How to master Safari tabs in MacOS Monterey
There are a lot of useful ways you can use and manage tabs in the Safari web browser on MacOS. With a few settings hidden in preference panes and right-click menus, you can make your web browser much more effective and efficient in day-to-day use.
Step 1: Change tab appearance
Step 2: create a new tab group, step 3: manage your tab groups.
- Step 4: Get a bird’s eye view
Step 5: Move and reorder tabs
Step 6: reopen closed tabs and windows.
Things get interesting when you start using Safari’s Tab Groups , which were introduced with MacOS Monterey . These let you organize your tabs into related groups and then switch between them. For instance, you might have one group containing a few tabs for work, then a second group for news sites that you read during your lunch break. Switch from your news group to your work group, and all the news tabs are hidden. It’s like moving between two different Safari windows, but with less hassle. And even better, all your Tab Groups sync between your other Apple devices that are using the same Apple ID.
Of course, there is far more to Safari tabs than just Tab Groups and plenty more useful tips and tricks to learn along the way. We will cover these as well in this guide, helping you get much more from the humble web browser tab.

By default, Safari keeps the URL bar above the row of tabs you have open. However, you can merge the two so that clicking the active tab lets you enter a new web address directly into the tab.
To do so, click Safari > Preferences in your Mac menu bar. In the Preferences pane, click Tabs , then click Compact next to Tab Layout .
Don’t forget to check the other settings while you’re there. You can change how tabs behave, including whether new pages open in tabs or windows and whether the focus switches to a new tab as soon as you open it.
In most browsers, all your tabs are grouped together into one long stream. In situations like that, it can be easy to lose track of the different things you were working on in different tabs. Safari does things a little differently with its Tab Groups feature, which lets you create named groups of tabs and switch between them with ease.
To create a Tab Group, click the sidebar button in the top-left corner, then click the New Tab G roup button on the right of the sidebar. Next, choose whether you want the Tab Group to comprise your currently open tabs or to create a new, blank group. Give it a name, and you’re done.
Alternatively, you can create a Tab Group by right-clicking on any tab and clicking Move to Tab Group > New Tab Group . Or open the sidebar, right-click the X Tabs button (where X is the number of tabs you have open), then click New Tab Group with X Tabs .
When you switch between Tab Groups, the tabs in your previous group will be replaced by those in the new group. Don’t worry, they still exist, they’re just hidden. To move between Tab Groups, click the downward arrow next to the name of the group in the top-left corner, then click the name of a different Tab Group. Or simply click a different Tab Group in the sidebar.
You can add a tab to an existing Tab Group at any time by right-clicking it and clicking Move to Tab Group , then clicking the name of the destination group. Alternatively, open the sidebar, then drag and drop a tab from the main window into your desired Tab Group.
To remove a tab from a Tab Group (but still keep it open), right-click it and click Move to Tab Group > X Tabs , where X is the number of tabs this group contains. This will put the tab in an unnamed group of tabs located at the top of the sidebar.
You can rename a Tab Group by double-clicking its name in the sidebar or by right-clicking it and selecting Rename . Note that this only works with groups you have created, not the X Tabs Group at the top of the sidebar. To remove a group entirely, right-click it and click Delete . This will close all tabs contained in the group.
Step 4: Get a bird’s eye view
If you use a lot of tabs at once, it can be hard to find the one you want because tabs shrink in size the more you have open. However, there’s a quick way to get a bird’s eye view of your tabs. Just press Shift + Command , click View > Show Tab Overview or click the Tab Overview button in the top-right corner of the Safari window (it looks like four squares arranged into a larger square). This will show all your tabs as large tiles. Just click one to make it the active tab.
Additionally, you can add a new tab to a Tab Group using the overview feature. Open the overview, then click the large Plus tile, and a new tab will open. And if you need to find a specific tab, open the overview and start typing. You will notice the cursor is active in a Search Tabs box in the top-right, and results will appear as you type.
Reordering your tabs is as easy as clicking and dragging one to a new place in the tab bar. There is another, more ordered way to do it, though. Right-click any tab, then click Arrange Tabs By and choose either Title or Website . This will arrange the tabs alphabetically either by tab name (the website title that’s shown in the tab) or by the website address.
Accidentally closed a tab? Not to worry — you can instantly reopen it by pressing Command + Z . Keep pressing it to keep reopening other tabs.
If there’s a specific tab you want to reopen, click History in the menu bar to see recently visited websites. Or click History > Recently Closed for a long list of recently closed tabs. You can even reopen tabs from days prior by clicking History , then choosing a date from the bottom of the menu and picking a tab.
To reopen a closed window, just press Shift + Command + T , or click History > Reopen Last Closed Window .
Want a quick way to switch between tabs? Just press Command + Shift + Right Arrow or Command + Shift + Left Arrow to move along the row of tabs. Alternatively, use Command + 1 to Command + 9 to switch to the tab that corresponds to each number. Both are great Mac keyboard shortcuts that will save you time.
And if you have several Tab Groups open when you close Safari, the likelihood is you will want them open again when you next launch your web browser. To ensure they load when Safari opens, click Safari > Preferences in the menu bar, then click the General tab. Under Safari Opens With , click All Windows From Last Session .

