About Nickelback Named the “most successful rock band of the decade” by Billboard in 2009, Nickelback is one of the most commercially viable and important acts of the past two decades. The four-piece, comprised of Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Daniel Adair, is globally celebrated for their career defining and award-winning hits including “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “Far Away” and “Rockstar” which all held top spots on the Billboard 100. Their success includes worldwide sales of more than 50-million units, solidifying their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S., in the 2000’s decade, behind only The Beatles. Their inescapable and irresistible smash “How You Remind Me” was named Billboard’s ‘Top Rock Song of the Decade’. It was the number-one most played song on U.S. radio (any format) in the 2000’s decade according to Nielsen Soundscan, with over 1.2 million spins.

Amongst all of these accolades, they’ve also been named Billboard’s “Top Rock Group of the Decade” and received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, twelve JUNO Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards, and have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2007). With more than 23 chart-topping singles and fans spanning the globe, Nickelback boasts twelve consecutive sold-out world tours, playing to well over 10-million diehard and adoring fans. In March 2023 Nickelback will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the JUNO Awards.

About Brantley Gilbert

With back-to-back Platinum albums and a grassroots following millions strong, Brantley Gilbert’s music has been shared, covered and adopted as the soundtrack to Saturday night and Sunday morning by audiences around the world. The Georgia native who started as the defiant life-of-the-party can still go ‘til sunrise, but he’s also emerged as something far greater: the leader of a massive tribe of hard-working, fun-loving believers for whom electric guitar-shredding, rapping, and twang can go hand-in-hand-in-hand. They call themselves the BG Nation, and when the BG Nation watches Gilbert on a stage, they don’t just see a star. They see themselves. Seven No. 1 hits punctuate his career: “Country Must be Country Wide,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” CMA Awards Song of the Year nominee “Dirt Road Anthem,” “My Kinda Party,” RIAA 5x Platinum-certified “Bottoms Up,” “One Hell of an Amen” and collaboration with Lindsay Ell “What Happens In A Small Town.” Gilbert’s landmark record  Just As I Am  clinched the 2014 American Music Award for Favorite Country Album. Earning praise from the  New York Times , NPR,  American Songwriter , and more, Gilbert has mined a rich vein of conflict between the party and the pew on all of his albums. Instead of toiling in limbo, unable to enjoy good times for fear of Judgment Day, Gilbert fully lives––rowdy friend, man of faith, devoted husband, smitten father––just as he is. Gilbert’s new album,  So Help Me God , includes his latest single “Heaven By Then” with Blake Shelton and featuring Vince Gill, and is available now.

Nickelback, formed in 1996 by Chad Kroeger, is an Canadian mainstream post-grunge rock band hailing from Hanna, Alberta, in Canada.

Before forming Nickelback, frontman Chad Kroeger had performed and developed his songwriting and guitar playing in cover bands across the small town of Hanna in Alberta, Canada. Fed up of the small town life and playing other people’s songs, with money borrowed from his stepfather, the musician moved to Vancouver and recorded hit first set of original material.

Before long bass-playing brother Mike Kroeger added to his talents to the band along with guitarist friend Ryan Peake and drummer Ryan Vikedal. The name Nickelback refers to Mike Kroeger’s time spent working at Starbucks where the bass player would tell his customers “Here’s your nickel back” when handing over change.

Across the nineties Nickelback released the two albums, the “Hesher” EP and the full-length “Curb” to limited commercial and critical appeal. However the release of “The State” in January 2000 highlighted the band’s intentions for mainstream success, aided by the Canadian radio stations content requirements, leading many local stations seeking out local Canadian artists. Following the album Nickelback toured relentlessly, performing over 200 shows.

With major label backing the band’s subsequent release “Silver Side Up” was a raving success, debuting at No. 2, in large due to the success of the No.1 single “How You Remind Me”. The early part of the 2000s was a period of smooth sailing for the band. In 2002 Chad Kroeger contributed the single “Hero” alongside Josey Scott of Saliva, to the soundtrack to “Spider-Man, followed by Nickelback’s next full-length “The Long Road” released in 2003. The album reached No. 6 in the chart and was led by the No. 7 hit single “Someday”. Whilst proving popular, the band came under heavy criticism for the similarity of a number of their songs.

In 2005 the band released their fifth studio album “All the Right Reasons” to much the same multi-platinum sales and Modern Rock hits including the No. 2 “Photograph”, “Savin’ Me” and “Rockstar”. The album proved to be the band’s most popular and was followed by the albums “Dark Horse” in 2008 and “Here and Now” in 2011, which was led by the singles “Bottoms Up” and “When We Stand Together”.

After issuing a their first compilation “The Best of Nickelback, Vol. 1”, their last release on Roadrunner Records, the band released their eighth studio album “No Fixed Address” featuring the radio-friendly “What Are You Waiting For?” and the politically-edged “Edge of a Revolution” in 2014.

Live reviews

I attended the Toronto Budweiser Stage concert on June 27, 2017.

I am a fan of Nickelback and have been from the start. I have all of their albums. I don't understand all of the negative publicity they get. But I guess any publicity is still publicity, so not all bad.

I have seen them once before and compared to that show, I would say this one was not as good. But it was a really good show nonetheless. I liked the mix of songs, old and new, and the lights and background screen was great.

