1. private 5 hrs grand day tour of venice on foot and by boat with tickets included.
- Duration: 5 hours
- Departure: P.za San Marco, 30124 Venezia VE
- Departure Time: Between 8:30 AM & 2:00 PM

The first time I ever arrived in Venice, I was taken aback by just how many things there were to see and do. The floating city is not only visually aesthetic, it’s also filled to the brim with history, rich culture, and delicious food.
The Private 5 hrs Grand Day Tour of Venice on Foot and by Boat with Tickets Included is the perfect way to get to know the Floating City in one comprehensive experience that will make you fall in love.
The only thing that I felt could’ve made this tour better, was offering a hotel pickup instead of having to meet up in central Venice. However, it was still quite easy to access from our hotel and our guide was super friendly and welcoming, answering any questions we had.
I was really excited to discover that we had skip-the-line access to many of the most popular sites, including the impressive St. Mark’s Basilica, leaving us more time to explore.
Our first stop was at the Doge’s Palace, where I learned about the dark history behind this place, even getting the opportunity to walk through the famous prisons, where countless prisoners were held.
The Piazza San Marco and Basilica di San Marco (St. Mark’s) were absolutely beautiful, learning about the history of the church and the square as our guide led us around.
Speaking of churches, I also loved seeing the Santa Maria Formosa Rensaissance Church dedicated to the Holy Virgin and boasting quite the interesting background.
We cruised along the Calle del Paradiso typical Venetian alley way with breathtaking Byzantine and Gothic architecture, before arriving to the gorgeous Grand Canal to take a relaxing 1-hour ride along the waterways.
If you’re looking to see a lot of the city in a short amount of time, this is a fantastic choice!

- Departure: Campo S. Giacomo di Rialto, 30125 Venezia VE
- Departure Time: 9:00, 10:00 or 11:00 AM
- Includes: Private expert local guide, skip-the-line tickets to St Mark’s Basilica and Doge’s Palace, private gondola ride
Venice is one of my favorite cities in the world, and one of the tours that made me fall in love with it so, is this next one. The Venice in a Day Private Tour allows you to dive into the romance, mystery, and allure thanks to an expert local guide in a private tour setting.
Through narrow alleys to smooth waterways, there are so many stories ready to be explored from this once major financial and maritime power.
Our tour began in the Piazza San Marco, which is simply breathtaking, featuring Saint Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and plenty of ornate arches and stunning structures that will take you back in time.
After our guide asked us about our specific interests to incorporate into the tour, we then headed to the Basilica di San Marco, skipping the lines to admire the ornate beauty of the Patriarchate of Venice without the wait.
We then headed to the Doge’s Palace with VIP entry once again, so there was no waiting and we got to see all of the private hidden apartments, along with the Hall of Great Council, Bridge of Sighs, and more.
It was very interesting, albeit a bit sad learning about the wrath and torment that occurred here. After walking around and learning all about the Doges’ span of nearly 1000 years of ruling, we then took a more lighthearted turn onto a fantastic eatery for lunch.
We then took a leisurely stroll through the charming streets to all kinds of bridges and piazzas, like the famous Rialto bridge and Marco Polo’s house! Closeby, we stopped by Campo Santa Maria Formosa for a private gondola ride, which is so exquisitely “Venice” in all its glory!
It may be cliche, sure, but it was one of my favorite parts of the tour, which is saying a lot because I loved it all!
3. Highlights & Hidden Gems With Locals: Best of Venice Private Tour
- Duration: 3 hours
- Departure Time: Between 9:00 AM & 12:00 PM
- Includes: Custom private tour, local guide, see the city’s top attractions and secret gems, 1 local drink and tasting
Venice is a city of romance, mystery, and intricate history, but there’s so much more than what originally meets the eye. If you’d really like to capture its authentic essence in just one day, this is one of the best tours to take.
The Highlights & Hidden Gems with Locals: Best of Venice Private Tour does a great job summing it up, offering a more behind-the-scenes look at the floating city.
We met our guide in central Venice, who was a local and very passionate about his city, which made the tour that much more intriguing. As it is a completely private tour, he even asked for our input and what we were specifically interested in, to tailor it to our liking.
