The positive reviews are clearly fake with awful grammar, the exact same poor English used by the company in their responses. This is a scam - you give in your payment details and then they say to wait for confirmation. They then call you saying the prices have gone up and demand more payment. I have never had this in decades of booking flights - look at the lower star reviews here and they all say the exact same thing. You will be contacted demanding more payment. I am reporting this company to the relevant authorities.

The Secret to Frying Fish in a Tiny Kitchen? A 5-Pound AirHood

In my narrow Philadelphia row-home kitchen , I have a very sensitive smoke alarm — and a Chihuahua whose nemesis is said sensitive smoke alarm. The alarm goes off at a mere hint of smoke, despite the fact that my stove has an over-the-range hood. Instead of actually venting smoke outside, the hood just captures grease (sort of) and recirculates air, often leaving my white cabinets with a smear of leftover oil after, say, a marathon falafel-frying session. Not to mention that frying fish or smoking meats would leave a lingering smell on my curtains and rug for days after.

So I was intrigued when I heard about the AirHood, a portable exhaust hood you can move around your kitchen, whether you place it next to your stove or beside a cutting board of fragrant garlic. It’s billed as “The World’s First Portable Kitchen Air Cleaner” and works by using replaceable charcoal filters to clean the air it sucks up and flows back out. At $159.99, it seemed a remarkably cheap fix for simultaneously capturing smoke, protecting my cupboards from oil slicks, and putting my Chihuahua out of her misery. I wondered: Could this be the solution to my conundrum? And so I set out to test the AirHood.

When it arrived, I was charmed by its Cadmium Orange color and how surprisingly small it was — it looked like a tiny Martian on my counter. It weighs just a hair over five pounds, and the fan part is eight inches in diameter while the entire unit is 14 inches tall. The 70-inch cord gave ample length to plug it in on my kitchen cart or counter — which is where I decided to place it for the first test run: frying potato croquettes and sautéing tomatoes.

When I turned on the AirHood, it was no louder than my over-the-range hood. As I fried the croquettes — which in the past have set off my smoke alarm and left my apartment smelling like oil — I noticed that the AirHood’s suction, working together with my stove’s hood, removed any presence of smoke in my kitchen. It also whisked away the steam that was produced as the tomatoes sautéed. After the meal, there was no leftover scent in my kitchen or my apartment, and cleanup was easy: I just cleaned the AirHood’s metal filter with a sponge and dish soap (although it’s dishwasher safe, too).

Okay, so it passed the dinner-for-two test, but I wanted to know how it would work for a larger group. One weekend, I invited 45 people over for a big dinner of croquettes, seared salmon, and baked pasta made with a funky cheese, and I aimed the AirHood at my four-burner stove. I was careful to place it about 18 inches away from my gas stove (the company’s website cautions against placing it too close to flames), turned each burner on, and set the AirHood to its highest (and loudest) setting, and I got to cooking.

Two hours of intermittent frying, searing, and baking later, the AirHood was still humming and my smoke alarm remained quiet. My white cabinets were devoid of grease smears, and my kitchen — and house — smelled like delicious cooked food and not oil. There were no lingering fishy or funky cheese smells. My guests didn’t even notice the AirHood on my countertop, nor did they remark upon any extra noise it made.

So what’s the verdict? I think I love the AirHood. It’s part of my kitchen now and whenever I’m frying fish or am cooking something that produces above average smoke, I turn both it and my range hood on. I can even see myself packing it along with my knife kit to my next private-chef gig to avoid setting off someone else’s smoke alarm. And yes, my Chihuahua loves it, too.

How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Stay

If you were to ask me what’s one thing about Antigua’s Curtain Bluff resort that makes it special, I must admit this is no easy feat. It could be their two picturesque and totally private beaches, warm and inviting staff, or delicious restaurants where everything is made from local and fresh ingredients. But then, it could also be their intimate wine cellar that their sommeliers travel worldwide to source. As I think it over, all of these things are just the icing. The cake is the tradition, the memories, and the respect for the resort’s history that brings its guests back year after year.

The resort's late founder, Howard Hulford, found the 20-acre plot of land that is now Curtain Bluff while working as a private pilot for Texaco. He originally wanted to build a house on the uninhabited land but was told he’d be more likely to get a permit for a hotel since the island was heavily pursuing tourism. Curtain Bluff opened its doors in 1962, and for the rest of their lives, Howard and his wife Chelle took pride in making it a home away from home for their guests. That welcoming ethos is still felt to this day. The walls are bursting with memories as I’m given a tour of The Bluff House — Howard and Chelle’s clifftop home on the property — by resident manager Wendy Eardley. She points to a photo of the couple with Sophia Loren. “[Sophia and Michael Winner] did a movie called Firepower in the ‘70s, and the crew stayed here,” she explains. 

