We haven't cruised since 2007... and today we did our first check-in.  Our check-in time is 12:00 - 12:30.  Our Boarding Zone is A01. The departure port does not have FTTF.  I have a couple questions... what is the earliest check-in time that someone could have printed on their Boarding Pass ?  And how many Boarding Zones are there ?

I see you are from California, so assume you are cruising out of Long Beach.  Zone A01 will board immediately after priority boarding.  When I cruised out of Long Beach, I went to the early/late line at 11:15 am and was checked in and seated within several minutes.

I'm leaving out of San Francisco.  I was thinking of getting to the cruise terminal an hour early, and waiting in the Early/Late line.  This is all so much different.  My last cruise in 2007 was out of Long Beach.  Basically, you arrived... gave your luggage to the porter, and waited in one big'ol long line -- one for priority passengers, and then a line with everyone else -- to board.  The later you came, the further back in line you were.  And Long Beach is a bit warm in May, so the wait in line was unpleasant to many since there is no shade.

When I cruised out of Long Beach this past December, they boarded priority first and then starting calling zones with zone A01.  Hopefully, they will do the same thing in San Francisco.  The early/late line in Long Beach had basically nobody in it at 11:15.  I lucked out with my timing.  I went to the early/late line in Port Canaveral and was in the waiting area within 15 minutes that time too.  Sometimes those lines are long and sometimes they aren't.  With zone A01, I would show up early because most times you will be on the ship before your appointment time.

I was surprised to get a 12:30 - 1:00 Arrival Appt. for our Horizon cruise in March. And I stayed up to do the online check-in as soon as it was available, so that was the earliest. We've never gotten one that late as the earliest option. Is that normal for the Horizon?

We were able to get a FTTF for our cabin, but not for our son's and his friend, so I guess we'll wait for them. They got zone A01, so they'll be called not long after FTTF. We'll just go early and get in the early/late line with them and see how it goes. I hate to give up early boarding since it's a perk we paid for, but we don't think it's fair to leave them behind.

Between the time they call FTTF and zone A01 it's only a few minutes, so that's good.  Everyone can drop off their carryons in your cabin if they need to.  When I showed up at 10:45 for the early/late line in Port Canaveral, there was hardly anyone in line.  I think the early/late line gets longer the later it gets.

From talking to my neighbor who works at the Port of Tampa, he has said the only time the early/late line gets busy is early when a lot of people show up early.  After the early rush, which doesn’t happen often,    he said there is rarely a line in the early/late line since most passengers show up during their check-in window.

Tampa can only support Fantasy and Spirit class ships due to the height limit of the Skyway Bridge, so it’s possible the early/late line is more crowded at ports that can support Carnival’s larger ships.

My experience with the early/late lines and boarding zones has been: Vista out of Miami in 2018 - We arrived at 12:30, but had to drop off our bags and were 5 minutes late for the on time line.  We were sent to the early/late line.  There was a wait, but it wasn't horrible.  At that time, they handed out the boarding zone cards upon arrival, so we had to wait inside for awhile before we could board. New Orleans - I think we got to the port around 11:30 because we had to park in the garage and had no idea how long it would take.  It took about a half hour and we had to park on the top of the garage.  We went to the early/late line and it was packed.  It moved at a snail's pace.  This is the longest we ever waited to get on a ship, but we still boarded before our appointment time. Fort Lauderdale - We had FTTF and arrived at 10:30.  They started boarding FTTF around 10:50 and the first few zones were called as we were boarding the ship.  So anyone with an early boarding zone who arrived before their appointment time was able to board the ship before their appointment time. Port Canaveral - Arrived around 10:45 and there was basically nobody in the early/late line. We boarded around 11:10, which was before our appointment time. Long Beach - Arrived around 11:15 and there was basically nobody in the early/late line.  This was the first 7 day sailing for the Panorama.  They were having issues with the back to back people from the previous 3 night sailing and boarding took a long time.  We weren't on the ship until 1:25 a.m .  However, I think future sailings had quicker boarding.

Yeah, my wife thought maybe we should cancel our FTTF since we couldn't get another one, but I said no. It'll still give us a place to put everyone's luggage and I always seem to have to go to Guest Services at least once, so I do like the priority line. Our hotel shuttle leaves at 10:00 and will get there about 10:30, so we'll definitely be early. That's ok, I don't mind standing in line so much when there's a cruise on the other end of it. 😊 We still have a little over a month and we're checking furiously in hopes of catching one more FTTF, but our chances are looking grim.

Gosh, O.C. couldn't you all board before your kid & friend...drop off your carry ons, and then wait for them at a predetermined location that's easily recognizable, and simply...wait for them? Sounds like it wouldn't be a long wait at all. And it would save you all some unneeded encumbrances/stress.  JMHO.

I would keep the FTTF too.  Being able to store carryons is so convenient.  So is the priority guest services line.  People say to just go to guest services at odd hours, but sometimes that's not always possible.  On my last cruise, my room keys didn't work.  I couldn't wait until an odd hour and ended standing in the very slow and long regular line wishing I had FTTF. You never know about snagging another one.  I was able to snag one at 38 days out one time.  For that cruise, it actually popped up as available a couple more times closer to the cruise.  There is always hope.  I will be platinum on my March cruise and it's so strange not stalking FTTF.

