Calendar-year schedule, interconnected events heighten drama and consequence for players and fans

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – The PGA TOUR today released its 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and FedExCup Playoffs schedule, with events interconnected like never before to deliver maximum drama and consequence, as the TOUR returns to a calendar-year schedule for the first time since 2012. The FedExCup Fall portion of the 2024 FedExCup Season, which will finalize the top 125 for the 2025 season, will be announced at a later date.

The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season, consisting of 36 events, begins in January with the “Opening Drive” at The Sentry and Sony Open in Hawaii – where all players start with zero FedExCup points and look to get off to a strong start in the race for the FedExCup. The Wyndham Championship once again serves as the culmination of the Regular Season, with only 70 players advancing to the FedExCup Playoffs. The Regular Season schedule includes the 50th playing of THE PLAYERS Championship and the four Major Championships, eight Signature Events (referred to as “Designated events” in 2023), 18 Full-Field Events and five Additional Events.

“We are excited about the roll-out of the PGA TOUR’s reimagined schedule and what the season will offer to our fans: a January start with stars competing head-to-head more often, alongside the weekly drama of life-altering moments and the emergence of new stars,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan. “While winning on the PGA TOUR continues to be the ultimate – and most difficult – challenge, we have further connected every tournament, with more at stake each week. From The Sentry through the FedExCup Playoffs and into the soon-to-be-announced FedExCup Fall, this new, cadence will create consistent excitement for our fans and reward players like never before. We are grateful to the membership – especially the Player Directors and Player Advisory Council – as well as our tournaments and partners for the collaboration that has set us up for an exciting 2024.”

New to the list of Signature Events in 2024 is the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, to be played at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. The reimagined event will see a significant adjustment to its traditional Pro-Am format. Amateurs will now compete alongside professionals (80 players) over the first two rounds, with the competition limited to professionals only for the final two rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The eight Signature Events, which are limited-field tournaments with increased prize money and FedExCup points (700 points to the winner), are as follows:

• The Sentry (January 1-7) • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (January 29-February 4) • The Genesis Invitational (February 12-18) • Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 4-10) • RBC Heritage (April 15-21) • Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12) • the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9) • Travelers Championship (June 17-23)

The three player-hosted invitationals (The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday) will feature a 36-hole cut to the top 50 and ties and any player within 10 shots of the lead, and a redistribution of prize money that allocates 20 percent to the winner ($4 million), up from 18 percent. The remaining five Signature Events will not have a cut and will continue to allocate 18 percent to the winner.

The 2024 schedule cadence connects events through several new eligibility paths, allowing trending players to earn Signature Event starts and ensuring every member the opportunity to compete alongside the game’s best.

The Sentry is the season’s first Signature Event and includes PGA TOUR winners from the previous calendar year as well as the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings (i.e., those who qualify for the BMW Championship, the second FedExCup Playoffs event).

Eligibility for the remaining seven Signature Events (field sizes anticipated to be between 70-80 players) includes the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings and 15 members who can play their way in through The Next 10 and The Swing 5.

The Next 10 represents the top 10 members, not otherwise exempt, from the FedExCup standings. The Swing 5 includes the top five FedExCup points earners, not otherwise exempt, from the swing of Full-Field and Additional events preceding each Signature Event.

Below is an overview of timing for The Next 10 and The Swing 5 for the seven Signature Events, outside The Sentry.

• AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (January 29-February 4) - The Next 10 – from the final FedExCup Fall standings - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open

• The Genesis Invitational (February 12-18) - The Next 10 – from the final FedExCup Fall standings - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix Open

• Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 4-10) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through The Classic in The Palm Beaches - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Mexico Open at Vidanta and The Classic in The Palm Beaches

• RBC Heritage (April 15-21) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through the Masters Tournament - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Puerto Rico Open, Valspar Championship, Texas Children’s Houston Open and Valero Texas Open

• Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through AT&T Byron Nelson - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Corales Puntacana Championship, Zurich Classic of New Orleans and AT&T Byron Nelson

• the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through RBC Canadian Open - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Canadian Open

• Travelers Championship (June 17-23) - The Next 10 – from the current FedExCup standings through U.S. Open - The Swing 5 – top FedExCup points earners from Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Canadian Open

Signature Event eligibility will also include current season tournament winners (excluding Additional Events), PGA TOUR members inside the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking (through the preceding week) and four sponsor exemptions earmarked for PGA TOUR members. The three player-hosted invitationals will also have one tournament host exemption, which is not restricted to PGA TOUR members: the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption (The Genesis Invitational), the Arnold Palmer Cup Exemption (Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard) and the Jack Nicklaus Award for NCAA Division I National Player of the Year (the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday).

