Graphite design Tour AD W-70 (Legacy shaft) any spec's??

I recently purchased online a Taylor made Aeroburner Yardbirds head shafted with an old Graphite design Tour AD W70 shaft.

Pictures on website showed head was legitimate (5 scoring lines rather than 6) and a limited view of a black Graphite design shaft which I wrongly assumed to be a black ADDI.

I am not questioning the transaction and will hold on to the head anyway as it is essentially brand new except for a few sandy ball marks just below the sweet-spot that someone has had an attempt at touching up.

Just wondering if anyone has the EI information on this shaft and whether the tip/butt stiffness is closer to the ADDI or the ADBB or neither?

I have searched and only came up with an outdated link (WRX) and a link to ebay japan (Google) with limited English translation

Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft Review

Lucky for us, Graphite Design has released a second shaft in 2023 – the Tour AD VF “Victory Force.” This sleek black and red shat fits the low spin, low-to-mid launch profile and one of the stiffest tip sections out of all their offerings.  As you come to expect, the AD VF offers the best of modern materials in Japanese golf design and manufacturing.

Looks 5

It’s been a few iterations since we’ve seen the boldest and most vibrant Graphite Design graphics show up! In previous years, we had the iconic and vibrant Tour AD DI, older classics like the highlighter yellow AD MT, or the shimmering turquoise AD UB . Like this year’s other earlier release in the AD CQ , this shaft comes in with a glossy black base color. The new Tour AD VF is accented by a deep red…

My opinion is that it’s traditional and classy, and very understated. A bit “stealthy” if you get what I’m saying. Depending on your level of nerdiness, you can even think of it as a Sith Lightsaber too!

Graphite Tour AD VF 3

How Does it Feel?

The Graphite Design Tour AD VF has, in my opinion, one of the more unique feels of any shaft that the company offers. This company has attained a reputation for smoothness which you’ll often hear people comment on regardless of which shaft you choose from the family. You never hear “boardy” or “unstable” or “loose” when talking about Graphite Design.

For the AD VF, the company has created a profile that moves from firm to very stiff (their terms) as you move from the handle to the tip. They’re using TORAYCA M40X and T1100G carbon fiber materials to create those sensations in this shaft. And yeah, you can feel that. For me, the AD VF has the expected smooth feel, but a much more satisfying kick at the end. I think back a few years to the AD XC which also started softer at the handle and gradually stiffened to the tip. Having it just a bit tighter in the hands really makes this one fun.

Graphite Tour AD VF 1

On-Course Performance

I got a chance to spend two weeks testing my current favorite, the Graphite Design AD CQ, alongside the AD VF at my home away from home, Marquette Golf Club’s Greywalls course. It’s a demanding driving course and while length is not imperative, hitting the right shot shapes is a must. I tried to hit bombs, tried to flight it, and quite possibly mixed in a few absolute stinkers in there too.

While Graphite Design slots this in as a low to mid flight shaft, I felt my stock swing here kept it closer to mid than low. Good shots started low, but it seemed to keep rising to nearly the same peaks and windows as the AD CQ (which is a much higher launching profile on paper). Visually, I did not think this spun as much as the AD CQ either, but it didn’t cruise through the wind like the lowest of the low spin shafts I’ve hit. I’m not a huge swing speed player, so the truly fast players may experience it slightly different.

The adjustment period I had with this one was getting rid of the big slice. That very stiff tip sometimes makes it hard to close the club face, but that’s more of my issue! I’d even say that it helps keep that left side out of play for me. I felt like I could give the AD VF everything I had. It held up well to both aggressive swings, but I could also finesse it as needed. I found I could flight it low pretty easily, which is nice… and also something I cannot do with the AD CQ!

Can Bill test this shaft out since you mentioned it maybe a bit too stiff tip for you? Itll be nice to have a perspective from the higher speed player that is accustomed to this profile

' src=

I don’t think my perspective would really change anything. The point Jon makes is valid in that the tip section is stiffer and would translate into a different player’s swing. That experience, in my opinion, makes it an applicable “real world” review.

Plus, there’s not enough time in the day for us to double up the reviews 🙂

' src=

I’ll send it over to Ol Bill’s Clubratory for an adapter change and give him a few whacks if he likes! He does bring a bit more heat than me (probably because as old washed up hockey players he was a forward and I was a mere goalie) but we’ve both gotten good use out of shafts with wildly different profiles along the way.