This'll be my first time with the boarding zones... We have A01 for an upcoming Panorama cruise but fly into LGB around 7am.  We plan on taking a taxi to the Hotel Maya and having a leisurely breakfast before walking to the port, might tour the Queen Mary too.  My question is: which will board first A01 or the early/late line?  Thank for your help  😁

The lines to get into the terminal are different than boarding zones.  To get into the terminal, people can enter through the priority line, the on time line, or the early/late line.   Priority line: People with FTTF (when available), wedding parties, platinums, diamonds, and passengers in suites On time Line: This is for passengers who arrive during their 30 minute appointment time Early/Late Line : This is for passengers who arrive before or after their 30 minute appointment window One of these three lines will get you into the terminal, checked in, and then seated.  Priority passengers usually have a special seating area. Boarding is in this order: Wedding parties, diamonds, platinums, suites, FTTF, A01, A02, etc... No matter what time you are able to enter the terminal, boarding will not begin until all of the previous passengers are off of the ship.  Then they will make announcements to board in ship, with priority boarding first, then the zones, beginning with A01.  A01 is a great zone to have!

Also, I have had zone A01 a couple of times.  No matter which port, for zone A01 I would arrive at 10:30 and enter through the early/late line.  Most likely you will be on the ship before your appointment time.  At least that has been my experience.

You're right, it wouldn't be a very long wait between FTTF and zone A01. In NOLA in December, we got held up at the Guest Services counter inside the terminal because the rep. didn't know what she was doing and we ended up at the end of the FTTF group. When we were called, just as we were walking out of the waiting area, I heard them call zone A01. It's certainly a possibility, and one my wife and I have briefly talked about. Our son will be 19 by the time we go and he's familiar with the whole check-in and boarding process. But if we do choose to take full advantage of our FTTF, we'd get separated into different lines going into the terminal and separate waiting areas, so I'm not sure if he's comfortable doing all that without us. Not to mention we don't know that we'd want to do that to them out of fairness. We'll probably just have to accept giving up that perk.

Fair enough, and totally understandable. I agree.

Just cruised out Long Beach on Panorama 1/25/2020.

Here's my boarding experience, your mileage WILL vary!

Arrived at the Queen Mary parking lot via private shuttle, Johnny's California Shuttle service.  They suggested the drop off point as it was quicker to access than the crowded parking structure, which was backed up at the entry gate.  This was around 10am.  Walked to 100 yards or so from the drop zone to the early/late line.  Was surprised that I was the first person in that line.  We had 5 in our traveling party.  Weather was mild and dry so I figured we'd be ok to not get soaked and settled in for our long wait as I had chosen the earliest check in time available, 12:30 to 1pm.  I did have optimism that we'd get inside the dome earlier than that as we also had the coveted boarding zone of A01!

We had only been in line for about 15 minutes when they decided to start letting priority line pax in the dome.  Excitement was palpable!  Could it be?  Would they let the early/late line peeps in right after them?

Yes!  By 10:30am we were in the dome and through security and seated as close to the boarding entry as possible.  Right across from where they rent the motorized scooters and just next to the area for pax needing assistance to stage.

Right about 11:30am they started boarding priority and by 11:45am we were dinged onboard and claimed a table on the lido and in line for our first Guy's burgers, washed down with a Long Island ice tea!

I went from very upset they didn't offer earlier check in times to the best non-FTTF embarkation experience ever!

I just did the check in for our April Magic cruise--this is our first since the arrival appointment system.

We are in a suite, so I didn't "rush" (aka do it the first day) to do the on line check in, as I thought given that we had a suite, we would go before FTTF, etc.  It gave me a 12:30 arrival time.....  can I show up early and get right on, or will they have us sit around until 12:30?

I"m also curious.  We have a 11:30 board time but A04 zone.  We're staying at a local hotel in MIA and planned to head to the port at 10 am, arrive by 10:30 am.  For experienced MIA cruisers, should we just take our time and arrive at 11:30 or is there a chance that we might get on by 11:00 from the early line?  Although I've cruised many times, this is a new system to me...I've always arrived early and got on early on Celebrity, Princess, Norweigan.

Just to be sure, you have an 11:30am,  check in time ... NOT BOARD TIME. You check in, and then wait in line to go through security screening. Then you are herded to a very large waiting area. with seating. Then you have to listen REAAALLLLLLL close because THAT'S when they start announcing the boarding zones. THEN, you get up and get in single file line, to be checked in....again by the last person(thankfully) before you start your final trek toward the ship. And that takes about 10-15 minutes. And then.....you are on the ship....

At least that's the way it was for us on our cruise on the Dream out of Galveston last July 27. Granted that was Galveston....so YMMV. Here's a pic or 2 of what we went through.

So, does that mean even if you get through the "early" checkin  line, you're still sitting and waiting for your zone to be called in the sitting area?  So that checkin time makes absolutely no difference in when you board?  I'd rather not sit for hours on end because I arrived early..I can sit at the hotel pool lol.

Yes, it does mean that even if you arrive before your appointment time and go through the early/late line to get in to the terminal, you still have to wait for your boarding zone to be called to get on the ship. However, my experience is that when I use the early/late line instead of waiting to arrive during my appointment window, I am on the ship before my appointment window.   They usually start the boarding process between 10:30 and 11:30.  So, if your appointment time is noon and you arrive early, chances are you will be on the ship before noon as long as there are no delays.  The appointment times are to stagger passengers so that everybody doesn't arrive early.  However, they usually start boarding the ships earlier than the appointment times.  You can wait and arrive during your appointment time and basically walk on the ship.  Or you can show up early, go through the early/late line, wait until they start boarding between 10:30 and 11:30 and then get on the ship.

Right, if you get there early and get put in the early/late line, once you make it through the security screening and check-in process, you're still waiting in the waiting area, unless they've already started boarding. Then, depending on what zones they've already called, you might just zip on through and onto the ship. From what I've read from others, the early/late line is sometimes long, sometimes very short. I've seen some say even though they ended up in the early/late line, they still got into the terminal well before their chosen check-in time (Arrival Appointment, as Carnival calls it).  You're zone A04, so you might get into the terminal before your 11:30 - 12:00 check-in time, but if they haven't started boarding yet, you're waiting. They won't start boarding until they clear the ship from the previous cruise. Last time we sailed out of Miami was in 2018 on the Glory. They started boarding around 11am, we had FTTF and got called around 11:10.

