You will be warmly greeted at the hotel. Then you will be provided additional information about the further trip and we will collect your needed documents for our official purposes. After a short preliminary meeting, either stay or take a rest at the hotel or hang around the city in the evening to explore the local areas. It depends upon your interest and conditions. Enjoy the Nepali delicious food before the nap. (Welcome dinner & hotel accommodation included)

Our tour leader will come for the pre-trip meeting in the morning which includes briefing and preparation for today’s trip after breakfast. Then you will be headed for the full day sightseeing of the capital city Kathmandu which is the city of temples and the world heritage sites. Our local tour leaders will lead you to the 3 famous and interesting places of Kathmandu valley within World heritage sites.

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. It takes about 7 hours by tourist bus. You can take the beautiful views of the mountains and the local areas from the bus. After reaching Pokhara, you will be escorted to the hotel. Pokhara is one of the best tourist destinations in Nepal. You will feel your peaceful heart exposing the craziness towards the beautiful nature. Then have some rest and then take the view of beautiful lakes and magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Machhapuhare along the five peaks of Annapurna. You can also explore the local places and their culture. Stay and overnight in a hotel at Pokhara. (Breakfast, lunch & hotel accommodation included)

Today after breakfast, we drive to Nayapul (New Bridge) for taking about 2 hours driving by our private cars with the driver to start our trek. From Nayapul we follow the south bank of the river. After several hours we pass through the sub tropical valley forests, sometimes on the carved trail on the side of the cliff. We continuing and cross the Modi Khola River via a suspension bridge to the village Tikhedhunga for the overnight. If the time allow we can trek further along the trial quite steep at times and reached at Ulleri by late afternoon for the overnight.  (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

We make our ascents to the Ghorepani village. The name Ghorepani in Nepali means horse water owing to its role as an important campsite for the traders before it became a trekker’s teahouse. Ghodepani is an interesting place with small shops and stalls for selling local products and craft. The town has two parts; one is a saddle and other a few hundred feet lower. Since Ghodepani lies quite higher than a previous stop, we begin to feel chilly weather especially in the evenings. We overnight in Ghodepani with beautiful view of Annapurna & Dhaulagiri mountain range. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

Today is a special day because we conquer the Pun hills an icon of the Annapurna region. The route offers a glimpse of the pleasant rhododendron forest. This brilliant viewpoint provides us an obstructed sunrise over the high Himalayas and the wide range of panoramic scenery from the far western Himalayan of Dolpo, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna including Mt. Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and all the way to Manaslu. After a great time return back to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue trek to Tadapani overnight. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

Today’s trail descends to Kimrong Khola (A small mountain river) through the forest of rhododendron. We then walk towards Chhomrong crossing through the Gurjung village where we can have our lunch. Chhomrong village offers you a close view of Mt Annapurna south and Hiunchuli and the virgin peak Mount Fishtail (Machhapuchhre) along with a long terrace village settlement. Chhomrong is the biggest Gurung settlement in this area. We overnight in Chhomrong at a tea house. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

After breakfast, our trail descent to the Chhomrong Khola, and the trial lead us to the small place of Sinuwa hill. After that, the trek enters the upper Modi Khola valley. After lunch, we continue our trek going down to Bamboo through a non habited forest area to Dovan. Dovan means a confluence of rivers where 2 small rivers met. We climb to Dovan crossing through silent bamboo & rhododendron forest. We reach Dovan after 5 hrs walk and stay at the teahouse. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

A trek of the narrow Modi Khola valley will bring you almost to the base of Machhapuchhre base camp. Today we climb past the Machhapuchhre base camp which is not really a base camp since climbing the mountain is not permitted to the Annapurna base camp. This area is called an Annapurna sanctuary since it is totally surrounded by mountains. After taking lunch to Deurali trekking to Machhapuchhre base camp for about 2 hours working through the magnificent Mountain View. Here you stand in the sanctuary, the 360-degree views are breathtaking. Overnight stay with the closest view of Machhapuchhre along Annapurna I and Gangapurna.

After breakfast, this day leads you to the heart of the sanctuary at the Annapurna base camp for an overnight stay. The trail follows uphill for few hours passing a few roofless shepherds' huts along the side of the moraine and this area is windy and often snowbound. This is superb scenery of the Himalayas and can be seen rarely the amazing panoramic view of snow-capped mountains surrounding you. The remaining you have time to see, explore and relax at the base camp which feels like your heaven of the Planet Earth. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

Your trial leads to the Khuldi Ghar to Sinuwa hill where your continuity treks up to the Chhomrong village and after a meal we descent 2 hrs to the Jhinu for the overnight. There you can enjoy a bath in the hot pool and visit a natural hot spring as well.  (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

ALTITUDE SICKNESS (ACUTE MOUNTAIN SICKNESS)

Altitude sickness, also known as AMS (acute mountain sickness), is caused by a lack of oxygen at high altitudes (normally above 3,000m). It occurs as the result of our bodies’ inability to adapt to a sudden increase in altitude. If given time, our bodies will adjust and a gradual ascent will decrease the possibility of altitude sickness.

