Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Beyoncé Announces Renaissance World Tour

The star’s first solo tour since 2016 will start May 10 in Stockholm.

Beyoncé smiles widely at the Grammys podium, wearing a black dress with a plunging neckline.

By Joe Coscarelli

For the first time since 2016 — a world before Beychella , Covid-19 and “Renaissance” — Beyoncé will headline a solo tour, the singer announced in a social media post on Wednesday.

Beginning on May 10 in Stockholm, and continuing in Europe through June before coming to North America, the Renaissance World Tour, in support of her seventh solo album, will run for at least 40 dates, largely in stadiums, according to dates posted to Beyoncé’s website . The tour includes one night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (July 29) and one at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (Sept. 2) amid stops in Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto, Atlanta, Phoenix and Miami.

Limited tickets for certain tour dates will go on sale beginning Monday for members of Beyoncé’s BeyHive fan club, followed by the staggered release of additional tickets by market, using a complex registration system for various tiers of buyer.

The tour, produced by Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and promoted by Live Nation, will use Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system , which aims to limit bots and professional scalpers, marking one of the first major tests for Ticketmaster since extraordinary demand for early tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour last year led to fan backlash and regulatory scrutiny . At a Senate Judiciary hearing last month spurred by the botched presale, artists, fans and politicians cast Live Nation Entertainment, the concert industry giant that owns Ticketmaster, as a monopoly that hinders competition and harms consumers.

Beyoncé’s shows will be the singer’s first live events available to the public since the On the Run II tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018, tied to the surprise release of a joint album, “Everything Is Love,” by the duo billed as the Carters. Beyoncé last toured alone behind her previous solo album, “Lemonade,” in 2016. Two years later, she headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

That show — which went on to be released as “Homecoming” (2019), a live album and concert film — was called “rich with history, potently political and visually grand” in a review by the New York Times critic Jon Caramanica. “By turns uproarious, rowdy, and lush. A gobsmacking marvel of choreography and musical direction.”

In the years since, Beyoncé has surfaced intermittently, including with songs like “Black Parade,” which won a Grammy Award for best R&B performance, and “Be Alive,” which appeared in the movie “King Richard” and was nominated for an Oscar. Last year, in a taped performance, Beyoncé performed the song at the 94th annual Academy Awards.

But the singer made a return to the pop mainstream in earnest with the July 2022 release of “Renaissance,” a dance-floor-oriented album that she said was inspired by the L.G.B.T.Q. community and has spawned hits like “Break My Soul” and “Cuff It.” At the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Beyoncé is nominated nine times , with a chance to become the most-awarded artist in history.

Upon its release, the singer called “Renaissance” part of a “three act project” that she recorded during the pandemic. “My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment,” she wrote of the album, which was billed as Act I. “A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom.”

Major music touring has largely recovered, especially at its highest levels, since the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the industry trade publication Pollstar , touring grossed a record-setting $6.28 billion last year, up more than 13 percent from 2019, due in part to pent-up fan demand, inflation and major acts like Bad Bunny, Elton John and Harry Styles.

In addition to Beyoncé’s shows, this year will see blockbuster tours from artists including Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Metallica, Morgan Wallen and Madonna.

Last month, Beyoncé proved more polarizing than usual when she headlined the grand opening of a luxury hotel in Dubai, performing for an invite-only collection of guests, including influencers and journalists.

While some fans decried the optics of taking a major payday in a place that criminalizes homosexuality — “Beyoncé’s Dubai performance isn’t just an affront to LGBTQ+ fans, but workers’ rights in the UAE,” The Guardian declared — others noted that the singer’s set list did not yet include songs from “Renaissance.”

An earlier version of this article misstated the year Beyoncé headlined Coachella. It was 2018, not 2016.

beyonce dubai performance

As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Check out the announcement and dates below.

Beyoncé: Renaissance World Tour review – a dizzying three-hour spectacular

Friends Arena, Stockholm Queen Bey’s first solo headline tour in seven years is a lavish leap forward for live entertainment, dripping with sci-fi disco decadence, sex and Black pride

E ven without Taylor Swift’s Ticketmaster-melting Eras Tour nipping at her heels, it wouldn’t do for a star as compulsively ambitious as Beyoncé to merely protect her status as the greatest pop show on Earth. Not when her first solo headline tour since 2016 could instead push 21st-century live entertainment another lavish leap forward.

