Alabama Extend 50th Anniversary Tour With Charlie Daniels, Exile

By Stephen L. Betts

Stephen L. Betts

Since 1969, pioneering country group Alabama have been delivering an influential brand of high-energy performances that have culminated in numerous Entertainer of the Year honors and membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Now, the trio of Randy Owen, Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry have added nearly 30 additional stops on their current 50th Anniversary Tour, with shows just announced in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Bangor, Maine; Tallahassee, Florida; and Ottawa.

In addition to the Charlie Daniels Band, others appearing on the tour include the Marshall Tucker Band, John Anderson, Restless Heart, Exile, John Michael Montgomery, Scotty McCreery and Canadian artist Charlie Major. A date with the Beach Boys is also slated to be announced.

“We are very fortunate to have made many friends over the last 50 years,” bass player-vocalist Teddy Gentry said in a statement. “On this tour, we decided to ask some of them to come along and play with us. We have the best of the best. It’s a lot of fun to hang out and watch our special guests every night.”

Alabama launched their first Farewell Tour in 2002, which ran for two years, after which the members recorded solo projects, playing together again in 2005 to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims. Lead singer Randy Owen battled prostate cancer in 2010 and singer-guitarist Jeff Cook was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017. By that time, they had reunited, without drummer Mark Herndon, for two lengthy tours and the release of Southern Drawl, their first new album in 14 years.

ALABAMA's 50th Anniversary Tour with special guests Exile

alabama tour set list

It's been 50 years since Jeff Cook, Teddy Gentry and Randy Owen left the cotton farms of Fort Payne, Alabama, to spend the summer playing music in a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, bar called The Bowery. From humble beginnings picking cotton in the fields to international stars, ALABAMA went on to sell 80 million albums and change the face and sound of country music.

Exile formed in 1963 looking to play small clubs in Richmond, KY, but managed to top both the pop and country charts during their more than 50 year-long career. Their most successful hit, "Kiss You All Over" spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard's pop chart in 1978. In the early 1980's, Exile started to focus on country music. During their run on the country charts Exile has successfully had ten No. 1 singles and many more top 20's. The band will also be releasing two new recording projects in 2018 featuring the newest as well as the greatest of Exile. The five original members of the band reformed in 2008 and continue to tour today.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Tour: The Full 22-Song Setlist From Opening Night

Olivia Rodrigo performs onstage for the kick off of GUTS World Tour at Acrisure Arena on February 23, 2024 in Palm Springs, California.

The opening night performance of Olivia Rodrigo ‘s Guts Tour — which premiered Friday night in Palm Springs — is on the record books, and fans eager to know if their favorites made the setlist now have some idea what to expect as the tour winds its way through the U.S. and Europe for the next six months.

To cut to the chase: If you’re a Rodrigo fan and you have a favorite song from either of her albums, even one of the lesser-talked-about non-singles, there’s a better than 95% chance it’s included on this tour.

(For Variety ‘s full review of the Acrisure Arena tour opening, click here .)

Although Rodrigo did wear an “I’m Just a Girl” T-shirt for the encore, that No Doubt song was not included in the show, as it was on many of the concerts on her 2022 trek. It’s clear that she feels the covers she did on her debut tour were a sort of Hamburger Helper to help flesh out a set that was based on a 35-minute freshman album. But now she’s got enough original material to fill a 95-minute set, and she was eager to play almost all of it live. In fact, she played all 12 of the songs on the standard edition of “Guts,” plus that bonus track as a 13th number. As for “Sour,” Rodrigo included nine of its 11 songs in the set (omitting only “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” and “Hope Ur OK”).

Another difference from the 2022 tour: the inclusion of eight dancers, who sometimes indulged in choreography that was seen in overhead camera views, but often disappeared from the stage during either the most intimate or most hard-rocking numbers.

Rodrigo was in an ebullient mood at the end of the 95 minutes, climbing down from one of the two ramps that jutted out into the GA area to make physical contact with the fans gathered around the ramp for a couple of minutes after the performance ended.

Speculation about the content of the set had been a trending topic on X (formerly Twitter) all day leading up to the performance, reflecting the Guts Tour’s status as one of 2024’s hottest tickets.

Rodrigo opened the tour Friday night in the same region of the country where she’ll wrap it up: in her native Southern California. Friday’s show was at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, a venue that many California concertgoers are still encountering for the first time, since it only opened 14 months ago and many L.A. music fans hadn’t yet made the trek out to the desert to check out the region’s newest large-scale facility. The tour will come back around and wrap up with four shows at the Kia Forum Aug. 14-17.

Chappell Roan was the opening act Friday night, as she will be for all of Rodrigo’s tour dates through April 2, at which point the Breeders will take over for a few dates, followed by Remi Wolf and PinkPantheress.

Here is the full setlist for Rodrigo’s opening night at Acrisure Arena:

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's Son Rocky Makes Sweet Cameo in Blink-182 Rocker's Tour Post

The couple brought their three-month-old son Rocky Thirteen on tour with Blink-182 in Australia last month

Travis Barker/Instagram

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker ’s baby boy Rocky Thirteen is rocking out with his parents!