The Wyndham Championship (August 5-11) concludes the FedExCup Regular Season and finalizes the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10, which will award a doubled prize pool of $40 million, with $8 million going to the winner. Following the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship is the 18th edition of the FedExCup Playoffs.

• The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings qualify for the first FedExCup Playoffs event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship (August 12-18) at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, and are exempt for Full-Field Events and THE PLAYERS in 2025.

• From there, the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings advance to the BMW Championship (August 19-25), contested for the first time at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado. Castle Pines Golf Club hosted a TOUR event, The International, from 1986-2006. Those 50 players are fully exempt for the following season and earn the additional distinction of qualifying for Signature Events in 2025, as well as THE PLAYERS.

• After the BMW Championship, the top 30 will move on to the season-ending TOUR Championship (August 26-September 1) at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta where the FedExCup champion will be crowned and awarded a record $25 million bonus.

As with the upcoming 2023 FedExCup Fall, the 2024 FedExCup Fall will finalize top 125 eligibility for the next season, providing exempt status for Full-Field Events, as well as a spot in THE PLAYERS. While players in the top 50 will continue to be eligible for FedExCup Fall events, players ranked No. 51 and beyond carry over their FedExCup Points from the Regular Season and FedEx St. Jude Championship and will continue to accumulate points through the FedExCup Fall toward their eligibility status for 2025. Additionally, the top 10 players in the FedExCup standings, not otherwise exempt, from the FedExCup Fall are eligible for two Signature Events in 2025 as outlined above – the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational. This allows for trending players to emerge from the FedExCup Fall.

In addition to 500 FedExCup points, benefits of winning during the FedExCup Fall include a two-year PGA TOUR exemption, entry to the season-opening The Sentry and THE PLAYERS, as well as eligibility into those Major Championships that invite PGA TOUR winners.

Some additional items to note for 2024:

• The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season and Playoffs include events contested in the United States (33), Mexico, Scotland (2), Canada, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

• The Sony Open in Hawaii (January 8-14), a Full-Field event, will mark the debut of the PGA TOUR’s new members from the DP World Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.

• Due to a crowded sports calendar, the Farmers Insurance Open (January 22-27) played in San Diego will feature a Saturday primetime finish on CBS/Paramount+ for the third consecutive season. The fifth annual APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Invitational will be played January 27-28.

• Mexico’s national open, the Mexico Open at Vidanta (February 19-25), moves to February after being contested in April 2023.

• The TOUR will return to South Florida for the 52nd playing of The Classic in The Palm Beaches (February 26-March 3) at PGA National Resort. The TOUR expects to announce a new title sponsor in the near future.

• With support from Proud Partners Comcast Business, Optum and Morgan Stanley, THE PLAYERS Championship (March 11-17), the TOUR’s flagship event at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, will be contested for the 50th time in 2024.

• With a new five-year title sponsor, the Texas Children’s Houston Open (March 25-31) moves from the fall portion of the schedule to March.

• The Myrtle Beach Classic (May 6-12), a 300-FedExCup point event played additionally the week of the Wells Fargo Championship, debuts at Dunes Golf & Beach Club. Other Additional Events in 2024 include the Puerto Rico Open (March 4-10), Corales Puntacana Championship (April 15-21), TBA event (July 8-14) and Barracuda Championship (July 15-21). The TOUR expects to make an announcement soon on the July 8-14 TBA event.

• For the third consecutive season, three tournaments will be part of both the FedExCup and the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai: Genesis Scottish Open (July 8-14), which is co-sanctioned by both Tours; the TBA event scheduled for July 8-14; and the Barracuda Championship (July 15-21), which allow access to DP World Tour members.

• The RBC Canadian Open (May 27-June 2) returns to Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for the first time since 2019.