Titled after the Texan’s disco glitter bomb post-pandemic party album of the same name , Renaissance is a monster blockbuster concert experience on a different plane. Fifty-seven stadium dates globally, starting in Stockholm, are projected to gross as much as £1.9bn ($2.4bn) by the time the tour ends in New Orleans late September. Dripping with sci-fi disco decadence, sex, body positivity and feminine Black pride, the near three-hour spectacular plays out in front, behind and, at times, inside a football-pitch-wide high-definition video screen designed to assault the senses at dizzying scale.

The BeyHive, as Beyoncé’s fans collectively style themselves, are buzzing pre-show as they flood into the venue from around the world for their first chance proper to see their queen live since 2018’s On the Run II co-headliner with Mr B, Jay-Z. Dressed head to toe in official tour merch, including a cap and hoodie both emblazoned with the word “THIQUE”, Mykwain Gainey has been to 20 Beyoncé shows over the past two decades and has spent nearly £2,000 to fly here from New York. “To see her transcend, and become what she has become, especially as a Black woman, is exciting,” he enthuses.

Beyoncé in Stockholm on Wednesday. With many of the show’s 36 songs abridged, the tempo was relentless.

Brazilian Yhes Bezerra wears a spangly cowboy hat like the one sported by Beyoncé in the tour poster, except theirs is homemade; sticking on the thousands of tiny mirror panels took nine hours. They were determined to come to the opening night to avoid social media spoilers about what to expect. “I want everything to be a surprise,” Bezerra smiles.

Beyoncé appears first in a video cut scene, laid out luxuriously across the giant screen semi-naked in dimensions big enough to be visible from space. And yet, once she emerges in the flesh – all sequins, shoulder pads and that megawatt smile, drinking in the crowd’s screams – she begins disarmingly with a slew of her rawest soul songs. By the second, Flaws and All, she already appears to be fighting back tears, whether of release or gratitude or both. It’s an opening that seems designed to strip away artifice, if only to provide some sharp contrast for the heavily technologically augmented spectacle about to follow.

Harking back to early house and techno and the ecstatic utopia of the dancefloor, a segment dedicated to the Renaissance album ensues with Beyoncé done up something akin to the Maschinenmensch in Metropolis. She grinds with a dozen backing dancers to the jittery reggaeton of her boss bitch mission statement I’m That Girl, then dances with some actual robots (a pair of mechanical arms) during Cosy. Were all that not semi-hallucinogenic enough, Alien Superstar interpolates narcissistic anthem I’m Too Sexy by 90s dance-pop twosome Right Said Fred.

Beyoncé performing on Wednesday

With many of the setlist’s whopping 36 songs abridged, the tempo is relentless. Blink and you’ll miss dancers popping out of the stage like champagne corks, or Beyoncé’s powerhouse band getting wheeled into occasional view on a tall stepped riser (shades of Beychella), such as during Chic-style feelgood funk workout Cuff It. “Y’all having a good time, Stockholm?” our host inquires, wiping an imperceptible bead of sweat from her brow. “Me too.”

Black Parade finds Beyoncé cruising the stage atop what looks like a kind of lunar rover. Somewhat comically, it exits up the gusset of a pair of massive splayed legs. Later she sings Plastic Off the Sofa stretched out in a clamshell. Come Crazy in Love, the show finally gets the enormous disco ball it seems to have long craved, dangled from the rafters for only a bit longer than the time it takes for the crew to get it up there and back down.

Bass-quaking, envelope-pushing Black power anthem Formation is a powerful political statement in any setting. Performed in a kind of virtual cathedral, horny southern rap and gospel cocktail Church Girl (sample lyric: “drop it like a thottie, drop it like a thottie”) might just be intended to provoke. But by Beyoncé’s own standards, it’s hard not to read Renaissance as a show much lighter on overt socio-political messaging than it is sheer, unfettered, mildly chaotic indulgence. And who could blame her?

In a final, unsubtle, retro-futuristic fanfare, Bey summons Bianca Jagger’s iconic Studio 54 moment by gliding through the air on a glitter-encrusted white horse while Summer Renaissance – which samples Donna Summer’s I Feel Love – blares. The disco history references may or may not be landing with the mostly young BeyHive, but that’s not really the point. By rewiring dance music past in a sensory overload of truly stunning ambition and stamina, Beyoncé is writing some history of her own.

Everything to Know About Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour

Atlantis The Royal Grand Reveal Weekend 2023 - Beyonce Performance

B eyoncé’s fans have been waiting for this day: the pop megastar finally announced that she will embark on the long-awaited Renaissance World Tour. She uploaded a post to Instagram early Wednesday morning with the caption: “RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR 2023,” and her official website has been updated to show the tour dates. The tour starts in May in Sweden and will hit Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Poland, before she makes her way to North America. The first date stateside will be in Philadelphia, Pa., in July and the tour will hit the major U.S. cities before wrapping up in New Orleans, La., on Sept. 27.