I realize that the amphitheater does not allow for as much pyrotechnics as an indoor stadium setup, and maybe that was the reason for less than the show I saw previously, I don't know. And the last show I saw had the band really demonstrating their talent as musicians, with solos from everybody. This one was mostly just the songs as they are on the albums, with a couple of covers mixed in. I brought my boyfriend to this one, because I thought the show would impress him but it turned out I was a little underwhelmed.

I am a concert junkie and attend up to 30 concerts a year, so maybe I have too many expectations as a fan?

Anyway, I would 100% always recommend going to a Nickelback concert. They are great to see live.

So I bought tickets to Nickelback on a whim. I had a couple of their CDs and liked them so figured I would check them out. I AM SO GLAD I DID! Their performance was fantastic. They had so much energy that it reached out to the crowd and pumped us up even more. They interspersed their songs with some stories of where the idea for the song came or what was happening in their lives when they wrote a particular song (for example, the song "Photograph" and how it came about when Chad Kroeger found an old photo of Joey Moi with a champagne holder on his head) - something I love because it draws the fan deeper into the song and closer to the band. They played a good portion of the new cd out at the time but also played the songs that everyone knew...allowing the crowd to join in and even take over singing the chorus for "How You Remind Me." Chad Kroeger's voice sounded even better than it did on the album, especially during his performance of "Far Away." This concert was one of the best concerts all around that I have been to. If you haven't seen them in concert yet, what are you waiting for??

The concert/music itself was exemplary! I think the power behind the song is excellent, Chad is very relaxed with his crowd. The color and technology on the backdrop was mind boggling. I did NOT care for the warm up band, she was just too nutty, throwing her hair all over the place. I had never heard of them and don't plan on pursuing their music at all. I will say the amount of profanity on the stage is somewhat overwhelming. I had heard before about this so decided to not be so judgmental but there were some older folks around us and I felt they were uncomfortable, the F word did not need to be used in every sentence. I get these are rock stars but we are the people who buy the music and the stage presence could be tweaked a bit. I don't think making fun of individuals in the front rows is appropriate, everyone has a story and that could be a contentious issue for some!

Wish security would have the MOBS of young kids sit down!!!

Overall the music was good, it was worth the price of the ticket!

Nickelback, the band equivalent of marmite are still touring and recording with no signs of slowing down since their formation way back in 1995. The soft-rock band have had a string of US hit albums as well as a huge amount of number ones in their Canadian homeland.

Their fan base is dedicated and have continued to support the band through their whole career and continue to attend concerts in huge numbers. Nickelback performs new material such as 'She Keeps Me Up' with the same amount of energy as their hit singles such as 'Someday' and 'Animals'.

They also salute modern rock contemporaries including the Foo Fighters and Led Zepplin during their show with covers of some of the most famed music. The biggest singalong of the night is of course for 2006 international hit single 'Rockstar' where the audience proudly belt out every lyric of this gruff track. 'Remind Me' follows closely behind, a more balladic end than expected but the crowd seem pleased with the choice.

I am just a casual Nickelback fan, as I prefer my rock music a little harder and with more edge. I actually had a chance to see them back in October 2002 when they opened for Creed, but unfortunately game 4 of the World Series was on so we spent most of the show in the bar until Creed came on.

With all of that said, I went to show with an open mind and I appreciate Nickelback's catalog. I was surprised at how much fun the show was, yes I recognized most of the songs, but they were even better live. It looks like Chad and gang are having a great time on stage. I was a little surprised at how low the sound was, I almost had to take my earplugs out to hear it, I always wear them for good measure as I did too many shows as a ute without them

I enjoy the karaoke portion of the show, when they pulled up members of the audience to help do backing vocals.

Great experience and would see them again.

Bee Movie Script - Dialogue Transcript

Voila! Finally, the Bee Movie script is here for all you fans of the Jerry Seinfeld animated movie. This puppy is a transcript that was painstakingly transcribed using the screenplay and/or viewings of the movie to get the dialogue. I know, I know, I still need to get the cast names in there and all that jazz, so if you have any corrections, feel free to drop me a line. At least you'll have some Bee Movie quotes (or even a monologue or two) to annoy your coworkers with in the meantime, right?

And swing on back to Drew's Script-O-Rama afterwards -- because reading is good for your noodle. Better than Farmville, anyway.

The band themselves were amazing, the show was great. The man can sing live, and do it well.

If you can avoid seeing them at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, then do it. The Staff are rude, and argumentative they don't follow the guidlines on the website and will ruin your experience. Also don't bother getting the VIP package, I spent just shy of $400 a ticket to basically throw my money away. I got in early but that was the height of the "VIP" treatment. There was no meet and great the was no perks and the picture we paid for on stage was done on the ground a good way away.

I highly recommend if you have not seen Nickelback live to see them, it is a great show and they give 100% but don't shell out for any perks, just get basic seats.

I totally loved the show. Had tickets last yr that had cancelled, so was jazzed to get to go. The wait was totally worth it. The show was fantastic, with a thrilling light show. And they were so personable talking to the crowd the whole show and the fact that they took people from the crowd and joked, laughed with them and let them sing along with them was totally awesome. I would recommend them to everyone to see their shows. Can't wait till their next tour here. NICKELBACK TOTALLY ROCKS. They have been my favorite group for quite some time now. I am obviously a biased opinion great fan. And love the new women's tshirts. Keep on Rockin NICKELBACK. I PERSONALLY LOVE YOU GUYS.

