5 Passes Cycle Tour

Tour Overview – Getting to Know Each Other

five passes cycle tour

One of the great things about riding in the 5 Passes Tour, it’s a wee bit like the line in Hotel California: “you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave”.

If you’ve ridden the tour once, then you’re a part of the whanau, and we will always take a keen interest in any future sporting successes that may come your way.

So here’s a snapshot of just some of the people who will be joining you on the start line at Clearwater on the 24th of next month.

Just three weeks after last year’s tour, Annabelle Bramwell lined up for the COVID delayed Ironman NZ in Taupo. It was an age group race, and Annabelle smashed it, coming home fourth overall on a very difficult day weather wise. The effort was all the more impressive, when you consider that she also copped a bout of COVID between events. We wish her well at the World Champs in Kona just over a week away on the 14th of this month.

Back in its traditional time slot in March this year, Laura Wood not only made her debut over the distance, but she also raced in the pro division, finishing seventh overall !

5 Passes riders featured prominently in February’s Coast to Coast, with four of the six men’s and women’s one day podium places going to riders from last year’s tour. After more than a decade of trying, Sam Manson crossed the lined for his maiden title, but not before overcoming an epic battle with fellow tour rider Ryan Kiesanowski, who ended the day in second- his best ever result in the Longest Day.

Simone Maier is completely on top of he game at the moment, but the gap is closing and the depth in the women’s field is growing. 5 Passes riders are making sure of that! Fiona Dowling measured her day beautifully for yet another podium finish- her best result in finishing second. After a great start, Rebecca Kingsford had some back issues near the top of Goat Pass and faded. However in a real show of character, she battled her way back to third. Others of note….Sarah Jenkins rocked home in eighth, Flavio Vianna was the first veteran home and finished 12th overall, Paul Gow was 17th, Duncan Rutherford 42nd, James McCone was the fifth veteran, and Alice Mullins snuck into the top ten.

The two day race provided some great results for 5 Passes riders too. Estelle Arundell managed her weekend superbly and was the first individual woman home Olympic gold medal winning rower Nathan Cohen teamed up with Riche McCaw (he’ll be our first All Black and third Crusader on tour) in the two day Tandem Teams, and they continued to underline their magnificent sporting pedigrees, taking out the victory.

Another former Crusader, Matt Mustchin (yes he who got naked at Clearwater !) finished 43rd in the two day race. Prior to the Coast, Matt was the first veteran home in the Waimakariri River Classic kayak race. Rebecca Kingsford was first woman home overall. Anthony Chapman won his age group at Le Race finishing 21st overall, while Flavio Vienna, Glen Rewi and Sam Manson weren’t too far behind. Laura Wood and Sophie Brown were super impressive finishing fourth and fifth overall in the women’s field.

There are no doubt countless other awesome results that we could include here, and feel free to add them to the thread in the comments section below !

Some riders have been coming for years. Chris Yeats quietly sneaks under the radar, and is generally on the start line most years. By our rough guesstimate, this will be his 14th or 15th tour. There are plenty of others in double figures with Lee Hatton hitting ten years this time around. That’s not to mention the incredibly loyal support crew.

As always, veteran rider and now crew member Paul Williams has ensured that Armitage Williams will have plenty of riders on tour, and there are a few other familiar team names. One of the more puzzling shifts has seen the experienced Aaron Shurmers join the Fat Boyswhen you learn about their initiation process, you’ll understand the puzzlement !

If you’re not training with Pure Sports Nutrition, tear into it now. Welcome back to the tour Simon Kraak along with sister Marewa Sutherland.

It’s always fun hearing tales from Jake Rowse’s Kiwi Style Bike Tours. Their European season has recently wrapped up, so Jake and guides like Blair Rouse, Grant Lyon and Jimmy Nisbet will be coming in hot, and no doubt hotly denying that as well.

So a big welcome to first timers on the tour. Some great racing and riding ahead, but you’ll meet some fantastic people. The simple brief for those who have ridden before, is to help make everyone welcome !

Superbly written by our Tour MC/Rider and writer Brian Ashby

Shakira announces 2024 U.S. tour. Get tickets today

The “She Wolf” is coming out of her cage.