With exclusive access and skip-the-line tickets to major attractions, we also got to see so much more than we would have had we purchased the tickets separately.
While being able to see the most popular sites like this was certainly fun, it was equally as interesting being able to see the more off-the-beaten-path discoveries like little campos, tranquil canals, and plenty of breathtaking architecture I’d never even heard of before.
Our guide really tailored the tour to our needs, taking us to many little treasures along the way – like the Banksy painting on one of the canal walls!
Again, this is an experience that likely wouldn’t be possible unless you’re going with a local guide who really knows the city like the back of their hand.
It’s perfect for taking near the beginning of your Venice stay, so you can explore all the various little shops and fantastic eateries throughout the rest of your time there.
This is definitely one of those experiences that will show you the “backstory” of the city many don’t know about.
4. Private Tour: Venice Half-Day Walking Tour
- Departure: Calle Minelli, 4267/A, 30124 Venezia VE
- Departure Time: Between 10:00 AM & 5:00 PM
- Includes: Private Walking Tour (3 hours), Professional guide, Private tour and commentary, Appetizer and one glass of wine at a Venetian bacaro
I couldn’t believe how affordable this next tour was, especially considering that it’s 100% completely customizable!
This is one of the most affordable private tours I’ve seen in Venice, where a professional guide will lead you and your party alone throughout the places you’re most interested in!
If that sounds like fun to you, do yourself a favor and check out the Private Tour: Venice Half-Day Walking Tour !
Something else that made this tour so convenient to me was the fact that they have a whopping 5 different start times, ranging from early in the morning to later at night.
Whether you’re interested in architecture, food, Renaissance art, etc., do not doubt that these guides can whip up a fascinating tour that will show you the best of the best. I told them I was most interested in both Renaissance architecture and art, and wow, they did not disappoint!
Along the way, we stopped at a couple of locales to try traditional Venetian appetizers and a couple of glasses of local wines, too. The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari was one of the most impressive sites I’ve ever seen, and while many tourists miss it, I’d advise you not to.
Inside is just as impressive, with art like Giovanni Bellini’s ‘Madonna and Child with Saints, ‘Saint John the Baptist’ by Donatello, and ‘Assumption’ by Titian.
What was really cool is that our guide was so thorough that he even set up reservations for us to see additional experiences and try busy restaurants, with impeccable timing!
I learned so much about Venetian foods, customs, wines, and of course, the history relating back to local architecture and art. I truly can’t recommend this tour enough, no matter the age or background!
5. Private 4 hrs Venice Tour: St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Secret Venice
- Duration: 4 hours
- Includes: Professional English-speaking local guide, guarantee to skip long lines to Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, headset to hear guide with 9+ participants in the group
This is another private tour throughout the floating city that’ll take you through its winding canals and alleyways, uncovering little hidden gems and famous landmarks.
If you have a larger party or you’re traveling with the entire family, this is the tour I’d recommend most as it’s ideal for bigger groups.
The Private 4 hrs Venice Tour: St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Secret Venice has a fantastic guide to tailor the experience to your preferences to ensure a personal tour, too.
Like most tours on this guide, it starts off with you meeting your guide in the center of Venice – in this case, right outside the Royal Gardens. Our guide asked us about what we’re most interested in and designed the next 4 hours around it.
Our first stop of the day was a quick stroll over to Doge’s Palace located in St. Mark’s Square, where we were able to skip the massive queues and head straight inside!
We followed our guide throughout the different opulent rooms, decorated with gilded decor, murals, paintings, etc. from floor to ceiling!
After learning all about the Doges, we headed closeby to St. Mark’s Basilica, where we also skipped the line and headed right inside to explore the towering golden domes and marble for half an hour.
We then went to the backstreets to check out fascinating hidden gems like the imposing San Zaccaria Church, Campo Santa Maria Formosa, and “hidden Venice”.
I loved the stories our guide shared with us as we explored, further enriching what we were seeing in a way that was engaging and natural – not like audiobook tours that just repeat information you can find anywhere.
Oh, and if you’re traveling with easily distracted teens, this tour will keep them entertained with intense stories and fun guides! While the price is a bit higher than the others, it’s more than worth it!