Following the release of her seventh album, Renaissance , in July, fans have been itching for a tour announcement, in addition to music videos to accompany the songs. Beyoncé’s last solo tour was the Formation World Tour back in 2016 to support her sixth album, Lemonade . Following that, she went on the On The Run Tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018 after releasing their joint project, Everything Is Love . The announcement of a new tour just before the Grammy Awards on Sunday raises suspicion that Beyoncé might be performing or, at the very least, attending the night’s festivities.

The singer is nominated for nine Grammys at this year’s awards ceremony, which are set to take place on Feb. 5 in Los Angeles. This year, she is up against Adele for multiple awards, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. There has been speculation about whether or not Beyoncé would be performing ever since the nominations were announced. The last time fans saw her perform on a major televised stage was at last year’s Oscars ceremony, where she performed “Be Alive” from the King Richard movie for the first time.

Beyoncé most recently took the stage for a private concert at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal resort in Dubai in January. However, she did not perform any songs from Renaissance . Also, given that Beyoncé unveiled the album’s title on Instagram as “act [one],” her dedicated fanbase has been busy theorizing what acts two and three might be. Some have hypothesized that the tour would be act two and then a concert movie would be act three. Others have ventured to guess that this is a three-part album and that Renaissance was just the beginning.

Tickets for the concert will not be an easy get if Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is any indication. Beyoncé’s fans can click on the date they would like to attend to register for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program and will then have to wait to see if they are given an access code to purchase tickets to the event. With Verified Fan and the “unexpected” traffic the pre-sale brought to the site, many Swifties likened the ticket-buying process to a warzone. The disastrous rollout drew ire from Swift’s fans and political officials alike. After the ticketing fiasco, the Senate held a hearing to look into whether Live Nation and Ticketmaster have a monopoly over the ticketing industry. This, coupled with the technical problems that Swift fans faced, have Beyoncé fans worrying that finding their way to an actual concert will be nothing short of an ordeal.

Chris Brown Announces 2024 11:11 Tour With Arya Starr & Muni Long: Here Are the Dates

See latest videos, charts and news

The announcement photo may look familiar to fans, as she donned the same glittery attire on the cover of her seventh studio album. Bey also added “Renaissance World Tour” on her Instagram bio, further accenting the news. Last week, Beyonce performed a full concert for the first time in four years at a luxury resort in Dubai in front of influencers and journalists. The 19-song set included a collaboration with her oldest daughter Blue Ivy as the two performed “Brown Skin Girl,” which earned them a Grammy two years ago for best music video.

Crowned a triumphant win by music lovers, Renaissance stormed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last year and rattled off two Hot 100 top 10 hits, including her chart-topper “Break My Soul.” The dance-centric album also notched nine Grammy nominations, the most for any nominee for this year’s ceremony. Bey is looking to rack up more trophy wins, as she currently sits at a staggering 28 wins. Nominated for album of the year, song, and record of the year, Bey is facing some stout competition , especially in the former. The R&B juggernaut will tango against Adele, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, and more for album of the year. A win in this category would serve as Beyonce’s first. The 65th Grammy Awards will occur Sunday night in Los Angeles at 8 pm EST.

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

Beyoncé Announces ‘Renaissance’ 2023 World Tour

Another Ticketmaster war is on the horizon as the BeyHive prepares for battle. After weeks of speculation, Beyoncé has officially confirmed a world tour in support of Renaissance , scheduled to make stops in stadiums across the world in 2023 .

The musician confirmed the news on Wednesday morning. The tour will begin in Europe this May before landing in North America on July 8 with back-to-back nights at Toronto’s Rogers Centre. The tour will make stops in Philadelphia, Nashville, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and more.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

The Renaissance tour marks Beyoncé’s first extended stretch on the road since the On the Run tour, which made 48 stops across North America and Europe in 2018. Those shows were proceeded by the singer’s redefining Coachella performance, which arrived as the Netflix concert film Homecoming the following year.

The clips sparked multiple viral moments, the most notable being Beyoncé’s new vocal arrangements on familiar records, including “Drunk in Love” and “Countdown.” The private concert, notably, did not include any Renaissance tracks on the setlist, even the chart-topping lead single “Break My Soul.”

