Pakistan Cricket Board in Lahore
28 March, 2021
Pakistan will become the first men’s international cricket side to play in Zimbabwe in the post-Covid-19 era when they announced the schedule of their two Test and three T20I series. The Pakistan side will arrive in Harare from Johannesburg on 17 April, where the five matches will take place from 21 April to 11 May with the T20Is to start at 1400 PST and the two Tests will commence at 1230 Pakistan Standard Time.
After the T20Is on 21, 23 and 25 April, Babar Azam’s side will play Zimbabwe in two Tests, the first of which will begin on 29 April. This will mark the first instance of the two sides facing off in the pinnacle format of the game since September 2013. This was also Pakistan’s last Test on Zimbabwean soil.
The second Test will commence on 7 May.
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Pakistan men’s cricket sides have toured England and New Zealand, besides hosting Zimbabwe and South Africa. Pakistan Shaheens also toured New Zealand alongside the men’s side, while the women’s sides visited South Africa and Zimbabwe, the tour that was curtailed due to suspension in flight operations. Next month, Pakistan U19 squad will tour Bangladesh for a four-day and five 50-over-side matches.
This underscores the Pakistan Cricket Board’s commitment to play an active role in ensuring that international cricket remains on track in these challenging and uncertain times.

Director – International Cricket, Zakir Khan: “The Pakistan Cricket Board has been at the forefront of the revival of international cricket in the post-Covid-19 world and the tour of Zimbabwe is another step in that direction. We have always maintained that cricket and Covid-19 can co-exist in a safe and secure environment, and we continue to demonstrate this to ensure the game develops and flourishes in these difficult and challenging times.
“The tour of our men’s side at the back of our women’s team first-ever visit of Zimbabwe is a testimony that the two boards – the PCB and Zimbabwe Cricket – enjoy excellent relations and are always ready to lend support to each other.
“Our cricket sides have always enjoyed visiting and playing cricket in Zimbabwe, and though our fans and followers will be unable to watch live-action, I am sure they will continue to support both the sides and their favourite cricketers like they have done since May 2020 through digital media.”
Pakistan enjoy 100 per cent win percentage against Zimbabwe in T20Is with victories in all 14 matches. Pakistan have won 10 of the 17 Tests against Zimbabwe with four ending in draw and three in wins for Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe last hosted an international series – a two-Test series against Sri Lanka – in January 2020.
The T20Is and Tests will count towards the ICC Team Rankings.

- Pakistan to host cricket tri-series after 20 years
ISLAMABAD, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said it would host a one-day international (ODI) triangular series for the first time in 20 years, with New Zealand and South Africa set to tour the country in February 2025.
A PCB statement revealed on Friday that the decision was made during a meeting between PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and his counterparts from South Africa and New Zealand in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
"The meeting unanimously decided to play the ODI Tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa in February 2025 in Pakistan," said the statement.
The PCB added that Pakistan had last hosted a tri-series in October 2004, with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe the opponents on that occasion.
Naqvi added that Pakistan is also looking forward to hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, saying it will be a great pleasure for Pakistan to host the top eight ODI teams on home soil.
International teams have long been reluctant to play in Pakistan due to security concerns. In 2002, New Zealand abandoned a Test series in the country after a suicide bomb attack outside their hotel.
In 2009, a bus carrying the Sri Lanka national team was fired upon by gunmen near Gaddafi Stadium in the city of Lahore, after which Pakistan did not play a Test series on home soil until 2019. Enditem