6. Private One Day Tour in Venice!
- Duration: 8 hours
- Departure: Hotel pickup and drop-off included
- Departure Time: 10:00 AM
- Includes: Private Guide for the day, Lunch, Transfer to Murano island by private water taxi, private guided visit of an old glass factory with glassblowing demonstration, private, water taxi for the Grand Canal Boat Tour
This next tour is the most comprehensive of the bunch, and is perfect if you are only going to be in Venice for a short amount of time!
If you’re going to be in the city for only a day or two, this tour does a great job of offering insight into Venice’s history while showing you a huge amount of top sites. The Private One Day Tour in Venice starts out at 10:00 am, and you’ll be back just after dinnertime!
Instead of having to head to a meetup point and figure out how to get there, rest easy waiting in your hotel lobby for your guide to come pick you and your crew up! Our first task of the day was to explore the Cannaregio district.
It is surprisingly lacking the masses of tourists, but is brimming with history – most notably, the Jewish Ghetto filled with old synagogues, art galleries, and museums.
Next up, we visited the San Polo district, which is known as the old trade center of the city, and is where we were able to see and explore the treasures that are offered at Rialto market! I really had a fun time in Santa Croce, which is filled with all kinds of art and talented artisans!
We then crossed the Ponte di Rialto, appreciating the beautiful views and learning about its history before arriving at the Mercati di Rialto for a traditional lunch.
After fueling up on cicchetti and local wines, we made our way to the legendary San Marco square where we saw the basilica, Doge’s Palace, and Bridge of Sighs.
The only thing that was a slight “con” for me was that we had to pay extra to enter the Doge’s Palace, but it was still quite affordable and worth it.
After that, we got to see one of the oldest glass factories on Murano Island, finishing with a private water taxi ride on the gorgeous Grand Canal while sipping on a glass of Prosecco.
7. Private Guided Tour: Venice Gondola Ride Including the Grand Canal
- Duration: 1 hour
- Departure: Campiello Traghetto, 30124 Venezia VE
- Departure Time: 2:00 PM
- Includes: Private guide in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, Private 1-hour gondola ride
If you’re looking for a tour that will easily fit into even the busiest of itineraries, this one is right up your alley!
It’s a fantastic way to see Venice from quite possibly the most “iconic” perspective: a gondola! The Private Guided Tour: Venice Gondola Ride Including the Grand Canal comes with tons of different start times throughout the day and evening, so you can surely find a time that works perfectly for you.
I feel that everyone should have the experience of riding a gondola when in Venice, down the famous Grand Canal lined with opulent palaces, impressive basilicas, and old homes that simply can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
With 5 passengers maximum per boat, this is definitely an intimate experience ideal for friends, families, couples, and even solo travelers. Meet the guide in central Venice to take off close to St. Mark’s Square, which is very easy to access from just about any hotel in the city.
The gondoliers are quite charming, themselves, though it was our guide who really made the experience so memorable and educational.
He spoke various languages but was a local, born and raised, so he knew just about everything one could know about Venice’s past and present! Taking in the gorgeous canal-side sights was something else, offering incredible opportunities for photos and videos.
As we cruised down the famous Grand Canal, he quizzed us on fun facts and trivia, while also regaling us with interesting anecdotes from his own experiences of living there.
It was so cool being on the water as we passed by all kinds of water taxis, barges, and plenty of other gondolas!
Going under the gorgeous Accademia Bridge was quite the experience, and I really enjoyed getting to go through the narrower little canals that I felt exhibited perhaps the most charming homes and wonders.
However, there’s no underestimating the grandeur of the Ca’ d’Oro palace and the Rialto Bridge, passing through centuries of history.
This is so much more than just a gondola ride – it was a great balance between a relaxing ride and an educational experience. It’s perfect for every age, too!

My "mission" is to let travelers see and appreciate my city as if they were locals, sharing my passion and enthusiasm for my hometown with them, as only a local could do. This is why most of my tours are "off-the-beaten-path" tours, I think that to see the real side of Venice it's necessary to walk far away from the crowds and from the touristy sites and walk through charming and quiet neighborhoods, looking for the hidden corners and peaceful streets of the city, where you can still feel the authenticity and the magic of this place. I love to focus also on local traditions, habits and lifestyle today and in the past, to let you see how it feels like to be a local in Venice ! I'd like travelers to feel at home here, as if they were simply having a relaxing walk with a longtime Venetian friend!

