Why you can trust Tom's Hardware Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

Who says mid-range laptops can't pack some power? Asus's TUF Gaming F15, equipped with a 12th gen Intel i7-12700H processor and one of the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards, may be a mid-range machine, but we found that this $1,499.99 laptop is ready to play the latest titles without any hiccups at 1080p. However, just because it houses powerful components doesn’t mean everything else, like the webcam, touchpad, and speakers are up to snuff.

Still, the Asus TUF Gaming F15 is one of the better choices for strong 1080p gaming among the endless sea of mid-range options. On top of its gaming capabilities, it excels at productivity tasks, meaning the laptop is one of the best gaming laptops under $1,500 .

Design of the Asus TUF Gaming F15

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 comes in a dark gray (or premiere white), meant to blend into any professional or casual environment, and it does. This iteration of the Gaming F15 sports minimized branding on the lid, which only includes a streamlined design of TUF shield at the center.

When you lift it open, there’s also a notch that houses the 720p webcam with which you can lift the lid. On the left side of the laptop, there is a port for the power adapter, an Ethernet port, an  HDMI 2.0 port, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, a 3.5 mm jack, one USB 3.2 Type-C port and a Thunderbolt 4 port. On the right side is a single USB 3.2 Type-A port.

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 measures at 13.94 x 9.88 x 0.78 inches and weighs 4.41 pounds. Competitors like the Acer Nitro 5 come in at 14.19 x 10.67 x 1.06 inches and 5.51 pounds. Alternatively, the Alienware x14 R1 is slightly lighter at 12.66 x 10.35 x 0.57 inches and 4.06 pounds. Then there’s the MSI Pulse GL66 , at 14.13 x 10.20 x 0.94 inches and 4.63 pounds.

Asus TUF Gaming F15 Specifications

Gaming and graphics on the asus tuf gaming f15.

We reviewed the Asus TUF Gaming F15 (2022) with an Intel Core i7-12700H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. The GPU has 6 GB of GDDR6 and a max graphics power of 140W, which explains how the Gaming F15 blows its competition out of the water when it comes to strong 1080p gaming. Competitors like Acer Nitro 5 (2022) and the Alienware x14 with RTX 3050 (4GB, DDR6) and 3060 (8GB, DDR5) cards, respectively.

When I played Hitman 3 (ultra settings, 1080p), everything ran smoothly and at a consistent 54 frames per second. As Agent 47, I efficiently assassinated foes and moved around the farmland of Colorado without any stutter. When I played Control (high settings, 1080p), I turned RTX settings to high and used DLSS to downscale the resolution to 720p. This maintained fluid gameplay at a consistent 56 fps while utilizing 99% of the GPU. Without DLSS, Control drops down to a jittery 30 fps.

On the Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark (1080p, highest settings), the Gaming F15 churned out 74 fps. Meanwhile, the MSI Pulse GL66 (with an RTX 3060) achieved 68 fps, followed by the Alienware x14 R1 (RTX 3060), which got 62 fps, and the Acer Nitro 5’s (RTX 3050) 52 fps.

During benchmarks for Grand Theft Auto V (1080p, very high) the Gaming F15 hit an impressive 90 fps, followed by the Pulse’s 83 fps, Alienware’s 70 fps, and Acer Nitro 5’s 61 fps.

On the Far Cry 6 (1080p, ultra) benchmark, the Gaming F15 reached 97 fps, this time followed by Alienware with 94 fps, the Pulse with 83 fps, and the Acer Nitro at 70 fps.

On the benchmark for Borderlands 3 (1080p, "badass" settings), the Gaming F15 outperformed once again with 65 fps. The Alienware and the Pulse were neck and neck with 54 and 52 fps, respectively.

Finally, during the   Red Dead Redemption 2 benchmark (1080p, medium), the Gaming F15 cleaned house with the most frames at 59 fps. The Pulse followed at 51 fps with the  Alienware at 48 fps.

