What Is Visa-Free Travel?

Imagine the world is like a big storybook. If you don't travel, it's like you're only reading one page.

A smart person said this once.

When we say "visa-free countries for Indian passports," it means countries Indians can visit without a visa. Visa-free travel makes travelling simpler and faster because you don't have to fill out any extra forms or wait for approval before you go.

Even though visa-free travel means you don't need a visa, you'll still need to meet some basic rules to enter the countries without a visa from India.

Indian citizens can travel to those countries without needing many documents. However, you must never forget to check the requirements on Atlys , as the visa requirements may change at any time.

What Should I Bring When Travelling To A Visa Free Country?

When you're travelling to Indian passport visa free countries 2023, it's still important to carry a few key items to ensure your journey goes smoothly.

While you may not need all of these items for every trip, Atlys strongly recommends that you have these documents with you to make sure your travels go smoothly. It's always better to be prepared!

Passport : Always carry your valid passport. Make sure it's not about to expire, as some countries require your passport to be valid for several months beyond your planned stay.

Passport photos : Carry two recent photos that follow the specific visa photo guidelines of the country you are visiting.

Return or Onward Ticket : Some countries want proof that you won't overstay, so carry proof of your return ticket or an onward journey.

Proof of Accommodation : Have details of where you're going to stay, like hotel bookings or an invitation from a host.

Financial Proof : You may need to prove that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay. This could be bank statements, credit cards, or even cash.

Travel Insurance : While not always required, it's a good idea to have travel insurance to cover unexpected events like illness or accidents.

Vaccination Certificates : Some countries require proof that you've been vaccinated against certain diseases.

Local Currency : Even if you plan on using your credit card, having some local currency for smaller expenses or emergencies is always a good idea.

What To Expect When I Reach Immigration?

When you reach the immigration desk in a country that doesn't need a visa, here's what you can expect:

Checking Your Passport : The immigration officer will look at your passport to make sure it's valid for at least six more months from the day you arrive.

Questions : You might be asked why you're visiting, where you're going to stay, how long you plan to be there, what your travel plans are after this visit, and if you have enough money for your stay.

Biometrics : Some countries may take things like fingerprints, a photo, or a scan of your eye.

Health Check : Depending on the country and what's happening in the world, you might need a health check to show you've had certain vaccines or a negative COVID-19 test.

Customs Declaration : You might need to fill out a form saying what valuable items you're bringing into the country.

Entry Stamp : If everything is okay, the officer will put a stamp on your passport that says when you arrived and how long you can stay.

Remember, every country does things a little differently, so this might not be exactly what happens.

Always be nice and tell the truth when you're talking to immigration officials, and be ready to show them any documents or information they ask for. Safe travels!

Knowing about visa-free countries for Indian passport holders is like having a special pass to a world filled with amazing adventures. With less paperwork and stress, your dreams of exploring the world become much easier to achieve.

So, take out your passports and get ready to turn the entire world into your own exciting playground!

Singapore's Passport Most Powerful In The World, Pakistan's Is Fourth Weakest

Meanwhile, Singapore has replaced Japan with having the world's most powerful passport, allowing visa-free entry to 192 global destinations out of a total of 199.

After being the strongest passport for five years, Japan's ranking dropped to third place as the number of countries its passport can access without a visa decreased. Nearly a decade ago, the US topped the ranking but is currently in the eighth position with passport holders having visa-free access to 188 countries.

Asia has conventionally dominated the rankings in the index, but Europe is bouncing back with Germany, Italy, and Spain rising to the second spot, offering visa-free access to 190 destinations.

Notably, Pakistan has been ranked as having the fourth weakest passport in the world with access to 35 countries with an on-arrival visa facility until January this year, which has now come down to 33.

Violence-torn Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria are at the bottom of the list with easy access to 27, 29, and 30 countries respectively.

The Henley Passport Index, which ranks 199 passports based on International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, is regularly updated to reflect changes in visa policies. It was originally created by Dr. Christian H. Kaelin.

The average number of visa-free destinations, over the years, for travellers has nearly doubled from 58 in 2006 to 109, as per a statement.

"The general trend over the history of the 18-year-old ranking has been towards greater travel freedom, with the average number of destinations travellers are able to access visa-free nearly doubling from 58 in 2006 to 109 in 2023," a statement by Henley & Partners read.

However, there is a significant gap in travel freedom between the top-ranked and bottom-ranked countries.

Iran allows visa free entry for Indians with four conditions

 alt=

New Delhi: Iran recently announced visa–free entry for Indians visiting the country for tourism purposes. This visa–waiver project has been effective from 4 February onwards. It was in December, last year, that Iran announced a project that allows visa-free entry for citizens of 32 countries including India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. However, the visa-free policy for Indians is subject to four conditions.

Those who hold a regular passport may enter Iran visa-free once in six months. However, he/she can stay in the country only for up to fifteen days. Visa-free entry is allowed only to tourists who arrive in the country by air. Meanwhile, the authorities clarified that those who wish to stay in the country for a longer duration or make multiple entries within six months should secure a proper Iranian visa. Last month, Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar visited Iran and held extensive meetings with Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Hossein Amir–Abdollahian. The visa-free project for Indians was flagged off after that.