What other guests say about our tours and locals
Don’t visit Venice without a local
"Loris was incredibly great! You can’t experience a real Venice without a local host! Loris met us on a calm Sunday noon and showed us places we would not have seen if it is not a local with us. He changed the district of the tour on our request and showed a real Venice - places locals go to eat, get a drink, places Venice Biennale is organized at, local gardens, secret fancy hotel garden with an exit to the water, the oldest bridge in Venice and the narrowest street of the city. We learned so much about the history of the island, local lifestyle, local people happy exciting moments and struggles while living on the island, got an extended list of places we can visit after our experience with Loris. It was incredibly great afternoon together. Thanks a million again, Loris! See you next time we are in Venice!"
Genny is amazing!
"We had an absolutely incredible tour with Genny. She is not only incredibly knowledgeable about the history and culture of Venice, but she also has a wonderful upbeat energy and enthusiasm. She is also a magician with kids and knows exactly how to keep them engaged and entertained. We all loved our time with her, learned so much and would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Venice. Thank you Genny!! "
Venice expert
"Giada moved to Venice because she loves the culture, and it shows. She is knowledgeable of the history and architecture, and she gives time and attention to the special things about Venice that you wouldn't necessarily see in a museum or a travel blog. It's clear how much she enjoys her new home. She's also quite friendly and professional!"
"Veronica was absolutely amazing. For a quick day trip to Venice, she was absolutely what we needed to be able to navigate the city and see the major points. She succeeded to taking us to the hot spots with tons of history lessons in between as well as helping us get our gondola ride. I would recommend Veronica to anyone wanting a tour of the city!!! "
Great tour of History of Venice
"Mattia was a great guide—informative and enthusiastic. Deep knowledge of history of Venice. Advantage to having a private guide is we could taylor the tour to what we wanted to do. "
Good overall information
"We had a very interesting tour with Adair. She told us a lot about the history, the todays life and traditions in Venice. "
Brilliant introduction to Venice
"Valentina provided us with a top-class experience in our personalised tour of the area of Venice in which we stayed. She took the time to discover our interests and tailored the tour accordingly. It was more like a stroll around the area with a very knowledgeable friend than a guided tour. It was an afternoon really well spent and set us up nicely for the remainder of our stay. Valentina is warm and friendly. After we finished, Valentina sent us some recommendations for places to eat in Venice and Treviso (which were visiting a few days later) as well as tips for getting around both cities. A really worthwhile experience with a wonderful, friendly and informative guide."
Amazing experience
"I am very grateful to Marco for the excellent tour on Easter Sunday. Marco is a true professional with deep knowledge of Venice's history. He is a genuine patriot of Venice and not only presented historical facts but also conveyed the attitudes of Venetians towards various events, allowing us to deeply immerse ourselves in the spirit and mindset of the Venetians. I highly recommend Marco as the best guide for Venice, St. Mark's Square, and other attractions in English or Russian. Thank you, Marco, for the unforgettable experience!"
Claudia was wonderful!
"The food tour of Venice with Claudia was wonderful! This was my second time in Venice and my husband's first time and I think every bite of food and sip of a beverage was a new experience for both of us! It rained pretty much the entire time, but we got to see so much and learned so much about Venice. I would highly recommend Claudia! And it wasn't all about food...she knows all the history too!!"
Venice with Giada
"Our family of four (kids 12 and 7) had a delightful tasting tour with Giada. We learned a great deal about Venice and had a lovely time strolling through the neighborhoods and tasting great food and wine. Giada is the best."

Why a guide in Venice?
A Guide in Venice means a friend in Venice. A guide in Venice means opening yourself up to lear the secrets of this ancient city from locals who live and breathe the laguna. What does the local mean to us? It means we’re in the know. As residents who live and work in the city we carry with us its complex history and rich traditions…
- Stories from Venice
- Is Venice 1600 years old? The history of Venice is somehow difficult to unravel, as in its written form this was drawn up late and in a fragmentary fashion. It is interesting to notice that the archeological excavation findings do not always chronologically correspond to the written reports. In fact, the remains prove that rich hubs were already settled on various areas of the lagoon.