People like to think that Apple’s Macs are more or less invulnerable to the assorted viruses and trojans that afflict Windows PCs, but that’s far from the truth. That’s just been aptly demonstrated by the emergence of a new malware strain that attempts to steal all of your passwords, credit card data, and more.
The discovery was made by security firm SentinelOne, which named the malware MetaStealer. According to SentinelOne, MetaStealer has the potential to trick you into giving away vital information that could cause a huge amount of damage, and it has a nefarious way of getting what it wants.

How to Use Safari Tabs on Mac
In this article, I will talk about how Safari tabs work and how to optimize your settings so that you can maximize your browsing experience. As most people know, Safari tabs allow you to have multiple web pages at the same time in the same Safari window, this way, your desktop will not be cluttered with multiple Safari windows. Tabs also makes it very easy to switch between websites and you can open as many tabs as you like. Here are a few of the settings you can adjust to your liking:
- You can duplicate or pin a tab.
- You can open a recently closed tab.
- You can open links in new tabs instead of windows.
- You can open a link into an active tab; A tab will not open in the background, but instead it will open in front of your current tab. In other words, when you open a link, its tab will be the one you are viewing.
How to make clicked links open in a new tab
I prefer to do this when I want to open a link. I don’t like it when a new window opens when I click a link. If you are like me, then this setting is for you too.
These settings will be used to decide whether links from web pages, and other applications such as Mail or Messages, open in new tabs.
- With Safari open, click Safari from the top menu bar and select Preferences.
- Click on Tabs.
- Find the “Open pages in tabs instead of windows” menu and select one of the options: Never, Automatically, or Always.
- Find the Navigation option. If you select the first box saying “⌘-click opens a link in a new tab,” all clicked links will open in new tabs.
You can use these shortcuts when opening links:
- Command (or Cmd) ⌘ – Click : Use this shortcut to open a link in a new tab.
- Command (or Cmd) ⌘ – Shift – Click : This also opens a link in a new tab, but it makes that tab the active one. As I explained above, this link will open in front of the one you currently have open.
- Command (or Cmd) ⌘ – Option – Click : Use this shortcut when you want to open a link in a new window.
Duplicate a tab
You may want to duplicate an open tab. This is one of my favorite functions that I use often. There are a few ways to do this:
- You can use this shortcut: First press Command ⌘ – L to highlight the URL in the search field at the top of Safari (or you can go to search field and highlight it), then press Command ⌘ – Return to duplicate your current tab. The duplicated tab will open next to your current one.
- Alternatively, you can Control – Click (or right-click using a mouse or trackpad) a tab and select Duplicate Tab from the menu.
- You can also go to the top menu bar and select Window > Duplicate Tab.
Bring back a closed tab
You may want to bring back a tab that you have closed accidentally. There are a couple of ways to do this:
- You can use this shortcut: Command (or Cmd) ⌘ – Shift – T or Command (or Cmd) ⌘ – Z .
- Alternatively, you can go to the top menu bar and select Edit > Undo Closed Tab.
You can pin tabs to access them easily later. You may want to pin your favorite websites, or pin websites that you visit frequently. There are a few ways to do this:
- Drag the tab you want to pin to the leftmost side of the tab bar and hover it there until it becomes small.
- You can also do this by going to the top menu bar and selecting Window > Pin Tab.
- You can Control – Click on a tab, and choose Pin Tab. Note, you can unpin by following the same steps and selecting Unpin Tab.
Manage tabs
Here are a few tips on how you can manage your tabs:
Switch between tabs
This enables you to quickly move between open tabs:
- Shift – Command ⌘ and press the right or left arrow key to move through the tabs.
- You can also use Control – Tab or Control – Shift – Tab to move right or left, respectively.
- You can also use Command ⌘ – 1 through Command ⌘ – 9 to select one of your first nine tabs. But first, ensure that the “Use ⌘-1 through ⌘-9 to switch tabs” option is selected in Preferences (Safari > Preferences > Tabs).
Change the order of tabs
You can rearrange your open tabs:
- Click to select the tab you want to move, and drag it to a new position.
Move a tab to a new window
You can turn a tab into a new Safari window
- Go to Window > Move Tab to New Window.
- Or Control – Click a tab and select “Move Tab to New Window.”

