don’t forget to use it with your full swing too.

Please note that there are different speeds but all have the same tempo (2-1). Here’s how they described this concept in the book, Tour Tempo 2.

“Good putting tempo is invariable. If your optimal stroke is 18/9, you should time out at .90 seconds from takeaway to impact on every one of your putts. It doesn’t matter if the putt is a four-footer or a cross-country lag putt. The tempo stays the same.”

Use a Metronome

While I’m a big fan of Tour Tempo, it’s not the cheapest app. If you want to save money, opt for using a free metronome app instead. If you’re like a lot of people you might be thinking, what is a metronome anyway?

According to Wikipedia,  “A metronome is a device that produces an audible click or other sound at a regular interval that can be set by the user, typically in beats per minute (BPM). Metronomes may include synchronized visual motion. Musicians use the device to practice playing to a regular pulse.”

While these devices were originally used for music, they’re also an underrated golf accessory. Plus you don’t need to buy a physical metronome anymore as there are free apps that do the same thing for you.

Here’s how to use it to master your putting…

  • Download a metronome app on your device.
  • Then, test out different beats per minute to find what works best for you.
  • Most players will benefit from BPM that is between 85-110 but don’t be afraid to experiment.
  • Keep hitting putts in practice to test out speed control and find the BPM that is right for you.
  • Make sure to save that number and use the app in the future when working through putting drills.

Check out our favorite putting drills  here .

Putting Tempo Drill

To make a metronome even more effective this is a good putting drill from JJ Putting on  YouTube . Here’s how to get started…

  • Download the metronome app if you haven’t already.
  • Place three tees in the ground in a straight line like a ladder – each tee is about two feet apart (or slightly less). The further you separate the tees the longer you will hit the putt.
  • Set your phone or table with the app in front of the middle tee and grab three golf balls.
  • Putt next to the middle tee and play the metronome app between 85-110.
  • With each beat you want to try and hit it each tee for proper timing. Focus on speed more than anything else and adjust as needed.

Most golfers will feel this is quite fast but as you can match the beat with the tees and you’ll get your speed dialed in no time. The goal isn’t to try and make putts with this drill, simply dial in your tempo. Recreate this feeling without a ball then with golf balls to create a cluster of balls in nearly the same place on the putting green.

Putting Tips

FAQs About Mastering Your Putting Stroke

Do you have more questions about putting, developing a consistent tempo, and dialing in your speed control? If so, check out some of the most commonly asked questions and answers.

What is a 2-1 putting ratio?

A two to one putting ratio is the ideal tempo for putting. This means the backstroke is twice as fast as the forward stroke. This is different from the full swing which is 3-1 and why it’s so important to measure your tempo.

Click here to learn more about long game tempo now.

What is the PGA Tour average putting tempo?

As mentioned in the YouTube video above, most professionals average 100 BPM on a metronome. This is why they are so good with distance control, make more putts (especially short putts) and have a wildly consistent putting stroke.

Is tempo important in putting?

Yes, tempo is important from tee to green in golf.

The incorrect tempo on the greens can lead to speed issues which will have a big impact on reading greens. While incorrect tempo on the driving range and course can cause all sorts of ball striking issues as well.

What should I set my metronome to for putting?

Using a metronome is a great way to improve your putting. Set it between 85-110 bpm to find what works best for you.

While there is a preferred tempo, there isn’t a perfect speed as all golfers are slightly different. Keep your smart phone on the green near the golf ball you’re hitting so you can test out different speeds.

Lag Putting

How hard should you hit a putt?

One of my oldest coaches always said that a putt that is short has 0% chance of going in. He’s not wrong either – but the problem is that some golfers take this advice too literally and try to bang every putt in the hole.

Here’s the thing, the harder you hit a putt, the more you shrink the hole.

This is why you want to try and make putts with a dying pace as the hole will catch it more often. If you hit it too hard you’ll get a lot of burned edges and lip outs. The proper speed if you do miss is to get the ball past the hole by 12–18 inches.

Click  here  to learn more about mastering distance control on lag putts now.

How do you hit consistent putts?

Hitting putts with consistency comes from the proper ball position when putting , finding a putter that is suited for you, a good pre-shot routine, and the right tempo. A tempo and rhythm you can repeat with your eyes closed is truly one of the most important parts.

