Looking for Canadian poker tournaments - whether online or live? Thanks to a relaxed attitude to Canadian poker sites and online poker in general, you can play online just as easily as they can live. From big tournaments to small-stakes online satellites, and anything else in between. This guide will not only show you what events to look out for but also where to play.
Upcoming Canadian Poker Tournaments Calendar
Check out the table below for the upcoming poker tournaments in Canada. Regardless of whether you want to play poker online or, you can find details about the latest tourneys here.
What are the Best Canada Poker Tournaments?
Some of the best tournaments in Canada, such as the Sunday Million, take place online. Indeed, thanks to favorable local laws, Canadian poker players across the country can enjoy the biggest MTTs on PokerStars , GGPoker , partypoker , and other top sites. However, that’s not all. The live scene is also brimming with options. To give you an idea of what to look out for on the Canada poker tournaments schedule for 2021 and beyond, here are some of the hot picks.
Partypoker Millions North America
If you’re searching for big events, look no further than Millions North America. Organized by Partypoker and typically taking place at Playground Poker Club, this event is for pros and those that want to hit the big time. There are plenty of side events costing CA$500+, as well as super high rollers with five and six-figure buy-ins.
However, the main focus is the CA$10,300 Millions North America main event. Guarantees for this often top CA$5 million, which means the winner can take home CA$1 million+. As well as live satellites taking place inside Playground, party gives players the chance to qualify online for less than $1.
World Cup of Cards
It may sound like a soccer game, but the World Cup of Cards is a fantastic low and mid-stakes series that takes place inside Playground. Buy-ins start at CA$110 and scale up to CA$1,100. Although various types of Hold’em and Omaha dominate the schedule, you can also play niche games like Crazy Pineapple.
Canada Pure Poker Tour
Hosted by Canada’s network of Pure Casinos, this tour is aimed at low and mid-stakes players. Events don’t happen every month. However, you should be able to find events costing between CA$100 and CA$1,000 throughout the year at Pure casinos in Edmonton, Calgary, Yellowhead, and Lethbridge.
World Poker Tour (WPT) Canada
Canada has been a regular destination for the WPT since the early noughties. From WPT Fallsview to WPT Montreal at Playground, this prestigious organization always stops here. As well as direct buy-ins costing CA$3,000+, you can qualify via local and online satellites. It’s often the case that a host casino will run qualifiers costing CA$100+. If these events are too expensive, you can use the WPT’s online partner, partypoker, to qualify for less than $1.
PokerStars Sunday Million
The Sunday Million has been running since 2006 and it remains one of the best online. AIt takes place every Sunday and, unsurprisingly, it has a $1 million guarantee. The buy-in used to be $215 but is now $109. You can also win a seat in the Sunday Million for less than $0.10. If this event doesn’t suit, there are plenty of alternatives, including SCOOP, WCOOP, the Sunday Storm, and MicroMillions.
Partypoker: WPT Online and Online Millions
Alongside its offline events, there are plenty of weekly and seasonal online MTTs. The highlights of the annual schedule are WPT Online and Online Millions. The former gives you a chance to win some of the most sought-after titles. The latter is one of the largest online MTTs in the world with guarantees topping $20 million.
GGPoker: Super Millions, WSOP Online
GGPoker quickly became a top force in the MTT world. You can access this site from Canada and play all its top online events, including the weekly $10,300 Super Millions. If tussling with the elite doesn’t suit you, look out for WSOP Online events instead. GGPoker is the WSOP’s international partner. So you can play for bracelets and $1 million+ prizes if you live in Canada.
How to Qualify for Poker Tournaments in Canada
Thanks to the legal landscape, there are live and online satellites galore. One way to qualify from Canada is local casinos. For example, if Fallsview is hosting a WPT event, it will generate interest by running live satellites. The cost of these qualifiers will depend. However, in general, the buy-ins will be equal to 10% of the main event’s buy-in.
If you don’t live near a CA poker room or you want a cheaper way to play, PokerStars et al have you covered. Every major site offers satellites to major events both inside and outside of the country. From the WPT and WSOP to partypoker Live Millions, you qualify for pro-level events online for less than $10.
Cost to Enter Canadian Poker Tournaments
In general, the entry fee and prizes for local events will be in CAD / C$. For example, if you walk into Playground and enter an event, you’ll have to hand over some C$. However, if you play online, the buy-in will usually be collected in USD. There are some exceptions to this rule but, in general, the US dollar is the standard currency.
For example, Millions North America is a live event taking place in Canada and the CA$10,300 buy-in was in CAD. In contrast, the Sunday Million is an online event with a US$1 million guarantee. In practice, that means the prize pool is worth $1.2 million+.