That's the gamble that you take when you decide to get into the early/late check in line(it's the same line). And it IS a gamble. Sometimes you luck out and the line is short.....BUT sometimes the line is verrrrryyyyy long. Even at that, you STILL go to the waiting area. And that's a gamble I do not want to take.  As always, YMMV.

When I cruised on the Magic last year, I had FTTF.  They started boarding suites around 10:40 and FTTF around 10:50.  I will be platinum for my cruise on the Magic this April and plan on arriving around 10:15.  Since you are in a suite, you can enter the terminal through the priority line as soon as it opens up. Then as soon as boarding starts, they will call wedding parties, diamonds, platinums, suites, FTTf, A01, etc.

Guide to Carnival’s “Staggered” Check-in

There was a major problem when it comes to getting on a cruise ship, and Carnival has sought to fix it.

If you’ve taken a cruise before, think back to your last embarkation day. There was that rush of excitement. You couldn’t wait to get onboard, find your room, grab a drink, and explore the ship. In fact, even though you likely had a 3-4 hour boarding window (usually from 12:00-4:00 on cruise day), we’re guessing you got there early. If you weren’t there before the embarkation window, then we’d wager you were there within an hour of it opening.

Therein lies the problem. People are excited about their cruises. They can’t wait to get aboard. That leads to major issues for the cruise line. Instead of a nice even flow of people over the boarding window, there’s a mad rush of passengers at the start, that then slows to a trickle as the day drags on.

Don’t get us wrong; it’s good that people are excited about cruising. But that excitement causes major logistical issues. That’s why to smooth things out, Carnival has now implemented a “staggered” check-in.

Originally piloted in Galveston (and now being rolled out to almost every port Carnival operates), this new method of boarding the ship involves passengers selecting boarding times in 30-minute intervals. The concept is easy. When you check-in for your cruise, you’ll be able to pick an arrival time that works best for you. Instead of a 3-4 hour boarding window, you now have a much smaller 30-minute time to get to the ship.

With this new method the flow of passengers to the ship will be more evened out, instead of long lines at the start of embarkation.

Of course, as with any procedure, there are always some questions that will come up. Carnival put together this handy FAQ , but we’ll also answer some of the biggest questions here.

How do I select a time?

To select a boarding time, you’ll need to check-in online and select your boarding window. They are first come, first served, so if your preferred timeslot isn’t open, you’ll have to choose another.

What happens if show up before my boarding time?

According to Carnival, passengers who arrive early will be turned away from the terminal if they arrive before their scheduled departure time. They will be asked to return during their specified boarding window.

What happens if I show up after my boarding time?

Don’t worry, as long as you are still within the total embarkation window (one hour before the ship is set to leave) then you will still be able to board if you show up late. As Carnival says, late passengers “will be accommodated.”

I have special status on Carnival. Does that mean I can’t board first?

If you have special status on Carnival, such as being part of their Priority Program or buying the “Faster to the Fun” package won’t really see a change in boarding. While the cruise line would still like you to choose a boarding time so they know when to expect you, you can show up at anytime during the embarkation window and board.

One update for those of you still fighting the change, its doing exactly what Carnival was hoping. The following was posted by Carnival’s John Heald in regards to the change:

As you know we have been underway with our staggered check in system for ships sailing out of Galveston for some time now. I know change is never always easy to accept; there is no doubt that it has for the most part eased congestion, lines have diminished, and the whole process has been made much easier.

Have you gone through the new staggered check-in? Share your experience (good or bad) in the comments below.

We cruised out of Tampa and our check in time was at 12pm. We showed up at the port around 11am and was allowed to check in and was actually on the ship before 12pm. We was not turned away and actually boarded right after the faster to the fun group did.

Thanks for letting us know! Sounds like you lucked out.

I had the same experience at the Port in Long Beach/Lost Angeles. We arrived an hour or so before our boarding window because our flight got in early. We had our day bags along with us, our 12 packs of soda, and wine. We wandered around the cruise terminal looking for a bar to sit at and wait, but there wasn’t much open at that hour. We decided to give it a go for check in and were not turned away. In fact, there was a line titled “I arrived too early” and were directed to that line. We were permitted to check in, go through security, and board the ship about 2 hours before our scheduled time. If we were not permitted to board, we would be sitting around outside with all of our things.

I wonder if any of your readers can verify that things have changed further in Galveston. I have heard that now if you are early OR late for your window, that you are put in another line. It used to be that if you arrived late, you were allowed on the regular non priority line. It appears as though this may have changed. I would like verification from some recent cruisers so I can share correct info with a group I am taking with me.

Can anyone explain Boarding Zones to me???   I checked in early and got a 10:30 arrival time, but I'm also in boarding zone B03!   Is this good, bad, or doesn't matter??   I'm on the Glory leaving out of New Orleans on Sunday.

Well you won't be first on the ship but it doesn't really matter in my opinion.

10,000+ Club

Doesn’t matter, you will be onboard in no time, unless you are carrying the blue tote bag.

Haha

Means you'll be onboard for sail away

B03 is your muster station for the emergency drill before the ship leaves port

B03 is his boarding Zone and not his Muster Stations.

Muster Stations are 1 Letter.