On gaming laptops, we stress test by running the Metro Exodus benchmark on RTX settings 15 times, simulating about half an hour of gameplay. The title ran at an average of 67.85 frames per second with some fluctuations throughout.

During the stress test, CPU speeds came in at an average of 3.71 GHz on the performance cores and 2.77 GHz on the efficiency cores. The temperature of the chip averaged 78.7 degrees Celsius (173.66 Fahrenheit), the same as the GPU. The GPU ran at an average of 1,425.59 MHz.

Productivity Performance on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

We tested the Asus TUF Gaming F15 with an Intel Core i7-12500H with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. Although the laptop had little to no competition on the gaming front, competing laptops gave the Gaming F15 more of a challenge during productivity tests.

On Geekbench 5.4, the Gaming F15 earned an impressive single-core score of 1,781 and  multi-core score of 12,705. The Alienware x14 R1 (i7-12700H) followed up with a single-core of 1,471 and multi-core of 13,353. In the rear were the Acer Nitro 5 (i5-12500H) with a 1,452 single and 9,148 multi-core score and the MSI Pulse GL66 (i7-11800H) with a 1,579 and 6,949 core scores.

During our Handbrake test, the Gaming F15 was the fastest to transcode a 4K video to 1080p, at 4 minutes and 49 seconds. The Alienware was slightly behind at 5:04, followed by the Acer Nitro 5 at 5:58 and MSI Pulse GL66 at 8:30.

The Asus TUF Gaming F15  copied 25GB of test files at an average of 607.64MBps, the slowest of the bunch, the Acer was the fastest at 1,240.65 MBps, with the Alienware right behind at 1,156.07MBps. The Pulse GL66 is the slowest at 801.1MBps.

Display on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 sports a 15-inch FHD 1920 x 1080p display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 300 Hz refresh rate. Those specs sound solid for gaming, but you'll need to pay more money if you want the best-looking display. Still, this one does a decent job, especially among its competitors.

I fired up the Disney Plus app to watch the penultimate episode of Moon Knight and was impressed by the sharp image and its color accuracy. Despite initially seeing the episode in 4K on my TV, the show still looked fantastic via the laptop. The sterile white halls that our protagonists find themselves in are bright and vibrant, no doubt thanks to the display’s 324 nits of brightness. The only competing laptop with a brighter screen is the Alienware x14 R1 with 377 nits.

However, games like Control looked washed out and bland in lighter areas. Colors didn’t pop as much as I thought they should in lighter locations where rays of light bounce off every wall, although they captured the darker corridors of the office space well enough. I feel like HDR could have solved these lack of vibrancy issues, but it may have added significantly to the cost of the laptop.

The Gaming F15's panel covered 79.5% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 112% of the sRGB gamut. Meanwhile, the Alienware showed off 110% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 77.7% of the sRGB gamut. The Acer Nitro 5 and MSI Pulse GL66 offered lower results here overall.

Keyboard and Touchpad on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 has a full keyboard complete with a number pad. Along the top of the keyboard are dedicated keys for the volume, mute the microphone, and open Asus’ Armoury Crate app. Using the Fn key in conjunction with the function keys allows you to cycle through the keyboard’s three lighting effects, change between “performance” and “silent” operation modes and more.

I enjoyed typing on the Gaming F15’s keyboard, the keycaps felt pleasant to touch and the switches were responsive. I also enjoy the added flair of the RGB lighting behind the keys. There are even clear caps for the WASD keys, which is a thoughtful nod to PC players.

My usual score on the 10fastfingers.com typing test is 60 words per minute with a desktop keyboard, and my score only dropped to 51 words per minute on this keyboard with roughly the same accuracy.

On the other hand, I did not enjoy the trackpad. It takes more effort than it should to click. I also thought the dimensions of the trackpad (4 x 2 inches) itself to be a bit small and could have benefited from being bigger.

