The extra time will allow for evening shore excursions, such as a wine tasting in a Tuscan villa while the sun sets, and the chance to see art by Pablo Picasso and other greats in a Swedish prince’s former home. There will also be excursions during the day on offer, along with other programming.

Are luxury cruises worth the money? We did the math

How much do the cruises cost?

The sailings start at $7,599 per person based on double occupancy. The fares include food; drinks including wines and spirits; many excursions; gratuities; round-trip flights in business class on intercontinental air travel from the U.S. and Canada; and more.

Passengers booked in Concierge-level suites and up will also get a one-night hotel stay before the cruise.

This World Cruise to 140 Countries Will Set You Back as Much as $839,999

C ruises can be very cheap. Without much effort, just about anyone can snag a very affordable seven-night sailing in the Caribbean, Alaska, or even the Mediterranean. World cruises, however, are entirely different. Because they last between three and nine months, they tend to cost a bundle. That said, no world cruise is more expensive than Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ newly announced 2027 World of Splendor voyage .

The world cruise, which will depart on January 11, 2027, from Miami, Florida, for a 140-night voyage around the world on board the Seven Seas Splendor, is the most expensive to date. Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ press release earlier this month announced that the fares for this all-inclusive sailing will start “from $91,499 per guest for a luxurious Veranda Suite up to $839,999 per guest for the opulent Regent Suite,” i.e. from $650 to $6000 per guest per night. But because cruises are based on double occupancy, you can multiply those numbers by two.

For such immense sums of money, you’d expect Regent Seven Seas Cruises to create a once-in-a-lifetime trip and, from what the cruise line’s website says, nobody should be disappointed. The Seven Seas Splendor will depart from Miami, visit 71 ports in 40 countries on six continents, and will end in New York City nearly five months later. During the voyage, guests will have the opportunity to choose from 480 shore excursions and visit 73 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Seven Seas Splendor, delivered to Regent Seven Seas Cruises in 2020, is a small ship, accommodating a maximum of 746 guests in 373 suites and 548 crew members (a ratio of one crew member to 1.4 guests). The accommodations on board the ship are all luxurious, even the cheapest ones, but the Regent Suite takes the cake. Described by the cruise line as “the most exclusive address residence at sea”, the Regent Suite offers 4,443 square feet of space, including a 1,300 square-foot wraparound veranda and a glass-enclosed solarium, a sauna, a steam room, and a jacuzzi. The suite also has a Steinway grand piano, artworks by Picasso, and a $200,000 bed set-up. Is it worth $1.7 million for two guests for the duration of the 2027 world cruise? Take a virtual tour of the place and make your own mind. Or better even, give it a try — if you can afford it.

Extreme pricing for top cruise suites just hit a new level: $1.7 million

Gene Sloan

Remember that super pricey luxury cruise we told you about last week — the one that cost up to $550,000 per cabin ? It's a downright bargain compared to another wildly high-priced sailing announced this week.

Luxury line Regent Seven Seas Cruises on Wednesday revealed plans for an epic 140-night world cruise out of Miami that would start at an unprecedented $182,998 for the smallest available rooms.

Kicking off Jan. 11, 2027, aboard Regent's 746-passenger Seven Seas Splendor , the sailing will cost as much as $1.7 million for those booking the ship's top suite, according to the line.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

That's a top fare level several times higher than any cruise line has ever charged for a single voyage.

The $1.7 million fare — $1,679,998, to be exact — will be for the famously over-the-top Regent Suite on Seven Seas Splendor.

Bigger than the average American house at 4,443 square feet, the Regent Suite on Seven Seas Splendor is known for its industry-leading opulence, which includes such luxury touches as a bed with a handmade mattress that cost $200,000 and a private spa area with unlimited treatments.

No other cruise ship suite comes close to the Regent Suite on Seven Seas Splendor in size, luxury or amenities other than two almost identical suites on sister ships Seven Seas Grandeur and Seven Seas Explorer.

