A weekend to remember for sure

A weekend to remember for sure! I travelled solo and that didn’t put me off as this was something I’ve always wanted to do. Kai (Our FRT leader) and the lads who travelled from Wales were very good to me and had a good laugh. Hotels were nice, some lively bars we visited as well in good spots. As for the football Schalke fans were very impressive and definitely worth the experience. Psv we had great seats and a entertaining match but atmosphere wasn’t anywhere close to what we saw at Schalke. Glad to have experienced football in a different perspective with 3 countries and 2 matches and all the beers in between!

Fully Avoid This Company

Simply one of the worst holidays I have ever been on. This company change things last minute, falsely advertise what they can provide and make awful excuses which sound like blatant lies. The organisation and communication from the company to the customers on the trip is completely inadequate. The only positive from the trip was the 5-6 hours in Dortmund, everything else was a waste of time. No electronics in the “luxury travel”, three star hotels instead of the luxury four star hotels and putting publicly free events such as carnivals over actual football matches. Avoid this at all costs, and if you have already paid your money to this sham of a company, good luck!

WORTH EVERY PENNY

Unbelievable trip from start to finish. Kai and his team were on hand to ensure we made the most of every second and penny spent. Having Lee Sharpe on the trip was an added and unexpected bonus too 🙌🏻 It really is the ultimate lads trip which certainly all our group would recommend to anyone

Trust the process and you won’t be disappointed

Just come back from Dortmund Vs RB Leipzig and FC Twente Vs Herneven matches and we had an absolute blast! Yes there was some complications with the game day changing and we ended up watching FC Twente instead of Ajax, but still an entertaining 3-3 draw! Brett was a friendly guide and supported our driver who was on his 1st trip! We had ex Man Utd player Lee Martin who came on our bus and was great value with his stories (although don’t trust him at football legends Top Trumps 😉. The hotels were very nice and definitely the 4 star quality advertised. There were no PlayStations on the bus but that didn’t detract from the laughs and jokes with mates! The communication prior was a little last minute and made me slightly nervous but it all worked out positively! The atmosphere at the games was very special and if you are football fans I would definitely book a trip away!

Absolute scam artist

Absolute scam artist! We were due to go on a trip at the end of May but received an email yesterday suggesting we cancel the trip and ask for a refund as the trip would likely be cancelled. It is an absolute disgrace that this refund will be made in instalments and not in full! That is if we receive a refund at all!! Not to mention the £150+ per person we have paid for train travel and hotels both before and after the trip which we have been told by the providers would not be refunded to us either. This company has taken peoples hard earned cash with no intention of running trips and has instead used the money to keep the company afloat for a further few months. Absolutely shameful and disgraceful!!

Amazing Experience

Highly recommend FRT, amazing experience & company. Guide was very good & gave us all plenty of information regarding the places we visited (including the matches & nights out). Great seats whites attending the matches & all the hotels were top quality. Can’t wait to book again. 10/10.

Top Footy Road Trip

10 of us on the trip we had a great laugh. It was a fantastic experience and were impressed with the football tickets - some of which were in the Nordkurve for the Schalke game. Kai has lots of contacts and tried his hardest to get us the best tickets. Well organised on each of the days and not too hurried. Only disappointment was bus entertainment but we made up for this with the singing and beers flowing. Great to have Lee Martin accompany us. Would recommend and definitely go again.

FRT WFB Trip

Delivered everything promised, great cities, travel, hotels and football. Would highly recommend booking with this company, and you get looked after really well by Craig (Guide). We were lucky to have Marek driving us on an air conditioned van, plenty of beer, PS4 and FIFA 22 to help with the travel. All hotels were of a good standard, clean and good locations (Amsterdam was a little further out). Being part of the Yellow Wall at Borussia Dortmund is an experience not to be missed, and it will be hard to beat. Fortuna was a good, and smaller experience, but still enjoyable.

Road trip your not forget

A really good experience and a cracking road trip. Was organised well and a few issues occurred but Craig the Guide dealt with very well. It’s an experience I will never forget and will be returning for another great road trip. Dortmund ground was insane and been in the Yellow Wall was electric. Thank you for amazing time. There was ex footballers with us and told a few story’s, really nice having them share life as a pro footballer, they were really good sports and The accommodation for each place was amazing. Recommend

Football Road Trip

Great weekend on the football road trip. 6-1 watching Dortmund and experiencing the yellow wall. Great nights out in Brussels, Düsseldorf and Cologne. Craig has been an awesome guide and Chris have been a very good driver. Would definitely recommend and come on another one.

Kept entertained by our guide Ben ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ clearly knew what he was doing from start to finish, made it everywhere on time due to our driver Chris ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ would definitely highly recommen these trips you will not be disappointed. Many laughs and good nights out. Worth every penny!!

Amazing trip I would highly recommend to anybody who loves football beers and a good laugh. Ste was a brilliant host and on top of everything from minute one a true legend! Very organised efficient company providing a once in a lifetime experience for which I am still recovering now 😂

Jammy's Crew

Communication leading up to the trip was extremely poor. When spending nearly 5k for 6 of us to go and not hear anything until 5 days before we leave is not the way to run a business. However, once we stepped foot on the bus and were introduced to JP (Jammy) the trip became one to remember. The Borrusia Dortmund game was by far the highlight of the trip. The atmosphere was electric and the best I've ever been too. Rightfully told by Jammy to get into the yellow wall early as it fills up an hour before kick off. Amsterdam was a great night out which we shared together as a group. Dusseldorf and Brussels we were left to our own devices which was fine but the hotels were a taxi fare away from the main drinking spots. A throughly enjoyable trip consisting of a lot of banter. Met some great people on the bus too!

Good trip with good people

Craig, Craig he’s our man… Great bunch of tour guides, drivers were excellent. We enjoyed the trip and met some super people on the bus. I’d recommend flying into first location and flying back, book nights out/tables in bars/clubs in advance to avoid disappointment. But overall the package was good.

Absolutely class stag

Absolutely class went for my brothers stag and had a brilliant time, owner was with us give us all tickets in the yellow wall on the same block, it was sick. He made sure we All had a good time and even came out with us and got Lee sharp on the trip as well top bloke, top time, top trip would recommend 👍

Date of experience : August 25, 2022

Would highly recommend

Would highly recommend! The hotels were a lot better than we expected considering the cheap price of the trip as a whole. Our guide Marc was great and helped with any queries regarding the best Bars and clubs to visit in each country and the atmosphere in all the matches were an unbelievable experience to witness first hand. Honestly couldn’t recommend these guys enough!

Terrible Communication

10 of us are due to attend a planned trip on the 26th of May. This trip was booked last year and has been in the works for a while now. We’ve had no communication from this company for the past few months and anytime we try to get in contact we receive no response. From all of the other reviews I’ve read it seems they’re ripping people off and taking everyone’s money with no remorse. It’s absolutely shocking considering the amount of money we all paid to go on this trip and all we want now is our money back!

Toddys 40th

Great trip... well planned, superbly executed, and professionally led. Every hotel was excellent, the Guide was well versed and experienced in the cities visited, and the tickets in the grounds were first class. Booked to go again, and if the second trip is anything like the first, there'll definitely be another!