It won't make much difference, but I am a bit surprised you got B03 for a 10:30 - 11 arrival time. I took a quick look at our last four Glory cruises and what we had:

December 2021 10:30 -11 A01

January  2022 10:30 - 11 B01

February 2022 10:30 - 11 B01

April 2022 10 - 10:30 A01

We usually don't pick the earliest time since we drive a bit over an hour to the terminal and I sleep as late as my wife will allow (I wish she would let me sleep till 10). We have found very little difference in when we got on the ship from A01 to B01. They generally start boarding at about 11. Also, how many are in any given group and how many numbers are within each alphabet letter seems to vary a lot. On one of those cruises we were B01 but they only had A01 and A02 before they called B01.

Muster stations aren't always a single letter. Maybe on the very small ships. For instance on the Magic, there is A3, A4, A5, B3, B4, C4, D4, E3, E4.

Though you are correct where boarding zones have absolutely nothing to do with muster stations.

It means you'll be in the third group out of B zone to board, so you might not set foot on the ship until 11AM-ish. (i'd assume earlier unless you get a bunch of uptight jerkoffs showing up earlier than their assigned time trying to be the first on board, clogging things up)

Hopefully it won't ruin your cruise.

Good to know, I will be on Magic this Nov.

Carnival Cruise Line Brings Back Priority Boarding/Check-In

Ben Souza

Effective for Carnival cruises that depart on or after November 3, 2022, priority check-in and boarding for Diamond and Platinum guests has been reinstated across all of the cruise line’s homeports and cruise ships departing from North America and Europe.

Online check-in will continue to open 48 hours earlier for Diamond and Platinum guests than all other booked guests. When completing your online check-in, you must select an Arrival Appointment that works best with your plans. Please follow that arrival time as Carnival Cruise Line will not be able to accommodate guests who show up at a time outside their self-selected window.

Upon arrival to the terminal, look for the Priority line to check-in.

Once on board, you will be able to drop off your bags in your stateroom, However, your cabin won’t be completely ready yet so Carnival asks you to return to the public areas of the ship after your bags are dropped off.  This will give the crew members time to get everything ready for the sailing.

Priority luggage delivery has also been reinstated for checked bags.

Priority boarding and check-in is not available for Carnival Journeys cruises.

MARDI GRAS: FUN-FUELED VACATION INNOVATION POWERED BY LNG

When we launched our first ship, 1972's TSS Mardi Gras , we made cruising a lot less stuffy, a bit less fancy, the kind of fun everybody could enjoy. Nobody expected this ship to change the cruise world, but... here we are! So here’s a brand-new ship with a familiar name. With this Mardi Gras ® we aren't just paying homage to our first ship — in cruising circles this name suggests innovation, signals the start of something big. Oh, and this Mardi Gras still shouts “fun!” at the top of its lungs. This ship introduces Zones — six themed areas packed with brand-new experiences for eating, drinking and spectacularly getting down to fun. There's BOLT ® , the first-ever rollercoaster at sea, Emeril's Bistro 1396 ™ from yes-that-Emeril, Family Feud ™ Live for everybody... plus incredible new bars like The Brass Magnolia and Fortune Teller . Everybody can enjoy Mardi Gras , sailing now. Come on down!

MEET THE HOMEPORT

On June 4 th , Mardi Gras met her homeport for the first time... which would be the awesome Port Canaveral , of course. So maybe you should meet it too! Port Canaveral is a great place to kick off a cruise from, especially with the beautiful, brand-new cruise terminal we built specifically to be Mardi Gras’ home. Cruise you soon, can’t wait!

MEET THE GODMOTHER

When it’s almost time for a new Carnival ship to start sailing, one of the most important decisions to make is who the ship’s godmother will be. This ceremonial position is such an important choice to get right… since the choice is not only a statement about the ship, but the things we value as a cruise line. That’s why Mardi Gras’ godmother is Kimberly Jiménez , better known as Miss Dominican Republic! Kimberly has distinguished herself through her important work as a champion for at-risk youth, and as a founding member of the Dominican Republic Women’s Club. She also recently won the Spirit of Carnival award for embodying our values of fun, friendship, diversity and inclusion. Congrats and welcome aboard, Kimberly!

MEET THE CEREMONY

We kick off a new ship’s career with a naming ceremony… and ours are one part tradition and a lotta parts fun! On the tradition end, we get dignitaries like Mardi Gras' godmother, Miss Dominican Republic Kimberly Jiménez, and our own Chief Fun Officer Shaq to help make sure the champagne bottle gets broken just right for good luck. And of course we don’t forget the party end of things, inviting countless well-known well-wishers, hosting a second line parade and spotlighting Mardi Gras’ crew of 120 nationalities. Welcome to the fleet!

INSPIRED BY THAT SPECIAL PLACE VACATION TAKES US

Ok, a few places — get ready for six distinct onboard zones featuring brand-new experiences for spectacularly getting down to food, drink and fun.

Grand Central

On a Carnival cruise your vacation starts in the atrium, and on Mardi Gras ® that's in the Grand Central zone. By the way... on this ship the atrium's different . Don't be surprised if you step inside and the first place you want to look is upwards. Up there are high ceilings that hint at even more fun living on the three decks above! But look around down here too... you'll find floor-to-ceiling windows that really bring in the ocean views. Of course you'll be back here throughout your cruise, taking a break with a nice cup of coffee or a menu of great food choices at JavaBlue ™ Café , enjoying performances up on stage, or killing time fabulously at the Grand View Bar. Just wait until the sun goes down and the space slips into evening dress, transforming into an amazing show venue after dark! In Grand Central you're never far from great dining spots like Bonsai Sushi ™ and Bonsai Teppanyaki ™ , plus feel-good entertainment like Piano Bar 88 ™ and The Punchliner Comedy Club ™ .

