Alabama is a soft-rock/ bluegrass/ American country band from Fort Payne, Alabama. The lineup that the band held for most of its career consists of Mark Herndon, Jeff Cook, Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry.

Cousins Randy Owen (lead vocalist/ guitar), and Teddy Gentry (backing vocals/ bass) formed the band, and together they recruited their other cousin Jeff Cook (guitar/ fiddle/ keyboard) in 1969. In 1972 the band got a gig playing as the opening act for various other artists at Canyonland Theme Park, however it was not enough to make a living out of, so the three members pursued various other jobs, putting the band on the backburner.

In March 1973 the band decided to pursue music professionally and the trip moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and performed six nights a week at the Bowery. They also took out a loan in order to record and release their own album to sell at their shows, and to send out as demos to labels. In 1977 the band caught a break with GRT Records signing them, but when the label declared bankruptcy after releasing the one record in their contract, the band was also contractually forbidden to record with another label.

It wasn’t until 1979 when the band was able to self-record and release another album entitled “Alabama Band No. 3;” additionally, Mark Herndon stepped in as drummer to replace Rick Scott. They self-promoted their single “I Wanna Come Over” and eventually the band was able to grab the attention of Dallas based label, MDJ Records. Their second single “My House’s In Alabama” was extremely successful as well, reaching mainstream attention reaching the top 20. It also caught the attention of RCA records, with whom they signed a contract with in 1980.

While with RCA, Alabama had the luxury of creative freedom, and was able to tour extensively after the successful release of more singles. Their release of “Mountain Magic” in 1982 was found with HUGE success, going quadruple platinum with over 6 million copies sold, consequently launching the band into super stardom. By January 1986 the band had a number of hits, allowing RCA to release a Greatest Hits compilation.

Despite their albums still reaching gold and silver statuses, and selling millions of copies, the band’s popularity started to decline in the 1990s. Despite the decline, however, the band was still finding continued success with sales of their singles and shows. By May 2002 the band announced a farewell tour, collecting over $15 million in ticket sales alone.

Live reviews

There are many bands who have tried to make music that embodies the sense of a place. Whether it be the West coast of California, central New York or London's east end it is quite a feat to create a sound that sonically represents your surrounding. Alabama were clearly confident in doing this after taking their namesake from their home state way back in 1969.

It is fair to say that the bluegrass rock that the band creates really does seem to embody the oozing melting pot that is the deep south. Having enjoyed commercial and critical success during their heyday, the band continues to tour relentlessly so as to satisfy the huge demand to see the veterans.

Fans old and new gather to enjoy classics such as 'Tennessee River' and 'Song Of The South' performed in the anthemic manner of which is accustomed with Alabama. A wonderful sense of nostalgia prevails throughout and the band performs with skill and determination onstage encouraged by the baying masses. By the final singalong of 'Mountain Music' it is obvious Alabama could hope for better musical representation.

Alabama...no not Alabama Shakes, this is Alabama...just Alabama! But trust me ladies and gentlemen this classic band define Alabama so well. Formed in 1969 this American band are still rocking hard, who says grandads cant rock nowadays... It seems like you guys have been missing a bit of sing-a-long country music because these guys are bac touring again! They reel off some oldtime tunes which will get you into the Southern blues no problem! 'Song of the South' with its timeless guitar riff and sweet soothing vocals which anyone will sing to just 10 seconds of hearing it. Alabama rattle through their anthems with such ease, playing effortlessly it appears. Such feel good vibes from these country Gods, with material such as; 'Mountain Music' and lets not forget the heartbreaking 'American Pride'.

If you love American country music then you cant go wrong with Alabama! These oldies but goldies are worth witnessing live no doubt about it! I love blues music myself, but these guys are literaly swaying me to country music!

Fantastic Venue...little smaller than the big arenas so great seats no matter what. The show was absolutely amazing - they still rock after all these years! Full house and fun crowd ...what a great night! I will definitely be going back to Sioux Falls for more concerts. Even if it’s a 10 hour drive for us it was a true adventure! Would love to see Alabama again and again...we danced the entire show and was not left disappointed. They played all my favourites and more!