• The PGA TOUR will not hold an event the week of July 29-August 4, when the Olympic Men's Golf Competition will be contested at Le Golf National in Paris. The 2024 FedExCup Regular Season concludes the following week at the Wyndham Championship (August 5-11).

• The 15th Presidents Cup (September 24-29) heads to The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where the International Team, captained by Mike Weir, will face off against the U.S. Team, captained by Jim Furyk. The three Global Partners of the Presidents Cup are Citi, Cognizant and Rolex.

Domestically, the PGA TOUR season will be televised on CBS/Paramount+, NBC/Golf Channel/Peacock and PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+.

How the 2024 pga tour schedule will look and function.

As the PGA Tour gets ready to officially announce its new-look 2024 schedule next week, all but five of the Tour’s biggest tournaments, in a slight change of course, will feature cuts.

The news was first reported by Golfweek’s Eamon Lynch and confirmed to GolfChannel.com by a source with knowledge of the 2024 PGA Tour schedule that will be unveiled on Tuesday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first playoff event. The Tour told Golfweek that it would not offer comment until its official announcement.

As part of the new schedule, there will be 16 of what will now be called, as Golf.com’s Sean Zak first noted, signature events – formerly called elevated and then designated – this upcoming season: the four major championships, The Players, three FedExCup playoff events, The Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, Memorial Tournament and Travelers Championship. Except for the Maui event formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, Pebble and Genesis (the non-signature WM Phoenix Open bisects the latter two), they will be paired and staggered on the calendar and separated by at least two consecutive non-signature events, which GolfChannel.com’s Rex Hoggard reported in May .

The Tour had already revealed that these events would feature smaller fields (70 to 80 players in most cases, excluding the majors, Players and Sentry), plus larger purses and FedExCup payouts, and no cuts. However, that last part was unpopular with a portion of the Tour’s tournament hosts and membership, including Tiger Woods, who said during the Masters, “There’s still some ongoing discussions about some of the designated events and whether or not we’re going to have cuts going forward. I certainly am pushing for my event [the Genesis Invitational] to have a cut.”

The Tour’s chief tournaments and competitions officer, Andy Pazder, told Hoggard in June, “We’ve announced that they would be no-cut events but that’s something that if there’s support for a change there, could be that it’s some of the designated events, all of the designated events or none of the designated events [have a cut], we’ll have a conversation around that.”

GolfChannel.com has confirmed Golfweek’s initial report that 36-hole cuts will be part of all but five of the signature tournaments. The events that won’t have cuts will be The Sentry, Pebble, Heritage, Wells Fargo and Travelers. For the non-major, non-playoff and non-Players events with cuts – Genesis, API and Memorial – the cut will be the top 50 and ties or, as one source said, the 10-shot rule.

Here is a look at the 2024 schedule, including the fall events:

Returning to a calendar-year schedule for the first time since 2012, the PGA Tour has described the events as being "interconnected like never before to deliver maximum drama and consequence".

The FedExCup Regular Season will consist of 36 events.

The 2024 season begins in early January with the 'Opening Drive' double-header at The Sentry and Sony Open in Hawaii, and runs through to the Wyndham Championship in early August.

At the end of the regular season, the top 70 players will advance to the FedExCup Playoffs.

"We are excited about the roll-out of the PGA Tour's reimagined schedule and what the season will offer to our fans: a January start with stars competing head-to-head more often, alongside the weekly drama of life-altering moments and the emergence of new stars," said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

"We are grateful to the membership - especially the Player Directors and Player Advisory Council - as well as our tournaments and partners for the collaboration that has set us up for an exciting 2024."

The release of the 2024 calendar comes two months after the the PGA Tour and DP World Tour announced a shock proposed agreement with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which funds LIV Golf, to form a new joint commercial entity in order to "unify the game".

The 'signature events' explained

Previously referred to as 'designated events' in 2023, the newly-renamed signature events underline the continued evolution of the PGA Tour's season format.

The eight events are limited-field tournaments with increased prize money and FedExCup points.

Five of these will not feature a cut, but the three player-hosted invitationals - The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial Tournament - will still feature a 36-hole cut to the top 50 and ties and any player within 10 shots of the lead.