Audio on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

Although the Asus TUF Gaming F15 has a hi-res certification and Dolby Atmos capabilities, its dual speaker audio speaker is usable, but I'd like something stronger. There’s only a single speaker above the keyboard and another hidden in the bottom bezel of the display. You can hear well enough when it's nearby, even subtle things like someone's footsteps were audible enough as I was watching Moon Knight . But I’ve heard superior audio quality from other Atmos-enabled laptops, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon .

The speakers handled music better than I thought, but it was still lacking. I listened to “Keisha From Belly” by Panama Plus and it had decent clarity. However, the speakers were barely able to make kicks from the track audible.

Upgradeability on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

The Asus TUF Gaming F15’s bottom plate is held by 12 Torx screws. They came off easily enough, and I didn’t need to apply much pressure with my prying tool to get the plate off. I immediately noticed a black protective film covering the laptop’s two slotted DDR5 RAM sticks and its occupied SSD slot. Underneath the black film was silver film covering the SSD slot, and below the SSD was the 90 Whr battery. Battery Life on the TUF Gaming F15.

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 lasted for seven hours and thirty-five minutes on our battery test, which continuously browses the web, streams video, and runs OpenGL tests while connected to Wi-Fi with the screen set to 150 nits of brightness. The Acer Nitro 5 and Alienware x14 R1 tied at 5:33. The MSI Pulse GL66 barely lasted over 3 hours.

Heat on the TUF Gaming F15

I tested the Asus TUF Gaming F15 to see how hot to the touch it gets while running the Metro Exodus stress test. At the center of the keyboard, the laptop reached 49.5 Celsius (121.01 degrees Fahrenheit) and wasn’t too hot to touch or type comfortably. Although it was noticeable when the fan came on, it wasn’t extremely loud. The touchpad remained cooler at 28.8 Celsius (83.84 Fahrenheit) and the bottom, which is usually the hottest spot, measured the temperature as the keyboard.

Webcam on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

Despite the TUF's display's great color accuracy, the Asus TUF Gaming F15’s 720p webcam is quite the opposite. The bronze tone of my skin alongside the reds in my Gaming F15 chair was completely washed out. The wall and my air purifier in the background were grainy and it was hard to see any details from the latter, such as the branding on the front and the small holes in the grate. Use this in a pinch, but most people should consider one of the best webcams instead.

Software and Warranty on the Asus TUF Gaming F15

There are two preinstalled apps from Asus: Armoury Crate and MyAsus. Armoury Crate displays real-time stats of your CPU/GPU, how much memory and storage is being used, the fan speed, and the temperature of your device.

Meanwhile, MyAsus is a hub that allows users to run diagnostics, customize the keyboard backlight, choose power & performance settings, access AI-noise cancellation features, and more.

Other than that, there’s minimal Windows 11 bloatware installed, including Disney Plus and Spotify.

Asus sells the TUF Gaming F15 with a one-year warranty.

Asus TUF Gaming F15 Configurations

We reviewed the sole, $1,499.99 configuration of the Asus TUF Gaming F15 (FX507ZM-ES74) with an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It also features a 15-inch, 1920 x 1080 display with a 300 Hz refresh rate.

Bottom Line

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is a powerful 1080p gaming laptop with solid productivity performance. However, don’t expect your games to look as beautiful as they should. You’ll be able to game without a hiccup. While our colorimeter showed the display beating competitors, I still wished for something a bit nicer at this price.

While the webcam, touchpad, and speakers may be secondary concerns for some PC gamers, those who will use this as a productivity notebook may want to consider options other than the F15 because of it. The Gigabyte Aero 16 excels at productivity and can do some great 1080p gaming. It even has an OLED display for only a few extra hundred bucks than the Gaming F15. But for  $1,499, the Asus TUF Gaming F15 is a strong mid-range choice to enter the RTX 30 series club with.