Photos: Inside the Regent Suite, cruising's most opulent accommodations

Each of the three Regent Suites regularly sells out at more than $10,000 per night.

The world cruise that Regent announced Wednesday will mark the first time that the Regent Suite — the most expensive suite in cruising — has been available to book for such a lengthy cruise. Seven Seas Splendor has never operated a world cruise before.

Regent typically offers one such monthslong world voyage each year. But until now, it offered the voyages on older, less opulent vessels with smaller and less pricey suites.

regent seven seas cruises travel insurance

Regent's one world cruise for 2026, for instance, will take place on the 23-year-old Seven Seas Mariner, where the top suites measure 2,000 square feet — less than half the size of the Regent Suites. Fares for that voyage top out at $532,998 for the biggest suite.

While still sky-high, that top fare for the 2026 sailing is less than a third of the cost of the Regent Suite on the 2027 world cruise.

Around the world in luxury

Starting in Miami and ending nearly five months later in New York City, Regent's newly announced world cruise will include a full circling of the globe with stops at 71 different destinations in 40 countries.

Heading westward after leaving Miami, Seven Seas Splendor will travel across the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and across the Pacific before a series of calls in New Zealand and Australia.

From there, the ship will travel across wide swaths of Asia, the Middle East and Europe before returning to North America.

Regent said Wednesday that the vessel would travel 35,668 nautical miles during the voyage, which will include stops at every continent except Antarctica.

"We have seen continued interest and demand to venture farther afield and for longer durations," Andrea DeMarco, Regent's president, said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

As is typical for Regent, the fares for the voyage are highly all-inclusive. Those who book the trip can pick from 486 included shore excursions and will get unlimited valet laundry, including dry cleaning, while on board. First-class flights to and from the ship, door-to-door luggage service and onboard medical consultations are also included.

A one-night pre-cruise stay at a luxury hotel in Miami , a pre-cruise gala and special shoreside events in Panama City, Panama; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Malaga, Spain, also come with the fare.

Additionally, fares include dining at specialty restaurants, premium beverages like fine wines and spirits, and unlimited Wi-Fi.

In its announcement, Regent said Seven Seas Splendor would sail on the voyage with 13,000 pounds of lobster, 14,000 pounds of filet mignon, 3,600 pounds of smoked salmon and 150 pounds of caviar.

The ship will also carry 58,000 bottles of wine and 14,000 bottles of Champagne.

The newly announced world cruise will open for reservations April 10, but potential passengers can preregister to book the sailing beginning Wednesday by calling 844-473-4368 or visiting RSSC.com/2027-World-Cruise .

Regent Seven Seas Cruises Insurance - 2024 Review

Regent seven seas cruises insurance.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises Insurance

  • Strong Insurance Partner
  • Available at Check-Out
  • Weak Medical Coverage
  • Weak Medical Evacuation

Sharing is caring!

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is recognized as one of the world’s premier luxury cruise lines. Perfect for active seniors, with their brand promise of  Luxury Goes Exploring , Regent Seven Seas travels to more than 510 destinations worldwide. One would think that with all the luxury Regent Seven Seas offers, they would also offer a luxurious travel insurance plan. We found the only thing luxurious in the Regent Seven Seas Cruises travel insurance is the price.

Regent Seven Seas offers one travel insurance plan, their Guest Protection Program. The plan is underwritten by Nationwide, a strong insurance partner, and administered by AON Affinity, another strong insurance partner.

TravelDefenders  knows that every traveler has different needs, and only by having multiple options can a traveler find a plan that best fits their travel needs. In this review, we’ll compare Regent’s Guest Protection Program to travel insurance plans available on the wider marketplace, so you can determine what option is best for you.

Picture1

Our Regent Cruise: Riviera Dreaming

Cruise

For our example, we chose a 16-night cruise from Los Angeles, CA, to Lima, Peru, from 11/3/22-11/19/22, for our sample couple, ages 55 and 60. After taxes and fees, the cruise cost total is $24,998 for both travelers.