However, the cool thing about Graphite Design is that they’re one of the most fine-tuneable golf shafts out there. This one was a 5x, but I’ve played 6x and 7x in Graphite Design shafts before and gotten great results. The tip stiffness is for sure a main feature of the AD VF. It tested well for me, but on game day, I’ve typically been going with the AD CQ or the AD VR… again two wildly different profiles. Pays off to test em all!

Graphite Designs Tour AD DI Shaft Review

More in reviews:.

Vortex Anarch Laser Rangefinder

50 Words or Less

The Graphite Designs Tour AD DI shaft feels great and put up some spectacular numbers.  Easy to see why it’s such a hit on the PGA Tour.

Introduction

The goal of any manufacturer is to build hype around their product organically.  Smothering the consumer with ads is fine, but it’s nothing compared to the consumer seeing all of their friends talking about and using a product.  That latter scenario is what seemed to happen overnight with the Graphite Designs Tour AD DI shaft.

From Charles Howell III to Tiger Woods to Adam Scott, it felt like every PGA Tour pro was playing the orange “Deep Impact,” and every forum was chattering about it.  The momentum continues to the 2016-2017 season as Hideki Matsuyama uses one in his driver to stack up wins.  We put this tour-proven shaft through the paces to see how it performs for those of us without PGA Tour swings.

Love the AD DI but want something new?  Check out the Graphite Design Tour AD UB HERE

Graphite Designs has a formula for the graphics of their Tour AD shafts, and the DI doesn’t vary from it.  It’s primarily one solid color with some rings in the mid-butt area and very simple graphics .  While some of the colors are bold, the graphics are no nonsense.

Unlike most of their line up, the AD DI does come in two flavors: black and the signature orange .  Go stealth or stand out, the choice is yours.

Somehow I missed out on the AD DI craze a couple years ago, but after one swing I immediately understood what all the fuss was about.  This shaft has a tremendous kick to it, but it never feels out of control.  The company’s description is “Medium” in the butt and mid and “Stiff” in the tip, which matches my assessment exactly.  You get a smooth, powerful kick through impact, but the tip doesn’t feel loose or torque-y, even on mishits.

As an aside, kudos to Graphite Designs for taking all the voodoo out of shaft descriptions.  For each of their shafts, they describe the butt, mid, and tip sections on a scale that ranges from “Very Stiff” to “Soft.”  This makes it easy to figure out what you might like and what you want to try next.

Performance

When I love the feel of a shaft, chances are its going to perform well for me.  That was certainly the case with the Graphite Designs AD DI.

I started my testing with the stiff flex version of the AD DI.  The smooth kick made me feel like I was delivering effortless power to the ball, and the results were very solid.  When I bumped up to the X flex, things got even better.  The kick was slightly less pronounced, as you’d expect, but the consistency of the results was through the roof.  Every shot was near the center of the face, and the monitor was showing the same push-draw time after time .

For players who haven’t hit Graphite Designs shafts and can’t make use of their feel chart, I would say that the AD DI is a mix of the Diamana Blue and White shafts.  It has the smooth feel and pronounced kick of the blue with the strong tip of the white.  For me, that adds up to great consistency with tremendous feel .

graphite-designs-ad-di_0033

Prior to this review, my experience with  Graphite Designs  shafts had been minimal, but now the AD DI is making a serious push to go in the bag.  It blends some of the best attributes of my favorite shafts, and the performance simply can’t be argued with.  Waiting to get this into play is just one more reason that this winter is going to feel really long.

First of all, I thank you for your website. Passionate about golf and about gear of golf , you are for me , the website number one on the subject .

I particularly appreciated your review of the ADDI shaft. GRAPHITE DESIGN being one of my favorite trademarks. I hope that others tests of the range are going to follow. Thank you again ! Excuse-me for my broken English. Patrick

' src=

Hey Matt, always enjoy reading your reviews. This GD Tour AD DI is a shaft I keep hearing about and seeing in clubs over the years. It was no surprise to hear you were impressed by it, but it was really interesting to see that you were concentrating on the proper flex for yourself(S vs. XS). With that said, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Stiff shaft. I know you will ultimately fall back on getting fit….understood. But given what you experienced for yourself, which appeared to be that you need the XS shaft for your swing speed to maximize accuracy, what would you venture the S flex would be good for in terms of swing speed? Assuming a smooth swing and 102-103 mph….S flex? Once again, I know a fitting is absolutely a must, but what swing speed range do you think might benefit best from the S flex AD DI shaft?

