Santa visits returning to Fairview Park mall

Ho, ho, ho! After a year away, a holiday tradition is coming back this season.

In-person Santa visits will be happening at Fairview Park mall in Kitchener beginning November 14 to December 24.

They will take place at Hudson's Bay Court and photo packages will be available. 

Lilian Stojanoski, with CF Fairview Park said, “This holiday season, we're looking forward to helping Canadians discover the magic of the season and of course, with safety in mind. We want to bring the community together in a safe and spirited way.”

Health and safety measures will be in place for the event.

“Santa's safety is very important to us so Santa and all his helpers are vaccinated, and everyone visiting Santa's cabin is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing,” said Stojanoski.

Children will not be able to sit on or near Santa. 

Guests will need to sanitize their hands and are being asked to refrain from eating or drinking while inside the Santa experience.

Staff will also sanitize the set between each visit. 

Stajonoski added that proof of vaccination will not be required for visitor's to Santa's cabin as of now, and local and provincial regulations will continue to be followed if anything changes.

Anyone who wants to take part in the in-person Santa visits will need to make a reservation online .

Tickets and booking are available now. 

There will be a $5 fee for each booking and the fees will be donated to Grand River Hospital Foundation and Autism Speaks Canada.

Cadillac Fairview plans to match these donations. 

People who would like a Santa experience can still get one without going to the mall. 

Stojanoski said, “For those who prefer Santa experience from the comfort of their own homes, we are pleased to offer again virtual storytime with Santa. Sessions will be December 4th and 18th.”

She added the virtual experience was very popular last year and was fully booked. 

The storytime sessions will be streamed live on Fairview Park Mall's Facebook page.

Here is a summary of the 10 best places to see Santa in Toronto this charismas and to take your LO’ for a traditional photo with Santa.

I’m pretty sure the lines up will be crazy, so come prepared with snacks and toys. In some of the places I mention below, you can book your time and avoid the lineup, which I believe will be a good idea.

CHRISTMAS EVENTS WITH SANTA VISITS

There’s an entire parade dedicated to Santa here and plenty of opportunities to capture a spontaneous moment with St. Nick. Stick around after the parade to peruse local wares at the gift market and keep an eye out for Santa dancing to the live music. VITRUVIAN LIGHTS (Addison)

November 26, December 4 and December 11 from 6 to 10 p.m.

This North Texas corridor positively sparkles with more than 1.5 million LED lights wrapped around hundreds of trees. Think of it as the perfect lighting for a Santa snap: Three special events at the park will include posed photos with Santa and his reindeer and photo ops with other holiday friends. Santa Claus is still coming to Southcentre Mall — but things will look different this year

Visits with santa kicked off today at a new set with enhanced sanitation protocols.

The COVID-19 pandemic has upended virtually every tradition in 2020, but Calgary's Southcentre Mall will keep at least one alive this holiday season — a visit from Santa Claus.

Of course, this year's Santa set at the mall will look a little bit different, with enhanced cleaning protocols, one-way traffic and mandatory hand sanitization all implemented.

"We've been thinking about everything that can make the experience safer, [so] people will feel good by coming to see Santa," said Alexandra Velosa, marketing manager for the mall.

Velosa said visitors should go online to Southcentre's website to book their appointments. 

This year, Santa is sitting in a shiny, red truck and will invite kids to climb aboard the truck to take a picture with him.

"So we'll just keep building memories during this time," Velosa said. "It's just a way to connect with the community."

Emily Tennant brought her child to see the Santa exhibit, adding she enjoys getting yearly photos during the holiday season.

"They're really good here … they have you standing six feet apart, everyone wearing masks," she said.

"I think it's worth it. Might as well be safe, and it's nice that we're still able to do it with the precautions."

While Santa will still visit Southcentre Mall, one of Canada's largest mall operators cancelled physical visits with Santa at 19 malls across Canada on Friday.

Cadillac Fairview Corporation Ltd. said Friday it is suspending all physical experiences with Santa. The corporation owns Market Mall and Chinook Mall in Calgary.

Cadillac Fairview will instead offer Santa storytime sessions in French and English on Facebook for families and will allow people to book one-on-one video chats with the jolly man from the North Pole.
