Rate or hate? The 2022 team bikes of the pro peloton ranked and rated

First Published Feb 18, 2022

The pro peloton has some stunning bikes, but which looks the best? We’re going to be judging the bikes based on looks alone, but which ones do we rate and which do we hate? Let’s run through them, from the stinkers to our surprising favourite.

> Click here for our round-up of all bikes in the 2022 men's pro peloton

Another year of bike racing is upon us and there have been some exceptionally busy mechanics readying bikes for the best riders in the world. We’ve been busy too, ranking the paint department’s efforts.

> And here for the women's WorldTour bikes for 2022

Did they do a good job with the crayons, or was it a bit of a Friday afternoon rush job?

Right, let’s get to the bikes, starting with the worst, though, we should preface this by saying that we’d happily ride any of the bikes here. And to be clear, this is a bit of a beauty pageant. The limiting factor isn’t going to be the bike when it comes to the actual races.

If you don’t agree with our choices, the comments section is waiting for your opinions.

Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux - 2/10

Intermarche Cube Lightning C68 X

Sorry Cube, but while this is probably a very fast bike, it isn’t one that gets our hearts racing. There are a lot of harsh angles around the seat tube and we’re not quite sure how neon yellow has made it all the way through to 2022.

Maybe someone in the design team really likes using their highlighter? Aside from that, the huge lettering on the downtube, forks and wheels is just a bit excessive.

Combine it with a kit that is plastered in logos and it’s not exactly winning us over.

Bike Exchange - 3/10

GreenEdge Giant Propel

Can you see what wheels Bike Exchange is using? We can’t quite make it out.

The team’s Giants aren’t actually that bad, but you’re fighting an uphill battle when you combine those wheels with that kit.

We'd also say that the blocky paint pattern is about as confused as the jersey. There are some similar paint jobs that score a lot better, it’s just that this one doesn’t really work.

Moving on, we come to a collection of designs that are fine, but they’re just a bit meh.

Lotto Soudal - 5/10

Lotto Soudal Ridley Noah Fast

First up is Lotto’s Ridleys. Black. A bit of grey. There’s not a lot going on here, which is a shame, because Lotto has had some brilliant bikes in the past.

The one interesting this here is that the team have switched from Campagnolo to Shimano. We did see Caleb Ewan and Philippe Gilbert using modified shift lever setups, so the move might make it easier for the riders to shift gears when down in the drops as Shimano offers its popular sprinter satellite shift buttons.

Trek Segafredo Men's - 6/10

Trek Segafredo Trek Madone 2022

Next up is Trek, and we’re talking about the men’s team here. What are lovely bikes are let down by the use of maximum font size on the downtube. Plus the women’s kit and bike designs are nicer, but we’ll get to them in a bike.

We will give a little tip of the hat to the classic drops on that bike.

Jumbo Visma - 6/10

Jumbo Visma Cervelo R5 2022 2

Then we come to Jumbo Visma’s Cervelos. They haven’t really changed from last year and, well, it’s a little bit of a boring design for some of the most exciting riders in the world. Come on, you’ve got Vos and Van Aert on these bikes, they should match their riding style.

Team DSM - 6/10

DSM Scott (Addict Patrick Brunt Team DSM)

DSM is another team that hasn’t really changed its bikes and again, this is pretty unoffensive but doesn’t exactly make you go wow.

Bora-Hasgrohe - 6/10

Bora Hansgrohe S-Works SL7 2

Part of the collection of ok bikes are the two Specialized SL7s in the men’s world tour this year. Bora and Quick Step rather quiet designs this year, with Bora getting a smart black to green frame while Quick-Step have this interesting navy blue finish that is lighter in spots depending on where the light hits it. Seeing as Bora has one of the nicest kits in the peloton this year, theirs is particularly dull.

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl  - 6/10

2022 Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7 Julian Alaphilippe - 1.jpg

Quick-Step’s might well be better in the flesh, but seeing as the bike will set you back a cool 13K, most of us will only ever be able to gaze at this through a screen.

We're also a bit disappointed that Specialized hasn’t done anything special for Cav. And Alaphilippe’s bike is quite quiet too. It seems like a case of opportunities missed from Specialized.

Alpecin Fenix - 7/10

Alpecin Fenix Canyon Aeroad 2022

Alpecin has basically got the same design as last year which, when you see our winner, might make you think that the design department did one early in the week and then Alpecin’s on the Friday afternoon.

We're surprised that Van der Poel doesn’t get a tastier paint job. He had a lovely bike for the Olympic MTB race, but maybe when it comes to his road machine he prefers simplicity? It is at least a very pro-looking white design.

AG2R Citroen - 7/10

BAB AG2R BMC Team Bike 4

On a similar note, AG2R’s bikes are very refined. One of the only teams to be using Campagnolo this year and those wheels are lovely.

Movistar - 7/10

Movistar 2022 Canyon Aeroad CFR

Onto Movistar now and there is a bit going on here with a blue middle with a hard line above it and a fade below.