Guest Protection Program Cost

Travel Protection Cost

To add Regent’s Guest Protection Program to their booking, it would cost our two travelers an additional $4,999.60. That’s 20% of their trip cost, which is an exorbitant premium to pay for the lack of coverage offered. We’ll discuss that further later on, but first, let’s look at what other options are available on the wider travel insurance marketplace.

Alternative Travel Insurance Options

Whenever we review cruise line travel insurance plans, we always compare them to options available on the wider marketplace. This way, you’re able to see what the cruise line offers and whether it’s a good value and fit for your needs.

TravelDefenders recommends all travelers venturing abroad have sufficient insurance in case of an overseas catastrophe. This saves you the heartache of paying for medical treatment out of pocket or a possible 6-figure transportation fee to return home in a worst-case scenario.

Therefore,  TravelDefenders  advises carrying a  minimum of $100k Medical Insurance, $250k Emergency Medical Evacuation, and a Waiver of Pre-Existing Medical Conditions whenever possible . This is the primary benchmark we use to determine if a cruise lines travel insurance is up to par.

Using the same trip details, we ran a quote at TravelDefenders that produced 25 available travel insurance options. For this review, we compared the Guest Protection Program available from Regent to two plans available at TravelDefenders .

First, we compared it to the least expensive plan that meets our minimum recommendations for this trip, which is the IMG Travel SE for $1,581.74. This plan offers a savings of $3,417.86 over Regent’s Guest Protection Program.

IMG Travel SE

Then, we compared it to the John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) for $2,857.50, because that is the least expensive plan that both meets our minimum recommendations and includes the option to Cancel For Any Reason , which still results in a savings of $2,412.10 .

JH Silver CFAR

Next, we’ll look at how the our two chosen plans from TravelDefenders compare with Regent’s plan in a side-by-side comparison.

Comparison Table Outline-1

As you can see, Regent’s Guest Protection Program offers minimal coverage for the exorbitant premium, especially when it comes to the low Medical Insurance and Medical Evacuation coverage offered. Furthermore, the plan doesn’t cover Pre-Existing Conditions nor offer a Cancel For Any Reason option.

On the other hand, both IMG Travel SE and John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) provide adequate Medical Insurance and Medical Evacuation coverage, and have the ability to cover Pre-Existing Conditions. John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) also offers the added benefit of allowing a traveler to cancel their trip for any reason whatsoever, and still receive a partial reimbursement of their trip cost.

Now, we’ll discuss these important coverages further.

Trip Cancellation

Travelers value  Trip Cancellation  benefits because it allows you to get a full reimbursement of your pre-paid and non-refundable trip costs if you must cancel your trip for a covered reason. As such, the more covered reasons a policy has for cancellation, the better.

Disappointingly, the Guest Protection Program only covers a mere 6 cancellation reasons:

1. Your Sickness, Accidental Injury or death, that results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of Loss preventing Your participation in the Trip. A Physician must advise to cancel the Trip on or before the Scheduled Departure Date.

2. Sickness, Accidental Injury or death of a Family Member or Traveling Companion booked to travel with You, that results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician that causes Your Trip to be cancelled.

3. Sickness, Accidental Injury or death of a non-traveling Family Member.

4. You or Your Traveling Companion are a victim of a felonious assault.

5. You or Your Traveling Companion being hijacked, Quarantined, required to serve on a jury, or subpoenaed within ten (10) days of departure; having Your Home made Uninhabitable by Natural Disaster.

6. You or Your Traveling Companion being directly involved in a traffic accident (substantiated by a police report provided by You to the Company) while en route to departure.