Experience not to be missed

Great business idea done the trip twice now and by far the second trip was better than the first our tour guide Jack was an absolute champ 10/10 couldn’t fault him one bit. Also a our driver was amazing let the lads really enjoy the bus journeys. Respect to the guys behind the scenes managing to get us all on this trip & in the yellow wall with covid restrictions changing on a monthly basis. Took in Dortmund vs Leipzig on the Saturday in the middle of the yellow wall definitely an experience of a lifetime has to be on any football fans bucket list. On the Sunday we took in Gladbach vs Mainz great to see Mainz ultras sing from start to finish Germans definitely love their football. One last thing if I book again I hope to get Jack as our tour guide again absolute legend of a guy! Mon the Wolves #tigerisourleader

First class!!

We had an absolutely brilliant time. Hard to fault it. Our guide Craig was top notch!! Always accommodating and always on hand to point us in the right direction for good spots on the nights out. Bus journeys are what you make of them. If everyone is up for the craic, then they are awesome, which luckily enough we had. Dortmund was first class and the yellow wall certainly doesn’t disappoint. Would thoroughly recommend for a lads weekend away, just need a week to recover!! Thanks again to Craig, much appreciated mate. Cheers

An amazing experience!

Amazing trip from start to finish! The yellow wall in Dortmund is an experience like no other, a great time in Dusseldorf and then Amsterdam to finish off a great football trip. Our guide was excellent and the coach was fantastic. If you are a football fan this experience is a must!

100% recommended a lads trip with FRT

Wow what an experience the trip was. From the minute we got on the bus until we arrived back in the UK the whole experience was unreal. The Dortmund game/yellow wall was a fantastic experience and one I would recommend to anyone considering a trip with FRT. Kai (MD) of FRT was a true gentleman, he couldn't do enough for us the whole trip. A couple of hiccups but all outside of FRT control but the steps taken to resolve it were 2nd to none. The addition of an ex pro footballer just added to the whole experience. Sharpey was a true gentleman, he got involved and couldn't be more accommodating to the group. Charlie Chester was again a fantastic addition to the weekend and a top bloke. Shout out to Chris (driver) who made the entire trip effortless. An amazing trip with friends and a good chance to meet sole top blokes. Thanks Kai and the entire team at FRT for an amazing trip.

Well organised with knowledgeable guides who have clearly done the trip and ironed out any creases. Tickets all ready before the games and without hassle. Hotels are all Premier Inn standard (clean and comfortable). Buses are clean but a tiny bit small for the bigger members of the group. 4.8/5

Brilliant all round service from FRT from start to finish on our last trip, we had our own mini-bus with 15 of us on it and the experience was one i’ll never forget. The same 15 of us have booked to go on one again next season and can’t wait for the fixtures to be announced so that we can plan our trip. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ashden

Thank you for your kind review. We have been striving to perfect our business model with a compete overhaul and we are delighted that you enjoyed the experience.

I booked with this company because of all the great reviews they have on Facebook and I have to say, the trip blew me and my stag party away. Amazing hotels all the way through, really fun and comfortable bus with FIFA and free beers and a great guide! The match tickets were Tue best in the stadium too. Highly recommend FRT. Especially for a stag group like ours. Definitely rebooking now they have started selling trips from the UK again.

Best trip I've ever been on. Amazing hotels and the bus journeys were really top class. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly (Although bad at FIFA haha) and all th group had a great time. Wouldnt think twice about rebooking, regardless of the handful of bad reviews. They have so many greta reviews on Facebook and I can see why. 10/10 FRT!!!

Went with the lads for my stag do

Went with the lads for my stag do. Pulled out all the stops and had the best time in Brussels, Düsseldorf and Amsterdam. The yellow wall was an experience of a lifetime and getting to spend my stag do with Lee Sharp was top. Kai is a top bloke and really knows what the lads want. All the hotels were perfect, what little time we spent in them. Our game got moved on the Sunday for AZ Alkmaar but Kai sorted the lads out with beers and we had a brilliant time round Amsterdam instead. Travelling on the coaches seemed daunting at first with the amount of time we were set to spend on them but regular stop offs and plenty of beers and good company made the trip fly past. All in all, a brilliant time spent with the lads. Cheers!

Perfect weekend

Perfect weekend. Me and a friend travelled from Birmingham for this trip and it was fantastic! Travelling through Belgium, Germany and Holland spending the last night in Amsterdam. Being part of the yellow wall at Dortmund was amazing and we were more than well looked after by guide Craig and FRT owner Kai. This trip was worth every penny and we plan to book again for another road trip. The aspect of the trip we were dreading before hand was the travelling on the bus, but with guests Wes Brown and Lee Martin on board sharing stories from their time in football as well as complimentary beers and music playing it was actually really enjoyable and the time flew. Thanks again to everyone at FRT especially Craig and Kai who were really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us to make sure our experience was memorable and enjoyable. Watching 2 games in 4 days, having nights out in Brussels, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam in one trip was unbelievable. We will be seeing you again soon, I hope!

What a great few days.

What a great few days. Buzzing is an understatement. After speaking personally and receiving videos from CEO Kai Lewis of Football Road Trips and Champions League winner Wes Brown. Kai had great pleasure in letting my son now for his 21st birthday surprise, that in February he and a group of us will be going to. Dortmund v Hertha Berlin and Ajax v Sparta Rotterdam. Everyone in the group can not wait now. Even though we haven’t been on the trip yet, I would recommend to any one. Not just football fans to at least have a look at Football Road Trips. This company believe in making dreams come true and they have definitely made a dream come true for my son. So take 5 minutes of your time to have a look at there Facebook page, you won’t be disappointed. Bring it on in February ⚽️🍻⚽️🍻 🇧🇪 🇩🇪 🇳🇱

Couldn’t of ask for a better experience everything we asked for and more. 100% would recommend and would come back again! Games we went to was amazing 6-1 in the Dortmund game. The tickets in the yellow wall was insane, what a day. Massive shout out to Chris the driver, what a boy! Thanks for an amazing trip

Half way through our trip and its great Craig is our guide and he is a top lad!! Dortmund was excellent, proper crazy atmosphere looking g forward to Amsterdam.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! This company is an absolute joke and a complete scam artist. Where do I start? Took all our money last year ready for a trip Friday 21st April….on the day before they cancelled it after a complete lack of communication throughout after they had all of our money. We have been promised a refund for the last 2 weeks and wake up today (the day of the refund) to an email telling me they can now only offer a monthly payment plan. Yet again a complete lie and another way to drag out not paying us back the money. Absolute disgrace of a company and please please please avoid them at all costs as you will only get mucked about constantly with no communication at all. Update - they have tried to flag my review to get rid of it. Trying to cover there tracks. Absolute joke of a company

Best stag weekend possible

Went on a stag last year and all the lads had one of the best weekends of our lives! Kai, Jamie and everyone at footy road trips, made it an incredible stag do for my best mate. Everyone guys went out their way to make it the best possible trip. Amazing from start to finish. Sun came out all weekend and it was all well planned and organised. Games were great including tickets in the yellow walls. Just incredible!

Brutal experience, shocking communication and left disappointed.

I booked a trip in 2021 through Football Road Trips Ltd for weekend away to a couple football games in particular dortmund and then at Ajax. We were told less than 2 weeks ago they had to change the Ajax game to FC twente (which was fine and agreed) we had flights and extra costs paid to get to London too (our meeting point) less than 4 days before going!! 4 days!! They cancelled the whole thing due to 'spiralling costs' with no proper explanation or what would happen next. Leaving us in limbo! Luckily we organised our own trip but with no refund in hand wasn't great! Then low and behold see they still went ahead with the trip! Looking at reviews it looks like we avoided any further disasters but has taken until now (after lots of emails and messages - with a complete lack of sufficient and timely response) to get our refund! But only because they had 'secured further investment' why not just refund me the money we paid in the first place!! I would totally avoid booking this place and organise it yourself and save the hassle. We've lost out over £400 on this with no form of an apology and a suggestion to claim through travel insurance. I'm sure you'd have had some form of a good time if it went ahead but I seriously question their organisational and communication abilities to run this.