But it does work and you’ll find the same bike being ridden by the men’s and women’s team.

Cofidis - 7/10

2022 De Rosa Merak Cofidis - 1

Cofidis has their DeRosa bikes back for 2022 and the design is kinda interesting. What makes this for us is the kit. That’s got to be up there with the best we’ve ever seen from Cofidis.

Funnily enough, all they had to do was drop the weird sun and the red shorts. Massive improvements and a worthy 7.

Astana - 7/10

2021 Tour de France Astana WIlier Zero SLR - 1

Astana now and here’s a big case of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The Wiliers of 2021 were lovely and we’re quite happy to see them back again.

Interesting to see that they’ve got the latest 12-speed Dura-Ace shifters, brakes and derailleurs, but that the chainsets are the older power meter models. With the CeramicSpeed pulley wheel system there too, it’d suggest that they’re buying the groupsets in.

That’s got to be a rather pricey upgrade across the whole team.

Bahrain-Merida - 8/10

Merida Scultura V Team RCCR

Bahrain’s design is one that we really like. The reddy orange on the headtube transitions into black through a block pattern that matches the team kit and it is well executed. I think this is the first of our 8s

Ineos Grenadiers - 8/10

Ineos Grenadiers Pinarello Dogma F 2022

Also getting an 8 is Ineos’ effort. The red into navy blue really works and even better is Carapaz’s Olympic champs bike.

Carapaz Dogma F Credit Ineos

We really just like it because it is shiny but we also really like the lines on the Dogma F. Nice looking race bike that.

Trek-Segafredo Women's - 8/10

Trek Segafredo Women's Emonda

Netting a much better score than the men’s bike is the bike of the Trek-Segafredo Women’s team. Same bike, same components, but, in our eyes, a much nicer colour scheme.

We’ve preferred the women’s kit and bikes for a few years now when it comes to Trek. But they don’t escape the maximum font size. A solid 8.

Groupama FDJ - 8/10

Groupama-FDJ Lapierre

Groupama FDJ is as French as they come and their approach to National Champions jerseys is the best.

Back to the bike and we love the classy design and the use of white tape. Triple triangle frames aren’t our favourite though. It’s good enough for an 8.

Team UAE - 8/10 / UAE Team ADQ - 9/10

UAE Colnago V3Rs (Credit A.Broadway/SWPix.com).JPG

This next bike will likely be doing a lot of winning this year. Ok, the paintwork isn’t the most interesting, but this is a Colnago draped in Campagnolo and it spins on the Bora Ultras. You just can’t get any classier than that.

Team UAE ADQ Colnago V3Rs Disc 1

Pogacar will probably win the Tour on rim brakes again too, which the purist in me loves. It’s an 8 for this one, but we’re giving a 9 for the women’s bike. Now that is a stunning bike.

Bit of a shame that an oil state can’t find the budget to get the women’s team the EPS groupset though.

Israel Premier Tech - 9/10

Israel Premier Tech Factor Ostro VAM 2022

If you’re going to do a mostly black bike, this is how you do it. Hint hint, Cube. Israel Premier Tech’s Factor Ostro VAM is not only a brilliant bike to ride, it looks amazing. That bare carbon base is lovely…

EF Easy-Post - 10/10

EF Easy-Post Cannondale Supersix 2022

Cannondale has once again crushed it with the crayons. This is fresh, interesting and we want it. We have never wanted to be pro cyclists more than we do now, though it would mean having to wear the green shorts…

Eolo Kometa - 10/10

Eolo Kometa Aurum

Another stunner is the Aurum bike of Eolo Kometa. This pearlescent white might not be great for around here, but if you spend your winter training in Southern Spain and have a mechanic to wash your bike after races, it really works.

We love the shiny SRAM red groupset and the Enve wheels finish it off. If we were being picky, we’d have black decals on the wheels.

But tan walls make up for it.

Canyon SRAM - 10/10

Canyon SRAM Canyon Aeroad CFR

Saving the best for last, we weren’t actually going to have a favourite, but this is just too good. It’s the Canyon Aeroad of Canyon//Sram.

This not only complements the kit that is lovely, but it is also, by itself, a stunning design. It is interesting, the colours are great and we can see it being a design that stands the test of time.

I like the UAE ADQ paint job!  I think it beats all the others by a mile.

And since I have a V3Rs frame on order, I like the bike, too!

Here we are, rating super bikes by their livery; where once we built them up. I recall replacinr simplex and mafac components with nouvo and super record a little bit at a time. A campy SR group complete cost but little in real terms, but little was about all we had 45 years ago.