With a comprehensive trip insurance program found on the marketplace, travelers enjoy the best possible coverage without paying an unnecessarily high premium. These policies cover all the above reasons and more, including but not limited to:

  • Your destination rendered uninhabitable or inaccessible by fire, flood, natural disaster, or vandalism
  • A terrorist incident your destination
  • A documented theft of passport or visas
  • An unannounced strike causing a complete cessation of services
  • Inclement weather causing a complete cessation of services
  • Equipment failure/mechanical breakdown of the Common Carrier
  • Involuntary termination or layoff
  • Revocation of military leave due to war
  • Bankruptcy or default of airline, cruise line, tour operator

By comparison, the IMG Travel SE covers all the above, with a staggering total of 39 covered cancellation reasons. Another massive benefit of this plan is that it covers cancellation if the US State Department issues a new Level 4 (Do Not Travel) advisory for your destination country after the policy is in effect and within 30 days of departure. Many travel insurance plans do not cover this, and it is especially helpful to have in these times of Covid-19.

While the John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) covers 14 cancellation reasons, it also includes Cancel For Any Reason. Cancel For Any Reason allows you to cancel for any other reason not listed in the policy and still receive up to a 75% reimbursement of your trip cost.

We’ll discuss Cancel For Any Reason further below.

Lima

Cancel For Any Reason

Cancel For Any Reason  coverage offers piece of mind and flexibility by allowing you cancel your trip and receive a partial refund for any reason not otherwise listed in the policy, provided certain conditions are met.

To be eligible for a Cancel For Any Reason plan, you must:

  • Purchase a plan within 10-21 days (depending on the policy) of placing your initial payment or deposit towards your trip
  • Insure 100% of your pre-paid and non-refundable trip costs
  • Cancel your trip no later than 48 hours prior to departure

Cancel For Any Reason reimburses 50%-75% (depending on the policy) of your total trip cost when you cancel your trip for any reason that is not covered under the policy. However, when cancelling for a covered reason, such as an unforeseen illness, you would still be reimbursed 100% of your total trip cost.

John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) is available for purchase within 14 days of your initial payment or deposit towards your trip, whereas Regent Seven Seas does not offer Cancel For Any Reason coverage.

Trip Interruption

Similar to Trip Cancellation,  Trip Interruption reimburses you for the missed portion of your trip if you experience a covered disruption. For example, if you unexpectedly fell ill during the cruise and had to seek treatment off the ship for two days, that’s a covered Trip Interruption (along with a Medical Insurance claim).

In some cases, if time allows, your Trip Interruption may allow you to return to the trip after missing a portion of it. Other times, you might have to go home early to tend to a family emergency.

Trip Interruption reimburses you up to your insured trip cost for the unused, prepaid non-refundable expenses for your land/water travel arrangements, plus the additional transportation cost paid to either:

  • Join your trip if you must depart after your scheduled departure date or travel via alternate travel; or
  • Rejoin your trip from the point where you interrupted your trip or transport you to your originally scheduled return destination.

The three plans we reviewed in this article all cover up to 150% refund. The extra 50% helps cover the added cost of transportation. Trip Interruption insurance that exceeds 100% is a hallmark of a robust and comprehensive travel insurance policy, so we’re happy to see Regent’s Guest Protection Program offer this coverage as well.

Medical Insurance

Medical Insurance is one of the most critical elements of a travel insurance plan. Americans often have the false impression that countries with universal health care will treat them for free, but this is not the case. Citizens pay taxes for this privilege, whereas travelers would be required to pay full cost for health care. Inpatient care at a private hospital can run $3,000 to $4,000 per night, plus treatments and surgeries.

Even more troublesome,  Medicare  does not pay for your treatment outside the US. In addition, many private healthcare plans only reimburse for emergencies. For example, although some Medicare supplements cover up to $50k of emergency treatment abroad, that’s a lifetime limit and you’ll be on the hook for a 20% co-pay out of pocket. These policies falsely lead you to believe you’re safely covered but leave your retirement savings exposed to the risk of sudden, catastrophic financial loss.