' src=

The thing that impressed me about the AD DI is that I could have been very happy playing the S, I just preferred the shot shape with the X. The S is also so smooth, I think it could work all the way down to, perhaps 95 MPH. Around 100 MPH is probably the sweet spot.

' src=

Matt, surprised it has taken so long to try out this iconic shaft. I am 100 SS and the GD DI 60 Stiff is the shaft I keep coming back to. Best feel yet never seems overpowered. Also agreed with the comment that it sits between the Diamana Blue and White. More stable than the Blue and more feel than the White.

And if you want that next level of stiffness / low ball flight try the BB. I noticed Kaymer just moved from DI to BB in driver, but kept DI in other woods. It also comes in Black which I think was a special order/ request from Adam Scott a few years back.

First of all I thank you for your site !

For me you are the number one ! I particularly appreciated your review of the ADDI ; GD being one of my favorites trademarks I hope that others tests of the range are going to follow

thank you again Patrick ( paris)

We will have a review of the AD TP coming soon and hopefully more to follow after that. Any models in particular that you’re interested in?

Thank you Matt !

a review of the AD TP would be perfect ! AD MT too !

' src=

Thanks, Matt. As it is often said the shaft is the “engine” of the club and the key to proper fitting. For us mere mortals, may I presume that this shaft also comes in a “Regular” form for slower swing speeds? Thanks again. Steve

Yes, it’s available in R2 (senior) through X.

' src=

I have the AD DI-7s shaft in my TaylorMade 2017 M2 3 wood. It’s the best club I’ve ever owned. My swing speed is around 105mph, yet I feel as if however hard I swing with this shaft, it just copes and continues to deliver. The feel is exquisite. Now all I have to do is see if I can find a driver to put this shaft into!

' src=

Hi Matt, I have just purchased a Ping G400 Max Driver…Reg stock stand.shaft. I am 70 yo on 18 h/c. Would I benefit from fitting an Ad Di Shaft ? In a regular form. My swing speed is around 90 to100. Can I buy in Australia?

I’m not sure who distributes Graphite Design in Australia.

There’s no inherent reason why the AD DI would be better than the stock PING shaft. The only way it would be better is if it’s a better fit for your swing, which you could find out by working with a high quality club fitter.

' src=

Love the podcast!

Are these averages from the S or X flex?

This was a while back but I believe the X was the better fit.

' src=

What was your ball flight with the S?

I’m not going to be able to reliably tell you any more than is in the review, this was written quite a while back.

' src=

Great review. How would you compare this shaft to the Tensei series? Also, in the past have you ever put together a shaft comparison chart?

There are a lot of different profiles in the Tensei series, but overall both the Tensei and Graphite Designs shafts are consistent and high quality. I have not put together a shaft comparison chart because we encourage everyone to be fit.

' src=

Hi Matt, I have the choice of the Di 60g stiff or VENTUS Black 6 60g in New St200 G, VENTUS is newer to market, what do you think.?

I would suggest getting fit and finding the best option for your swing. If you want to know what fits my swing, you can see my WITB here: https://pluggedingolf.com/about/matt-saternus/matts-whats-in-the-bag/

' src=

Hey Matt, Hopefully you still remember the feel of this shaft since it was reviewed a number of years ago…. In the review you stated that the feel was somewhere between Diamana BF and DF. Now I am curious to know whether the feel of the AD DI is similar to the Diamana ZF in your experience since the ZF is considered to be in between DF and BF regarding feel. I know you did the review on the ZF already but maybe I am just looking for a confirmation. Hope you can answer my question, thanks!

Overall, yes, they’re somewhat similar.

' src=

would you recommend AD_D1 7x for a senior who’s swing speed is down?

A 70 gram X flex is not something I would recommend for someone whose speed is going down, unless it’s going down from a truly elite level.

' src=

Are you able to share what head(s) you had conducted this shaft review with? As always appreciate you and plugged in.

Thanks, Mike

I always test with my gamer, the PING G425 Max.

' src=

I demoed the DI-6s with a fitter a while back and he thought it was my best fit from what we had available. However my club head SS is only mid, maybe high 90s, which according to GD suggests a stiff- regular. The fitter doesn’t have a SR with a Ping tip to demo. I’m playing a Ping tour 65 stiff ok right now but the DI was better.