For the first time since 2018, Shakira will officially tour North America as part of her upcoming ‘LAS MUJERES YA NO LLORAN WORLD TOUR’ (which translates to “women no longer cry”).

Midway through the 14-concert run, the three-time Grammy winner is scheduled to stop in at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Thursday, Dec. 5.

At all shows, fans can expect to hear cuts from the Colombian icon’s recently released album that shares a name with the tour.

Hits like “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Whenever, Wherever,” and “Dia De Enero” will likely sneak into the setlist as well.

For those who can’t wait to get their hands on tickets, they can be secured as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Monday, April 22, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

On March 22, Shakira released her 12th studio album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.”

Comprised of 17 tracks featuring big-name collaborators like Cardi B, Bizarrap, Grupo Frontera, Rauw Alejandro, and Ozuna among others, the 47-year-old songstress sticks to español this time around. However, whether or not you speak Spanish is beside the point; Shakira’s music this time around is so catchy that you won’t mind looking up what the lyrics mean on Google Translate.

Highlights include the dance floor-ready hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” the infectious mariachi-inspired “El Jefe” with Fuerza Regida, and the icy “TQG” featuring Karol G.

While the whole album slaps, we’d be remiss if we didn’t shout our favorite track: the disco-flavored “Cohete.” We can’t stop listening.

Want to check it out for yourself? You can find “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” here .

Prior to announcing the tour, Shakira surprised the crowd at at Coachella on Friday, April 12 when she performed “La Fuerte” and “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53” alongside Bizzarap.

A raucous fan video can be seen here:

Many Latin icons are on the road all year long.

Here are just five of our favorites you won’t want to miss live.

•  Jennifer Lopez

•  Fuerza Regida

• Gloria Trevi

NEW YORK (AP) — Heart — the pioneering band that melds Nancy Wilson’s shredding guitar with her sister Ann’s powerhouse vocals — is hitting the road this spring and fall for a world tour that Nancy Wilson describes as “the full-on rocker size.”

“I’ve been strengthening. I’ve got my trainer,” she says. “You go one day at a time and you strengthen one workout session at a time. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the only job I know how to do.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who gave us classic tracks like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You” and “Alone” will be playing all the hits, some tracks from of their solo albums — like Ann Wilson’s “Miss One and Only” and Nancy Wilson’s “Love Mistake” — and a new song called “Roll the Dice.”

“I like to say we have really good problems because the problem we have is to choose between a bunch of different, really cool songs that people love already,” says Nancy Wilson.

Like “Barracuda,” a sonic burst which first appeared on the band’s second album, “Little Queen” and is one of the band’s most memorable songs.

“You can’t mess with ‘Barracuda.’ It’s just the way it is. It is great. You get on the horse and you ride. It’s a galloping steed of a ride to go on. And for everybody, including the band.”

The tour kicks off Saturday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, and will hit cities including Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, as well as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. International dates include stops in London, Oslo, Berlin, Stockholm, Montreal and Glasgow.

The band’s Royal Flush Tour will have Cheap Trick as the opening act for many stops, but Def Leppard and Journey will join for three stadium dates in Cleveland, Toronto and Boston this summer.

Ann and Nancy Wilson will be filled out by Ryan Wariner (lead and rhythm guitar), Ryan Waters (guitars), Paul Moak (guitars, keyboards and backing vocals), Tony Lucido (bass and backing vocals) and Sean T. Lane (drums).

The tour is the first in several years for Heart, which was rocked by a body blow in 2016 when Ann Wilson’s husband was arrested for assaulting Nancy’s 16-year-old twin sons. Nancy Wilson says that’s all in the past.

“We can take any kind of turbulence, me and Ann, and we’ve always been OK together,” she says. “We’re still steering the ship and happy to do it together. So we’re tight.”

The new tour will take them to Canada, which was warm to the band when they were starting out as what Nancy Wilson calls “a couple of chicks from Seattle.” She recalls Vancouver embracing Heart, and touring in one van across Canada in the dead of winter on two lane highways.

The Wilson sisters broke rock’s glass ceiling in the ‘70s and Nancy Wilson says they only had male influences to look to, like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Moody Blues.