Sightseeing and enjoying Venice with our walks and tours . Come and let Venice to be yours.
Planning a tour to Italy? Then you can’t miss Venice, a major destination for your tours . Today as yesterday Venice still draws visitors from every where, all of them wishing to experience its elusive dream-like ambience: it remains a city without wheels, built on rafts on wooden piles, located in the middle of a vast lagoon and still looking as it did centuries ago. Part eastern, part western, half land, half sea, Venice fits into no convenient category of place. It is bathed in mystery and wonder through the tales of countless visitors and travellers, each one adding some of his own, trying to seize the city’s indefinable nature. The millenary history of Venice then unfolds before you through an unparalleled variety of centuries-old palaces and their great array of architecture and world class fine art collections.
But how to visit and get the best of it? First you have to fit into the particular texture of the city: join in on your own or as part of a small group or party and walk around unhurriedly through the maze of waterways and alleys. Second, let a professional guide show you around the landmarks, tell you the stories of the past and bring you into the living scenes of the present. A gondola gliding on a canal, a grocery market in full swing, a bar where you’ll sip a glass of wine and taste local food, a workshop to see how expert artisans produce their traditional handcrafts and varied works. This is what you can experience with our Venice Tours; a city bustling with the joy of unexpected sights and sounds to be experienced at a walking, human and friendly pace.

Grand Canal Cruise
After a quick visit to the stunning San Giovanni & Paolo Church, your boat tour will really begin when you reach the Grand Canal. The main avenue of Venice, connecting St. Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge, the train station, and many more of the city's most important places, it's often referred to as Venice's artery. On your VIP cruise, your private guide will point out the amazing palaces, bridges, and famous sites that line the Canal. It is a fantastic overview of the city, and you'll also pass by St. Mark's Square—home of St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace.
Hidden Canals and Secret Gardens of Venice
After enjoying the buzz of the Grand Canal, you'll turn off the main waterway and into the small canals where Venetians have traveled by gondola for centuries. These winding canals were built without a grid in mind, and the buildings and streets that line the waterway are densely packed and full of local life. The hidden canals of Venice are both pretty and practical, and Venetians have been using them to travel through the city for centuries.
There are over 500 secret gardens in Venice, tucked away behind nondescript doorways and offering a magical escape from the bustle of city life. Most people leave Venice without even knowing they exist, but your private local guide knows exactly where they're hiding. Stopping at seemingly random doors, you'll get special access to seem some of the pristine landscaping and wonderful flora tucked away behind the city streets.
You'll see at least one Secret Garden on this tour, and possibly more. As they aren't public tourist attractions, which gardens are available to view can change from day to day.
See where Marco Polo and Tintoretto lived
For hundreds of years during the last millennium, Venice was a major trading and cultural power. The home of the Church of Gold and the luxurious Doge's Palace, Venice was once an international hub of much repute. One of its traders, a man by the name of Marco Polo, famously made it all the way to China! Whether Polo actually brought back noodles or even went to China is up for debate, but his writings were the go-to source on the Far East for centuries. As you explore the city, you'll see the house where Polo was born, as well as the home of Renaissance master Tintoretto—one of the most influential artists of his time.
Madonna dell'Orto
After your scenic boat ride, step back on land to explore another Venetian church, Madonna dell’Orto. As you enter, make sure you turn around to admire the beautiful organ that sits on top of the main entryway! Built in the 14th century, the church owes its name to a miraculous statue of the Virgin and Child. One of the most stunning examples of Gothic architecture in Venice, the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Christopher, protector of sailors.
Cannaregio and the Jewish Ghetto
Towards the end of your tour, your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the vibrant Cannaregio neighborhood. Home to many of the city's best shops, bars, and restaurants, it's a hive of local life and one of Venice's hippest areas. You'll also see the Venetian Jewish Ghetto, which was established back in 1516. The entire Jewish population of Venice had to live in the area until the end of the 18th century, when Napoleon liberated the neighborhood. It is the oldest Jewish Ghetto in the world and also the origin of the word "ghetto" itself.
