Enjoy the view of riding on an open-air double decker bus. Drive from Philipsburg, the Dutch capital of St. Maarten, past the Great Salt Pond and through the countryside on the way to Marigot, the French-side capital. Here, you’ll have a photo-stop with a truly European atmosphere, having the waterside, open-air markets, quaint shops, boutiques or sidewalk cafes as your backdrop.

Back on board the Double Decker, you will pass through St. Maarten’s latest infrastructure addition, the Causeway Swing Bridge, where you can spot lovely sailboats or magnificent Mega Yachts on the lagoon, depending on the time of year.

Arriving at Maho you may watch for airplanes overhead as they are landing at the Princess Juliana International airport. The journey will proceed across the south for views of Simpson Bay Lagoon where we'll stop at a local Rum Distillery for a free tasting of various flavors of rum. Your experience concludes with a tasting at the Amsterdam Cheese and Liquor store for a tasting of Old Amsterdam Gouda Cheese.

  • Debbie R 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Trooly train ride no more Oct. 5, 2022 my husband and I just did this trip. Big AL was the driver went to the Cheese store very small store but the people where great bought some cheese and gifts. Next we road around the tiny city then went to the Rusty Parrot ship had a fx tour and videos of caption Jack tour was realy cute a new business up and coming had drinks after tour and then we came out side and Big AL the trolly train driver left without us and 2 other couple and 2 children. He didn't even account for how many people where still inside. Then I came out and tripped on a dip in the cement blocks and cut my knee and hurt my ribs. The owner was so gracious to give me first aid and ice for my ribs and took us 2 back to the port in his car. The owner called the troller train place to come back and pick up the rest of the families. Big AL got back before we left in the owners car and he never acknowledge that he left us there or that I was injured. He screwed him self out of a tip. Not a very good day for us. But to leave the family with childern was beyond excepable. I can't image there fear. 😢 Read more Written October 5, 2022
  • M2755OIscottl 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Good experience, pick up was a little confusing The crew on the Trolly Train was very friendly. The process for getting picked up was a little confusing. They need to be more organized and give better instructions for where to be picked. Perhaps add some signage at the stop. The ride around town was enjoyable. They driver and tour guide were fun and joked around with us. We saw several interesting places. Mostly, they take you through the shopping district. We made a stop at the Dutch cheese shop. Great cheese selection and ice cream! Overall it was good experience. It is a good way to see some sites and not spend a lot of money. • I5266HDmichaelh 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Did not enjoy. So we did this excursion through Royal Caribbean in essence it sounded like a great idea. In reality it was extremely difficult to hear the guide on the tour even with their sound system of the sound of the bus itself. Stop one was rum distillery, basically it was a warehouse and convenient store (25 minutes). Stop two was Maho Beach which is ok but the bus parked up the street you walk down to the beach area and wait for a plane to come in or take off (20 minutes). The third stop was the carousel. This was fairly decent an indoor merry go-round and a place to use the restroom, but a drink and a snack (25 minutes). Finally it was on to the Dutch cheese store for 20 minutes or so. Now I may have the order of the 2nd and 3rd stop reversed but was disappointed nonetheless. Read more Written December 7, 2019
  • bobbeck3 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointing The commentary was not with the location and did not even work for some of the tour. The bus doesn’t have airconditioning and the ticket sellers at the stops do not appear to be doing their job, too many people paying as they get on with a ticket seller wandering around aimlessly. I’m sure the Big Bus would be better, but we didn’t travel on it. Read more Written July 23, 2019
  • marceak 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Excursion Tour while on a cruise THE WORST!! We booked this excursion through and while on a Royal Caribbean cruise. So lame! They had a pre-recorded narrative that repeated itself (literally!) AND it didn't have current information. It talked about the last big hurricane that came thru in 1995 that devastated the island. (Hello--what about Hurricane Maria that was Category 5 in October 2017- one and a half years ago!!) It also talked about"you will see this on the French side"" which we didn't get to go to since Hurricane Maria devastated the island 18 months ago. The tour had changed to just the Dutch side of St Maarten, but the change was not reflected in the trip description which promised we would tour the Dutch and the French sides of the island. Maybe that's why we stopped at a off-the -beaten-path rum factory, a ice cream/carousel place, and a cheese stop just to fill the time. The beach stop by the airport was the only worthwhile stop. Buyer beware--be sure to be first in line so you get an upper deck seat. We had to sit in the lower level behind a tinted window--not exactly open air. All in all, a very big disappointment. • Bonnie W 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointed The website description was a hoax....we didn't see any of those things...well, we did see a plane fly over head. Did NOT go to Orient Beach, did NOT go to Marigot, did NOT travel "the West Road and through several quaint island towns and fishing villages." Instead the overcrowded bus, which did not have tables as described, stayed on the Dutch side and drove us through a very poor unsightly area making stops at several locations where we were given an opportunity to purchase rum and cheese and ice cream. Not in the description. Prior to booking this trip for 16 people at a cost of $710, I chatted with a representative online who assured me the bus would go to Marigot. Disappointed is an understatement.Total ripoff!! Read more Written March 25, 2019