Half the battle is finding the right putter so don’t skimp on that part of the equation. Click  here  to learn how to choose the right putter.

My Experience

Ever since I read the book Tour Tempo and the followup, Tour Tempo 2 it’s had a big impact on my game. The second book is all about short game tempo which I never knew was different from long game tempo. Speeding up my tempo from inside 60 yards and on the greens has helped my strikes and overall consistency.

Ever since I read the book and downloaded the app I’ve shared it with my friends and fellow golf buddies too. I can’t tell you how many times I’ll play with guys who have a slow tempo which leads to a jabby, non-fluid putting stroke. Using the app and/or a metronome can help you dial in your putting tempo for more consistency on the greens.

If you’re going through a putting slump, work on your tempo more than anything else. I promise it can have a big effect on gaining more confidence on the greens.

Final Thoughts

Putting is one of the most important parts of the game but oftentimes the least discussed. But when you start to master your flat stick, everything in your game can change. Plus, there’s nothing worse than hitting the ball well all day only to miss putts and end up 3 putting all day.

To hit consistent putts and hopefully have fewer per round make sure to:

  • Record your putting stroke regularly.
  • Work on your tempo consistently for a solid strike.
  • Spend a lot of time practicing putts inside five feet.
  • Develop a pre-shot putting routine to putt more consistently and perform under pressure.

I’m confident that when you develop a 2-1 tempo, your putting will improve faster than ever. Plus when you add in a metronome into your practice routine you’ll be more consistent than ever.

This past Sunday I stumbled across (again) the Tour Tempo website. Basically they are promoting a method to train yourself to have a more tempo'd swing. Of course once you have that you'll strike the ball better with increased distance, accuracy, etc. Ok, I can use that. I thought the idea of using the app and listening to the tones might help my game in some measure. Sure couldn't hurt. The app is quite expensive as far as apps go. $25. I plan to get out tomorrow and give Tour Tempo a try. Have any of you guys tried it? Any success? Thoughts?

I have the app. Haven't used it in sometime but it does help to find a natural tempo. At least for me it did

:callaway-small:

I've got it, but I haven't used it. Somehow I managed to get the app for .99c, I think I was picked on another site.

With the clubs being put away for the winter, I might have to set it up in the phone again and hit the garage practice range.

:titelist-small:

I also meant to mention that I have a small Bluetooth headphone. I tried it last night out on the patio and it stayed on my head nicely swinging the club around. I'll report back how it all works out on the range tomorrow.

I went out a little while ago and tested the Tour Tempo on the practice tee. I like it. I started on the slowest 3 tone beat. At first I thought it might be a little fast just by listening to it and not swinging. I started hitting balls and soon decided to speed it up one notch. I felt like next tempo up from the slowest was best for me. And yes... I did hit many good shots. I think I'll continue working with it. I can defiantly see an improvement. I'll also have to admit at least for me this first go. It was slightly distracting but I felt like I quickly fell into a routine/rhythm with it. There are some other tones and relaxing sounds that the app produces. I'll experiment with those as I learn more about using it properly. Yes... I'd recommend it.

I use it from time to time. It's a great thing when you lose your tempo. I'll plop it and listen to it just to remember a good tempo even at home.

I bought the Tour Tempo actual unit, basically a small transistor radio with a earplug, because I am a Tyrannosaurus Rex and did not have a smartphone. It was a little difficult to setup, especially when wearing a jacket or a bulky pullover.   But once the audio gets to the ears, however this is achieved, it is really a good training aid.

When you focus on the beep, beep, beep instead of those maddening swing thoughts and all of the other clutter, some really nice swings can be produced.

Definitely worth a try.

True story...

Last week I was killing some time surfing the web and hit on the Tour Tempo website again. I already have the App on my phone but have only used it a few times. And only on the range practicing. As I looked around the TT site I got interested in their book. So I ordered it. Moving ahead to the weekend...

Last Saturday before I played in my usual game I decided to listen to the app while I warmed up. So I ran through my typical 30-40 minute routine of hitting short wedges, mid-iron, driver, and then off to the first tee. No practice putting this time. So how did I play? I shot two over 72! I haven't even been able to break 80 recently. I turned the front at 2-under. I knew this was shaping up to be a special day. And I thought about it. Big mistake. On the back-9 I boogied the first 4 holes. WTH!? I gathered myself some through the remaining holes eventually carding 4-over on the back.