PREVENTION OF AMS: Go slowly, drink a lot of water, and pay attention to the sensations of your body. If symptoms occur you have climbed too far for the day. Rest at the same altitude will give you time to acclimatize and usually relieve mild symptoms.

MILD SYMPTOMS: Headache, nausea, loss of appetite, and mild shortness of breath with minimal exertion, difficulty sleeping, dizziness or lightheadedness, mild weakness, fatigue, a general unwell feeling.

SERIOUS SYMPTOMS: The inability to recover from shortness of breath with rest, severe persistent headache, low urine output, vomiting, confusion, delirium, loss of coordination. These require immediate descent as acclimatization will not take place at the same altitude.

The key is to trek slowly, carry a light pack and just take it easy. Allow your body the time it needs to acclimatize.

A lifetime experience

It was the most unforgettable trekking trip I've ever taken. ABC is really gratifying in every way. This is the second time I've done it. Maybe one day I'll do it again. Every time you take a different route, you'll get a new experience. From Himalaya to ABC, the vista is incredible.

Great Trek with Amazing Landscape

We had a group of 5, and AAT helped us manage everything from accommodation to duffle bags as we had no past trekking experience. The guide was very helpful and entertaining.

Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve Trek

The trekking is fantastic! It went just as planned, the organization was flawless, and Puru was extremely helpful and accommodating. He responds quickly and clearly, and he knows what he's talking about. We strongly advise you to travel with his firm!

On the Annapurna Circuit, you'll have a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

I had a fantastic time with Alpha Adventure! Despite the challenging weather that comes with hiking in the off-season, my guide made sure that I was able to fulfill my dream of reaching the Thorong la pass! As a solo female tourist, I felt quite safe with his extensive trekking knowledge and accommodating nature. Without the AAT crew, I would not have had the once-in-a-lifetime trekking experience. I wholeheartedly endorse it!

Amazing Experience, Highly Recommended !!

This is the most unforgettable trip we've ever taken. We didn't think 11 days would be enough to see the Annapurnas, but the way this trip was organized and carried out was incredible. Because the tour was so well-organized, we thoroughly loved every minute of the trip and didn't feel like we were missing out on anything because of the time constraints. We didn't have to worry about our pace because it was a private guided trip. We saw the beautiful Annapurna foothills, visited towns, and met some new acquaintances along the route. I'll be eternally grateful to AAT for this quick yet well-organized trip.

Amazing Trek experience !!

I completed the Annapurna Circuit and had a fantastic time. The circuit is a little touristy, but the scenery is breathtaking, and it is much less crowded in the off-season; the weather is still pleasant in May. I always had a nice vibe traveling with Alpha Adventure Treks because everyone I met was so friendly and welcoming.

Fabulous Trek !!

Trekking to Khopra Ridge was an incredible adventure! We liked how it was a little off the beaten road. It was not at all crowded. We had the impression that we had the mountains to ourselves.

My First Trek Experience !!!

A trip to remember! My first trek was so much fun and exciting thanks to all of your aid from "Alpha Adventure Treks" and their excellent management! A kind and professional guide who knows practically everything there is to know about the area. I hope to see you guys again soon! incredibly pleased with the staff.

Visit to ghalegaun village homestay

We had a fantastic time at Ghalegaun Village Homestay. The locals in the village were quite nice and created a lovely and welcoming atmosphere, as well as excellent food. Our overnight stay at the homestay was equally fantastic and unforgettable.

A fantastic guide and a once-in-a-lifetime adventure

With Yuvi as our guide, we had the most incredible tour. Everything was taken care of by the firm, from hotel pickup to excursions like a sight-seeing flight to Everest. We were in wonderful hands the entire time and felt protected.

Almost too much to comprehend

We had a good view of this spectacular mountain from afar, which added to its majesty. Our Nepalese guide spoke about it with reverence, and we were enslaved by it as well. Climbing this behemoth is both awe-inspiring and terrifying, and neglecting to be humble can lead to death.

The ideal times for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These periods typically have stable weather, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, ensuring a pleasant trekking experience.

Embarking on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is an exhilarating experience, but it’s essential to assess if this adventure aligns with your physical capabilities and personal preferences. Determining if you’re ready involves understanding the physical preparedness required for 13 days of hiking, often for up to 8 hours a day, and reaching altitudes exceeding 4,000 meters. Awareness and preparation for altitude sickness are crucial, so you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the symptoms and preventive measures. Additionally, being in peak physical condition is paramount. You don’t need to be an athlete, but a certain level of fitness is required to enjoy and complete the trek safely. Engage in regular training leading up to your trip, focusing on cardio exercises and strength training to ensure you’re adequately prepared. It’s not just about stamina; it’s about acclimatizing your body to such heights.

Throughout the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, trekkers can find various teahouses and lodges for accommodation. These establishments offer basic amenities like beds, blankets, and meals. The quality of accommodations can range from simple and rustic lodges to more comfortable and well-furnished teahouses.

Altitude sickness can be a potential issue on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, especially as elevations exceed 4,000 meters (13,000 feet). Proper acclimatization, achieved by ascending slowly and taking rest days at specific intervals, is essential. Drinking ample water, avoiding alcohol, and being vigilant about altitude sickness symptoms are also crucial.