That said, it was possible to build a bike as nice as hinault's or merckx's. The standards were standard, the maintenance was straight forward, replacement parts largely interchangeable. Pro quality bikes, with 2 or 3 sets of self built wheels, cotton sewups and free wheels for $1500. Cheers

$1500 in 1978 is equivalent to around $7000 today, which, while admittedly it won't get you a GT bike, still buys a pretty special, second-string pro level, machine. Considering the advanced tech that now goes into GT bikes (electronic gearing, carbon frames and wheels etc) I'd say the value wasn't much different. What was top banana when I started out mid-80s (Reynolds 753 or Columbus (can't remember the top number) frame with Dura Ace and Mavic wheels) was just as unattainable then for me as these superbikes are now!

A favourite of mine is the white AG2R BMCs with the red accents. Looks fierce.

It is an EPS group on the women's UAE bike isn't it?

The front mech is EPS, certainly, but I'm not sure the rear mech is. The image is probably photoshopped to hell. Lovely paint job though.

Rate or Hate.  Really?  Isn't there enough hate in the world already?

Pretty uniformly uninspiring really.

Bahrain-Merida's offering is very nice, apart from the white logo! I'm a massive fan of orange in to black, heck I resprayed my current bike in the colour way!

Factor check, Canyon Women check, Colnago Women check but please remove that ugly UAE logo. The rest ? Plastered with screaming white logos. Always ugly

Men's WorldTour bikes and tech: What are teams using in 2024?

Decathlon enters the fray with Van Rysel, Bora-Hansgrohe switch to SRAM, and could 2024 be a year without Campagnolo in the WorldTour?

WorldTour 2024 kit

Welcome to the  Cyclingnews  WorldTour bikes guide for 2024, a complete and comprehensive round-up of the bikes and tech used by the men's UCI WorldTour Teams for the upcoming cycling season. Be sure to check out the Women's WorldTour Bikes too.

The offseason seems to get shorter and shorter each year, we barely seem to have chance to draw breath here at Cyclingnews before the racing gets underway again . If you fancy a recap of 2023's tech happenings before we go again for 2024, head over to our roundup of the most interesting tech stories of the year, but we're already looking ahead, planning for January's early-season kick-off at the Tour Down Under in Australia.

As such, we've been doing our homework on all the team kit changes, sponsors and technical partners for the 2024 season as news and announcements begin to gather pace. We probably won't have the complete picture until early January after all the official team launches, but we've rounded up everything we know - or can deduce with confidence - below.

The sheer speed WorldTour road races are run off at these days is astounding. With racing action opening up from further and further out during races it seems. Advances in training science and power meter technology also mean there is an incredible strength in depth within the men's WorldTour peloton.

WorldTour bikes 2023 WorldTour bikes 2022 WorldTour bikes 2021 WorldTour bikes 2020 WorldTour bikes 2019 WorldTour bikes 2018 WorldTour bikes 2017

Any team or rider not using optimised bikes and equipment is going to be at a disadvantage given the high level and as such more and more teams are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to bikes and kit. Losing a handful of watts due to exposed cabling or slow tyres isn't an option for WorldTour racers, just see Ineos Grenadiers' aero transponder hack for proof.

We saw bikes got heavier when teams first switched to disc brakes several years ago. In 2023 however, it felt like several brands got a lot closer to the UCI 6.8kg weight limit again with lightweight, disc-equipped, aero-optimised bikes. If you believe all of the tech info and marketing news, today's race bikes are just as, if not more aero than the hyper aero race bikes of only a handful of years ago, but they are one again right on the nose of the UCI minimum weight limit.

Couple this with aero-optimised everything, waxed drivetrains, 1x chainsets for road stages not to mention some of the most aerodynamic cycling kit on the market and you get incredibly fast average speeds for most races these days.

The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!

We expect 2024 to build on these tech trends and expect teams to keep up their unrelenting quest for the best possible blend of weight, aero and speed. 2024 is also an Olympic year and we may well see some extra special kit from various manufacturers.

Christophe Laporte

Of the 18 WorldTour men's teams for 2024, there are two new frame supplier changes with Groupama-FDJ switching from Lapierre after 22 long years to Wilier Triestina , and Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team as it will be known saying goodbye to BMC and switching to Decathlon's own brand Van Rysel .

That latter move sees Decathlon's bikes back in the top flight after a long lay off, and sees BMC outside of the top flight for the first time in a decade (albeit still working with Swiss squad Tudor). The rest of the men's WorldTour bike brands remain the same but there are some equipment changes which are outlined below.

Another development worth mentioning toward the end of this season was the release of the new Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 which some of the top riders in the peloton will be riding on next year, transitioning from the SL7 model. Hit the link to read all about the bike's 'speed sniffer' technology.

World Tour riders

Like last year, there aren't too many big kit changes for next year, although there's still a little time for some changes to come.

Ineos Grenadiers are one team that have switched kit suppliers , moving from BioRacer kit to Spanish brand Gobik in what's been called a long-term partnership. The linked article above also gives some insights into just how big a commitment supplying a whole team with kit is. We also saw Ineos partnering with Castore for off-bike wear last year and believe this remains unchanged.

