Where are the USS Franklin Blueprints Located in Star Trek: Fleet Command?

In Star Trek: Fleet Command, you need 90 blueprints to construct the USS Franklin. Furthermore, you will also need a level 17 shipyard. The best and cheapest way to get the USS Franklin is by completing the occasionally held Franklin events. You can easily earn 45 blueprints by completing a mining and a hostile hunting event. However, the problem is that these events don’t come up in the game often, further increasing the rarity.

The USS Franklin Blueprints are even made available for purchase in the in-game store from time to time. All of this has led many players in the community to believe that the USS Franklin Blueprints are somewhat pay to play. While some can be earned from missions or available from the faction store, players mostly need to purchase the blueprints.

History [ ]

The Franklin was launched from the San Francisco Fleet Yards sometime between 2145 and 2151 . ( ENT : " First Flight "; Star Trek Beyond , dedication plaque )

Following the Earth-Romulan War and the formation of the United Federation of Planets , the Franklin received a new dedication plaque and was placed under the command of Captain Balthazar Edison , a former MACO veteran of the Xindi and Romulan wars. After many further missions and adventures the ship vanished in 2164 while on a mission in the Gagarin Radiation Belt , an incident later taught to future Starfleet officers at Starfleet Academy . Speculation abounded about the ship's disappearance, with theories ranging from it surrendering to the Romulans to being captured by a " giant green hand ".

However, the distance traveled suggested a wormhole displacement. The ship eventually crash landed on the planet Altamid . As no sign of rescue came, Edison came to believe the Federation deliberately abandoned them. Edison discovered relics left by Altamid's native species , including numerous ships , a drone workforce, and life-sustaining technology capable of stealing the "life force" from its victims. Edison and his crew abandoned the wreck of the Franklin and turned against the Federation.

Alternate reality [ ]

USS Franklin escapes Altamid

The USS Franklin departs Altamid

By 2263 of the alternate reality , the Franklin had been discovered, half-buried under the surface of Altamid, by Jaylah , who placed it under a holographic cloak to use as a residence. The Franklin had functioning power reserves, serviceable engines , and intact data logs despite a century of neglect. Before her encounter with the crew of the late starship USS Enterprise , Jaylah had begun repairs on the Franklin , learning English from its on-board computer and becoming familiar with the " classical " music of 20th century Earth stored in the ship's data banks.

USS Franklin defeats the Swarm

The Franklin defeats Krall's swarm

Marooned on Altamid, Captain James T. Kirk , Commander Spock , Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott , and Ensign Pavel Chekov further repaired the Franklin , restoring its transporter capability, and, enhancing it to transport complex lifeforms rather than simply cargo , they rescued the Enterprise crew imprisoned by Krall. Learning of Krall's plan to use his swarm ships and the super weapon known as the Abronath to attack the Federation Starbase Yorktown , Kirk and company successfully piloted the Franklin out of Altamid's atmosphere by dropping the ship off a cliff in order to reach terminal velocity . Most Federation vessels were designed with a feature that allowed the ship's forward momentum to be converted to a capability to "jump start" the engines. While Impulse Engines were available, this was only temporary; the ship needed this feature to maintain the ship's capabilities to continue using not only the Impulse Engines, but to jump-start the Warp Core. Other examples of this feature exist: for example, the use of this feature by Lt Erica Ortegas (SNW, Prime Universe) to restore atmospheric flight capabilities in a shuttle.

The Franklin emerges in Yorktown Central Plaza...

Encountering Krall's forces at Yorktown, Kirk and company piloted the Franklin into the swarm. Using the ship's antiquated technology, Kirk's crew disrupted the individual vessels' communications with radio signals and created a chain reaction that destroyed most of the swarm. Pursuing Krall and two remaining ships, the Enterprise crew piloted the Franklin into Yorktown's internal docking structure, using the ship itself to destroy the attacking vessels before crashing into Yorktown Central Plaza near Yorktown Headquarters . In the aftermath, Kirk and Commodore Paris officially closed the missing-in-action report on the Franklin and its crew. ( Star Trek Beyond )

Background information [ ].