Tech Junkie Review – Asus ROG Ally Z1 PC Gaming Portable

T here’s a new genre in the world of gaming. You have PC gaming, console gaming, portable gaming and now we have portable PC gaming. The Valve Steamdeck made the first big splash but now other companies are ready to compete too including well-known computer maker ASUS.

The ASUS ROG Ally Z1 is one of the newest portable PC gaming systems. It has a beautiful 7″ 1080p screen, a powerful enough processor and fantastic gaming controls. From the second you take this thing out of the box it feels like high-end gaming hardware. ASUS did a great job building a portable gaming unit that feels like something PC gamers would want to play. The gaming controls feel solid, the screen looks amazing and the expansion port on the top gives gamers the option of adding a beefier video card to use this with an external display.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention a well documented issue with the microSD card slot on the top of the Ally. Personally, I had zero issues using a microSD during my testing but many have reported problems. ASUS has acknowledged the issue and appears to be standing behind the product with both software updates and customer service.

I had a blast testing out the Ally. It’s definitely not plug and play like a Nintendo Switch. This thing runs Windows so you will need to install your games just like you would on a standard PC. This means downloading files or using one of the various gaming ecosystems. If you’re already a PC gamer this will be nothing new but for anyone expecting an “insert the disc” type of experience… you’ll be in for a surprise.

I also tested out the Xbox cloud gaming platform using my existing Xbox game pass and it worked great. While I understand how much some people love having games locally installed, cloud gaming is pretty cool too and having both options is even better. I logged into my account and my existing games were already there, no installs, no configuration, they just worked! Of course, this all requires a great wi-fi connection.

Overall – the ASUS ROG Ally is a super cool piece of gear for serious PC gamers who want to take their gaming on the go. It lets you take your Windows gaming experience with you. There are some early growing pains including that known microSD issue, a not-so-great battery life and a price tag that might shock some people. The ASUS ROG Ally starts at $600 (although it’s on sale starting at $400 right now!) and goes all the way up to $700 for the more powerful “Extreme” model.

Check out the ASUS Rog Ally on sale at Best Buy right now . You can also buy it directly from ASUS .

I interviewed Whitson Gordon with ASUS about the Ally and the future of portable PC gaming.

Productivity on the go: your guide to ASUS portable monitors

tour portable gamer asus

It’s not uncommon for people to rely on portable devices such as phones and laptops for a significant portion of their work and entertainment. While you can take these devices virtually anywhere, you might find yourself limited by working on only one screen. For many people, a single laptop screen is enough to get essential work done during short jaunts away from their home or office PC. If the majority of your work happens on the road, even the largest notebook screen can feel cramped. We understand your pain, and that’s why we offer a range of portable monitors that expand your screen space without weighing you down. We’ve assembled this handy portable monitor guide to help you create the ideal on-the-go workspace.

Whether you just need an extra screen to compare spreadsheets, or you’re a professional gamer in need of a second high-refresh display to go with your gaming laptop, we’ve got you covered. Read on to see which ASUS portable monitor is right for you.

For the digital nomad that can’t be weighed down

Anyone that’s gone from working on two large monitors to doing the same task on a laptop understands how limiting it can be. Referencing something from one document while writing in another can turn into a chore as you switch between them on your single screen. If you find yourself in this position more often than you’d like, then the ZenScreen MB16ACE might be precisely what you need.

tour portable gamer asus

The MB16ACE is a 15.6” Full HD IPS display that will effectively double your available 1080p workspace and kick your productivity back into high gear. You won’t need twice the bag space to carry around all this screen real estate, though. The precision-crafted, solid aluminum body measures just 8mm thin, so it can slip into virtually any laptop bag with ease. It weighs only 1.56lbs, making the ZenScreen MB16ACE the lightest portable monitor in its class. Comfort is always a concern when you’re staring at any display for long periods of time, which is why the MB16ACE is TUV Rheinland-certified for flicker-free operation, and configurable low blue light technology can help reduce eye strain.