Astana have also said goodbye to Giordana as they partner with Biemme for the 2024 race season

There is also more change for the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team who retain clothing provider Rosti but will use Van Rysel helmets and sunglasses as part of the team's new equipment deal.

Sportful also re-enters the WorldTour with its old team Bora-Hansgrohe after the German team jumped ship to British brand LeCol ahead of the 2022 season,

WorldTour 2024 kit

A key talking point this year is the apparent absence of Campagnolo from the WorldTour peloton for 2024. We speculated this time last year on whether we would see the brand in the peloton for 2024 and at the moment, their absence looks likely after AG2R switched from BMC to Van Rysel bikes and Campagnolo to Shimano equipment.

"Campagnolo can confirm that its partnership with the AG2R Citröen Team has come to an end, and that it has amicably parted ways with the team." the brand said in a statement to Cyclingnews , confirming news we all knew following the team's Shimano-equipped bike launch last month. "There is currently no announcement to make about Campagnolo's partnerships in professional road racing for the 2024 season."

We can't account for a couple of seasons so aren't 100% sure, but this could be the first time in the brand's history (bar a couple of very early years) where its equipment hasn't been used in the top flight of racing. Even if not, it's still a notable situation to find the brand in.

We also have confirmed that Bora-Hansgrohe will switch from Shimano to SRAM groupsets. We understand Bora used to purchase their own groupsets from Shimano, rather than any direct sponsorship deal, so perhaps SRAM has a better price or has stepped in with a deal to provide equipment.

We also saw UAE Emirates start to use some alternate componentry in 2023 in the form of Carbon-Ti chainrings and disc brake rotors instead of their stock Dura-Ace equipment. The UAE Team Emirates outfit also buys its own groupsets, so has no sponsor obligations to adhere to here, and have seen images of the team running the same components on their new bikes.

  • Saddles : Fizik
  • Finishing Kit : Deda / Van Rysel
  • Computers : Wahoo

The biggest changes for next year are taking place at Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team as they will be known from January.

The team will be aboard a completely new equipment package for 2024, saying goodbye to BMC and Campagnolo Equipment. The riders will use Van Rysel road and time trial bikes, Shimano Dura-Ace equipment and SwissSide wheels. For existing riders on the team that's a lot of changes to get used to before the racing kicks off.

Astana Qazaqstan Team

Wilier Filante SLR

  • Bikes : Wilier Zero SLR, Wilier Filante SLR, Wilier Turbine TT
  • Wheels : Vision Metron
  • Tyres: Vittoria Corsa
  • Clothing : Biemme
  • Saddles : Prologo
  • Finishing Kit : Wilier
  • Computers : Garmin

Despite some speculation, Cyclingnews understands that Astana are staying with Wilier and have seen press shots from a December training camp of the team on Wilier Filante SLR bikes. Team riders will be able to choose from the Zero and Filante SLR models.

After using Corima and HED wheels for the 2023 season, the team announced they would be using Vision wheels for the 2024 season.

Bahrain Victorious

  • Bikes : Merida Reacto, Merida Scultura, Merida Warp TT
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Disc
  • Wheels :  Vision
  • Clothing : Alé
  • Finishing Kit : FSA, Vision

There's also little change at Bahrain Victorious. The team did start the 2021 campaign in Nalini clothing before they switched to Alé during the summer, but that new partner remains along with the use of Merida Bikes, Shimano groupsets, and Vision/FSA componentry.

The team rolled out a new paint job for the Tour de France which featured a lot more white and paid homage to Bahrain's pearl fishing industry.

Also worth inclusion here despite being not road-specific is Matej Mohoric's World Championship-winning Merida gravel bike from early October as the road star made a very successful transition to the rough stuff.

Bora-Hansgrohe

Primoz Roglic

  • Bikes : Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8, Specialized S-Works Shiv TT
  • Groupset : SRAM Red AXS
  • Wheels : Roval
  • Tyres: Specialized
  • Clothing : Sportful
  • Saddles : Specialized
  • Finishing Kit : PRO, Specialized
  • Computers : Hammerhead Karoo 2

There is change afoot at Bora Hansgrohe for 2024, firstly in the shape of new star signing Primož Roglič who signed for the team and leaves Jumbo Visma after a long tenure.

The other significant piece of equipment news for the team is the switch from Shimano to SRAM equipment with Roglič himself spotted with a Sram Red AXS-equipped Bora Tarmac SL8 ahead of the new season. The kit itself also features more green this year and some lighter green in particular on the right shoulder.

The team has also changed from Wahoo to Hammerhead Karoo 2 computers for the 2024 season. They have also signed a deal with KOO eyewear which is owned by Kask for 2024. For the moment, the rest of the team's equipment looks to be staying the same.