Okay - yet wish they would have played more of their music and less talking and engaging audience. Ravinia said concert would go till 10:15 pm and they were done by 9:44 pm. Only one encore song was played and so many of their signature tunes we never heard.

For $150 paid for 2 pavilion seats we were disappointed in lack of music performed. Having audience members come on stage was fun but I wanted to hear band perform Rock

Star song without additional voices took away from the moment. Way too much chatter in between songs unless they planned to play till

Venue said they would. ☹️

Ravinia venue is amazing - wished the

Band would have matched the venue is bringing packed rock show!

Out of the half dozen or so Nickelback shows I've seen, Saturday's show at Hershey Park was by far the BEST. SHOW. EVER! The opening bands, Shaman's Harvest and Daughtery, were both great. The band sounded great as usual. However, you could really tell that the band was having a blast. The best part of the show was the extended encore, which included a spontaneous jam session with Nate & Chris (lead singers of the opening bands). Chad even flat out said, "when you can't get the singer off the stage, you know he's having fun". Thanks for another great show and keeping the audience not only entertained, but included and surprised.

Nickelback Announce 2023 North American Tour With Brantley Gilbert + Josh Ross

In support of last year's  Get Rollin' album, Nickelback have announced a headlining North American tour with special guests Brantley Gilbert  and Josh Ross.

Currently, there's quite a lot of crossover appeal between hard rock and country rock, which makes this tour an exciting one, with Gilbert's time spent on the road late last year with Five Finger Death Punch providing proof that such a demand exists for this type of lineup.

The run includes 35 stops plus two festival dates in the mix for the stretch between the June 12 kickoff and the Aug. 30 conclusion. Tickets will go on sale on Jan. 27 at 10AM local time at Live Nation and VIP packages can be explored at this location .

View the complete list of tour dates below and watch a video announcement from Nickelback as well.

Get Rollin' , Nickelback's 10th studio album, was released on Nov. 18, preceded by three singles — " San Quentin ," " Those Days " and " High Time ." The record hit No. 30 on the  Billboard 200 chart and is the band's first since 2017's  Feed the Machine .

Gilbert also put out a new album,  So Help Me God , in 2022 and Ross, who has one studio album to his name (2020's  Do What You Love ), has released two new singles this year — "On a Different Night" and "Trouble."

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger performs at a concert.

Nickelback doesn’t take themselves as seriously as you might expect.

In a video promoting their upcoming “Get Rollin’ Tour,” the Canadian rockers go behind the scenes to reveal they’re the deep voices behind the epic tour announcement.

“Was that good?” lead singer Chad Kroeger asks his bandmates.

And with that, the group, that has been the butt of music snob’s jokes and memes for years, shows they have a smirking sense of humor too.

Will they bring that tongue in cheek attitude on the road with them?

We can’t say for certain but it is likely that they’ll bring their massive hits like “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “Rockstar,” “Burn It To The Ground” and “Someday” as well as tracks from their recently released 10th studio album “Get Rollin'” to the stage at each and every show.

That includes an Aug. 30 concert at Elmont’s UBS Arena and a pit stop at the annual Tailgates and Tallboys Music Festival in Bloomington, IL from June 14-17.

Best of all, tickets for all concerts can be secured as early as today .

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, Jan. 27, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before seats are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Nickelback 2023 tour schedule

Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger and Daniel Adair launch their North American 38-concert “Get Rollin'” tour at Quebec City’s Videotron Centre on June 12.

From there, the quartet have arena and amphitheater concerts mapped out in Vancouver (June 28), Salt Lake City (July 6), Las Vegas (July 15), Nashville (Aug. 1) and Milwaukee (Aug. 5).

The run concludes on Aug. 30 at Elmont’s UBS Arena .

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, show start times and links to buy tickets can be found here .

Nickelback opening act

Shows won’t start with the headliners taking the stage on this tour.

No, country rockers Brantley Gilbert and Josh Ross will serve as special guests at each and every concert.

Here’s a quick primer on each of the support acts you’ll see if you arrive on time.

Brantley Gilbert , a Jefferson, GA native, is known for his slick country sound. It’s very possible you’ve already seen him on tour before too. Over the past decade, he’s opened for Kid Rock, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson and Luke Combs. Want to check out his music? We recommend his catchy singalong “Bottoms Up” that will have you humming along in no time.

Josh Ross wears his heart on his sleeve. The Ontario-based singer-songwriter belts soaring piano ballads that straddle the line between country and indie pop. For a taste of his versatility, start with Ross’ lyrical “First Taste of Gone” and then give the pulsing “On A Different Night” a try.

Nickelback new music

Things get heavy on Nickelback’s most recent record, “Get Rollin’.”

Right off the bat, it sounds as if the group has pivoted to full-on hard rock with their latest offering as evidenced by the almost metal opening track “San Quentin.”

On track two, Nickelback maintains that energy and brings the guitar solos, menacing vocals and thumping drums to the catchy “Skinny Little Missy.”

From there, the rockers return to their pop radio friendly roots with the friendlier ditty “Those Days” and “High Time.”