After the round I got a few nice compliments and quite a few grumbles. I commented to a few guys that my Tempo felt so good during the round. A few guys said they noticed that I was swinging well. We were all correct. I was hitting most every shot solid in the face and longer than normal. Tempo.... Ahhhhhh.

Monday this week I received my Tour Tempo book. I've already read it. It's an easy and enjoyable read. The book also comes with a CD containing the various tones used for the training and several videos demonstrating the Y and L drills they recommend you practice. The take away from the book is that most of us... yes, you too; swing too slow. We should all work and practice to speed up our swings. The Tour Tempo swing is based on filming and counting the frames of 100's of tour pros past and present. They all swing with a 3:1 ratio. I'm pretty sure the other day when I shot my good round and was striking the ball well I was subconsciously following the tones I'd heard earlier while warming up. I'll practice again tomorrow evening and then play on Saturday. In between I'll practice at home. If you don't have the app I suggest you get it. The book is worth it as well. There just might be something to it.

EDIT: I meant to mention the Review that MGS Matt provided on the Blog a few years ago. Do a search on the blog and you'll find it. Very good.

Awesome round! I may have to try this during warming up next round.

I use the tour tempo app on every range session and if I'm playing a round by myself often I'll use it on the course as well. I don't find it distracting and it actually has the effect of clearing everything else out of my mind. Tempo ... sorry, consistent tempo... is one of the things I've struggled with most and the app has helped immensely. I have the book but haven't read it yet - might have to dust that off I think...

Kanoito

That thing definitely helps. I tried it for a couple of months last year during practice sessions. It was so easy to flush it.

:D

Maybe it's time to give it another try!

Some where else I read some user reviews of this product and one review struck me.  It was by a guy that is a musician and golfer.  He said that he felt that T.T. was a waste of money; that you could download a free metronome app and get the same thing.  He said the 3-1 timing is just basically 4-4 time in music and with the metronome app you could make it faster or slower to suit.  Haven't tried it, yet.

Putter:  Inazone Stand up

I tried using a metronome app and I couldn't get the timing right like the TT app.

I like the Tour Tempo. It's developed to not have a constant time between tones. There is a slight offset timing of the tones if you will. A metronome is constant beats either slower or faster. I can't explain it well but it's referred to in the Tour Tempo book. The app is a small price to pay for a quality and effective training device.

I practiced with TT last night at the range with good results.

Plaid, i bought the book with CD a few years ago. I recorded the TT tones on an MP3 player and went to the range. Overall, i have mixed feelings. I like the videos of the kid swinging, i like the L and Y drills and swings. But after trying TT awhile, i decided it was just too fast and out of control for my swing. Surprisingly so, since i swing driver 95-99 mph according to GolfTec. I decided to just relax and go with my own tempo, which is much slower. I even sometimes add a Matsuyama pause at the top. What i learned from TT is that tempo is a key swing component, and thinking about tempo during my swing produces a fuller turn and more power. I consider the TT experiment a success for me. Occasionally i go back and watch the video. That kid has a nice, easy swing.

I tried the tour tempo app a few years ago as well. I didn't really find that I got much out of it unfortunately.

It made my strikes noticeably worse when I first started using it. Getting used to starting a downswing on a beep and then have impact on another felt very foreign. Even once I got used to it I didn't feel like there was any noticeable improvement.

Interesting, I think I might have to give this a try. My tempo has been too jerky at times and it causes my lower half to get ahead of my upper body in turn causing sprays to the right. Guess I'm trying to kill the ball, I have to think Fred Couples and make a full turn on the back swing and get the timing right when returning. Wonder if there are cheaper apps like this...

I like it a lot and use it often in my practice. It helped the most with my pitching and chipping because sometimes I decelerate on it.

For the full swing it was tough to get used to the 3:1 ratio but worked when out well when I was able to dial in.

I highly recommend it and even the frame counter app is a free option that is worth checking out, even for the free swing analysis tool.

I've been reading this thread, along with one on another site, and have decided to give practicing with a metronome app a try.

With the app that I've downloaded, I can make a louder beep for the initial beep, and again for contact, with softer beeps in between.

Will try different clubs with different tempo's and see what happens!!