The screen’s light weight is thanks in part to a newly redesigned Smart Case Lite, which is 35% lighter than its predecessor. Just like the original Smart Case, this featherweight protective cover pulls double duty as an adjustable stand that lets the ZenScreen sit in either portrait or landscape mode. In the event that you can’t use the Smart Case Lite, a handy smart pen hole in the bottom corner of the bezel allows you to set your viewing angle with the use of any pen or pencil you have nearby.

tour portable gamer asus

The last thing you want to clutter up your laptop bag is a series of bulky cables to connect your devices. The ZenScreen MB16ACE uses a single reversible USB Type-C port for both power and video, meaning you’ll only need a single cable for seamless operation. Don’t worry if your current notebook doesn’t have an available Type-C port. We’ve included a Type-C-to-A adapter that can be used alongside a DisplayPort driver to provide the same one-cable solution.

If your laptop’s screen just isn’t cutting it and you need to step up your productivity, then the ZenScreen MB16ACE is a perfect fit. With an ultra-durable thin body that’s the lightest in its class, you can double your laptop’s workspace without adding bulk to your bag. The ZenScreen MB16ACE is as affordable as it is stylish, with an MSRP of just $229 USD or $299 CAD .

For the traveler in need of a touchscreen

There are plenty of reasons why someone would need a portable touchscreen display. Whether you’re a digital artist that’s worked touch controls into their workflow, or you’re just looking for a way to play your Android games on something larger than your phone, a standard screen just won’t cut it.

The ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT gives you a 15.6” Full HD 10-point touchscreen panel that’s both TUV Rheinland-certified flicker-free and uses low blue light technology to reduce eye strain. It also features a built-in 7,800 mAh battery that makes it perfect for productivity on the go. Since a second display can put a strain on your laptop or phone’s battery, we added the battery so that the ZenScreen Touch can operate for up to four hours without additional power.

tour portable gamer asus

Like its smaller sibling, the ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT takes many of its visual cues from our ZenBook series. Concentric circles machined into the solid aluminum unibody and a mirrored ASUS logo coordinate perfectly with our premium laptop line. On the other side of the display, you’ll find razor-thin bezels along the top and sides that virtually disappear when you’re immersed in your work. A five-way navigation button at the bottom of the screen gives you quick access to the OSD, and the nearby smart pen hole lets you use an ordinary pen to keep the screen propped up without the case.

The included Smart Case is a soft cover that keeps the screen protected when you slide it into your laptop case or are simply carrying it with you. When it’s time to get down to business, you can fold back the cover to transform it into a portrait or landscape stand that props up the MB16AMT at a convenient viewing angle.

A single USB Type-C port is all that’s needed to supply both power and video to the ZenScreen Touch. This makes it a perfect companion for the latest laptops and compatible phones. The included USB Type-C-to-A adapter lets you connect to older laptops with the proper DisplayLink driver, and a single micro-HDMI port adds compatibility for nearly any other device.

tour portable gamer asus

If your phone has become your primary productivity device, you might not think it’s easy to expand your screen. The ZenScreen Touch app makes it simple, though. This app allows you to plug in any Android phone, such as our innovative ZenFone 6 , and seamlessly mirror the content on the portable display. Everything will be automatically scaled, and even your on-screen touch controls will work perfectly on the larger display. This can be great for editing Instagram photos with greater precision, or for playing competitive Android games like PUBG Mobile on a laptop-sized screen.

Whether you need a secondary screen with a built-in battery for extended remote work sessions, or you want a larger 15.6” display to complement your Android phone, the ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT has you covered. For $349 USD or $459 CAD , you can get a beautiful 1080p IPS portable touchscreen display with up to four hours of battery life.

For the serious gamer on the go

For some, playing video games is a way to unwind after a long day. For others, gaming is a more serious endeavor, even a profession. If you take your gaming seriously, we have the perfect portable monitor that will let you experience the joy of high-refresh gaming virtually anywhere.