Enjoyable. The voice is weakening a bit. I think too much reacting with the crowd. I see it as filler so they can get their breath back. The song choice great and you can never doubt the strength of their legacy. If you are a true Alabama fan you loved it. If you are a music fan and not a loyalist it was just OK.

I saw Alabama in 1986 in Sacramento. They were fantastic. I have a pair of Randy Owens red wrist bands. I won't say how I got them!! It was all on the up and up. Alabama is one of the greatest country rock bands ever. Randy you are soooo easy on the eyes!!

Write your review of Alabama here.. The concert was outstanding. There is a reason Randy (great voice), Teddy (fantastic bassist), Jeff (talented musician) have lasted 40 years. ALABAMA is still a great band. No frills just great music. Thank you!!!

We so enjoyed seeing Alabama, they went all the way to make sure we all enjoyed the show. We have listened to Alabama's music for many years, and really hated it when they retired. We hope in the near future they will book more shows.

Outstanding show!!! Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook still have it after 40 years. Their harmonies are still rock solid. They truly love their music and their fans. No wonder they are legends.

Alabama announces additional 50th Anniversary Tour dates

Buddy Iahn

  • May 8, 2019

Iconic country band reveals nearly 30 new dates

Seven-time multi-platinum selling country group Alabama has added almost 30 new concert dates to their historic 50th Anniversary Tour. The band has revealed 28 additional arena and amphitheater shows as they continue their cross-country trek celebrating five decades of music.

Newly-announced tour stops include Grand Rapids, MI, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Bangor, ME, Charlotte, NC, Tallahassee, FL, Baltimore, MD, Madison, WI, Birmingham, AL, Columbia, SC, and more. The band will also travel north to Canada for concerts in Ottawa, Ontario and Oro-Medonte, Ontario.

“One of the most humbling things about this tour is that we are going all over North America playing some of our favorite arenas, cities and festivals with huge crowds showing up at our shows,” notes lead singer/rhythm guitarist Randy Owen.

Owen says the band is drawing three generations of fans to their concerts and touring in many cities they haven’t played in nearly 20 years. “Teddy, Jeff and I thank God every day when we walk on stage and share our songs and voices that He blessed us with,” he says.

Alabama has recruited The Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Beach Boys, John Anderson, Restless Heart, Exile, John Michael Montgomery, Scotty McCreery and Canadian artist Charlie Major to join them on select dates.

“We are very fortunate to have made many friends over the last 50 years,” adds bass player/vocalist Teddy Gentry. “On this tour, we decided to ask some of them to come along and play with us. We have the best of the best. It’s a lot of fun to hang out and watch our special guests every night.”

“Randy, Teddy and I have been overwhelmed by the support the fans have given us and especially me since my Parkinson’s diagnosis,” says lead guitarist/vocalist Jeff Cook. “The only reason for this is because we want our music to live on, and we love our fans. Thank you so much.”

In 1969, a trio of young musical cousins from Fort Payne, Alabama journeyed to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to play their music at a bar called The Bowery. It took Cook, Gentry and Owen several years of word-of-mouth and tip jars to earn the major label deal of which they’d been dreaming.

Alabama would go on to change the face of country music. Winning more than 200 industry awards, the Country Music Hall of Fame band is the most celebrated group in country music history. Tickets for newly-announced dates on sale now via thealabamaband.com .

Alabama Extend 50th Anniversary Tour With Charlie Daniels, Exile

By Stephen L. Betts

Stephen L. Betts

Since 1969, pioneering country group Alabama have been delivering an influential brand of high-energy performances that have culminated in numerous Entertainer of the Year honors and membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Now, the trio of Randy Owen, Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry have added nearly 30 additional stops on their current 50th Anniversary Tour, with shows just announced in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Bangor, Maine; Tallahassee, Florida; and Ottawa.

In addition to the Charlie Daniels Band, others appearing on the tour include the Marshall Tucker Band, John Anderson, Restless Heart, Exile, John Michael Montgomery, Scotty McCreery and Canadian artist Charlie Major. A date with the Beach Boys is also slated to be announced.

“We are very fortunate to have made many friends over the last 50 years,” bass player-vocalist Teddy Gentry said in a statement. “On this tour, we decided to ask some of them to come along and play with us. We have the best of the best. It’s a lot of fun to hang out and watch our special guests every night.”