The eight 'signature events' are as follows:

  • The Sentry (January 1-7)
  • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (January 29-February 4)
  • The Genesis Invitational (February 12-18)
  • Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 4-10)
  • RBC Heritage (April 15-21)
  • Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12)
  • the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9)
  • Travelers Championship (June 17-23)

Explaining the qualification process for these events, the PGA Tour said in a statement: "The 2024 schedule cadence connects events through several new eligibility paths, allowing trending players to earn Signature Event starts and ensuring every member the opportunity to compete alongside the game's best.

"The Sentry is the season's first Signature Event and includes PGA TOUR winners from the previous calendar year as well as the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings (i.e. those who qualify for the BMW Championship, the second FedExCup Playoffs event).

"Eligibility for the remaining seven Signature Events (field sizes anticipated to be between 70-80 players) includes the top 50 members from the 2022-23 FedExCup standings and 15 members who can play their way in through The Next 10 and The Swing 5."

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is a new addition to that list for 2024 and will feature a revised format. Amateurs will now compete alongside professionals (80 players) over the first two rounds, with the competition limited to professionals only for the final two rounds.

Beem: Designated events with cuts will create more excitement

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has stepped away to 'recover from a medical situation'

2002 PGA Championship winner and Sky Sports' Rich Beem on the new calendar:

"Looking at the schedule I think there's very few surprises. The designated events and those three which are designated, where they will have cuts - the ones that Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer host - they are going to have a cut into the low 50 [players] and then it will be an increased purse to the winner from $3.6m to $4m.

"I think that will create a lot more excitement for fans at home and for us watching on TV just for the simple fact that a lot of times this year, especially on Fridays, we are looking at a lot of drama for some players trying to finally make the cut.

"If you look at the way, even the top players in the world play the game at the highest level, they are grinding it as much as they possibly can to stick around for the final 36 because they know anything is possible.

"I'm glad we have at least three of those designated events, out of the eight, that are going to go ahead and have a cut line. I think that's going to be really valuable. What happens with that will determine whether we have cuts going forward in those designated events."

2024 pga tour schedule release date

These Are the PGA Tour Schedule Changes Coming in 2024

  • Author: Bob Harig

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — There is now more clarity on what the PGA Tour schedule will look like in 2024 and beyond.

After nearly a week of conjecture following a memo sent to players, commissioner Jay Monahan had a news conference on Tuesday at TPC Sawgrass, site of this week’s Players Championship.

Several issues are now more apparent, with others still to be worked out over the coming year. Here are the highlights.

There Will Be Eight Designated Events

For the purposes of explanation, the Tour is removing the four major championships, the Players Championship and the three FedEx Cup playoff events from the discussion. They are part of the 16 events that the majority of players will compete in every year. The playoff events are all no-cut events.

The other designated events will include the season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions, with the field expanded to the top 50 in FedEx Cup points from the previous year as well as tournament winners from the preceding year. The legacy events—Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational and Memorial are also designated events. Then there are four more to be determined.

In a switch from the original plans this year, the four other designated events are expected to be locked in for several years. They will not rotate.

Small Fields, No Cuts

The eight events will all have fields between 70 and 80 players with no cuts. That means including the playoffs, there will be 11 tournaments that do not have a cut in a 34-week schedule.

Qualifications

The top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings—or those who make it to the BMW Championship, the second playoff event—will comprise the majority of those who qualify for designated events.

Then the Tour is going to a system that rewards more recent play. The top 10 in the latest FedEx Cup standings who are not otherwise exempt will be eligible. And to further narrow it down, the top five points-earners in the most recent non-elevated events (those between designated events) will also earn spots. That brings the field to 65.

There will also be spots for the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking who are not otherwise exempt; current-year PGA Tour winners of full-points events (opposite-event winners do not automatically qualify) and four sponsor exemptions. With those, fields are projected to be at 70 or more. There will be no alternate list.

Minimum Requirements

There are none other than the 15-tournament minimum required for membership. This year, there are 20 events with 19 required. Next year, including the majors and Players and playoffs, there will be 16. There is no requirement to play any of them. The Tour will also scrap its requirement that players compete in three non-designated events, as is the case this year.