The ROG Strix XG17 shatters any previous preconceptions of portable gaming. When you take your games on the road, you’re limited by the hardware you bring with you. Many gaming laptops still use traditional 60Hz panels, despite having components that are capable of pushing considerably higher frame rates. If you do have a laptop with a high-refresh panel, such as the 240Hz ROG Zephyrus G15 , you still only have a single screen to work with.

tour portable gamer asus

Whether you want to push your laptop past the limits of its built-in display, add an additional screen to your notebook for streaming, or even want to play your console outside of your home, the ROG Strix XG17 is going to up your game. This 17.3” Full HD IPS display has a refresh rate of 240Hz and a 3ms response time. That puts it on par with some of our best desktop gaming displays.

Some of the most competitive esports titles are optimized for high-refresh gaming, and the XG17 is precisely what you need to stay competitive in those games. If your laptop has a dedicated gaming GPU, there’s a good chance that you’re going to be able to take advantage of the XG17’s 240Hz panel. Even if your laptop isn’t cranking out 240 FPS at all times, VESA Adaptive-Sync support for compatible GPUs will keep your gameplay looking smooth by keeping both the display and GPU output in lockstep.

tour portable gamer asus

Like our other portable displays, the XG17AHPE comes with a Smart Cover that serves as both a protective barrier during travel and a sleek stand when it’s in use. If you want to position the screen like a more traditional monitor, the XG17AHP model includes our innovative Tripod stand. Just like on your desktop’s display, you can make adjustments to the height and tilt with a quick motion. For those times when you’re low on desk space, the Tripod is tall enough to position the XG17 directly above your laptop screen. When you’re done gaming, the Tripod folds up into an ultra-compact form that easily slips into any laptop bag.

Sometimes you want to game in a location without a power outlet nearby, so adding a second screen that pulls power from your notebook is the last thing you want to do. Our engineers understood this when designing the XG17, which is why they built in a 7,800 mAh battery that’s good enough for up to three solid hours of gaming at 240Hz without needing any juice from your laptop.

tour portable gamer asus

When you do need to pull power, you can the XG17’s two reversible USB-C ports to transfer power as well as audio and video signals. If you’re connecting to a console or a laptop without a Type-C port, you can also run audio and video to the micro-HDMI 2.0 port. Speaking of audio, we’ve included a pair of 1W speakers for those times when you’d rather not use your headset.

If you’re serious about your gaming and you spend a lot of time on the road, the ROG Strix XG17AHP is the display for you. With a 240Hz panel and a low 3ms response time, this portable monitor is going to provide the same high-refresh gaming experience that you’re used to at home without weighing you down. The XG17 is available for pre-order for $599 with the Tripod or $499 without.

For the creative professional jetsetter

If the first thing you look for in a monitor is its ability to reproduce color, then you’re in the right place. While all of the other portable displays we’ve shown you so far are great for both personal and professional use, our final selection is squarely aimed at professionals that value color accuracy above all else.

The ProArt PQ22UC is the most portable member of our ProArt family, but it performs just as well as its stationary brethren. Whether you’re working on-location for a shoot or grading footage in your hotel room, you’ll appreciate this beautiful 21.6” 4K OLED panel sitting next to your laptop of choice.

tour portable gamer asus

The ProArt PQ22UC is a wide-gamut display that covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space popular in today’s digital filmmaking world. If you work with HDR content, you’ll be happy to know that this display is HDR10, Hybrid Log-Gamma, and Dolby Vision ready with a bold contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.

Regardless of what type of content you’re working with, you can rest assured knowing that each PQ22UC is factory-calibrated to guarantee a Delta E of less than two. Our ASUS ProArt Calibration Technology lets you save your color profiles directly to the display, rather than the device it’s connected to. This ensures that even if you switch to another laptop or PC to continue editing, your colors will look identical.