Alabama launched their first Farewell Tour in 2002, which ran for two years, after which the members recorded solo projects, playing together again in 2005 to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims. Lead singer Randy Owen battled prostate cancer in 2010 and singer-guitarist Jeff Cook was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017. By that time, they had reunited, without drummer Mark Herndon, for two lengthy tours and the release of Southern Drawl, their first new album in 14 years.

Alabama’s Randy Owen on the Iconic Country Band’s 50th Anniversary Tour and Surviving the Pandemic

Alabama's Randy Owen talks about the band's 50th anniversary tour and returning to the road.

By Deborah Evans Price

When Alabama steps on stage tonight (July 2) to kick off a two-night stand at Bridgestone Arena, it will mark two historic moments — the launch of the iconic country band’s 50th anniversary tour, and the first full capacity concert at the Nashville venue since the pandemic started in March 2020.

In his only conversation about the tour, Alabama’s legendary lead vocalist/principal songwriter Randy Owen says the band’s concert being Bridgestone’s first full concert is news to him. “I didn’t know that,” he says via phone a few days before the show. “I live down here on Lookout Mountain [in Alabama] and what I’ve been doing this morning is planting sweet corn. I’ve got a garden. I raise vegetables.”

Trending on billboard.

His vegetable garden, wife Kelly and six grandchildren will have to share Owen with the rest of the country this year as Alabama’s long-delayed golden anniversary tour finally comes to fruition. Originally set for 2019, the tour was postponed when Owen, 71, began suffering from migraines and vertigo, and then last year it was a casualty of the COVID-19 shutdown.

The Country Music Hall of Fame members, who landed a staggering 33 No. 1s on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, have 25 dates scheduled through February 2022 with more to come. Martina McBride will open the Nashville shows with other support for various dates including Sara Evans, Travis Tritt, America and Tracy Lawrence . The first leg closes with a co-headlining date with the Beach Boys in Wichita, Kansas.

One artist not joining the tour is guitarist/fiddler Jeff Cook, who founded the group with his cousins, Owen and bassist Teddy Gentry. Cook was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2017. “Jeff is recently having more health issues from his Parkinson’s Disease that from time to time affect him and cause him not to be able to play guitar or sing,” Alabama’s longtime manager Tony Conway tells Billboard . “He would love to be on stage with his cousins and supports them 100% to carry on the Alabama legacy.”

Owen talked to Billboard about surviving the pandemic and 50 years in show business, and what fans can expect on the tour — and also previews upcoming projects, including one with Bob Marley’s family.

How is it going to feel being back on stage at Bridgestone Friday night?

It will be special like every show is special. I don’t know what’s going to happen. We kind of have a rough list of songs we’re going to do, but I may just call out something. I certainly don’t expect both shows to be alike.

How has your approach to performing changed over the years?

I take a little more time to elaborate on some of the songs, tell the folks how some of the songs came about and spend a little time just talking, not getting in a big hurry. I try to enjoy and savor every minute because you never know. I look at every show like I never expect to be back again. You’re not promised tomorrow. It’s a special time. I want the people to understand how much we appreciate them. I just love the looks on people’s faces, and I’m just thankful that they still remember the songs.

Alabama Postpones 50th Anniversary Tour Due to Singer Randy Owen's Health Issues

Are there any songs that you get tired of performing?

I don’t get tired of none of them. I thank God for every single one. The ones that I wrote, they help take care of my family, and my goal is to take care of the grandkids now. That’s why I do shows. I’m just a very thankful guy. It’s been interesting over the years. It might help some other people along the way to know that it’s not all peaches and cream and it’s not all roses. There’s some real tough parts, but there’s great parts too. Before I started with you, I was reading my mail. I still get mail and I’m very thankful for that. I was reading about a lady who got COVID. She was a nurse and when she was giving care, she got COVID and came very close to dying. They want me to send a birthday greeting, which I’m happy to do.

How did you weather COVID?

Me and my wife just basically stayed isolated, and then some folks called my daughter and said they had shots. So me and Kelly went and got our first shot, and then 20 something days later we got our second shot. We came through. I’ve done some charity things lately and have been around a lot of people, so I’m hoping my vaccine is protecting me — but this living in a bubble, it’s been so stressful. I was doing pretty good with it, until one of my buddies over in Mississippi died. He was a model person and when he went down, I really started really being careful about where I went and what I did. But so far me and Kelly have been blessed not to get it.