That’s how it is at Curtain Bluff: Every picture, piece of furniture, and room has a story that makes you feel more connected to the place. It’s no wonder that more than 65 percent of guests return, and most key staff members have worked there for years or even decades. Returning guests are greeted like long-lost friends when they arrive and encouraged to return when they leave — which they do.

The service is nothing short of spectacular, too. They’re attentive and anticipate your needs without being intrusive. “Guests come back because they like the consistency of the people that work here,” says Eardley. “[Our staff stays with us] anywhere from 20 to 40 years.” In 2023, Curtain Bluff unveiled a multi-million dollar renovation that includes a new state-of-the-art wellness center, an adults-only pool, and marble finishes to most of the suites’ bathrooms. The revamp instilled modern finishes while maintaining its effortless and classic Caribbean aesthetic.

As I sat under my cabana, watching the cotton candy-colored sunset cast over the gentle waves of the beach, I felt a calm that was hard to verbalize. In the respite of Curtain Bluff’s mostly unpopulated beach, I could quiet my thoughts in an uninterrupted zen that is all too rare. And it finally clicked — this is their special sauce.

In terms of variety, Curtain Bluff has plenty of accommodations to offer. The rooms are categorized into tiers: beachfront rooms, rooms on the bluff, and the ultra-exclusive Hulford Collection suites. A delightful perk is that all 72 of these breezy, coastal-style rooms have an unobstructed ocean view, so you certainly won’t miss out on Instagrammable sunsets no matter which one you choose (something not every resort can say.)

The beachfront rooms are perfect for couples or solo travelers who want easy access to the beach or those looking to keep their budget modest. Ground-level junior suites (which account for 40 of the 72 rooms) have patios that lead just a few steps from the sandy shores of the property. Travel just a floor higher, and you’ll find upper-level suites with similar layouts and sea-facing balconies.

If you’re up for a bit of cardio, the blufftop rooms located uphill offer more spacious options for larger groups and families with kids six and older; you’ll find one and two-bedroom suites complete with garden patios and a breakfast nook that makes this idyllic Caribbean flat feel a bit more like home. For your most luxurious option, the Hulford Collection suites offer the most space and private amenities, like a plunge pool on your terrace and open living rooms that feel more apartment-like. The rooms intentionally lack televisions, and you’ll hardly miss them. But if you’re eager to catch the game or the news, there’s a TV room behind reception.

Our Grace Bay suite (part of the Hulford Collection) made quite a first impression. The open-air entrance of the suite leads you directly into a coastal-style living room, which connects to the Morris Bay suite next door. Straight ahead, a glass sliding door leads to a massive veranda with a plunge pool — which we most enjoyed for late-night swims after the resort's pools closed for the evening.

The Grace Bay bedroom had plenty of square footage, closet space, and overall comfort. But the newly renovated bathroom, with its rainforest shower and large marble soaking tub, was the cherry on top. Each night, we fell asleep to the lush sounds of the waves gently crashing against the shores and awakened to the golden island sunset peeking in through our floor-to-ceiling windows. And in these moments, we were reminded all over again what true peace feels like.

Curtain Bluff adopts a “less is more” philosophy regarding its food and drink offerings, yet somehow managed to keep surprising us with delectable dishes that made each meal something to look forward to. The resort has just two restaurants: Tamarind — the central restaurant offering locally sourced and house-made Caribbean-influenced eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner — and Sea Grape, an open-air concept that serves lunch and Italian-Antiguan fare on select nights of the week. Dishes like Sea Grape’s potato and leek soup and Tamarind’s plum crumble dessert were undeniable home runs for us.

For drinks, you’d be remiss not to visit Curtain Bluff’s coveted wine cellar, where you’ll find unique, globally sourced vintages dating back to the ‘70s. The cellars’ keen and friendly sommeliers will walk you through a curated wine tasting with food pairings to heighten the experience. If you want higher proof, head to the main bar adjacent to Tamarind and order your favorite cocktail. If you care to roll up your sleeves and add some new tricks to your culinary arsenal, book a cooking class with head chef Christophe Blatz. 

One thing you won’t be at Curtain Bluff is bored.

For starters, the property is situated on a rocky peninsula and sandwiched between two beaches: one with a stronger surf and one that is calmer and ideal for relaxing. The latter beach is where you can go to set up shop at one of the cabanas and sip on an icy drink or two, or you can hitch a five-minute boat ride to Cade’s Reef for snorkeling. You can also try waterskiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, or windsurfing, and Hobie Cat rentals are available.

You also find two pools: a family-friendly one and a newly built adults-only option in the wellness area. There are also many land-based options to get your body moving: tennis, squash, bocce, shuffleboard, basketball, and guided yoga and pilates classes.