Look 795

  • Bikes : Look 795 Blade, 796 Monoblade RS (TT)
  • Wheels : Corima
  • Clothing : Van Rysel
  • Saddles : Selle Italia
  • Finishing Kit : FSA/Vision

Cofidis look to be sticking with their current setup which is a largely French affair with Look frames and Corima wheels. We were speculating on the identity of their new Look frames this year. But it became apparent this was the 795 Blade frameset module which took a spectacular win at the Tour in 2023 thanks to Victor Lafay.

EF Education-Easypost

  • Bikes : Cannondale SuperSix Evo LAB 71, SystemSix, SuperSlice (TT)
  • Wheels : Vision
  • Clothing : Rapha
  • Computers : TBC

For the most part, it appears EF Education-Easypost are sticking with what they have in 2024. Continuing aboard Cannondale bikes, Vision/FSA components, and Prologo saddles. It's a setup that feels very familiar now.

The team did start racing the fourth generation of the SuperSix Evo in March and we expect to see them racing on the top-flight LAB 71 bikes in 2024.

The team's opinion-dividing limited edition team kits have gained the team plenty of exposure throughout previous seasons. We can probably expect to see more of the same on at least one of this year's grand tours.

Groupama-FDJ

Wilier Filante SLR

  • Wheels : Shimano C35, C50, C60
  • Tyres: Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT
  • Finishing Kit : Lapierre

FDJ said goodbye to Lapierre at the end of this season after 22 long years. It's confirmed they will race on Wilier bikes for 2024 and we have already had a sneak peek of the potential new bike.

So far, aside from the new frame supplier, the team's equipment package looks to be the same as last year with a Dura Ace equipment package and wheels. Though we may know more after the official team launch.

Ineos Grenadiers

Pinarello Dogma F Ineos

  • Bikes : Pinarello Dogma F, Bolide (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 12 Speed
  • Wheels : Shimano (Princeton Carbonworks & Aerocoach will be present as non-sponsored additions)
  • Tyres: Continental
  • Clothing : Gobik
  • Finishing Kit : MOST

Bike-wise, not much appears to have altered yet for Ineos Grenadiers. They are still using the same mix of equipment providers and have developed the Pinarello Dogma F frame with Pinarello over many years. They use a mix of Shimano, Princeton Carbonworks, and Aerocoach wheels for road and TT disciplines. The team after a long relationship with Fizik announced a new partnership with Prologo and will use the brand's saddles on and off road in 2024.

Video and images have appeared online of the team at its December training camp the bike's paint schemes look almost identical to last year.

The team also switched clothing suppliers in 2024, waving goodbye to Bio Racer and launching a new 'long term' partnership with Gobik, whose design is a little different with a notable change being the left-right fade and odd-coloured arms on long-sleeve items.

Intermarché - Wanty

  • Bikes : Cube Litening C:68X, Aerium C:68 (TT)
  • Wheels : Newmen
  • Clothing : Verge
  • Finishing Kit : Cube
  • Computers : Bryton

Intermarché - Wanty dropped the 'circus' title sponsor for 2024 but stick with all of their current sponsors and equipment. Cube, Shimano and Newmen make up the package for the WorldTour team.

The team changed from Nalini to Verge cycling kit for 2024. The kit features fluorescent yellow in abundance and we're hoping to see both Taco Van der Hoorn and Biniam Girmay return to their former flourishes following their respective battles with concussion.

Alpecin-Deceuninck

WorldTour 2024 kit

  • Bikes : Canyon Aeroad CFR / Ultimate CFR / Speedmax (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano
  • Tyres: Vittoria
  • Clothing : Kalas
  • Finishing Kit : Canyon / Selle Italia
  • Computers : Wahoo

Alpecin-Deceuninck might have only graduated to the WorldTour in 2023, but the team has had a similar equipment package for a few years now.

Not much appears to be changing for 2024, with the team retaining all of their sponsors. But we can probably expect a new custom-painted Canyon Aeroad for reigning World Road Race Champion Mathieu van der Poel as well as a host of rainbow kit.

Team Visma | Lease a bike

Visma | Lease a bike

  • Bikes : Cervélo S5, R5, Caledonia, P5 (TT)
  • Groupset : SRAM Red eTap
  • Wheels : Reserve
  • Tyres: Vittoria
  • Clothing : Agu
  • Finishing Kit : Cervelo / FSA

We don't know if there are any official changes for the all-conquering soon-to-be renamed Team Visma | Lease A Bike squad for 2024. The upcoming team launch may tell us more.

The team did have a lot of new equipment to get used to last season after switching from Shimano to SRAM, to Wahoo Speedplay pedals, and Nimbl shoes. Elsewhere they use Cervelo bikes and Reserve wheels in a range of depths.

The team is widely regarded as the tip of the pyramid now when it comes to marginal gains and optimisation, notably experimenting with 1x drivetrains in road races the 2023 season. We wouldn't be surprised to see a few more tweaks here and there as Jonas Vingegaard aims for a third straight Tour de France.