Indeed, several side trips and attractions can be added to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary. A popular detour is the hike to Poon Hill, renowned for its sweeping views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Additionally, trekkers can relax in the hot springs at Jhinu Danda or delve into the cultural richness of villages like Ghandruk and Chhomrong.

We recommend booking your tour as soon as possible to secure a spot, as accommodations along the trail tend to fill up quickly. This will help you ensure that you have a place to stay during your trip.

In the event of an injury, it is best to call local emergency services. While you may be in a remote area and unable to continue without further exacerbating your injury, it is important to remember that you will be hiking along popular trails and will not be completely stranded.

However, if you are feeling too tired to continue hiking, you can choose to reroute toward the nearest town along the trail and find public transportation there.

Cell phone reception in the mountains can be unreliable. You may be able to get a signal if you can see a town or if you are near a mountain hut. Even if you cannot get a signal inside the hut, you may be able to get one by stepping outside. Wi-fi is not widely available in the mountains and is only offered at select lodges.

If you dress appropriately, you can typically complete most stages of the hike even in light rain. However, if a storm is forecasted, it is important to not hike and to wait until the storm passes, even if that means spending an additional day at the hut. This is for your own safety.

Most accommodations offer vegetarian meal options, although vegan options may be more difficult to find in huts. However, we will let you know in advance if there are any vegan options available so that you can plan accordingly.

In addition to the essential items such as hiking shoes, a backpack, and sports clothes, there are several other important items you should pack for your trek.

Check out our comprehensive list of recommended equipment.

While we do not require you to have insurance before booking, we strongly recommend that you do.

Mountain huts may not be luxurious, but they are cozy and comfortable, offering warm beds, delicious meals, and toilets. You can choose between private rooms and dormitories, but it is important to book in advance if you want to avoid sharing a room with other people. Keep in mind that huts are popular and can fill up quickly, so it is best to plan ahead to secure your preferred accommodation.

As long as children are physically prepared for long hiking days and are sure-footed, they should not have any problems participating in the tour. We recommend that children be at least eight years old in order to ensure their safety and enjoyment of the experience.

None of the stages offer any shortcuts if you want to get to the end of your hike. If you get too tired, you can conclude your hike sooner at one of the road-equipped mountain passes or head for the nearest town.

A beautiful array of snow-covered peaks, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Fishtail, and Hinchuli, begin to appear. From Kimrong, you have to descend about 400 m sharply to Kimrong Khola, through dense covers of Oak and Rhododendron trees. The route henceforth goes uphill until Chhomrong (a 4-5 hours hike). Chhomrong is situated at the base of the Hiunchuli mountains and you will see picture-perfect hilly settlements surrounded by green banana fields, rhododendrons, ferns, etc. are seen throughout. Chhomrong lies on a hilltop having stone paved stairs. It is the gateway to Annapurna Sanctuary and permits are granted here. You can also see Sinuwa Village on the opposite side of the mountain. The sights of Annapurna South become prominent. Again there are numerous tea houses and shops selling batteries, memory cards, and other accessories. Watch the peaceful sunset on the Annapurna range and rest for the day.

Welcome another amazing morning in the lush green hilly setup. Start with a descent on 2500 stone-built stairs leading to a bridge. The hanging bridge then takes you to Chomrung Khola, which seems like entering into dense forests. The Sanctuary is flourished with rhododendrons, oak, and alpine trees. Therefore the trail looks lush and adorned with reddish-pink flowers.

Climb up the stairs to the other side of the mountain to Sinuwa Village. Below, you can see the Chomorng River gushing away with a torrential force. The trail is steep to Sinuwa village. Sinuwa is marked with a few teahouses and lodges. It is enclosed between thin forest cover. Past these points, the donkeys are not permitted on the trail and the goods are then carried by the porters from this point on. Annapurna III comes into clear visibility here. Another climb opens to Kulidhar then a downhill hike ends at Bamboo camp.

The bamboo campsite does not offer as many mountain views as other teahouse stops as it is at a lower altitude than the surrounding mountains. However, you may see a lot of Bamboo plants around the campsite. Rest well in Bamboo and tomorrow we will make our way to the stunning Machapuchhare Base Camp.

But in the rare event that we do call off or cancel a trek due to any unforeseen circumstances or natural catastrophes like continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that prevents us from carrying out a trek in a safe manner, unforeseeable circumstances like local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any such situations that prevents a safe trekking experience, TTH will issue a voucher summing up to the same amount as your trek fee. The voucher can be redeemed on any of the treks over a period of the next year.

  • If the entirety of your group fails to reach or cross the pickup point, or abandons the trek, due to any unforeseen circumstances like snowfall or heavy rainfall, landslide, and such, in such a case the voucher will not be issued. You can, however, choose to repeat the trek with us.

Vouchers are issued only when the whole trek is cancelled or called off on behalf of TTH.

In the rare event that TTH shifts a trek:

As we mention always, weather conditions at high altitudes are extremely unpredictable and can change at any time of any day. Also, situations like natural calamities or political unrest, pandemics and lockdowns, etc are out of our control and if an event cannot run under any such circumstances that we do not directly have control over then we will try to give you an alternative trek, which means your trek will be shifted from one trek to another, which will be safer and more favourable.