Because Curtain Bluff offers an assortment of sports compounds, water activities, and relaxing hideouts, guests can enjoy the amenities in a way that feels leisurely and undisturbed.

From breakfast, you’ll see tables of guests disperse to explore their respective interests: couples dressed in athletic wear will head to one of the five tennis courts for morning lessons, families with children will head to the pool, and other groups will head to the spa for a mid-afternoon massage.

There’s so much to do that you’ll feel recharged and exhilarated without ever stepping off the resort. Best of all, there’s no upcharge. Most of these activities are included in the price of your stay.

Curtain Bluff is located on Old Road, on the island's southern end, and about a 30-minute ride from V.C. Bird International Airport. It is a secluded area where you won’t find any remnants of party-goers — precisely why this property is so beloved by its guests. What it does have are ultra-scenic views of neighboring islands. If you’re on the balcony of the spa, for instance, you can see clear views of St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, and Redonda. The concierge will happily arrange a cab if you want to venture off-property.

If you want to go full-on DND mode, you’ll feel at peace in Curtain Bluff’s two-story waterfront spa, next to the resort’s newly updated wellness area. The spa offers a menu of treatments like massages and body scrubs. After your service, you can retreat to the upper balcony to hydrate with an ice-cold drink and then dip in its cliffside jacuzzi. Come back to your senses while taking in the wondrous views.

Accessibility 

Besides the ground-level rooms, most other areas or not accessible — even the second and third-floor suites, as well as the bluff rooms and Hulford suites, are not elevator accessible and would not be ideal for every guest. According to Curtain Bluff, guests with mobility issues would be most comfortable in their ground-floor deluxe rooms or junior suites.

Though the property’s rates are quite high compared to most other resorts on the island, consider traveling during the off-season (April-July) to find a better deal. Junior suites, generally around $2,000 per night during peak season, can drop to $1,200.

If you can stay longer, Curtain Bluff offers length of stay discounts (excluding high season periods like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter), where you can get 25 percent off for a week stay and 30 percent off for a 10-day or longer stay. Curtain Bluff usually closes from mid-July through late October each year.

Pain pain pain, you think you bought a ticket and finally its a standby ticket and you pay much higher than any other website don’t do deal with them, you’ll regret your move. They try to charge you more to close the deal and still you think you have your ticket and they ask for positive feedback before sending them. You get your itinerary but no tickets. To be honest, when I first heard Conan O'Brien was ending his TV talk show in 2021, I assumed news that he might turn to variety shows and online programs to continue his career was some combination of face-saving and wishful thinking.

But after watching the four episodes of his new Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , it's now obvious — even to a thickheaded critic like me — that leaving late night TV really was liberating for O'Brien. He's leveraged his unique sensibility into several different podcasts, a deal with Sirius XM , specials featuring other stand-up comics and now this travel series for Max — which resembles jokey specials he did for cable channel TBS back in the day.

And as the late night TV genre crumbles under sagging viewership and the decline of traditional media, O'Brien's renaissance also provides an example for the future — where fertile comedy minds and talented performers can spread their work over a much larger canvas.

O'Brien already made a splash recently with his brilliantly maniacal appearance on the interview-while-eating-hot-wings show Hot Ones , slobbering over hot sauces while claiming, as he was checked over by a fake doctor, that "I'm fine! I'm perfectly f*****g fine!"

This is the place where O'Brien shines — he's called it "this strange phantom intersection between smart and stupid" — and it's on full, freakish, super silly display in every episode of Conan O'Brien Must Go .

The conceit of the show is pretty simple. O'Brien heads overseas to visit average folks in Norway, Argentina, Thailand and Ireland who had once Zoomed in to speak with him on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan . Sometimes the visits seem like a surprise — he catches one aspiring Norwegian rapper in shorts and Crocs after popping up on his doorstep — and others seem a bit more planned, including his visit to a radio show with about four listeners in Buenos Aires.

Each episode begins with a solemn monologue which sounds like it is delivered by the film world's most eccentric voice, German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog (he's not credited in the show and when asked, a publicist at Max shared a quote from O'Brien: "I can neither confirm nor deny the voice in question.")

The torturous accent by "Herzog" makes every line sound absurdly hilarious, describing O'Brien as "the defiler ... with dull, tiny eyes ... the eyes of a crudely painted doll ... he scavenges in distant lands, uninvited, fueled by a bottomless hunger for recognition and the occasional selfie."

Now that's smart. And oh so stupid.

Fans of O'Brien's Conan Without Borders specials on TBS already know what his style is when he tackles a travel show — throwing himself into outrageous reactions and situations while working his quirky brand of improvised conversations with hapless bystanders.