8 Asian countries that allow dual citizenship; check if India is on the list

TRAVEL TRENDS Created : Mar 5, 2024, 00:00 IST

which countries can travel to india visa free

Nationality plays a crucial role when it comes to international travel, serving as a determining factor for visa requirements and shaping personal identity. While certain countries like India, Japan, and Singapore adhere strictly to single citizenship, one can notice a notable trend across Asia where dual citizenship is allowed. This legal status, often known as multiple citizenship, allows an individual to hold citizenship in more than one country simultaneously. The acquisition of dual citizenship can result from various factors, including ancestry, birthright, marriage, or investment.

If you are curious by now, here are some countries in Asia that allow dual citizenship.

In Cambodia, foreign nationals can acquire dual citizenship through avenues such as investment, naturalization, descent, or marriage. Remarkably, Cambodian citizens also have their freedom to possess multiple passports without renouncing their original citizenship, which positions Cambodia as one of the Asian countries that allows dual citizenship.

Bangladesh facilitates individuals in retaining Bangladeshi citizenship, while also holding passports from other countries that permit dual nationality. Citizenship of this country can be obtained via investment, marriage, or naturalization, thereby providing individuals with the opportunity for dual citizenship in Asia.

Sri Lanka extends the prospect of dual citizenship to its citizens and individuals from other nations through the possession of a Sri Lankan passport. Those who have given away Sri Lankan citizenship by acquiring another nationality, or those wanting to acquire citizenship from abroad are eligible to apply for dual citizenship. The criteria for obtaining citizenship include employment, property ownership, investment, or marriage to a Sri Lankan citizen.

Thailand is another popular destination among Asian countries that allow dual citizenship. It offers this status to foreigners who are able to meet certain requirements, which will include five consecutive years of permanent residency, 3 years of employment, a clean record, and a minimum age of 18. Additionally, foreign women married to Thai husbands enjoy an easy path, as they will require only one year of marriage to be eligible.

Taiwan acknowledges dual citizenship for its native-born citizens, and grants them the opportunity to maintain this status without having to give away their Taiwanese nationality. Additionally, Taiwan extends a dual citizenship policy to individuals possessing extraordinary talents. Foreign nationals who have lived in Taiwan for a minimum of five years and exhibit exceptional skills in areas, such as education, economics, science, arts, or technology, can keep their original citizenship while acquiring a Taiwanese passport.

Hong Kong offers various options to individuals to acquire residency and potential citizenship. The Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS) targets skilled individuals, while the General Employment Policy (GEP) Permit is for those seeking work post-residency acquisition. The Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP) focuses on mainland Chinese residents with unique skills. Entrepreneurs can establish a business through an investment in a Hong Kong private limited company. After seven years, a Permanent Residency Visa becomes available, with eligibility for citizenship after ten years.

Dual citizenship in Pakistan is available to individuals holding citizenship from a specific list of 19 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Belgium, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Nationals of these countries can acquire Pakistani citizenship without renouncing their original passport.

Philippines

The Philippines allows dual nationality for native-born individuals and those of Filipino descent. Filipino-born individuals with foreign citizenship and those born to Filipino parents outside the country are eligible to apply for dual citizenship.

Updated travel information for Mexican citizens coming to Canada

From: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

News release

Canada and Mexico have maintained a deep, positive and constructive diplomatic partnership over the past 80 years. We have worked to ensure North America is the world’s most competitive economic region and maintain strong bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation. To support travel and people-to-people connections between Canada and Mexico, while also preserving the integrity of our immigration system, the Government of Canada is adjusting its travel requirements for Mexican citizens.

February 29, 2024, 8:30 a.m. – Ottawa – Canada and Mexico have maintained a deep, positive and constructive diplomatic partnership over the past 80 years.

As of February 29, 2024, at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time, Mexican citizens who hold a valid US non-immigrant visa or have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years and are travelling by air on a Mexican passport will be able to apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA). With the high number of Mexican citizens currently holding US visas, the majority will continue to enjoy visa-free travel to Canada. Those who do not meet these conditions will need to apply for a Canadian visitor visa. This responds to an increase in asylum claims made by Mexican citizens that are refused, withdrawn or abandoned. It is an important step to preserve mobility for hundreds of thousands of Mexican citizens, while also ensuring the sound management of our immigration and asylum systems.

The application process for Mexican citizens seeking a work or study permit will not change. Mexican citizens who want to work in Canada will continue to have access to a wide number of existing labour pathways, including the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and the International Mobility Program.

Canada supports ongoing travel, tourism and business with Mexico. We will continue to work with the Government of Mexico to strengthen our regular pathways to immigration, and with our provincial and territorial counterparts to support a system of managed migration as well as to support those in need of protection. Canada is expanding its network of visa application centres in Mexico to better serve these clients. Today’s action will relieve pressure on Canada’s borders, immigration system, housing and social services, while preserving mobility for Mexican citizens who want to come to Canada.

The Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) is a vital example of the mutually beneficial migration that we seek to promote regionally and globally. Canada is ready to work with Mexico to build on this program, through the modernization of a new SAWP bilateral agreement, to offer Mexican workers new opportunities, through the incorporation of year-round primary agriculture and seasonal fish, seafood and primary food processing into the program. This will benefit workers and businesses on both sides of the Canada–Mexico relationship.

Canada is continuously monitoring the impacts of its visa policies for both visa-exempt and visa-required countries, as well as asylum claim trends. These challenges are not limited to one country. Any adjustment to Canada’s travel requirements are made to preserve the integrity and sustainability of our asylum and immigration systems.

More information about these changes, including for people in transit or with upcoming flights, is available on IRCC’s website .

“Mexico is an important partner to Canada. We will continue to welcome Mexican temporary workers, students, visitors and immigrants who bring diverse skills and important contributions to our economy and communities. We strive for balance between the movement of people between our two great countries, and the need to relieve pressure on our immigration system so we can provide protection to those who need it the most.” – The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

Quick facts

Asylum claims made by Mexican citizens reached a record high in 2023 at a time when Canada’s asylum system, housing and social services were already under significant pressure. The majority of these claims (approximately 60%) were either rejected by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, or withdrawn or abandoned by the applicant.

In 2023 alone, asylum claims from Mexican citizens accounted for 17% of all claims made that year from all nationalities around the world. The country’s asylum claim rate has risen significantly since the visa was first lifted in 2016 (from 260 claims in 2016 to 23,995 claims in 2023).

All eTAs issued to Mexican passports before 11:30 p.m. Eastern time on February 29, 2024, will no longer be valid—except for eTAs linked to Mexican passports with a valid Canadian work or study permit. Mexican citizens travelling to Canada without a valid work or study permit will need to apply for a visitor visa or reapply for a new eTA —if they are eligible.

Mexican citizens holding a valid work or study permit can still travel by air to Canada with their existing eTA as long as it remains valid, and they can continue to study or work in Canada based on the validity and conditions of their permit. Mexican visitors who are already in Canada on an eTA can stay for as long as they are authorized (up to six months from the date they arrive in Canada). However, if they plan to leave Canada and wish to return, they must have the proper travel documents (visa or new eTA).

Most approved visa applicants receive multiple-entry visas, which allow them to visit Canada as many times as they want, for up to 10 years, or until their passport expires.

The eTA is a digital travel document that most visa-exempt travellers need in order to travel to or transit through Canada by air. IRCC first began expanding its eTA program to eligible citizens from visa-required countries in 2017. Mexico will now be among 15 countries whose citizens can to fly to Canada on an eTA, instead of a visa, if they meet certain requirements .

  • Dubai's 5-year-multiple visa allows each stay for 90 days
  • Visa can be extended once, total stay shall not exceed 180 days within a year
  • Visa issued within 2-5 working days upon receiving and accepting service request

Dubai has rolled out a five-year multiple-entry visa to boost travel between India and the Gulf nation, news agency PTI reported, citing the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

Last year, 2.46 million Indians visited Dubai, a 25 per cent rise from the pre-Covid-19 pandemic era. This figure has made India the number one source market with an exceptional 34 per cent year-on-year growth, according to the latest DET data on February 22.

In the year-ago period, the city hosted 1.84 million tourists from India, while in 2019, it welcomed 1.97 million visitors, it added.

Eligible Indian nationals can now enjoy the convenience of multiple entries into Dubai for five years, with each stay allowed up to 90 days. This visa can be extended once for a similar period, ensuring that the total stay does not exceed 180 days within a year.

The visa-issuance process is notably efficient, with applications being processed within two to five working days upon receiving and accepting the service request.

To qualify for the visa, applicants must meet specific requirements, including possessing a bank balance of $4,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies during the last six months and having valid health insurance coverage applicable in the UAE.

Through this initiative, tourists can leverage multiple entries and exits, providing operational flexibility for business engagements, leisure travel, and seamless connectivity, DET said, PTI reported.

"Dubai introduced a five-year multiple-entry visa to further bolster travel between India and Dubai, to foster sustained economic collaborations and encourage tourism and business ties," the DET said.

"As a key market for Dubai, India will continue to play an integral role in enabling us to achieve the goals of the D33 Agenda, further reinforcing Dubai's position as a hub for business, investment and tourism," said Bader Ali Habib, Regional Head of Proximity Markets at Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, said.

"Our inbound visitation from India in 2023 was outstanding, contributing to a record-breaking performance by our tourism sector," he added.

Habib said the move will not only allow Indian tourists to visit Dubai but also provide a platform for enhanced economic collaboration.

"With exceptional flight connectivity and our ongoing commitment to the Indian market, we are confident that our upcoming initiatives will further amplify awareness about Dubai's diverse offerings, multicultural setting, and abundance of hotels and attractions, continuing to make it the top travel choice for Indian tourists," he said.