In these cases, a voucher is issued to mitigate the difference in cost between the two treks. You can redeem the voucher at any time over a period of one year from the date of issue. A refund fee or refund of the difference is not applicable.

Comprehensive Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Your journey to the ABC trek starts from an early bus to Pokhara from Kathmandu on a tourist bus. Pokhara is the tourist capital of Nepal, and we are sure that you will be impressed by the beauty of Pokhara. From Pokhara (820m / 2,690ft), you can catch great views of many mountains and fantastic lakes.

The second day begins with a drive from Pokhara via Birethanti (1039m / 3,250ft) to Tikhedunga and real trekking starts from Tikhedhunga, from where we take a trail that passes through paddy fields along the Modi River to reach Ulleri (1,540m / 5,050ft)- the destination for this day.

The next day's trek takes you to Ghorepani (2,860m / 9,385ft). Ghorepani provides spectacular views of Mt Annapurna massifs, Dhaulagiri , Tukuche, Dhampas, Nilgiri, Barash Sikhar, and Machhapuchre (Fishtail).

The fourth day will be special, as on this day you will reach the famous Poon Hill viewpoint itself. To make the most out of Poon Hill (3,210m / 10,525ft), we will wake up early in the morning and hike to Poon Hill to catch the dawn breaking at more than 32 ranges of the Annapurna , along with Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. After soaking in the grand sceneries from Poon Hill, we head to Tadapani (2,630m / 8,630ft) for the night.

After a night at Tadapani, early morning, you will leave Tadapani for Chomrong (2,165m / 7,105ft). The path takes you through Ghandruk, which descends to the Kirmron River, and you will continue the hike to Chomrong. Chomrong is a popular overnight stop for ABC trekkers.

The following day, you will wake up at Chomrong, have breakfast, and start trekking to the Himalayas (2,890m / 9,425ft). The path follows the Chomrong River through a picturesque village and ascends to Modi River Valley until you reach the Himalayas for the night.

On the seventh day, you will leave the Himalayas and hike to the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Annapurna Base Camp height is 4,130m. ABC provides mind-blowing views of glaciers, mountain ranges from Hiunchuli , Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8,097m/26,566ft), Gangapurna, Khangsar Kang, Annapurna III, and Machhapuchhare . We will be spending our night at the Base Camp itself.

The next day will take you out of Annapurna Sanctuary as you retrace your steps out of Modi River Valley to a serene stop point called Bamboo, where you will stay for the night. The following morning, you leave Bamboo and trek to Jhinu Danda (1,780m / 6,393ft). Jhinu Danda hosts natural hot springs where you can relax and soothe your tired muscles.

If everything goes fine, on the tenth day, you leave Jhinu Danda following the Modi Khola to reach Ghandruk Phedi (1,150m / 3,770ft). From Ghandruk Phedi / Siwa, we will drive you to Pokhara via Nayapul. This is your last day in the trekking region, and you will spend a night at a hotel in Pokhara. Early morning, the next day, we will return to Kathmandu on a tourist bus .

Trekking Annapurna Base Camp is not particularly strenuous but still lets you see the unparalleled natural beauty in the Himalayan (Annapurna) region as the Annapurna Base Camp altitude is only 4,130m. Hence, we invite you to trek to Annapurna Base Camp and experience the Nepali landscapes.

Why Annapurna Base Camp?

While trekking at Annapurna Base Camp, you will pass through diverse terrain, observe traditional highland culture, and experience different climates. You will also catch spectacular views of the Annapurna range, Macchapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri.

The ABC Trek is also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek because you walk inside the Annapurna Conservation area. Annapurna Sanctuary is home to diverse flora, fauna, and ethnic Gurung and Magar villages, and it sits surrounded by the Annapurna ranges.

Due to its unique terrain, the sanctuary consists of a flourishing Himalayan ecosystem with drier regions. The region also consists of dainty Thakali villages at the Annapurna mountain foothills. Terraced paddy farms, thick pine and bamboo forests, and tranquility surrounding you throughout your trek can transport you to another time away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.

Annapurna Base Camp trek starts with a 6-7 hours bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara (approx 200km), but you can fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara for an extra cost. We also recommend our clients arrive in Kathmandu by 3 p.m. one day before the trip departure date for last-minute preparations. If, in case, you missed the online trip briefing, it will also provide us time to conduct an in-person briefing. Please note the itinerary below is a general guideline that might need slight alterations according to circumstances.

Typical day

Each trekking day brings you new experiences. You will visit new places, see stunning landscapes, meet locals, and learn about their traditions and culture. Our guides will provide you with information about the places as you visit them.

The trek begins around seven to eight am, depending on the trek length to cover and the nature of the hike. After trekking for around three hours, we will serve you lunch often on the way to that day’s trek destination.

We will let you rest for around an hour before continuing the trek. The afternoon trek will be shorter. Once you reach that day’s destination, you can snack on your extra-dietary supplements and then explore the new destination until dark.

You can play games like cards and Monopoly, or watch videos. Some trekkers also prefer to learn light Nepali words from our crew.

Electricity and water

Electricity is readily available at the en-route shops and in lodges, you will be staying in. You can recharge your electronics from these lodges by paying a small fee. Similarly, you can easily buy packed mineral water from en-route shops.