The Schedule Cadence

The Tour said non-designated events will no longer be isolated. For example, the Honda Classic was between two designated events on either side. The plan is have at least two non-designated events and often three between them. That allows those tournaments to attract some top players who don’t want to take so much time off. It also creates a mini-qualification system for the upcoming designated events.

FedEx Points

A final determination has not been made but designated events are going to be awarding more points. Right now, the majors and Players give 600 points to the winner, with 550 to the legacy events and 500 to regular events. It is likely that the majors and designated events will be increased while regular events will stay at 500 points. This will put more of a premium on getting into the designated events.

Player Impact Program

Next year the bonus program will pay $50 million to 10 players, with the other $50 million that was part of it this year being redirected into the FedEx Cup bonus pool and the Comcast Business Tour bonus pool. Those who partake in the bonus pool will have no requirement to play in designated events.

Not many details have come out about how the fall events following the Tour Championship will work. The Tour is returning to a calendar-year schedule in 2024, and the fall events will largely be for players to secure their playing privileges for the following year. Only the top 70 qualify for the FedEx playoffs, so these tournaments—likely seven—will determine who finishes among the top 125 for the following year.

But they will also be a way to qualify for designated events. Points will continue on from the regular season and the Tour will enact some sort of system that uses the continuation of FedEx points to help players qualify for the early-season designated events.

PGA Tour Schedule 2024: Dates, Locations, Changes, & Signature Events

Author image

The complete schedule for the 2024 PGA Tour season has been officially released.

At the beginning of the year, all players start with zero FedEx Cup points, giving everyone a fresh start for the upcoming season.

In 2024, the competition will officially begin on January 4th. There are officially 36 events starting in January with the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

There will be eight signature events with elevated purses, four major championships, 18 full-field events, and five additional tournaments.

The new schedule is designed to up the stakes, delivering maximum consequences and drama every week.

According to PGA Tour Commissioner, Jay Monahan, the schedule will challenge their players, connecting every tournament resulting in higher stakes every week.

The 2024 PGA Tour Schedule

There will be eight signature events that will feature increased purses and FedEx Cup points.

The newest edition to the signature events will be the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. As an signature event, it’ll give newer players a chance to qualify for other tournaments throughout the year.

Unlike this past season, signature events are only expected to feature 70-80 players. Every signature event will require players to qualify via FedEx Cup rankings or by playing their way in.

In total, the Tour will have 33 events played in the U.S., two in Mexico and Scotland. The PGA Tour will also stop in Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

There’s more on the line this year too and the purses are bigger than ever. While not all purses have been announced, most signature events are valued at $20 million or more.

Check out the final 2024 PGA Tour schedule below.

2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs Schedule

Along with the 2024 PGA Tour schedule, the FedEx Cup Playoffs have also been announced for next year. Following the same format, there will be three events with only the top 70 qualifying for the first event at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The season will round out with the Tour Championship when the winner at East Lake Golf Club will be announced.

No purses have been revealed for the 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs yet.

PGA Tour, PGA Tour schedule, Elevated Events

There will be some changes to the 2024 PGA Tour schedule when the tour unveils it next week.

Not only will the PGA Tour be traveling to Myrtle Beach and Black Desert Resort in Utah, but there will be changes to designated/elevated events.

Elevated or designated events are no longer the monacre used for the big purse tournaments. They are going to be referred to as Signature Events per Sean Zak, a Golf.com writer.

‘Elevated Events’ on the PGA TOUR will be getting a name change in 2024. They will now be called ‘Signature Events’ per @Sean_Zak . The schedule is expected to be released next week. — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) August 2, 2023

Obviously, that’s just semantics, and a weird change at that.

It's that time of the year when the golf world patiently awaits the following year's schedule. Earlier this summer, PGA Tour executives Andy Pazder and Tyler Dennis provided an update on the 2024 season.

The bigger events will be reduced from nine to eight before the FedEx Cup playoffs. Those events will reportedly have between 70 and 80 players in them, per GolfDigest.

Pazder and Dennis anticipate that the $20 million events will remain the same for 2024. Of course, that update was provided just days before the groundbreaking news of the PGA Tour-LIV Golf deal.

So, it’s entirely possible that much of that is still up in the air.

