A Hudson Valley wine tour to celebrate a friend's landmark birthday was perfect! Hudson Valley Bucket list did an outstanding job coordinating the day from transport and an itinerary of beautiful wineries to a magazine photo worthy picnic lunch orchestrated by an on-site host. Our group of 12 were treated like special guests everywhere we went and we were wowed by the friendly, welcoming reception at each stop and the delicious wines we were able to taste. HVBL made planning this event easy and the day memorable
Celebrating a friend's landmark birthday with a wine tour.
The group at Hudson Valley Bucket List blew me away! Becky was absolutely wonderful in coordinating an afternoon of vineyard tours for a bachelorette party that I was planning. It completely took the heavy lifting out of the day, and it was nothing less than perfect. We all got to enjoy the event rather than worrying about transportation and reservations. The vineyards chosen were stunning and the pop up picnic brought our bride to tears (happy ones!). The whole Bucket List team was extremely professional and helpful throughout the day. I would book another event with them in a heart beat.
Becky and her team at Hudson Valley Bucket List organized such an amazing day of wine tours this past Saturday! I was part of a Bachelorette Party and it was such a wonderful and well organized day. Every element was so carefully thought out with every detail taken into consideration. From the moment we were greeted for pick up to consistent check-ins throughout the day we felt so well take care of. Benmarl was so beautiful with it's incredible views and Nostrano with the lovely picnic lunch could not have been more perfect. It was such a wonderful experience! I will definitely be recommending Hudson Valley Bucket List to anyone looking for a Hudson Valley tour and hope to to get back myself!
Becky was the best and the day couldn't have been planned any better! Best time ever !
We used Hudson Valley Bucket List for my bachelorette weekend and they were absolutely amazing. Caitlin was our guide for the day and she was incredible. We were taken to 3 different vineyards who all took great care of us. I've been on a ton of wine tours and this was by far the very best I've been on. The lunch was delicious and beautifully set up ahead of time before we got to the 2nd vineyard. It was a beautiful day. Thank you Hudson Valley Bucket List!
This was a 5-star experience from the minute we stepped off the train at Beacon station. Sean and Eric were waiting with granola outside the mini-coach bus which was a perfect and comfortable mode of transportation for the day. Eric is very knowledgeable of the area and the wineries we visited. The wineries were beautiful with great views. Our favorite was the first stop at Benmarl. Went spent about an hour at each stop and a visit to Saint Hubert's Lodge after the second winery. The food was fantastic and the hosts were very accommodating for dietary restrictions. After the third stop, Sean and Eric were happy to bring the guests on to downtown Beacon if they wished. Overall, this was a perfect Hudson Valley day!
We used Hudson Valley Bucket List for a company outing and loved every minute of it! Everything was hyper personalized, and nothing felt corporate/contrived in any way. They really listed to our needs and planned a special day accordingly. And when we needed to make changes or incorporate unique requests, they flexed immediately and went above and beyond to ensure no detail was left unturned. Thanks Becky & Robyn!

HUDSON VALLEY BUCKET LIST - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (with Photos)
2021 summer bucket list: What to see, where to go in the Hudson Valley
Remember all the things you couldn't do last summer? There were lots of "Plan B's," which resulted in some new summer rituals for many of us. Backyard games, daytrips and staycations with your pandemic pod became the norm.
This summer has the air of optimism. With restrictions lifted throughout New York state, many of the things we all look forward to have returned.
But this year, instead of falling back into the same old pre-pandemic routines, make this the summer to change things up. We have lots of options for you.
Here are a few to put on this season's bucket list:
Go to an air show
The New York International Air Show, Aug. 28-29
For the second year in a row, the show will be held at the Orange County Airport in Montgomery. Among the lineup will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as headliners featuring the U.S. Air Force 22 Raptor Demo Team, the West Point Parachute Team and more. For more information, go to airshowny.com.
Old Rhinebeck Aerodome, beginning June 19
On weekends, you can check out "History of Flight," which highlights the Pioneer era before WWI, a WWI show teaser, and the Golden Age of Aviation in the ’20s and ’30s. Sundays is the Sunday: WWI Air Show in which features a hero, a heroine and the villainous Black Baron of Rhinebeck. The supporting cast includes many antique automobiles. Shows take place weekends. Go to oldrhinebeck.org/airshows for times, tickets and more info. 9 Norton Road, Red Hook.