macOS: How to Manage Multiple Open Safari Tabs
Browser tabs in Safari are a great way to visit multiple webpages in the same browsing session without having to close any of them, which makes them particularly useful for cross-referencing and researching things online.
1. Bookmark All Open Tabs
If the browser tabs you have open are related and you plan to regularly revisit them, it's worth bookmarking them together in their own bookmark folder. To do so, simply select Bookmarks -> Add Bookmarks for These X Tabs... (X being the number of open tabs).
You'll then be invited to create a name for the bookmark folder and select where you want it to be kept amongst your other bookmarks, which you can access at any time by selecting Bookmarks -> Show Bookmarks in the menu bar.
Note that you can perform a similar action to add all open tabs to your Reading List for later perusal, even when you're offline. ( Bookmarks -> Add These X Tabs to Reading List .)
2. Use Tab Groups
In macOS Monterey, Tab Groups are a neat way to save and manage related tabs without having to have those tabs active and taking up space. If you're planning a trip, for example, you can save all of your tabs into a "Vacation" group, accessing them when needed and leaving your device free for other content when you're not doing active planning.
To create a new Tab Group, click the Show Sidebar icon next to the traffic lights, then select New Tab Group . Alternately, click the down arrow next to the Show Sidebar icon and select either New Empty Tab Group or New Tab Group With X Tabs , "X" being the number of tabs currently open.
Any Tab Groups you create are listed in the sidebar for easy switching. You can also select groups by clicking the down arrow next to the Show Sidebar icon. Any tabs that are opened when a Tab Group is selected will automatically be included in that group. For more tips on working with Tab Groups, check out our dedicated how-to .
3. Change Safari's Tab Layout
Safari offers two tab layouts: Compact and Separate. Compact is a more unified Safari design that does away with the dedicated URL and search interface and makes any individual tab able to be used for navigation input.
The problem with the Compact layout is that it severely limits space for multiple open tabs. In this regard, the Separate layout is more preferable, as it positions the URL/search bar at the top of the Safari window, with your tabs arranged below it.
If you're not already using the Separate tab layout, you can switch to it easily enough by selecting Safari -> Preferences... in the menu bar. Click the Tabs menu in the preference pane and select Tab Layout: Separate to remove the compact tab bar that merges everything together.
4. Rearrange Open Tabs
Sometimes you may have several open tabs from a handful of websites that you tend to visit but which are mixed up with other tabs from different places across the web.
In such cases, it can be useful to rearrange your tabs so that tabs from the same website are lined up next to each other, allowing you to easily review what you've read and dispense with any redundant tabs that were hiding between them.
To sort your tabs according to website, or title if you prefer, simply right-click any tab and select Arrange Tabs By -> Website or Title from the dropdown menu.
5. Pin Tabs
Safari's pinned tabs feature lets you better organize your tabs, especially if find you have too many open at the same time. It's particularly useful if you have certain websites that you tend to visit frequently throughout the day.
The neat thing about pinned tabs is that they stay in place, even when you open a new Safari window or quit and reopen Safari. And when you click a link to another website from a pinned tab, the other website opens in a new tab, ensuring your pinned tab always shows the website you pinned.
To pin a tab, drag the tab to the leftmost side of the tab bar, and when the tab shrinks to show just the website's favicon, simply drop it in place. You can also select Window -> Pin Tab from the menu bar, or right-click (Ctrl-click) a tab, then choose Pin Tab from the contextual menu.
If you have multiple pinned tabs, you can rearrange them in the Tabs bar by dragging them with your cursor. To unpin a website tab, just drag the pinned tab to the right side of the tab bar and it will expand to become a normal tab again.
6. Kill Them All
If you're done with all your other open tabs because you've found what you were looking for, then you can close all open tabs except the currently active one. Alternately, you can opt to close all open tabs to the right of the one you're currently viewing. Simply right-click the currently active tab and select Close Other Tabs or Close Tabs to the Right .