There are still a lot of unknowns surrounding the 2024 schedule, but more should come to light once its revealed. When will the signature events happen? Will the tour change some of them from being right after major championships, which has been a complaint by so many.

The schedule might not change very much. But the landscape of golf appears to be changing rapidly.

But the PGA Tour players are looking to get some measure of control. The addition of Tiger Woods to the policy board could create a massive shift in power in negotiations with the PIF.

Honda Classic dates set for 2024: Why PGA Tour schedule could boost PGA National event

2024 pga tour schedule release date

The Honda Classic may not know its title sponsor or even what it will be called in 2024, but it now knows when it will be played.

The tournament will be moved ahead one week on the schedule next year and will be played Feb. 29 to March 3. The shift comes after radical changes in the PGA Tour schedule were announced this month, changes that should help the tournament formerly known as the Honda Classic when it comes to its field.

Honda, which will be at PGA National for the 18th consecutive year, is expected to once again kick off the Florida Swing, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass and Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort.

PGA Tour schedule change: Why PGA Tour believes 'schedule cadence' will help fields for events like Honda Classic

No more excuses: With proposed PGA Tour schedule, locals stars have no excuse to skip Honda | D'Angelo

But it's what will happen before Honda that should boost the event.

The tour is labeling 16 events as "designated," including the majors, playoffs and the Players. The other eight will include elevated purses of $20 million with limited fields (70 to 80) and no cuts. Commissioner Jay Monahan said this week in Jacksonville that the tour is working on grouping two of those designated events throughout the year followed by three weeks of full-field events.

Going by that plan, the month prior to Honda could look like this: Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational, Phoenix Open, Mexico. The one adjustment that could be made is if Phoenix continues to be held Super Bowl weekend. The Super Bowl is scheduled for Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.

Pebble Beach and Genesis are expected to be designated events. Phoenix, Mexico and Honda will be full-field events.

"Our 2024 schedule will look significantly different with a consistent cadence of designated and full-field events," Monahan said Tuesday during his State of the Tour news conference ahead of the Players Championship.

"Within this framework, those players who qualify for these designated events will be able to better complement their schedules through full-field events, as they return to favorite venues, support their home markets, and solidify positions at the start of the season as well as in advance of the FedEx Cup Playoffs."

Honda, which this year was Feb. 23-26, had just three of the top 30 players in the world rankings and none in the top 17.

2024 pga tour schedule release date

2024 Schedule - Sync to Calendar

World’s best golfers to compete for more than $118 million in prize money, the most in Tour history

NAPLES, Fla., Nov. 16, 2023  – Following yet another historic year for the world’s longest-running women’s sports organization, the LPGA Tour announced today that the 2024 schedule will include 35 events (33 official events) with the world’s best golfers competing for a total prize fund of more than $118 million, with $116.55 million in official money. The 2024 total prize fund represents the highest ever in Tour history, up from approximately $70 million in 2021, a 69% increase.

“The 2024 LPGA Tour schedule reflects our historic growth,” said LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “With new events and improved geographic flow, enhancing the athlete experience, our global reach and competitiveness have never been stronger. As we embark on this season, we celebrate the remarkable journey of women’s golf, anticipating thrilling competition and unforgettable moments for fans worldwide.”

The global schedule will take the LPGA Tour to 15 states in the United States and 10 countries, including two multi-event swings in Asia between February and March and again in October. The year will feature three new events – the previously announced  LPGA Drive On Championship  in Bradenton, Fla., in January and the  FM Global Championship  in Norton, Mass., in September along with the Ford Championship presented by KCC next March. Also, Seri Pak joins major champions Michelle Wie West (Mizuho Americas Open) and Annika Sorenstam (The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican) as an LPGA Tour event host, adding her moniker to the Seri Pak LA Open to be played at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California.

The schedule features a record 16 tournaments with purses of at least $3 million, including 10 non-major and non-Tour Championship events (an increase from four in 2023 and only one in 2021). To date, the four tournaments to elevate their purse size to $3 million in 2024 are the Mizuho Americas Open ($2.75M to $3M), the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give ($2.5M to $3M), the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G ($2.3M to $3M) and the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei ($2M to $3M), which will be contested in November for the first time. The CME Group Tour Championship’s purse saw the biggest increase, from $7M to $11M, which  was announced earlier this week.