The tour announcement arrives as a saving grace for a starved BeyHive, still yearning for any meaningful visual companion pieces to the singer’s acclaimed seventh studio album. If Beyoncé is heading on the road again, maybe the wait for the music videos she teased in the record release trailer won’t be too much longer.

“As is customary for her, she layers the album with enough totems to fuel a million think pieces and dissertations,” Rolling Stone shared of Renaissance . “Yet it’s also possible to simply dance and vibe to the music. This is Beyoncé at her joyous peak, and you won’t get it unless you pull the “plastic off the sofa,” “drop it like a thottie,” and enjoy Queen Bey at her thrilling best.”

It's Queen Bey: Beyoncé's 'Renaissance' Tour Movie Hits Theaters With 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score

Posted: March 4, 2024 | Last updated: March 4, 2024

<p>“I’m really excited for everyone to see the process,” she expressed in the film.</p>

In her concert film, Beyoncé described her recent Renaissance World Tour as being run like a machine, where she played a hands-on role in every production aspect, from lighting to set design. This superstar singer’s dedication to excellence drove her to work tirelessly for nearly 50 consecutive days, all in pursuit of crafting an extraordinary concert experience. These insights are vividly captured in her film, “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” a project for which she assumed the roles of writer, director, and producer.

Unlike her past decade of privacy and rare interviews, this film offers a unique peek into Beyoncé’s world. She released the nearly three-hour “Renaissance” movie through AMC Theaters, following a similar approach to Taylor Swift’s recent concert film success. However, Beyoncé diverged by delving deeper into her personal life, providing viewers with a more intimate understanding of her journey.

“I’m really excited for everyone to see the process,” she expressed in the film.

Despite the obstacles, the tour ultimately grossed around $500 million, according to Billboard. She candidly discusses her knee surgery, which necessitated rehabilitation just a month before her first show in Stockholm.

Yet, Beyoncé emphasizes that she’s “not a machine.” Despite her physical and emotional challenges, she not only showed up but performed at an exceptionally high level, a standard she expected of herself and those who shared her commitment to making each show a success.

<p>The film also highlights some notable guest appearances during Beyoncé’s performances, including Megan Thee Stallion in Houston, Kendrick Lamar in Los Angeles, and Diana Ross, who serenaded Beyoncé for her 42nd birthday. Blue Ivy’s growth brought joy not only to Beyoncé but also to Mathew Knowles, her proud grandfather, who affectionately exclaimed, “Now, that’s a Knowles!”

<p>The film also captures a poignant moment when Beyoncé and her mother, Tina Knowles, revisit her childhood home during a stop in Houston. Taylor Swift's and Beyoncé's concert films helped boost AMC's revenue

taylor swift beyonce eras tour

Taylor Swift's and Beyoncé's concert films topped box office charts and helped bring the masses back to the big screen — so much so that they drove the majority of AMC Theatres' revenue increase last fall, the company said.

Total revenue for AMC Theatres grew more than $1.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023, AMC Entertainment Holdings said in a news release, compared to around $990 million the year before.

Its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (a value referred to EBITDA) also nearly tripled to $42.5 million last quarter, as opposed to $14.5 million for the last quarter of 2022.

Fans arrive at the world premiere of the concert film "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour"

AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron said in an earnings webcast Wednesday that the theater chain's role as the distributor for both “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” and “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” played a key role in upping those numbers.

"Literally all of that increase in AMC’s revenue and EBITDA is attributable to our having shown these two movies in our theaters in the U.S. and internationally,” Aron said.

He added that the two concert films alone outgrossed "all of what was offered theatrically" last quarter by competitors such as Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures and Lionsgate.

"This is a stunning result given that neither of these films were on anyone’s drawing board until midyear and that they were the first movies ever distributed by AMC in our entire 103-year history," Aron said. "What a triumph for our company."

amc head

Swift's movie became the highest-grossing domestic concert film of all time after its opening weekend in October, not long before Beyoncé dominated the box office with her own subsequent release. The excitement around the films was palpable as moviegoers decked out in themed outfits and turned theaters into concert venues .

Also in Wednesday’s call, AMC Theatres said it would introduce new versions of its famous pre-show commercial featuring Nicole Kidman, a campaign Aron described as having taken on a “cultlike nature.”

Starting Friday, AMC will debut the first of three 30-second versions of the pre-show advertisement, which will play on a rotating basis as they are rolled out in the coming months.

“These spots are never-before-seen-in-theatres versions of the original, iconic ad,” an AMC Theatres spokesperson said in an email.