As usual, this is an excellent video... I suppose these new features will take a bit getting used to. But, my initial disappointment is that the infamous 'This page is consuming a large amount of memory' (or some such, causing me to bolt back to Chrome which I don't want.) And, Safari seems VERY slow to load pages. I am hoping these issues will be 'tuned' shortly.
Thanks, it looks like the new tab fxns will actually be helpful for teaching students to research (by saving and organizing resources for further study) instead of “bookmark and forget.” I joined your Patreon group today, your videos are a treasure
Am on an iPad Pro. When I open the new safari app there are a lot of little windows at the bottom of the display. Most say “start page” but some have old tabs from previous (IpadOS 14) pages. The labels underneath those windows have names but other are start page. There is bar at the top of those small windows and if I pull down all the little windows disappear and will come back if reopen safari. How do I get rid of (delete) some 8 or more empty start pages.
Pete: That's the tab bar. It shows your tabs like on a computer, but at the bottom so you can easily tap them with your finger while holding your iPhone with one hand. Tap the tab overview (bottom right, looks like two squares) and you can close tabs like before.
Thank you Gary. The iphone only shows a tab title and a long press brings up options, including delete. iPad Pro safari is unresponsive to long press. A bug perhaps.
Ignoring that the new design is counter-intuitive (I guess I can learn it), at least running on 11.6/MBP 2016 the new Safari is constantly glitching and crashing, and the "history" functions don't work. As always, maybe just my computer, but this is the first time Safari has been anything other than reliable. Weird.
Hmmm, I'm using Safari 15 (I checked) on Catalina on an iMac, but my tab options and look haven't changed and it doesn't look anything like what you're describing. I suspect that's because I can't upgrade to Big Sur, no less Monterey, because my perfectly functioning iMac is from 2013. Oh well. Probably not worth buying a new iMac just for those features.
Larry: You need to be using Big Sur to see the new tabs.
I'm using private windows and I can't see the ability to create Tab groups. Why ? Is there a workaround ? Thank you
Paulhac: Private windows are supposed to be temporary and data isn't saved for them. That's one of their main features. So no Tab groups as that would be keeping them around as you switched groups.
Hi Gary, wonderful as always thank you for all you do. Is there a way to reorder the tab groups once they are created? Thanks
Kathy: Yes. Just drag them up and down in the sidebar.
Hi Gary, I’ve been trying to do that but when I select the tab group it just highlights the name as though I’m trying to rename the group. Not sure what I’m doing or not doing…although I can reorder them on iOS…thanks in advance.
Kathy: Sounds like you are clicking on it (press down and lift up). You need to drag it (press down, move, then lift up).
Hi Again, strange since I'm able to reorder things in sidebar in many other apps like in mail but it doesn't work in Safari in this case for me. I restarted and still no luck. Strange gremlin I guess.