Furthermore, the US State Department does not provide any medical support to Americans traveling overseas. In fact, the US State Department and CDC emphatically recommend all travelers get robust Medical Insurance.

Thus,  TravelDefenders advises travelers carry at least $100k in Medical Insurance when leaving the US. This is enough coverage to assure you’re properly treated without paying off medical bills for years to come.

Disappointingly, Regent’s Guest Protection Program only offers $20k in Medical Insurance. Meanwhile, the IMG Travel SE covers $250k in Medical Insurance and the John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) covers $100k. These levels are much better suited for international travel.

Emergency Medical Evacuation

Medical Evacuation  coverage pays for transportation from the place of injury or illness to a local hospital. Once you’re stable and the physician treating you determines it’s necessary, Medical Evacuation returns you home. In a worst-case scenario, such as if your condition is critical and you require ongoing care by a medical team to return home, an air ambulance might be most appropriate.

Private air transportation such as this can cost $15k to $25k per flight hour and coming back to the US from overseas can get very expensive, very quickly.

In addition, many travelers assume their private health insurance pays for Medical Evacuation so they can get home. In fact, private health insurance plans, including Medicare supplements, do not include Medical Evacuation benefits beyond a limited amount for a ground ambulance to the hospital. So, that medical flight cost comes out of your pocket and leaves your retirement savings at risk.

For these reasons,  TravelDefenders recommends all travelers leaving the US carry a minimum of $250k Emergency Medical Evacuation coverage. Travers venturing even further away from home, to destinations such as Africa, Asia, or beyond, should carry a minimum of $500k.

Regent’s Guest Protection Program offers a meager $50k Medical Evacuation benefit. This is simply not enough coverage to ensure you’re properly protected for a worst-case scenario. Alternatively, both IMG Travel SE and John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) cover $500k per person.

Peru3

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

A  Pre-Existing Condition  refers to an injury, illness, or disease of an insured, traveling companion, business partner, or family member, for which care, testing or treatment was given or recommended by a physician, within the 60-180-day period immediately preceding, and including, the purchase date of the plan.

Travel insurance does not pay benefits for Pre-Existing Conditions. It’s a standard, industry-wide exclusion. However, many policies offer a waiver that adds coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions back into the policy. Typically, these policies must be purchased within 14-21 days (depending on policy) of the date you place your initial payment or deposit towards the trip. This timeframe is called the Time Sensitive Period.

TravelDefenders recommends travelers, especially seniors, purchase a travel insurance plan that covers Pre-Existing Conditions whenever possible.

Regent’s Guest Protection Program does not offer a Waiver of Pre-Existing Conditions, but will automatically cover your condition if it is stable, older than 60 days, and controlled with medication.

Alternatively, both IMG Travel SE and John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) include a Waiver of Pre-Existing Conditions if purchased within the Time Sensitive Period. The Time Sensitive Period is 20 days for IMG Travel SE and 14 days for John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%).

There is no additional fee for the waiver, it’s just a matter of timing. If you wait too long to buy travel insurance, you lose out on the peace of mind that comes with the Pre-Existing Condition Waiver.

However, like the Guest Protection Program, both policies will still automatically cover your Pre-Existing Condition if the condition is stable, older than 60 days, and controlled with medication, even if you purchase outside of the Time Sensitive Period.

Regent’s Guest Protection Program offers insufficient coverage for the high price. In fact, cruisers, particularly seniors, who purchase the policy believing they’ll have proper cancellation protection and medical benefits would be in for a harsh reality if they had to make a claim.

Here’s why:

  • Medical Insurance and Medical Evacuation limits are incredibly low. It leaves the traveler open to a massive financial risk in the event of a medical emergency.
  • Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverages are extremely limited.
  • Pre-Existing Medical Conditions are excluded with Regent.
  • The plan does not even cover default of Regent Seven Seas itself - the cruise line. If Regent went into bankruptcy, neither their travel insurance plan nor the company itself would pay for a reimbursement.