Star Trek Beyond Director and Producer Justin Lin felt that including a pre-Federation ship in the film satisfied a goal he had – for the movie to explore and embrace everything in the Star Trek canon . He also believed the craft seemed to service the film's plot and its themes. In hindsight, he noted about the concept, " It felt pretty organic. " In fact, the creative staff loved the idea that, whereas the survivors from the Enterprise were initially under the impression that they were the first Humans on Altamid, there was some antiquated Federation technology elsewhere on the planet, proving otherwise. ("Beyond the Darkness", Star Trek Beyond (Blu-ray) / (Blu-ray 3D) / (4K Ultra HD) )

After deciding to include such a vehicle in the movie, the filmmakers next had to determine some precise details about it. Screenwriter Doug Jung explained, " We took a lot of care into making sure that we were specific about what kind of ship it was and what it could do, so that it fits in the timeline of all that stuff, which is really well established. " ("Beyond the Darkness", Star Trek Beyond (Blu-ray) / (Blu-ray 3D) / (4K Ultra HD) )

At first, the vessel was considerably different from how it turned out. Supervising Art Director Don Macaulay observed, " The Franklin had a small role in the movie when we started. " ("Exploring Strange New Worlds", Star Trek Beyond (Blu-ray) / (Blu-ray 3D) / (4K Ultra HD) ) The ship was originally to have been named the " Pioneer ", which it was called in an early screenplay for Star Trek Beyond . In the same script, the vessel was a significantly smaller scout ship that Scotty found in a desert, buried under sand. The creative personnel imagined him entering it by climbing through a hatch at the top of the ship, then getting the craft working again. Once Kirk and the rest of his team had rescued the other members of the crew, the screenplay called for them to somehow get back on board the craft. The script also made it clear that the vessel was a relatively old Starfleet ship that could withstand an extreme beating but had been lost on the planet for a long time. As the script proceeded to develop through successive drafts, the vessel's role in the story became increasingly more important. ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 7, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14)

USS Franklin as Pioneer concept art

A concept illustration of the USS Pioneer , which later became the Franklin

The ship was designed by Sean Hargreaves , who described it as initially being "almost like a large shuttlecraft." [1] By the time he began producing concept images of the ship, it had been reconceived as a freighter. The designer produced a couple of images that showed the craft buried under the sand. In another of his earliest concept illustrations of the vessel, it bore the name "USS Pioneer " and was portrayed as launching into the planet's atmosphere, aided by external rocket packs which Scotty had attached to the vehicle's underside. Hargreaves was mindful of the fact that the ship had been fiercely pounded before crash landing on the planet's surface. ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 10, 11 & 14)

The use of the NX prefix and USS would seem to have been added after the formation of the Federation, as United Earth starships depicted in the mostly pre-Federation series Star Trek: Enterprise did not commonly use USS and the NX prefix was only used for ships in the NX-class or part of the NX Project and Warp Five program .

Unsure how Kirk and his associates would load supplies onto the ship, Sean Hargreaves devised a way for them to manually access the vessel through a ring of large cargo bay doors he positioned on the top of the vehicle. However, this sequence ultimately didn't make it into the movie, as the film's other creative personnel decided that Kirk and his cohorts would simply beam aboard the vessel instead, so Hargreaves changed the doors into prominent ridges that were meant to represent some kind of an array. ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 14-15 & 17)

At first, Sean Hargreaves intended for the craft to be capable of ascending and descending vertically. Although he even did variations of the ship with landing struts to facilitate these maneuvers, the scripted depiction of the ship and its launch sequence continued to evolve. Essentially, the vessel was now conceived as being discovered by Scotty at the top of a mountain and sliding down the side of that mountain during takeoff, so the landing struts were never shown. ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 15-16)

USS Franklin dedication plaque

The dedication plaque of the USS Franklin

By the time this change was made, the craft had been renamed the " Franklin ". ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, p. 16) That name was chosen in recognition of Justin Lin's father, Frank Lin; the vessel's dedication plaque has a slightly wider gap between the letters "k" and "l" to further emphasize this tribute. The Franklin 's registry number, 326, was in honor of Leonard Nimoy 's birthday. [2]