Joke of a company

Joke of a company, my reviews and I'm sure others keep being removed. The guy who runs this company needs to be jailed for fraud. He must have hundreds of thousands ££ of peoples money. Disgusting

So we made our way to London to not…

So we made our way to London to not waste a flight and hotel we'd paid for, at the cost of £200 or so per head. No response to the email from Tuesday stating there would 100% be an answer by Wednesday. Today, around 3pm less than 24 hours before were due to go on the trip we receive an email about how the company has been saved, we can't run the trip now however as too short notice bla bla, not enough buses but we can offer 70% refund and a 40% discount on any package NEXT season (so after 7 months of waiting to get cancelled whilst in London with hours notice do they really think given our experience we'd hand over money again or wait?!) Also offered to put a trip on in 2 weeks - yeah cause we can just afford to sort accommodation, book time off and travel at such short notice. We took the 70% refund reluctantly as we have now booked to go to Prague for the weekend from London to salvage the weekend, but only on the basis we got the refund today - which we did but only after an exchange of words where we were branded unfair for being angry 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Laughable. Save your money and do the trip yourselves! Probably get it cheaper all round anyway if you do it that way and without the high blood pressure, shocking customer service and stress.

Football, beer and friendship

This trip has been one of the best I have ever been on. I booked the trip just coming out of lockdown so to finally go on the trip was such a relief. Craig our guide has been phenomenal. He has worked so hard to ensure everyone in our group is having a good time. Watching Dortmund play on the yellow wall was worth the price alone! Had a great night out in Dusseldorf and an even better one in Amsterdam! Marek our driver has been a star too and the other lads on our coach have been great. Myself and my 18 year old son have felt part of the group from the get go. If you love football, beer and making new friends this is a perfect trip for you.

Bus 1 (Dortmund & Fortuna Sittard)

What an exceptional trip this was! Three beautiful countries, lots of football, alcohol, fun and banter with my friends, which was facilitated (and encouraged! 😊) by the exceptional Craig (our guide) and his team. This trip really was brilliantly planned and executed with military precision! Huge shoutout to Craig for fixing me up at the Dortmund game with a spare ticket after I let the side down by losing mine! As soon as I’d told Craig what had occurred, he pulled out all the stops to make sure I wasn’t left behind – and for that I’m hugely grateful. Not only that Craig was always available and nothing was any trouble. Proper good lad which helped make this trip what it was. Also a shoutout for our driver Chris! We genuinely struck lucky having Chris as our driver. Not only did he get us where we needed to be on time with no issues, he was extremely amenable and accommodated all our requests (the sensible ones!) with a smile. What a trip and what a team! Cannot recommend Football Road Trips enough!

Boys on Tour

The trip on the whole was very enjoyable, but there were a few areas that could be better. Jack, our tour guide was great, although he was new, he kept everything ticking over and even got involved in the evenings which was good. Our driver was good, very accommodating, but maybe needs to be a little less harsh when braking. Few of things could be improved; - don’t state unlimited drinks and then put a limit on people - don’t state that the buses are equipped with a PS5 and then put in a PS4 with faulty controllers - hotels were quite a way out. In Amsterdam our trips to the city centre cost on average €40 each way. I understand that’s to help keep costs down, but maybe just a heads up to help people budget On the whole, it was a fantastic experience, but just needs a bit more clarity. I hope if you go on this trip, you get Jack, he’s a good lad and certainly added to the group. Would recommend overall.

Been on 3 trips with these guys now, absolutely amazing. Its such an experience each and every time! Can't wait for a 4th after they get back up and running after Covid-19. Hard to explain how well they have dealt with it and tried to make sure everyone is happy. Hopefully see you in the summer!

I’d give it no stars if I could!

I’d give it no stars if I could! Couldn’t be more helpful when you was booking and paying them money then went all quiet! Spoke to the managing director a few weeks before and told me the Ajax tickets had to be sent back and was promised another game to be told on the coach we were going on a museum tour! Judging by the other reviews it’s not the 1st time they have cancelled Ajax so I’m guessing they never have them in the 1st place! Like someone else mentioned they are making interest off people’s money. I paid 200 odd more than some on my bus as well which isn’t right! Not to mention the tour guide still hasn’t been paid and the buses have no PlayStation and we run out of beer! Absolute disgrace! Avoid at all costs!!

We regret that you had issues on your trip. We have taken many groups to Ajax as can be seen on the photos and videos on our page. Unfortunately, Ajax told us very late on that the match had been deemed a "risk match" and therefore we would not get access to tickets. This is a very rare thing to happen to us but it can happen with Ajax. We have since found a way around this. The tour guide was at fault for the fact there was no PS4 on your bus, as he had been sent money to replace a broken one and failed to buy one. He was also sent more than enough money to buy beers and didn't do it. He was subsequently fired and not paid in full (but was paid partly, according to his legal contract with us) as a result of his incompetence which caused your bus to have issues. We now have much better, accredited guides in place.

Awful trip if I'm honest paid for 2…

Awful trip if I'm honest paid for 2 games Dortmund and ajax we got in the Dortmund game after about 2 hours of searching for another guide that had the tickets . The ajax game they cancelled on us and offered a museum tour instead !!!!! 1 morning the guide didn't show up at the pick up point so after a hour we had to search for him . He was fast asleep in his hotel room . The luxury coach with TV's and playstation on had none of it on !! Dont book with theses !! Think they only do Asia trips now hopefully this will be seen over there .

We regret that your experience, during the time the company changed business models was unsatisfactory. We have hundreds of reviews that show who we really are as a business and it is regrettable that we didn't meet our high standards during this time. We had a complete business model shift as bookings dropped significantly with the Brexit debacle amongst other reasons. We have since completed many 5 star rated trips from all over the world and we can assure you that after our turbulent period in mid 2019, we are now back at our best. The guide on your trip was since sacked by the company for his performance on your trip.

Seriously, avoid this company

Booked with them to go away at the end of March. They cancelled the trip a week before because they "couldn't get tickets to the Ajax game". You really couldn't make it up, a football road trip that can't get football tickets. When I first booked with them they were really friendly and couldn't be more responsive. A different matter when things started to go wrong. They don't respond to emails, refuse to call you back and kept hold of the money we'd paid for over 5 weeks. Funnily enough the money was paid back on the day I served the company with a Statutory Demand. I'm guessing they don't want to have their business wound up. The chap who ownes the business clearly spends all of the incoming money on himself and neglects to invest in the business, choosing to gal avant around the world on other peoples hard earned money which he's conning them out of. I honestly wouldn't go within a mile of this "business" ever again. Absolute bunch of clowns from top to bottom.

Went on a trip in April with FRT. What an AMAZING experience! 4 days of great fun, with really top end hotels and a really comfy bus. The best bit though was the yellow wall. FRT got us into the wall and MY GOD it was incredible. Shame they don't seem to sell to the UK anymore as they are based in Asia now, otherwise we would book on again. Thanks Football Road Trips!! 🙂

Worst customer service I have ever in countered. Booked to go away for my 30th only for it to be cancelled 2 weeks before it was due to leave. Very responsive when taking booking and payment but full of lies and rather rude after cancelling trip.do no awnsers calls or emails after cancelling trip.blocked from there facebook page for questioning why my refund wasn't giving in line with there T&C and for stating legal action would be taken. I managed to find and get in contact with other groups from the same trip to find they have been telling us all contradicting stories to why the trip was cancelled. Was promised a full refund within 2weeks so I could book something else. More lies. Waited there 60days as stated in there T&C (trading standards confirmed is ILLEGAL to hold a refund such length of time) still no refund. Only received my refund after going to Manchester United who they are affiliated with to share my customer experience. Surprise surprise next day refund was in my account on day 69. If they don't accept credit card don't book. You have no protection or guarantee over funds paid.