All in all, it’s a traveler-unfriendly and restrictive policy with a premium price. You can find a much better value for your money by comparing travel insurance plans available at TravelDefenders and potentially save thousands of dollars. In our review, we found that our sample couple would save an astounding $3,417.86 by selecting the IMG Travel SE over Regent’s Guest Protection Program.

Even selecting a more flexible Cancel For Any Reason plan like the John Hancock Silver (CFAR 75%) would save our sample couple $2,412.10 . Either option would result in a huge savings over the Guest Protection Plan and ensure you’d have adequate protection for your trip. The savings you’d receive could instead be used towards expenses on your trip, such as dining, shopping, tours – or even a new trip entirely! Overall, we rate Regent’s insurance a 6 out of 10 .

Will I Save by Purchasing Directly Through the Insurer?

No, all travel insurance premium rates are filed in each state and the prices cannot be lower or higher than those filed. So, TravelDefenders can guarantee you will not find lower rates for the products offered on our website.

Luxury cruise line selling world cruise suite for $1.7 million

C ruise vacations cover a range of budgets, with some bargain jaunts costing a few hundred dollars, while more upscale, longer voyages lay on more perks to justify the big expense.

But a new offering by luxury operator Regent Seven Seas Cruises raises the price tag to eye-watering levels, with a suite on an upcoming 140-day world voyage costing $1.7 million.

The cruise line is pitching this 2027 voyage as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” on board its Seven Seas Splendor liner. Over 20 weeks, this cruise ship will visit 71 ports, including stopovers in Bali, Sydney and Mumbai.

Andrea DeMarco, president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, told CNN Travel the cruise line has seen a “fantastic response” since announcing the voyage earlier this week, and that there’s been “strong interest” among prospective passengers in the $1.7 million Regent Suite.

Whatever room guests opt for, there are steep costs involved, with the most affordable room on board starting at $91,499 per guest. Meanwhile, the 4,443 square feet Regent Suite is designed for two people, so that high price tag works out as $839,999 per guest.

Prospective passengers willing to splash that kind of cash get what DeMarco calls a “palatial” apartment in which to ride out the world cruise – think original Picasso art on the wall, 14th-deck ocean views and a grand piano.

The heady price also includes first class air tickets for cruise-associated domestic US flights, and business class tickets for all international flights. Plus, Regent Suite guests have access to a variety of perks including a personal tour guide at each destination, in-suite spa services, an on-call butler and personalized stationery for writing dispatches home.

The two-bedroom suite is also kitted out with a vast living room, three walk-in closets and an in-suite spa with a sauna, steam room and jetted tub.

Regent Seven Seas’ 2027 world cruise officially opens for reservations on April 10, 2024, but prospective guests have been able to preregister since Wednesday.

Onboard decadence

Whether guests opt for the Regent Suite or not, prospective Regent Seven Seas Cruises travelers should expect onboard decadence.

The Seven Seas Splendor ship hosts an art collection worth $5 million, including two works by Joan Miró, the aforementioned Picasso hanging in the Regent Suite, and another Picasso adorning the walls of the onboard steakhouse.

Speaking of food, the cruise line’s pledged to carry 13,000 pounds of lobster, 14,000 pounds of filet mignon, 3,600 pounds of smoked salmon, 150 pounds pounds of caviar and 14,000 bottles of champagne for its 2027 world cruise.

Flights, excursions and alcohol are included in all ticket prices. And every suite has a private balcony for travelers to enjoy.

Popularity of world cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, is one of several cruise lines that operate annual around-the-world cruises. Every world cruise comes with a pretty steep price tag, with Regent Seven Seas’ offerings at the priciest end of the spectrum.

Cruise line president DeMarco told CNN Travel that the fact Regent Seven Seas’ world cruise is “truly all-inclusive” means there’s “value” associated with these high costs.