If anything, the DI-6 stiff plays smoother/less demanding than the Ping tour stiff, true? Apparently the DI-6s might play ok down to mid 90s as you mentioned? Otoh worst case, a stiff-regular wouldn’t be flimsy, true?

Thanks for any thoughts…$370 shaft, good grief:-)

Yes, I think the AD-DI will feel softer/smoother than the PING Tour in the same flex. Personally, I would be hesitant to buy anything I hadn’t tested, especially for $370. If you thought the stiff felt good and it worked well, I would stick with that rather than taking a chance on the SR.

' src=

Does anyone have experience with the 105x hybrid/driving iron shaft? Thoughts? Is it “too stiff”?

' src=

Good morning! I wanted to see if you could share a thought or two comparing the Tour AD DI vs the Ventus TR Red. Thanks

I have a full review of the Ventus TR Red here: https://pluggedingolf.com/fujikura-ventus-tr-red-shaft-review/

Shaft Test: Graphite Design’s new Tour AD-TP versus the famous Tour AD-DI

tour ad w 70

With a similar profile to the company’s famous Tour AD-DI shaft, and a few new technologies for a slightly different ball flight, Graphite Design’s new Tour AD-TP shaft will surely entice a legion of high-spin golfers.

The new shafts are made for a mid launch and low spin rates, according to Graphite Design’s website, while the Tour AD-DI shafts are made for mid/high to high launch angles and low to low/mid spin rates. Certainly, they are in the same wheelhouse, but for anyone looking to create a slightly more penetrating ball flight with lower launch and lower spin, the new shaft could be their winning ticket.

Tour_AD_TP_Hero

To accomplish its performance, the AD-TP shafts are made with a faster taper rate from the lower-mid section to the tip of the shaft, and use an all-new graphite material from Toray Industries called T1100G carbon fiber pre-preg. They also use Toray’s Nanoalloy technology in the tip section, which was first introduced in Graphite Design’s Tour AD-DI. It help golfers gain more control of the club face by resisting torque.  Read more about the Tour AD-TP shaft’s tech here .

Here’s the bend profile of the Tour AD-TP shafts, according to Graphite Design’s website:

GraphiteDesignTourADshafts

And here’s how the Tour AD-TP shafts stack up versus the other Tour AD shafts:

Screen Shot 2016-10-26 at 12.13.37 PM

As you can see, the Tour AD-TP (top row) compared to the Tour AD-DI (bottom row) will have a firmer mid and butt section, but will also have the familiar stiff tip section.

Personally, I’ve tested just about every new mainstream driver shaft that’s come out in the past three years, and I just haven’t been able to find something that matches my swing like the Tour AD-DI. As a golfer who fights a nasty hook and too much spin, it’s the stiffness and stability of the tip of the shaft that makes me comfortable enough to “go at it.” I’m also a Mets fan, so I like the orange color.

Tour_AD-DI_ORange

But for whatever reason, my golfing brain finds other shafts to load and unload way differently, either forcing me to flip or block drives, leading to tragic results. So although I often test the latest and greatest golf shafts for you, the GolfWRX readers, I’ve all but given up on other shafts making it into my gamer driver. Yes, other shafts have given me “more optimal” numbers in a Trackman environment, but there’s nothing optimal about feeling like you’re going to duck hook the ball off the planet with OB stakes left.

When Graphite Design announced a new shaft with a similar profile that’s made to create a slightly more penetrating trajectory, however, I’ll admit I was excited to try it. Let’s see how the numbers played out.

The Numbers

AD_TP_DI_7X

I tested my Tour AD-DI gamer shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) against a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, untipped) and a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) in a TaylorMade M1 460 head (10.5 degrees) set to neutral. Yes, I have a bit more swing speed in the tank than displayed below, but it’s also late October and I don’t want to have a blown out back all winter. I conducted my testing at the Launch Pad at Carl’s Golfland on TrackMan 4 using premium golf balls.

GDDriverShafts20162_arrows

Magenta = Tour AD-TP (tipped 1 inch)

Observations

— Shots with the un-tipped shaft trended to the right. It felt like the face was opening on the downswing and I couldn’t turn my shots over. The data solidifies for me that performance matches my feel, and that I do indeed need a tipped shaft.

— The AD-DI shaft had the highest spin (2953 rpm), highest landing angle, most height (122.1 feet) and launched the highest (13.7 degrees).

— The AD-TP (tipped 1 inch) carried 4.9 yards shorter than the Tour AD-DI, but went 3.7 yards longer in total. This shows how much more penetrating the ball flight with a AD-TP shaft can be.