Do you expect the audience to be different because of COVID?

The thing that makes the audiences so special now is that we, as a people, we’ve all come through the worst time that I’ve ever seen in my lifetime and we have lived through it. The people who made it through, we’ve lived through that time and we’re ready to be entertained and entertain. We’re all thankful that we’re all meeting together at a venue to have a party.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t let the music business break you. It just broke me down several times.

How did you come back from those times?

A lot of self-preservation. I had one real severe fault and that is I give to a fault and that’s one thing that is a flaw in my personality. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but it’s almost killed me a couple of times.

Downtown Music Lands One-Song Deal for Alabama's 'Dixieland Delight'

How have you balanced touring and family over the years?

I made special effort. I missed out on a lot of shows. A lot of folks weren’t very pleased because I would not, when my son was playing football, I didn’t work on Friday nights. And when my daughter was playing sports, I missed very few of her events. I toured a lot, but I was very mindful of their events. My younger daughter went to championships in showing her cattle and I never missed any of her national shows. I missed a lot of stuff, but not stuff with my kids.

Do you have any new music in the works?

I’ve got a bunch of songs that I’ve written. I might do one of the new songs during one of nights up there. It’s called “I Don’t Want to See 2020 Again.”

I’m writing the music for the World Games in Birmingham (Ala.) in 2022 [with] Henry Panion. Henry and I have struck up an awesome friendship. Henry is a world-renowned conductor and composer [including arranging for Stevie Wonder] and he’s just turned into one of the dearest friends I could ever have. I’m so honored to be part of the opening ceremonies and closing ceremonies.

One of the songs is called “Hope for the Globe” and the other one is “In Alabama The Rainbows Never End.” It’s about inclusion. Over 100 countries will be represented. After that, me and Henry are going to probably do some things fireside chats with him conducting the orchestras. Bob Marley’s family has invited us to do a song on their tribute album and the song that we’re going to do is “Pass It On Down.” Then I’m doing a track on Wilson Pickett’s tribute album called “Don’t Let the Green Grass Fool You.”

Those are really things that are out in the future, but it’s all good positive stuff. I like to have as much positive as I can in my life.

Alabama Announce ‘Roll On II’ 2024 Tour Dates

O ver the past several years, the members of Alabama have weathered their fair share of health challenges and other logistical difficulties, keeping them from the stage. So they never take the opportunity to tour for granted — and they’re getting that chance once again in 2024.

On Thursday (March 21), the group announced a lineup of dates billed as the 2024 Roll On II North American Tour, a reprisal of their 2023 tour of the same name. It’s a nod to the band’s “Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler),” a hit from 1984, as well as a fitting name for a tour presented by Kenworth Trucking Company.

In a statement, frontman Randy Owen says fans who attend a show in 2024 can look forward to singing along to all their favorite Alabama hits.

“I look forward to singing ‘Mountain Music,’ ‘Tennessee River,’ ‘Feels So Right’ and so many more,” Owen relates in a statement. “It’s just a matter of getting up onstage and enjoying it. We can’t wait to see the fans who made it all possible.”

For many of the shows, the band will have some extra musical pals along to make the moment even more special. Diamond Rio , the Marshall Tucker Band, Jamey Johnson , Lee Greenwood and the Bellamy Brothers are all booked to perform on various dates on the tour.

In late 2023, Owen gave Taste of Country a positive update on his health , but he stopped short of committing to tour plans for 2024.

“I’m 73 years old. I just had my tests and everything, and everything came back really good. I had my flu shot. So I’m ready to go,” he said at that time, but added that the health setbacks he’s suffered in the past have left him cautious — and appreciative of every chance he gets to set foot onstage.

“I just never know. I enjoy every show and thank God I get to do one more show,” Owen added.

For ticketing information for Alabama’s upcoming tour dates, visit the band’s website . More dates are expected to be announced at a later time.