In the Max series Conan O'Brien Must Go , that includes O'Brien offering screechy vocals onstage during a performance of a Norwegian emo/rap band. Or asking provocative questions of a couple therapist/sex expert. Or getting beat up in a "fight" with a 10-year-old boy in a bar.

It's all an excuse for O'Brien to unleash his energetic wit, taste for silly absurdity and skill at drawing laughs from sympathetic — if often befuddled — strangers. Whether you enjoy this special will depend on how you feel about O'Brien's style, which can feel a bit like the world's best class clown doing everything possible to make you crack a smile.

But what amazes in a larger sense is how O'Brien has turned his sensibility into a comedy brand to fuel work on many different platforms. And, at age 60, with more than 30 years as a comedy star, he's been released from the shackles of any genre to shine wherever he chooses — whether it's an episode of Hot Ones or a streaming service which sometimes looks like a collision between True Detective and 90 Day Fiancé .

Leaving late night TV as late night left him

I'm old enough that I started covering TV not long after O'Brien made his first move from the shadows of life as a comedy writer – he worked on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons — to succeed David Letterman in 1993 as host of NBC's show Late Night (now hosted by Seth Meyers). Back then, NBC gave O'Brien years to figure out the show, honing his smartly serious comedy in a way that would inspire then-teenage fans like Seth Rogen and Bill Hader .

O'Brien left NBC after a disastrous deal where the network tried to make him host of its venerated late night program The Tonight Show and also keep its former host Jay Leno at the network. He moved to a late night show on TBS in 2010, but even then, there was a sense that his creativity was a bit hemmed in by the format.

Now, with a podcast and digital media company worth many millions and growing status as a TV comedy legend still willing to do almost anything for a laugh, O'Brien is proving there is a successful life beyond late night.

Particularly, if you have the talent to play the fool while leaving little doubt you're also the smartest person in the room.

Dr Hilary Cass says she is more upset and frustrated about the falsehoods being peddled about her research than the abuse directed at her, because it is "putting children at risk".

The paediatrician behind a landmark report into transgender treatment of children has criticised the "disinformation" about her findings as she revealed she avoids travelling on public transport over security fears.

Dr Hilary Cass has said the attacks on her study were "inaccurate" and "unforgivable" as it put young people "at risk".

The recently-published Cass Review found that there was "remarkably weak evidence" to support gender treatments for children.

The "toxicity of the debate" was also not helping, with people afraid of discussing transgender issues openly, she said.

The research was commissioned by NHS England four years ago after a steep rise in the numbers seeking help for gender issues.

Dr Cass told The Times newspaper: "I have been really frustrated by the criticisms, because it is straight disinformation. It is completely inaccurate.

"It started the day before the report came out when an influencer posted a picture of a list of papers that were apparently rejected because they were not randomised control trials.

"That list has absolutely nothing to do with either our report or any of the papers."

She added: "If you deliberately try to undermine a report that has looked at the evidence of children's healthcare, then that's unforgivable. You are putting children at risk by doing that."

She also hit out at Labour MP Dawn Butler, who questioned Health Secretary Victoria Atkins during a House of Commons debate on Monday about why "over 100 studies have not been in this Cass report".

Dr Cass expressed dismay at the Brent Central MP making assertions that were "completely wrong".

She said researchers had examined every research paper, but not all met the threshold standard for inclusion.

The total number of datasets deemed to be of high or medium-quality was 60 out of 103.

The Cass report made more than 32 recommendations, including that gender care operates "to the same standards" as other children's health services.

The review found the entire field of medicine aimed at enabling children to change gender had been "built on shaky foundations", with not enough evidence to support prescribing hormones to under-18s to pause puberty or to transition to the opposite sex.

Last month, NHS England confirmed children would no longer be prescribed puberty blockers outside of research trials.

It also emerged adult gender clinics had refused to take part in the review, which was described as "hugely disappointing" by Dr Cass.

'Vile emails'

Regarding the online abuse she has received, the physician said: "There are some pretty vile emails coming in at the moment.

"Most of which my team is protecting me from, so I'm not getting to see them."

She added: "What dismays me is just how childish the debate can become.

"If I don't agree with somebody then I'm called transphobic or a TERF [trans-exclusionary radical feminist]."

'Misinformation makes me seethe'

But asked if the vitriol had affected her, Dr Cass, the former president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said: "No... it's personal, but these people don't know me.

"I'm much, much more upset and frustrated about all this disinformation than I am about the abuse.

"The thing that makes me seethe is the misinformation."

She added: "I'm not going on public transport at the moment, following security advice, which is inconvenient."

NHS England has since announced a second Cass Review-style appraisal of adult gender clinics.

But Dr Cass confirmed to The Times she will not take part in that report.

She said: "You heard it right here - I am not going to do the adult gender clinic review."