— Spin rate dropped from 2953 rpm with the Tour AD-DI (tipped 1 inch) to 2460 rpm with the AD-TP (tipped 1 inch).

— With nearly identical clubhead speed, ball speed and smash factors, it’s clear the Tour AD-TP was offering better numbers and tighter dispersion for me.

The Takeaway

Accuracy_and_Distance

The Graphite Design Tour AD-TP shaft is currently selling for $500 at retail. Based on the improvement I saw in my numbers, I would say that the new shaft is worth the value for my swing. The profile and new materials are a match for me in regards to ball flight characteristics and feel. I would describe the feel as “smooth-stiff, with a stable tip.”

Of course, it’s important to undergo a proper fitting, as you saw that the un-tipped version of the Tour AD-GP shaft was giving me fits. But, if you’re like me and struggle with high spin rates and inconsistency, the Tour AD-TP shaft may help you find more accuracy… and a bit more distance, too.

Andrew, the author of this review, comments about hitting duck hooks because that is his miss when he uses a shaft that doesn’t “fit” his swing style. It is the same issue I fight. The fact he has peppered the right side of the grid would be comforting for him. All in all, Andrew fits the new TP shaft pretty well.

tour ad w 70

Oct 30, 2016 at 11:57 pm

Some shafts get progressively weaker to the tip (Rogue, AD-DI), many increase stiffness into the tip (most other GD tour AD models, Kuro Kage) To assume all shafts need to be tipped just seems uninformed. Tipping off stiffness in a shaft like a AD-BB is just going to lower the kick point and give you a softer tip; exact opposite of tipping a AD-DI.

tour ad w 70

Oct 30, 2016 at 11:05 pm

Wow the author tried really hard to say this is better. The chart looks pretty much the same for all three shafts as far as landing zone. Just one leftward (I’m guess more of a hook) shot skewed the oval left. Unless he’s a left hander, none of his shots were hooks, rather either push or slices. Strange for him to say that he’s fighting a hook when he didn’t hit any.

The real difference does seem to be one offering more roll and one more carry due to launch angle changes I’m guessing due to the stiffer mid and butt sections. Worth it? The argument seems a bit thin.

Mizuno ST-Max 230 driver: High-MOI addition to the ST 230 lineup

tour ad w 70

The new Mizuno ST-Max 230 is joining Mizuno’s ST 230 series of drivers . According to the company, it is a “low-profile, wide-footprint driver.” Given that billing, GolfWRXers will know the company is offering its answer to the “give me MOI, but distance, too” request OEMs have been paying particular attention to as of late with a formula of larger profile (high MOI), lightweight crown (low CG/ease of launch), and a tuned, tech-infused face (distance).

Shallower and longer from heel to toe, the 460cc head is stretched further than any previous Mizuno driver. Here, a picture is worth 1,000 words.

tour ad w 70

Mizuno makes use of the 40-percent larger, single-piece sole by expanding its face-flexing Cortech chamber in the ST-Max 230. In addition to being longer, the chamber is positioned closer to the face for greater ball speed over a wider area.

Weight savings also allowed engineers to incorporate a 54-gram back weight into the design for greater stability, which is 20 grams more than the ST-X is outfitted with.

tour ad w 70

Another important puzzle piece, Mizuno’s beta-rich Ti-LFS face features 9 percent greater tensile strength than what the company previously relied on in the ST-Z and ST-X drivers. It’s a better canvas for a multi-thickness face, which Mizuno engineers happily incorporated, allowing them to deliver better ball speed across the face.

Finally, thanks to the ST-Max 230’s forgiveness, engineers have extended the stock shaft length to 45.75 inches to aid golfers in swinging the club faster.

With rumors of an AK return swirling , we figured it was entirely appropriate to fire up the WITB Time Machine.

At the 2010 Houston Open, Kim won his third title on the PGA Tour, seeing off Vaughn Taylor in a playoff to become, at the time, only the fifth player in 30 years to have won three times on the PGA Tour before the age of 25.

The win remains Kim’s final victory on Tour.

tour ad w 70

And, Webb Simpson won THE PLAYERS 2018 Championship with the new higher launching Tour IZ 5X!

The Tour AD DI model is the first Graphite Design shaft design that was integrated with Toray Company’s original NANOALLOY material technology in the tip section of the shaft. This material technology has now come to be known as “DI Technology”. This unique material technology promotes additionally shaft stability without the loss of feel and allows the player to create greater club head speed and thus greater ball speed while still providing exceptional feel and control.