Once Sean Hargreaves completed his version of the ship and the design had finally been approved, the craft was tweaked for its portrayal in the film by the visual effects staff at Double Negative . They were tasked with adjusting the Franklin on a shot by shot basis. After deciding which materials would be included in the vessel's construction, the VFX team added a load of debris which they imagined as having literally grown over the ship's hull during the ages it had spent grounded on Altamid. " It had been sitting there for a couple of hundred years so it had dirt and rocks and trees growing on it, " stated VFX and Associate Producer Ron Ames . " It was kind of funky when it took off. " ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 17-18) Double Negative made the vessel look appropriately battered, due to the intention of the Franklin being an old and rusty vessel. ( Cinefex , No. 138, p. 91)

The VFX group also carefully worked out the additional damage sustained by the ship while it, immediately after launching, falls over the cliff, endures a battle with the swarm ships, and finally crashes its way into Starbase Yorktown. All of that damage needed to be recorded so it could be tracked in each shot. ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 17-18) During the craft's transit, Double Negative took the ship through five stages of destruction. ( Cinefex , No. 138, p. 91) " We added scrapes when it comes off the edge of the cliff, " Ron Ames recollected, " then you had to know where it had been hit by swarm ships, so you build a history of the damage and follow that through. " ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, p. 18) CG Sequence Supervisor Rhys Salcombe explained, " At the point where it smashes through Yorktown ''s door, we entered damage state three, which was pretty mangled. As it's flying through the docking tubes, it bangs off various things and gets additional dings and scratches. After the breach, we went into stage five. The ship is broken beyond repair at this point – it's a wreck, revealing a lot of its interior structure. " ( Cinefex , No. 138, p. 91)

The creative personnel also wanted to make the Franklin appear convincing in the space battle and during its very eventful journey into the starbase, about which Ron Ames commented, " We really tried to make that as real as possible. " The battle was modified to include the craft firing in retaliation at the swarm ships, even though the Franklin had heretofore been thought of as having either no weaponry whatsoever or minimal weaponry that was no longer functional. " As the third act was rewritten when we were editing, " said Ames, " we had to add weaponry to tell the story, otherwise it would have been a sitting duck. " Making the vessel apparently tougher in this way made it seem more believable that the Franklin managed to last as long as it did while enduring so much damage. ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, pp. 18 & 19)

USS Franklin bridge set

The bridge set of the Franklin

Ultimately, members of the film's shooting company highly approved of the Franklin . Don Macaulay remarked, " It became a very important part of the movie [....] I think it turned out to be a great-looking set. " ("Exploring Strange New Worlds", Star Trek Beyond (Blu-ray) / (Blu-ray 3D) / (4K Ultra HD) ) Ron Ames enthused, " I thought the way the Franklin behaved in the final battle and as it came into the space station was beautifully designed [....] It was very successful and pretty cool. " ( Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection , USS Franklin Special Issue, p. 18) Kirk actor Chris Pine raved, " Every nook and cranny on the Franklin , and the detail work is extraordinary, from the painting to the electronics. It's just mind-boggling. You know, stuff that maybe no one will see, but in the moment of acting in that space, it's incalculable, the effect that it has on me. It just adds to this world that we're creating, and it's super fun. " Jaylah actress Sofia Boutella was also impressed by the set of the Franklin . ("Exploring Strange New Worlds", Star Trek Beyond (Blu-ray) / (Blu-ray 3D) / (4K Ultra HD) )

Launch date [ ]

Regarding the vessel's origins, Dylan Highsmith said, " If you want the official explanation on the Franklin and its warp factor: it was a MACO ship (or a United Earth Starfleet ship that housed MACO personnel at times) that predates the NX-01. When the UFP Starfleet is formed, MACO was disbanded and the ship was reclassified as a Starfleet ship [with the ' USS ' identifier]. The ship is then 'lost' in the early 2160s. It was important to everyone that the ship, like Edison, predate the Federation; that thematically, the ship mirrored an earlier time in history and served as a bridge in design between then and the NX-01. Doug and Simon may have worked up something [on an official launch date], but if they did it never made it to script or screen. Either way it predates the NX-01, and was reclassified after the UFP is formed. " [3]

The possible launch date of the Franklin as Earth's first warp 4 vessel can be narrowed down based on information from ENT : " First Flight ", which established that the warp 3 barrier was first broken by the NX-Delta in 2145 , and that the construction of Enterprise , Starfleet's first warp 5 ship, began in 2150 . Therefore, the launch of the Franklin likely occurred within that range.