ALABAMA announces new tour with a stop in Atlanta on April 1, 2023

By The Peach Review®

the group alabama tour

Multi-platinum-selling country rock group ALABAMA has announced an all-new 2023 tour “ROLL ON 2 NORTH AMERICA.”  The tour will include a stop in Atlanta, Georgia, at the award-winning State Farm Arena on Saturday, April 1, 2023.  The show will feature a very special guest, The Marshall Tucker Band. This will mark the second “Roll On” Tour in the band’s 50+ year history since 1984.

Over 50 years ago, cousins Teddy Gentry, Randy Owen, and the late Jeff Cook left the cotton farms of Fort Payne, Alabama to spend the summer playing music in a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina bar called The Bowery. It’s a classic American tale of rags to riches. From humble beginnings picking cotton in the fields to international stars, ALABAMA went on to sell 80 million albums and change the face and sound of country music.

Five decades after starting the band, ALABAMA has charted 43 #1 singles, including 21 #1 singles in a row, and has won dozens of CMA, GRAMMY®, and ACM Awards. They are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame, and have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition, they are world-class philanthropists who have raised millions of dollars for various charities.

Ticket pre-sale starts on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022 (Code: MOUNTAINMUSIC). All tickets go on sale to the public on  Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022 , at 10 a.m. Visit  TheAlabamaband.com  or  Ticketmaster.com  for more info.

It’s the kind of story you read about in books and watch on the big screen at the movies. For the band ALABAMA, it’s not just a story; it’s their life. It is a classic American tale of rags to riches. From humble beginnings picking cotton in the fields to international stars that went on to sell 73 million albums while changing the face and sound of country music.

It's been over 40 years since Randy, Jeff and Teddy, left the cotton farms of Fort Payne, Alabama, to spend the summer playing in a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina bar called The Bowery. Having grown up working in the fields, the cousins were no strangers to hard work. They didn’t flinch when it took six long years of working for tips and living hand to mouth playing in the bar.

Of the early days and their humble beginnings, Jeff says, "I don't think we thought too far ahead. We were more concerned with paying our bills at the end of the week and playing music."

Finally, word of mouth earned the major label deal they'd been dreaming of. In 1980 the band broke through with their first Top 20 hit “My Home’s In Alabama.”

ALABAMA is the band that changed everything. They brought country music to the mainstream and from side stage to the main stage. ALABAMA introduced rock style guitars, lights, pyrotechnics and sounds to the country audience.

"We were renegades in sneakers and T-shirts," says Teddy. "We had long hair and played loud and some of the country folks resisted us for a while. But then of course they did accept us and then after that, our success made it lots easier for other bands to try it in country music," concluded Gentry. Bands benefitting from that breakthrough include Zac Brown Band, Florida Georgia Line and Eli Young Band.

They have also inspired many of today’s brightest country stars including Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan as well as pop and rock stars from Ed Sheeran to Jon Bon Jovi.

"I was part of a benefit concert at the Ryman," he says, "and I look over there's Jon Bon Jovi. He walked over and said hello and it turns out he’s a fan of our music."

ALABAMA’s reach goes far beyond their impact on other artists; their music is timeless and can be heard today as a part of every cover band’s set list in nearly every college town in America.

Not long ago, Teddy was witness to a scene that reminds us that their legacy of song remains as fresh as it ever was.

"I was in Nashville," he says, "walking by this club full of young people--I'm talking 18 or 20. The band started playing 'Dixieland Delight' and everybody in the place started singing and sang all the way through. I had to smile at the longevity of the songs. Half the crowd at our shows is young people, under 25 years old. So I think that's a tribute to the fact that we spent a career putting out good songs that stand the test of time."

While their music continues to stand the test of time, their numbers and stats are beyond compare. The and has sold over 80 million albums. They have charted 43 #1 singles including 21 #1 singles in a row, a record that will likely never be surpassed in any genre. They have won over 178 CMA Awards, Grammy Awards, ACM Awards and counting. They’ve earned 21 Gold ®, Platinum ® and Multi-Platinum ® albums and were named the RIAA's Country Group of the Century. They are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame and have a start on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They are also world-class philanthropists who have raised over 250 Million dollars for charity.

The band continues to perform to legions of loyal fans, selling out venues night after night. They were honored with the ACM Career Achievement Award at the Ryman Auditorium in the Fall of 2015 and were named “Album Of The Year” at the 2015 Dove Awards for ANGELS AMONG US” HYMNS & GOSPEL FAVORITES.