French Quarter

If "big" and "easy" sound about right for your vacation, you might just make the French Quarter on Mardi Gras ® your home zone. What inspired this area is no less than New Orleans itself… and if all this talk of NOLA has you half as hungry as we are, you’ll be pleased to hear that our French Quarter is lined with bars and eateries worthy of their namesake. For one thing there’s the spectacularly, authentically delicious Emeril’s Bistro 1396 ™ , developed in partnership with yes-that-Emeril. Just steps away is entertainment clearly influenced by the world-renowned Crescent City nightlife — yep, The Brass Magnolia bar features not only great drinks but also hot jazz, live. What’s more, you’re just steps away from sipping mystically at the Fortune Teller bar, and definitely save time to browse some funky little shops.

Summer Landing

Go ahead and call Summer Landing 'the greatest chill spot at sea'... and we'll be right there with you, any time of year! What's three letters long and goes great with chilling outdoors? BBQ, so we're building a Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse ™ into this zone so it always tastes like summer here with freshly-smoked faves designed by Guy Fieri and original Parched Pig ® beers brewed just feet away. If you're wondering where the pool and whirlpool are, we're so alike, you and us... and that's why we're sure you're gonna love The Watering Hole , a poolside bar we're building for aficionados of backyard-style relaxation. And for military folks — or folks who just want to raise a glass to them — please report to Heroes Tribute ™ Lounge for great service. We know you guys like soft serve too, so we're throwing in a Swirls ™ location — one of two! And why wouldn't we? At Summer Landing, fun this cool is literally always in season.

La dolce vita is within reach at La Piazza ... and we'd know, with all the Italian seafaring spirit that's literally driving the ship. This zone stands for atmosphere and flavor, and it starts with Cucina del Capitano ® , which brings your party together for an evening of Italian favorites served family-style, while Pizzeria del Capitano makes delizioso happen for you atop a base of imported Italian flour and fresh mozzarella. Mardi Gras ® debuts Piazza Panini where the handhelds are hot and pressed, plus Bar della Rosa , where you'll sip authentic espresso drinks by day and classic Italian cocktails when the sun goes down. All this flavor and flair we’ve got in here may practically transport you straight to Italy… but don’t forget that so much of it can be enjoyed outdoors, where the sea breeze is just bellissimo .

If you’ve cruised with us before, you know Lido ... but aboard Mardi Gras ® this poolside zone features even more delicious and fun experiences among the familiar flavors. Evolving the classic poolside rum-bar was a tall order, but RedFrog Tiki Bar will be serving up the good stuff across two decks’ worth of South Pacific atmosphere. Also first-time-fresh is Street Eats , bringing together highlights from the world’s fast-good cuisine like kebab, bao buns and seriously upgraded fries. Shaq’s latest Big Chicken ™ restaurant is here, and fan-fave spots like Guy’s Burger Joint ™ , the New England-inspired Seafood Shack ™ , and BlueIguana Cantina ™ taco spot aren’t done with your taste buds yet. And for folks hoping we haven’t forgotten: yes, Lido is absolutely home to one of two Swirls ™ locations, the free soft-serve spot!

THE ULTIMATE PLAYGROUND

Don't let the name fool you — this zone is ages everybody and up. Kids, you're going to love this. And adults, the playground has grown up with you. So yay for play! Of course The Ultimate Playground starts with BOLT ® , the first rollercoaster at sea, an all-electric thrill ride that puts the power of speed in your hands. But that's only the beginning — this playground has the largest Carnival WaterWorks ™ ever with three huge spiraling slides, plus SportSquare ™ is here featuring an entire mini-golf course, full-court basketball and a ropes course. And, of course, more. Ultimate enough for you?

INSPIRED BY ALL THE BEST STUFF

Mardi Gras ® is full of fun new ways to spend your time, but definitely isn’t leaving the fan favorites ashore.

BOLT: ULTIMATE SEA COASTER

Aboard Mardi Gras ® you’ll meet BOLT ® : the fastest — and first! — rollercoaster at sea. Strap in and zoom your motorcycle-style speed machine around an open-air course high, high above sea level. You know how on most rollercoasters... actually, never mind. Forget other coasters because this all-electric thrill ride puts you in the driver’s seat. That means you actually get to control how fast you go, so hit the gas and try for the fastest time, go for the biggest thrill — plus some amazing 360° ocean views! And for the folks who choose to chill: go light on the pedal, and this just might be the coaster for you!

The Brass Magnolia

Think about the fruity Hurricane cocktail or the stately Sazerac — for ages now, these hometown heroes have been ambassadors for New Orleans ‘credo of fun, flavor and just plain good times. So of course we’ll be serving up classics like these at The Brass Magnolia! You’ll also find a swingin’ jazz trio keeping things nice and hot … and it takes only one look at the décor to feel as if you just stepped into an elegant Southern estate. So come on down and let a white-coated bartender know what your pleasure is. Among the menu of Crescent City mainstays, we suggest starting off with a true connoisseur’s local favorite … the Brandy Crusta .

Fortune Teller

If you’ve strolled along New Orleans’ French Quarter in the evening, you’re not alone in feeling that mysteries and surprises lie around every corner. A French Quarter-styled zone on a new ship wouldn’t be complete without an unassuming little bar that feels like it’s always been there. On Mardi Gras ® , that’s Fortune Teller! Spirits truly abound here, and our unnaturally talented bartenders will be pleased to conjure up recipes like the all-black New Moon , the changes-color-before-your-eyes Abracadabra and the Golden Galaxy … actually made with a bit of real gold. Call us supernatural, but we’re sensing vacation fun in your future.