Tailgates and Tallboys Festival

From June 14-17, Nickelback has been tapped to headline the annual Tailgates and Tallboys Festival in Bloomington, IL.

The star-studded affair will also bring major country stars like Kane Brown, Parker McCollum, Jelly Roll and Lainey Wilson as well as to the festival grounds for the four-day extravaganza.

Plus, rapper Yung Gravy is slated to appear at the fest as well.

Huge concert tours in 2023

The longer Nickelback’s career goes, the harder it becomes to define what kind of music they make.

Is it metal? Country? Hard rock? Pop?

Let’s just say it’s all of the above.

With that in mind, keep reading — we’ve found five similar groups on tour in 2023 that just might pique your interest.

•  Metallica

•  Morgan Wallen

•  Foreigner

•  John Mellencamp

•  Blink 182

Hey, Hey, Nickelback and Hardy Wanna Be Rockstars on ‘CMT Crossroads’

By Joseph Hudak

Joseph Hudak

There may be no more natural pairing for CMT Crossroads than Nickelback and Hardy . Both appeal to country and rock audiences, both worked with producer Joey Moi, and both have a song called “Rockstar.” On April 6, they’ll mash up their respective styles — and their “Rockstar” singles — for an episode of CMT’s crossover performance series.

Recorded in Nashville earlier in March, the episode features Hardy and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger trading verses on Nickelback’s “Save Me” and “Animals,” and Hardy hits “Truck Bed” and “Give Heaven Some Hell.”

Sean Combs' Homes Raided as Part of Sex Trafficking Investigation

Sean combs' accused 'mule' arrested at miami airport on cocaine and marijuana charges, trump goes after judge’s daughter in hush money trial rant, a brief look at diddy's history of controversies and allegations.

The CMT Music Awards , hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, air Sunday, April 7, at 8 p.m./ET on CBS from the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Zach Bryan, and Ballerini are among the nominees.

Hardy is up for Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year for “Truck Bed.” He’ll kick off his “Quit!!” Tour in May, a headlining trek that runs through July and features Kip Moore, Travis Denning, Ella Langley, and Stephen Wilson Jr.  on select dates.

Review: Nickelback's powerhouse performance rocked White River Amphitheatre

Photo by Orhun Uygur I www.turkphotos.com

Not liking Nickelback? Red flag.

If you weren't at White River Amphitheatre for their concert Friday night, I'm sorry. The legendary rock band from Canada brought their "Get Rollin' Tour" to Washington for a sold-out crowd of more than 20,000.

While the traffic to get out of the venue was something of nightmares, the concert made up for it — you really had to be there. Imagine seeing one of your favorite bands perform live for the first time with several hot air balloons floating in the sky and a full moon above Mount Rainier. We are truly blessed here in the Pacific Northwest when it comes to scenic music venues.

Nickelback — lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger and drummer Daniel Adair — kicked off the night with one of their most recent rock bangers "San Quentin," and they didn't stop there. They proceeded to bless the crowd with some of their more iconic songs right off the bat, like "Animals" and "Savin' Me."

The band has been around since 1995, and they're still going strong — that point was proven Friday night.

"It's so nice to be back on stage," said Chad. Their stop in Auburn, Washington, was the 10th show of their North American tour.

Nickelback was joined by opener and country music star Brantley Gilbert and rising country artist Josh Ross.

I am not sure what is going on with concert etiquette right now, but how has throwing things on stage to artists become a trend? It happened Friday night — the very first song — and Chad quickly shut that down.

"No. No," he said. "You throw [expletive] at me, we're going to walk, and I'm gonna let 20,000 people kick the [expletive] out of you."

Can we please...stop throwing things at artists? A phone at Bebe Rexha, a bracelet at Kelsea Ballerini, whatever that was at Nickelback Friday night. This is why we can't have nice things, guys. Let's be respectful by not assaulting our favorite artists, huh? It's basic human decency at this point.

The rest of the night, Nickelback played the hits we all wanted to hear, including "Far Away," "Someday," "Photograph," "In Front of Me," and "How You Remind Me," accompanied by visuals and explosive fire. It was everything a rock concert should be. They even brought a fan up on stage to sing their iconic hit "Rockstar" with them — the sweetest thing.

As someone who has loved this band since I was in middle school, this show meant a great deal to me. Live music has the power to bring people together, and there is something so special about seeing a band perform live for the first time after decades of being a fan. I can say with my whole chest Nickelback lived up to my expectations.

The "Get Rollin' Tour" traveled next to Ridgefield, Washington over the weekend and then onto Salt Lake City, Utah. You can find more information on the tour online .

Artists set to close out the spring run include Nickelback , Zac Brown Band , Jonas Brothers , Brad Paisley , and Eric Church .

Amazingly, last-minute tickets are more surprisingly affordable.

At the time of publication, our team found seats going for as low as $18 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other concerts have tickets starting anywhere from $26 to $38 before fees.

Plus, you won’t want to sleep on the BBQ contests, trail rides, horse shows, wine tastings, rides and games Rodeo offers, either.

You’re in the right place, Houstonians.

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about the 2024 Houston Rodeo below.

Just a few of our favorites include the BBQ contest, trail rides, horse show, wine tastings and a carnival with rides, games, and food as mentioned above.

There’s also the livestock show, calf scramble, auctions as well as many, many shopping and dining opportunities.