Had a brilliant trip, guide Craig was knowledgeable and couldn't do enough for you. Would absolutely recommend & will be booking again.

As a snap shot: Quality trip which we all enjoyed and would recommend to anyone that loves football and enjoys nights out in different city’s. Jack our tour guide was excellent. For his 1st trip he had everything in hand for the football and the nights out. Plus worked with the driver to make sure we got to where we needed to be in good time and the stops when needed. On our bus we had the 11 of us and 4 Scottish lads. Absolutely made the trip better, we had a right crack back and forth all trip. The drive back after the Dortmund game was absolutely unreal. Tunes pumping and all getting up for the night ahead. Then all out into Düsseldorf #Tiggerisourleader The games themselves were unreal. Yellow wall is an experience every football fan should get to experience. Before and after game is great too. Gladbach was never going to top the yellow wall. But it certainly was still top class. The fan park side before the game was great. Arrived early and had some beers+food with the 1000s of fans already there. 10/10

Great weekend for 50th

Booked this trip many months ago to celebrate 50th birthday. Communications pre-trip were not the greatest but as soon as Ally our guide made contact it was perfect thereafter. Great bunch of people on our minibus which made the travelling enjoyable. First night in Brussels, Ally our guide took us around the bars. Next day Dortmund, wow, what an experience! Never seen so much beer drunk before a game seemed like everyone around you had a bottle or can in their hand. 81500 at the game and non stop singing from both sets of fans. To be able to experience being in the yellow wall was amazing and what an atmosphere. Ally our quide knew exactly where to get a spot at the back of the stand. We went into Dusseldorf on the night and never seen so many bars and clubs in one area. The hotel we stayed in was brand new and had a 24 hour bar. We managed to have a good chat with Keith Gillespie who was on our trip as well. Early start next day for FC Twente v Cambuur as it was a 12.15 ko but although the atmosphere was good it was never going to match that at Dortmund but it was still lively. Got in Amsterdam early and Ally then took us around the Dam and into bars and down the red light district. Big shout out to Ally for making the weekend perfect and getting us to hotels, bars, and the grounds before the other minibuses had arrived.

Not happy booked this in 2020 and got postponed due to Covid so fair enough, but then to cancel the trip on us a week before we go. We had already made travel arrangements to London and accommodation plans so lost money on that as well. Not great

Do not book with this company

Absolutely disgraceful company who only want to know you when they are taking your money. We were booked to go on a trip in March. This was cancelled due to 'rail strikes', yes rail strikes effect a road trip! Fast forward to after the weekend and a review appears about how great the weekend trip was, the one we were told was cancelled! Communication is shocking and expect all attempts of contact to be ignored. Offered a 70% refund and 40% off a trip next season which is unacceptable so after various phone calls and emails they were offered a full refund. This was 4 weeks ago, you guessed it no refund has been forthcoming and all contact is being ignored. We have since been told the trip was cancelled for us as we paid a discounted rate!! DO NOT PAY A PENNY TO THIS COMPANY!!!

Footy road trip Bus 1

The trip started with a night In Brussels which was much more lively than I expected. Best bars were identified by our coach guide JP. Next day Dortmund v Berlin Great experience in the yellow wall before a night out in Düsseldorf again with all the best bars and clubs identified by JP. Up early to to get to FC Twenty (this was originally going to be the Ajax game but the late kickoff forced the late change. On to Amsterdam for the last night. JP took us on a tour of all the highlights lol and made sure all the bus knew what bars and clubs were best in class. The information pre travel was not as good as it should have been and JP no was having to relay new information to us during the trip. Everyone on our minibus \ coach had a good time.

Amazing weekend!

Amazing trip from start to finish. 100% worth the money and will definitely be back in future. The first game in dortmund was unreal. Yellow wall is something that really needs to be experienced in person. Was able to go straight to Amsterdam but the second game was still an option. We opted to get into Amsterdam early but for the lads that went said the atmosphere was unreal. Craig was outstanding from start to finish. Well organised. Always helpful and knew all the best spots for a drink and party. Even joined in with all the lads each night. All the hotels were amazing, bus trip was comfy and quick. Plenty opportunities to stop. Highly recommend this to any football fan or even just someone wanting to see different parts of the world for a drink. Thanks for the experience guys

Unfortunately our trip with FRT was cancelled due to covid & lockdown restrictions. But I can honestly say that the team & management were first class with their help & assistance. They were quick and very helpful with any questions or queries we had. We all received a full refund on the day we were told which I am grateful for as I was a bit worried about it. Once this pandemic is over we will definitely be booking up wit FRT for a trip!!! Thanks again guys

Amazing weekend

Amazing weekend, not one minute of downtime and full time laughs and memories made. Out for the night with a football legend and out in the day for an amazing football game ticking off different countries during the time on the road 100% reccomend

Had an amazing time, poor organisation.

Had an amazing time with the football and beers and ste our guide was absolutely class guiding us around. As the other reviews say the organisation of the company needs to improve alot. Alot of this it felt last minute even though it could have been organised long before. It sounds like they don't have enough staff to do it properly. They rent the busses from a company and our driver was horrendous, turning way to fast, missing directions and speeding over speed bumps. They changed our second game not long before from Ajax to FC twente. The excuse was train strikes but we was on a minibus? Hotels was changed last minute aswell. They also didn't have everyone's name for the hotels and they had to sort once there. Apart from that it was a great weekend and one to remember.

Great trip to Shalke and PSV

Great trip to Shalke and PSV, excellent seats and atmosphere in Shalke is definitely one to try out. Well stocked beer all weekend, Kai and Lee were great hosts and looked after us well. Weekend is action packed but we’ll worth it so thanks again 👍

Amazing Stag weekend

Fantastic experience and weekend for a stag-do. Couldn’t have asked for more. The Dortmund v Leipzig game was by far the best atmosphere at a football game I’ve ever seen, and for Dortmund to win 2-1 was amazing. The night out in dussledorf afterwards was brilliant loads of cool pubs and lots of options for food. We decided to miss the second game, as some of the stag party had never been to amsterdam, so we got to spend the whole of our next day exploring everything that Amsterdam has to offer. The hotels were all fantastic easily 4* no PlayStation on the bus but the chat and banter made the time on the coach fly by. Plenty of beer was provided by football road trips and our driver was always more than happy to stop for toilet breaks or to grab a quick snack. Special mention to our guide Steve who did a fantastic job of showing us around and checking us into hotels etc, so we didn’t have to worry about anything. Hands down one of the best weekends of my life, memories that’ll last a lifetime. Highly recommend to anyone.