Family Feud Live

The show has been delighting viewers at home for generations, but you never had the chance to buzz-in on a cruise ship… until now! Carnival ships are the only place you’ll find Family Feud™ Live, and on every sailing we’ll be hosting games on an authentic Family Feud™ set — right down to the iconic Face-Off podium, plus all the excitement of Fast Money. Family Feud Live will be emceed by none other than your cruise director, so if you’re game, sign up your team of five for an audition… and make sure they bring that Family Feud spirit. And, of course, everybody’s welcome to grab a seat in the audience to catch all the hilarious action!

RedFrog Tiki Bar

Let's recap what we know about the mysterious RedFrog so far. He's cute, he knows how to chill… and flavor is everything to the little guy. We only just found out about the years he spent soaking up the sun among the grass skirts and frangipani flowers of the South Pacific where, he would tell you, it’s easy being red. You'll find some of his favorite recipes from those days on menu at the first-ever RedFrog ® Tiki Bar — sip a Polynesian Punch, try a Jungle Bird, or get a little tongue-twisted ordering a Red's Rum Jumper. This poolside bar on Mardi Gras ® spans two decks and transports you right to the land of Tiki.

For those who flock to waterparks just ready to make a splash, we’d suggest sliding on over to WaterWorks ™ aboard Mardi Gras ® . Three large-scale spiraling slides, a giant dumping bucket, twin racing slides and more — you know, the works — are all practically overflowing for your hydro-delight. When you spot the big slides on board you’ll see that they mean business, splashy business: Blue Lightning ™ is packed with headfirst, high-speed twists and turns, while Orange Thunder ™ starts you off standing before propelling you down into a world of wetness… and of course, our signature Twister ™ slide keeps on thrilling splash-seekers.

HAVANA BAR & POOL

On Mardi Gras ® you'll find the Havana Bar ™ & Pool. Good find — the relaxation pool is an exclusive retreat to paradise, and the bar becomes a hot dance spot when the sun goes down. Grab a seat at the bar and order up a handcrafted Cuban cocktail like a traditional daiquiri or classic mojito. This bar is just steps from the pool, whose ocean view and atmosphere mingles with the bar's own, for a bit of that old-time Cuban resort flavor.

SERENITY ADULT-ONLY RETREAT

Somebody at Carnival knows just what you need, and it's pretty much exactly the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat ™ . Look, you'll still be on the same ship as the kids, the hoopla, and all the Carnival-style excitement... but you could easily forget, because when you're at Serenity you could not be further from it all. The world you'll find yourself in is one of complete peace, sea breezes and, of course, a nearby bar. It's the place to get done the kind of stuff you just can't seem to do anywhere else — reconnect with your partner, finish that book, or do absolutely, blissfully, nothing at all.

CLOUD 9 SPA

True or false: cruises are a time for relaxation. Our answer: whether you're all action all the time, or chill to the core, everybody needs a chance to take it easy! And nobody will find an easier spot than Cloud 9 Spa ™ aboard Mardi Gras ® . This is an oasis built from the ground up for relaxation, from a full complement of traditional spa services like massages, facials, body wraps to the carefully-designed climates of Cloud 9's thermal suites... rooms swirling with moist or dry air, each heated very precisely. It turns out it's true: anyone can find a reason to say 'ahhh' at Mardi Gras's Cloud 9 Spa.

PLAYLIST PRODUCTIONS

When was the last time you got up and grooved... at the theater? Playlist Productions ™ takes songs you know and presents them like you’ve never known them before. Past favorites become full-blown musical productions featuring multi-talented performers absolutely bringing down the house with song, dance... and superstar attitude. With tunes from fan-favorite divas, crooners or rockers, each show has a different theme — and of course, a completely different playlist! Get ready for heartfelt emotions, straight-up bouncy fun, or something in-between — all types are welcome to get down here.

WISH MARDI GRAS ® HAD EVEN MORE FUN?

INSPIRED BY BOTH MMM & YUM!

Whether it’s casual munching or sit-down elegance you’re hungry for, we can’t wait to share all this dining variety with you.

You’ll detect some delicious Chinese and Mexican culinary traditions in the atmosphere at Chibang! ™ , our new restaurant… but even more importantly, you’ll notice them on your plate! We’ve brought together favorite dishes from the two cuisines, into an amazing menu that invites you to spread your culinary wings across the Pacific. Try a little from each side by mixing, matching and sharing in a dinner of flavor explorations. (Plus cocktails made from authentic ingredients!) Or stop in to Chibang! for a casual lunch that features noodle and burrito bowls based on our favorite ingredients from both of these worlds. Tip: Great news! Your first meal at Chibang! is on the house… and additional visits are just $8.

Rudi’s Seagrill

Rudi’s Seagrill ™ is the brainchild of cookbook author and master chef Rudi Sodamin. He has years of experience pleasing palates of vacationers… and this guy loves serving up a smile as much as Carnival does! But he’s serious about seafood, and an evening at Rudi’s proves it through the courses. Enjoy selections like seafood bisque and crab-stuffed lobster tail imperial — all served with an elegant flair that pays proper tribute to the beauty of the ocean from which so much fun, and flavor, arises.

Street Eats

Some of the world’s favorite flavors aren’t found in restaurants, but on the street in trucks, stalls and carts where flavor, convenience... and quality matter. That’s right, when you’re just feet from the chef, you know they’re cooking to impress! Street Eats is Carnival’s tribute to this food phenomenon, debuting aboard Mardi Gras ® with three ever-changing open-air stations. The first, Steam Dream , specializes in the steamiest stuff this side of the spa, featuring favorites like bao buns and pot stickers. Then there’s Mad Sizzle , which puts the “skill” in skillet with the likes of kebab and satay. And we’re definitely not about to forget Time Fries , which serves up every cruiser’s dream: fries loaded up with culinary creations from our chefs, like cheesesteak fries! On Mardi Gras you may be far from the street, but flavor’s right around the corner.