Tips and tricks for using Private Browsing on Mac
Private Browsing is a useful mode on Mac with Safari. It means websites you visit aren’t saved in your history, with iCloud, Smart Search, and more. Follow along for a look at how to use Private Browsing, the keyboard shortcut to quickly open a new private Safari window, setting it as your launch default, and more.

Using a Private Browsing window includes a number of privacy features. In a support document , Apple details how a Private Browsing window works as of macOS Big Sur and Safari 14.
- Browsing initiated in one tab is isolated from browsing initiated in another tab, so websites you visit can’t track your browsing across multiple sessions.
- Webpages you visit and your AutoFill information aren’t saved.
- Your open webpages aren’t stored in iCloud, so they aren’t shown when you view all your open tabs from other devices.
- Your recent searches aren’t included in the results list when you use the Smart Search field.
- Items you download aren’t included in the downloads list. (The items do remain on your computer.)
- If you use Handoff , Private Browsing windows are not passed to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or other Mac computers.
- Changes to your cookies and website data aren’t saved.

Safari: How to move window or tab from one Profile to another Profile

I've been playing around with profiles on the newly updated Safari. How do you move a window or tab from one Profile to another Profile? Sometimes when I click on links in email, it opens up in the wrong Profile (e.g., Personal) when I really want it to open in my Work Profile. However, I can't find a way to move a window that is in Personal Profile over to Work Profile. Yes, I can manually copy and paste but that defeats the idea of something more seamless or semi-automated.
macrumors demi-god
I suspect you cannot move a page in that way. The cookies of different profiles are separate. If you move the page, the associated state wouldn't be able to go with it unless Apple did a lot of complex thinking to make that happen.

I'm just now playing with the new Profiles feature, and have the same question. Prior to setting up a couple new profiles, I had probably 30-40 tabs open in my 'personal' profile. How am I supposed to sort those tabs into the new profiles? Is copy/paste the only option? That does seem odd...

A page is more than just the URL that you typed into the address bar. A page usually has a full-blown application running inside it with application state such as login information and many, many other things. That state would have to be moved along with the page, since Safari keeps that data completely separate for each profile. On the surface it seems like Apple could have just reviewed the contents of Settings/Privacy/Manage Website Data and moved the entries along with the page being moved to the new profile. But that's a hard problem and is likely impossible to achieve. To do it, one thing they'd have to consider is that some of the entries in that data could be associated with more than one tab and you might only be moving one of them; so sometimes they'd move the entries and other times they would have to copy them. A likely insurmountable problem is that there could be conflicts when moving a tab to a another profile - the named domain could already exist in the target profile's data and there would be no way to merge the entries from the source and target profile. Only the webpage developers would know if that is possible. A simple example is if two different profiles have the same website open but logged in as different users. The application I'm currently working on could support that, but many websites couldn't - they might share login information between all open tabs (within a profile). Maybe Apple could provide a simple way to just open the URL's from a collection of tabs in a new profile. But, many of those tabs would not be in the state they were in before; sometimes they'd be in completely unusable states. Users would complain and consider it to be an Apple bug. I don't see what Apple can do about this. It's even hard for them to explain why they didn't try to do it. It could be that Apple's profiles are an example of "no good deed goes unpunished". They're going to take a lot of heat as users try to deal with hundreds of legacy tabs that they want to organize into profiles.