Amazing experience - 100% recommend

Amazing experience! Once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the ‘Yellow Wall’ at Dortmund. Highly recommended for all football fans. Great trip so far with Amsterdam and Rotterdam still to come; featuring Feyeenord and FC Twente. It cannot be put into words how amazing this trip has been

Went last year for my mate Toddy’s 40th birthday & what an amazing trip it was. Had the bus to ourselves as 15 of us went, the free beer took a hammering & they made sure we never run out. Hotels were top quality, great nights out & the yellow wall just wow. We all thought this was a once in a lifetime trip & we jumped straight on the offers for the 21/22 season as we know this is a great trip to go on & all 15 of us can’t wait to go again

Initially booked in 2020 but due to covid this was cancelled as apparently capacity in the dortmund and ajax stadium was restricted which is fair enough but after abit of research we found that this was not true. Anyways rebooked for 21st April 2023, less than a week till we are due to depart and we have had no communication from this company, I have sent numerous emails and Facebook messages with no response what so ever regarding our trip/itinerary. This company is a joke! Lack of communication is poor, apart from in the beginning when you are booking they seem to respond extremely quickly then. 6 days till we are meant to go and we are none the wiser. Unsure if we will get a refund or how to go about this due to being ignored and there is no phone number for this company either. I would stay away from this company md would not recomened using them at all

Fantastic experience!!!

Fantastic experience!!! Seeing Belgium, Germany and Netherlands in all its glory was special. Both games Dortmund and Heerenveen was something I'll never forget but being in the Yellow Wall for the final day of the season was special and something I'll remember forever. But if anyone ever have any doubts about doing this then don't and enjoy the experience you certainly won't regret it.

Paid last june no trip has materialised - no refund no communication - have a look at facebook groups many people say the same. Time for some group action!!

Date of experience : 23 June 2023

What communication

Payment was made by May 2023 (including one month overpayment) but no responses have been made to repeated requests to cancel and have a refund processed. Based on this experience, I'd recommend them to no one. *Edit - email today saying the do not process refunds more than 48hrs after booking.

Follow up from my previous review.

Follow up from my previous review. Now it is nearing the time of the final payment(next month), we are still owed thousands we have received emails basically telling us to remove online reviews as they are not the same company. They are saying this should somehow slow down the payments. Unfortunately we shouldn’t have had to go down this route as it should have been paid by now, however the comments are all fair. This company is terrible to deal with and simply can’t honour their word.

Date of experience : 19 October 2023

Scam of a company

Supposed to have gone to the last games of the season, Dortmund and Feyenoord. Had no contact from the company running up to the trip. Finally got told it had been cancelled due to Covid/Staffing issues/ rising costs/Rail strikes, Delete as applicable. Agreed to receive 70% of what we'd paid, up to now we have received 2 payments of £890. Last payment was June. Still owed four payments of this. No communication since. Company has now magically found a new name, The European Football Experience, although the same guy is behind the scenes again. Anyone that has been robbed by their last venture get blocked from the new page when raising any questions. Absolute scam of a company and fraud of a bloke.

Date of experience : 28 April 2023

New Name / Same Scam

This scam company is now operating under the name "The European Football Experience" and trying their scam again. The company owner has changed his surname to try and restart this scam over again. Don't fall for it. Also if you try to add any review to the new Facebook group, they'll just remove your comment and block you.

An amazing experience

Went away with frt this weekend and honestly had one of the best weekends of my life. We went to Borussia dortmund v Leipzig and fc twenty v heereveen (due to fixture changes). Being in the yellow wall was incredible with a brilliant atmosphere and something off the bucket list but the best times we’re on the coach and out in the cities. Our guide nick was brilliant and a great guy and the rest of the boys on the bus were a great laugh too. Going to take a while to recover but already thinking about booking another.

Date of experience : 02 March 2023

Just got back from a quality weekend with FRT . Our guides Craig & Ben were great in supplying the knowledge for the nights out & organisation in getting us all from A to B to C to D Highlight had to be the yellow wall at Dortmund , best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced & we were slap bang in the middle. Nights out in Düsseldorf & Amsterdam were great. Decent hotels though not central. Would definitely book again.

Date of experience : 02 May 2022

Do not participate in this trip.

Do not participate in this trip. It’s a massive Con and ridiculously expensive considering 3/4 of your holiday you will be sat on a tight fitting bus. The whole trip was not organised at all and was a waste of time. False advertisement of Glamorous luxury sprinters and your unlimited drinks was absolutely wrong. The drinks were stocked at the beginning and only that, the guides had no clue what they were doing and even refused us to get off for toilet trips during the LONG travels.

Date of experience : 24 April 2023

Just got back from Brussels

Just got back from Brussels, dortmund and Amsterdam and I'm a shadow of my former self. Boss sent me home early from work today I've been that useless, constantly shiiting/shivering Can't wait to go again!! Rich the tour guy was sound as, keeping us all topped up with ale and getting us everywhere on time despite the wheels literally coming of the bus(story for another time). FRT could be better with communication and the vans were ok but far from luxurious A company propped up by its tour guides. All in all a really great trip

Date of experience : 07 April 2023

A shambles from start to finish

4 of us booked this trip for the last game of the 2022/23 season and it did not go ahead due to the company supposedly entering administration. We were advised that the best option would be to cancel and that we would receive 6 monthly instalments to receive our money. We last received a payment at the start of July and they are now ignoring our continuous emails on when we will receive further payment. Their communication is shambolic and they clearly do not care that many customers have spent their hard earned money on their ‘once in a lifetime trips’. Do not book with this company!

Date of experience : 15 August 2023

Great Weekend

Had a fabulous weekend with amazing bunch of friends. After a slow start with communication due to extremely busy schedule the weekend before, FRT were very helpful. We had WhatsApp group where all the meeting times and locations were put together. The advertised PlayStation and tv were not available but, that didn’t bother our group. It was my first time visiting Europe to watch football and this trip did not disappoint. The Schalke v Stuttgart atmosphere was amazing and one that will stay with me for a very long time. Once we get over the hangovers we will definitely be looking to book another trip next year.

Date of experience : 24 February 2023

Excellent Weekend

Excellent weekend away, guides were good especially Ben, always stopped when we asked them too, 3 great nights in Brussels, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam, hotels could have been closer but Ben saw us right in which pubs to go to Dortmund yellow wall was amazing, atmosphere was just indescribable, sittard wasn’t bad but not as good as Dortmund Would highly recommend

Been trying to contact this company now for weeks regarding booking. Husbands 50th birthday in laws than a month and I have heard nothing from them. Tried messaging them today and message won’t send and website now saying down for maintenance…..so angry they have taken my money and disappeared!!

Date of experience : 09 May 2023

Top trip! Tickets to see Schalke which was an unbelievable experience and brilliant seats at the PSV game. Even though we received the itinerary pretty close to the date we were going, once we was there the trip was well organised and Kai who ran it could do enough for you. Travel was pretty smooth throughout and hotels were a good standard. Overall great trip.

If your a football fan then football…

If your a football fan then football road trips is a MUST. The yellow wall experience at Dortmund is something I will never forget, also witnessing PSV v Feyenoord was brilliant. Also when the company says the beer fridges open they ain’t lying just a constant supply of beer. Will definitely look to book again multiple times.

A MUST DO bucket list experience

Lifelong memories from our trip. This is a MUST DO for the lads, just an unbelievable experience. Proper top value for money and a real personal and hands on approach. Already talking about the next one with the lads. Being part of the YELLOW WALL at Borussia Dortmund is like nothing I’ve experienced at any other ground in Europe. Any best men planning a stag do you won’t be short of beers, cheers and great memories.