Now she says she looks out and loves seeing generations of female rockers. “You have boygenius and you have Billie Eilish and you have Olivia Rodrigo and so many amazing women — Maggie Rogers and Sheryl Crow, who calls us her big influence. And then Billie Eilish might have Sheryl Crow as her influence. So it’s a really nice legacy to pass along. I like to say we’re the OG — the original gangsters — of women and rock.”

Heart has made it into the Rock Hall, won Grammys, sold millions of albums and rocked hundreds of thousands of fans but Nancy Wilson has one place she’d still like to shine.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of their debut album, “Dreamboat Annie,” which was the same year that “Saturday Night Live” started. “So we’re actually kind of putting it out there — Heart never played on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ But what about the 50th birthday party with Heart?”

I'm planning to spend $5,000 to see Taylor Swift in Europe with my kids. Our floor tickets, hotel, and flights are set to cost less than our nosebleed seats in the US did.

  • I saw Taylor Swift on the US leg of The Eras Tour, and two nosebleed seats cost us $5,000.
  • My daughter and I loved the show, so I scored us floor seats for one of Swift's Poland shows.
  • Our European trip includes three VIP Swift tickets and is set to be cheaper than our seats in the US.

Insider Today

When Taylor Swift first announced her Eras Tour , I laughed when I heard colleagues had cleared their work schedules to buy tickets.

I couldn't understand why they were looking for tickets for shows hours away. I liked a few of Swift's songs, but I wasn't a "Swiftie" and didn't understand the frenzy.

That all changed when my daughter started asking intensely for tickets . And once The Eras Tour started, it became clear that it was the concert of the century. It was also nearly impossible to get tickets.

Seeing the US tour was difficult and expensive, but the show turned me into a full-on Swiftie

I didn't want my kid to miss out on this generation-defining event, but I couldn't stomach spending $4,000 or more on the resale market for two nosebleed seats on top of travel costs to another city.

Fortunately, five cousins chipped in to buy my daughter tickets for her birthday.

My daughter, a devoted Swiftie, predictably loved every second of The Eras Tour. At first, I wasn't sure how I would get through a 3 ½-hour show by an artist I barely knew — but I left in awe of Swift's talent.

Related stories

In the weeks that followed, I listened exclusively to Swift. On a trip to Nashville, I sang my heart out to Swift's songs at the Country Music Hall of Fame. I wondered whether I would be able to see her perform again, this time going all in.

Getting tickets to see Swift in Poland was easier than I expected

As soon as Swift announced international dates on her tour in June, I took the first of many steps to get tickets to one of her shows abroad. I set my sights on a show in Warsaw, Poland, for several reasons.

My children and I are Polish citizens but have never set foot in the country. I've wanted to go for years, and snagging Swift tickets would allow me to finally make the trip. I reasoned that Warsaw was unlikely to be as popular as marquee destinations like Paris. It's also a less expensive city than many other international stops on The Eras Tour.

Also, tickets for the Warsaw show were not being sold through Ticketmaster. I found the idea of not having to deal with the company that botched sales to the US leg of the tour very appealing.

A few days before tickets went on sale, I got a code for the chance to buy tickets before they became available to the rest of the public. Based on how popular presales were in the US , I knew I was unlikely to get tickets, but I set an alarm for 5 a.m. anyway.

Much to my surprise, I was able to enter the ticket-buying portal right away. I scored three VIP floor seats for the first night of Swift's Eras Tour in Warsaw for less than $1,000. My daughter, my son, and I started making friendship bracelets immediately to exchange with other concert-goers, an Eras Tour tradition.

Our trip hasn't happened yet, but I already know it'll be worth it

Although tickets to the Warsaw show were not cheap, the total cost plus our European trip is set to be about the same as or less than the two nosebleed seats I got when I saw Swift in the US.

I hope to use credit-card points to book our flights, but even if I don't, I estimate the total cost of the trip could be from $4,000 to $5,000. This isn't significantly more than my family usually spends on our annual family vacation, and I have more than a year to save.

However, unlike other family vacations, this one comes with the chance to explore our roots and see a new part of the world. I never would have guessed that Swift would be what finally got me to Poland, but it's just one more reason for me to love her.