ALABAMA continues to thrill fans as their 50 th Anniversary Tour Rolls throughout 2019 in the US and Canada. ALABAMA is and always will be the greatest country band in American history.

Alabama - The Band

As one of the ultimate bands who have changed the face of country music, Alabama is undoubtedly a household name. With countless hits spanning their five-decade career, the famous trio has made a mark in the country music scene. Indeed, Jeff Cook, Randy Owen, and Teddy Gentry are icons! They have inspired many bands by bringing youthful energy, charisma, and a rocking edge that broadened the audience for country music.

From the moment the trio put out their music in the early 1970s, Alabama's experimental sound was regarded to be a breath of fresh air. Thus, their songs—which included bluegrass, folk, gospel, and pop—became hits immediately. At a time when other musicians were hesitant to attempt new things, Alabama was at the forefront of country music's meteoric rise to popularity. Remember the hits "Mountain Music," "Love in the First Degree," and "Dixieland Delight?" Over the years, the band has soared to greater heights, penetrating charts, selling records, receiving innumerable awards, and selling out enormous arenas. These songs are just a handful of the numerous #1 singles they have — 21, to be exact.

Aside from selling over 75 million records globally, the band has achieved distinctions that most artists can only dream of. Alabama boasts a long list of awards and nominations, including two Grammys, fifteen Academy of Country Music awards, eighteen American Music Awards, and an induction to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

In the previous year, Alabama embarked on an anniversary tour that celebrated their 50 long years in the music industry. To say that it was a success is an understatement. Fans of all ages were ecstatic to hear the trio perform their career-defining hits — honoring their longevity and talent.

This year, Alabama is yet to announce another extensive North American concert tour. However, fans are expecting that, sooner or later, the band will embark on another series of shows in the country. After all, they will be back for another run of "June Jam." The highly-anticipated show is an all-day country concert that will feature some of the biggest names in country music. The likes of Garth Brooks, Jake Owen, Willie Nelson, The Judds, and Clint Black, among many others, have participated in the event. Thus, it is a must-see event.

Although there has yet to be an announcement for a tour, Alabama has a few shows lined up this year. One of these shows is a two-night concert event at the Oldest City in the country: St. Augustine, Florida. The trio of legendary musicians isn't slowing down any time soon because they will perform a back-to-back concert at St. Augustine Amphitheatre on November 8 and 9. Catch them on their first night at the iconic Florida venue. Reserve your tickets before they run out. Hit the "Get Tickets" link to order one for you and your friends.

Iconic ‘90s rock bands coming to Alabama, celebrating 30th anniversary of hit albums

Two powerhouse ‘90s rock bands are going on tour in summer 2024, celebrating the 30th anniversary of albums that cemented their fame.

Live, led by Ed Kowalczyk , and Stone Temple Pilots , now fronted by Jeff Gutt , are set to perform on Aug. 27 at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham. The Alabama date is part of a 19-city “Jubilee Tour” that points to milestones for “Throwing Copper,” Live’s No. 1 record from 1994, and “Purple,” a chart-topper for STP that same year.

Tickets for the Pelham show go on sale Friday, March 22, at 10 a.m. CT via Ticketmaster/Live Nation , after a round of pre-sales. Prices are $49.50, $59.50, $79.50 and $99.50, plus service charges, according to promoter Live Nation. Several pre-sales are planned, starting on Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT and running through Thursday, March 21, at 10 p.m. CT, according to the Ticketmaster/Live Nation listing.

Soul Asylum will be the opening act on the tour; Live and Stone Temple Pilots will alternate for the closing spot on the lineup. Live is set to close at Oak Mountain, according to a press release from Live Nation.

Right now, Pelham is the only Alabama stop on the tour, but the bands are scheduled to perform in Southern cities such as Rogers, Arkansas (Aug. 24, Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion ); Jacksonville, Florida (Aug. 30, Daily’s Place ); and Alpharetta, Georgia (Aug. 31, Ameris Bank Amphitheatre ).