Date of experience : 21 August 2022

Waited a long time to do this trip and…

Waited a long time to do this trip and well worth the wait. Great experience being in the Yellow Wall though the game wasn’t great the atmosphere made up for it. Really enjoyed the Heerenveen game and also a decent atmosphere. Hotels were all good and reasonably well placed for the night life in each city. Enjoyed the craic with Stag lads from Macclesfield Craig and the other guides really helpful. Oh and don’t forget the bus drivers. Special thanks Angelo for dropping us at London City Airport. Would recommend FRT.

Date of experience : 17 May 2022

Footy weekend never to forget!!

Absolutely fantastic trip all thanks to the planning and company of the guides. Craig was awesome and knew everywhere to go to make sure we were always in the heart of the action. Absolutely top bloke as well quickly becoming one of the lads! The football was an experience in itself. Being on the yellow wall at Dortmund was one of the greatest experiences.tge Hotels were all good quality although a little far out, but getting a decent hotel for 60 is always going to be a challenge.. well deserved 5 stars!!!

Amazing weekend of beer and football

Had an amazing weekend visiting 4 countries in 4 days and experiencing the Yellow Wall in Borussia Dortmund was definitely one ticked off of the bucket list. We were supposed to go to the FC Twente game as well but we asked if we could head straight to Amsterdam for a night out instead because of the late kick off. They were more than happy for us to do this. The hotels were top quality and definitely 4 or 5 star. Had great nights out in Brussels, Düsseldorf and Amsterdam with our guide Oliver who took us to some great bars. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys beer and football. Oliver looked after us all and made sure we always had plenty of beer on the bus. We are already talking about planning another trip next season.

Football road trip Easter weekend

Just got back off our football road trip from over the Easter weekend, great experience. Night out in Brussels on Friday, Dortmund yellow wall on Saturday followed by a night out in Düsseldorf. Sunday a late change in itinerary as we’re meant to watch Ajax but because of late kick off we went to FC Twente instead before heading out for our last night in Amsterdam. Ally our guide was brilliant all trip, sorting tickets, helpful and showing us best bars in each place 👌🏻 Only negative was communication could have been better both before and during the experience from the trip organisers.

Ilya sorokin focuses on ‘small details’ to lead islanders to road win.

  • View Author Archive
  • Get author RSS feed

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

DETROIT — The difference between good and great goaltending this season has been evident for the Islanders.

Ilya Sorokin, a year ago, was great — a .924 save percentage and an astounding 51.36 goals saved above expected, per Evolving Hockey that made him a Vezina Trophy finalist and helped the Islanders sneak into the playoffs.

Sorokin, this year, has fallen a little short of that standard.

No one will begrudge him a season in which he came into Thursday’s 5-3 win against Detroit with a .909 save percentage and 9.18 goals saved above expected.

Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin makes a save against Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin (71) in the second period at Little Caesars Arena.

But a second straight year as a top-three Vezina finisher looks unlikely.

If Sorokin can rediscover that extra level of his game over the season’s last six weeks, though, it will again make all the difference to the Islanders’ playoff hopes. And over a two-game road trip, that is just what he did.

“Whenever we win, I feel good,” the typically understated Sorokin said. “Get a break and get ready for next game.”

By the raw numbers, Sorokin’s wins over Dallas and Detroit were nothing incredible — combined, he stopped 52 of 57 shots, and Islanders coach Patrick Roy noted how well the defense played in front of him against the Red Wings.

But for timely saves at timely moments, Sorokin was as dependable as it gets, stopping a Roope Hintz breakaway in the third in Dallas, turning in a perfect night on the penalty kill in Detroit and stretching to protect the post on Patrick Kane’s two-on-one chance late in the third on Thursday.

Ilya Sorokin cools off during the Islanders' win.

The official scoring gave Sorokin credit for the save on Kane, though the Islanders believed the shot went off the post. Regardless, his toe was in place for the stop.

Focused as ever, Sorokin did not think he’d hit another level recently — and hadn’t really even thought much about it.

“I can’t say about this [because] when I say something, next game, s- -t happens,” he said. “It’s all I can do. Just focus on small details and that’s it. Not look at big picture.”

Hudson Fasching (lower body) is likely to be recalled from a conditioning stint with AHL Bridgeport shortly, but not activated off long-term injured reserve. Samuel Bolduc, who is not injured, will stay on his conditioning assignment for the time being.

Scott Mayfield (lower body) and Robert Bortuzzo (high ankle sprain) have yet to skate on their own while back in New York.

Moscow Itinerary: How To Spend 3 Days In Moscow

Moscow is the capital of Russia and there are few cities in the world that have played such a significant part in history.

Home to the Kremlin, the Red Square, the colorful St. Basil's Cathedral, and many more famous landmarks, Moscow is a city like no other.

This Moscow itinerary will help you plan your trip and make the most of your time in Moscow. From the best places to see in Moscow to how to get around, this post has got you covered.

What to do in Moscow in 3 days

  • Day 1: The Red Square, GUM Department Store, St. Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum, and the State Historical Museum.
  • Day 2: The Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Gorky Park, and the Bolshoi Theatre.
  • Day 3: Izmailovsky Market, Bunker 42, and Zaryadye Park.

The famous pedestrian street Nikolskaya Street (Никольская улица) located in Kitay-Gorod Moscow with thousands of fairy lights.

Important things to know when planning a trip to Moscow

The best time to plan a trip to Moscow is April-May and September-October . During these months temperatures are (generally) quite comfortable, though even in April there can be a bit of snow! The summer months are hot, both in regard to temperature as well as activities in the city. While it's a nice time to visit, it's also the busiest time of the year to visit Moscow. Hotel prices reflect this as well and summer definitely isn't a great time for budget travelers to visit Moscow. Winter in Moscow is cold, and I mean seriously cold (-15°C isn't rare). However, if you can withstand the subzero temperatures and freezing winds, it can be a magical time to visit. A snow-covered St. Basil’s Cathedral is a sight you will never forget. Keep in mind that days are short in winter and be sure to bring plenty of warm winter clothes!

The official currency in Russia is the Russian Ruble (₽ or RUB). Here you can find the current exchange rates, at the time of writing €1 is approximately 70RUB and $1 is around 62RUB.

Yes, you probably do. Getting a visa for Russia requires a bit of time and effort. You need to fill out several forms and provide a detailed travel itinerary and information about your accommodation. Also, you will need a Visa Support Letter which can be provided by your travel agency or your hotel. Depending on your nationality, there may be additional requirements, please refer to the information provided on the website of your country's Embassy in Russia.

While most of the things to see in Moscow listed in this post are within walking distance of each other, sometimes you will have to travel a bit further afield. The best way to get around in Moscow is by metro. It's cheap and efficient and a sightseeing activity in itself, because Moscow has the most beautiful metro stations in the world ! Among the most exquisitely decorated stations are Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Mayakovskaya, Taganskaya, and Prospect Mira Station, but there are many more worthwhile stations to be found in the Moscow underground. You can purchase a single ticket from one of the ticket machines or get a rechargeable Troika Card when you plan on taking the metro several times. Read more details on how to use the Moscow metro here . If you prefer to get around by taxi, that's possible too. We used the Gett app to order a taxi (similar to Uber) to avoid confusion about our intended destination and having to negotiate in Russian. A convenient extra for families is the Gett Kids option, these cars are outfitted with a car seat.

The best things to do in Moscow

While you could easily spend a week in Moscow (or more), most of us, unfortunately, don't have that much time available.

This 3-day Moscow itinerary will guide you to the most popular and important places to visit in Moscow, as well as to some of the more unusual things to do in Moscow.

Below you can find the list of the Moscow sightseeing highlights included in this post.