So far, a total of 10 events have announced elevated purses for next year, including the Seri Pak LA Open ($1.75M to $2M), the LPGA Match Play at Shadow Creek ($1.5M to $2M), the Portland Classic ($1.5M to $1.75M), and the CPKC Women’s Open ($2.5M to $2.6M).

Additional purse increases are expected to be announced throughout the season, building on the historic growth the Tour has seen over recent years. Since 2021, prize funds for the non-major and non-Tour Championship tournaments have grown 61%, with major championship purses up 78% over that period. The schedule also features 19 events with either travel stipends for athletes or guaranteed minimum payouts.

The LPGA Tour major championship season kicks off this April in The Woodlands, Texas, at The Club at Carlton Woods for The Chevron Championship, followed by the U.S. Women’s Open in May at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, where In Gee Chun first broke onto the scene with her 2015 victory. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will take place outside Seattle at Sahalee Country Club in June, the site of Brooke Henderson’s maiden major win in 2016. The Amundi Evian Championship at Evian Resort Golf Club in France, where countrywoman Celine Boutier raised her first major trophy in 2023, is back in July, and the Tour returns to the famed Old Course at St Andrews – the home of golf – for the AIG Women’s Open, the third time the iconic course has hosted the championship.

LPGA Tour athletes will have the opportunity to compete for their home countries between the Portland Classic and Women’s Scottish Open at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will feature a women’s golf competition for the third-straight Games at Le Golf National from Aug. 8-11, three years removed from Nelly Korda’s gold-medal performance in Tokyo.  Qualifying for the 60-player field  ends following the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (June 24, 2024), with the top-15 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings automatically qualifying for the Games (no more than four players per country), and the remaining sports awarded to the highest-ranked players from countries that do not already have two qualified players.

A year after a dramatic showdown between the United States and Europe that led to the first tie in its history, the Solheim Cup marks its return to the United States at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. next September as the U.S. Team looks to win back the Cup on home soil for the first time since 2017. The Grant Thornton Invitational, where LPGA and PGA TOUR players will team up and compete for a combined $4 million purse, will round out the year in December in Naples, Fla.

There will also be increased network television broadcast opportunities, up from 10 in 2023. ESPN+ will also add featured group coverage to four events, which includes the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship. The other three tournaments will be announced next year. The newly inked deal with ESPN+ will also extend through 2025 .

How to watch the The Players Championship 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the tournament locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the tournament. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming the Players Championship 2024 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble getting the tournament after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .

2024 NCAA Tournament scores, schedule: March Madness bracket, game dates, tipoff times, TV channels, locations

Check out the master schedule for the ncaa tournament so you can watch all the march madness 2024 action.

ncaa-march-madness-banner-logo-g.png

The second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament is rolling along on Sunday as we're treated to 12 more hours of college basketball action. Scores will constantly change and schedules will eventually update. This is the best place to keep up with everything going on as the Sweet 16 approaches.

Marquette and Colorado will start things at 12:10 p.m. ET on CBS, where Golden Eagles coach Shaka Smart will be trying to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2011. Yes, it's really been that long. Even though Smart has coached in nine of the previous 11 NCAA Tournaments, he hasn't made it to the second weekend since taking VCU to the Final Four in 2011. But that should change Sunday considering Marquette is a 4.5-point favorite. As always, we'll see.

The Game of the Day isn't obvious — but I'm partial to Purdue-Utah State. That's a 2:40 p.m. ET tip on CBS between two outright conference champions from leagues that each got six bids to the NCAA Tournament. You don't get this kind of stuff in the Round of 32 too often, and I'm expecting a competitive game even if the Boilermakers are 11.5-point favorites, which is the byproduct of the predictive metrics never loving Utah State in a way that correlates with the accomplishments of Danny Sprinkle's team. Big Ten Player of the Year Zach Edey on one side, Mountain West Player of the Year Great Osobor on the other. Awesome stuff.

Want to stay up to date on all of the action?

The best way is to bookmark this page and keep coming back. It will update in real-time and have every second-round matchup set just as soon as the games dictating them conclude.