Live has nine studio albums to its credit, 1989-present. The band is best known, however, for “Throwing Copper,” produced by Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads. The multi-platinum album included hit singles such as “Lightning Crashes,” “Selling the Drama,” “I Alone” and “All Over You.”

Kowalczyk, a singer, songwriter and guitarist, is a founding member of Live and its longtime prime mover. He’s the only original member currently touring with Live, and has been the band’s frontman for most of its history, which dates back to 1984.

Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots have eight studio albums to their credit, 1992-present, and hits such as “Plush,” “Creep,” “Vasoline,” “Interstate Love Song,” “Big Empty,” “Big Bang Baby” and “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.” After breaking through with the 1992 album “Core,” STP followed with “Purple,” a sophomore blockbuster that included the monster hit “Plush.” The song won several awards, including a 1994 Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Frontman Scott Weiland , a electrifying and unpredictable performer, founded Stone Temple Pilots in 1989 with guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz. Weiland helped to bring STP to fame but also had a checkered history with the band. He famously struggled with drug addiction, and this contributed to STP calling it quits in 2003. The band reunited in 2008, with Weiland at the microphone, and split with him in 2013. (Weiland died in 2015 at age 48.)

Chester Bennington of Linkin Park replaced Weiland as the lead singer of STP, 2013-2015, and Jeff Gutt of Dry Cell took over as frontman in 2017. Gutt can be heard on two STP albums, 2018′s “Stone Temple Pilots” and 2020′s “Perdida.” Three original members of Stone Temple Pilots remain with the band, and will be on the tour this year with Gutt.

Live and Stone Temple Pilots both have strong fan bases in Alabama. Stone Temple Pilots has appeared at least four times at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre, with dates there 1997-2018. STP also played at the Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil in Birmingham in 2011. Live’s Kowalczyk played a solo date at Alabaster CityFest in 2013.

2024 NCAA Women's Tournament bracket: Ranking all 68 teams in March Madness from No. 1 to No. 68

Here's where every ncaa women's tournament team stands ahead of their championship quests.

gettyimages-1239300870-1-1.jpg

Selection Sunday has come and gone, and now we officially know the field of 68 competing in the 2024 NCAA Women's Tournament. South Carolina has been the most dominant program all season and was an easy pick for the No. 1 team in the rankings.

The Gamecocks are entering the tournament undefeated for the second consecutive year,  and while last year they fell to Iowa in the Final Four, Dawn Staley's group looks more than capable of winning its second title in the last three years. Only nine teams have ever finished as undefeated champions.

The Pac-12 as we know it is gone after this season, but the conference's classic teams are ready to represent one more time in the Big Dance. USC beat Stanford to win the Pac-12 Tournament , earning the Trojans the No. 2 spot in our rankings. Freshman star JuJu Watkins has had some incredible performances for USC this season, but the team is stronger than just her. McKenzie Forbes reminded everyone of that when she scored 26 points in the Pac-12 title game en route to winning the tournament's Most Valuable Player honors.

Our No. 3, Iowa,  avoided an upset loss against Nebraska  in the Big Ten title game. The Hawkeyes lifted their third consecutive conference tournament trophy, and their last before Caitlin Clark -- NCAA Division I basketball's all-time leading scorer -- leaves to the WNBA. The Hawkeyes made it to last year's national championship game, but LSU overpowered them for the title. Clark will try to finish the job this time around.

As for LSU, the reigning national champion, the Tigers have had a few slip ups this season, but Kim Mulkey's squad is still tough to beat and will be hungry to prove itself once again. Although they failed to win the SEC Tournament, the Tigers kept it competitive against South Carolina in the SEC title game and are therefore ranked No. 8.

UConn has 11 national titles, the most in women's college basketball. The Huskies also have star guard Paige Bueckers back this year after she sat out all of last season due to a torn ACL. Bueckers is still a strong offensive player and has made a jump defensively, but while she's been healthy in 2023-24, the injury bug has affected the Huskies elsewhere. Multiple injuries and several inexperienced players on the roster forced UConn to use a rotation of mostly seven players. Depth matters during March Madness, but the Huskies can't be overlooked because they have still managed to have the second-best scoring margin in the nation, just behind South Carolina.

Here are CBS Sports' rankings for all 68 teams in the 2024 NCAA Women's Tournament.