Graphite Design Tour AD YSQ Shaft Review

by | | Golf Reviews , Golf Shaft Reviews , Golf Shaft Reviews - 2010 , Graphite Design Reviews , Recent Golf Reviews | 1 comment

Overview/Technology-

Graphite Design has been a leader in the golf shaft industry for years, some of the best players in the world consistently play their shafts.  The Tour AD YSQ is without one of Graphite Design flagship shafts and for good reason.  The YSQ is a solid shaft from tip to butt.

50% off Graphite Design Tour AD DI Hybrid 85 Graphite Iron S Shaft

The Tour AD YSQ was introduced in 2008′ and is a modernized version of the YS+ series.  The new YSQ has added 6-10 yards by increasing ball speed 3% to 5% – thus Graphite Design coins this the NEW Tour AD YSQ.  This improvement was made possible Axial Composite Interlace (ACI), an exclusive technology that stabilizes the club by eliminating deformation – end result is Pure Distance and Perfect Accuracy, the ACI driven mantra coined by Graphite Design.

Below, are the latest specs released by Graphite Design.

Tour AD YSQ Shaft Specifications

Below, is a visual of how ACI technology works ( click to enlarge ):

ACI Technology

Graphite Design makes a comparison to the 2008′ YS+ when referencing the new YSQ.  The 2008′ YS+ is slightly stiffer in the tip but the new YSQ has about 5% more Torque than the YS+ providing more distance and feel.

65% off Tour Edge Men’s Exotics XCG5 Graphite Design Tour AD

Overall, the Tour AD YSQ is a mid-kick, mid spin, mid trajectory shaft that suits average to above average players.  The YSQ comes in four flavors, separated by weight: YSQ 45, YSQ 55, YSQ 65, and YSQ 75.  The YSQ 75 has a lower torque and is designed for the stronger player.

Below, is a visual characteristics of the YSQ:

Actual Player Feedback-

“YSQ has a higher profile than the YS6, and was the natural upgrade for me”

“I put this shaft in my Adam’s XTD Pro and I love it. It’s at least 10 yards longer and I have a lot more control”

[review pros=”Stable, mid spin rate, mid trajectory.  Graphite Design continues to build on the positives of one of the best and longest selling shafts +well priced and possesses the characterstics that fits a good sector of golfers.” cons=”Perhaps a bit on the heavy side for some.” score=98.8]

Overview/Rating-

Solid shaft that will provide a significant upgrade for most players.  Fits a large percentage of swing profiles looking for a mid kick, mid trajectory, and mid spin shaft.  The Graphite Design YSQ is definitely a shaft to try.

First Look: Graphite Design Tour AD TP Shaft

First Look: Graphite Design Tour AD TP Shaft

First Look: Graphite Design Tour AD TP Shaft

On tour, with fitters, and with shaft fanatics, Graphite Design’s Tour AD shaft lineup remains immensely popular. That’s, in-part, due to the company’s propensity for expanding the lineup each and every year as new materials and new technologies become available. A reputation for performance doesn’t hurt either.

Case in point, the newly announced Tour AD TP.

For those of you familiar with the graphite design lineup (and EI profiles), the AD TP has a bend profile that slots between the AD GP and AD DI .

gd-ad-tp-2

What that means is that it has a stiff tip section, firm mid section, and a firm butt section.

If all of that is Greek to you, understand that all of that translates to mid-high launch with low spin. Keep in mind we’re talking in relative terms to other shafts in Graphite Design lineup.

tour-ad-comparison-chart-tp

For those who have played the AD DI (and we know that’s a number of you), the description likely sounds familiar. It’s certainly fair to characterize the AD TP as a modernized version of the AD DI. Like the AD DI, the TP leverages 50 ton graphite material. The ripple here is the addition of TORAYCA 1100T Carbon fiber to reinforce the tip without adding additional weight.

gd-ad-tp-3

Perhaps the bigger tech story is what Graphite Design calls FTT. That stands for Fast Taper Technology. Basically the new design tapers more aggressively. Effectively, the mid to tip section thins less gradually, with a noticeable reduction in diameter occurring farther from the tip.

Comparing the AD TP to other shafts, the taper differences are readily apparent.

According to Graphite Design, FTT offers better control and greater head speed. In independent testing conducted at Golf Laboratories, the Tour AD TP produced 3.5 yards more carry and 3.8 yards more total distance compared with similar AD models.