Despite major successes in 2023, Aron said the year didn't live up to its full potential. The domestic box office had just seemed likely to return to pre-pandemic levels by last summer, he said, when labor action delayed new releases in Hollywood as writers and actors went on strike against the major production studios.

Still, the momentum generated by hits such as "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer," as well as this year's "Mean Girls" remake and Friday's theatrical release of "Dune: Part Two," points to a positive trajectory for movie theaters this year.

The buzz around recent and coming blockbusters — especially as theaters advertise exclusive merchandise and collectible popcorn buckets — has already revitalized the moviegoing experience for audiences across the country.

"Clearly, moviegoers flock to theaters when Hollywood releases films in quantity and in quality," Aron said.

Skeptics Believe Tina Knowles Is Lying About Beyoncé Not Wearing a Wig In Resurfaced Commercial — Here’s Eight Times Beyoncé Wore Her Natural Hair

Outside of Beyoncé’s iconic voice, beautiful face, banging body and stacked bank account, one of the most talked about features of the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer is her luxurious hair. For years people have wondered if her long blond tresses are solely hers or if she adds extensions and wigs to achieve her looks.

Tina Knowles, Bey’s mom and a former hairstylist and salon owner, never minds setting the record straight regarding her daughter.

In an Instagram post on March 1, Knowles posted a 2010 clip of her daughter from the Nickelodeon Kid Choice Awards drawing attention to her daughter’s mid-back hair length. She captioned the post, “Just came across this on ig Love this commercial, And I loved Beyoncé’s hair on here ! Yes it is all her hair !!!!!!”

A few people in the comments were not buying it. “May not be a wig,” one person wrote. “But them sure do look like extensions in the b[ac]k.”

“I dnt believe it she better show us her roots,” another user wrote in disbelief, followed by a third person that said “We know Beyoncé got hair for real ! But this right here is a wig.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tina Knowles (@mstinaknowles)

The Beyhive was fast with the buzz-in, stinging any notion that Mama Tina was lying about her oldest daughter.

One person jumped in the mother’s comment section and said, “So wait… every day women on this app can have long hair under their wigs and weaves, but its so unbelievably that a billionaire with creole roots and a child of a stylist is where yall draw the line!”

“All the edgeless girls can’t believe Beyoncé has always had long hair,” someone else chimed in. “Them thinking her hair is not long but her mother having naturally long hair kills me every time,” another observer stated.

People are always gaga about Queen Bey’s looks, opting to see her real hair over the wigs she sometimes wears to achieve a specific look — like the mullet, she sported in a recent high fashion spread.

The 32-time Grammy winner and her mom were featured in a CR Fashion Book photo shoot where she sported two funky asymmetrical looks.

“Hate it !!!! Beyoncé is not a fashion girl !!!” one Instagram user said . “She cannot do daring looks at all she just a basic glam girl and that’s ok just stick to your lane … she looks a mess.”

Others who have been following her moves and are anxiously anticipating the sale of her new Cécred hairline want her to skip the editorials and promote the new brand, including one who demanded, “I want to see her real hair being washed with these products,” as another said, “Where’s her REAL hair? How u promoting a hair line with wigs on?”

Since the 1990s, fans have watched the former Destiny’s Child artist switch from rocking micro and individual braids to lace fronts to extensions and everything in between.

Here are a few times the Houston native slayed the Yoncéverse with au natural looks.

Beyoncé Keeps It Natural at the Roc Nation Brunch Party – 2023

Beyoncé’s longtime hairstylist Neal Farinah shared a photo of her look from the annual Grammy Week celebration. Sometimes the queen has to make a statement, therefore she went with a wet and wavy natural look that says “Look at me!” while rocking a futuristic white and silver ensemble.

Bey Teases Hair Care Line with Tight Blonde Curls – 2023

Last May, the “Renaissance” singer soft launched her hair care line with a post of her styling her hair at a vanity with little sample bottles lined up in front of her. She appears to use a curling iron to create spiral curls on her own hair, giving herself a more defined and textured curl look.

She had blond hair and highlights in the first image but the second image was a childhood photo of Bey getting her hair dark brown hair braided and curled at her mother’s salon.

“How many of y’all knew my first job was sweeping hair in my mama’s salon? Destiny’s Child got our start by performing for clients while they were getting their hair done,” Beyoncé wrote in an attached letter. She concluded by sharing that she always “dreamed of carrying” on her mother’s legacy.