MIKE KROEGER Talks NICKELBACK Hate: 'When People Started Coming At Us, It Did Hurt'

In a new interview with Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station, NICKELBACK bassist Mike Kroeger spoke about "Hate To Love: Nickelback" , a feature-length documentary film about one of Canada's most iconic and globally celebrated rock bands. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET ): "It is the filling in of a few blanks and maybe telling some stories that no one knows; there definitely is that. A big part of, I think, the narrative that's been conceived about NICKELBACK over the years, positive or negative, has largely been done in a vacuum because we haven't really shared that much. And I feel like some of the misunderstandings or fallacies surrounding this band may be our own fault for not telling our story, and this sort of dispels maybe some misunderstandings and also tells our story sort of in our own words.

"Frankly, our name, coupled with the word 'hate', has been sort of used as a clickbait device against us for so many years that we kind of decided to grab the wheel and see how it works for us," he continued. "So we're using our own name as clickbait to see what happens when we do it."

When Meltdown brought up the fact that Mike 's brother, NICKELBACK frontman Chad Kroeger , previously said that he was done answering questions about how much people love to hate his band, Mike said: "Well, you know what? The thing about it is — not to fat shame, but it is the 800-pound gorilla in the room. And I don't mind addressing it myself. And that's why I'm kind of doing the rounds on this stuff, is because I'm like the… I guess I've never really taken any of that very seriously. It's hurt me and my family — as you'll see in the documentary; that's a spoiler alert — but now I don't really care about it and now I kind of wanna use it."

Meltdown then went on to say that he always tells people that Chad "doesn't care what you say about NICKELBACK when he's peeing in his gold toilet," to which Mike replied: "Well, that's one of the misconceptions of this thing. It is kind of designed to dispel or to clean up that NICKELBACK is more than just a monolith brand golem thing that's stomping around the world, playing arenas and doesn't care about what anybody says. Actually, we are people who have feelings and hearts. And when people started coming at us, it did hurt — it really, really did. I can't lie. We just wanna kind of communicate that we're people just like everybody else. We're four pretty ordinary guys that have a extraordinary job. We get to do something that's really, really fun for a living.

"The term 'hate' is often used regarding things in the sort of — without getting too 'therapist-y' — in the cultural lexicon, hate is something that really doesn't mean hate, because hate means you wanna destroy or kill something," he explained. "And maybe there are people that would say that, but the truth is it's a mild annoyance compared to things like starving to death or people literally trying to kill you. You know what I mean? Like, I'll put hate on that. If somebody's trying to murder me or my family, I hate that; I hate that person a lot. But if somebody plays a song that I think I've heard too many times, I can't put it in the same frame."

Trafalgar Releasing , Gimme Sugar Productions and Submarine Entertainment will bring "Hate To Love: Nickelback" to cinemas worldwide for two nights only on March 27 and March 30.

Premiering last September at the Toronto International Film Festival ( TIFF ),the film tells the authentic story of the band from their humble beginnings in Hanna Alberta to their explosive global success in 2001 and the highs and lows that followed. Directed by Leigh Brooks and produced by Ben Jones , the film celebrates the loyalty of NICKELBACK fans and delves into the years of online vitriol while exposing the personal impact it had on each of the band members. The film also unveils the rock group's decision to return after a five-year break with a new record and a hugely successful sold-out tour, finding themselves riding a sudden wave of online love that has introduced their music to an army of new fans and audiences worldwide.

"Hate To Love: Nickelback" offers fans and audiences 90 minutes of translucence — an unvarnished and emotionally revealing look into the career of one of the world's biggest rock bands. Combining never-before-seen archival footage, concert footage, interviews and enthusiastic celebrity advocates like actor Ryan Reynolds and SMASHING PUMPKINS ' Billy Corgan , NICKELBACK 's Chad Kroeger , Ryan Peake , Mike Kroeger and Daniel Adair don't shy away from the band's topsy-turvy legacy as they share compelling and real-life stories alongside life-changing moments that have never before been divulged publicly.

"Hate To Love: Nickelback" is produced by Ben Jones for Gimme Sugar Productions and directed by British filmmaker Leigh Brooks , who has previously worked on films about LIFE OF AGONY and TERRORVISION .

Brooks finished working on "Hate To Love: Nickelback" in June 2023. At the time, he wrote on LinkedIn about the experience: "Wow. 6 years filming the NICKELBACK doc and today was the last day, NICKELBACK and everyone one of the Nickelteam are fine fine people," he wrote. "Eternally grateful the band let us document this amazing film. There were times I didn't think this day would come, and although it feels like a freight train grinding to a halt, I'm really excited for what is pulling up at the station as we speak."

In a February 2023 interview with "Rock Hard With Phil And Tish" , Brooks stated about how he got involved in the NICKELBACK documentary: "Well, basically, funnily enough, I just finished TERROVISION when a friend of mine that I work with quite a lot got a call from Ben , the radio presenter, and he was the first person to play 'How You Remind Me' in the U.K. And [he] said, 'Look, I've gotta do this. I got an EPK to do — electronic press kit — about the [then-]new [ NICKELBACK ] album 'Feed The Machine' . Do you know anyone that could come over and shoot with me and do a piece about the album? So through the TERROVISION doc, it actually landed me this gig.