However, trek regions can refuse you from taking plastic bottles. Hence, we advise you to bring a water bottle and fill it with boiled/filtered water. Though you will find taps, wells, and rivers in the trek region, do not drink from them. The water may not be potable.

Communication

The lodge/tea houses in the trek regions are internet-connected. Hence, you can use the internet from these lodges by paying a small fee. You can even buy a local SIM in Kathmandu, but the signals may not be strong at high altitudes.

Our office remains in contact with all trek teams via trek guide at least once a day daily through mobile to ensure that the trek is progressing as intended.

Nepali culture accepts tipping and considers it a sign of providing great service. Tipping is at the trekkers' discretion and should reflect service quality. We advise you to tip as a group at the end of the trip.

On the eleventh day, you will board a bus from Pokhara and head back to Kathmandu. The bus ride will last around seven hours. You also have the option to board a 20-minute flight to Kathmandu from Pokhara at an extra cost. Later in the evening, we will host a farewell dinner in Kathmandu.

Trek season

Weather is the most decisive factor while trekking to ABC. Though a hike to Base Camp is possible throughout the year, you will get the most comfortable weather and the best views during spring and autumn.

However, if you are adventurous, you can trek during winter or monsoon. Discovery World Trekking conducts ABC Trek throughout the year.

Here is a snapshot of weather conditions at high elevations in the ABC regions during different seasons.

  • March-May (Spring)

Spring (March-May) is one of the most favorable seasons for the Annapurna Base Camp trek. During these months, the weather is mild, the rainfall is low, and the trekking conditions are perfect. The mean daily temperature in the ABC is between 10 to 0°C. Lower trek regions are even warmer.

The temperature starts rising from mid-March up to mid-May. Spring weather is cool, the skies are clear, and you can enjoy the clearest mountain views. The trekking season begins after March and, by April, the trek route looks inviting with red, pink, and white rhododendron flowers.

  • June to August (Summer)

June to August is summer in Nepal, but it coincides with the monsoon. Though in high elevations, the temperatures are high, the rain makes the trails wet and slippery.

The day temperatures at high elevations usually range from 10°C to 23°C and get relatively colder at night ( 5°C to 10°C). Mornings are often clear, but the clouds build up in the afternoon and disappear at night. During summer, the vegetation blooms and provides lush views you cannot catch in other seasons.

  • September to November (Autumn)

Autumn (September, October, November), like spring, is a perfect season to trek to the ABC due to moderate temperatures, mild wind, and low precipitation.

During this season, the sun shines brightly, the skies are clear, and you get a superb view of the mountains. The night skies are also clear, allowing you to observe the wonderful night sky.

The monsoons will be over by early September, and the weather ranges from mild to warm days. Daytime temperatures can reach 20°C in high altitudes - the nights are colder with temperatures around 5°C.

The greens that grew during the monsoon fade to golden/amber providing a spectacular contrast against the crystal blue skies, and grains start to ripe in the terraced fields.

The environment is clean, and the lowlands are lush. The biggest festivals of Nepal - Dashain & Tihar- also fall during these seasons, letting you enjoy the festive mood.

  • December to February (Winter)

Winter (December - February) treks to the ABC are moderately popular. ABC Trek regions are cold during this season, but this excites adventurous trekkers. At the ABC, the temperature can get as low as -10°C.

The coldest time is from December to early February after late February, the weather gradually warms. Daytimes are relatively warm with plenty of sunshine.

Despite being cold, the winter skies are usually clear, mountain views are at their best with snowy caps, and the trails are the least busy. It may not be the best trek season for beginners, but experienced trekkers will have no problem.

The weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable and can change quickly.

  Trek difficulty

ABC Trek is a moderate-grade trek. The hiking is usually 6 to 7 hrs daily, with periodic breaks to soak in the stunning mountain views. The trek routes involve long climbs, steep descents, and straight roads. For the ABC hike, experience would be an added advantage, but you do not need any technical skills.

Trekkers who can hike reasonably for 6 to 7 hours with a light day pack can complete this trek. Some days require longer walking hours. So you must be reasonably fit as trekking at higher altitudes is physically demanding. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy trekking. You can complete the trek if you are in good health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude and self-confidence.

Trekkers with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood disease should inform us before booking the trek.

Trek Safety

Our itinerary is well planned, keeping in mind the acclimatization needs. We use standard gear and equipment for the trek. Our guides are wilderness first aid trained. At high altitudes, we will measure your blood oxygen saturation levels.

We make sure that our guests are trekking at their own pace and safe at all times. In emergencies, we will use your insurance to deploy a helicopter to bring you back. You will trek as a group for an added layer of group safety.

While trekking to ABC, our qualified and experienced guides/Sherpas accompany you to make your trip full of joy. Porters will carry your luggage, and if a group has more than 12 members, we add an assistant guide.  Our crew members are the local Himalayan people with high physical endurance and can easily live at high altitudes. All our staff members are precious to us. In addition to salary, we bear the cost of their insurance, clothing, food, lodging, and equipment throughout the expedition. All our guides and porters receive medical care when ill or injured. We always ensure our staff members are happy because only happy people can make others happy.  Our staff members have

  • Intensive Wilderness First Aid Training
  • Authorized Trekking Guide Training Certificate
  • Fluency in speaking English and another major language
  • Conservation and Biodiversity Training
  • Rock climbing experience

All foreigners except Indians require a valid visa to enter Nepal. You can get an on-arrival visa at Tribhuvan International Airport or border entry points.