  • opjp 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Nice ride Our party of 4 including 2 kids enjoyed the ride on the double decker bus. We stopped at a few places including a rum factory, ice cream shop, cheese shop and Princess Juliana airport/beach. This was a nice way to see the Dutch side of the island for a few hours. Headsets on bus gave you some history about the island. Read more Written February 27, 2019
  • Mjrice1976 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Unimportant Unimportant is how I felt. I was unimportant to them as they took me to unimportant places. Nothing of interest to a tourist. They take you to a shabby small Rum Factory gift shop of one of their friends in a back alley of a warehouse district. You see nothing except some rum to buy. They take you to an ice cream stand and . . .the other stops were so non-descript I can't even recall what they were. But I did enjoy the views on the ride. Tour apparently operated by Muslims as they constant tout the benefits of Islam. Read more Written December 12, 2018
  • kevinlY1011GT 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Hard to hear the the guide The bus was new and clean. It had headphones that were cumbersome to use. Part of the tour was pre-recorded and part was live. It was hard to hear either one. We did some Rum Tasting at Toppers Rum which was good but it looked just like a warehouse in a back alley. Next stop was Maho beach near the airport. This is made famous by how close the runway is to the beach. We just kind of hung around the beach for 30 minutes watching the planes come in. We only saw one midsized plane come in and then we left. The next stop was a carousel where you could ride a merry go round and have some ice cream. Ice cream was good and there was free wifi. The last stop was a visit to a Dutch shop in Philipsburg. There was a lot of hurricane damage in the marinas. There were many half sunken boats in the harbours. I assume the tour will be better when all the hurricane damage is repaired Read more Written December 5, 2018
  • theoldbikers 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles not a photo tour, it's a ripoff We were told by Royal Carribean tour desk and the brochure that there were several stops to take photos. Instead we stopped at a rum distillery outlet store, a gellato store with a tiny carousel and a cheese shop near the pier. The only photo stop was at the airport beach where planes take off very low over your head. There was no time to shop in town as advertised except at the gellato shop. They slowed down once to take pictures, did not even stop! Read more Written December 4, 2018
  • GWBucks 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Royal Caribbean tour Nice to have a drive around the island - I guess. Goes to a Rum distillery in a warehouse area, then to the bar at the end of the runway, then to an ice cream shop and then to a cheese factory. What an utter waste of time. In the Royal Caribbean blurb they say that you can go shopping in Phillipsburg at the end of it... well you cannot. It takes much longer that’s they say... and you won’t get to the centre of town and you won’t be able to get the sea taxi back. So if you want to see Phillipsburg- and maybe do a bit of shopping- then do not touch this trip... it’s rubbish Read more Written July 17, 2018
  • carolkemp 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Worst Tour I have been on in years We purchased this tour from Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas. I have visited St. Marteen since 1999 and stayed for there at time share resorts for a week at a time. Thus, we have been all over the island and know there are many beautiful beaches. It seemed to us like this tour company takes you to their friends' shops and leaves you there for a half hour at a time. 1- Rum factory with OK rum but nothing as good as Guavaberry Rum Co. 2- An ice cream store 3-Maho Beach. It was a waste of money...since it did not go onto the French side other than showing you the border with the French flag flying. For those who have no idea what they missed...they could have felt this was a good tour. There is no interaction with the tour leader...you get a head set and listen to pre-recorded history of island...such as you could read on line on your own. There are much better tours out there.... look around. Only good I would say was that the driver and tour guide were very nice & friendly.... Read more Written June 19, 2018
  • familyfun528 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Horrible Experience- Waste of money Booked this excursion through Royal Caribbean. The guides were not personable and the trolley speaker system did not work. So basically, we just sat on a trolley and waited in traffic. Traffic congestion is out side their control but they could have tried to fix the speaker system or came into the trolley car as we waited to provide information about the island. Horrible experience, we ended up walking back to the boat for our next excursion. Read more Written April 10, 2018
  • bigbob12345 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Stay on board if this is only option This tiur was HORRIBLE!! First the tour left 20 minutes late, then the bus could only go 2 mph (yes! 2 mph) up the hill. Then the bus broke down and they didn’t have enough seats for all the riders, after we waited a while for another bus. The narration was mostly by recorded audio via earphones everyone else that ever took this tour had worn (YUCK!!!). It was boring and uneventful. I should have stayed on the ship!! • David D 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Basille Day in the rain The tour was not bad. Saw the island and learned a little. Don't go on this tour if it is a National Holiday on the island. Nothing is open. The rain came and went several times on the tour. It seemed that on this tour it just wasn't our day. Read more Written July 19, 2017