Emeril’s Bistro 1396

Mardi Gras ® sets sail with Emeril Lagasse's first-ever restaurant at sea: Emeril's Bistro 1396 ™ . Everybody knows about Emeril's love for Creole cuisine, and now you'll enjoy the authentic bayou flavors and fun New Orleans is known for on your vacation. If you haven't had the pleasure, we're talking about fried oysters, duck & sausage gumbo, po-boy sandwiches, fresh ceviche and more. We're serving up Emeril's faves all day… and because flavors this big don't just sleep in, we do some great ones for breakfast too! Raw bar, incredible desserts and Crescent City atmosphere round out the experience.

Big Chicken

When Shaq tells you to build a chicken joint on board, you start warming up immediately. The big guy brings his poultry know-how and good taste to the seas with Big Chicken ™ on Mardi Gras ® . Just like Shaq’s a multitalented entertainer, his restaurant is no one-trick chick. Step up to the counter for lunch or dinner and walk away with your choice of chicken sandwiches, crispy chicken strips or juicy fried chicken baskets... plus side dishes like potato salad and jalapeño slaw. Early-morning buzzer-beaters are invited to enjoy a breakfast of classics like chicken biscuits, a three-cheese omelet or our biscuit/egg combo featuring bacon or sausage. Snoozers are invited, too — breakfast is served until 3!

Bonsai Teppanyaki

It’s a meal, a performance, and it’s definitely unforgettable. The Bonsai Teppanyaki ™ experience is set to delight guests aboard Mardi Gras ® . Take a little time out of vacation to sit down to a selection of tempting appetizers, before your chef prepares the main course featuring selections of meats, tofu, fish, shrimp or lobster… right at your table. In the teppanyaki tradition — and Carnival’s tradition of fun — expect an interactive, satisfying meal full of surprise and delicious delight.

Bonsai Sushi

So maybe you’ve had sushi before, but have you tried it at Bonsai Sushi ™ ? This is Carnival’s onboard seafood-and-soy-sauce spot, and we think you’ll enjoy our latest location, aboard Mardi Gras ® . Dine indoors or out amidst carefully-pruned bonsai trees, while enjoying a delectable menu with sit-down service. Rounding out the meal: soups, sides, sakes and desserts. So the next time you’re taking a stroll down the onboard promenade, stop at Bonsai Sushi for a roll, a box or maybe order a whole sushi ship — seaborne satisfaction for two.

Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse

With choices like brisket, sausage, baby back ribs and dry-rubbed chicken, our pros do the smoking right there over hickory wood before serving them up at your table. You’re in Guy Fieri’s house — Mardi Gras ® has Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse ™ . Now about the brews: this house of BBQ tradition doesn’t just satisfy your hunger — you’ll also enjoy our all-new, exclusive line of Parched Pig ™ craft brews. There’s a smoked porter, a farmhouse ale, a hoppy IPA and a toasted amber, all brewed just feet from your table. Tip: Come by and check out the free menu at lunchtime, plus live music and lively atmosphere all day.

Seafood Shack

A good seafood dish… mmm, quite the catch. However you like yours — roll, bowl or platter — Seafood Shack ™ is Mardi Gras's place for you to cast your net. Imagine a seaside spot in New England, where the locals gather for great meals served with a bit of a breeze and a lot of a view. (That said, nowhere on land will you get 360-degree ocean views like ours!) Look to Seafood Shack for rustic favorites like Crab Cake Sliders, Lobster BLT, Fried Buffalo Shrimp, Snow Crab and more. Steer a course for Mardi Gras ® ... that’s where you’ll find this little shack by the sea, wherever in the world you happen to be!

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse

Haute cuisine meets atmosphere at Fahrenheit 555 ™ , a dining experience that stands toe-to-toe with some of the best steakhouses on land. Except this one’s at sea — aboard Mardi Gras ® . Ours features your choice of steak cuts, lobster, lamb and more… and inside, there’s even a full bar that pours great pairings. These are the building blocks of an amazing experience — delectable elements that combine with great service to offer an evening to remember.

Cucina del Capitano

At Cucina del Capitano ® on Mardi Gras ® , who you’ve got gathered around the table is truly as important as what’s being served there. At our table you’ll enjoy delicious Italian favorites — we serve them family-style because we know that sharing large plates and sharing tales of your day’s adventures goes hand-in-hand. Speaking of which, our walls are adorned with old snapshots from our officers’ family albums, proving that the rustic Italian-farmhouse atmosphere definitely isn’t for show. Tip: Great news! NOT HUNGRY YET?

INSPIRED BY COMFORT ITSELF

Mardi Gras’ staterooms are major innovations in the field of helping you get ready for fun, or relaxing after a long day. (No joke — we studied it!)

STATEROOM DESIGN

Design is more than just the way things look — it's as much about how they work. And staterooms aboard Mardi Gras ® are packed with innovative changes to both. It's the way the ring-lit vanity mirror lights you evenly and shadow-free as you get ready. How the ottoman cushion flips over to serve as an extra table. And even those reading lights, recessed into the wall so you can read in bed without waking anyone! These details are really more than just details. Better comfort, lighting and storage all spring from a deep understanding we've developed around how people actually use their staterooms… and how small changes to the room add up to make the experience that much better. (Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look.

Havana Staterooms & Suites

Consider your Havana stateroom or suite your own island resort aboard Mardi Gras ® . Most important is the exclusive location: near the Havana Bar & Pool. This relaxation pool is your members-only spot, and the bar's a fun-for-all hotspot when the sun goes down. Indoors, all Havana staterooms feature a unique décor, but step up to a Havana Cabana for an extra-large outdoor chill space. Step into a Havana Cabana suite for even more space, plus a luxurious rain shower. (All Havana stateroom guests must be 12 or older.)