The USS Franklin-A

Carnac | April 6, 2021 April 6, 2021 | Independent Ship , Ships

This month we’ve got a new ship, the USS Franklin-A. It’s an updated version of the USS Franklin you’ve come to know over the past year and a half. Like the old ship, it’s a swarm killer.

The problem with higher level players is that, other than on Swarm Sunday, the Franklin has become obsolete. You can do the dailies if need be, and this will give you some nice repair speed ups. But in terms of the resources you can get from biominerals, it’s useless. When your next station upgrade costs billions in parsteel, getting 7 million parsteel a day isn’t going to make that much of an impact.

So we’ll see new biominerals that will pay more in resources. But you’ll get them by defeating new higher level swarm, level 37+, and in new swarm systems.

For the purposes of this article, I’m going to assume that you’re familiar with the original Franklin, and I will be discussing the new ship in comparison with the old one.

Franklin-A Ship Ability

It’s a swarm killer. Period. Here’s a chart comparing the bonus to damage against swarm by the old ship and the new ship, by level. You can see that the old ship has a bigger bonus out of the box, but the new Franklin quickly overtakes it. And by level 60, hit a whopping 500,000%.

Of course, the other difference is that your new ship will be stronger by level than the old one.

star trek uss franklin blueprints

Whereas the old Franklin only had three energy weapons that each fired once per round, the Franklin-A is also outfitted with two kinetic weapons and one energy weapon. So keep this in mind when you’re looking at the chart above, especially in the early rounds. While your damage percentage will look similar between the two ships until about level 10, you’re going to be taking more shots with the Franklin-A. With it’s odd firing pattern, it averages out to two more shots per round.

What About My Old Franklin?

If you’re wondering if you can now scrap old Franklins, you can. Here’s what you’ll get for a maxed-out Franklin.

franklin scrapping

It is a bit disappointing that even though you’ve poured a bunch of G2 and G3 common materials in, you’re not going to be getting any out when you scrap it.

Your new Franklin should come out of the box at about the same strength as your old one. And scrapping your old Franklin will give you 200 Advanced Data Cores, which is the exact amount you’ll need to buy the 200 blueprints you’ll need for your new ship.

Upgrading Your Franklin-A

Here’s what it’s going to cost you to upgrade your Franklin-A. You’ll notice that like its older brother, it switches over from one grade to another, this time from Grade 3 mats to Grade 4 at tier 5. And like the Franklin, it needs frequency modulators, obtained by killing swarm, though this time, their tier 2 modulators. You will be able to exchange your old modulators for the tier 2 ones, though the exchange rate is not 1:1.

franklin-a total cost of ownership

You’ll also note that the tiers are gated by level. You’ll need to be level 35 to build the ship, level 37 to get to tier 2, and level 39 to get it to tier 3.

All in all, in terms of materials, this isn’t all that expensive, especially when you consider that this is a G4 ship, and that the costs above don’t reflect any of the efficiency technologies.

The USS Terror

uss terror refit for franklin-a

This ship refit that you’ll be able to earn in Franklin event in April 2021 will give you a massive buff to damage against Swarm.

Your Franklin Officer

And for the first time, we’ve got an officer whose ability is specifically tied to a ship. The long-awaited Jaylah is here, and she’ll give you a shot bonus each round on your Franklin and Franklin-A.

And there will be… SWARM ARMADAS that will give you a chance to earn Jaylah shards. They’ll cost 100 Rare Armada Directives to launch.

The Franklin tends to be a workhorse for you. It does one thing, and one thing only, but it does it quite well. It kills Swarm. The higher its level, the higher the swarm you can kill.

Sourcing Franklin Blueprints

To source blueprints, you will need to complete the Saturday events during the battle pass, which will allow you to source 10% of them each time. Or, of course, you can always pull out your credit card.

To upgrade it, you need parts that are farmed off swarm vessels. Swarm vessels can be found in the following systems:

Once you get to higher levels, the Franklin no longer will be enough for you. You will need a Franklin-A, which at tier 1 is stronger than a max tier Franklin.

Sourcing the Franklin-A

To get the Franklin-A, you must have Shipyard Level 35. To get the blueprints for it, you must either scrap a Franklin, or pay for it. When you scrap a Franklin (requires Scrapyard 35), the amount of Blueprints you get for Franklin-A is based on ship level, not on the tier. So you must spend XP or kill hostiles with it to get it to the correct level. Do not waste any modulators on components for the last tier you’re planning on scrapping it at, as they are not necessary for the scrap.