Canadian Poker Tournament Hotspots
It doesn’t matter where you live in Canada, there will always be some available online. However, if you want to venture out and play in a live Canadian poker room , here’s where you can do so:
Live vs Online Poker Tournaments in CA
- Playing at home? Find out where to get poker supplies in Canada .
- Learn live vs online poker strategy here
We know that Canada poker tournaments in 2021 are split between live and online venues. Indeed, local gaming laws are such that you can play online at international sites and, therefore, access some of the best events in the world. However, we also know that some people like to play live. With that being said, here are some factors to consider.
✓ Speed and Accessibility
Many players prefer online MTTs because they’re easily accessible and can be over in a few hours. That’s ideal if you’re a recreational player with a life outside poker. However, if you’ve got more time to spare, the live arena is better if you enjoy reading players and being sociable. Moreover, for live events that run for multiple days, the potential returns on your investments can be huge.
✓ Buy-ins and Prizes
Canadian sites are best for low-stakes costing $200 or less. Not only can you play for as little as $0.10, but you can also fight for prizes worth $100,000+. For high stakes action and bigger guarantees, the live circuit wins thanks to big tournaments such as the WPT and Millions North America. These pro-level events cost upwards of $1,000 to enter and have top prizes worth over $1 million.
✓ Satellites and Frequency
There’s no doubt that online MTTs run more frequently. Additionally, you’re more likely to find affordable satellites to major tournaments. That’s not to say you can’t find regular action on the local live circuit. However, sites such as PokerStars have hundreds of MTTs running every day and that’s something no live venue can match.
Online Poker Tournament Spots for Canadians
Canada online poker sites.
GGPoker is ranked as one of the biggest poker sites in the world and that’s thanks, in part, to its MTTs. You’ll find over $500,000 worth of added value every day of the week thanks to daily guarantees, SNGs, and majors.
This Canadian site is great if you want fishy action. 888Poker benefits from having a sportsbook as its sister site, so you can find plenty of loose players in popular MTTs such as the PKO Series.
PokerStars has been the home of online MTTs for more than two decades. From one-cent mega-events to the Sunday Million and the biggest festivals online, this is arguably the best place for online tourneys in Canada.
Partypoker has undergone a revival in recent years. Today, you can play Online Millions events, WPT Online events, and a host of weekly showdowns, including Daily Legends.
Betsafe Poker
Betsafe is part of the iPoker Network, which means you’ll get access to Twister SNGs with random jackpots topping $100,000. Add to this a revamped MTT schedule with over $100,000 in guarantees every day, and Betsafe is a rising star in the Canadian scene.
Guts might not be the biggest name in CA, but it has a schedule that’s packed with value. There is more than $100,000 in guaranteed value every day. And, as a member of the iPoker Network, Guts also gives you access to major events such as the $1 million+ Bounty Hunter Series.
TigerGaming Poker
TigerGaming poker is big on bonuses. For example, you could win $1 million by playing special SNGs. Add to this the fact TigerGaming is open to US players , and there are some fishy spots such as the Daily $55K and the $150,000 guaranteed Sunday Main Event.

The result for Roy was only his seventh recorded live cash at the time, and the Canadian’s victory came just two months after a ninth-place finish at WPT Malta.
Roy was among good company with just three players remaining and found a way to defeat both Jeff Gross and Pascal Lefrancois . Gross, of course, is currently part of partypoker Team Pro, with Lefrancois going on to win the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona Main Event for €1,700,000 in April 2018.
Season XII – Rosenbarger Bags the Title
The televised final table saw Derrick Rosenbarger from Clovis, New Mexico take the $500,824 first-place prize as well the championship belt. The Air Force jet pilot navigated his way through 862 players, despite starting the final day with the second-lowest stack with 33 big blinds, compared to three players who began with over 100. Rosenbarger bested eventual Season XII WPT Player of the Year Mukul Pahuja heads-up to win after holding with pocket queens against ace-four of diamonds.
Season XIII – Jubilation For Jaffe
The WPT returned to the Playground Poker Club in November 2014 and saw American Jonathan Jaffe defeat Ratharam Sivagnanam heads-up to win the Main Event for $409,657. Season XII runner-up Mukul Pahuja , who has over $5.2m in recorded live earnings, took the bronze medal, as Kevin MacPhee banked $131,777 in fourth place.
Season XIV – Mahoney Makes It
A year later, WPT and partypoker joined forces, and the Main Event saw Jared Mahoney top a 697 player-field to seal the title alongside $341,332. That year it was Darryll Fish who was the unlucky player to depart during heads-up but received a $229,258 consolation prize for his efforts. In third place was one of the few European players who made the money-places, with the in-form German Rainer Kempe awarded $147,599.