Click to expand...

I haven‘t found a way to do that in iOS, however, you can move entire tab groups from one profile to another on iOS and MacOS. So you could create a tab group from the tab you’d like to move and move that tabgroup to the other profile, then sort the tab to wherever you’d like it to be. A bit tedious, but at least there is a way. Click to expand...

I did a quick test of that approach and it does seem to retain the logged-in state of the pages. I have to do some more testing to figure out the implications of that. There's always something to learn when you're surprised.

How to "alt+tab" to switch windows on a mac.
If you're a Mac user familiar with Windows' Alt+Tab task switching shortcut, you'll feel right at home with macOS's built-in equivalent. Here's how to use it.
Quick Links
Switching open apps with ease, exposing open window thumbnails with command+tab, quitting and hiding apps with command+tab, quickly switching between open app windows.
If you're a Mac user familiar with quickly switching between apps on Windows using Alt+Tab, you might be delighted to learn that there is a built-in way to do something very similar on a Mac. Here's how.
In the world of Windows, many users are familiar with a feature often called "Task Switcher" that allows you to quickly switch between open applications by pressing Alt+Tab . This feature has been in Windows since Windows 2.0 in 1987, and macOS has a similar shortcut.
If you'd like to quickly switch between open apps on a Mac, press Command+Tab. A row of app icons will appear in the center of your screen. If you hold the Cmd key down while tapping the Tab key, the cursor will move between the icons from left to right.
You can also hold down Command+Shift and tap "Tab" to move the selection cursor in the opposite direction---from right to left. Or you can press Command+Tab and use the left- and right-arrow keys to select an app.
Once you've highlighted the app you want to switch to, release Command+Tab and the app will be brought into the foreground.
There are other things you can do with the Command+Tab switcher. If you press Command+Tab, highlight an app's icon, then push the up or down arrow, you will launch a mode that shows thumbnails of all that app's open windows on the screen. This is similar to a long-time macOS feature called Exposé or Mission Control .
From there, you can select any window you'd like by clicking on it with your mouse pointer or by highlighting the window with the left- and right-arrow keys and pressing Return.
You can also manage open applications with the Command+Tab shortcut. With the Command+Tab app list open, highlight an app and press the "Q" key to quit the application. Or you can press the "H" key to hide or unhide the application.
Here's a related window management tip that doesn't involve Command+Tab. If you have two or more windows from the same app open and would like to cycle through them with a keyboard shortcut, press Command+` (that's Command and the backtick /tilde key).
You can also press Command+Shift+` to cycle through them in the opposite direction. When you find the window you'd like in the foreground, just release the keys. Happy app switching!
How to merge separate Safari windows into one on Mac
When you’re using Safari , there might be times when you have separate windows open. Maybe you have one window open for work and another for personal browsing. Or, maybe you’re researching one topic in one window and a different one in another window.
Whatever the case may be, there might come a time when you want to merge all of those windows and just use various tabs for your browsing. Here’s how to merge separate Safari windows into one.
Merge the windows
While using Safari, just follow these two simple steps to combine windows:
- Click Window from the menu bar.
- Select Merge All Windows .
Once you do this, the tabs from your other open window(s) will pop into the right side of the window you’re currently using. Now, you can see everything you need to see in one spot just by moving through the tabs.
Safari is a terrific browser, and there are always little tips and tricks that you can use to make it even better. Do you have any that you would like to share with our readers? If so, feel free to leave a comment below!