Arkéa B&B Hotels

Bianchi Specialissima

  • Bikes : Bianchi Oltre RC, Specialissima, Aquila (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2
  • Tyres: Vittoria Metron - 45 and 60
  • Clothing : Ekoi
  • Finishing Kit : Reparto course by Vision / FSA

After rolling out a new Bianchi equipment package for 2023, Arkea looks to be sticking to the same frames from Bianchi for 2024.

There is some change in the form of a different team name with the team changing to Arkéa - B&B Hotels. We also expect them to have the use of the new Bianchi Specialissima lightweight bike, which we first saw at the Vuelta, and have seen the team training on already this December.

They will use Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and wheels which the Arkea riders will be familiar with, and notably switch from Shimano to Vision wheels for road races as well as from Continental to Vittoria tyres

Movistar Team

  • Bikes : Canyon Aeroad CFR, Ultimate CFR, Speedmax CFR (TT)
  • Groupset : SRAM Red eTap AXS
  • Wheels : Zipp
  • Clothing : Gobik / BORN
  • Finishing Kit : Canyon

Most things look to be staying the same at Movistar for 2024 ahead of the officical team launch and the team has had a similar package for a few years now. This means continued use of Canyon's bikes, SRAM's wireless Red eTap AXS groupsets and Zipp wheels, with saddles courtesy of Fizik and computers supplied by Garmin.

Time has come on board as a pedal sponsor for 2024. Time pedal systems are some of the lightest around. Sram own Time so the partnership makes sense. The team have also announced a new partnership for three years with Spanish brand BORN to cover all the team's leisurewear requirements off the bike.

Soudal-QuickStep

WorldTour 2024 kit

  • Clothing : Castelli

At the time of writing, everything looks to be staying the same for Soudal-QuickStep Their Specialized / Shimano package has proven successful over many seasons and seems to be a tried and tested combination.

The team will all race on Tarmac SL8 bikes next year and we have spotted a few riders on new 2024 colour scheme bikes online in the last few days.

Specialized provides more than just frames to the team, with riders using its shoes, helmets, tyres and in some cases cockpits as well. Top secret Specialized 'Project Black' prototype equipment is also out in the wild, but Specialized remains tight-lipped on all fronts.

The team has also extended its partnership with Danish company CeramicSpeed through to the end of 2024. The brand supplies the team with bottom brackets as well as bearings kits etc.

Team Jayco-AlUla

Jayco Alula

  • Bikes : Propel Advanced SL, TCR Advanced SL, Trinity (TT)
  • Wheels : Cadex
  • Saddles : Cadex
  • Finishing Kit : Giant
  • Computers : Stages

After last year's name change, the Jayco AlUla team's equipment package remains largely the same for the moment. Team colours have changed slightly with some red coming in on the lower half of the split colour way team jerseys. Giant remains the bike sponsor and provides its own Cadex wheels, Dash computers (albeit these are simply Giant-branded Stages Dash computers ) and Cadex finishing kit.

Interestingly the Propel and TCR still use an integrated seat mast which isn't something we see on many high-end road bikes anymore. IF the product cycle is anything to go by, we're expecting a new TCR in 2024, so we'll keep our eyes peeled to see if this remains.

Team DSM - Firmenich PostNL

  • Bikes : Scott Addict RC, Plasma (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano C36, C50, C60
  • Clothing : Nalini
  • Saddles : Syncros
  • Finishing Kit : Syncros

Almost everything looks set to remain the same at Team DSM for 2024 ahead of their official team launch.

We do know the team will continue to ride Scott bikes until 2025. For this year at least, and likely beyond, that will also be complete with Shimano groupsets and wheels, especially as Team DSM is one of the few teams actually sponsored by Shimano, unlike others who are forced to buy it (or have it supplied by their bike sponsor).

Elsewhere, data will be handled by Wahoo as it has been since 2021. The team's clothing system is interesting, with the kit custom manufactured by Nalini, but in collaboration with DSM with the integration of the material Dyneema.

Lidl - Trek

  • Bikes : Trek Madone, Emonda, Domane, Speed Concept (TT)
  • Wheels : Bontrager
  • Clothing : Santini
  • Saddles : Bontrager
  • Finishing Kit : Bontrager

Like last year, nothing much has changed at Lidl-Trek for 2024 thus far. The team created waves in the summer after changing names to Lidl - Trek just before the Tour de France.

Mads Pederson's custom-painted Trek Madone almost broke the internet in July too.

We know nothing that suggests the team won't continue on Trek's range of road bikes, SRAM groupsets, Bontrager components, Wahoo computers and clothing from Santini.

UAE Team Emirates

Tadej Pogacar's Colnago V4Rs stands in an underground car park

  • Bikes : Colnago V4Rs, TT1 (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Disc 12 Speed / Carbon-Ti chainrings and rotors
  • Wheels : Enve
  • Finishing Kit : Colnago

After a period of change where the team changed a lot of componentry and moved away from Campagnolo to Shimano they seem to have found an equipment setup they are happy to keep.