For visa application, you need a passport valid for at least six months, a passport-size photo, and visa fees. The current visa cost for 30 days is US$50 (to be paid in cash). You can get more visa information at www.immigration.gov.np .

Chinese citizens and citizens of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) get a free visa. Children under the age of 10 will get free visas.

Some countries are not entitled to an on-arrival visa. So if you are a citizen from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan, you must contact your local Nepalese embassy.

Trek booking

Discovery World Trekking is a Nepal government-authorized, bonded trek and tour operator. We are members of the Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN), and the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

Therefore, you can book the Discovery World Trekking trips with 100% confidence. We require a 10 percent advance to book the trip. Within a week of booking your trip, please send us the necessary documents like a passport copy, passport-size photos, travel insurance policy, and arrival and departure flight details.

You can pay through bank transfer, Western Union, or online directly from our site. You can pay the remaining trip cost after arriving in Nepal in cash, bank transfer, or using your credit card. We will also email you the payment details.

You can book this EBC trek here .

Currency exchange

Nepalese Rupees (NPR) is the official currency in Nepal. (1 USD = ~130 NPR). Only NPR is honored in Nepal. Despite the security of the traveler’s cheque, we recommend you bring cash to avoid lengthy bank processes and high fees. Banks and other financial institutions will charge you 4% or more while processing your traveler’s cheque. However, if you bring cash (major currencies) you can easily exchange them for Nepali Rupees in legal cash exchanges all over Thamel in Kathmandu. These exchanges display their ongoing rates publicly. You can also withdraw money in Nepali Rupees using ATMs all over Kathmandu. However, you may have to pay NRS 500 fee to withdraw NPR 35,000.

Please note that most banks in Asia will only honor new, crisp, and fresh notes, so do not bring old, torn, or faded currency.

Extra personal expenses

This package covers most of the expenses during the trek. However, we do not cover all of them.

You would need to bring spending money to meet various expenses, such as accommodations and food in Kathmandu, meals in Pokhara, to purchase life insurance, clothing, souvenirs, energy bars, bottled water, hot (coffee, tea), cold and alcoholic beverages, etc.

We estimate you would require USD 10 - 20 per trekking day for miscellaneous things.

Travel Insurance

ABC Trek takes place at a high altitude, so there is a slight chance of altitude sickness and other unforeseen events, such as landslides, government decrees, and unfavorable weather. So, travel insurance is compulsory for the ABC trek.

All trekkers must provide a copy of their comprehensive travel insurance policy certificate to Discovery World Trekking before starting the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The policy must cover medical and emergency repatriation-inclusive of helicopter rescue and evacuation expenses at high altitudes.

We can recommend insurance companies based on our previous client experiences, but we do not sell life insurance. All trekkers must send their detailed insurance information to us after trek booking. In emergencies, we will use your insurance policy and the other documents for a quick and effective rescue operation.

Please ensure that the insurance company covers the cost incurred for mountain rescue at the highest trek elevations, along with medical fees.

We urge our clients to call the insurance provider and ensure they include helicopter rescue and evacuation up to 4,000m, in addition to medical coverage. Do not simply rely on what insurers state on their websites.

Last-minute booking

It is best to book in advance, but for those who are unable to do so, Discovery World Trekking has a special provision for a last-minute booking.  In the case of a last-minute booking, you need to make a 100% trip payment 24 hours before the trip departure date.

We do our best to operate treks at any time. But in case of last-minute booking, we can not be responsible for delay due to circumstances beyond our control, such as bad weather and lodging unavailability.

Contact us for more information (Cell/Viber/WhatsApp) at 977- 9851054143 (Paul) or email [email protected] .

Group & private trek

We organize the group as well as private treks. The bigger your group size is, the more discount you will get. However, you are not entitled to discounts for groups Discovery World Trekking assembles.

We can handle all group sizes. Each group will have a trekking guide and porters (one porter for every two trekkers). We will also provide an assistant guide for a trekking group of 12 or more.

Responsible travel

Our philosophy is:

  • Take nothing but pictures.
  • Leave nothing but footprints.
  • Kill nothing but time.

We are an eco-tour (trek) company. We understand that increased tourist visits in trekking regions may disturb the local environment adversely. So, we try hard not to disturb the environment in the trekking regions.

Discovery World Trekking works together with Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) to organize eco-friendly trips that benefit the trekkers and the locals in the trekking regions.

The ABC Trek includes fixed departure dates from Kathmandu and Pokhara and but we can plan this trek to accommodate your specific requests and schedule.

Please review your designated departure dates, and if the departure dates do not suit you, contact us, and we will arrange the trip at your convenience.

We look forward to guiding you to the famous viewpoints Poon Hill and the ABC, through some of the most dazzling landscapes on the planet with the mighty Himalayas in the background.