Yonce Rocks Her Natural Bone Straight Hair – 2019

In this clip, Beyoncé tells her mom she is being “annoying” as she brags about her daughter’s hair while combing through her bone-straight tresses. “Oh natural as Neal would say,” said Mama Tina. Bey replied, “Mama that’s really annoying, I mean very annoying.”

Neal wrote the caption in all caps, which states, “What weave what wig. Yes yes all natural @mstinalawson @beyonce let them know. Say what Black girls got hair.”

Beyoncé Serves Up Another Curly Natural Hair Look – 2019

Neal also shared a photo of the “Single Ladies” singer with big curly hair. “Its hers. But i think they added just a few pieces for volume. Either way she has always had gorgeous full hair! And may have to take this hairstyle love mr some bey,” wrote one commentator. “Don’t touch my hair,” wrote another referring to the 2016 hit single from Bey’s younger sister, Solange .

Beyoncé Shows Off Her Natural ‘Kinky’ ‘Edges – 2018

Farinah can’t seem to do any wrong, noting his gift is from God. “The bless hands,” he captioned a profile shot of Bey that shows a close-up of her natural edges as he styles her hair into a half-up half-down hairstyle. She recorded him carefully slaying her edges in another post, which features song lyrics from her 2014 track “7/11.”

“Ooh, wee BB freaky deaky, think me see she pink bikini Rock that kufi, dye dashiki, Nefertiti, edges kinky,” Bey wrote .

Beyoncé Wears Her Naturally Curly Hair on Tour – 2018

Farinah also styled Bey’s hair during her second “On the Run” tour when she appeared in Rome. “Say what naturally curly hair OTRII Rome,” he captioned a photo of him behind Beyoncé, who can be seen sitting in a chair with her hair in another wavy look.

“Chile that’s her hair. You can tell by her ends. Folks so insecure. It’s not that deep,” wrote one person in the comments.

Many agreed that the wavy look complemented her “beautiful and healthy” hair, though one person suggested that Neal’s captions make people question if it’s really hers.

“I don’t understand why when he post pictures of Beyoncé natural hair why can’t he just say ‘this is her real hair.’ The way he words his captions makes people think it is or isn’t all of her real hair. It’s confusing. If it is just simply say ‘this is her real hair’ then it’ll end all of these comments,” one complaint said.

Beyoncé Shows Off Her Inches After Bob Cut – 2017

The singer known for rocking her long hair abandoned her signature look for a short curly bob cut back in 2017. That same year, she gave birth to her twins, Rumi and Sir, with husband, Jay-Z. She wore a similar style after touring for her self-titled album back in 2014.

“INCHES!!!! So happy my baby’s hair grew back !! She is going to get me,” Mama Tina captioned a photo of Bey with her hair pulled back into a low ponytail.

Beyoncé Wears Her Natural Hair at an Awards Show – 2017

Beyoncé’s hair shows texture and character even while under hot lights, reminding Black girls that bone-straight hair is not the only way to go. While presenting Colin Kaepernick with the Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, she wore her natural hair yet again in another half-up, half-down style, which Farinah proudly showed off . “Love my job,” he said.

Because hair is so important to the Knowles family and brand , it was a no-brainer for the famous family to launch Bey’s own hair line. Like everything she does, this is a family affair. This is apparent in how she featured her mother in the new ad for Cécred.

Like Beyoncé’s ‘Texas Hold ‘em?’ Here are 7 other Black country artists you should listen to.

We’ve all heard of country stars like Dolly Parton or Chris Stapleton, but few can name many other Black artists who have contributed to the musical genre.

As global superstar Beyoncé's hit country single “Texas Hold’Em” continues to dominate the country and national music charts, Queen Bey’s crossover into the country music world has helped to draw attention to other Black artists in the country music space.

Historically country music was created by and played across both white and Black communities in the South, but white country music was marketed toward the rising white middle class as a way to make the genre more respected and hugely profitable, said Amanda Marie Martinez , a historian and writer studying country music and race.

As a result, the genre is mostly associated with white artists and has faced criticism for years due to its lack of diversity, gatekeeping, and racist treatment of Black country music artists, like Tracy Chapman .

In 2019, rapper Lil’ Nas X had his hit single “Old Town Road” (which has 1.2 billion views on YouTube today) removed from Billboard’s Top County Songs , sparking accusations of racism within the genre.

With a newly lit spotlight on the genre, here’s a list of seven Black country music artists you should add to your music collection (or Apple Music library).

Tanner Adell

Adell , of Lexington Kentucky, was adopted by her parents when she was barely one day old .