It looks like Pogacar and co will continue on Colnago V4Rs framesets, Dura-Ace groupsets and Enve wheels, complete with Continental tyres. Notably, the team have used Carbon Ti carbon chainrings and disc rotors and look to be doing the same next year from online training pictures.

Bike Check: Mads Pedersen’s Trek Madone SLR at the Tour of Flanders

The danish rider opted for massive chainrings, narrow handlebars, and... tubular tires.

The Danish star Mads Pedersen has been on a roll this year, outpowering Mathieu van der Poel at the Gent-Wevelgem finish aboard the Trek Madone aero race bike. Trek might have a dedicated classic bike in the Domane, but their aero race provides just enough comfort to make it Pedersen’s go-to ride on most occasions.

Mads Pedersen’s Trek Madone SLR features a SRAM Red eTap AXS drivetrain with a massive 56/43T chainring, Bontrager Aeolus RSL wheels, and Pirelli tubular tires (?!).

Customer Reviews

Battery compartment design is weak. I have anther Moscow and ot would come lose on top. Screws are so small. I also woul brace the battery with strap due to rattling. Otherwise love my moscow

We purchased the NCM Moscow 29 E bike from Leon Cycles earlier this month. Communication was via 'Whatsapp' which I initially thought a little odd but worked out well. Once communication established the transaction was completed quickly and easily. We were able to arrange for the team to assemble the bike for us and we picked it up from the warehouse without an issue. We love the bike and are continuing to find new places to discover using it. Competitive price and great service.

I ordered the bike 4 days ago and today it arrived. Now my first impressions: it is easy to assemble, looks great, is cleanly finished and after a first short driving test I have to say, the hammer. It's totally easy to drive. If it stays that way, I can only say thank you Leon Cycle. Now I can cycle again, despite knee problems. Price-performance top

Great bike, this is my second e bike and by far the best. Watching e bikes over the last 10 years I think the Moscow 29er is fantastic. I live in the Dandenongs outside Melbourne with big steep hills and the Moscow takes them all on with great pulling power and gear range. 48v with 16 amps means over 750 watts of power. The bike is big and serious so getting on and off can be tricky but you do get used to it. With the previous bike (36v at 8amps) I was scared of running out of battery on a big hill and having to push the bike home but not with the Moscow. Also if you take the front wheel off you can get it in a hatchback like my Mazda 3 Which is nice. At $2200 it is a great buy.

Purchased two Moscow 27.5. One for my wife, one for me. Fast delivery, well boxed and easy assembly. Absolutely FANTASTIC to ride and use. Great range, and enough power for steep hills and tough terrain. I highly recommend them. Exactly as advertised and brochure. Looked at many options from other suppliers but these are the best value for money. If anyone wants a little extra range and a few more features then a Moscow Plus may suit. 48 Volt is the way to go. Great support and assistance from the team at Leon to make the right purchase decision. Hope other people may enjoy the ride and quality product. Harry G

NCM Milano Electric Bike Review

NCM make high-quality, but affordable electric bikes, in this review I will explain why I believe the NCM Milano is the best electric commuter bike for the money.

About NCM Electric bikes

NCM electric bikes are owned by Leon Cycle GmbH a German company based in Hanover. Their e-bikes are designed in Germany and manufactured in China.

Specification

The centrepiece of this Electric bike is the X15 geared rear hub motor: This reliable 250W rear electric motor is known for its durability and high torque output, enabling the rider to maintain 15.5mph for long periods. There is no compromise in handling with the small motor centred in the rear hub.

NCM Milano electric bike photos of saddle, rear wheel and handlebar grips

48v13ah Lithium battery pack with USB charging port for mobile devices: Bulky battery packs take up a considerable amount of space, but the Milano’s battery is integrated into the down tube of the bike, keeping the weight low and central, which helps to improve stability. The manufacturers claimed a maximum range of 75 miles seems a little optimistic. The total battery energy capacity is 624wh (watt hours), so if you were consuming 20wh per mile, your range would be 31 miles. My friend owns one of these bikes and gets an average range of around 40-50 miles.

NCM milano electric bike view of battery

This bike is built for comfort:  The Schwalbe touring tyres, Suntour front suspension, adjustable handlebar stem, Selle Royal ergonomic grips and saddle with suspension post all make for an incredibly comfortable ride, even over longer distances. The Shimano 7-Speed gears, index perfectly – shifting is crisp and precise.

photos of the ncm milano tyres, display panel and front light

Fully functional control panel display: The Das-Kit LCD gives you all the information you would expect from an e-bike display. including journey time and mileage. It also has 6 power levels of pedal assist, so you can fine-tune the power output to suit your ride.