Specs, Pricing, and Availability

The Graphite Design TOUR AD TP is available through custom fitters and Graphite Design’s Dealer Network , beginning 10/19. MSRP is $500.

We’ve got a little something in the works right now, and while I’m not ready to spill the beans just yet, I can tell you we’ll be taking a closer look at the Tour AD TP very soon.

you can easily find these for half that MSRP amount, try eBay direct from Japan for $250 or a pinch more. There likely are many shafts on the market which will fit people just fine, but for those who want to tweak the most these are likely worth it. Graphite Design stopped manufacturing in the US a couple of years ago, likely makes them a little more expensive. I too am thrilled with the SR flex as that’s what fits me and otherwise one has to take an R and tip it some, not a big deal but nice courtesy to not have to that and one would expect it for the cost here. I often wonder why lighter weighted shafts in the 40 and 50 gram realm don’t offer lower torque ratings. Maybe it’s physics but I have found the higher torque rating rarely work for me yet I would hope to swing something in the 40/50g faster than a 60 or 70. Tony if you can shed some light on that I would appreciate it.

Nice info on a new shaft. I wish more manufacturers had that “in between” flex of the SR (Stiff Regular) in their lineup. Not sure, but I think Graphite Design is the only one using it currently. I’ve never tried one of these shafts, but I’d like to do so if the price per shaft wasn’t $500. When it comes to graphite shafts, I usually find that a Stiff shaft is either too stiff or barely too stiff, depending on the maker. And the Regular flex graphite shafts are almost always too whippy and cause hooks. Metal shafts seem to usually be pretty good in that R flex with my old Dynamic Golds. Aldila seems to make shafts that are closer to what a steel shaft cpm flex is like, but there is a great variety of feel depending on the model of that Aldila branded shaft.

Donn Rutkoff

How do you think these compare with much less expensive UST Recoil or Aero Steelfiber?

Oops. Not irons shafts. Didn’t see lengths were driver.

Great article. I like the charts comparing the other tour AD shafts. This is a very cool new shaft. Many readers are interested in high end offerings so thanks!!

Ian only interested in your golf shaft info. It’s not nessasary to talk about woods I frankly Golf spy I could give a damm about woods and his B S. Golf is better without him! Mr. morale compass can find some other sport to disgrace!

$500 MSRP? For one shaft? Boy, I thought the driver guys were off the deep end with $499 drivers….

High launch / low spin is kind of the Holy Grail of shafts………. Could be exciting, particularly if this is a harbinger of things to come at lower price points.

You do realize “mid-high launch with low spin” is mostly a myth…spin has a lot more to do with the delivery of the clubhead by the golfer than the shaft itself. A high-spin delivery isn’t going to suddenly become low-spin just because of the shaft.

Which is why I explicitly mentioned that launch characteristics are relative to the other shafts in the Graphite Design lineup.

James Dailey

Lol… $500 msrp. That’s less than a yard per $100 for you knuckleheads.

Ouch!!!!!!! I can play , eat and pay a utility bill for that, I can play without it ….

Like the shafts and article. Glad to see you have Senior , not just tour stiff xstiff. Now get to the facts , PRICE!!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will make dueling trips to the U.S-Mexico border on Thursday, as both candidates try to turn the nation’s broken immigration system to their political advantage in an expected campaign rematch this year.

Biden will travel to Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley, an area that often sees large numbers of border crossings, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday. He will meet border agents and discuss the need for bipartisan legislation. It would be his second visit to the border as president. He traveled to El Paso in January last year.

“He wants to make sure he puts his message out there to the American people,” Jean-Pierre said.

Trump, for his part, will head to Eagle Pass, Texas, about 325 miles or 520 kilometers away from Brownsville, another hotspot in the state-federal clash over border security, according to three people who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the plans.

FILE - A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer informs a migrant couple of the location of a legal border station, shortly before they illegally crossed from Champlain, N.Y., to Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, using Roxham Road. Canada’s government is reimposing some visa requirements on Mexican nationals visiting Canada, an official familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024. Quebec’s premier has been urging the federal government to slow the influx of refugees which he says has been straining resources. (AP Photo/Charles Krupa, File)

Biden, speaking in New York on Monday, said he had planned to head to the border on Thursday and didn’t know “my good friend apparently is going,” too. The White House announcement of the trip came after Trump’s plan to visit the border had been reported. The president declined to say whether he would meet with migrants on the trip.