Expressing an interest in music at a young age, Adell taught herself how to play the guitar and enrolled in Utah Valley University’s commercial music program. Today, she has over 628,000 followers on TikTok and more than 340,000 followers on Instagram.

Growing up in Kentucky surrounded by horses and rodeos, Adell was inevitably introduced to country music.

In 2021, she moved to Nashville to pursue her dream of becoming a country music artist, and was eventually signed to Columbia Records.

Her viral major label debut single, “Honkey Tonk Heartbreak,” was eventually used as a routine song for the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders around early 2022. Over a year later, a handful of singles like “ FU-150 ,” “ Throw It Back ,” and “I Hate Texas ” have further grown her fanbase.

However, the release of her song, “ Buckle Bunny ” went viral in 2023. The song’s name, Adell says during an interview with PopCulture , was inspired by the term that men often call women who love dressing up and going to rodeos or to regard those women as rodeo groupies disrespectfully.

Cedric Burnside

Burnside , of Memphis, Tennessee, is a Grammy Award-winning blues musician set to release his fourth album “ Hill Country Love ,” on April 5.

Known for songs like, “The World Can Be So Cold” and “We Made It,” Burnside began performing country and blues at a young age, and even drummed for his grandfather blues legend R.L. Burnside .

His albums “ Descendants of Hill Country ” and “ Benton County Relic ,” were both nominated for Grammys.

On Friday, March 6, Burnside will start his upcoming tour and perform at several major cities , making his last stop at the XPoNential Music Festival, from Sept. 20-22, in Camden .

Mickey Guyton

Mickey Guyton was born in Arlington, Texas and was drawn to a variety of artists such as Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston at a young age.

In 2015, she released her self-titled EP featuring her debut single “Better Than You Left Me.” The following year she was nominated for her first Academy of Country Music Award (ACM) for New Female Vocalist.

Mickey returned to the ACM Awards in 2019 performing “I’m Standing With You” from the “Breakthrough” movie soundtrack alongside Chrissy Metz, Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina and Maddie & Tae.

Known for her songs like, “Somethin’ Bout You,” to “Heaven Down Here,” Guyton gained more fans in 2020 after the release of her single “ Black Like Me ,” which was named one of the Top 10 songs of 2020 by NPR .

The War and Treaty

This husband-and-wife duo — Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter — are collectively known as The War And Treaty .

Forming their two-person musical act in 2014, the couple has since earned their first-ever Grammy nominations this year for Best New Artist and Best American Roots Song for “Blank Page.”

The duo also received their first ever Duo of the Year nomination from the Country Music Association, vocal Duo nomination from the Academy of Country Music, and recognition by the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and the Americana Music Association.

They started their 2024 tour this month and will continue into Sept. 22. To listen to more of War and Treaty’s music, visit Apple Music .

Brittney Spencer

Baltimore native Brittney Spencer is known for her free spirit and standout ability to mold life, truth, and wild imagination into songs.

Deemed a “one to watch” by People Magazine, Spencer has shared stages with Jason Isbell, The Highwomen, Willie Nelson, Reba, Bobby Weir, and Maren Morris, to name a few. She’s also performed the National Anthem at The 148th Kentucky Derby, the Preakness in 2022 alongside Megan Thee Stallion and Lauryn Hill, and the 2023 NFL Draft.

As an outspoken advocate for her community and the planet, Brittney is an active supporter of many causes, including Habitat for Humanity, the Women’s March, CARE, and more.

She was recently named in Rolling Stone’s “Future 25.″ Brittney released her debut album, “My Stupid Life,” this year.

To check out more of Spencer’s music, visit Apple Music (or where you stream your music).

Kane Brown was born and raised in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area by a single mother, moving from Rossville to Fort Oglethorpe and LaFayette in Georgia and finally settling in Red Bank, Tennessee.

He attended Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School where he sang in the choir with Lauren Alaina, the runner-up on season 10 of American Idol.

Using social media as his platform, Brown posts cover songs and original material on Facebook and Instagram.

In 2014, Brown crowdfunded his debut single “Closer,” which eventually charted at the No. 1 spot on Apple Music’s country chart. Known for songs like, “Used to Love You Sober” to “Last Minute Late Night,” has gained success in the country music world.

Brown is currently in the process of signing a major label record deal, and “Used to Love You Sober” will be a single on country radio in early spring 2016. Brown’s “ In the Air” tour will kick off this March, and he will perform on March 30, at the Prudential Center, in Newark .

Shaboozey’s sophomore album, Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die , debuted in October 2022 and uses elements of both hip hop and country.