"At the beginning, I knew nothing about NICKELBACK ," Leigh admitted. "I knew 'How You Remind Me' and I remember I loved the tune at the time. I was one of those people that thought… I didn't, didn't agree with [ NICKELBACK frontman] Chad 's [ Kroeger 's] hairstyle, I didn't agree with some of his dress sense. To be honest, looking back at some of my hairstyles and dress sense at the time, I had no right to throw shade, man… And that was really all I knew. 'Cause I was [into stuff like] BIOHAZARD , I was [into] LIFE OF AGONY . I was [into] METALLICA , which, ironically, these guys [in NICKELBACK ], when they grew up, they, they were bang into SLAYER and ANTHRAX and METALLICA . And yeah, we went over and did this thing on 'Feed The Machine' , and it quickly turned out, it looked like we [were] gonna do like a longer version about all of the albums. And then that morphed into, 'Ah, let's go back and shoot a bit more concert stuff.' And then I found out the guys were going back to Hanna [Alberta, Canada], which is their hometown. And I'm, like, 'What for?' And they're, like, 'We're gonna go play a gig?' I'm like, 'Really?' 'Yeah. The place we used to play when we were really, really young. It was like two and a half thousand people in Hanna. That's it. And I was, like, 'We should be going to film that.' And then all of a sudden it just went from there. Every opportunity, there was a bit more to film or a bit more to explore. But, yeah, the controversy [surrounding NICKELBACK ] definitely intrigued me, 'cause I was, like, 'Well, there's gotta be more to this that meets the eye.' And man , there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. They paved the way for everyone else to get their asses handed to them on the Internet, basically."

In an interview with Robin Nash of Tucson, Arizona's KFMA-FM radio station, Chad Kroeger was asked why he thinks so many people love to hate his band. He responded: "That kind of used to be a thing. I shouldn't say 'that kind of used to be' — that was definitely a thing for a long time. And I think there's been a softening — there really has, thankfully. I'm not sure if it's because we receive a ton of love on TikTok or whatever the hell it is, but for whatever reason the teeth have kind of been removed. It's really nice, it's really nice to not be Public Enemy Number One.

"I think that with the range of songs that we write — from rock to all the softer, melodic stuff, all the way down to… Well, I know that 'Far Away' got played on country stations even and I know that 'Rockstar' — the heavily redacted version — got played on CMT ," he continued. "So when you're going that far and the scope is that wide, it makes it tough to get away from the band if you're not into the band. And if you're trying to switch the radio station three times, and it's just, like, 'Ah, there they are. There's their rock song on the rock station. There's their pop song on the pop station. And oh my God, I can't even go to the country station and get away from these guys.' That type of oversaturation could piss people off. But at the end of the day, we're just a band that makes music.

"I can't stand a couple of bands, but I don't go online and turn into a keyboard warrior and just start hating on them," Chad reasoned. "I just change the channel or I put on something that I wanna listen to."

In February 2023, Chad told "Whiplash" , the KLOS radio show hosted by Full Metal Jackie , that all the negative attention surrounding NICKELBACK has actually contributed to the band's longevity. "Well, I've been saying that for years," he said. "All the detractors, all the haters, all the keyboard heroes, they have no idea how much they keep us in the press loop. It's hilarious. Those people that would love to see us go away, if they really wanted to see us go away, they would just shut up. Because all those bands that came out with us at the same time are all gone, because nobody said anything about them. They all just sort of disappeared. But we've really kind of spun this whole negative thing into a positive thing. And here we are. [ Laughs ]"

Kroeger also talked about all the memes poking fun at NICKELBACK that regularly pop up on the Internet, explaining that "if it's music oriented and we think it's funny, we just leave it there, 'cause the band, collectively, has a great sense of humor. I mean, funny's funny. Just rude and ignorant, that's different. And yeah, obviously, there's tons of that too. But funny is funny. And as the Brits would say, we have no problem taking the piss out of ourselves."

Arguably the most disliked band in America, NICKELBACK has earned a type of hatred so potent it's hard to fathom what they did that was so terrible to the public consciousness. It's gotten to the point that people who enjoy NICKELBACK are denying their fandom and hiding their CDs like criminal contraband.

Asked by Jorge Botas of Portugal's "Metal Global" if he understands how NICKELBACK came to be so disliked by so many people, Chad said: "I think I've got a pretty good grasp of where things kind of went off the rails for us. I think that because we write so many different kinds of music, I think that if you were listening to a radio station any time between 2000 and 2010, '11, '12 even, we were kind of tough to get away from," he explained. "'Cause if you didn't wanna hear it and you changed to a different radio station, you'd probably hear it on there, and then changed to a different radio station, you probably were gonna hear it in so many different places. And we were really tough to get away from. And that's not my fault. [ Laughs ] We just write the songs. And so with that comes backlash. And then what happens is then comedians start making jokes, and then it starts making it on to TV, and then it makes it into movies and stuff like that. And then it just turns into this wave of, it's fun to pick on and it's an easy joke. And I get it. I understand. There are bands that when I hear them on the radio, I… And they're very popular bands… I mean, we all have those. No one is exempt from that. There are certain bands where you just hear them and you just don't like 'em. And other people may — half the world may love them, and I'll just be, like, 'No. I just cannot hear this band one more [time].' And just like everyone else does, I just change the channel. But we became the whipping boy of the music industry for a while there. But whatever. It's just part of the history of the band."