Conversely, because it takes about 5 million modulators to upgrade from Tier 1 to Tier 8, and then another 10 million to go from Tier 8-Tier 9, many people only upgrade their Franklin to Tier 8 and then pay 20 real money for the last 50 blueprints needed.

Once you’ve got a Franklin-A, you no longer need the original modulators. In your refiniery, you will have this option now. You can however farm them and use them to get more Mark II parts for the Franklin-A.

Screen Rant

Star trek: the uss franklin starfleet history, explained.

The USS Franklin is a retro Starfleet ship that plays a big role in Star Trek Beyond, but what history does it have in the Kelvin Timeline and beyond?

What's the full service history behind  Star Trek 's USS Franklin? As any  Star Trek fan will attest, ships are more like living, breathing characters than mere inanimate settings. Whether it be the bright, blocky aesthetic of the USS Enterprise , the sleek futurism of the Discovery, or the hallowed halls of Deep Space Nine, it's impossible for audiences (and, indeed, characters) not to become attached after spending week after week with the same vessels.

This phenomenon of emotionally investing in ships might explain why  Star Trek just can't stop destroying them. Nothing says "major threat incoming" like a familiar, homely bridge going up in a fiery hail of photon torpedoes, and such moments can create a heart-wrenching sense of loss without one of the main cast being killed off. One of  Star Trek 's most dramatic ship decimation scenes comes courtesy of  Star Trek: Beyond . Set in J.J. Abrams' alternate "Kelvin" timeline,  Star Trek: Beyond  sees a routine mission rapidly descend into all out carnage when Idris Elba's Krall catches the Enterprise in an ambush, forcing Kirk to leave her behind.

Related:  Star Trek Enterprise Season 5's Mirror Universe Plan Explained

Ditching the Enterprise within the first act,  Star Trek: Beyond calls for a second ship to save the day. Enter the USS Franklin . Discovered and reawakened by Kirk and the gang, the Franklin is integral to  Star Trek: Beyond 's plot and comes complete with a long history that reaches back into the earliest days of the Federation. Here's everything we know about  Star Trek 's USS Franklin.

The Franklin's Origins & Early Years

The Franklin predates the Federation by approximately 10-15 years. Although  Star Trek: Beyond doesn't specify the date of her maiden voyage exactly, a general period can be ascertained thanks to both the big screen Kelvin threequel and  Enterprise   season 2. In  Star Trek: Beyond , Simon Pegg's Scotty helpfully explains that the Franklin was Earth's first ship capable of hitting warp factor 4. Since the Enterprise launched in 2150 and boasted warp 5, the Franklin's debut must've happened several years prior, but no earlier than 2145, which  Enterprise  claims was when the Delta cracked warp 3 for the first time. These dates provide a 5-year window in which the Franklin's story could've started.

With the Federation not established until 2161, the Franklin began under United Earth jurisdiction, hence the NX registry. During this time, the ship would've been involved in man's ongoing conflict against the Romulans , but the earliest adventures of the pre-Federation vessel are nowhere to be found in  Star Trek canon. When the United Federation of Planets finally came together, the Franklin was renamed the "USS Franklin" and put under the command of Balthazar Edison - a decorated veteran from the recently dissolved MACO (Military Assault Command Operations). Following Edison's promotion circa 2161, the USS Franklin became a typical Starfleet operations ship, much like the Enterprise, but that all changed in 2164.

The Gagarin Radiation Belt Incident

Until the 2150s, intense radiation rendered  Star Trek 's Loracus system a no-go for United Earth's fleet of exploration vessels. After over a decade of relative calm and a few successful trips, Edison and his USS Franklin crew were sent to investigate this seldom-visited area of space, but Starfleet 's ambition to boldly explore "strange new worlds" bit them on the backside. Presumably through a combination misfortune and a lack of knowledge about the Loracus system, the Franklin stumbled across a wormhole in the Gagarin Radiation Belt, never to be seen again. The cautionary tale of the Franklin became part of Starfleet academy's training program (under the "don't fly into wormholes" module, presumably), and Edison was officially declared MIA in 2255.