On Saturday, the couple’s three-month-old son Rocky made a cameo in dad Barker's Instagram post marking the end of his tour with Blink-182 in Australia and New Zealand.

In the first photo in the rocker's carousel of images, Rocky’s tiny foot rested on Barker's drum, beside a pair of drumsticks. The baby boy appeared to be sporting comfy-looking tan pants as he got a feel for his dad's instrument.

“Tour was over, we’d survived,” Barker wrote in the caption.

Kardashian, 44, joined her husband on tour in Australia with the kids, and also made an appearance in the carousel post as she was snapped with Travis standing behind a board with a bride and groom illustrated on it as they poked their heads out, during a day out on a brief break from the tour.

Barker was also joined by his bandmates Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge onstage and drumming away while performing in Australia. A close-up shot of the drummer holding his drumsticks was also shown.

Baby Rocky seemed to make a possible second cameo in another photo shared by Travis alongside his celebratory end-of-tour post on his Instagram Story on Saturday.

In the photo, the top of what appeared to be Rocky’s stroller poked out from behind Travis as he stood in front of a mirror snapping away at the tour setlist that was posted on top of it. His wife was also seen in the background sitting next to her son's stroller.

“Last show tonight,” Barker began in the caption. “Thank you for an amazing tour. Thank you to our amazing crew. Thank you to our amazing fans ❤️.”

Kardashian and Barker welcomed their first child, son Rocky on Nov. 1, 2023. The Lemme founder also shares sons Mason , 14, and Reign , 9, and daughter Penelope , 11, with ex Scott Disick . Barker, meanwhile, is father to daughter Alabama Luella , 17, and son Landon Asher , 19, and stepdad to Atiana De La Hoya , 24, shared with ex-wife Shanna Moakler .

Travis concluded the Australian leg of his tour with Blink-182 in Melbourne on Feb. 29. The band performed at their next tour stop in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday.

Kardashian posted backstage footage from the Blink-182 concert on Saturday, revealing she had also joined her husband Travis on tour in New Zealand. In the Instagram Story video, Kourtney filmed herself walking up to the side of the stage as she watched the drummer perform with the band in Auckland’s Spark Arena.

Blink-182 were scheduled to perform in Christchurch, New Zealand on Sunday however canceled the gig two weeks prior, due to “unanticipated logistical issues outside of the band's control," according to the band’s statement, per NZ Herald .

Olivia Rodrigo's 'GUTS' World Tour set list consists of 22 songs.

Olivia Changed A Lyric In 1 Of Her Biggest Songs For Her GUTS Tour

Yes, you heard that verse right.

Olivia Rodrigo isn’t just an “ All-American B*tch ” anymore — she’s going international. On her GUTS World Tour, the pop star is bringing her entire discography to life, performing nearly the entirety of her albums SOUR and GUTS live. And there’s also an unreleased bonus track that made its way onto the set list.

The GUTS World Tour kicked off on Feb. 23 at Thousand Palms in California, and it will continue all throughout the spring and summer until it ends on Aug. 17 in Inglewood, CA. In that time, Rodrigo will tour the U.S. and Canada, along with headlining international dates across Europe and the U.K.

Fans hotly anticipated the opening night of the tour to see what songs would make the cut, and it turns out, pretty much every Rodrigo song was featured in the lineup. Although the set list very well could change over the course of the six-month run, so far, only two of Rodrigo’s releases are excluded from the concert: “ 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back ,” and “Hope Ur Ok” from SOUR .

While those two songs may be missing, the set list does include an extra treat. Rodrigo performs her GUTS hidden track “Obsessed” on the tour. That song has only been available on special limited-edition GUTS vinyls, so only the real superfans knew about it prior to this tour.

Oh, and there’s another surprise for fans as well. Concertgoers noticed that Rodrigo has been changing a key lyric when performing “Brutal.” Instead of singing, “I only have two real friends” in the single’s second verse, Rodrigo has been singing, “ I only have three real friends ” while on tour. Fans think the updated friend list is a shoutout to her besties Conan Gray, Iris Apatow, and Madison Hu — the three people she cited as her best friends during her 2022 Grammys acceptance speech .

Check out the full GUTS World Tour set list below:

  • "Bad Idea Right?"
  • "Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl"
  • "Vampire"
  • "Traitor"
  • "Drivers License"
  • "Teenage Dream"
  • "Pretty Isn't Pretty"
  • "Love Is Embarrassing"
  • "Making the Bed"
  • "Logical"
  • "Enough for You"

  • "Deja Vu"
  • "The Grudge"
  • "Brutal"
  • "Obsessed"
  • "All-American B*tch"
  • "Good 4 U"
  • "Get Him Back!"

Olivia Rodrigo's 'GUTS' World Tour set list consists of 22 songs.

But the song selection is only part of the spectacle. The show also consists of some awe-inspiring staging moments, like when Rodrigo sits on a giant purple crescent moon to sing “Logical” and “Enough for You,” while floating above the crowd.

The concert’s bombastic final two songs serve as encore performances, as Rodrigo bursts back onto stage with a megaphone to belt “ Good 4 U, ” and then closes the show with a blast of confetti at the end of “Get Him Back!”