NCM Milano electric bike lcd display

Excellent build quality: The NCM Milano is designed to look great but with no compromise on functionality and safety. The Tektro mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors provide adequate braking and the brake levers incorporate motor cut-off switches to ensure safe riding. The front and rear lights work off the battery and provide an extra level of safety – especially when riding in the winter. Internal cable routing finishes off the package neatly and not only looks great but protects the cables from the elements.

NCM milano electric bike dimensions

In my opinion, the NCM Milano electric bike offers exceptional value for money. It is unusual to see such a high-quality, well-made e-bike at this price point. What’s more the specification is excellent. The 48v13ah battery will certainly provide users with a realistic range of between 30-45 miles, or 31 miles using the 20wh per mile calculation. The claimed range of 75 miles may be a little optimistic for everyday use – it depends on how much you use the electric assist.

Tektro Mechanical disc brakes should provide adequate stopping power, while the Schwalbe tyres will provide a reasonable amount of puncture protection.

The attention to detail on this bike is great. The internally routed cables and the integrated battery pack make for a very clean finish, something you only usually find on more expensive e-bikes.

The fact that this bike has mudguards, a pannier rack, lights and a kickstand fitted, means that it is excellent for the daily commute in all weathers, or perfect for some weekend touring. The inclusion of a gel saddle and suspension seat post make this bike a truly comfortable and versatile all-rounder.

If you are in the market for an incredibly versatile and affordable e-bike this definitely ticks all the right boxes

A friend of mine purchased one of these back in the Summer and he was kind enough to let me take it for a spin. I can honestly say it was a revelation! The gel saddle was incredibly comfortable and the small X15 hub motor was quiet and smooth. It produced a lot of power for such a small motor, making climbing the steep Cornish hills a doddle! The brakes and front suspension were more than adequate for the back lanes of Cornwall.

I really cannot recommend this bike enough. It has to be one of the best value e-bikes on the market at the moment, and the specification is great.

The great thing about this e-bike is that it is a true hybrid – it is equally comfortable being ridden on tarmac or unpaved surfaces. It can even be used for some light off-road riding.

If you are in the market for an incredibly versatile and affordable e-bike this ticks all the right boxes.

Incidentally, NCM’s other 48v 250w bike is called the NCM Moscow , I will be reviewing this bike shortly. I have personally worked on and ridden a Moscow, and it is on par with the Milano for the ride and builds quality. It uses identical electric components but in a mountain bike-style frame.

boa taarde tenho uma biçicleta destas mas necessito de assistencia em Portugal. ela não arranca e não encontro uma ofecina que repare esta marca e com a garantia

Hi! Thank you for the review! I bought Milano a week ago, so far so good. I found the first assist speed to be stronger that I’d like it to be. Is there any way to rebalance those 1-6 modes within the given range, so it starts not as strong?

Don’t know if this is still open, but I really like the Milano plus, my only question, is how easy is it to remove the battery beneath that tube? Can it be done one handed? Cornwall my home!

Turning the key releases the battery catch, then you need to lift it slightly, move it forward and remove. I would imagine it’s possible to do it one handed, but it would be fairly tricky as the battery weighs around 3kg.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards, Tony

bike seems well make and sturdy but i find the tyres are so skinny that when you are on slightly uneven surfaces even at a slow pace & i’m talking in number 1 setting it is dangerous and you could so easy fall off on a slightly uneven footpath. It’s ok on even ground but i wouldn’t let my wife ride it. I’ll try putting new tyres on it & see how it goes or it will be sold. In comparison i have another basic ebike in the states which is so stable this is nowhere close to and ride all types of tracks on it which is also a similar style. i would say I’m disappointed in it so far & feel its an accident waiting to happen.

Excellent review Tony,

I went ahead and bought the Milano and I’ve been very impressed with it so far. I was wondering if you’d know whether the 48v 16ah battery for NCM bikes would be compatible with the Milano model? I can’t seem to find a 48v 13ah battery anywhere.

Many thanks, Andy

An NCM Milano Plus battery should fit straight in. The 16Ah battery is the same size and uses lithium cells with a higher energy density.

Salutations, Tony

I am seeing two different Milano Max models…N8C and N8R. They look exactly the same and with the same specifications. What is the difference?

I checked online for milano and price was 1189 Canadian dollar. On Monday I decided to buy it but unfortunately price went up to 1359$. I’m surprised as during holiday season everywhere else reducing their prices but your price was raised.

Netting a much better score than the men's bike is the bike of the Trek-Segafredo Women's team. Same bike, same components, but, in our eyes, a much nicer colour scheme. We've preferred the women's kit and bikes for a few years now when it comes to Trek. But they don't escape the maximum font size. A solid 8. Groupama FDJ - 8/10

  25. NCM Milano Electric Bike Review

In my opinion, the NCM Milano electric bike offers exceptional value for money. It is unusual to see such a high-quality, well-made e-bike at this price point. What's more the specification is excellent. The 48v13ah battery will certainly provide users with a realistic range of between 30-45 miles, or 31 miles using the 20wh per mile calculation.