The trips underscore immigration’s central importance in the 2024 presidential race, for Republicans and increasingly for Democrats, particularly after congressional talks on a deal to rein in illegal migration collapsed.

Biden has excoriated Republicans for abandoning the bipartisan border deal after Trump came out in opposition to the plan to tighten asylum restrictions and create daily limits on border crossings. Trump, meanwhile, has dialed up his anti-immigrant rhetoric, suggesting migrants are poisoning the blood of Americans.

The number of people who are illegally crossing the U.S. border has been rising for years because of complicated reasons that include climate change, war and unrest in other nations, the economy, and cartels that see migration as a cash cow.

The administration has been pairing crackdowns at the border with increasing legal pathways for migrants designed to steer people into arriving by plane with sponsors, not illegally on foot to the border. Under a recent Biden administration rule, many migrants are presumed ineligible for asylum if they arrive illegally between ports. It depends on the circumstances of their arrival, including whether they are single adults or families.

The numbers of migrants flowing to the U.S-Mexico border have far outpaced the capacity of an immigration system that has not been substantially updated in decades. Arrests for illegal crossings fell by half in January, but there were record highs in December.

Trump’s campaign says Biden’s plan to visit the border is a sign that the president is on the defensive over immigration and the issue is a problem for his reelection effort. Trump’s campaign press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said Biden was chasing Trump and is responsible for the “worst immigration crisis in history.”

Biden’s camp says it’s House Republicans who are on the defensive, after Trump flatly said he told GOP legislators to tank the bill that would have funded border agents and other Homeland Security authorities. The New York Times first reported the travel.

While he continues to criticize Republicans for legislative inaction, Biden is considering executive actions to help discourage migrants from coming to the U.S. Among the actions under consideration by Biden is invoking authorities outlined in Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which give a president broad leeway to block entry of certain immigrants into the United States if it would be “detrimental” to the national interest.

But without changes to law, any executive action taken by the administration that cracks down on border crossings is likely to be challenged in court. The White House has informed some lawmakers on Capitol Hill that Biden will not announce an executive order on immigration during his border trip on Thursday, according to a person familiar with the conversations.

“There is no executive action that would have done what the Senate bipartisan proposal would have done,” Jean-Pierre said. “Politics got in the way.”

According to an AP-NORC poll in January , concerns about immigration climbed to 35% from 27% last year. Most Republicans, 55%, say the government needs to focus on immigration in 2024, while 22% of Democrats listed immigration as a priority. That’s up from 45% and 14%, respectively, compared with December 2022.

Trump is again making immigration the centerpiece of his campaign, seizing on images of migrants sleeping in police stations and in hangars as proof that Biden’s policies have failed. He’s made frequent trips to the border as a candidate and president.

During his 2016 campaign, he traveled to Laredo, Texas in July 2015 for a visit that highlighted how his views on immigration helped him win media attention and support from the GOP base. Since leaving office he’s been to the border at least twice, including to pick up the endorsement of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

Biden, meanwhile, visited the border only once, and he did not come into contact with any migrants. Rather, he inspected Customs and Border Protection facilities and walked a stretch of border wall. During negotiations on the border bill, he suggested he’d shut down asylum if given the power, a remarkable shift to the right for Democrats who are increasingly concerned by the same scenes of migrants encampments , and are asking the administration to speed up work authorizations so families who have arrived can at least seek employment.

The failure of the border bill this month has caused the Homeland Security Department, which controls the border, to assess its priorities and shift money between its agencies to plug holes. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is considering slashing detention beds to 22,000 from 38,000 and reducing deportation flights. That would mean more migrants released into the U.S. who arrive at the border.

Miller reported from New York.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992. With my Military Tour experience what it likes to be in the Russian military, shooting guns, ride the Tank T-34 and various models of German tanks from the Second World War, as well as armored personnel carriers and vehicles. You will also shoot from the AK-47 and another combat weapon.

The tour will begin with your private tour guide Moscow in a Soviet army van accompanied with some tasty snacks and tea for a tasty start. Upon arriving, you will have to put on the army safety clothing and climb the Russian armored vehicles. The tour will take you on the noisy, smoky tank, driving through mud roads. All participants will get the chance to drive the tank which is coordinated by the Russian military.

Posted December 6, 2017.

  9. Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft Review

The AD VF retains Graphite Design's signature smoothness with a touch of a late kick and crunch.