Zimbabwe vs Pakistan, 1st T20I - Live Cricket Score, Commentary
Just to reiterate: You take away Rizwan's last over carnage, and this match really could've been Zimbabwe's. But no, that's how cricket goes. Anyway, it's time we wrap up too. Until day after tomorrow, and the same wicket but hopefully better cricket, on behalf of us, ta ta!!
Babar Azam | Winning captain : It wasn't a convincing win. The conditions were different and the wicket was two-paced and the batsmen couldn't adjust to it. Hopefully we'll come back well. When you come from bouncy to low bounce wickets you need to adjust, and we need to work on it. Had there been a partnership with Rizwan, the total could have been better.
Mohammad Rizwan | MoM : They used the toss and the pitch well. It was difficult for the batsmen to come from bouncy tracks to the slower ones. The conditions in Zimbabwe are such that the ball doesn't come onto the bat. When wickets fall, like for example when Hafeez's wicket fell, I told the batsmen that 150 was a good score on this wicket.
Sean Williams | Losing captain : It is inexcusible to drop those many catches against a team like this. They got 20 runs too many, so we need to improve our small disciplines. I thought 130 was a good target to chase. The second partnership was sorely missing in our innings. Craig batted really well with a calf injury. The Pakistanis bowled really well at the death. The wicket played into our favour as well, winning the toss was crucial. We're back to the drawing board now.
Tinashe Kamunhukamwe: We didn't manage to get over the rope, but well done to the bowlers, and hopefully on the batting side we can have people who can take the team through. I think we didn't execute our plans from the last over, but until the 19th over we were good, and I think it was a gettable score and hopefully the batsmen can step it up next time. Going into the next game, we can avoid wickets in clusters and groups, and have partnerships, it'll be game on. Looking at our side, we have some young legs and we just have to push for those twos and challenge the fielders, and it's just the running between the wickets that has been quite good.
14:28 Local Time, 12:28 GMT, 17:58 IST: You didn't really expect Zimbabwe to pull this one through, but they really tried hard. And at one stage with Kamunhukamwe and Craig Ervine looking set, they were probably ahead too. But alas, Pakistan's spinners were a little too wily, and the Zimbabwean batting against them clueless. Qadir, despite getting hit in his first over, came back well, produced googly after googly that went unread, and picked up three wickets while he did that. Even Hafeez did a job in those middle-overs, slipping in a few quick ones, and before you knew, the asking rate was already at 12. Jongwe waited for the seamers to come back on, struck a few good ones at the death too, but it was all too little, too alone, too late. Stick around, the presentations are here ..
Haris Rauf to W Masakadza, 1 run, again, yorker, duh, squirted away through point, and 1-0 to Pakistan ..
Haris Rauf to Luke Jongwe, 1 run, top bowling this -- yorker after yorker after yorker. Jongwe has no chance as he clears his front leg, and can merely jam his bat down on it
Haris Rauf to W Masakadza, 1 run, full, into the legs, and it's only a clip round the corner. It's over ..
Haris Rauf to Luke Jongwe, 1 run, yorker, tailing back in sharply, and despite Jongwe swinging hard, he can only squeeze it towards point. That should be the game, officially
Haris Rauf to Luke Jongwe, 2 runs, yorker, jammed straight back down the ground, and once again, before long-on comes around, +2
Haris Rauf to Luke Jongwe, 2 runs, low full toss on the pads, whipped away into mid-wicket. +2
20 runs | 6 balls . Just to keep it interesting and alive, Jongwe has the strike ..
Mohammad Hasnain to W Masakadza, no run, quicker, going across off a back of a length now, beats Masakadza's cut for pace
Mohammad Hasnain to W Masakadza, no run, short, going across. Masakadza pulls out of his shot in the hope of a wide, but nope, it's legal
Mohammad Hasnain to Luke Jongwe, 1 run, dropped . Now, now. Jongwe outside-halves this cut, and Haris Rauf messes up a very simple chance at third man
Mohammad Hasnain to Luke Jongwe, SIX , here's some oxygen .. a full one in the slot, and Jongwe slicing it flat and powerfully over long-off
Mohammad Hasnain to Luke Jongwe, no run, shorter, wider, slower, foxing Jongwe's attempted upper cut
Mohammad Hasnain to Luke Jongwe, wide , no run, similar stuff -- a backing away, a swing, a miss and Hasnain going wider outside off.
Mohammad Hasnain to Luke Jongwe, no run, gives himself room. But Hasnain sees it and goes wider. Yea, swing and a miss

Pakistan to host first tri-series after 20 years ahead of Champions Trophy 2025; New Zealand, South Africa to feature
The series was greenlit on the sidelines of an International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Dubai, according to Pakistan's board.
Pakistan's Cricket Board said on Friday it will host South Africa and New Zealand in a one-day international tri-series, the country's first tournament involving three nations after a gap of 20 years.
International cricket only fully returned to Pakistan in 2020, following attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009.
Pakistan was stripped of its right to co-host the World Cup two years later, with security concerns lingering in the aftermath of those attacks.
The country last hosted a tri-series in 2004, which involved Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Newly elected PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the tri-series will serve as a build-up to the eight-nation Champions Trophy, the first ICC event in the country since the 1996 World Cup.
"The tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand will be an exciting event and it is after a long time that Pakistan will host such a tournament," Naqvi said in the PCB release.
"The PCB is also looking forward to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which will be a great pleasure for Pakistan to host the top eight ODI teams on its soil."
Rawalpindi and Lahore to host 5 T20s against New Zealand next month
Pakistan will host New Zealand in a five-match Twenty20 series next month as part of its preparations for the T20 World Cup.
The Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday said Rawalpindi will host three games on April 18, 20 and 21 and the remaining two will be played at Lahore on April 25 and 27.
New Zealand will likely be missing several frontline players including Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson, who will be playing in the Indian Premier League.
New Zealand beat Pakistan 4-1 at home in Shaheen Shah Afridi’s debut Twenty20 international series as skipper earlier this year.
“This tour symbolizes the deep-rooted ties and mutual respect that define the relationship between our two cricketing nations,” Usman Wahla, the PCB’s director of international cricket, said.
“Our avid cricket fans and the people of Pakistan will welcome the New Zealand team again. We hope to have yet another competitive series which is a key part of our buildup to this year’s ICC T20 World Cup.”