According to Chad , NICKELBACK is not the first group to experience the kind of severe backlash that has earned him and his bandmates the title of "the most hated act in the world."

"It's funny because we were at the American Music Awards , and we were presenting, and we presented to DEF LEPPARD ," Chad recalled to "Metal Global" . "And when we walked backstage afterwards, Joe Elliott and Phil Collen turned to me, and they were just, like, 'Dude, thank you so much.' I'm, like, 'For what?' They were, like, 'For taking the trophy. We get to pass the baton to you for being the most hated band in the world now.' And I was just, like, 'Oh, yeah. 'Cause I want that .'

"And it's funny — we went for dinner with AC/DC in Chicago years and years and years ago," Chad added. "And this whole thing came up. And Brian Johnson said when they released 'Back In Black' , they were the most hated band on the planet. So I feel like we're in good company. [ Laughs ]"

In December 2022, Mike Kroeger was asked by Germany's Rock Antenne if he pays attention to all the online comments about his band. He responded: "I don't really do social media anymore. I have my own Instagram , but I got off Twitter . I never did Facebook , thank God, but I got off Twitter a couple of years ago — three years ago, I guess, now. I'm thinking about getting back on, just because since Elon Musk bought it, it looks like a hilarious, fun time. All these people are so scared, I love it. I might even rejoin, just to see what happens with that guy at the helm, so to speak.

"I'm not scared of comments 'cause I think sometimes even the ones that are assholes can be really funny," he continued. "To me, if something is truly funny, it's funny. Obviously, just to throw hate at something, like us, that's not kind of funny; that's just negative. But sometimes the haters can say some pretty funny things.

"There's a lot of times when you see people… And that's one thing that the Internet kind of has fostered with sites like Reddit , et cetera, is giving people a platform to try to be funny," Mike added. "And a lot of people try to be funny, and that's kind of the problem, because a lot of people aren't funny. So I have to kind of weed through the amateurs to get to the good ones, 'cause there are some good ones in there. There are people who make fun of our band and are funny about it — I'll have a great laugh when I see that — but there is also a contingent of people online who, they want to be funny, but they're just not. And that's just very sad to me."

Back in 2016, a student named Salli Anttonen at the University of Eastern Finland conducted a study to find out why there is so much hate directed towards NICKELBACK . Anttonen analyzed Finnish reviews of the band from 2000 through 2014 for her paper, which was titled "Hypocritical Bullshit Performed Through Gritted Teeth: Authenticity Discourses In Nickelback's Album Reviews In Finnish Media".

Anttonen found that critiques of the band became harsher as they became more popular, noting: "It became a phenomenon where the journalists were using the same (reasons) to bash them, and almost making an art out of ridiculing them."

Even though the study was based solely upon Finnish reviews of the band, the critics' animosity toward the group has been a global phenomenon.

Anttonen concluded: " NICKELBACK is too much of everything to be enough of something. They follow genre expectations too well, which is seen as empty imitation, but also not well enough, which is read as commercial tactics and as a lack of a stable and sincere identity."

NICKELBACK 's latest album, "Get Rollin'" , was released in November 2022 via BMG .

Five Must-See Acts at Festival d'été de Québec 2024

Running from July 4 to 14, FEQ will feature eclectic acts ranging from Alexandra Stréliski to Nickelback

BY Exclaim! Staff Published Mar 26, 2024

Quebec City's Festival d'été de Québec is one of the biggest events of the Canadian music calendar, running for a whopping 11 days from July 4 to 14.

Included on the bill are some of the biggest artists in the world — but, dig a little deeper into the small-font names, and fans will find under-appreciated indie heroes and fast-rising new talent.

Ranging from the ultra-famous to the still-emerging, here are Exclaim!'s must-see artists for FEQ 2024.

Meet Me @ the Altar The Offspring are FEQ headliners — but, further down the bill on that same day, are another pop-punk band with a new spin on a classic sound. It's a great chance to check out the genre's origins alongside its latest chapter .

Nickelback Wait! Don't click away from this article — hear us out for a second! Once the favourite punching bag of music fans, Nickelback have persevered and entered a new phase as loveably self-aware veterans. After Mötley Crüe's recent feuds , Nickelback are our choice for the festival's must-see silly rock band.

Nico Paulo FEQ brings a stacked lineup of indie rock on July 9, including Fleet Foxes, Karkwa, Tokyo Police Club and Hurray for the Riff Raff — but don't miss up-and-coming East Coast singer-songwriter Nico Paulo, whose gorgeous self-titled 2023 album was a low-key highlight of the year .

Alexandra Stréliski Perhaps the biggest curveball of this year's FEQ lineup is that Alexandra Stréliski has ascended to headliner status. A pianist and neo-classical composer on a festival poster in the same font size as Post Malone and the Jonas Brothers? Frankly, we're here for it.

TOBi Having ascended steadily for a few years now, TOBi is finally getting the recognition he deserves. Fresh off a triumphant JUNO Awards ceremony in which he won two trophies , he will be bringing his banging pop rap tunes to the festival stage.

About Brantley Gilbert With back-to-back Platinum albums and a grassroots following millions strong, Brantley Gilbert’s music has been shared, covered and adopted as the soundtrack to Saturday night and Sunday morning by audiences around the world.