The 3840×2160 resolution is perfect for editing 4K content without losing any of the details. You’ll still need a powerful notebook to edit high-resolution content. However, the best part about the ProArt PQ22UC is that you have the freedom to select any laptop with the exact hardware you need. Just plug in the PQ22UC, and your notebook transforms into a professional editing station.

tour portable gamer asus

The PQ22UC uses a pair of USB Type-C connectors to handle power and video signals. It also has a micro-HDMI port for compatibility with nearly any notebook. And just like our other portable displays, you’ll find a Smart Cover that will protect the screen from harm during transport, as well as act as a horizontal or landscape stand when it’s time to work. If you want more flexibility, you can also pull out the included detachable stand. The stand folds flat to fit inside any laptop bag and sets up in seconds to firmly hold the PQ22UC at nearly any angle or orientation without any tools.

The ProArt PQ22UC is the perfect portable companion for any professional editor’s bag. With the wide-gamut color range and factory calibration that’s vital for color accuracy, this 21.6” 4K OLED monitor gives you the freedom to edit your digital media anywhere. With a price tag of $3,999 USD , this portable display is ready for your professional projects.

Asus ZenBook Duo OLED gaming laptop

Asus ZenBook Duo (2024)

Intel core ultra 9 185h | intel arc graphics | 32gb lpddr5x | 2tb ssd | 14-inch oled | $1,700 | £2,000, our verdict.

The Asus Zenbook Duo OLED 2024 edition is a splendid machine, capable of things other laptops can't manage. It's just not a top-end gaming PC. Sorry.

  • Two screens on a laptop
  • Ultra 9 under the hood
  • Integrated graphics only
  • Limited appeal

PC Gamer's got your back Our experienced team dedicates many hours to every review, to really get to the heart of what matters most to you. Find out more about how we evaluate games and hardware.

Laptops, eh? We all know what they are. L-shaped things that open like an oyster to reveal the pearl of PC gaming (or just a web browser) within. Asus seems to have decided this isn't good enough, and has attempted to shake up the tired and complacent laptop world with a portable PC that has two screens, and impressive specs to go along with them (though no gaming GPU). And do you know what? It's excellent.

Excellent, that is, for a lot of things that we do with our PCs that have little to do with playing games on them. This is a $1,700 ( £2,000 ) laptop, and if your aim in life is to click on people's heads while watching the numbers go up, then it's maybe not the one for you.

There are many portable machines out there with AMD and Nvidia graphics chips and high refresh rate screens that are going to give you a better experience in games than this one.

But where the Zenbook Duo comes into its own is when you slap it on the table in a coffee shop or other MacBook-infested area and watch the thick-framed glasses drop from the faces of trainee architects and social media executives who've gathered around to see what you've got.

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 185H GPU: Intel Arc Graphics RAM: 32GB Storage: 2TB SSD Screen: 2x 14in 2880x1800 120Hz OLED Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 2x Thunderbolt 4, 1x HDMI 2.1, 3.5mm combo jack Dimensions: 31.35 x 21.79 x 1.46cm Weight: 1.65kg Price: $1,700 | £2,000

The Zenbook Duo really is extremely impressive. Open the lid, and it looks just like any other laptop, but slip the keyboard module out of the way (it hangs on through a combination of magnets and a dedicated connector) and you unveil a second OLED panel stashed beneath it. The keyboard remains connected via Bluetooth, and has its own charging port, allowing you to stand the two screens up like a book for two portrait screens, or use the stand on the back of the lower one to assemble them in a horizontal arrangement with one on top of the other.

The two screens are very definitely two discrete screens—there's no attempt to even pretend they can function as one—so in many ways it's like carrying a portable external monitor around with you, except you don't need to fiddle with cables. With the screens horizontal you can have office or creative apps on one and messaging and browsing on the other, or any combination you like. Having them in portrait means a  word processing document can go fullscreen alongside a scrolling social media site. They're still 14-inch laptop screens, however, so not huge.