Head to a county fair
Orange County Fair, July 15-Aug. 1: The Orange County Fair will return July 15 through Aug. 1 with new rides and plenty of entertainment including Monster Trucks, Gator Boys Show, Extreme Jousting, pig races, music and more. For tickets and times, visit orangecountyfair.com .
Ulster County Fair, Aug. 3-8: The Ulster County Fair returns Aug. 3-8, bringing their previously scheduled concerts from 2020, rides and plenty of entertainment with free parking. For more information visit ulstercountyfair.com .
Dutchess County Fair, Aug. 24-29: The Dutchess County Fair might be smaller this year, but there will still be excellent festival foods, contests and more. Be sure to stop by the agricultural and 4-H exhibits — there’s nothing cuter than watching young children pamper and prep their animals for showtime. Dutchess County Fairgrounds, 6550 Springbrook Ave., Rhinebeck; 845-876-4000; visit dutchessfair.com
Walk over the Hudson River
There are lots of places to make a crossing, but these three offer interesting options on either end of the bridge:
The Walkway Over the Hudson : This former railway bridge spans the Hudson between the City of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County on the east and the Town of Lloyd, Highland, in Ulster County on the west. There are two entrances to the park in the City of Poughkeepsie: 61 Parker Ave. (paved street-level access) and 130 Washington St. (40-step stairway direct to bridge entrance). On the west side of the park there is one entrance: 87 Haviland Road, Highland. Or use any of the Dutchess Rail Trail or Hudson Valley Rail Trail trailheads to access the Walkway by bicycle. Call 845-834-2867; visit walkway.org
Skywalk: The pedestrian path is on the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and connects the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Greene County and Olana State Historic Site in Columbia County, directly across the bridge from each other. Cole was the founder of the Site.River School of landscape painting. His student, Frederic Church, achieved great success as a “second generation” painter in the movement.
There is a visitor’s parking lot in the roundabout on the east side of the bridge; on the west side, there is parking in the lot next to the administration building. Both historic sites also have parking available at their properties. Info: For more info: nysba.ny.gov .
George Clinton Kingston-Rhineclff Bridge: The pedestrian path opened in 2019 and is now part of New York's Empire State Trail, a continuous 750-mile route spanning the state from New York City to Canada. Check the website for hours; some times slots require advance registration for free tickets. littleisland.org.

Thacher State Park, Albany Photo courtesy of Discover Albany
We asked tourism directors: what are the most popular sites in your county these were among the top of the heap., john boyd thacher state park.
With 2,155 acres, Thacher State Park offers nature aplenty — from limestone cliffs and woodlands to open fields, capped off with expansive views of the Hudson Valley, Adirondacks and Green Mountains. Much of the Helderberg Escarpment — one of the world’s top fossil-bearing formations, also lies within the park. Spend the day hiking on some of the 25+ miles of trails (including the noted Indian Ladder Trail), at the WildPlay Adventure Courses (with 15 ziplines, 60 aerial games, and a 40-foot drop), picnicking, or playing ball (there are volleyball courts and baseball fields). Too much to do in one day? No worries, there’s a campground.

Olana State Historic Site
The main focal point of the estate of 19th century landscape painter Frederic Church is the main house, a villa with eye-catching Victorian/Persian/Moorish architecture. Church worked with architect Calvert Vaux (co-designer of NYC’s Central Park) to create the renowned residence and 250-acre landscaped grounds. Olana is one of the few intact artists’ estates in the nation; it’s preserved mostly as it was in the 1890s, complete with works by Church and other top painters. Lectures, exhibits and educational programs also help the estate draw about 170,000 visitors a year.

Hunter mountain.
With top-notch skiing on three mountains — plus lodging, dining, and apres-ski fun, Hunter draws about 225,000 visitors each winter. Warm weather lures folks for hiking — or if you’d rather be transported to the top, the Scenic Skyride whisks visitors to the 3,200-ft. summit. Hunter is also home to the New York Zipline Adventure Tour, the longest and highest ride of its kind in North America. Music, food, and beverage fests are another big attraction: these include the TrailBlazer Country Music and Camping Festival; and TAP New York, featuring many of the world’s best beers, along with contests rating the Valley’s top craft breweries. Another notable gathering: Hunter’s annual Oktoberfest, with food, beer, and live music, all amid spectacular autumn foliage.

Boscobel house & gardens.
The “house” at this historic site is a neoclassical mansion turned nonprofit historic-house museum, which contains a fine collection of decorative arts from the Federal period. The “gardens” are part of the site’s 68 acres of gorgeous grounds overlooking the Hudson River. This riverside gem is a wonderful place to see a sunset; picnic; attend an event, exhibition, or program (their children’s programming is especially good). Governor mario m. cuomo bridge bike and pedestrian path.
At 3.6 miles, this path on the bridge connecting Westchester and Rockland counties is longest shared pedestrian/bike path in the nation. And perhaps one of the most popular: it drew more than 250,000 bike riders and pedestrians in its inaugural season alone. The 12-ft.-wide walkway — with six scenic overlooks that contain seats for resting and savoring the view — make the crowds manageable, but early or late visits are recommended during peak seasons. Dubbed by some “The Stonehenge of North America,” Opus 40 contains 6.5 acres of beguiling earthwork sculptures created by the late local artist Harvey Fite more than 40 years. The unique outdoor art space is a testament to Fite’s vision, as well as a lovely natural setting — the property includes more than 50 acres of meadows and woods, plus bluestone quarries where Fite sourced stone for his creations. Untermyer gardens.
This 43-acre display of flowers, plants, and lovely landscaping overlooking the Hudson River was once part of an estate owned by Samuel Untermyer, a notable New York lawyer who was known in the 1930s as “Hitler’s biggest foe.” His intent was to build “the finest garden in the world.” The lush Persian-style gardens were designed in 1916 by Beaux-Arts architect William Welles Bosworth, and in their heyday contained 150 acres of flowers maintained by 60 gardeners. Highlights of today’s Gardens include the Walled Garden (based on the Garden of Eden), the Temple of Love (where John Lennon was photographed by rock and roll photographer Bob Gruen in 1975), and the tallest monolithic columns in the Western Hemisphere. The Untermyer Gardens Conservancy, along with the City of Yonkers, continues to renew the site, and the nonprofit offers public events such as guided tours, lectures, and concerts.