Cloud 9 Spa Staterooms & Suites

Cloud 9 Spa ™ staterooms on Mardi Gras ® feature exclusive décor and in-room amenities to help soothe you after a long day’s fun — spa bathrobes and slippers, plus toiletries by Elemis. Book one of these staterooms and enjoy priority spa reservations, unlimited access to the thermal suites, free fitness classes, exclusive discounts and more! And you can have comfort and value — Mardi Gras’s got a full range of Cloud 9 staterooms in all sizes, from cozy Interiors to stretch-out Suites.

Family Harbor Staterooms & Suites

Family Harbor staterooms, with their unique nautical décor, can be found near Mardi Gras’ own Family Harbor Lounge — an exclusive spot with breakfast, snacks during the day, plus board games, family movies, video games and more. The benefits don’t end there — your little girls and boys eat free in most onboard specialty restaurants and get a free evening of Night Owls babysitting service, so you can enjoy a little alone time.

Interior Staterooms

Here’s the most affordable way to experience Mardi Gras ® , without cutting even a single corner in the comfort department. With an Interior stateroom you’ll get a full private bathroom, your choice of bed size and layout — covered in linens you can feel at home in — all of which make this truly a great spot for curling up after a long day’s fun. Get all the comfy details about Interior staterooms on Mardi Gras.

Ocean View Staterooms

These comfy rooms with a view let you take in the scenery as you sail toward your beautiful destinations. And how about those views? Nowhere on land will you find anything like ‘em. But the views aren’t all that matters here — Ocean View staterooms on Mardi Gras ® are a little bit bigger than Interior rooms and most feature a supremely loungeable couch for those times when neither lying nor standing will do. Get all the comfy details about Ocean View staterooms on Mardi Gras.

Balcony Staterooms

Balcony staterooms are proof that while it’s great to be cruisey… on vacation, breeziness is a virtue too. And any time you’re in your well-appointed Balcony stateroom aboard Mardi Gras ® , you’re just steps away from the outdoors by way of your private open-air oasis. Designed for kicking back al fresco, you’re in for some amazing ocean views… views so stunning you’ll just have to feel ‘em to believe ‘em. Get all the comfy details about Balcony staterooms on Mardi Gras.

Get all the comforts of home, and even a few extras. Since your huge Suite on Mardi Gras ® affords you VIP status, you're in the priority line when getting on and off the ship… plus Suites come with exclusive perks! (Carnival Excel Suites pack even more, like concierge service and access to Loft 19™.) A Suite is the ultimate way to enjoy the ship, and the extra comfort definitely goes a long way, with more room to put your feet up or stretch out on the extra-large balcony. Get all the comfy details about Suites on Mardi Gras.

Loft 19 ™ was designed to afford you a unique opportunity for relaxation and indulgence. This retreat-style space invites you to soak up the sun all day from the comfort of a lounge chair or infinity whirlpool. This pairs so perfectly with Carnival Excel suites that staying in one actually gets you Loft 19 access! Drink service is always close at hand, plus you can even opt for a little private time — renting a cabana gets you more than just a place in the shade, but extras like fresh fruit, chilled towels, lunch delivery and concierge service. (Cabana rentals are open to everyone, though guests in Carnival Excel-level suites enjoy priority reservations.)

IND Architects to Renovate Historic Water Tower in Moscow

IND Architects has plans to transform the symbolic Shcherbinka water tower in Moscow, Russia into a revitalized area for residents to socialize. Since the water tower has been only slightly altered over time with the overall form and silhouette remaining the same, the design team has decided to create a place that will both aim to recall old memories and create new ones.

To activate the historical interior space of the water tower, IND Architects created a number of spaces including areas where exhibitions can be on display, meetings and conferences can be held, and other events can occur in flexible, multipurpose rooms. The program also includes a café, a co-working area, and a large hall that features an opening façade to the landscape space. In the warmer seasons, concerts and sports events can be organized here.

The design of the water tower also placed a strong emphasis on how visitors will move through the volume and be able to experience all of the different areas. They will first enter the elevator and be taken to the top floor, and circulate down the stairs, passing and observing each program.

The water tower is lined with glass, allowing plenty of light to flow in and connect the visitors back to the landscape. At night, the tower will radiate a soft glow, showing the interesting programs and events happening inside.

  1. New boarding pass with zone number

2.7k. March 9, 2018. #1. Posted December 17, 2018. I have heard that the boarding passes are changing again, this time with the addition of a zone to wait in before boarding starts. This would be in lieu of the zone cards that some ports give out. I would expect no changes to the priority ones, but for non priority passengers yes.

  2. How many boarding zones are there

Florida. #2. Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) I see you are from California, so assume you are cruising out of Long Beach. Zone A01 will board immediately after priority boarding. There was a major problem when it comes to getting on a cruise ship, and Carnival has sought to fix it. If you've taken a cruise before, think back to your last embarkation day. There was that rush of excitement. You couldn't wait to get onboard, find your room, grab a drink, and explore the ship. In fact, even though you likely had a 3-4 hour boarding window (usually from 12:00-4:00 on cruise ...

January 27, 2010. #6. Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) I agree the above posts are realistic times on a normal day. Events can and do happen out of anyone's control that will push embarkation much later in the day. Our last cruise out of Mobile we were group A1, suite priority, and we boarded at approximately 4:30 in the afternoon.

April 14, 2013. #7. Posted April 17, 2022. Boarded Mardi Gras on 4/2 with a 5900+ capacity. The worst part of embarkation was the line to park.