What they are, however, is OLED panel, and that means they're bright and colourful, and they both have a decent resolution too. There's a stylus in the box for you to make use of their touchscreen capability, but there's no way to fold the screens back-to-back to create an ersatz tablet for drawing on.

As a productivity PC, the Asus Zenbook Duo is a huge success. As a gaming one it's less hard-hitting. The specs are fine, though the Ultra 9's integrated graphics hold it back a bit, but the fact is games don't use multiple screens well unless you're playing on a Nintendo DS. I'd love to see touchscreen PC ports of Hotel Dusk and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, but I don't think they're going to happen and one laptop isn't going to be the catalyst for that anyway.

The Ultra 9 is a Meteor Lake chip, and it has been blessed with a cornucopia of cores. You get six performance cores that can boost all the way up to 5.1GHz, backed by eight efficient cores and two of the new low-power 'Island' cores, for a total of 16. It's one of Intel's hottest laptop chips at the time of writing, and the one reviewed here comes with 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and a 2TB NVMe SSD. It's a machine that's engineered to be fast and exciting, and it manages that well... as long as it's not high gaming framerates you're after.

There's plenty of battery life too. In a test which involved setting the laptop to do an automated sequence of gaming tasks, with one screen on and set to 50% brightness, then locked in a cupboard until it was drained, the Zenbook Duo managed to last for just over two hours. This beats many dedicated gaming laptops but is a big drop from the battery life it's capable of when running office apps rather than playing games. In this scenario, it squeezed 12 hours of use out of the cells. Though this will drop if you start using both screens.

The integrated GPU cores of the Ultra 9 CPU are, of course, good enough to provide hardware acceleration in Adobe Lightroom or other pixel-processing apps, but they fall apart when subjected to the battery of gaming benchmarks this website likes to subject GPU silicon to, managing less than 3 fps in 1080p Ultra Cyberpunk 2077 with ray-tracing on, for example, though it rises to a moderately playable 28 fps if you drop the detail preset to Low and engage Intel's upscaling tech.

It's a similar story elsewhere. Can it play Metro Exodus? Yes it can! But only on the Low setting at 1080p. Horizon Zero Dawn? Well, you'll get a warning message saying it doesn't have enough VRAM, but you'll be able to play the game at 30 fps on the Original preset even if it can be a little stuttery at times. Hitman 3 fares better, hitting the dizzy heights of 42 fps in the Dartmoor level and 50 fps in Dubai with Ultra detail at 1080p, but Low texture quality (this wouldn't change) and a lot of other settings on Medium.

✅ The idea of plonking such a futuristic device on your desk appeals: The dual OLED screen majesty of the Zenbook Duo really is arresting and honestly, seriously appealing.

❌ You’re looking for a gaming machine: The integrated GPU performance of Intel's Meteor lake is pretty impressive as integrated goes, and generally sits on par with AMD's 780M, but it's still a lot of cash for integrated.

Position a less-demanding game like Final Fantasy XIV in a borderless window above and keep your work Teams app open below for the ultimate slacking-off machine by all means, and it will make short work of many games that don't rely on ray-tracing at 1080p, though in anything more demanding than Stardew Valley you may have to work your way down the visual settings tree to keep frame rates up.

Taken in comparison with the cheaper HP Omen Transcend 14 we reviewed recently, and you're talking about a device that comes with both a lovely 14-inch OLED screen, and a Meteor Lake chip paired with a discrete RTX 4060. Though obviously it only has one screen and a little less of the 'what the hell's that?!' wow factor of the Asus machine.

But the Zenbook Duo doesn't have a discrete GPU and never will, so while I adore this machine for its willingness to push past the laptop's stodgy design rut and do something different without going full Steam Deck, this is not the PC to buy if you want that Duo bit to mean a great office and great gaming machine.

Ori and The Will of the Wisps, jeu Xbox et PC, n'a jamais voulu reconnaître la manette et nous a forcés à jouer à la souris-clavier.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