Related:  Everything We Know About Star Trek 4

Unbeknownst to Starfleet, the wormhole had whisked Edison's ship far, far away to Altimid, somewhere outside of Federation territory. Only 3 crew members survived the ensuing crash - Edison, Anderson Le, and science officer Jessica Wolff. The trio holed up in the barely-functioning Franklin and sent distress signals to no avail. Being abandoned by his employer intensified reservations Edison already held regarding the Federation's diplomatic philosophy, and the three Franklin survivors became embittered criminals, using Altimid's advanced technology to lengthen their lives at the expense of innocent prisoners.

One of these prisoners, Jaylah , managed to escape Edison (now going under the name of Krall), and take refuge in the abandoned USS Franklin, hoping to restore the vessel and escape Altimid permanently. Jaylah hid the Franklin with hologram tech and gradually rebuilt her new home with scavenged odds and ends, using the ship's data banks to learn about Earth on her days off.

Events Of Star Trek: Beyond

Attempting to rebuild a Federation vessel without proper resources, it would've been a very long time before Jaylah departed Altimid. What she really needed to find in the surrounding forestland wasn't spare parts, but a stranded Starfleet engineer wandering around aimlessly. In 2263, Jaylah finds Scotty, a stranded Starfleet engineer wandering around aimlessly. Within a matter of hours, Scotty has fixed and upgraded the Franklin's transporter to be compatible with life forms, and after other Enterprise survivors make their way to the Franklin's crash site, additional repairs are enacted. Hurtling the Franklin from the edge of a cliff serves to jump start the ship for the first time in a century.

Now under the command of James T. Kirk, the surviving Enterprise crew and Jaylah make the trip to Starfleet's Yorktown base. Despite being vastly outnumbered and outgunned, Krall's swarm proves no match for the Franklin's old-school sound system and the unrivaled power of the Beastie Boys. Though successfully restored to working order, Yorktown was always going to be a last hurrah for the Franklin. On Kirk 's order, the ship was used as a battering ram to force entry into Yorktown, then served to shield civilians from Krall's advancing scouts, ultimately landing in a small body of water. Thus, the story of the USS Franklin comes to an end, and a 100-year-old Federation mystery is finally closed.

The USS Franklin In The Prime Star Trek Timeline

Making its sole appearance in Star Trek: Beyond , the USS Franklin is exclusive to the Kelvin movies... for now. The point of deviation between Kelvin and Prime realities comes in 2233 when a disgruntled Romulan (is there any other kind?) travels from the future, altering history. This means the USS Franklin existed in the Prime  Star Trek universe, and was captained by Balthazar Edison - just like the parallel timeline. The ship also would've succumbed to the same wormhole and still crashed on Altimid, where Edison's transformation into Krall began.

Star Trek: Beyond takes place in 2263 of the alternate universe, at which point Shatner's Kirk was in his early career as Enterprise captain, still some years from the beginning of  The Original Series . This could suggest Krall was dealt with off-screen in the Prime  Star Trek continuity, beaten by the Enterprise or some other Starfleet vessel with much less fanfare and fuss than Chris Pine managed. Even so, Krall has never been referenced in Prime  Star Trek canon, and his fate remains unknown. In all likelihood, this alternate version of Idris Elba's villain is continuing his search for the missing Abronath part, which evidently didn't come into the possession of William Shatner's Kirk. If she's still alive, Jaylah might be beavering away repairing the Franklin still.

Krall and Jaylah could both still appear in Prime  Trek continuity , and with an extra century of cheating death under his belt, the villain wouldn't necessarily look like Idris Elba, making a potential return much easier.  Star Trek: Beyond afforded the USS Franklin an explosive swansong... but don't rule out seeing her again.

Getting the Franklin is nice but not necessary provided you have a decent explorer class with either the red crew utilizing Uhura (red) T'Laan and Spock, or the more advanced crew of Pike as Captain, Moreau and T'Laan. I got Franklin and vidar around the same time, ops 26/27. Wish I'd picked up the Franklin a LOT earlier to start on the upgrades. Even so it took around 9 months to max it. Franklin refinery is ok for daily mats, but maxing it is ESSENTIAL to scrap and get Franklin A later on. The mats dropping from Franklin A refinery is superb.