Charlotte Cardin, Karan Aujla Win Big at the 2024 Juno Awards: Full Winners List

The canadian music awards ceremony had a special focus on musicians who've had a breakthrough year, including talk and the beaches..

Charlotte Cardin at the 2024 Juno Opening Night Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 23, 2024

The 2024 Juno Awards looked to the future of Canadian music, while also honouring its history.

A quartet of acts who've had major breakthroughs this year won the major awards given out on the CBC-televised broadcast on Sunday night (March 24) live from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Punjabi-Canadian global star Karan Aujla won the TikTok Fan Choice award, the only fan-chosen award of the ceremony. "Sometimes I can't believe I'm that same kid who lost my parents when I was in India, made my way to Canada, and now I'm here!" said the B.C.-based artist, one of Billboard Canada's inaugural cover stars . "If you are dreaming, make sure you dream big."

Charlotte Cardin won album of the year for her album 99 Nights . The 2023 album has propelled the Montreal-based artist to new crossover heights, hitting No. 3 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, while its popular single "Confetti" reached the top 10 of the Canadian Hot 100 and spent 35 weeks on the chart. It also earned her first American chart hit, and it is currently on the Adult Pop Airplay chart . Cardin later performed the infectious earworm while actual confetti rained from the ceiling.

The Beaches, meanwhile, won group of the year. Accepting the award from Nova Scotia's own Anne Murray, who holds the record for most Junos ever with 25, the Toronto band dedicated their speech to the next generation of rockers. "To all the young girls watching, go start bands with your best friends!" They later closed the festivities with a rendition of their major breakthrough single "Blame Brett."

Both Cardin and The Beaches won awards at the 2024 Juno Opening Night Awards the night before (March 23) for pop album of the year and rock album of the year, respectively.

In a white fur cape, TALK had a rock star moment performing his epic single "Run Away to Mars," which went to No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart last year. The Ottawa-born artist, who's had over 400 million global streams, later took home the award for breakthrough artist of the year. In his speech, he talked about the importance of arts funding, just after Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St.-Onge announced the government would increase the Canadian Music Fund.

A number of the night's performances motioned toward the increasingly diverse and global future of Canadian music. Dressed in a spiffy white outfit with a four backup dancers in red, Aujla performed early on, playing pop hits "Admirin' You" and "Softly." Both came from his album Making Memories , which made history as the highest-charting Punjabi debut ever on the Canadian Albums chart . Ikky, who made the album with Aujla, acted as hype man on an elevated platform.

In the Billboard Punjabi Wave cover story , AP Dhillon talked about his performance at the 2023 Junos ceremony and how he lobbied to ensure majorly popular Punjabi music would have a prolonged platform at the awards. Evidently, they've kept their word.

This year's Junos also had the most Indigenous nominees in award history. Anita Landback, Tanas Sylliboy and Sarah Prosper set the stage with a land acknowledgment that intersected with a performance by Juno winner Jeremy Dutcher in Wolastoqey, who then joined in a duet with Elisapie on an Inuktitut version of Blondie's "Heart of Glass." Along with Aujla and others, it meant performances featured at least six different languages, including English and French.

The Junos have struggled with star power in recent years — Drake has boycotted the last half decade, while chart-topper Tate McRae was not in attendance to accept her two awards this year — but they have made up for it with improved representation of what makes Canadian music unique.

This year, they also paid tribute to the country's music history.

The ceremony was hosted by pop star Nelly Furtado, who opened the ceremony with a rapid-fire medley of her multiple decades of hits: "Say It Right," "Maneater," "Promiscuous," "Give It To Me," "I'm Like A Bird" — all from the 2000s and her new one with Dom Dolla, "Eat Your Man."

Kardinal Offishall inducted "our rap Prime Minister" Maestro Fresh Wes into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The hip-hop hero had the first Canadian rap record to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Let Your Backbone Slide," was the first winner of the rap album of the year at the 1991 Junos for Symphony in Effect , and is currently amidst a wave of recognition for his place in the country's music history. A pre-taped video featured contributions from this year's winner, TOBi, legacy Canadian artists like Snow and American legends like Chuck D of Public Enemy. "Now, this music we love won't ever be underestimated," he said. He later performed a medley of his hits, including "Backbone."

A special performance honoured a handful of Canadian legends who died this year. Neo-classical Quebecois artist Alexandra Streliski paid tribute to Karl Tremblay of Les Cowboys Fringants with an instrumental piano performance. Then Allison Russell, Aysanabee, William Prince, Shawnee Kish, Logan Staats and Julian Taylor all joined together for beautiful renditions of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind" and The Band's "The Weight" for the late Robbie Robertson.

And actor Elliot Page presented the humanitarian award to Tegan and Sara, stressing the importance of the Canadian Quin sisters' Tegan and Sara Foundation's important work for young queer people at a time when the rights of 2SLGBTQ+ people are under threat, including from the Alberta government . "If the world were not so hostile to 2SLGBTQ+ we would see ourselves purely as musicians," they said, adding "we love being gay. So gay."

Here’s our report on all the winners from Saturday’s Opening Night Juno Awards.

Here are the nominees in the categories that were presented on the live telecast, with winners checked.