The cruise line is currently operating a sold-out 2024 world cruise on board its Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship, while its 2025 world cruise also sold out in what Regent Seven Seas’ claimed was “record time .” The cruise line’s 2026 world voyage still has suites available at time of writing.

Regent Seven Seas’ announcement comes at a time of high interest in world cruises. Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise, currently circumnavigating the world’s oceans, unexpectedly captured the internet’s imagination earlier this year , with passengers on board documenting their experience via viral TikTok videos.

Regent Cruises’ Luxury 24hr Aussie & NZ Event!

The Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre x RSSC

Marking the finale of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ ‘ Upgrade Your Horizon’  campaign, the world’s leading luxury ocean cruise line treated eight of its high-achieving travel advisors to the line’s prestigious  24 Hours of Luxury  experience in Melbourne this week.

This lavish event saw Regent’s guests enjoying accommodation at luxury Melbourne boutique hotel, The Royce Hotel and a welcome champagne brunch. Guests enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre, before heading to an intimate private dinner inside the iconic Arts Centre Melbourne, followed by the closing night performance of the acclaimed “ Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”  production, performed by The Australian Ballet.

The highlight of the initiative saw Lisa Pile, Vice President Sales & General Manager for Asia Pacific, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, award Amanda Dwyer of Main Beach Travel with an exquisite one-of-a-kind Fabergé Pendant, worth more than $14,000.  The Heritage Yelagin Yellow Gold Diamond & Red Guilloché Enamel Petite Egg Pendant features eleven dazzling round white diamonds.

The prize was part of Regent’s most luxurious trade booking incentive to date, embracing the luxury cruise line’s global partnership with renowned jewellery house, Maison Fabergé. It complements Journey in Jewels , the Fabergé egg which now resides as part of the priceless art collection on board  Seven Seas Grandeur.

To win this beautiful pendant, Australian and New Zealand travel advisors were required to make the highest number of new deposited bookings on applicable  Upgrade Your Horizon  sailings, from 3 January to 29 February, 2024.

Commenting on the initiative Lisa Pile, Vice President Sales & General Manager Asia Pacific, Regent Seven Seas Cruises commented, “Our trade partners are crucial to the success of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and we’re always looking to give back and show appreciation to our loyal industry ambassadors.

“Our advisor incentive generated tremendous support for Regent during the incentive period, and we are thrilled to recognise Mandy Dwyer of Main Beach Travel with the stunning Fabergé Pendant, for her outstanding success.”

Adding to Lisa’s comments, Mandy Dwyer said, “We really value our relationship with Regent Seven Seas Cruises, so to win the coveted Fabergé pendant is a huge honour and recognition for myself and my entire team for all their dedication and hard work. Selling a fabulous 6-star product like Regent is a privilege, and this would not be possible without the support of the entire Regent sales team.

Hosting the luxurious 24-hour experience was Lisa Pile, Vice President Sales & General Manager Asia Pacific; Elsa McLean, Senior Business Development Manager AU; Scott Graham, Business Development Manager NSW/ACT/WA and Jodie Hart, PR & Partnerships Manager Asia Pacific, with travel advisors in attendance including:

Cool Cruiser

We are on the Sept 26th cruise from Athens to Rome.  This will be our first cruise as we gphave always been independent travelers in Europe etc.  On all of our trips we have never taken travel insurance.  Could use some help deciding if we want/need to take it for this cruise.

Thank you for any help.

We pay for insurance on every cruise since we're old enough to have something happen to one of us that could cause us to cancel (we're both mid 60's). If you can afford to forfeit the cruise cost if you are unable to take the cruise under one of the circumstances covered by the insurance, then you should be fine without insurance. If it's the cruise line that needs to cancel for some reason, then they should make amends whether or not you have travel insurance.

A lot depends on you, your age, health and ho0w much risk you want to take.  We have always taken insurance out once I turned 65.  Every time the cruise is over and we're home I say why, except for the 2 times we had to cancel the cruise.  Once one of landed in the hospital the day before the ship sailed.  Each time we needed it I was happy we purchased the insurance, now we consider the cost as part of the cruise.  Now we don't worry if something happens during the cruise because we're covered.