The Red Square

Gum department store, st. basil's cathedral, lenin's mausoleum, the state historical museum, the kremlin, cathedral of christ the saviour.

  • The Bolshoi Theatre

Izmailovsky Market

Zaryadye park.

Moscow itinerary day 1

The Red Square Moscow Russia

There is no better place to start your first day in Moscow, than at the world-famous Red Square.

This square is considered the central square of Moscow, not just because all the major streets start here, but also because no matter where you look when standing on this square, there are historic buildings all around.

Starting with the impressive GUM store and going clockwise, there is the colorful Saint Basil's Cathedral, the Kremlin, Lenin's Mausoleum, the State Historical Museum, and the Kazan Cathedral.

However, before entering any of these Moscow must-see attractions, allow yourself a moment to take in the view and let it sink in that you're standing on historical grounds (and a UNESCO site).

The Red Square was the official address of the Soviet government and played an important part in history. Many military parades have been held (and are still being held) here. It's the place where protests have taken place, as well as high-profile concerts from famous international artists.

All in all, it's one of the places in Moscow you can't miss during your Moscow city trip!

Red Square with GUM department store in Moscow

Yulia from That's What She Had: it might seem like visiting a department store is not something you’d do on the first visit to Russia’s capital.

But GUM is not like any other department store and is well worth your time, if only for its unique architecture.

First of all, it’s located right on Red Square which makes it an easy stop on your Moscow trip itinerary. Second, GUM is not a simple mall, but an institution built in the late XIX century.

The abbreviation stands for  Glavniy Universalniy Magazin or Main Universal Store. Its impressive facade extends for over 240 meters along the eastern side of Red Square.

Inside you’ll find a beautiful glass ceiling supported by a metal framework, not unlike the ones found in the old train stations of Great Britain.

football road trips trustpilot

While shopping in GUM will cost you an arm and a leg, there’s one reason why tourists and locals come here anyways:  traditional Russian food  at Stolovaya #57. Stolovaya is Russian for canteen and this is where you can get your  pelmeni , borsch , and  pirozhki  fix!

Afterward, don’t forget to get the famous  plombir  ice cream in one of the kiosks on the ground floor.

Saint Basil's Cathedral Moscow

Saint Basil's Cathedral with its colorful domes is easily recognizable and one of the most popular Moscow tourist attractions. The building, built on orders from Ivan the Terrible, was completed in 1561 to commemorate the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan.

Until the construction of Ivan the Great Bell Tower (which can be found within the walls of the Kremlin), it was the tallest building in Moscow.

The design of St. Basil's Cathedral is truly unique; it's shaped like the flame of a bonfire and not one building in a similar style can be found in the whole of Russia.

A legend tells the story of how Ivan the Terrible had the architects of the Cathedral blinded so they could never build anything comparable.

This is a myth, however, but the fact remains that Saint Basil's Cathedral is one of a kind and it's not surprising it has become the symbol of Russia.

Lenin Mausoleum Moscow Russia

Wendy from The Nomadic Vegan: Lenin Mausoleum is hard to miss. It's a stepped-pyramid construction that sits right at the base of the Kremlin walls on the western side of Red Square.

Entrance is free but note that opening hours are quite limited, with visiting hours lasting only from 10 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

If seeing Lenin's embalmed body is important to you, be sure to take this into account when planning your itinerary in Moscow.

One of my  top tips for travelers to Russia  is to arrive early, well before the mausoleum opens, as the queue is usually quite long. However, usually, the queue does move pretty quickly.

This is especially true now that they have lifted the ban on bags and cameras.

It used to be that all cameras, smartphones, and bags of any size had to be checked at a left-luggage office nearby. But now you can bring a small handbag or backpack as well as your camera and phone.

Photography inside the mausoleum is still strictly forbidden, but you are allowed to take photos of the graves of various other important Russian figures that line the path leading to the mausoleum.

Once you finally enter the mausoleum, the atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful and uncrowded. It doesn't feel nearly as rushed as when visiting Mao Ze Dong's tomb in Beijing or Ho Chi Minh's body in Hanoi , for example.

The illumination of the body is very well done and would make for superb photography if it wasn't forbidden. As an added bonus, just after you exit, you'll see the grave of Joseph Stalin outside.

State Historical Museum Moscow

Rai from A Rai Of Light: the imposing crimson building at the northern end of the Red Square is the State Historical Museum.

By decree of Alexander III, the museum was built with the support of Russian historians, philosophers, and artists. The red brick building, dating from 1875, was designed in the Russian revival style by Vladimir Shervud.

The National Museum of Russia houses a collection of over four million items, devoted to the history of the country's ancient and imperial period.

The exhibitions include many items previously owned by members of the Romanov dynasty, such as documents, artwork, personal items, furnishings, and decorations from the palace interiors.

Another exhibit features relics of the prehistoric tribes that once inhabited this region.

Notable items include ancient manuscripts, birch-bark scrolls, a longboat excavated from the banks of the Volga River, and the largest coin collection in Russia, sourced from the museums in St Petersburg .

The State Historical Museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The entrance fee is 700₽ per adult.

Moscow itinerary day 2

Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin

When listing the best Moscow things to do, one cannot miss the Kremlin! The Kremlin houses the current seat of power in Russia and has done so for several decades.

Within its walls, the offices of the Russian Government can be found. During Soviet rule, the Kremlin was where all the important decisions were made but its history goes back for many centuries.

The first mention of the Kremlin in history books was in 1147, however, the current citadel dates from the 16th century.

The Kremlin is one of the major fortifications found in Europe, with walls that are up to 6.5 meters thick and 19 meters high in particular sections.

Inside the complex, there are many government buildings, however, these aren't accessible to the public.

Around Cathedral Square you'll find (as the name suggests) many churches and cathedrals, such as the Cathedral of the Archangel, Annunciation Cathedral, the Church of Laying Our Lady's Holy Robe, and Ivan the Great Bell-Tower.

While Cathedral Square is definitely worth visiting, the highlight of the Kremlin is a visit to the Armoury.

Inside you can find an impressive collection of Faberge eggs, beautiful dresses worn by Catherine the Great, intricately decorated thrones used by the Tsars, and much more. Unfortunately, photography is forbidden inside the Armoury.

Practical information about visiting the Kremlin

In order to visit both Cathedral Square and the Armoury, you will have to buy two separate tickets. A ticket to Cathedral Square costs 700₽ and a ticket to the Armoury is 1000₽. Prices mentioned are for adults, children below 16 years old are free.

Tickets can be bought at the ticket office onsite on the same day, however, there's no guarantee tickets will be available, especially during peak season.

Conveniently, tickets can be bought online as well, which is highly advisable if you want to make sure you'll be able to visit the Kremlin during your city trip to Moscow.

How much time to spend at the Kremlin

Be sure to allow plenty of time to explore the Kremlin, at least half a day but it's easy to spend more time as there is so much to see.

Please note there isn't any food sold inside the Kremlin, so bring a snack and enough water (especially in summer when it can get pretty hot).

Luggage storage

Backpacks aren't allowed inside the Kremlin, they can be stored (for free) in the cloakroom, but you can bring your camera and a small purse.

We could also take our Babyzen Yoyo stroller inside, which was very convenient as our 10-month-old son could take a nap while we explored the sights.

Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Moscow

After the original Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was demolished by Stalin in 1931, a new version was completed in 2000.

The imposing building is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world (103 meters high), and is beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside.

Visiting the Cathedral is free of charge and it's open any day of the week from 10 am to 5 pm (except on Mondays when the opening hours are 1 to 5 pm).

When visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour it's important to dress appropriately. For men, this means no shorts or tank tops.

Women can't enter with mini skirts or shorts, strap tops, or anything too revealing. Also, women are advised to cover their heads with a scarf as a sign of respect.

Inside the Cathedral photography isn't allowed, but believe me when I say there is plenty to see. There are beautiful frescoes, colorful icons, impressive statues, and other vivid decorations.

For a beautiful view over Moscow, walk up the stairs to the 40-meter high observation deck (entrance fee 400₽).

Visit Gorky Park

Gorky Park ice skating Moscow Russia

Helen from Holidays from Hels : Gorky Park, named after the Soviet writer Maxim Gorky, has recently undergone extensive regeneration to become Moscow's central leisure hub for young Muscovites.

Every day of the week you can find many Moscow residents strolling along the banks of the river in the summer, hiring bikes, picnicking on the grass, or dining at one of the many restaurants.

Open-air cinemas, petanque, and ping pong are all on offer. Not to be missed is the iconic white stone entranceway and museum, complete with columns carved with Soviet hammers and sickles.

In winter, look out for the ducks waddling across the frozen Moskva River, and watch boats attempting to navigate through the cracked ice. However, the real winter highlight is to try ice skating on one of the biggest rinks in Europe!

Ice skating in Gorky Park

The park’s maze of pedestrian pathways is transformed into one huge skating rink, which can play host to up to four thousand skaters.

Not surprisingly, Russians are talented ice skaters and there is a good chance you will find yourself next to a pirouetting ballerina.

Handily, you will find you will already be wearing most of what you need – gloves, hat, scarf, and thick socks and you can hire skates on-site. Lockers are included in the price if you don’t fancy skating with your day pack.

Disco tunes fill the air, and the whole arena is backlit in spectacular neon lights. Rest your weary legs and warm up at one of the cafes dotted along the frozen pathways, with the added bonus of not having to take off your skates.

Opening times

The rink is open from 10 am until 11 pm on weekdays and until midnight at weekends but closes between 3 and 5 pm. Like most attractions in Moscow, the rink is closed on Mondays.

The prices range from 350-650₽ and go up in the evening, which is the best time for the light show. Arriving at 5 pm, just as the rink opens for the evening session will give you time to find your ice legs before it fills up with more confident skaters.

Whilst waiting for the rink to open, try out the nearby tubing track where you can shoot down a snowy hill on an inflatable ring repeatedly for a very enjoyable half an hour!

How to get to Gorky Park by metro

The nearest metro is Park Kultury Station, on the other side of the river. As always, check out in advance what this looks like in the Russian Alphabet so you know when to get off!

Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theater Moscow

James Ian at Travel Collecting : one of the best places to go in Moscow is the famous Bolshoi Theater, located only a short walk from Red square. Bolshoy means big in Russian, and the theatre is not only big but also beautiful.

There are two ways to see the theater: on a guided tour or by watching a performance .

Take a guided tour

  • English tours are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:30 am. Tickets for these tours can be bought (on the same day) at the ticket office located in the Historic building of the theatre (door #12).
  • A ticket costs 2000₽ per person, tours last one hour, and the number of people on a tour is limited to a maximum of 20. The tour takes you inside the theater and to the historic main stage.

Watch a performance

My favorite way to see the theater, though, is to enjoy a performance and experience the theater as a patron.

The entrance is a little underwhelming when you first arrive, the street lobby is small and quite plain and you will be immediately directed up to your floor.

There are helpful attendants on each floor to guide you to the correct door. Arrive a little early and head up to the Grand Salon on the top floor where you can enjoy a glass of champagne while people-watching (Russians dress up for the theater).

Then head to your seat and take in the stunning theater before enjoying the famous Bolshoi Ballet or another performance.

Be sure to book a show at the historic stage, there is a modern stage as well but that isn't nearly as much fun.

Moscow itinerary day 3

Izmailovsky Market Moscow

Karen from WanderlustingK : one of the most interesting Moscow places to visit is the Izmailovsky Market .

This flea market and tourist attraction a bit outside of the tourist center is a recreation of a Tzar’s Palace, known as a Kremlin, produced in a colorful 16th-century style.

The market is filled with tiny stalls that sell everything from snacks to kitsch to authentic items from Soviet times such as hats, pins, and other pieces of memorabilia.

You'll also find authentic antiques such as vases, paintings, and other religious items if you're looking to splurge within the interior parts of the market.

Negotiating in English is not always possible as many vendors only speak Russian, so be sure to practice your Russian numbers and see how well you can do with haggling.

It's important to carry cash when you visit given that many vendors do not accept cards. We ended up purchasing a series of hats at the market, along with a beautiful hot tea glass with a metal holder with a typical Russian scene.

Elsewhere in the market, you’ll also find a few tourist shops that sell typical Russian products. It takes a few hours to see the market in full, so arrive early as the best items go quickly!

Hallway in Bunker 42 Moscow

Lindsey from Have Clothes, Will Travel : Bunker-42 was once a top-secret, Soviet military complex. Stalin commissioned its construction after the United States succeeded in creating a nuclear bomb.

An impressive 65 meters (or about 213 feet) underground, was the desired depth to protect Russia’s top officials from a nuclear attack.

Bunker 42 became operational in 1954. Fortunately, it was never needed for its true purpose, and instead it was used as the command center of strategic bombers for nearly 30 years.

Nowadays it's a museum dedicated to the Cold War and visiting is a truly unique experience!

You will need to join a tour in order to see the museum. You can call ahead to book your tour (the number is: +7 499 703-44-55), there are several English tours throughout the day that are held at 13:30, 16:30, and 18:30 (the price is 2200₽).

On Mondays, there is an extra tour at 17:30, which lasts an additional 30 minutes and costs 2800₽ per person. There is also the option to book a private tour. However, I am unsure of the price for this.

You will have to wait until exactly 15 minutes before your tour begins before you'll be admitted inside. After paying for your tickets and a quick restroom stop you will descend 65 meters underground…

Another option for visiting Bunker-42, if you would rather not do the tour, is to visit the restaurant inside Bunker-42. Actually, I highly recommend visiting the restaurant before or after a tour as well!

While the food is not that great, it’s worth visiting for a drink. The restaurant is also located within the bunker and is decorated in the old Soviet style.

From time to time there will be live performances and visiting Bunker 42 is definitely an experience worth having while in Moscow! After all, how many people can say they've had a drink in a top-secret Soviet military bunker?

If you’re visiting Moscow during peak season (June-July-August), it would be worth making a reservation, to avoid having to wait. Otherwise, I would not say you need to worry about a reservation at the restaurant.

Bunker-42 is a short cab ride away from Red Square (10-15 minutes). But I recommend taking the metro to get there. The closest station is Taganskaya, which is a beautiful metro station very much worth visiting.

Pedestrian boardwalk in Park Zaryad'ye (also called Zaryadye Park)

Park Zaryad'ye or Zaryadye Park is a lovely place for a stroll and a nice place to relax after a day of sightseeing in Moscow, especially when exploring Moscow with kids.

There are many things to see and do in this park, but I recommend starting your visit at The River Overlook , a 70-meter-long boardwalk with beautiful views over the river and the Kremlin.

Other interesting places to visit in Zaryadye Park are the Ice Cave, The Museum of Nature, and The Glass Crust. But most importantly, do as the Muscovites do and find yourself a nice place in the park to sit down and relax.

Enjoy the view, do some people-watching, and take a moment to think back about all the Moscow top sights you've seen in the past couple of days.