At the end of your tour, you'll be dropped back at near to your hotel, or at another convenient pier in central Venice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What to bring?
Remember to bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be walking for part of this tour of Venice.
I'm trying to book, but I don't see any availability. Help?
If you are trying to book up to two weeks in advance, the website will show no availability. However, feel free to contact us and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
I have doubts about my mobility. Is this the right tour for me?
If you have reduced mobility, it's a good idea to take this private Venice tour. The itinerary is much more flexible and easily modified than a small group tour.
What should I wear?
Since this tour includes churches, both men and women must cover their knees and shoulders. Otherwise, you may be refused entry to a portion of your tour. We understand the summers in Venice are hot so a great alternative is to bring a shawl/scarf/sweater with you. That way, you can cover your knees and shoulders when necessary.
How many people are allowed to book this tour as one group?
If you are a larger group with more than 10 participants, let us know prior to booking. There may be additional charges because we will need more than one boat.
How do I know if my hotel in Venice will work for a boat pick-up?
Ask your hotel for the name of the nearest dock or just reach out to us and we'll let you know. If your hotel doesn't have a dock, we'll set a central meeting point for you.
Remember to bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be walking for part of this tour of Venice.

Benefits of a Private Boat Tour in Venice
You have a couple reasons that you might want to do a private boat tour. Learning about Venice from the canals is one of the best ways that you can experience the fascinating culture and history since the city was built around them.
Personalized Experience
You can personalize the experience more easily when you book a private boat tour, and Luxo Italia will 100% customize this experience for you as a unique Italy luxury travel vacation. For example, if you’d like to take a private gondola boat ride through the canals during sunset, that is an option for travelers. You can customize the following during a private boat tour:
- Preferences and what you want to see
- Where you want to be picked up in Venice
- The route you want to see

The personalized experience is what luxury is all about so that you can absorb the full pleasure of the boat ride. You can enjoy it more because it was made for your personality and your loved one’s personality.
Avoids Crowds and Queues
Doing a private boat tour helps you to cut ahead of the crowds and queues so that you waste zero time during your trip. This is one of the private boat tours in Venice, Italy, that was designed to take you away from the crowds and help you to better understand the real Venetian culture.
Flexible Itinerary
The itinerary with a boat trip that is private is extraordinarily flexible. You set the time, and you can do whatever you’d like to do during the trip. If you want to take one of the boats to the Murano and Burano islands at a time when it’s not available with other tours, you can still do it with a private tour.
Privacy and Intimacy
You get far more privacy and intimacy when you choose a private tour over the other options. Venice is widely accepted as the most romantic city in the whole world, and it has become a top destination for honeymooners . The private tours give you more privacy and intimacy with your loved one so that you can set memories. For a truly romantic experience, we would recommend a tour around twilights and eating an intimate trattoria while watching the setting sun.
Stunning Views and Photo Opportunities
The architecture in Venice is a Gothic-style architecture that was once highly fashionable during the 12th century. All of this beautiful architecture makes for some stunning opportunities for photos, and you can also get some spectacular views from the water. To truly appreciate the views of this city, you want to get down in the canals in the boats, but you also want to see the city from the bridges over the canals. One of the bridges with a stunning view would be the Rialto Bridge.
Knowledgeable Local Guides
Many of the best local guides tend to gravitate more toward the private tours because they offer more money. This means that to get the best history and information that goes beyond the general information, you would want to hire one of the private Venice boat tours. They can also answer more specific questions that you might have because they don’t need to contend with dozens of other questions.
Customized Tours and Activities
You can customize your tour and your activities to better fit the actual things that you would like to do in Venice. Instead of getting things that was made for mass appeal, you can choose what specifically fits your personality.
Relaxed and Comfortable Atmosphere
When in a large group of people for a tour, the atmosphere is less relaxed and comfortable. For a private tour, you can just chill out and enjoy the scenery and the knowledge of your guide. Sailing through the canals of Venice is incredibly relaxing.
Unique Perspective of Venice
To truly know Venice, you need to go down into the canals in a boat, and you’d be surprised how it will change your perspective of the city. Private guides tend to have better knowledge, and they’ll offer a perspective that not everyone will hear.