How to Group Tabs in Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox
Don't waste any more of your precious time—get those browser tabs organized!
Quick Links
How to group tabs in google chrome, how to group tabs in edge, how to group tabs in firefox, how to group tabs in safari, key takeaways.
- Group tabs in Chrome by right-clicking any tab, selecting Add tab to new group , and naming/color-coding it for easy management.
- Edge allows tab grouping by right-clicking a tab or using the Tab actions menu for suggested groups.
- Firefox lacks built-in tab grouping, but the Simple Tab Groups add-on helps create, hide, and manage tab groups efficiently.
- Safari keeps it simple with a dropdown menu, followed by creating a new group.
If you're a tab hoarder, tab groups are the best way to organize your browsing experience, so it's time to learn how to group tabs in the most popular browsers: Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox.
Grouping tabs in Google Chrome is quite easy. To do so, right-click on any tab you want to add to a tab group. Select Add tab to new group and then name and color code your tab group. This helps you manage tab groups when you have multiple groups open.
To add more tabs to an existing group, drag and drop them near the tab group. Alternatively, right-click the tab you want to add to the group, click on Add tab to group , hover your mouse over it, and select the tab group where you want to add it.
If you use the same set of tabs frequently (perhaps for work), you can save the tab group in Chrome by right-clicking the tab group name in the tab bar and turning Save group on. Essentially, it is a bookmark of different tabs that you can access with a single click, and the saved tab group appears on your bookmark bar.
Like Chrome, Edge also lets you group tabs by right-clicking any tab and selecting Add tab to new group . In the same way, you can drag and drop tabs (once you've created a group) to add or remove them from the group.
However, Edge also offers another simpler way to group tabs. Click on the Tab actions menu icon (in the top-left corner) and select Organize Tabs . Edge then shows suggested tab groups, giving each of them a suitable name. If you need to change the tab groups, you can drag them into/out of the group. Then, click Group tabs , and voilà, your tabs are organized.
If you can't see the Tab actions menu, go to edge://settings/appearance, scroll down to Customize Toolbar, and turn on the Show tab actions menu .
Unfortunately, Firefox does not have a built-in feature for grouping tabs, so you'll have to resort to add-ons to manage multiple tabs in Firefox . Though there are several add-ons you can try, Simple Tab Groups is quite a popular and handy one.
Download: Simple Tab Groups for Firefox (Free)
Once you've downloaded the add-on, right-click any tab, select Move tab to the group , and then Create new group . Name the tab group and move all related tabs to the group.
Simple Tab Groups hides the grouped tabs from your window to declutter the screen. To access tab groups, click the extension icon and select Simple Tab Groups . From here, you can create new tab groups or click any existing tab group to open it. Right-clicking the group name shows more options, like discarding, exporting, or opening tabs in a new window.
You can also create a new group by clicking the extension icon , selecting Simple Tab Groups , and choosing Create new group .
Pin the extension to the toolbar to open tab groups quickly.
To create a tab group in Safari , follow these steps.
- Click the down icon (next to the sidebar icon) and select New Empty Tab Group if you don't want to add any tab to the group for now.
- If you already have tabs open, you can select New Tab Group with X Tabs to add all the open tabs to the newly-created group.
- Once you've created a tab group, Safari lets you rename it to your liking.
- You can also access the option to create a tab group by clicking on File .
Once you've organized all the tabs into groups, click the down arrow (beside the sidebar icon) to see all the different tab groups and select the one you want to open.
iOS 17.4.1 Safari no longer offering “open in [App]” option on link pop-up menu
Last night, I upgraded to iOS 17.4.1 on my iPad. Previously, when I used Safari and held my finger over a link to activate the pop-up menu with various options (e.g. “open link in new tab”), one of those options was to open that link in an app I had installed. For example. If the link was to an Instagram page, I would get an option to “Open link in Instagram” or Reddit or whichever app. That option has now disappeared. It still exists on my iPhone which is operating on iOS 17.3.1, so I’m quite certain it is related to the iOS update. I can’t find any setting toggle to restore this functionality in any settings. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

7. On macOS Safari, you can create a new Safari window by dragging a tab out of the tab bar.