The genre-blending album featured the single “Tall Boy” and included guest appearances by Powers Pleasant and RMR .

Hailing from Virginia, whose parents are of Nigerian descent, Shaboozey continues to combine musical styles from hip hop, Afrobeats, jazz, Americana, rock, country, and Western music.

Shaboozey burst on the scene with his popular single, “ Jeff Gordon ,” which was released in 2014. His debut album “ Lady Wrangler” dropped in 2018 and he followed up with his trap-country fusion sophomore effort “Cowboys Live Forever .”

Last year, he released his country single “ Let It Burn ,” where he once again channeled elements of the country music genre.

Bash by India’s richest man draws Rihanna to the stage after an 8-year hiatus

Want an A-lister like Rihanna to perform at your wedding? Here's how much it could cost you.

  • Rihanna performed at the pre-wedding celebration for Anant Ambani  and Radhika Merchant.
  • Having an A-list artist play at a private event is a strong marker of wealth.
  • Here's how much it can cost — and why musicians are willing to show up.

Insider Today

Rihanna — the global music superstar turned billionaire beauty mogul — took to the stage this past weekend, performing her first full concert in eight years for the likes of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg , and Ivanka Trump. The reason: To celebrate the upcoming nuptials of Anant Ambani , the son of India's richest person, Mukesh Ambani, and his fiancée, Radhika Merchant.

The performance, on night one of a three-day affair in Gujarat, India, did not come cheap. It's speculated she got paid between $5 million and $9 million for the 19-song set, though that hasn't been confirmed, and Rihanna's spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

A-listers typically nab fees in the low to mid seven figures for "privates," as they are known, experts in the entertainment and luxury experience space told Business Insider. That varies based on location, length of performance, and demand, and artists can charge more for add-ons like meet-and-greets and photo ops. Plus, hosts have to pay for travel — typically, a private jet is required — production costs, and lodging.

Having A-list performers at an event, whether a wedding, bar mitzvah, or corporate retreat, is nothing new and can be an ultimate flex.

"If you can afford it, why wouldn't you fly in your favorite artist to perform your favorite songs rather than simply listening to covers?" Stuart McNeill, the founder of luxury concierge company Knightsbridge Circle, told Business Insider.

One of McNeill's clients flew R&B singer Craig David to the German spa town Baden-Baden last year to perform his wife's favorite song for a group of eight, he said. The company has also hired Elton John for a Christmas party, Nile Rodgers for a 50th birthday, and Lady Gaga for a Vegas gig.

Flo Rida has performed at a Chicago bar mitzvah and a New York private equity party in exchange for reported six-figure sums. Sting and Andrea Bocelli have made appearances at Davos and Kardashian weddings, respectively.

Mukesh Ambani is no stranger to shelling out for singers. He had Beyoncé perform at a celebration for his daughter's 2018 wedding, and the next year had The Chainsmokers and Chris Martin at his elder son's wedding festivities. While it's not public how much Ambani paid for those "privates," Beyoncé earned a reported $24 million last year for a controversial one-hour performance at a hotel opening in Dubai .

Regardless of whether the guests are 13-year-olds, corporate elites, or politicians, a star performance leaves a lasting impression on guests.

"Generally speaking, you will never beat the thrill of having a major artist perform at your wedding. For those who can swing it, it's one of the coolest experiences you can give to your guests," Alison Laesser-Keck, cofounder of luxury event planning firm Alison Bryan Destinations, told BI.

For the stars, "privates" have one big draw: the cash.

While some refuse to play private gigs for any fee and others only do it for people they know, other performers "aren't picky at all — they just want the paycheck," Laesser-Keck said.

Artists can earn more playing one hour at a private party than they would from a night of a tour — the latter of which takes a lot more rehearsing and involves months of promo and travel.

"In many cases, these bookings are easier than a public concert. No pressure to sell tickets, no interviews, etc," one entertainment insider told BI.

"Privates" have also grown in popularity in the era of Spotify and Apple Music.

Since the advent of streaming , artists have made significantly less money from music sales, which used to make up the bulk of their income. Now, to earn big, musicians have to perform live — whether through touring or private gigs. That means stars may be more amenable to playing at a wedding or corporate party than previously.

And at a certain price point, it's even hard for someone like Rihanna, who is worth $1.4 billion, per Forbes , to say no. Meanwhile, for some of the world's most wealthy, the bragging rights are nearly priceless.

"If you were a guest at a friend's 50th and Usher was performing, you'd be pretty impressed, right?!" McNeill said.