Fish recently made up for his defeat by taking down the Season XVI WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open and finally become part of the WPT Champions Club, while also taking second place in 2018 partypoker MILLIONS North America Main Event for $937,221.
Season XV – Glory For Poker Legend Sexton
2016 was the year for a man that needs no introduction in the world of poker – Mike Sexton .
The current partypoker chairman has over $6.6m in live earnings and entered the WPT Champions Club, having appeared at several WPT Main Tour final tables. Poker Hall of Famer Sexton banked $317,817 for his heads-up victory over Benny Chen , and once again wrote his name into the poker history books.
Season XVI – Heroic Heroux
The Season XVI Main Event final table saw two-time WPT Champions Club member Eric Afriat reach his sixth Main Tour final table, ultimately taking fifth place after David Peters had exited in sixth. Maxime Heroux was the hero after he topped the 606 entrants and collected the $317,554 first-place prize.
Season XVII – Serda Shines Through
On a final table that featured the likes of Sorel Mizzi , WPTDeepStacks winner Upeshka De Silva , and two-time WPT Champions Club member Jonathan Little , Patrick Serda surged to Main Event victory, watched on by his fiance Lisa and newborn son, Henrik, and picked up the $652,801 first-place prize.
Ema Zajmovic was looking to secure her second WPT title on her fourth final table appearance but fell at the last thanks to a battling display from the new father, Serda.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) in the Poker Universe
In the thrilling realm of poker, few events capture the essence of competition, skill, and excitement quite like the World Poker Tour (WPT). Established in 2002, the WPT has grown to become a global phenomenon, attracting poker enthusiasts, professionals, and spectators from around the world. This article delves into the history, impact, and significance of the World Poker Tour in the ever-evolving landscape of poker.
Online Qualifiers – Win a $12,400 Package to the WPT World Championship!
Origins of the World Poker Tour:
The World Poker Tour was conceived by television producers Steven Lipscomb and Lyle Berman with the vision of bringing the intensity and drama of high-stakes poker to a broader audience. The inaugural season kicked off in 2002, featuring a series of Texas Hold’em tournaments held at renowned casinos and destinations.
2022 WPT World Championship winner:
Eliot Hudon, a Canadian poker player, secured the title of the 2022 WPT World Championship winner by triumphing over a massive field of 2,930 entries in the $10,400 buy-in event. His impressive victory at Wynn Las Vegas on Tuesday, December 20, earned him a remarkable first-place prize of $4,136,000. Notably, this triumph marked Hudon’s inaugural World Poker Tour cash, and prior to this, his highest live tournament cash had been $113,800, as reported by HendonMob.com.
Tournament Format:
One of the distinctive features of the WPT is its focus on televised final tables. The tour travels to various glamorous locations, turning poker tournaments into high-profile, televised events. The tournament format typically involves a series of satellite events leading up to the main event, where players compete for a chance to advance to the televised final table. This format not only adds an element of glamour but also allows viewers to witness the strategic brilliance and nerve-wracking decisions that define poker at the highest level.
Global Reach and Impact:
Over the years, the WPT has expanded its reach, hosting events on multiple continents and attracting a diverse array of players. The tour has played a crucial role in popularizing poker globally, contributing to the growth of the poker industry and creating household names out of its champions.
The WPT Champions Club:
Winning a WPT title is a prestigious accomplishment for any poker player. The WPT Champions Club is an exclusive group of individuals who have secured victory in a WPT main event. This elite club includes legendary players such as Doyle Brunson, Gus Hansen, and Daniel Negreanu, among others. The club’s roster is a testament to the tour’s ability to attract and showcase the best talent in the poker world.
Evolution and Adaptation:
In response to the dynamic nature of the poker industry, the WPT has evolved over the years to stay relevant and exciting. The tour introduced the WPT Alpha8 series, catering to high-stakes players, and embraced online platforms to reach a broader audience. These adaptations have ensured that the WPT remains a driving force in the ever-expanding poker community.
Conclusion:
The World Poker Tour stands as a beacon in the poker universe, providing a stage for the world’s best players to showcase their skills and create lasting legacies. From its humble beginnings in 2002 to its current status as a global phenomenon, the WPT has played a pivotal role in shaping the modern poker landscape. As the tour continues to evolve and adapt, its influence on the poker community is sure to endure, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of competitive poker worldwide.

2024 RBC Heritage prop bet picks and PGA Tour predictions
T he top players in the world won't have much of a break following the Masters because up next on the schedule is the 2024 RBC Heritage , a signature event with a loaded field. The 1st round from Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C., begins on Thursday.
Below, we search for the best value prop bets among the 2024 RBC Heritage odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions .
Scottie Scheffler , fresh off his Masters victory, remains the No. 1 player in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Xander Schauffele , who's also in the field, comes in at No. 2, followed by Rory McIlroy , Ludvig Aberg and Patrick Cantlay – all of whom are playing the RBC Heritage. Last year's champion Matt Fitzpatrick is Golfweek's 20th-ranked player.
Harbour Town is one of the shorter courses on tour and emphasizes accuracy off the tee and ball-striking with irons. The greens are also some of the smallest on the PGA Tour, so it's essential for players to be accurate when approaching the greens. It's a par 71 and 7,213 yards, slightly longer than it was last year.

RBC Heritage – Top-5 picks
Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Patrick Cantlay (+300)
Cantlay is Mr. Top 5 at the RBC Heritage. Since 2017, he's played this event 6 times. He finished inside the top 5 on 4 occasions, missed the cut once and came in 7th another time. If there's ever a tournament to bet Cantlay to finish in the top 5, it's this one.
Collin Morikawa (+350)
Morikawa has yet to finish in the top 5 at this event, but he came close in 2021 when he came in 7th. Since then, he's had finishes of 26th and 31st, proving to be a good fit at Harbour Town with his accuracy off the tee and iron play.
RBC Heritage – Top-10 picks
Tommy fleetwood (+160).
Fleetwood has notched back-to-back top-10 finishes in his last 2 starts, including a tie for 3rd at the Masters. He's finished 15th, 10th and 25th in 3 of his 4 career starts at this event (MC in 2021), so he's played well at Harbour Town in the past. He could legitimately win this tournament on Sunday.
Shane Lowry (+300)
Lowry is poised to bounce back after a dreadful putting performance at the Masters. Harbour Town is a ball-strikers course and Lowry ranks among the best on tour this season. He's finished in the top 10 here in 3 of his last 5 starts.
Cam Davis (+375)
Davis still has long odds despite his course history (7th, 3rd, 25th) and 12th-place finish at the Masters. His length won't be a big advantage this week because it's not a bombers course, but he's played well here in the past and should do so again.
Other T10 contenders ( in order from longest odds to shortest ):
- Russell Henley (+250)
- Ludvig Aberg (+125)
RBC Heritage – Top-20 picks
J.t. poston (+150).
Poston has been feast or famine at the RBC Heritage. He finished 3rd in 2022, 8th in 2020 and 6th in 2019, but he missed the cut in his 2 other starts in 2023 and 2021. He's one of the best putters on tour (even if his numbers don't reflect that this year) and has the course history to finish near the top again this week.
Corey Conners (+120)
In the last 4 years, Conners has finished 31st, 12th, 4th and 21st. He seemingly loves this course and has had success here in the past, and we're probably getting a little bit of a discount after a disappointing week at the Masters.
Matthieu Pavon (+170)
Pavon has proved he can compete with the best players in the world, winning at Torrey Pines earlier this year. In his last 2 starts this season, he's finished 5th and 12th, so his current form is good despite his lack of course experience (no previous starts here).
RBC Heritage – Matchups
Suggested play is golfer in bold .
Cameron Young (-120) vs. Jordan Spieth (-105)
Spieth looked out of sorts at the Masters and he's now missed the cut in 3 of his last 4 starts. He won here in 2022 and lost in a playoff last year, but he's not playing nearly as well right now. Give me Young, who finished 3rd here in 2022.
RBC Heritage – Top Canadian
Corey conners (+200).
Conners is the favorite to be the top Canadian, ahead of Adam Hadwin (+300), Mackenzie Hughes and Nick Taylor (both +400). Conners is the best course fit and has the better track record at Harbour Town.
RBC Heritage – Top Australian
Cam davis (+110).
Davis and Jason Day (-135) are the only two Australians in the field, yet it's Davis who's the underdog. Day hasn't played here since 2020 and he missed the cut that year, while Davis' course history is noted above.
RBC Heritage – First-round leader
Patrick cantlay (+2200).
Cantlay ranks 2nd only to Scheffler in Round 1 scoring average this season (67.5) and he's now coming to a course where he's finished 7th or better in 5 of his last 6 starts.
Xander Schauffele (+1600)
Schauffele is on fire right now, with his worst finish in his last 5 starts being 25th. Otherwise, he's had 4 top-5 finishes. He's 9th in 1st-round scoring average this year and opened with a 67 here last season.
More expert prop bet predictions
Group c winner: cameron young (+320).
In this group are Russell Henley (+333), Si Woo Kim (+333), Spieth (+375) and Sahith Theegala (+400). Young is the slight favorite and understandably so with the way he's playing right now coming out of the Masters.