What an absolutely amazing experience! Nepal truly lives up to its reputation, and our guide Hari from Discovery World Trekking was absolutely fantastic. His local knowledge, cultural connections, and exceptional leadership made the trek truly unforgettable. Not only did he provide us with great support and flexibility, but he also went above and beyond to ensure we had an incredible culinary experience during the trek.

Hari's remarkable charisma, humor, and passion for his country and village made him stand out. He was like the "Charlie Chaplin of Nepal" with his infectious charm and kindness. Hiring Hari as your guide will undoubtedly leave you positively amazed.

The company itself was excellent in every aspect. All the details were taken care of, and the owner, Paul, provided timely and knowledgeable input. He designed a perfect itinerary for us and even took the time to check in with me during the trek to see how everything was going.

If you're planning a trek in Nepal, I highly recommend choosing Discovery World Trekking and having Hari as your guide. It will be an experience beyond your wildest expectations.

I have recently completed a two-week trek with Discovery World Trekking in the Annapurna region, and I am absolutely delighted with the experience. Our guide was not only friendly and knowledgeable but also surprisingly skilled at playing cards! Milan and Gore, the team members who assisted us throughout the journey, were incredibly helpful.

They ensured our itinerary remained flexible, allowing us to adjust based on our energy levels. The accommodations and food provided were of top-notch quality. Moreover, being able to engage in conversations with them about Nepal, mountaineering, culture, and their personal experiences added an extra special touch to the trip. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Paul, the CEO of Discovery World Trekking, is exceptionally friendly and helpful. As this was my first trekking trip in Nepal, I am grateful that we chose them as our guide and porter service. Their guide, Mr. Munsing, has been truly outstanding. Throughout the journey, he ensured that we were well taken care of, with a special emphasis on our safety.

In addition to his excellent service, he is also a very amiable person who willingly shares information and knowledge whenever we inquire. Moreover, the porters provided by Discovery World Trekking were exceptional as well.

They went above and beyond their obligations to deliver the best possible service. This may have been my first trekking experience, but it certainly won't be my last. I am already planning my next trek and I will undoubtedly choose Discovery World Trekking once again. Both my team and I highly recommend their services.

I recently had the incredible opportunity to embark on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, and I cannot speak highly enough of Discovery Work Trekking. I would like to separately review our guides and porters who accompanied me on this journey. Their expertise, professionalism, and unwavering support made the entire trek an unforgettable experience.

From the moment we set foot on the trail, the guides demonstrated their extensive knowledge of the route, the terrain, and the local culture. Their ability to navigate through challenging sections, provide accurate information about the surroundings, and share fascinating insights about the region greatly enriched the trekking experience. Their guidance ensured that we were always on the right path and aware of any potential risks or obstacles.

Moreover, the guides' warm and friendly nature fostered a strong sense of camaraderie within the group. They effortlessly established a positive and inclusive atmosphere, creating a safe space for everyone. Their presence was not just limited to guiding; they genuinely cared about our well-being, checking in regularly to assess our physical and emotional states. I am overwhelmed thinking about them as I write this as I believe the trip would have been different if we did not have their support!

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

On the first day of the trek, we will pick you up free of charge from your hotel in the Lakeside area of Pokhara. After you book your trek, we will ask for your hotel details.

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is considered a moderate trek in Nepal. It includes some long days and steep climbs. You don’t need any previous trekking or mountaineering experience. You should be in good physical condition and able to walk for four to six hours per day over hilly terrain with a light backpack. If you’re not an experienced trekker or don’t exercise regularly, we recommend starting a training program well before the trip. You’ll have plenty of rest time during the trek, and we’ll go at a slow pace to help you adjust to the increasing elevation.

You’ll be staying in teahouses, which are basic but clean and welcoming resting places after a day of trekking. Accommodation is limited, especially at higher altitudes, so you may stay in a twin/double room or a bed in a dormitory. The bed mattresses are usually firm, and there are shared shower and toilet facilities. The dining halls in the teahouses offer limited meal choices.

We recommend that you bring water purification tablets and a water bottle with you. Mosaic supports responsible tourism, so we don’t encourage buying bottled water in the Himalayan region since there’s no proper disposal system for plastic bottles. You can fill your water bottle along the way since there’s plenty of water available, and most brands of purification tablets take just 30 minutes to make the water safe to drink. We recommend drinking at least 3 to 4 liters of water per day while trekking.

You can keep any luggage you won’t need during the trek securely at your hotel in Pokhara.

Walking poles are not necessary but they can be helpful when going downhill and on steep climbs. You can buy them in Pokhara and they can be easily attached to your backpack when not in use.

Yes, there are many trekking shops that sell equipment at a lower price than at developed countries. However, the quality may not always be guaranteed. It is recommended to buy major items like trekking shoes before arriving in Nepal.

Yes, you can recharge your devices in the teahouses, but make sure to bring adapters as the plugs may be different. Some teahouses may charge a fee for electricity.

Showers are available at the teahouses, but they may be shared and you will have to pay for hot water. As you go higher, it may get colder and you may not want to shower as often.

The amount of money you will need depends on your spending habits. $10 per day is a rough estimate for extra drinks.