If for some reason you don't buy it, don't except the cruise line to let you rebook another cruise at a later date--it's not going to happen.  Just my opinion.

There is a forum here on CC for discussions on travel insurance, here =>  https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/499-cruisetravel-insurance/

Because of the potential of losing your entire cruise cost in the event of a last minute cancellation, many people do in fact obtain travel insurance.  It's an individual decision.  Over on the Cruise Travel Insurance forum, often you'll receive advice to check out one of the travel insurance brokers (insuremytrip.com, tripinsurancestore.com, squaremouth.com, etc.) for options.  It's a good place to start.

To me, losing the cost of a cruise is only one component.  If you can absorb that loss and are fine with absorbing it, then cancellation/interruption insurance may not be a high priority.  This part gets quite expensive as you, shall we say, "mature."

But evacuation/repatriation insurance is a high priority for us.  Depending on where you are when you have to be evacuated or your your remains have to be repatriated, it could cost $100,000 to $250,000.  Such insurance normally comes with medical insurance which you may or may not need depending on you own insurance, but in any event, this component by itself is relatively inexpensive.

We began buying trip insurance for the WC2017, and have continued ever since. We do not buy the insurance through Regent. We have used Steve Dasseos at tripinsurancestore.com. He is very helpful and knowledgeable, and yes, we have needed to file claims. These were dealt with quickly (twice) and sort-of quickly (once), but in all 3 cases, we received checks in the amounts we had asked for.

We have always purchased trip insurance, but in the last few years we have not purchased it because we got a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card which includes travel insurance. Pre-existing conditions are not covered but you get $10,000 per person coverage so long as you put some portion of the cruise on the credit card.

Yes, we've got a Chase SR card as well.  There're great!

However, we all are going to have keep watch for potential downgrades in the benefits.  I just read the other day that apparently Citi is reducing some travel coverage which comes with their cards.

Link to a thread on this change from Citi.

The blog post has some thoughts on insurance provided by Chase.

Thanks

I did not realize that Sapphire Card does not cover you if they are pre existing conditions causing the cancellation.  Is that correct?

Hey - Mrs Machotspur and I are with you on this cruise on the Voyager ! May see you around !

I am thinking you are from the US, however for any readers who are not, the US prominence of the Regent board means that some of the posts regarding travel insurance are potentially unintentionally misleading. A very different structure of the insurance market in the UK & Australia for example.

They do not cover pre-existing health issues.

And yes, the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card is in the U.S. and would not apply to other countries.

Thanks Carol.

Thank you everyone for information regarding travel insurance.

We hope to meet you and Mrs. Machotspur on the cruise!  You are correct we live in the US.  Laguna Niguel, California.  You live in a beautiful spot...The Cotswolds!

If you are on Medicare in the U.S. health coverage does not extend beyond the states.  Some supplemental policies include a relatively small amount of international health coverage.  Each is different.  We purchase our trip insurance thru mytripinsurancestore.com and Steve.  His company brokers several different companies.  Very helpful and knowledgeable.  We also purchase a Medjet annual policy for emergency medical evacuations for any place more than 150 miles from our home.  My husband is 75 and I am 63.  When we were younger we did not purchase travel insurance but quite frankly I'm not sure we were aware of it.

We are both 66 and up until we were 60, never traveled with insurance.  We had a scare twice when traveling without insurance.  In 2006 my wife was rushed to a hospital in France.  The other time, a storm in Dallas damaged most of AA’s planes the day we were to fly and flights were canceled.  We got a flight out the day of the cruise and arrived at the terminal in FLL just minutes before the cut off.

On our last cruise on Seabourn TA Cruise I came down with severe Bronchitis and the ships doctor bill came to $759.  I hadn’t made my deductible with UHC, but my travel insurance covered it all.