You will need to bring a backpack that is big enough for your personal gear, water, camera, snacks, sunscreen, and hat. If you want to hire a porter, they can carry up to 20kg of weight for two people.

If you get sick, you will usually descend to a lower altitude. If you are seriously ill, an emergency helicopter evacuation service can be arranged. It is important to have travel insurance that covers high altitude trekking and emergency services. Altitude sickness is a real concern, so familiarize yourself with the symptoms and inform your guide immediately if you experience any. Guides carry basic medicine and first aid equipment.

We hope these answers are helpful. If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Classic Nepal Tour

We had a great experience in Nepal! There is so much to see in the country and the tour provided us a combination of both guided visits and times to explore on our own which was really nice.  From visiting temples and historic sites, to exploring the forests of Chitwan National Park, to sunrise viewing of the Himalayas, all was amazing. Our guide, Raj, was knowledgeable and kind, very gracious, and shared a great deal of information and knowledge.  He moved quickly through areas that he knew but also met the pace we wanted to experience the various facets of Nepal with. All in all, we enjoyed Katmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara, and would recommend anyone to visit Nepal and enjoy the beauty of the country.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek (10 destinations) Tour

Annapurna Base Camp Trek (10 destinations)

I recently returned from hiking to Annapurna Base Camp and I am so thankful to Nepal Hiking Team, especially my wonderful guide Narayan Dhamala, the president Ganga, and my porter Bhim, for making this journey special and unforgettable. A couple months ago I decided to take a solo trip to Nepal and hike in the amazing Himalayas. I started looking for a trekking company and after carefully reading the reviews and feedback of several agencies, I opted for Nepal Hiking Team. The fact that they are rated #1 and they are also a local company made me feel good about my decision, and this was further reinforced once I started communicating with Ganga about my travel plans. He was always available to answer any questions I had. The trek to ABC was the best trekking experience I've had and I'm very grateful for Narayan, who not only was an experienced and extremely knowledgeable guide with great communication skills, but he was a kind, funny, and positive person. I learned so much about the Nepalese culture, the villages we stayed in, the Annapurna Sanctuary, and that made the trek even more enjoyable. When we would arrive at the teahouse we would stay for the night, I always had a comfortable room to stay in. The company has a very good reputation with the owners of the teahouses and this is very important, especially as you get closer to the base camp and there aren't enough rooms for everyone. At base camp I met a few people who had to sleep in tents or sheds, while myself and two other private groups with NHT, had a place to sleep in the teahouse rooms. Narayan went above and beyond to ensure my well being, making sure that I am eating well and that I am staying hydrated. We kept a consistent schedule and fortunately I didn't have any altitude sickness or any other health issues. I am already thinking about my next trek in Nepal and without a doubt I will want to organize it with Nepal Hiking Team again. From the moment I arrived at the Kathmandu airport until the day I was dropped off, everything was coordinated so professionally and flawlessly by Ganga and his team. Nepal Hiking Team goes the extra mile and they truly make their clients' comfort and well being the top priority. I encourage everyone who wants to trek in Nepal to hire this excellent local trekking company.

The following day we met Achut who took us for lunch and gave us an orientation walk of surrounding Kathmandu. If you are only able to visit Nepal for a short time, I would thoroughly recommend this tour. The guides spoke good english and were very knowledgeable about everywhere we went. Kathmandu provided an excellent cultural experience whilst Pokhara and Chitwan exposed us to Nepal's beautiful scenery and wildlife. The highlights were undoubtedly the jeep safari tour, crocodile safari in a canoe and the hiking Pokhara.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek-10 Days

I did solo Annapurna base camp trek this July with Govinda from Relax Getaway. Trekking during rainy season was different experience. It was little difficult to trek due to heavy rain sometime but i enjoyed it. Thanks Govinda for great trip.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Tour

I had 10 days time in Nepal. In 10 days I did Kathmandu and Pokhara Sightseeing as well the trekking in Ghorepani. There was a great view of Mt.Machapuchare and Annapurna range. I was very pleased with the service. Everything was delivered according to the itinerary. The guide Tenzi Sherpa and porter Malpa Lama were great. Mr Rana from Adventure Himalayan Travels and Treks was very attentive to our needs. All the services were excellent. Faisal Ahmed, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Annapurna Circuit Trek Tour

It was an absolutely beautiful experience in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The scenery was always fantastic, and our guide Govinda just knew everything about the circuit. He is a well experienced guide, he planned everything very flexible, so you're always well prepared for every situation. Also, he was such a nice friend for us! Overall an absolutely perfect tour, next time definitely again with Himalaya Heart!

Upper Mustang Photography Tour 12 Days 2022/2023

Reviews of Mount Annapurna Tours

Nepal is an experience as a whole which was beautifully crafted by World Travel Experiences (WTX). We travelled to this vibrant and mystical land last month and we still have the feeling of being to the lap of mountains. Busy Kathmandu is the dream city for youngsters and remote into the mountains villages seems quite, lands barren and high mountains as a proof of every events. Whenever is the time it seems to be looking and smiling at us. Oh Himalayas we miss you and hope to be there soon again.
A great tour with local guides demonstrating insightful knowledge around the cities, temples and monuments. Everything went as planned in the itinerary, helpful staff.
